Abismo de pasión #28 4/18/12: truth serum bombs away!! a whole bunch of truths that feel like a bomb blew out the brains of the receiver
Recap by Marta Ivett
Labels: abismo
You have so many scathingly brilliant lines I can't even begin to note them all. How about a couple of my favorites: "not wanting to prolongue this ‘fake-a-fest’", "more like he smudges her wildly".
Wow, that was some shirt Elisa was wearing. Is she so poor that she has to wear the clothes from when she was 12 yrs old? I fear her buttons popped off.
Is it just me or did anyone else find the mother/son massage scene a little creepy? I mean, I don't blame the actress for wanting to cop a few feels, but as mother and son...ick.
Yuck, the kiss that Gab "smudged" on Orangina was gross.
Oh crap, Blanca is the only one who knows The Secret? Blanca, it was nice knowing you...
And Dam's going to stay in La Ermita? Hooray!! His scene with Ramona was sweet.
Thanks again Marta, your recap absolutely rocks.
I agree. Too early for such a major reveal, so we can figure poor Blanca won't be long for this world. (maybe the blast we always see in the credits?)
Of course Dam is staying (and Flo won't leave without him), but he's got to be wondering shy his mumsy lets AbsGab run rough-shod over everyone. Will be fun to see AbsGab reaction when he finds out he's not head-honcho anymore.
in re-reading my own recap, i think my wording...
At Tovar house… Kike is in bed with his mom giving him a massage…
helped to the notion that the whole scene was 'creepy' being mother and son... but i too felt a bit awkward/uncomfortable how she was pushing her hands all over his back and putting her weight above him... so yes, i am with you there.
I am so glad Dam is back and wants to take over the pro-ce-sa-do-ra.
Again, Marta, you have nailed it. Love the "truth" bombs and as a Star Wars fan I love the Yoda reference. Oh,and the "stop eating carrots" line was funny, too.
You captured my favorite scene perfectly: "(and in a rare tender moment Ramona and Dam put their arms around each other in a sweet comforting embrace…)". Sigh.
I have to admit at first, I was wishing that someone else had been cast in Dam's role (Eugenio Siller specifically). But, the sad, soft wistful half-smile that David exudes is slowly changing my mind.
ITA with Anon, Sylvia, daisy and Sara - Blanca's toast. I wish Lucio had been nicer to her during what appears to be her inevitable last days. I was yelling at her to tell the Padre! Sadly, she didn't listen and hinted to the wrong people.
Gab and Carmina were sickening. They so deserve each other and whatever horrible ending awaits.
Sylvia, "I mean, I don't blame the actress for wanting to cop a few feels, but as mother and son...ick" had me chuckling. I thought the same thing last night!
Another fire. More damage. More angst. Ack.

I am so impressed by DZ in this one. Actually impressed with everyone. I've not watched TNs for very long, so for me this is the best cast/show I have ever seen.
Dam argues with Fina not to let Gabino fire Maru after all the years he spent at the procesadora…
should be 'all the years SHE spent at the procesadora'.
"...she says she has been looking for him, haven’t seen him since early… he says that’s better, so we can avoid silly arguments… "
had the 'don't bother getting married, the future as a couple is already doomed!' written all over.
i have to agree with you both that DZ is really showing his chops here... not quite as master at facial expression as Mark T (Gael) but he is definitely got his own skill there...
have not seen him regularly in anything before (did watch the final couple weeks of LFDD) but here he is finding a great fit in character/actor... and he has good chemistry with Mark T in their scenes together..
A couple of times you wrote "emmu"; what is "emmu"? I think I have missed something …
What on earth would Florencia see in Enrique? Ack. Telenovela beanie hat time.
I see and hear anvils over Blanca's head. She needs to wear her hard hat.
Sara - DZ is winning me over in this telenovela, from "ew! No puedo ver ni una pintura" to "eh, whatevs", which is a major shift for me. ;o) Overall, this (AdP) is one of the best Televisa productions I have watched in ages.
As soon as Nina learned all those truths, I knew it was over for her. I was glad she told Maru not to tell anyone she was there. Very smart move. Otherwise Gabino and Carmeany would have bumped her off. Then I was worried she'd have a heart attack in the town square. I actually did NOT want her to tell Padre since these priests are always keeping secrets (plus, he already knows much of it, and what good has that done anyone?). No, I wanted her to go blab it to a bunch of people who have no vows of secrecy like a priest. But the knowledge has still not passed her lips, and there are MANY hours till "tomorrow" when she plans to tell Ughusto and Alfie. Many hours in which many things can happen. Yikes!
I don't agree that Dam is staying in town because of Elisa. In fact, I think if Elisa was the only thing pulling on him, he would leave in a heartbeat, because he doesn't want to open up that can of worms and hurt a bunch of people (including Gael). He has a real love for his town, the land, and his dad's business. It is killing him to see how Gabino is running his dad's business and treating the workers. I think he feels a moral obligation to stay and a real desire to run a busines that he loves. Elisa has nothing to do with that. Elisa is the factor that scares him about staying. But of course Flo will think that's the only reason he wants to stay because she won't understand that kind of love for a town, the land, and a business.
Shoot, he had more chemistry with the WALL than he did Lucia.
I would bet a whole case of La Anita hot pepper sauce that Begona NEVER gave Edmundo a massage like that.
I agree with you. I think Dam went over to the "I'll stay" side when he found out Maru was fired and his mother wasn't lifting a finger. Sort of the straw that broke the camel's back. He's heard things from Braulio, Lucio, knows Gab for what he is, and I think he feels he just has to step in. I would like to say, do what his father would have done, but Rosendo did start the horror that is Gabino.
At this point, both he and Elisa don't think they are "destined" for each other because of just those problems you point out: friendships & family.
As for DZ, I kind of liked his turn as the evil one in Sortilegio and I could see in STUD he had the potential at being someone not so caddy or mean. Didn't watch his latest TN so his turn as a pure good guy so far has me liking him. I've already admitted I'm a big Mark T. fan (one of the reasons I was excited by this TN), but I think DZ plays off MT's Gael very well.
I think the reason we are getting so passionate in our disgust, hatred and love for characters is a testament to the acting in this TN. Lord help me, even the actress playing Begonia should get a nod for playing such a gossipy, stick up her a**, creepy wife/mother ( and for playing an entire scene in face cream--bless her).
its like Ramona told him... he FITS in this town and is not COMPLETE away from it, regardless of what his plans are ... BESIDES all the good he could do to the townspeople and the workers at La Anita if he stayed... he has no reason to believe Braulio would lie about all the workers being mad at Gabino's ways with them.
Randy: Can I get you something?
Second Jive Dude: 'S'mofo butter layin' me to da' BONE! Jackin' me up... tight me!
Randy: I'm sorry, I don't understand.
First Jive Dude: Cutty say 'e can't HANG!
Jive Lady: Oh stewardess! I speak jive.
Randy: Oh, good.
Jive Lady: He said that he's in great pain and he wants to know if you can help him.
Randy: All right. Would you tell him to just relax and I'll be back as soon as I can with some medicine?
Jive Lady: [to the Second Jive Dude] Jus' hang loose, blood. She gonna catch ya up on da' rebound on da' med side.
Second Jive Dude: What it is, big mama? My mama no raise no dummies. I dug her rap!
Jive Lady: Cut me some slack, Jack! Chump don' want no help, chump don't GET da' help!
First Jive Dude: Say 'e can't hang, say seven up!
Jive Lady: Jive ass dude don't got no brains anyhow! Shiiiiit.

Yes, that was me asking if it was Airplane I with the 'jive' translating. LOL That whole movie is great.
I initially thought that Blanca is doomed but the avances gave me hope when it seemed that she gathered everyone together to spill the beans. Now you guys have pretty much dashed my hopes for her survival.
I so hope that Horacio is not chosen to waylay the guy delivering the lab results but I know that he will be.
Marta, about Airplane, I borrowed a line from Peter Graves (the pilot) to offer as a suggested caption for one of the photos selected during Alborada... I'm not sure that anyone got it.
Carlos
Marta, thanks again for your detailed conversations. There were some lovely nuances that I completely overlooked, but your descriptions and translations explained things wonderfully.
Here's my moment of truth- I was holding out the hope that Blanca will live (like Carlos) but after reading everyone's responses my hopes have also been dashed. I just don't want to have to watch the Toad become beyond despicable once the paternity lie gets out. I was excited and thought the writers were mixing things up for us so we can't keep using Julia's bingo cards. While I may try and keep my delusion at least I won't get blind-sided if she doesn't make it through tonight's episode.
I wonder which of her beautiful dresses Blanca will be buried in. Dangit.
and Blanca's dresses are all beautiful. esp the white blouses with all the stitched flowers in bright colors... she has a face that looks a lot like my mom and her sisters... i have the same haircut she has on so you might say she could pass as my aunt...
As a woman at the Wrinkle Age, may I say I righteously hate all digital photos and swear I couldn't possibly look that bad!
And neither could Blanca...must be that equally damnable Hi-Def TV you've got.
Thanks for including some lovely translations as well, like
"darle sus picones" and
"a cuaco". Good to know.
And please please please!!!!!!, let poor Blanca live some more. I like her and besides, poor Lucio will be devastated.
The mother on son massage was WAY creepy, for sure.
Anon 207, Sylvia, ++, I, too, fear for Blanca. On, writers, don't ake her out! She is part of poor Elisa's tiny support system. Grrr...
So Damian has announced that he will stay in La Ermita, what do you know?

Just the thought gives me shivers of joy. It's gonna be EPIC.
(tea party, anyone? This woman needs some help)
I've read it three times and it still gives me the giggles.
