Abismo de pasión #51 5/21/12: Trysting the Night Away

Alternate Titles:
Fools Rush In
You Go To My Head (And I Drop Like a Ton of Lead)
Wait a Minute Mr. Gross Man
I did a little combining of scenes to avoid a long list of bullets. I hope it's not too confusing.

  • Fina's dear fiend [sic] Begonia tells some stupid story about the day Assgusto dragged Elisa to the health center. According to Be Gone Ya, Doc came home depressed/down (apesadumbrado-sad;glum) that day because Elisa had begged Doc Whipped to tell her dad she was a virgin and together they hid the fact that Elisa was sleeping around. Fina even suggests that Elisa was running around with Gael. Dam declares he doesn't have time for their cheap gossip and leaves. After he's gone Fina declares that though he might not have fallen for the story, the seeds of doubt have been sown. Hags.
  • Carmina visits Paolo in a  ridiculous disguise. They talk about Paolo now having to marry Elisa. He's not to keen on the idea. Carmina says it's important that Damian believe the bunk and that Elisa is lying to him. Later they get slobbery and smoochy. I swear Carmina sucked on his knees. After they do the deed they yammer. Paolo, poor sap, he really sounds sincere as he declares his love for Carmina. Carmina claims Assgusto is the love of her life and kindly asks Paolo not to mention him again. Sometimes Paolo thinks hurting Elisa is more important to Carmina than their relationship (Paolo and Carmina). Ya think? He wonders what she thought of the letter. They get slobbery and loud smoochy again.
  • Dam goes to look for Elisa and finds out she's looking for Gael. He goes to look for her. Meanwhile, Elisa talks with Gael. He's leaving 'cause he doesn't want to see her and Dam together. Elisa says his departure will hurt her and hurt Paloma even more. Gael is sure Paloma will find the right guy. Before he leaves he wants to kiss the woman he loves. GRAB! SMOOCH! (weird music reminiscent of the Exorcist? QTH?) Of course, Dam walks in and he.is.pithed. He yells at Elisa. Dam doesn't know what to think. There are rumors all over town and she should clear things up for him. She goes OFF on the both of them. She tells Dam he can think whatever the heck he wants about her, the simple fact that he doubts her means she doesn't want to see him anymore. Then she tells Gael it's a good thing he's leaving 'cause she doesn't want to see him again either. After she leaves the boys manhandle each other until Padre Lupe reminds them they are in a house of God. Gael runs out after Elisa. Gael lines, Elisa lines. She's mad at him for kissing her. She was a fool for thinking Dam loved her. She doesn't trust Dam or Gael. She doesn't trust anyone. She goes home and...you know CRIES because everyone believes the worst of her and now Damian, too!
  • Padre Lupe tries to explain to Dam that Elisa is a good girl. Lupe is not pleased that Dam has so little faith in Elisa and believes whatever anyone tells him...including Fina (maledicencia=gossip.) It seems mom is winning the battle and Padre says Dam doesn't DESERVE Elisa's love. Dam says he is dying of jealousy thinking she may have been with other men. What.a.twit. Gael comes and tries to explain, too...but Dam is too stubborn to listen. Dam goes home and tells mom she's trying to poison him against Elisa.
  • Ingrid tells Kenia not to gab to Gab about Gael. Kenia tells her to give her the check back. Ingrid says no. A struggle ensues. When Kenia tries to leave (after telling Mommy Dearest she would rather have been an orphan) Ingrid whacks her on the head with a heavy statuette. Gab and Ingrid panic over Kenia's prostrate body. (turulato-a=stunned; dazed) Gab asks what kind of mother is she. He knows what kind of mother she is...the kind to abandon a child she had with Rosendo Arango. Gab is going to be there when Kenia awakes and will ask her who Ingrid's son is.  Gab carries Kenia to the health center/hospital and leaves her on a bench. He goes to look for a nurse and when he returns Kenia is gone (she made her escape and is running through the town plaza.) Gab goes back to the blue house and tells Ingrid Kenia escaped.
  • Doc Whipped and Assgusto share a few shots at the cantina. Main points: Assgusto confesses he's been obsessing over another woman. Doc W tells Assgusto he's paying the price for marrying "por despecho" (for spite.) Assgusto whines about not being able to betray Carmina and making her miserable. More whining about not being able to control Elisa. Doc W tells him he hasn't paid attention to Elisa since Steffie died, but it's not too late to fix his relationship with his daughter. Guess who Assgusto runs into on his way home from the cantina...yup: Kenia. She asks for help and promptly faints. He catches her and his hand comes away stained with blood. (An aside: do drunk driving laws count when you are on a horse?)
  • At Hacienda Arango, Dam flashes back: Elisa's near rape, his convo with Tonia about who called the house, his beat down of Enrique, Gael kissing Elisa. Meanwhile, at Casa Castañon,  Elisa flashes back to the first time she saw adult Dam; their kiss in the stables; their kiss in the foyer; and Dam telling her that together they can face anything. She tells herself it was all a lie.
  • Padre is mad at Gael for kissing Elisa and causing problems with her and Dam. Gael thinks that if Dam's love were so great, he wouldn't believe the gossip over Elisa. Padre tells Gael the he made Dam doubt. Padre thinks Gael was purposely trying to cause problems; Gael denies it. Padre thinks Gael owes it to Dam and Elisa to fix things. Padre also tells Gael he can't leave without solving the issue with his mom. Padre thinks he should ask Gabino. Gael says he knows someone else he can ask.
  • Assgusto took Kenia home. Kenia tells Assgusto she went for a walk and got hit and started running. Oh thank the heavens. Kenia tells Assgusto not to let Elisa marry Paolo. Then she asks him not to leave and turns on the puppy dog eyes. He will stay in the living room.
  • Lola catches Nem-ho sneaking in after her tryst. Hee hee. Lola informs the Orange Tart that she's lucky she won't have to explain her late arrival. Assgusto isn't home yet either. Lola kicks ass and takes names. She tells Nem-ho she isn't afraid of her and she'll stay out of Carmina's bidnez if Carmina stays out of Elisa's bidnez.
  • Dam forces Paolo to admit that nothing happened between he and Elisa. Dam threatens to put Paolo in jail for attempted rape.
  • Assgusto tucks in a sleeping Kenia. Carmina waits for her wayward husband.
  • Lola wakes Elisa up. She's going to spoil and pamper her (apapachar=to pamper) and make papadzules (all hail Cap'n Sylvia for figuring this out for me.) Lola fusses at Elisa for crying into her pillow all night. She wants the girl to get up and stop wallowing. Dam doesn't deserve her. Cheat-ho barges in and says Assgusto did not spend the night at home. (He's with Kenia getting coffee and trying to convince her to go to the health center. A request she refuses.)
  • Padre continues to nag Gael about making up with Damian. Gael refuses to because he thinks Dam should trust more in Elisa. Padre thinks Gael should at least apologize to Elisa. Subject changes to Ingrid. Gael spills the "Kenia is her daughter beans."

Comments:
Well, fellow Caray mates, It wasn't quite a "here's what you're missing" grab and smooch, but it had the same effect.

Dam has got to get a grip. I'm afraid he's been talking to Ivan from LFDD. There's another hothead.

Sara- You captured all the highlights/lowlights perfectly. OK. I agree. Damian really does need to get a grip. Not sure how he can build the trust with Elisa again after being such a jerk. But his cold anger sure came in handy with Paolo. He scared the truth out of him, without even having to throw a punch.

I'm not sure if her house is the best place for Kenia to hide from Gab and the Momster. I'm sure they will be looking there pretty soon. Maybe she should move into the church house with Gael and the Padre.

Good work, Sara.

As much as Kenia doesn't deserve a Medea like Ingrid, I still don't trust this nymphet.

Damian needs to wake up and smell the espresso. Doesn't he know how ridiculous the adultery accusations against Estefania were?

I can't believe that TangeloHo could convince anyone she loves Assgusto, especially Paolo. He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he must see what she is all about.

How would Damian know the adultery accusations against Estef are ridiculous? She wasn't his mama, and he was just a little kid. He sure as heck knows something was going on with his dad. He just needs to connect the dots that lead to the Blue House and Carmina, and the two men he saw leaving the Blue House-- his dad and Paolo.

Damian wasn't so little when he was sent away and he must have known Estefania.

Not to mention that he should be able to connect the dots about that blue house.

Oh Sarah, you had me going with...
(An aside: do drunk driving laws count when you are on a horse?)
i was snorting so loudly...
i also liked the alt title 'Fools rush in'...

I was a bit creeped out with Damian's facial expression while BeGoneYa was telling him the lie... he looked like he was trying to suck on a very sour lime in his mouth...

also, i noticed Kenya yelled at Irritat-Ing that she wished mommy dearest had abandoned her at the church door as she did with Gael... boy, life must have been nasty around Irritat-Ing growing up for her to say something like that.

Loved the snarky style all over, Sarah... i wish i will be as good summarizing recaps like you do and still get all the gist...

if any novela leading man character needed to be hit on the head with a hammer, that is Damian

and i have to say Gael was pretty selfish in this ep... even if he tried to set things straight with Dam later... he should have calmed down before barking back at Dam. Dam had a reason to question... even if he should have known better and after the initial reaction, seen things more clearly.

it was fun to watch Nemo=Ho's face being the one staying up at home waiting for her man to come home and he never did... i bet Lolita was enjoying every second of that twisting the knife on the witch.

Great recap Sara. I don't think you missed a thing. Your title is fantastic! So clever. Your alternates weren't bad either.

Bwahaha! Why did Orangina bother to wear a scarf on her head as a disguise? As far as I can tell she is the only one in town hobbling around on crutches. She probably glows in the dark too.

Oh yes, I loved the scene where Lolita stuck it to the Orange Tart. Made me feel all warm inside.

Sara, thanks for the recap and the fun vocabulary that you included.

Maybe Lolita told Elisa that she was going to pamper her by making papadzules for her. It is a dish from the Yucatan peninsula.

What a nice group of comments to wake up to!

Vivi: Agreed. Hothead he may be, but Dam got the truth out of Paolo and scared him enough to probably make him think twice about a few things.

UA: I don't trust Kenia, either. I have weird feelings about the Kenia/Assgusto story line. I like that Kenia brings out the father/kindness in Assgusto. I just hope it eventually gets redirected to his own true Offspring.

Marta: I thought of you almost through the whole episode. We got to enjoy a ton of Gael and Padre. We must think alike, because I got so much pleasure out of watching Nem-ho wait up for Assgusto. And you are so right: Hammer meet Damian's head (I got a chuckle out of that comment.)Also, thank you for your compliments. I try to keep the recap short mainly because I could easily be up until midnight trying to include everything. I even had commentary about Padre Lupe spilling that milk and how I was reminded of Cyn's milk metaphor from Friday.

Sylvia: Paolo actually made a comment to Nem-ho about her being the only person in town with the "muletas" but it didn't make it into my final cut. :(

My school year will be over June 11 and you should all be prepared for me being home and hitting "refresh" on the recap commentary during the week. You have been warned. LOL

OH Sylvia!!!!!!!!! THank you! I just could not catch what Lola said she was making. Then I resorted to the CCs and they had it spelled all kinds of wrong it seems! I'm going back and fixing that and adding a link.

When I read your recap and listened to Lolita the word sounded familiar but I couldn't quite place it. Then, at 3:30 this morning when I woke up with a touch of insomnia, the first thing I thought was "Papadzules!" Isn't it weird how the mind works?

OK we are warned and looking forward to you getting your summer vacation.

Well the stupid pills were being swallowed big time last night. Thanks Sara for lending some good humor to an otherwise frustrating episode.

As you say Marta, we think alike. I will be happy to supply a rather heavy statuette I have to serve the purpose of clubbing Dam in the noggin. What a jackass. I'm sorry, this hero jealousy stuff is a total turnoff and I was happy to see Elisa let him have it. Crap, he was acting like Assgusto did with Steff. That's suppose to endear us to him?

Gael, he wasn't a saint, but I don't agree that he was trying to get between the loving couple at that point. He didn't know Dam was going to walk in. I took the kiss as a guy wanting to get just one kiss from the woman he loves before he left town. (And anyone notice Elisa wasn't exactly fighting back?)

I also understand his defending Elisa, but frankly,he should have shut up and let Dam bury himself with all the jealousy stuff. Instead he came off as the competition again which Elisa didn't need.

I always love the Padre/Gael scenes, but I disagree with Padre sort of dumping on Gael and making it Gael's job to make everything "right". And Dam getting in Paolo's face AFTER he lays into Elisa--just frustrating.

One interesting non-D/E/G scene. Gab taking Kenia to the clinic (and showing more upset than II). All that blood, and Ass DOESN'T take her to the clinic and let's her decide? Where's my beanie?

Paolo--such a poor puppy. Maybe we should start calling him Pathetic Paolo. Sylvia--glad you said it about the crutches and disguise. Extra dose of stupid pills there. (But Paolo--oh my. Thank you to the directing team. Since we had to get the bed view of Elisa's ample endowments, it was nice to have a counterscene for a change for us ladies. We could have done without the macking though. )

My beanie will be firmly by my side again tonight. Thank you Emilia.

Daisynjay-Paolo's lack of shirt made it difficult for me to concentrate last night! Yum!

Sara thanks for your recap.

The levels of stupidity last night were a bit annoying but I'm happy Kenia isn't dead (from the previews I thought she was a goner).

Further proof that Ingrid is a horrible mother - Gab is more stressed out about Kenia than her mom.

I was very glad to have Kenia alive, too.

I almost liked Gab last night. He really has Ingrid's number.

PS to Ingrid: it is an accident when you push someone and they hit their head. It is not an accident when you pick something up and hit them with it on the back of the head.

For as jerky as Damian is being, I continue to be more convinced that today's galans are infinitely better than galans in older telenovelas. I have been recording and watching bits and pieces of the old tns Telemundo runs in the afternoons. I have been shocked by how horrible these galans are.

Marta Ivette, or someone else who has watch tns for a while, what did women ever find to admire and swoon about with these old galans?

I've watching La Usurpadora right now. (Really strange to see Gabi Spanic with natural breasts and a natural butt.) The "galan" (hot Fernando Colugna) is irrate that his wife has come back a changed woman-- by changed I mean hard working, loving towards his children, caring towards everyone, and determined to save his family's biz. He wants the stupid, frivolous woman she was before. So he has an affair with his cousin AND with his secretary, and is really mean to his kids and wife. What?!

I also just finished watching Maria Isabel, where the galan has an affair (with Sabine M) while he's married to the heroine. He even goes on a date with his mistress on his one year wedding anniversary to the heroine, while she waits at home preparing him a special meal!

At least these days, if the galan has relations with another woman it is usually while he and the heroine are definitely broken up, or he has been drugged, drunk, or bamboozled into believing he did the deed. These guys were sober and knew full well what they were doing! Maybe the galans of the future will be fully evolved and not go into jealous rages at the mere thought of their women (possibly) doing the deed with someone else.

Thank you, Sara, for another great re-cap!

Carmina is getting more and more demented. She always laughs/leers at the wrong times. She's forever grinning at her own private joke! So glad Lola's finally getting some dirt on her. Wish Lolita would check in with Horacio and get some GOOD dirt like the love note was intended for the Tangel-ho.

Vivi in DC, ITA about the pink house hiding place! I don't know what will become of Kenia or Ingrid. When Gabino told Ingrid she just had to hide until Alfonsina "forgot about her" I thought, that's gonna' be a loooooooong time. And didn't Kenia get paid off to leave La Ermita? She's made an enemy of Gabino AND Alfonsina which is a deadly combo.

Speaking of which, why do they keep flashing "La Ermita, Yucatan" on the screen when we never LEAVE La Ermita, Yucatan!!!?

Thanks again, Sara!

Katy

I always love the Padre/Gael scenes, but I disagree with Padre sort of dumping on Gael and making it Gael's job to make everything "right". And Dam getting in Paolo's face AFTER he lays into Elisa--just frustrating.

i sort of disagree too, even though padre is right that Gael can't just leave and leave the mess for someone else to clean up when, like Padre says, if he does love Elisa as much as he says he does, he should do something to try to undo the damage he caused by pushing a kiss on her. Granted, he did not mean for Dam to walk in on them and I too believe he just meant to have a 'one goodbye kiss' before he walks away and wishes them the best as he told Elisa... but if things got messed up by that one last 'moment' and he can do something to do some damage control, i too think he owes Elisa an appology, and even a talk to Dam even though Dam does not seem to be willing to listen to him.

Was Padre overboard, mmmm... yes. a little. Dam's reaction to what he saw is not Gael's FULL responsibility and if Dam believes in the talk of the town, that is for DAM to figure out on his own. all Gael could do is fix the effect of the one moment's interpretation/reaction.

I also chuckled at Padre spilling the milk at trying to get Gael to reason...

regarding BeGoneYa and her little white lies... i hope it gets turned around on her somehow... that she gets the talk of the town turned on her... which probably it is already putting some 'half-moon thingies on her forehead'...

I too thought Gabino shows MUCH MORE concern for Kenya than II did. and that makes II an even more despicable mother. That is TWICE that she has seen Kenya hurt bad and has either ignored her or walked out on her... YIKES!!

I really enjoyed last nights episode. I did not see Kenia escaping in a million years! The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, I guess. This recap is really helpful in filling in the gaps. It is simply a great resource to have. Especially for me because I prefer to watch without subtitles to force myself to learn spanish.

I'm afraid I'm not too creative with names so I guess you can just call me Dave.

Or at least let the brain cells work before the knee-jerk anger reflex does.

I wonder also whether typecasting will eventually die out. David Zepeda seems to defy it right now so is this a trend?

Dave, welcome to the study group! So glad you could join us.

Katy, I don't know which is more annoying, the constant reminder that Yes, we are in La Ermita, or those big letters that used to pop up in Cuando Me Enamoro announcing where we were, episode after episode. Big, block letters in front of the winery, out in the Ensenada bay, it was just so weird.

Vivi, interesting comment about the galans of the past. Sometimes the male characters, even the good ones, are portrayed in a very bad light. It's good to know things are improving for them.

Sara: Thanks for the great recap.

I'm with Gael in this episode. He still hasn't given up on winning Elisa, and at this point he's a better match for her than Damian the doubter. He wears his heart on his sleeve God Bless him.

Paolo is a mighty fine looking man. He has the most perfect abs, no doubt pumped up by all the work he does at the pro-ces-a-dora.

Also, I don't completely trust Kenia. She's an accomplished liar and tells at least one in each episode. But, she does get points for telling Agosto not to force Elisa to marry that swine.

I don't completely trust Kenia either but if anyone can steer Asgusto in the right direction it's her.

Stuff we learned in this episode:

We learned Begoña made up a story about Dr. Tovar faking test results proving Elisa was a virgin (Um, Damian, you were THERE hovering around Tovar & Augusto so you should know this is a fake story)

Paolo learned Augusto is the supposed love of Carmina's life.

Gael learned the taste of Elisa's lips, and learned Damian does not trust Elisa one bit.

Gabino learned IrritatING went ooops upside Kenia's head.

We (and Gabino) learned Kenia is a crafty one, escaping as soon as Gabino took her to the health center.

Augusto learned to care for somebody other than himself.

Carmina learned it was a waste of time to sneak back into the house, since Augusto wasn't even there.

Damian learned there was never anything between Paolo & Elisa.

Paolo learned he should have run back to Mexico City instead of dealing with the crazies in La Ermita.

Elisa & Carmina learn Augusto never came home*

Padre learned Kenia is Gael's sister.

*OBSERVATION: Shouldn't they go look at the bar, since that's where Augusto's been the other time he didn't come home? This is not really unusual behavior for Augusto.

Damian has no reason NOT to believe that Estefania and Rosendo had something going on. He knows his parents were very unhappy, he knows his dad was leaving and he knows when his dad was found, it was with Estefania.

Elisa only just found out 15 years later the getaway car was headed TOWARDS town, not away from it, and Elisa lives in La Ermita. Damian's been on another continent...he does not have that information.

What he does have is that he's caught Carmina coming out of the blue house twice...once, he thinks with his dad and the other, he knows with Paolo.

Interesting thought, though. We know how every other character feels about the Rosendo/Estefania situation EXCEPT for Damian. Does he believe it or not? It WAS his dad that was found with Elisa's mom.

Thanks for that reminder Anon207. Why isn't Elisa telling everyone that news about the direction the car was going?

I suspect that because Alfonsina and BeGoneYa have been dirtying her rep for the last 15 years nobody would believe her.

When is Ramona going to speak up?

Thanks Sara. Very well done.

Generally I approve of and enjoy gossips in TNs. Often they are important for moving the plot along. Begoña has crossed a line by blatantly lying. Good gossip requires an element of truthfulness. I'm afraid that Begoña may be poised to lose her credibility.

I was proud of Augusto for not going all creepy on us as he ministered to Kenia. Good job.

Carlos

Damián had actually left the room at the clinic before the conversation turned to Eliza's virginity, so technically he doesn't "know" -- but still, he should KNOW.

pasofino, ITA about Gael..
He still hasn't given up on winning Elisa, and at this point he's a better match for her than Damian the doubter. He wears his heart on his sleeve God Bless him.
you could tell that when Elisa shouted 'Damian!...' Gael turned around knowing he had caused some trouble for her. As much as I would have liked for him to calm down and not be so confrontational with Dam at the moment, someone had to show face for Elisa and you are so right... Dam was nothing but a doubter, which goes in 180 degrees against what he himself told Elisa when they decided to be together, that they would need to be strong together to face what was to come. turns out that although Elisa was the one that had doubts they could do this, Dam is the first one to flunk on the very first test.

Blue lass, i agree, all Damian knows is that Elisa was not pregnant at the time... and now knows the pregnancy test belonged to Kenya. he does not know the second part of Edmundo's statements to Augusto..

Anon,
Augusto learned to care for somebody other than himself.
Paolo learned he should have run back to Mexico City instead of dealing with the crazies in La Ermita.
LOL good ones!

I think Ramona is not speaking because she does not have the whole story either... she knows what Estefania said to her, she knows the car was heading into town instead of away, and she knows Rosendo was at fields with 'a woman'. she can't place it to Carmina either...
she does not know Estefania had locked up Carmina in a room before going out... or that Carmina is the name on the plane tix...
or that Carmina went to argue with Rosendo at the procesadora earlier...
but somehow she will find out one more piece of puzzle linking Carmina to what happened... then she will have the whole puzzle and i am sure she will speak out.

i think the only one that has all the pieces of the puzzle is Gabino, and Padre knows who it was that Rosendo was going with because Carmina confessed to him directly...
noone else has any evidence of the Carmina connection to what happened, other than Nina, who is gone... rip.

Welcome, Dave. I hope you enjoy our group.

Question - Damien now knows that Paolo is lying but does he know who persuaded Paolo to do so? Based on the brief convo w/his mother, I think Damien believes it her but can someone let me know if I'm off base here. Thanks in advance.

"She's (Kenia) made an enemy of Gabino AND Alfonsina which is a deadly combo."

I think we can now add Carmina to the list, Katy. I'm betting very soon that she discovers that hubby was taking care of her when he didn't come home. After that blessedly funny dinner when she got all huffy at Assgusto's attentions to Kenia, she will be spitting nails to know he was with her. Injury or no injury. So lucky Kenia has the unholy trinity against her and a monster of a mother. Yep, not good.

With all this talk of past crimes, accidents, and even now present day incidents...interesting this TN doesn't have a friendly neighborhood cop character.

So lucky Kenia has the unholy trinity against her and a monster of a mother. Yep, not good.

ITA daisy, Kenya better go find some bulletproof vest, a helmet for her head and watch what she eats and drinks around anyone in that unholy trinity and their residences...

With all this talk of past crimes, accidents, and even now present day incidents...interesting this TN doesn't have a friendly neighborhood cop character.
good point too! i had not thought about it since Nina's incident but yes, they could use a cop (another reincarnation of Ale Camacho characters in earlier novelas or bring in Daniel Lugo from HLDM!! he would have a FIELD DAY in La Ermita) and judge (Marcelo from cs'93 reincarnation of Rosie) team around.

sorry meant Daniel Lugo from LHDM.. lol

so that would be another field assignment for our dear Commandante Salas... and his sidekick Teniente Guadalupe Morales

Hi, Sara:

Wow, I am so late to the party!

Thanks for doing a snappy job on this recap. I found the episode really irritating. I am sure that will show in tonight's recap (grin).

Well, Ingrid is cat-food, for sure. She has now abandoned her injured child not once, but twice in this TN. We can only imagine how many times this would have happened to Kenia growing up. Shudder.

I loved you drunk "riding" comment for Augusto. That was hysterical.

Now I have to rant and rave about Augusto. Augusto is cat-food, too. In the throes of alcohol poisoning and testosterone fueled fantasies he is able to bring compassion to a virtual stranger whom he has idealized but he cannot show any of that tenderness to his daughter.

Augusto, my cats are going to have you for breakfast. Adios.

EJ

Marta:
Regarding my favs Gael and Padre Gaudalupe you said:

"Was Padre overboard, mmmm... yes. a little. Dam's reaction to what he saw is not Gael's FULL responsibility and if Dam believes in the talk of the town, that is for DAM to figure out on his own. all Gael could do is fix the effect of the one moment's interpretation/reaction."

ITA, Marta. Padre is harder on Gael, his "son", than on Damian, his nephew. He actually has higher expectations of Gael. He needs to remember that Gael may be the "son" of a priest but he is no priest!

EJ

Daisynjay and Marta:

Add me to the list of those who think that Kenia's days are NUMBERED. Too bad, because I love the young actress, but Carmina the lying orange trollop may morph into that Brown Recluse Spider that I have been visualizing. I think Kenia is going to be lunch for the tiny but deadly brown spider Carmina when she finds out that Augusto spent the night at Kenia's Casa Rosa.

EJ

I agree with both of you Marta and EJ. But look how much better it is for Gael and Paloma to have parental figures who have very high expectations of them, than parents who expect the WORST of them, like Elisa's dad and stepmom/aunt. Or even Alfie, who expects Dam to fall into "bad" behavior unless she controls his every move.

I love how the character of Kenya is shaking things up in such an unexpected way. Usually, the troublemaker role is left up to the jilted villainess (Florencia). But Kenya is linked to everybody in this story, and has been a game changer in many ways. She's not evil, but she's not all good either. She's an excellent truth teller, and also an excellent liar. You never know what she's going to do next.

Sara, thanks for the detail filled recap.  I really appreciated the vocabulary, I hadn't taken the time to stop the recording and look things up and but you did.  Bullet recaps are perfect for phones too! Thanks Sara.

Vivi, I agree on the older galans.  I rewatched Amor Real and ended up liking Adolfo much better than Manuel!

There are some times that even normal people might not trust someone  as they should and one is in the beginning of a highly charged romantic relationship.  I'm not so disappointed that Damian is letting LIARS mess with his mind, but I do dislike the anger he is bring to his interactions.  Thin lips, normal lips, pink lips, abs or no, he is a super angry guy!  I think he has DZed Damian!

I agree, Vivi. if my dad had his way i would have grown up in a plastic bubble and only he had the key to the lock... but now grown up and having my own control issues with my teenage daughter, i can understand his POV... i did not copy it, or rather went too far on the opposite direction (my daughter is 18, and has a near 3 yo son)... but i don't really blame it on him to go to the extremes to 'keep me safe'...

This comment has been removed by the author.

Vivi, great point on Kenya too.. you basically summarized why she is becoming such an interesting and influential character here...

"Augusto, my cats are going to have you for breakfast. Adios." Snort and double snort! That's funny.

last night Augusto gave me a side of him i did not expect... his counterpart in CdeP never showed this trace of caring/humanity or vulnerability, that I remember... kudos to Alejandro Camacho for showing there is some pinch of humanity left in this man after so many years of bitterness.

it is funny because every now and then i catch AC in 'El alma herida' on 'ExitosTV' local channel 47-2 on digital antenna...
where he plays a cop who also has a tragic shadow from the past on him.

Sara: The cleverness began with the title and continued throughout. I haven't been able to read or comment in a while and I am so happy I got to read this. "Sometimes Paolo thinks hurting Elisa is more important to Carmina than their relationship (Paolo and Carmina). Ya think?" had me chortling out loud. This was great!!!

Shame on Dam for believing any of the insidious lies. Martaivett, "if any novela leading man character needed to be hit on the head with a hammer, that is Damian" ITA! And yes, Gael deserves a good boot in the rear for his behavior as well. The good Padre is right - Elisa deserves better than Dam.

Paolo is clearly smitten. Blech. Could he possibly have picked anyone worse?? Well, maybe Ingrid but she has Gab. 2 matches made in hell.

Thanks again Sara!

EJ- annoyance makes for great snark/recaps! And I was snorting along with Sylvia at the Assgusto as cat breakfast comment.

Vivi- ITA about Kenia and how her being linked to everyone makes her very interesting...as well as doomed.

And I can't remember who coined unholy trinity but it is brilliant.

Oh Sara..."Trysting the Night Away" is going to be my favorite title ever. And the song is now playing in my head repeatedly.

Very upsetting episode last night. I kept having to say to myself, "it's just a story, they're going to be together in the end, don't get upset..." But ugggggh.

Has Cynderella's love for Gabino transformed him? Is our murderous thug bound for redemption? Doubt it, but he was sure very caring and solicitous of Kenia last night. Unlike Momsie. The writers are making his character a little more ambivalent with his initial infatuation with Ingrid and his solicitude over her daughter. Puzzling.

Ditto for Augusto, although, like many of you, I was furious that he could be so tender and kind to Kenia but not to his own Elisa.

Dave, welcome to CarayCaray. As you can see, I'm not good with clever names either. Mike and Emilia, the same. We're just straight out who we are.

Marta: Gabino doesn't know that Gael is Ingrid's son. He just knows that Ingrid has a son, and he was trying to get the name from Kenia.

Gabino know's Ingrid's son is also Rosie's son, he just doesn't know it is Gael!... because if he knew that he would change targets and REALLY have something to blackmail Alfie with... at that point he could care less about Camila... he would aim higher still...
and II said last night that she did not want Gabino to find out it is Gael because then she would have to SHARE the fortune... UGGHH!!! what a mother!! good thing neither Gael nor Kenya want to have anything to do with her.

"Paolo is clearly smitten. Blech. Could he possibly have picked anyone worse?? "

So agree. I was head scratching last night too trying to figure out what the blazes he sees in her that would make him go all Pathetic Puppy versus being his old Lothario self. But then I remembered this is the same chick that we were led to believe Rosendo would leave his child for. So I just adjust my beanie and let it go.

Reading comments about D's over the top reaction to Elisa--namely how crazy angry he gets. Usually when a character has a problem controlling their anger and reacts without thinking, it doesn't bode well in the story. I may not be on team Dam all the way right now, but I would hope he doesn't do something really stupid down the road.

LOL did i really say Camila? i meant Carmina of course ...

Marta, that slip made me laugh. I think Camila is definitely NOT Gabino's type. She's too wishy washy.

did anyone see the previews for 'this week on AdeP!'..??
a proposal and a shotgun jousting between padre and Augusto... hmmm! sounds pretty volatile...

of course we get a close up shot of Elisa's eyes... and she is ... em... crying... what else?

Sara,

Thanks for the great recap. Short and to the point!!! Loved it...
also the vocabulary.

Apparently having his knees sucked on really gets him going.

Assgusto may have shown some traces of humanity last night, but I do not trust this man nor do I give him a "pass" on his abuse of his daughter.

Call me hard core, but there is something about Assgusto that I do not trust. He is walking a fine line with his years of pent up anger. With the flip of a simple switch in his simple brain, I think he is capable of much more physical abuse that he has already shown to his own daughter.

He may have his own illusions about Kenia, but when Elisa shoved it back in his face that Paolo had gotten Kenia, a minor, pregnant, there was something in Assgusto's response that told me the surprise and almost anger that he displayed was not entirely directed at Paolo.

I dislike this man. I dislike him as a father and as a man. I so want to know what Estefania really saw in him. I hope we find this out in the end. I sometimes wonder if Estefania felt she settled for second best and Assgusto knows that she did.

I also hope the writers flesh out more of the story between Rosendo and Carmina. I find it hard to believe that the man was willing to leave his young son all in the name of endless sex with this witch.

The witch looks like she might be starting a little mental decline of her own.

It was amazing to see the way the lies so smoothly poured out of Begona's mouth. Did I sense of bit of reluctant admiration from her lying friend, Alfonsina (who was busy touching her expressionless forehead during the entire scene!)?!?

Interestingly, I am finding the actor playing Kenia to be much more interesting that Boyer in the Elisa role. Boyer is doing her trademark pout and the crying is endless, but I don't feel that her acting is up to the Kenia character's acting.

There has GOT to be more to Elisa that just being a poster child for boobs and tears.

Thank you to the recapper.

Anon 7:03 ITA regarding your eloquent assessment of the Toad. I try not to focus on him b/c he's a very vile character to me.

Regarding Boyer, I would say her character is less interesting b/c the writers often create heroines in this unfortunate bland manner. Usually people who play villains or ambiguous characters are given more and we see that. Finally, it can be argued that the male characters are usually given more complicated roles than their female counterparts.

Thank you, Karen.

I have not watched novelas very long, but in spite of what seems to be cookie cutter story lines, I like to dissect the motivations of the characters.

Even if the character is a villain, if the actor does good work at fleshing out all of the possibilities of the character, then I am very intrigued by the character and the actor.

If I could add one more comment, I think the character of Begona has no soul. She is cold and soulless. She and Alfonsina should be afraid of meeting their Maker.

I think your observations are correct (from what little I know and understand of these stories).

I agree with everything you say most recent Anonymous and this comment had me chortling:

"There has GOT to be more to Elisa that just being a poster child for boobs and tears. "

LOL!!!

That should be a sidebar entry.

I have finally concluded that Carmina uses Elisa as a surrogate for her mother. She is getting all the hate Carmina felt for Estefania and held back all those previous years.

And Assgusto's current fascination with Kenia is creepy in the extreme.

Thank you Sara and Urban Anthropologist. I can see that both of you are very knowledgeable about these novelas. I appreciate your comments.

I am cringing at the typo I made, but I'm sure you know that I meant to write...GOT to be more to Elisa THAN... and not 'that'.

Sara- thank you for the recap. I love your billeted style---it works great with my brain. :-). The 'Gelato Tour' (as DH calls it) is over and I'm finally back home and trying to get caught up with AdP, or Abysmal Pasion as I prefer to think of it considering some of the subplots.

doris..

Dear Anonymous, I like your comments very much. I hope you comment again.

Ah Doris, amica, welcome home from the Gelato Tour. I trust you had a lovely time in Italy.
