Abismo de pasión #46 5/14/12

Dear fellow recappers, Thank you for all your work last week. I did not get to watch at all, but you all kept me in the loop and gave me some laughs.
Dear readers, I promise the quality will improve when this bleeping school year is finally over.

El Refrito
  • Carmina and Paolo slime and slobber on each other.
  • Toadhead blows a fuse about the contract.
  • Lola is a mama bear. Elisa cries.
  • Dam takes off his shirt. Ramona says stuff about friendship...but Dam is not wearing a shirt, so I don't pay attention.
Lo Nuevo
  • Padre Lupe visits Fina who is preoccupied by the Ingrid Conundrum. Padre notices, but Fina assures him that despite her preoccupation, she will soon have everything under control. She reveals nothing.
  •  Ingrid has lost the check. Gabino barges in and is menacing and abusive. He wants to know why Fina has asked him to get rid of Ingrid.
  • Kenia has the check and considers it a lucky stroke that she’s known how to forge mom’s signature since she was a little girl.
  • Paolo and Carmina go at it.
  • Paloma is determined to win Gael. Ramona tells Paloma that her mother had gotten involved with an unsavory type and that Paloma was a product of that relationship. When Paloma asks who her father is, Ramona clams up.
  • Ingrid tells Gabino about her past affair with Rosendo and the child she had and abandoned. She lies and tells him she doesn't know who the child is, but that he's in La Ermita. She asks him to help her find her child.
  • Lucio is just sitting down to a sad lonely dinner when Elisa arrives with the waterworks. She explains about Toadhead's flipout over the contract. She cries and cries and cries and wants to know why she gets blamed for things she had nothing to do with. Why is she paying because of what her mom did? Lucio and Elisa both miss Blanca.
  • While out riding horsey near the casa azul, Damian flashes back to when he was a boy and saw Cheat-ho leaving. Coming back to the present, he sees Paolo leaving the casa azul. He rides up to the house and we get to see the same scene unfold again.
  • Gael visits Elisa but finds out that she left after Toadhead’s flip out. Gael goes to Don Lucio’s to look for Elisa.
  • Damian reminds Carmina about the time he was young and caught her leaving the house. Carmina says a whole lot of lines I don’t understand because she is channeling the spirit of William Levy. She’s trying to talk her way out of trouble since Dam Fine noticed the exit of one Paolo Landucci. She claims he’s all upset about Elisa saying he tried to rape her and that he (Paolo) really is in love with her. Dam calls BS since there really is no need for uber privacy for that kind of conversation. Carmina says she thought the same thing and that she told Paolo to leave Elisa alone. Her taxi arrives and she leaves.
  •  Lola thinks about the candle Ramona gave her and POOF! Horacio walks into the Castanon kitchen (Pop! Goes the Hottie.) He apologizes for not coming to visit and asks her out for next Sunday. He admits he’s dealing with some problems. He tells Lola she’s a great gal and he can’t believe she’s even noticed him. He doesn’t deserve her. Lola thinks that's her call. He asks what she'll decide. She tells him to get his problems fixed and then they can talk.
  • Lucio gives Elisa a picture of Blanca and Steffie together. Elisa loves it since she doesn’t have any pictures of her mother or Blanca. She and Lucio remind each other they are not alone. They have each other.
  • Ingrid flips out in the La Ermita Inn lobby. She’s trying to find out from the desk clerk where Kenia is. Gabino comes and asks her what’s up. She tells him she’s waiting on a letter from a family member. She’s hard up for cash and has to hide from Fina. Gabino says he’ll take care of her.
  • In Mexico City, Princess Poop whines about losing Dam Fine. She and Daddy talk about his money problems. Dad encourages her to go out with other muchachos.
  • In La Ermita, Sabrina is amazed that Enrique will continue to work at the Pro Ce. Enrique says he needs the cash so he can go find Princess Poop in the Big City. He wants Sabrina to get the number and address from Paolo.
  • While Dr. Whipped reads about Drugs for the Heart (in English) Be-gone-ya screeches about Enrique's dumb asp and the problems it's causing her with Fina. Dr. Whipped can't believe she's more worried about her friendship with Fina than there marriage. He confesses to knocking boots with another woman. He won't tell her who. She's more worried about the scandal. Dr. Whipped starts packing.
  • Dam Fine confronts Paolo about Elisa. Fina comes running when she hears the screaming. Dam wants Paolo gone...like yesterday. Fina refuses.
  • Toadhead fantasizes about Kenia. Creepy.as.hell. Carmina comes home and claims she went to the clinice. Toadhead tells her about the contract Dam offered Elisa. This leads to a very odd request for nookie on Toadhead's part. Carmina shuts him down.
  • Gael finds Elisa at Lucio's. He tells her he's the one who blabbed about the contract. Fuss. Fuss. Fuss. Gael doesn't want Elisa to have anything to do with Dam Fine.
  • Be-gone-ya tries to block Dr. Whipped from leaving. The kids come running and Enrique tells mom she can't force dad to stay. Dr. Whipped leaves
  • Carmina calls Fina to tell her about the contract and hangs up on her.
  • Tonia swears the woman who just called is the same who called Paolo.
  • Toadhead visits Lucio and asks him to talk Elisa out of working her mother's lands. Lucio tells him to support the girl and let her at least try. Toadhead says Dam and Elisa can't fall in love. Toadhead tells Lucio about the (false) paternity test results.
  • Dam enters the foyer just as Gael is hugging Elisa goodbye. He wants to talk to Elisa in private. Dam demands Elisa decide Gael or him! The boys gang up on her and Elisa tells them both to go to hell. Go girl!
  • Dam and Gael both swear to win Elisa.
  • Lucio thinks the test must be wrong and he says "no puede ser."
  • Kenia calls a friend to help get the check deposited without it being traced to her?
  • Ingrid curses Kenia and her stealing butt.
  • Be-gone-ya tells the kids about Dr. Whipped cheating on her. Sabrina haz a sad. Enrique advises they hear Dad's side, too. Oh, and btw way, sis...are you still going to get Flor's info from Paolo?
  • Kenia, Toadhead, Cantina???
  • Gael reports the Dam scene to Padre Lupe. Padre feels like it's Rosendo and Augusto all over again. The two men both  fought for Steffie, but Steffie chose Augusto. Eventually they did become friends. Gael doesn't think two men who fight for one woman can ever become friends.

Comments:
thanks for the great summary, Sara. I too loved the Elisa moment.
boys gang up on her and she tells them both to go to hell.. You Go girl!
and yes, the ToadHead daydreaming of his seeing Kenya in the cenote was creepy.
I too was a bit miffed about the 'boys ganging on ' Elisa. that was totally uncalled for. After all she has not really lied to them... at least not yet... yes she has omitted and avoided answering... which to some is also a way of lying...
but I am really getting tired of the waterworks too.
and the violence... last night it was Augusto on Elisa, tonight Gabino on Ingrid... a bit much.
poor Paloma.. please don't start dressing like Elisa or Nemo-Ho. that is not the way to conquer Gael.

it was interesting what we found out that Rosendo and Augusto INDEED had fought for Estefania when young... very much like Gael and Damian are now engaging into a cock fight for Elisa. But Rosendo and Augusto were able to make ammends by the time the novela time started... up until Alfonsina began poisoning Augusto against Rosendo about the deception.

ok Ingrid, do us all a favor and keep your makeup on... that was not your best look tonight.

come to think about it it seemed to be the 'no makeup women' night: Ingrid, Begone-ña and even Carmina.

did anyone check out the name of the bar when Kenya drove by it?
'un rincon cerca del cielo'... taken right out of Jose Alfredo Jimenez's 'Si nos dejan' song lyrics.

Sara, welcome back! Your bullet points were snark-worthy indeed. Mr. Sharkbait would love it, he is always asking for the "executive summary" to everything.

Thank you for "Carmina and Paolo slime and slobber on each other." No kidding! Making out never looked so uncomfortable.

"Pop! Goes the Hottie", Oh goodie, a new game. It's so much more fun to look for hotties than sleazels.

I think Toadhead wanted the nookie so he could fantasize about the nubile young Kenia. Double ick.

Marta, I noticed the cantina name before and was driving myself nuts trying to remember where I'd heard it. Thank you Ms. Eagle Eye.

Isn't it funny how Enrique and Doc Whipped were on the outs at the beginning of this show and now they are practically best buds? I almost fell over backwards with Doc Tovar told Begona he had cheated on her.

Thanks again Sara!

Hi, Sara:

It is so great to have you back. I thought your recap was snappy and just dandy. And yeah for you—the end of semester approaches.

Like you Marta, I didn't know the part about Rosendo and Augusto fighting over Estafania. Wow! She really went for older men, didn't she?

I thought Damian's demands on Elisa are a little much. Give it a rest, man, you just dumped your lying girlfriend and you hardly know the adult Elisa. How 'bout a wooing that is a little less rough?

Lord, Carmina is lucky—Damian didn't QUITE catch her in flagrante. But I love that he is being given so many of the puzzle pieces.

Ay yi yi, this 'Elisa as Rosendo's daughter" plotline of Carmina's will just play right into Alfonsina plan for Damian.

Finally, I have a request of the writers, Let us see Damian smile a little. I know he is depressed but let's see a little more dentition from our Hero.

Thanks again, Sara.

EJ

Hang in there Sara. School will be over soon and this was masterful. You got everything that happenede last night with plenty of snark.

Not my favorite episode last night except for the good Doc telling Be-gon-ya, well, begone. Didn't expect him to fess up, but glad he left. Don't want him heading back to Carmina, he should know what that was really all about, but is there anyone decent out there for this poor guy?

We went from screeching Be-gon-ya to screechy Irritating. Lucky us. Gab has it bad for this chick, I almost feel sorry for him. But he needs to get her out of Dodge before Alfi finds out. And he's not exactly being covert about their relationship--what would Alfi say, hhmmm. ( Loved the wink at the desk clerk)

A Braulio siting. And Horacio--man Armand is bringing the cute sexy to this role. Want this guy to turn the corner to the good side.

The whole "make a choice" really ticked me off last night. Gael was no better, but Dam really turned on the prissy attitude, tight neck muscles and all. ( Drives me nuts, sorry, when he does that.) Glad our girl blew them both off. But it gave us a good Gae;/Padre scene---love those.

So Steffie chose Assgusto over Rosendo? Really? I would like to say they are trying to compare past and present, but c'mon. If they are trying to say Gael is the present day Assgusto, not buying it. But at least we can guess where the plot will go now that Lucio knows the "secret".

Hope tonight is less waterworks, little more action and some "fun" stuff again.
(Anyone else hoping that in the Be-gon-ya/Paloma slap scene, Ramona would walk in and send that screechy b**** flying? We should be so lucky.)

Sara, you are really a trouper! Just over a migraine and dealing with the end of the school year yet you deliver with a concise, fun recap! " Carmina and Paolo slime and slobber on each other." .......That REALLY describes their relationship doesn't it!  Thanks Sara!

This episode seemed dull on the surface, but we learned a lot of new stuff. Can't wait for Anon207's list!

Daisy and EJ, I agree, DZ/Damian needs to smile a little more and be less "prissy" in his attitude. Also, there  is a frightful component to his anger.

Wasn't it just last week that Carmina was saying that her husband had lost interest in her, then last night she blows him off when he makes  his move! She is truly difficult to watch. It 's just everything, her painted look, exaggerated movements, and her kissing (slobbering) techniques! Ugggg.

Eric d C is really doing an incredible job with Lucio. I'm glad he and Augusto had a talk, Augusto needs a good confidant, and it looks like it won't be little miss grifter, obviously a chip off madre-grifter.

I don't understand why the novela production people dress Elisa like they do, poor thing, she looks trashy yet her character is an angel.  Really don't like her wardrobe!

Sara thanks for this recap. It was very good and you add the snark we love (Pop goes the Hottie).

Sylvia - yes I do love that the Doc and his son are now buds. I also like the Doc's character arc. He realizes he made a horrible mistake but his wife is unbearable. I don't think he'll fall back to the Orange Ho. Perhaps some nice older woman will come into town.

Sandy - on Elisa's wardrobe you are spot on. I know the producers want to show off AB's body but her character is supposed to be a virgin (yet her outfits scream something else).

EJ, I think Damián has smiled exactly twice in this TN -- both times with Eliza. The rest of the time he's just looked constipated.

Great recap, Sara. Love the bulleted format. I couldn't watch last night, but I feel like I got all the chisme!

wow, super gross how charles bronson suddenly wanted to make the love to his orangina after fantasizing about kenia.

but i have to ask again, are his broken glasses something other people have noticed? are they a plot point? does the actor wear glasses in real life?

and just as importantly, what's with gabino's hand wrap? that looks so uncomfortable.

mai tai

Sara: Loved the format - you covered it all.

I know I should like Damian, but there is something about him - like he's made of cardboard. Big question - who will deliver the news to Dam and Elisa that they are half siblings? Then there is Gael - he's a half sibling, too.

Padre Lupe knows the truth - how will he tell it?

Augusto drops lower on the scale of human measurement.

Sara, don't worry that you aren't doing a great recap because you really are.

Maybe the writers are having Augusto looking awful right now on purpose. Perhaps they are planning on having him change his appearance as he tries to impress Kenia, or maybe Kenia will work on his appearance as they form a relationship. Better hair style, glasses and clothes. But the entire premise of him getting it on with Kenia is too disgusting to give thought to.

"Big question - who will deliver the news to Dam and Elisa that they are half siblings? Then there is Gael - he's a half sibling, too."

Even though in the short term it may make Lucio spill to Elisa about Dam, they can't let this hang out there because it ruins that dynamic of the two brothers fighting over the same girl. So it becomes, how does the result falsification happen. Does Lucio demand another test since he can't believe Steff would sleep with Rosendo? Or does Horacio take to heart Lola's "get your act togther" advice and confess. Gab could blackmail Carmina, but she doesn't have any cash...will prove interesting.

Sara, as always, I think that your recap is delightful. I especially liked this early line:

"...Dam is not wearing a shirt, so I don't pay attention."

I understand.

Loved Gabino's wink at the desk clerk and even more, her bored, I've seen this before, look.

Even more, Begoña's stylish backhand of Paloma in the avances... A score of 10 from this Texas judge. Very well executed.

Glad that the DNA evidence is bubbling up. This simply can't hang out there for very long. Two brothers in love with their sister?... Next!

Carlos

Gab might blackmail Carmina for the casa azul. He tried that once before. (Apparently it does belong to her.)

Stuff we learned in this episode:

Ingrid learned her check is missing.

Gabino learned Ingrid had a son with Rosendo, and that son is entitled to half of the Arango fortune.

Ramona learned Paloma is willing to look like a happy ho to hook Gael.

Paloma learned looking like a happy ho is what led to her mom taking up with her unsavory dad.

Damian learned Carmina is still using the blue hidey hole he caught her tipping out of 15 years before.

Guido learned Florencia knows he's broke.

Sabrina learned Enrique still has a job at the PRO CE SA DO RA and still has the hots for Flor.

Begoña learned Edmundo swizzled his stick in another lady's mix.

Edmundo learned Begoña is more concerned about being the butt of gossip than him or the state of their marriage.

We learned Edmundo can read English (although this shouldn't be a surprise since he has some degree from Canada on his office wall).

Sabrina & Enrique learned their dad just can't take it anymore.

Damian & Gael learned they have absolutely no game when it comes to Elisa.

I learned Televisa is recycling the "Sniffles & Curls Theme Music from MEPS" *yuk*

The only one who knows who are the parents of Gael, Elisa, and Damian, is Padre. Doc has suspicions, and knows who isn't but he doesn't have definitive proof of who is. I can see Lucio telling Padre what he was told about Elisa's parents, but Padre would deny it emphatically, even though he can't say who is.

We also learned from Padre that Rosendo & Augusto fought over Estefania back in the day, so it appears we had our own quadrangle way back when:

Alfonsina is justified in thinking Rosendo was in love with Estefania because he WAS.

Alfonsina = Paloma, the dark haired one no one wants

Estefania = Elisa, the fair town beauty everyone fights over

Rosendo = Damian, the rich boy who gets what he wants

Augusto = Gael, the humble guy who hopes to win the town beauty

I wonder if Alfonsina & Estefania had ever been friends, until Rosendo came between them?

Does Edmundo actually know the results of the DNA test? I believe he handed it to Augusto unopened.

Marta, like daisynjay I have been mulling over the fact that Estefania chose Augusto over Rosendo. Our first reaction is "Que???" because of the way that Augusto has been acting since her death, and our memories that Rosendo was basically a good guy. But maybe Stef knew that Rosendo had a wandering eye and that's why she chose Augusto. Stef's Augusto was kind of a control freak but he wasn't the sadistic jerk he is now.

I like how the relationships in this TN are complex. I know they are trying to make the comparison of Augusto/Rosendo to Gael/Damian but in my mind each situation is just too unique.

Anon207, I love your lists. Your last question, were Alfonsina and Estefania ever friends, is an interesting one. Alfonsina doesn't really have any friends now except for Begona, so I'm going to guess F and S were never anything more than acquaintances. Does anyone remember anything different?

Blue Lass, even if Doc didn't read the results couldn't he tell by Augusto's reaction? I don't exactly remember how the scene went down.

Well, Alfonsina is MUCH older than Steffi, so it seems as if they would have made unlikely friends.

Sylvia, Augusto read the DNA results in his despacho. Then he burned them up.

Oh that's right. I remember now. Well that's good because if I were Elisa and "found out" that Augusto were not my real dad I would demand to see the results. What no results? Well then I would demand another test.

Blue Lass and Sylvia, I'm fairly certain that Doc Tovar did not look at the results (at least we didn't see him look at them) and that as Blue Lass notes. Augusto read them in private, but... I'm sure that if the Doc learns the results he will be verrrry suspicious since Carmina was so desperate for him to agree to alter them.

Carlos

I like the idea that Doc Tovar might be the one blow he whistle on Carmina. I hope he doesn't re-succumb to her feminine wiles.

Great bulleted recap, Sara. Well done!

Way to go, Damián. What an ass. Yep, no wooing necessary, just aggressively demand of your beloved that she choose, just like that! No need to treat her in a way that she choose you. Seems to me Damián is feeling just a bit too entitled here. I'm glad she told them both to go to hell. I was so annoyed at Damián.

Lovely parallel plot development that Damián see the blue house again, remember the earlier time, and sure enough, after Paolo leaves, same exit by Carmina. He notices she doth protest too much. I hope it doesn't take him too long to put things together, but given that this would be a major reveal, I assume it will be very late in the story before he come to any revealing conclusions. There are a lot of other plot twists to get through first - especially the paternity business.

Yay for our adorable little criminal mastermind, Kenia, for swiping that check! Ingrid's desperation was delicious! Couldn't have happened to a nicer mom!

Yay on Dr. Tovar for confessing his fling! Begonia just wouldn't listen that their marriage was in very bad shape! Well, she couldn't ignore that glaring evidence, now could she? And I am glad that Doc and Quique are building a father-son bond, finally.

Yep, the Doc handed the results over to Assugus without looking at them, but I like your idea Blue Lass that he may start connecting the dots if he hears how they came out. Plus, wouldn't the lab have a record of the results to go back and pull if Elisa demanded a copy?

I agree this comparison on past and present isn't fitting really well here Anon. I thought once that Rosendo hinted he was sort of tricked into marrying Alfi (thinking she got pregnant with Dam--or said she was), maybe I got that wrong.

Sylvia,
ITA on
Stef's Augusto was kind of a control freak but he wasn't the sadistic jerk he is now.

besides Augusto had something else working in his favor, apparently Estefania Was INDEED in LOVE with Assgusto. whereas Gael is here definitely the underdog, not only in the finances but also in the self-esteem and also in the fact that Elisa does not love him, she loves Damian...
I agree that Rosendo was indeed in love with Estefania back in the day but Alfonsina just projected that into the years after as if Rosendo was still looking for Stefi when he knew Stefi was NOT THAT KIND of woman, so he was looking elsewhere for what he was not finding at home...
AssGusto was indeed a control freak and with a very short jealousy fuse... but he did love his wife and daughter very much.
so Gael is a bigger underdog here than AssGusto was in the past. But he does have the huge heart of gold and deserves someone who will treat him right as well.

Sara - I thoroughly enjoyed your snappy recap. Thank you. Oh, the games we could play with Pop Goes the Hottie / Sleazel / Pregnancy Test .

I know I have been thinking this, and apologize if I've already written it, but doesn't Horacio look like the little brother, Albert, on Little House on the Praire all grown up?

So glad Damian remembered that Casa Azul sighting of Apricot-Ho back in the day. Now tell somebody!

Sandy in TN - Carmina is an awful kisser. How can invisible lips be so slobbery? And what's with all this new lip biting kissing going on? Is that how they do it now? Whatever happened to a good ol' French kiss and swapping gum? Now *that* was a kiss.

R la O

Audrey, the way you describe Damian's behavior, he kind of reminds me more of Augusto than of Rosendo. (Thinking of the comparisons between the current generation and the former.) Rosendo didn't seem to be as much of a control freak. Hopefully Damian will chill out and give Elisa some room. (Because Elisa truly loves him, just as Stef loved Augusto.) Nevertheless, I cheered her when she kicked both those guys out of her house.

Marta, "Gael is a bigger underdog here than AssGusto was in the past. But he does have the huge heart of gold and deserves someone who will treat him right as well." Great observation. Gael is one of my favorite characters.

Carlos, ITA on
I'm sure that if the Doc learns the results he will be verrrry suspicious since Carmina was so desperate for him to agree to alter them.

Audrey, ITA on
Seems to me Damián is feeling just a bit too entitled here.

daisynjay,
I think i recall something similar so you might be onto something with...
I thought once that Rosendo hinted he was sort of tricked into marrying Alfi

Alfie reminded Rosendo early on of how long it took them to have a child, because of her age -- so I don't think he was tricked into marrying her in that way. I'm assuming she was more of a "novia formal" -- the girl your family has deemed appropriate for you, that you know you'll end up marrying eventually, but you make sure you spread your wild oats first.

LOL Blue Lass!
sort of the plot we had at the beginning of CS'93 with Don Francisco, Sofia and Juan's mother.

"but you make sure you spread your wild oats first"...and DURING!

even Gael finally had a 'say' in the 'gossip' surrounding Rosendo/Estefania/AssGusto..
'you are comparing me and Damian with Rosendo and AssGusto.. yeah that man stole another man's woman!' ... funny how Padre just froze staring at Gael when Gael was ranting over Damian's behavior. and then told Gael that it was because he was reliving the same arguments Rosendo and AssGusto used to have...

and Ramona's statement to Damian in the first scene... you two (Gael and him) will always be close friends... there are bonds stronger than that between a man and a woman...

Thanks Blue...so Alfi would really be more like Flo in that sense. The "settled for" when you didn't get the girl of your dreams.

Wonderful comments, everyone.

Now I am fixated on Damian and what a mess he would likely be (psychologically) with his horrid background.

Zepeda's playing Damian as arrogant but soft-hearted, quick to judge but with eyes wide open, jealous and possessive with an underlying depression and fatalism. That's a pretty good interpretation by the director and good acting by Zepeda.

But in order for the audience to fall in love with Damian we need to see him lighten up, a lot. He's only smiled two times, Blue Lass? Wow. That's telling. And Sandy, he is frightening when he is angry. Right now it seems that Elisa and Father Lupe truly love Dam and that Lucio and Ramona are fond of him but he is still acting a lot like Alfonsina's son. With all his emotional deprivation, warming up and letting go are not going to be easy for him.

Just a little armchair shrinkage over the morning coffee...

EJ

Goodness gracious, I think it is a reach to say that Augusto is a sadist, which to me implies getting pleasure from torturing others. Augusto hasn’t had a “pleasant” moment, with the exception of one daydream since Stephe died. Augusto has had terrible, FALSE information planted in his head and he is WRONGLY turning his rage against those around him, especially his daughter, but his actions don’t quite measure up to sadism. I think he will have to pay for his mistakes, and pay dearly, perhaps jumping in front of a loaded habanero truck to save Elisa as someone else suggested, but I don’t think he is a sadist and is far below Ingrid (the worse) Rosendo, Gabino, Carmina and Horacio on the sliding scale of evil!

On Augusto’s look, he can only hope to redeem himself with good works, if possible. I don’t think there is a make-over artist or stylist in Mexico that can significantly change his looks even with new glasses, new hat and a better hair cut....no way! He needs to lose that green shirt as well! If he plans a new work-out regime, he’ll need what Berry Bonds used, the bad stuff!

I wish they would cast young people to play the part of teenagers, it will be strange to see Augusto romancing Kenia, but not as truly creepy as if she really looked like Sabrina! It will be creepy enough KNOWING that she is underage even if she looks very mature, I guess!

EJ, yes, Damian is acting like Alfonsina son and that is why we aren’t liking him. I really hadn’t thought about it in that way! Great “shrinkage!”

EJ, Damian would certainly be a great case study for psychology adn sociology class, given all hsi torturous background, his mother and the impression he has of watching his father walk away on them like that.
Sandy... I agree aobut Augusto..
I think he will have to pay for his mistakes, and pay dearly, perhaps jumping in front of a loaded habanero truck to save Elisa as someone else suggested,

Oh Sara, I love your bullet point recaps. It's a fast and funny read. My favorite kind!

I had Carlos' favorite line pegged as well, but my other fave was

{Carmina}"channeling the spirit of William Levy."

Amen. She is as mush-mouthed and incomprehensible as our hunky Cuban. Who by the way was shaking his tush (tuch?) on TV last night during Dancing with the Stars and was absolutely awesome.

Damian...yep. Not attractive right now. Needs to smile more and get a little bit of a tan. He's too white, and too grim.

our hunky Cuban. Who by the way was shaking his tush (tuch?) on TV last night during Dancing with the Stars and was absolutely awesome.
JudyB... even Len the judge was noticing that... LOL!!

i caught a couple of flashes on preview that made me giggle...
a man with bare hands and forearms (no bandana hand sonot Gabino and not the members only jacket so no Damian) and a woman with long wavy onyx black hair (too long for Kenya)...
i bet that is Gael and Paloma...
then we see Padre Loopy and Elisa sneaking behind him, both looking as if they had just seen a ghost... that sounds promising.

But in order for the audience to fall in love with Damian we need to see him lighten up, a lot.

lets see.. Damian smiles...
1. when he came over to see Elisa at night to clear up the 'first encounter' misunderstanding/mishap.
2. when he reconciled with Gael at the rectory/church house.
3. when Padre Loopy came in that same night and found Gael/Dam smiling.
4. At Lucio at procesadora
5. telling Paloma he was going to get with Elisa
6. Same day, telling Padre loopy he would reconcile with Elisa next day.
i dont think he smiled any of the two times he has kissed Elisa... definitely not when she backed off when he tried to kiss her a 3rd time...
did I miss any?

I agree, EJ, we need to see Damian smile... he does look cardboardy when he tenses his face...

Thanks Sandy for your accurate assessment of Augusto. Right now he is being punished on a daily basis. I really hope that he learns the truths about Steffy and Elisa sooner rather than later. With his rotten luck he will probably finally look up at Elisa, smile, and with his last breath gasp mi hija.

And who don't like him will feel soooo bad.

Carlos

Sandy, I think you're right about the sadism -- it's Gabino and Carmina who are sadists, because they really seem to *enjoy* others' pain.

Marta, I guess there were a few more smiles than I gave Dam credit for! He does really love those people you mentioned and was happy to see them. But I think most of the smiles were blink-and-you-miss-them...

Why is/was Rosendo such a good guy? He apparently had affairs at will and fathered at least two children, Gael and Carmina's spawn. Granted, Alfonsina is a *itch, but, he could have filed for divorce. Maybe Steffi rejected him because he wasn't so nice.

Can anyone please tell me why Assgusto's glasses , the right lens seems to be broken, this makes him looks more weird than ever. I enjoy reading all the blogs about this novella. thank you.

Rosendo would have booked it in a second I thing, but I don't think divorce was an option for Alfi. She is the typical TN matriarch who regards herself as a good daughter of the church. No way would she go the divorce route ( and her brother is a Padre to boot.) So I agree, we kind of get caught up with Rosendo frankly because, dang, it was Cesar playing him. You can argue he loved his son, but frankly, he was willing to ditch him and run away with Carmina, and he wouldn't acknowledge Gael,so not exactly a stellar father of the year. And when you compare him to Augusto as we see him now, there's a tendency to think Rosendo perhaps better than he really was. (Maybe why Steff choose Broken glasses man...Rosendo was too much of a playboy type for her. She was awfully sweet and quiet.)

Of course, it would be fun that he DID leave something for Gael in his will, but Alfi won't spill and give it to him??

Glad others are admitting to not exactly "liking" Dam right now. He makes me squirm when he gets all arrogant and entitled--very Alfi is so true. (And it just keeps making me go back to his character in Sortilegio - and I know he was evil there, but also felt "privileged" and turned on that prissy nose-up attitude. So Dam/DZ, stop it!)

Carlos, “With his rotten luck he will probably finally look up at Elisa, smile, and with his last breath gasp mi hija.” Too funny! I just hope I have the patience to make it to that heartwarming moment!

I’m glad we are discussing Damian as well. Is it a finely tuned “Alfosina” interpretation of his character, or is it that DZ brings too much tight-lipped anger/arrogance to any role? I do think he has shown a lot tender chemistry in Abismo that I hadn’t seen before now.

Anon 4:26: I don’t know why the Augusto character has a broken lens in his glasses. I’m sure that the glasses are a prop and perhaps in an austerity move, the production people went with the broken lens instead of a replacement. I haven’t heard any of the characters mention the lens! Maybe someone else has more info. Welcome if this your first visit!

re: the case of the broken glasses-- i think i noticed the subtle catch of light in that right lens shortly after steffie died, but i can't say for sure. he wasn't in a car crash, or in a fist fight, was he?

the one thing that newly occurred to me, is perhaps they're supposed to be a sign of their poverty? isn't that an important feature, that his business is struggling? so he hasn't got the dinero to fix his glasses, nor does he spend money on guppyface or elisa. an important reminder when their house is so gorgeous!

I just assume the broken glasses are a symbol of Agusto's stubborn and intractable personality, and that he can't "see clearly".

Back off of Dam Fine! He's new in town. He's gonna be reserved. He left town as a child. He doesn't know those people anymore. He loves Elisa. He's gonna get jealous. If he wasn't jealous, that would be odd. And since were discussing who we don't like: I don't like Elisa (she whines and cries and moans and sobs and cries). I hate when she comes on the screen. Frankly, I like ALL of the bad guys except paolo. I also abhor Gael. Mrs. Kravitz makes
me laugh. Alfonsina is a bitch, but she's a good one. Carmina is so bad that she's fun. If ELISA is on the screen, the odds are she's gonna cry or fall into lolitas arms.

I am absolutely sick and tired of Elisa crying on every episode! And the way she enunciates every word when she cries.. like "por..que....tengoo..que...tomarrr... la culpaaa?!?" does anybody know what i mean?

Obviously Novice: thank you! U r my new bff!

wow! juicy episode! and looks like i am going to get a DOOZY tomorrow!! yay!!

Paloma, i could not envy you more right about now... lol jk ...
