Una Familia Con Suerte #249-250 Mon 5/14/12 Go Directly to Jail, Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect Any Pesos and Then Meet the Hummingbird

Into the home stretch:  Rebe and Doña Rebe caress the twins and prepare to be strong.  Pancho poses for his mug shots with time to smile and make smarty remarks.  The prison toadie is glad to see Pancho in the booking room.  Rebe updates Pina and Sebastian asking that Pina approve her return in Pancho’s absence so they can begin to prove that this whole fraud scheme was concocted by Vicente.  They concur that it must have taken a real expert to take so much money and move it out of the country so quickly while blaming Pancho who wasn’t even there.  Vicente could not have done it alone but he surely did it.

We see the Directora again who suggests many pleasures in exchange for many pleasures.  She expected more class and elegance from the famous Pancho, instead he smells common and looks worse.  (This is the great comedic actress Patricia Reyes Spíndola who was Quintina in Fuego en La Sangre and guess what? She is from my beloved Oaxaca): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patricia_Reyes_Sp%C3%ADndola

At the home front the children plan how to cope.  Enzo will cope by thinking of how to help Pancho but going back to his work.  While at Avon, Rebe threatens Vicente that she is on to him and sooner or later will prove that he set Pancho up only to win control of the presidency.  She backs Vice up against his desk, promising that he will be the one in jail soon while Pancho will go free.  Ever the dreamer, Vice does a little tap dance in defiance.

Back at the prison, the Directora threatens then executes the worst treatment for Pancho who says he would rather be treated the same as any prisoner and is not available for her pleasure games.

Rebe and Pina decide to enlist the aid of Chacho but Freddie seems to have gone to the dark side with his Paps.  Pancho is shown into a cell by a sympathetic guard who I think would rather get his his autograph than lock him up.  In the cell is a 14 year-old cellmate also glad to meet the famous Pancho.  Pancho calls him the hummingbird (colibrí), I guess it is his name.  I didn’t catch the nature of his crime, but he did swear his innocence.

Oh, we can’t get through a week without Temo crying the ugly cry but this time the point is the kids all corner Candi and tell her that she is supporting the crook who has put their Papa in the carcel.  Chela is there to support the kids and agree with their condemnation.  Candi stubbornly supports her husband whom she loves and trusts against all evidence to the contrary.  The children one by one file out with their disgust at her betrayal of her own family and brother.  Even Ana declares her delusional and she should know.  Chela tries one last time to tell her what harm she is causing by her blindness.

Enzo makes his try with the Vice.  He tells him he is resigning his big Monterrey presidency to come back to Avon to support him in this exciting new presidency he has wanted for so long.  Well your old job is taken, sneers Vice.  I know, it doesn’t matter rejoins, Enzo.  And Pina is going to be a problem.  I know.  They tip glasses for the morning whiskey break.

Pina tries to disarm her suspicious son as she reassures Freddy that no matter what, he is the most important person for her.  He knows Ana is going to marry Adrian and besides he is busy with so much to do (like understand finances in a multi million dollar corp. by lunchtime?)

Rebe returns to the sleeping twins and her Moms.  She worries and thinks of Pancho who in split screen worries about her.  They miss each other.

Pancho has a chance to trade jokes with the friendliest guard when Rebe show up.  He misses his children, their bedroom and her caresses.  They get unexpected kiss and hugging time.  The guard Anselmo has to stop the love fest but only after some good face macking.  They discuss their worries over how Avon will survive although he is reassured the children will be fine with Rebe and all their supporters.

Candi faces Vicente who pretends that although he always wanted the presidency, he hates that it had to be because Pancho committed such a huge fraud.  His crocodile tears seem to assure Candi, well almost.

Rebe and Pancho have a tearful parting at the end of the visitors’ hour.

Ana plans to go see Pina.  When she arrives Pina is very friendly but Ana asks first whose side are you on.  Pina understands Ana’s deep distrust of her but she is going to help Pancho now.  Enzo similarly disarms Freddy with promised help and advice and  assures him that Vice knows he is going to help Freddy so they need to work hard together and not bother Vice with the details so Freddy can prove his competence to his father.

The prison Directora directs Gargoyle to exact payback from Pancho Lopez for insulting and threatening her.  He is only too, too excited with this delightful assignment.  He leaves and the Directora flirts with her own reflection in the large mirror she keep in her desk just for these intimate moments.  She would do well working with Vice, she is sipping expensive a big red wine in a crystal stemmed glass.

Pina explains to Ana that she cannot approach Freddy directly as it will be taken negatively as he is in total support of his Paps.  However, if Ana isn’t marryng Adrian right away (and she isn’t since Papancho has been jailed). Fina thinks Ana can reestablish confidence with Freddy so they can find out what he knows.

Doña Rebe tells tall handsome Pablo that although he thrills her to the marrow, she is uncomfortable going out in pubic with him.  Their age difference is making a difference.

Chacho and Sandrita fight over who is supporting Pancho and who is with HER boss.  This is just before Chacho  is told by the doctor that his sperm has little motility, in otherwords, they are lazy slackers.  He is given pills to take for 3 months to put energy into his sperm.

Next in the prison yard, Colibrí and Pancho trade jokes when Gorgoyle shows up to deliver his message from la Directora, which turns out to be several strong blows, knocking him down while blood spews from his mouth.  Gargoyle threatens more and worse the next time.

Pancho explains that Directora offered him cable and champagne and many delights in exchange for his pleasuring.  Colibrí thinks this sounds like the best deal in the world.  He can’t understand why Pancho would hesitate.

Vicente gives one of his famous press conferences assuring the innocent media staff crowded around him with their network microphones that he has been preparing for this role for years and a good thing since Pancho has been cheating the company for a long time too.  He takes special care to paint as negative a picture of Pancho as he can.  Even Arnoldo rolls his eyes at the audacity of his lies.

Ana now has to tell Adrian that not only does she want to postpone the wedding given her Papancho’s incarceration, but Pina has urged her to approach Freddy to try to get him to reveal the trick his father is playing so they can spring Pancho.   Adrian has an impressive snit going as he is sure this will spoil his big plans for an immediate wedding.  They may as well break off, he snaps at her with that brittle temper.  Ana just as strongly assures him she intends to marry him but given the state of things, she will do anything in her power to get her father out of jail.  Like it or lump it.

Pina and Sebe work with Rebe to figure out how to track the money transfer.  It seems most of the security tapes in the areas of finance and computing are missing and the cameras were turned off at some point.  Sebe is still convinced that he can find some camera tapes to see what led up to the event.

Ana explains her plan to Pepe, Moni and Lupita.  Pepe asks her what she really feels for Pollis.  She pauses for commercials before she answers with long eye lashes batting faster than her heart is beating.  Prepare for a major pitching of fits by Adrian, well, I’m just saying.

Even Chacho’s ever-present lollypop is drooping sadly to show us evidence of his dilemma.  Sandra tries to get him excited about taking his meds and exercising those lazy old sperms.  Vicente interrupts these plans with a demand that Sandrita address him properly as PRESIDENTE, PRESIDENTE.  Chacho speaks his mind that he is only president because of his betrayal of Pancho.  Vicente runs him off.  In his office Vicente insults her parents and low social status.  She leaves with tears in her eyes.  Enzo and Freddy come in to brief Vicente on the state of the state of affairs financially that is.

Ana assures her siblings that she doesn’t mind having to approach Freddy even though Adrian is going postal, after all she still loves the Fredster…

Another session with Señora Directora who spits most of a cigar on him while he calls her on her taking advantage of people and being corrupt.  Apparently this turns her on more than anything but no cigar, so to speak, so she kicks him out and plans the next level of revenge.

Enzo pretends fidelity to Vicente in front of Freddy but gets busted by Chela who walks into his office in the middle of Enzo’s speech and doesn’t get his ploy at all, no sirree, not at all.

Temoc does a crying scene over how badly the school kids are teasing him about his rattero father.  He hates studying because he doesn’t want to face more of this in school.  Rebe has become the most genuine and affectionate of step-Moms.  She offers him hugs and advice now and reassurance whenever he needs it.  (Wish I had someone like that, don’t you?)

Pancho and Colibrí make jokes in the laundry room at the prison.  Chela hesitates to forgive and trust Enzo that his words were to get into Freddy’s confidence.

Ana makes her very sophisticated and sexy entrance into Freddy’s office and the ploy works like crazy.  This time we are glad that he is so impressionable and gullible.  Ana only has to plant a juicy kiss on his lips to bring them back together.  Ana remembers telling Pina she was ready to delay things with Adrian to approach Freddy since Pina will only raise his suspicions.  Never mind, the prolonged hug looks like it is worth any fits coming from Adrian.  And Freddy looks euphoric and not at all defensive.

Chela says she has bad news for Enzo and must deliver it right now even in the conference room or wherever.  Then she grins and says Ponchito is going to get a brother.  Enzo is delighted and we are all relieved to have a break from the doomsday atmosphere of Avon if only for a few minutes.

Chela says she is so happy with Enzo and their life whether it is in Monterrey or elsewhere but he reassures her that he is here not only right now to get Pancho out of jail but because he cares for Avon and most of all he loves her.

Ana tells Freddy that she realized she doesn’t love Adrian enough so she is back.  He is really happy and so ready to be convinced.

Somewhere in here, Violeta comes in with the worst haircut on the planet but nevermind, that red lowwwww cut dress distracts Vicente as she sidles into his office and back into his life.

Pina asks Sebastian if she did wrong to steer Ana toward Freddy.  He says yes.  But she thinks in spite of saving Avon and Pancho that Ana and Freddy are really in love and will end up being very happy together.  Sebastian says he worries about the interdependence between her and her son since she seems to need to manipulate his life still.  Their honest discussions are so refreshing.  He isn’t judging her so much as observing astutely what he sees her doing.  She is now able and willing to admit her weakness regarding her hermosho.

Colibrí and Pancho continue joking and sharing stories in the laundry room.  Colibri shares that he is in for 50 years for killing either the dancer he is in love with or his rival.  (Anyone catch this?  I will correct it if anyone cares…

Pina and Sebastian get into the important business of learning each other’s preferences. They discuss favorite foods and favorite cities.  Charmingly, his favorite city is whatever city Pina is in.  Ahhhhhh.

Vicente the vapid meets with Don David who he turns into a strangling scene when the yellow happy face turns deep purple but David assures him that if he kills him that everyone will get an email revealing all the details of his crime.  He wants more money now.  Vicente assures him that tomorrow he will have more money put into his account.  When pie face David leaves, Vicente looks like he doesn’t have a clue where that money will come from since he sent all those millions out of the country in order to ruin Pancho.

Adrian whines to Pepe and Moni that he doesn’t like Ana approaching Freddy even if it is to save her Papancho.  This should be a sign to Adrian but it is certainly one to Pepe and Moni.  Adrian is sure that the wedding will be called off but Pepe and Moni say that isn’t certain.  Hmmmm…wanna bet?

Chela shares her good news with Candi then questions Candi’s undying loyalty to Vicente.  She asks Candi if Vicente loves her as much as she loves him.  Candi pretends certainty but we see scenes of Vicente’s tryst with Violeta after Candi finds telltale evidence of Vicente’s infidelity in their bedroom tomorrow.  Pancho will continue in solitary confinement for not giving pleasure to Senora Directora.  Rebe gets up in Directora’s face with threats of her own.

The follow on telenovela, Un Refugio para Amor, is again advertised for a May 24th beginning with still no grande finale night for Una Familia con Suerte but that means this is my penultimate recap.  I am going to need some time off this summer.  Excuse me while I skip out to watch Damian swab his hot muscles at the cenote until Ramona so inconveniently interrupts our view over on Abismo.  But I digress, until next week!  Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement about my eye surgery and subsequent recovery.  I am ecstatic with the continued success of the whole venture.

Oh, Cheryl what a delightful recap for this TN. UFCS ends on the 23rd next week. Refugio starts on the 24th. I loved Enzzo as a spy. He was so convincing. Ana too. Adrian can just go away. Can't stand him and his temper.

I like how Pina went to Ana, and that Ana actually went with the plan to get info out of Freddy. Back in the middle of this TN there would have been no way Pina would have talked to her, or Ana would have listened. They really have come a long way. Love Pina and Sebas together.

What the hey is Violetta doing back? You are so right Cheryl about that hair. It is very fugly. And Vice, he is sinking further and further down. Candy should not have gone back to him.

Ya know Pancho's treatment in jail is almost the same as what Tomas got, except Pancho is famous. That Directora is a tool. Hopefully she ends up in the carcel in the end.

Thank you SO much Cheryl. I am stuck for the week in Columbia, SC in a hotel. I have HBO, but absolutely no latin channels. Arrgg! Your detailed recap helped me picture it all. I love all the spying and undercover stuff that's happening.

Thanks for the quick response and check in, Madelaine and Vivi. This episode has the elements that have made me love this TN. There is a closing of ranks and great cooperation among the Lopez family and the Avon family members when ever there is a problem to be solved or something difficult to endure. The exception to that has been Vicente in both families. He has never cooperated in a generous way with anyone. He has co-opted, he has hoodwinked, he has lusted when he should have loved thereby squandering his great intelligence and handsome appeal. He is probably the most interesting character study since right near the end I have no idea whether he will redeem himself before it does end. The reintroduction of Violeta into his life is the worst omen for anything positive to turn in his head. I hate having him force his loyal, naive son to show fidelity even though he is acting in a criminal and unloving way against everyone else in his life. He disrespects Freddy and Candy, the last people that still support him. His meanness when Doña Fer was unforgiveable. That probably was the end of my hope that he could turn it around.

I meant to say: HIs meanness when Doña Fer was dying was unforgiveable. He was hideous to her on what turned out to be her deathbed.

Great recap. A couple of things.

When Vicente ran Chacho off and was talking with Sandra, he did not insult her parents or lower social status. He basically said that Sandra knew quite a bit and then sweetly asked how her parents were doing regarding their health. Sandra answers his question. He then basically threatens her by saying something terrible could happen to her parents if she were to say anything.

So, we have first actress Patricia Reyes Spindola as the jail director, huh? She can certainly play any type of character she wants...from a mute woman to a flighty housekeeper to this character. Cool.

Someone asked about Yurem Rojas's character. If you guys remember, he was a child actor and singer. He was in the new Timbiriche band, which has since disbanded.

We don't learn why this character is in jail. Pancho asked him about another criminal who was with the evil Gargoil character. Pancho learns that they call Gargoil's friend Tarzan and that he was in jail for killing a neighbor who had a fling with Tarzan's girlfriend.

Now, we can all put two and two together, can't we? So, Yurem Rojas is a singer. So, I'll bet anything that toward the end of the show, he'll sing some kind of song with Sherlyn and the rest of the cast.

Cheryl, I got home late (from a very trying meeting) and couldn't wait to read your recap. I knew it would perk me up!

It's funny (as in weird) how this comedy has taken a bit of a dark turn. I was so hoping that Vicente would be redeemed but I just don't see it right now. And Freddie and Pepe are getting back onto the right love paths but only because they are thinking with their "little heads". Whatever works I guess.

No matter, it was still a fun romp. Cheryl your perspective is always delightful.

Thanks so much Cheryl. I always know I'm in for a tret on Tuesday morning. I have so enjoyed this show -- but hated the two hour marathons.

Ditto on Violetta's hair. It''s morse than ugly.

Ana sure looks hot since she gave herself a new look. No wonder Freddy couldn't think of anything else -- like the unlikely timing of her supposed change of heart. Freddy looked as if he were in heaven -- but Ana looked very distressed to be using him.

Pina's transformation has turned her into one of my favorite characters. I like her with Sebas.

I'm going to miss this show.

Cheryl- I so agree with you about Vice. I wish they had done more of a backstory on him in the beginning. They have mentioned everyone else's parents but not him. Dona Fer was always so sweet to him and I really hated how he treated her throughout this whole TN. From doctoring the DNA test, to being nasty to her on her deathbed. To me he is beyond redemption. He is really going to have to bring it before he can be redeemed. I have to say Sergio Sendel always plays a great villan.

Thanks, Cheryl. Who would have guessed that Pancho would end up getting Justin Bieber as a cellmate? I'm surprised the Directora didn't make Pancho share a cell with Gargoyle till he changes his mind.

Vice, What a worm. Since he seems to be in a hurry to run up the highest karma bill possible, I can only assume that he will not end up being among the luckier members of the family.

The, um, thing that happened to Don David's big yellow smiley after Vice caught a glimpse of his face would have been really funny in, say, 1974 when I didn't know any better.

I like how the main couple (Pancho & Rebe) got married fairly early on rather than drag that relatively unsuspenseful storyline out to the very end. I mean, imagine if we were still dealing with Sunkist Mike! It's more fun that we can spend more time on the other relationships which are more suspenseful. (Not that I have much doubt about Pepe or Ana, but now I'm dying to know who Adrian ends up with. Karina or Frida? I figure it must be one of them.)

Madelaine - interesting observation about Vice's parents. Maybe we're in for some startling revelations in the upcoming week!

When Vice was just starting to get together with Candy, he told her that he had put all of his asset's in Pina's name when they got married. Maybe the story behind THAT will finally be revealed (or maybe it already was and it was so lame I forgot?).

And waaaaay at the beginning of this TN, Pina hinted (to herself, I think) about some secret she knew about someone. I can't remember if it was Fernanda or Vice, but it never came up again, even when things started getting really ugly with Vice. So I don't know if that Big Secret fell by the wayside, plotwise, or if it's also something still to come.

Julie, I agree that it is nice that Rebe & Pancho got married and also Chela & Enzo and that there is lots of time to enjoy them together and with their babies. Yes it would have been horrible if we had been left with the Rebe/ Chela rivalry or with the uncommonly orange Mike right up to the end. Shudder!

We do still have mild suspense with the young threesomes and also with Candy. But lots of nice comfy loving from the grown ups.

Thanks Cheryl. Glad this is your penultimate recap because I know you, like the rest of the recappers, must be ready for this marathon to be over.

Thanks for catching me up on all the dark doings in this "comedy". I'm always at a meeting on Monday nights and when I do get back, I'm tuned in to the last minutes of Dancing with the Stars so I can watch William Levy shaking and baking. He's doing a phenomenal job dancing and all three judges gush over him like mad.

Cheryl, great recap.

Last night was pretty riveting. Pancho is normally so upbeat that it’s sad to see him in prison and getting a beat down. Loved Rebe getting in Vince's face about her man - makes up for all the crying she did while pregnant.

Goodness, Candy really is this clueless. In the end I hope she does something (anything) to help them nab Vince. She'll need this for her self-esteem.

ITA – seeing Ana and Pina working together was very satisfying.

In a so-called comedy that kills off its most delightful and endearing Doña Fernanda and has these dark prison scenes and various serious hospital scenes, this Una Familia has been nearly a genre by itself. I don't remember any other TN that was full of both comedy and tragedy.

Thanks for the clarifications JP, I always appreciate your background knowledge. Also Vice and Sandra's talk kind of slipped by before I could get the detail that it was a threat not just an insult. The Vice is just hopeless.

Sylvia, I agree that Pepe and Freddy's motives aren't the deepest but at least luck is leading them down the right path. I do hope something good comes along for Frida. She is the one that has been lead down the garden path even though she developed her own delusions against some good advice.

Guera, I can't figure out that haircut either. They have made a big mistake with a very pretty actress but perhaps it is so we all look at her smashing body in that huggie dress and not her head with the raccoon makeup and unfortunate top.

Madelaine, Julie, Judie and Niecie thanks for stopping by. We are all in the dark about Vicente's backstory and motivation. He seems so lost and so mean that I don't find him funny any longer although Sendel is one of my all time favorite TN actors. Maybe Pina will reveal more of his past when they flush him out. I won't hold my breath for Freddy to develop any curiosity.

Thank you, Cheryl! I'm sorry you had to subject your fresh new eyes to Violeta's vile new Luke, but glad you reported all the detail for us. I love your title, too.

A question...how is Colibri able to have and hold on to an MP3 player in prison? What sort of clout does this gentle kid have that the thugs seem to leave him alone and don't take his toy? I am curious to know why he's there.

Ana really seemed to feel terrible about manipulating Frauddie. I think she liked having an excuse to hug and kiss him, though. Is she just insisting on marrying Adrian to be stubborn? I cannot understand why she'd actually want to marry such an insecure, temperamental, whiny, jealous twerp.

Do we know that Hummingbird actually has an MP3 player? I saw one earbud but didn't notice a second; and it might not even be attached to anything.

Weird, I know; but hey, prison is a strange place.
