Brief English translation of the synopsis of Refugio para el amor...

"Refuge for love"

Luciana Jacinto is a beautiful, happy girl who lives in a norteño village with her family: Galdino, her father; Paz, her mother; and Lorenzo, her brother. After Galdino's death, she flees the sexual harrassment of Don Aquiles, boss of the town where she grew up. She comes to work in the mansion of the Torreslanda family in Mexico City, where she makes the acquaintance of Patricio, the protagonist's brother, who was left a quadriplegic as the consequence of a dramatic accident.

Rodrigo has the reputation of being a great womanizer; never the less, recently he has been trapped by the enchanting Gala and they've become engaged to marry. The beauty and simplicity of Luciana alter the daily life of the Torreslanda family. Rodrigo feels a strong attraction to her, while Gala and Roselena (Rodrigo's mother) can't stand her. Her great empathy with Patricio guarantees her place in the household. Patricio regains his wish to live thanks to Luciana, and Jana, the younger sister of the very close Torreslanda brothers, becomes her grand friend and accomplice.

Little by little, the sentiments of Rodrigo for Luciana become an intense and profound love, he then decides to break with Gala in order to marry Luciana in secret and together they confront everything that opposes them.

Except that, of course, as soon as the harpies begin to tell him lies about his sweetheart, he instantly believes them...

This sounds like an really interesting one. I want to recap this one but on Fridays.

Hmmmm. To watch or not to watch? Gabriel Soto does nothing for me. I wonder how much I'd like the setting and story. Brandon Peniche is good--I liked him in Niña de mi Corazón.

I watched the earlier last version of this story, called "Morelia", with Alfa Acosta and Arturo Peniche. It was a circo but I enjoyed it. I think this one is supposed to be more serious, from what I've heard they took the crazyness out of the story.

It's been very successful in Mexico. They show it at 5pm and it's breaking record in ratings for that timeslot. I think that was the reason Univision sent it to a night timeslot in the US. Who knows if it will be successful in the US, it's been proven that audiences there not always like the same things as audiences here.

Jarocha

Thank you Jarocha for letting us know how it is doing in Mexico. It sounds like such an interesting story. I can't wait for it to start.

Julia I like Gabriel Soto, love his humm, assets so to speak lol.
I like Harry Geithner too. They were both in LVO.

How interesting that a 5pm show in Mexico got a prime time spot in the U.S. Uni is putting a lot of faith in it. But surely, they don't think it's good enough to sustain a TWO hour slot?! It's not like it's a really original story or has major, audience-grabbing stars. Something's got to change with the schedule.

The last name of the rich family, Torreslanda, sort of sounds made up. Gringolandia (fresa slang for the U.S.) comes to mind. Also, there's a Padre Honesto?! Seriously? I guess we know he's honest. LOL! But can he keep a secret? Hmmm....

Huh, they are making it a two hour show? That's odd. There's only around 70 episodes already aired in Mexico. The novela could only stay like that for two months until they run out of episodes. Univision will need to air something else for the second hour soon.

Jarocha

You know, reading again the summary makes me realize that I've forgotten most of Morelia.

I just remember it was crazy and had lots of slaps (which supposedly here they'll tone down) and of course I also remember all the words to the beautiful theme song sang by Cristian Castro. I remembered it was set in Miami and reading back on it that novela was actually a co-production between Televisa and Univision (again, why did they advertise Eva Luna as their first novela?).

I really have no idea what goes on here. Hopefully you'll like it.

Jarocha

Jarocha, thank you for the link to the theme song of Morelia.

I watched it and lo and behold, whose name should jump out at me but Jorge Salinas. Why is Morelia NOT in his filmography -- or is it and I missed it.

Do you remember his character?

It would be hard to believe they would put a "serious" drama on for two hours at 7 pm. It's more likely that Univision will again shuffle the line-up.

It's funny, Gabriel Soto does nothing for me either, but I like him and his work. I may check in, once El Tal gets blown out to sea.

I'm really waiting for Amor Bravio and Silvia--gee I miss CME.
Anita

Anita:
I am looking for Amor Bravio, too. Silvia N. can do no wrong as far as I am concerned.

Hi, Jarocha, good to see you here.

EJ

Anita:

Ana Bertha Espín's name was also there (tía Rosaura from LQNPA), sorry, I don't remember either of their characters. I think Televisa sometimes only puts the most noticeable roles of their actors in their biographies and sites like Wikipedia and Imdb are filled by fans so they can contain mistakes or ommissions.

Hi Elna June! Thanks, I've been to post more but I'm lost on telenovelas right now. Even Abismo, since you have now reached the episodes that almost completly differ from the original.

Jarocha

Good luck with school Jarocha! I know you must be busy working on your thesis by now. Telenovelas can wait until after you're done.

I wonder if Jessica Coch will be good or evil? I am a fan, and I know Carlos and I both love her dazzling smile.

I thought the sinopsis sounded okay until I got to the last part... where the lying liars tell him lies and he totally believes them. Argh, argh, argh. One of my very least favorite telenovela gimmicks!!

This one sounds interesting, but I will probably not be watching anything that has 2 hour episodes. I'm dying to see how they schedule this. Jarocha, thanks for the information and background. Good luck with your thesis.

Anita, I am also eagerly awaiting Amor Bravio.

eck! Gabriel Soto is not galan material!!!

oh NO not more two hour shows!

I have been watching URPEA since in started in Mexico, through Dailymotion. I love the story of Rodrigo and Luciana. I thought the same thing that others have been saying about Gabriel Soto, but he has grown on me and he is quite sexy. I have never seen Zuria Vega in another novela, but I absolutely love her and what her story line has done so far and what's to come. It's not only the love story that makes this novela so good. The story lines for the other characters, like Rodrigo's parents and his brother, Patricio. I fell in love with Patricio from the first capitulo. The villians are not over the top like they can be in some novelas. They are tolerable with just the right amount of hate. All I can say is give it a try. I promise you won't regret it :-)

I do not know why you say Gabriel Soto does not nothing for you. He is so unbelievably handsome. He gets my attention, Totally. At times, I think he needs a more serious script because he tends to get too emotional. I know if I were Luciana, I could not be upset with him too long, especially when he smiles. LOL But, I especially love to hate Gala. She is awful and needs to someone to stand up to her. I cannot wait for that to happen....

This is the time We Kenyans in Kenyan are watching this soap opera. It usually airs from 6:00-7:00pm every weekdays.I cant Miss it i usually hurry home from work to get it start just on time.I so Love Luciana,Jana,Rodrigo...My Awesome and know how to act.
