Synopsis

The story of "Pasion y Poder" is about two successful businessmen, Eladio Gómez Luna (Fernando Colunga) and Arturo Montenegro (Jorge Salinas), who have been facing off for many years because of business and for the love of Julia (Susana Gonzalez).

Eladio appears to have it all - success, money, and power. However, he does not have the love of Julia, his wife, who he has always loved. Julia married Eladio a short time after finding out that his fiancé, Arturo Montenegro, had gotten another woman pregnant. Julia believed that she would fall in love with Eladio but he has never known how to win her affection and loves her in a sick manner. A short time later, David (Jose Pablo Minor) was born. Eladio has never gotten along with his son and instead has given his godson Franco (Danilo Carrera) all of his trust and has made him a faithful copy of his hate, ambition, and despotism.

Lichita, full name Alicia Gutierrez Lopez, (Maite Perroni) is sweet, intelligent, and very capable, though everyone considers her an invisible assistent. She is noble, talented, passionate about publicity, a hard worker at the advertising agency Icónika... but she's timid and sometimes very impulsive, which will get her spouting a lot of lies. She's convinced she deserves a raise, but no matter how hard she tries, all she gets to do is serve coffee and make photocopies. But that's all going to change.


Roberto Duarte (Arath de la Torre) is handsome, astute, intelligent, enterprising, a charismatic seducer. A good man, he has a noble heart capable of tenderness [I don't think "seducer" and "noble heart" go together - Ed.] He has the gift of gab and draws people in. He doesn't trust women much. Being so able, he's rapidly successful at Icónika. He has to lie and even rob, but he has a hidden, important reason for acting as he does. [In the preview I saw, he looks way too old for her - Ed.]


Sandra (Chantal Andere), the ad agency director, is made of iron, but those who know her intimately are aware she is a woman who needs love. Her nickname at the agency is "Gorilla" because she is as sweet as Tyrannosaurus Rex.


Luciana (Ingrid Martz) is arrogant, conceited, and sexy. She loves selfies. Appearance is everything with her. Educated in Argentina, she favors everything foreign, she doesn't consider herself to be cut from the same cloth as the pack of dogs in NacoLand. She's beautiful but bad as can be. She is Lichita's sworn arch-enemy.


Augusto de Toledo (Eduardo Santamarina) is thought by all to be the most exemplary husband and father. For him, appearance is everything. His ambition is limitless, but even greater is his Machiavellian malice. If this were a fairy tale, he would be the fearsome dragon! [Aww, that's too bad. I like him. - Ed.]


Magos (Sherlyn) is Alicia's sister. She is sexy and irresponsble, a real "Nini" [??}]. She left school when she was 15 and came home with a surprise - she was pregnant. Motherhood in no way helped her grow up; she is the eternal adolescent, and her daughter sees her more as a sister than a mom.


Ignacio Gutiérrez 'Don Nacho' (Manuel 'Flaco' Ibáñez is Lichita’s father, a taxi driver who loves Lichita to pieces. He blames his bad luck on others.


Elsa López de Gutiérrez (Sylvia Pasquel) is Ignacio's nice wife (Lichita's mom).

"Yo No Creo En Los Hombres/ I Have No Faith In Men" replaces Que Te Perdone Dios on July 13th and that's in the 10PM Eastern time slot.  [FYI: it won 7 premios for acting and directing at the 2015 awards.  So, although it is another in a long and seemingly endless list of refritos Univision chooses to serve up, this could be another diamond in the rough.  Could be...... as a telenovela taken from a Caridad Bravo Adams novel (one of Martai and my favorites!) whose screenplay is written by Aída Guajardo (nominated for best screen adaptation). Some familiar and strong actors are in this one:  Flavio Medina,  Rosa María Bianchi, Azela Robinson, Alejandro Comacho for a few.  Gabriel Soto and Adriana Louvier (Best Actress 2015 Premios) are the two leads in this one.]  
Maria Dolores is a beautiful young woman of small means and greatly idealistic. She is also a contender and has the strength to get ahead when faced with adversity.  She is a seamstress who exists within a sphere in which men surround her. (We, fortunately, can expect at least one or two will be a rotten lowlife.)   With her job, Maria Dolores supports her mother, Esperanza, herself, and her sister, Clara.  Maria Dolores’s boyfriend is Daniel.  His life, however, is not a bed of roses.  Daniel turns out to be rich, but is passing himself off as a poor man in order not to feel ashamed in light of his social class and above all, his mother, Ursula, who’s the matriarch of the Santibáñez family and prejudiced against the poor.  (Grrrrrrr!)  Ursula’s children, Daniel and Maleny, were trained to inveigle and maneuver rich people, the first being designer Ivana Duval, heiress and owner of a large (and no doubt successful) company; the second is Max Bustamonte, an attorney, who follows the law to the letter.  (Gotta love those straight arrows, frustratingly  dense as they usually are.)

Next Monday (June 22) at 3PM/2C Univision will begin airing La Vecina, the latest telenovela from Lucero Suárez (De que te quiero te quiero, Amorcito Corazón and Querida Enemiga.)

It is a remake of the 2003 Colombian telenovela "La costeña y el cachaco." 170 episodes are planned.

It's being billed as a fusion of comedy and melodrama. It stars Juan Diego Covarrubias as Antonio Andrade and Esmeralda Pimentel as Sara Granados. The cast also includes Javier Jattin, Natalia Guerrero, Carlos Bracho, Arutro Carmona, Alejandro Ibarra , Luis Gatica and Alfredo Gatica (Last seen as "Abdul" in DQTQTQ.)

There's a  host recognizable faces from other Lucero Suarez productions- Maria Alicia Delgado, Eduardo Shacklett and Bibelot Mansur  to name a few. Most importantly, Jose Luis Badalt aka "Hotscar" will have a small role.

Sinopsis
After losing her hotel job and breaking up with her boyfriend, Sara decides to take a few days and head for the coastal town of San Gaspar.

At the same time Antonio is being sent by his company CONATROL to San Gaspar to investigate the excessive robbery of gasoline from the area.

Destiny will unite Sara and Antonio, first as neighbors and later when she arrives to work at CONATROL. They connect during a weekend on an unexpected trip. There's a great attraction between the two, despite their very different personalities.

Martín (Iván Sánchez) hurries to Mina Escondida after getting an urgent letter from his brother begging to be rescued from the hell in which he's living. On arrival, Martin despairs upon finding out that Demetrio (Pablo Montero), his brother, has committed suicide. His sorrow is transformed into hatred and a thirst for vengeance against the woman who caused his brother suffering and brought him to death.

Full of resentment, Martín swears before the tomb of his brother that he will get revenge against this ruthless woman, he will cause her to fall in love and he will drag her to the green hell of this jungle in which he will despise her as she despised his brother.

The first clue to the culprit's identity is a medallion his brother always kept with him, engraved with the name "V. Prado Castelo." Martin returns to the capital, knowing that Prado Castelo is the biggest jewelry business in the country. He aims to grow close to the family. He makes the acquaintance of Emiliano (Sergio Sendel), only heir to the fortune, newly arrived in México after years of absence.

Martín meets Verónica (Ana Brenda) and Virginia (Grettell Valdez), Emiliano's cousins who were adopted by the elder Prado Castelo. Martín is struck by Veronica's beauty and her force of character. He is not, however, her only admirer: Emiliano has returned with the intention of marrying her, having loved her since childhood - not realizing the one who is obsessed with him is Virginia.

Little by little Martin falls in love with Verónica but believes the lies Virginia tells about her, including that she had caused Demetrio to fall in love and had then abandoned him….

Disclaimer: Most likely there won't be any recaps for this TN, but I really hated the thought of Caray not doing anything for the first week of a prime-time novela. Personal note: Ernesto Laguardia has stated in an interview that he is happy to be a part of a production that carries a message of family unity and responsible pet adoption/ownership. On the ACT site of Televisa viewers are encouraged to share pictures of their pets. I just think this is cool.

If you have seen the mysterious ads then you know that a new telenovela, Que Te Perdone Dios, is starting January 19th on Univision in the 10pm slot replacing La Malquerida. It's produced by Angelli Nesma Medina (Lo Que La Vida Me Robo) and stars Rebecca Jones, Sergio Goyri, Zuria Vega and Mark Tacher. This joint Televisa-Univision telenovela will premier in the United States first, and then in Mexico in February. Because of this, there aren’t many images or info available. You might ask, what happened to all those other tns that started in Mexico in 2014 that we have heard so much buzz about? When are we going to get to see Yo No Creo En Los Hombres, La Sombra del Pasado, or El Color de la Pasión? We have a new TN starting on August 25th, this coming Monday, that will be replacing Que Pobres Tan Ricos, entitled La Malquerida. If you would like to recap this TN, please email our Blog Mom at caray@mappamundi.com or me at navygurl75@gmail.com.  I am going to give you some background on this TN first and then a brief synopsis with pictures of the cast. Shall we begin?

La Malquerida is based on a play and not the usual remake after remake of a previously done TN. This TN is based on a book of the same name as the TN by the Spanish Author Jacinto Benavente. He was a Nobel Prize Winner for Literature. The book was published in 1913. There were two movies based on this play. The first was an American Silent Film, entitled "Passion Flower" and was released in 1921. It starred Norma Talmadge and Courtenay Foote. The second movie was a Mexican Production, released in 1949, entitled La Malquerida and it starred Dolores del Rio and Pedro Armendariz. The Producer of this TN, Jose Alberto Castro has stated that he based this TN on the book alone and not the movies.  Now on to the synopsis. This will be a barebones synopsis so as to avoid spoilers.

Sofía Ripoll Bandy (Marjorie de Sousa), a tough, beautiful, intelligent and distinguished woman, is director general of the Ripoli Factory, the girlfriend of Patricio Iturbe (Julian Gil) and the older sister of Alexa and Daniela. She is head of the family business.

Salvador Cruz aka Chava (Pedro Fernández), a simple, noble and sympathetic man, a race car driver and mechanic, met Sofia when he lost the chance to compete in an important race. Both felt an immediate attraction, the start of a history during which they will have to overcome obstacles thrown in their path by Patricio - an ambitious man who uses Sofia to rise in the business hierarchy - and Silvana Blanco (Mariana Seoane) - the supposed best friend of Sofia. Patricio and Silvana form an alliance to obstruct Sofia and Salvador.

Alexa Ripoll Bandy (Claudia Álvarez) is an extroverted, capricious girl, doted on by her mother, just back from Spain. A great attraction arises between her and Armando Romero, Salvador's friend, causing jealousy in Irma, Armando's girlfriend and mother of Nando.

Daniela Ripoll Bandy (Jade Fraser) is the youngest of the sisters, a pretty girl who lights up the house. She meets Lucas Cavazos at a shopping mall; he will become the love of her life. He is spontaneous and sympathetic. Lucas undertakes several illegal jobs to help his grandmother.

Fausto Rangel (Alejandro Tommasi), head servant in the mansion, is a man of exquisite taste. He counsels the Ripoli women and dedicates himself body and soul to them, living through the most unusual situations with them.

Greta Bandy de Ripoll (Olivia Bucio), widowed mother of the three daughters, is hiding a secret that will change the lives of her daughter Sofia and also of Francisco "Paco" Fernández (César Évora), shop keeper in the Union colonia and father of Araceli (Ximena Herrera), who struggles insatiably for Salvador's love.

The characters are seeking the road to happiness. Sofia and Salvador fight for their love, beginning a voyage that will carry them to the end of the world.

Ana (Silvia Navarro)

 is in a job she despises, and she has just lost the home she struggled to own… she knows she has to “start over”…

On account of some clerical error at an employment agency, Ana finds herself applying for the job of “nanny” to a wealthy widower, Fernando Lascuraín, with seven difficult children. Somehow, without credentials and/or a cultured background, Ana manages to charm the children and make them show signs of beginning to recover from the loss of their mother.

Meanwhile, Fernando, their father pursues a woman with a suitable pedigree, but it becomes increasingly obvious that he smitten with Ana, and Ana is smitten with him!

Fernando Lascurain (Jorge Salinas)

                                          

appreciates order and discipline.  He is father of seven kids and has been a widower for a year now.  He doesn't drink, smoke, or otherwise enjoy the finer things in life..... As a businessman, he is widely respected, especially since he heads a finance company.  He's totally buried himself in his work, thinking to provide his kids  with the very best in life, but has actually neglected giving them what they need most: his love and his affection.  Ana's arrival will have a great impact on him as it will awaken his passion for life, now gone since the death of his wife.

 Isabela Vázquez de Castro (Mayrín Villanueva)

is the object of Fernando's affections, but his kids don't want her around.  She's a sophisticated executive with a number of Masters' Degrees from numerous universities around the world.  She's extremely beautiful and knows it.  Her gain, everybody else's loss.....  The woman is calculating and manipulative and could care less who she steps on to get what she wants--and she wants Fernando.....along with the status and life of unbounded luxury that being Sra. Lascurain offers.     However, his kids care for Ana more.    

Diego Lascurain (Pablo Montero) is Fernando's brother and polar opposite.  He lacks commitment, has lots of charm and loves to party.

Bruno (René Casados) is the loyal majordomo of the Lascurain manse.

Jennifer (Fabiola Campomanes) is Ana's crass best friend and a waitress at Club Chicago.

 

Yolanda (Carmen Salinas)

is Isabela's mother, a woman who married a wealthy man and who is advising/guiding her daughter to do the same.  

Johnny (Adrián Uribe) is Ana's current, loser boyfriend and her manager.

Ana Leal (Silvia Navarro) is an exotic dancer by night who, as fate would have it, begins working as a nanny in a wealthy family’s mansion during the day.  Fernando Lascurain (Jorge Salinas), the owner of this grand mansion and its even grander family, is a successful businessman and widower left with seven kids to raise. (This guy's been busy!) 

Ana hates the exotic dancer gig but she has just lost possession of the house she's worked so hard to own.  She's determined to begin all over again.   Because of some clerical error during her job search, Ana learns she's actually been sent to apply as a “nanny” for a wealthy widower with seven—count 'em, s.e.v.e.n. …..uhmmmm..... shall we say ….vexingly vivacious..... --children.  Their papi, meanwhile, is determined to replace his deceased wife with a woman of similar status and “breeding” (as in cattle, horses, and she-dogs).

Ana, although not from the righteously rarified right side of the tracks, manages to pull a Mary Poppins on the kids to get them over the trauma of losing their mama.  Along the way, she and Fernando recognize their romantic attraction towards each other.

Also starring is Pablo Montero as Fernando’s brother and Mayrín Villanueva as a first-time villana.   Other headliners are Carmen Salinas, René Casados, Adrián Uribe, Fabiola Campomanes, and Lisardo.

Natalia and Diego meet during a festival of Tuxpan Veracruz fishermen, where Natalia will be crowned queen.  Love springs forth from the first instant in which they see each other.  Both are completely ignorant about who each is, which is no obstacle when beginning their romance.

For this reason Natalia doesn’t learn that Diego has a twin brother, Rodrigo, who has competed all his life with him.  He, when learning about his brother’s new romance, has no qualms about impersonating him. And, the night of Natalia’s coronation he shows up as his brother, Diego.
