Una Familia Con Suerte #241-242 Tue 5/8/12

Sorry folks, we don't have a recap from Monday night.  We're playing a little catch-up, so anyone who remembers much is invited to fill us in!

Today's big opening event (well, I guess it could be review from yesterday) is Frida proposing to her Dartañan! She offers him  one of those metallic screwing pipe fasteners as a ring, and he accepts (with minor trepidation). The boss of the car shop gives him a little talking-to about his intentions with the girl (as in, don't marry her for revenge, you little punk!).

Here's where I'm totally stumped: Vins is conspiring with a child in a fancy suit, with his face obscured by an animated smiley face and his voice artificially deepened. Vins has some sort of plot hatching with this "Señor Don David," who demands a great deal of money be deposited into his account in the Caiman Islands. Was there more on this yesterday?

Lupita is now OK with Tomás' true vocation, wishing him luck as he heads out on a dangerous operation.

More to come tomorrow morning!

Fred hasn't gotten the news about Ana and Adrian's engagement, and he accepts Adrian's thanks and a big hug!

Chacho is hanging out with Pancho at Avon. I have to wonder, how come Chacho hasn't been given a cushy job yet? Anyway, Chacho is very impressed at the sight of Pancho using legalese/"fufurufos" to ream out somebody over the phone. He has been to a fertility clinic with Sandra (are they *already* trying to have a baby?).

Pina and Pancho are scheming to set up a charitable foundation "for the children..." for kids of the barrio, to be called PiPa or somesuch. She remarks on the irony of finally finding happiness with Pancho's help. Vins storms in, cursing Sebastian...

Candi is in tears. It seems Vins dumped her. Chela tries to console her, but takes an unusual approach, in more of a "these things happen" tack, not mentioning the possibility that Vins is just a jackwagon.

Poor Frida is aware that Pepe may just be marrying her to make Monica miserable, but she professes it all worthwhile for a chance to show him how much she cares.

Monica opens up the whinery to her Dad. She wonders if there's something wrong with her look, and he chuckles.  But yes. I think the "French" wig is awful on her. Soon she returns with short blonde hair, but the offensive thing is that she says "I fixed myself." Ugh. Chela swears her to secrecy and reveals that she has planned the wedding (without anyone's knowledge, not even Enzo) for a few days in the future. Soon, though, Enzo tickles the secret out of his daughter.

Meanwhile, Pina finds out from Arnold about Barb. In her words, "O. MY. GOSH." He recounts all the many places Barbs has taken him, and she delightedly laughs in his face. Sebastian strolls in, and Arnie makes a hilarious show of drooling over him.

My delight over Doña Rebe is only increased when I see her date, a handsome young man with a motorcycle. She hops in the sidecar and off they go! Unfortunately, it doesn't go that well.

Pancho has called a family Junta, for a couple reasons. His heart is "in hilo" over Candi's sadness, but first and foremost he wants pictures of the whole family and he has a surprise for the whole family: the twins are back from the hospital. Pancho makes them all do some kind of forced-march conga line upstairs to see the babies, and they get some great photos!

Sebastian finds out that Vins hurt Pina (back when the latter found out about Sebastian and Pina, he grabbed her arms pretty hard). Vins shows up to harangue them, and the boys get to fighting! Vins seems to gain the upper hand swiftly, but Pina intervenes and calls security to throw the rat out (they're in the Avon parking deck).

At the Junta, Candi announces the pending divorce, and Ana announces her engagement. No one is happy for Ana. They all think she made the wrong choice.

Oh yeah... Kari is pregnant from her little romp with Fred back in the Yucatán.

Sebastian gives Fred some advice: it's time to step up and throw all the meat on the grill!

And now for some sad news: Fernanda is pretty sick again, and Pancho comes for a chat. She gets a flashback to that night on the bridge. She says she's "dying to see the kids," and apologizes for a poor choice of words.

Chacho gets the results - the problem is him. He's TERRIFIED of the urologist!

Pina gets a showdown with Viv, Sebastian's Ex. I've always thought she looked like a vampire. Pina has her thrown out.

Fred, aiming to throw some meat on the figurative grill, gets all combed up and puts on an ugly shirt to go ask Ana not to marry Adrian. End scene.

And some help here: Who's the random bad singer who makes the crooning cameo in this episode?

Hola, Ezra. I didn't quite get the hacker with the animation mask and weird voice, either. Was he supposed to be such a technogenius that he was giving himself a hologram mask? Because Vice was talking like that existed in the show and was not just a weird effect added for our benefit.

Frankly, I think the writers were on a bender and the director was high as a kite when this episode was filmed. It was BIZARRE.

I actually liked Frida's proposal. Sweet, direct, not theatrical...that's what I like. Only problem is, he's in love with someone else.

Rebe and the babies sure recovered fast. I still hate that they named the little girl after her sisters instead of giving her a name of her own or naming her after Fernanda.

Enzo must be so glad he hired Moni as his assistant and took her to Monterrey. All she does is blather about her love life and makeovers and keep him from getting any work done. I loved when she asked about a salon and he was all, "Sure, I have this great place where I get my manicures and false eyelashes." At least the red clown wig is gone.

Ezra- Madelaine posted a bullet points recap for Monday late last night, so no worries.

Julia- I laughed at that comment from Enzzo too, and he even waved his nails around. LOL! Moni may not be doing much work there, but she is helping Enzzo tap into his human side at work and not be such an ogre. He even smiles and laughs with her there.

I have no idea what the writers were smoking when they gave the hacker an animated face that supposedly people can see. It must have been some strong stuff. But bravo to Sergio Sendel for being able to go with the flow and react so convincingly, in typical silly Vince fashion, to Don David's animated face.

Of course Lupe, the most sensible character in this show, would so quickly recover from her first demonstration of unreasonableness. The logic Rebe used was that Lupe is worried about Tom anyway, even though they are broken up. She might as well be worried about him, AND be with him. That seemed to do the trick.

Hola amigos, I am nearly back to normal and that means enjoying much better eye sight with the second new lens implant and cataracts are history. Modern medicine's real bionic miracle! Thanks again to Madelaine for getting us a header, I was too woozy from the anesthesia but I did manage to watch the episode. And now last night's silliness brought to us by Ezra, thanks Ezra.

I like Pina's approach to everything now. She was a bit jealous of Sebastian not telling her about Vivian's appearance, but got over it quickly and is being straight with him and later with Vivian. Strange that both this show and Abismo have women coming back in after trashing a loved one, a husband in this case with her betrayal of Sebe with his supposed best friend. i am glad the writers let Sebe pound on Damon. He is so controlled about all his tragic past most of the time. This will let him release some of his mourning and anger so he can move into a new phase with Pina. They both deserve to have a happier ending.

The little hacker-genius was funny. I guess they are saying you have to be 12 or less to really be an effective computer geek/hacker these days. Sendel was at his best with the boy. I hate how awful he is being to Candi and all his revenge plans.

Frida was less obnoxious than usual. I personally have not liked her second table obsession to get Pepe as leftovers at any cost but she played it pretty well. My big disappointment is with Pepe falling into being adored so easily. i am glad the car shop owner was straight with him that he was doing a bad thing to let Frida fall all over him. She does need to exit this with dignity but we all know that Moni is coming back! Wigless, thankfully.

Thanks Ezra for your wonderful recap. I loved how the twins are back home now. I liked the little march thing, it was too funny, but didn't like they did it while holding one of the babies.

Vice is dead to me. I used to like his funny quirks, but now not so much. I didn't like the way he manhandled Pina. Pina put up with so much of his guff over the years. She should enjoy some happiness.

Frida is just Frida I guess. She is much like Karina, really but Pepe is just needy. Why does he feel the need to marry and to someone he doesn't love. I don't get it.

Loved Moni's new look, but don't like the fact she "fixed" herself. I like how she isn't dating anyone and is getting herself together.

Glad that Adrian's little girl is ok. It looked really bad when she fell.

I cheered for Freddy when he went to Ana and told her not to get married, yay. Finally this is the Freddy of the cherry picker with the poetry. I really hope Ana listens to him.

Thanks, Ezra! I liked "Monica opens up the whinery." She's quite the vintner, isn't she?

I don't know who the crooner is. I was hoping someone would identify him!

So, Pepe is also settling, just like Ana. Is there really that much pressure to get married so young? Though frankly I think Pepe's long-term prospects are better with Frida than Ana's are with Adrian. I've seen Adrian's temper and I don't like it.

I'm more convinced than ever that crazy Vivian is getting some kind of leftover storyline crumbs from Violeta. And possibly her earrings.

Thanks for the rest of the recap Ezra. Vince has gotten so insuferable. I would have never guessed that he could get worse, but he has. By the way, Candi dumped him, not the other way around. But Vince is so self absorbed right now that it didn't even phase him.

Adrian and Ana must have been amazed that the little girl could leave the hospital the next day after belly flopping off the balcony, when the two of them were in the hospital for like ten months after a little slo-mo motorcycle crash in a previous life.

I'm glad the babies are home (although I still think their nursery is hideous). I was beginning to wonder why Pancho and Rebe never seemed to feel the need to visit them in the hospital.

Congratulations on your new bionic vision, Cheryl! It must be a relief to have it all done.

I have vocabulary today! This is from the last week or so.

el mero mero/la mera mera - the head honcho, top dog

por un pelo de rana calva - just barely, by a hair

con la soga al cuello - in dire straits

postiza - false

piripi - merry, tipsy

tajante - unequivocal, categorical

buliar - to bully

aplanadora - steamroller

tifón - typhoon

monzón - monsoon

mollerita - pretty little head

hacer tuto - to go bye-bye

mozalbete - lad

echar toda la carne al asador - to go all in, give it everything you've got

de tin marín de do pingüe, cúcara mácara títere fue - a nonsense chant for counting off or choosing, like "eeny meeny miney mo."

Wow, I think my students would LOVE that eeny-meeny rhyme! Too bad they've all gone home.

I'm thrilled to hear Moni has a new luke. Can't wait to catch up.

Haven't Chucho and Sandra only been trying for pregnancy for a month or two so far, at the most? Why are they even seeing fertility specialists? Because they live in telenovelaland, where a young lady can practically get pregnant just from looking at a man? I don't know why he's so afraid of the urologist, either. That guy doesn't even make him take off his pants!

Why is Chela keeping the wedding plans a secret from Enzo? This makes no sense. I'm curious what she's going to make him wear (assuming he manages to arrive). I'm guessing white traje de charro.

Julia- I'm guessing that's what she'll have him wear too (she kept insisting on the phone that things be white!). He will look darn fine in it too, I have no doubt. I think it started out with her just not wanting to burden him with the wedding planning while he was so swamped by his new job. But then she seemed to get excited about the cool things she was coming up with and decided to make it a surprise for him. Surprise weddings for galans, and girls proposing to galans with car parts. It's the mad, mad world of UFCS!

I'm liking the idea of Enzo in the traje de charro! Hopefully that prediction comes true... Enzo and Chela continue to be my favorite couple!
In regards to Moni, I don't think she meant that she "fixed herself"...i can't remember exactly what she said but i think it was "me arregle'", which just means that she got dressed up/got her hair done/gussied up...nothing offensive in my mind. I think she was just fishing for a compliment from Dad; like "i got all made up...don't i look nice??" I thought it was cute.

Ezra, thanks for the round-up of everything. Missed it last night.

Hate to see Pepe set up Frida for hurt, cause my guess is he'll wind up changing his mind about marrying her. Hope it's not at the altar.

Julia, thanks for more vocab.

I think the only way this can turn out well for Frida is if she's the one who calls off the engagement. But I can't imagine what it would take to bring her to that realization.

Ezra, thanks for terrific recap. My favorite line, "Monica opens up the whinery." Very funny!

Also, a belated thanks to Julia, Julie and Madelaine for your Thurs-Mon recaps.

Julia, your vocabulary list is amazing. Well done amiga.
