Una Familia Con Suerte #264 Wed 5/23/12 FINALE!!!!!

I took over from Ez as the last hour rolled around. I gotta say, I really liked this telenovela until they started cramming ten hours a week down our throats. I think it was disrespectful to the show and to the viewers. Anyway here goes!

Pina and Sebas, post-wedding, feeding each other. Is it cake? Ez thinks it's ravioli. Not very effective food porn, not appetizing in slow motion. Ez thinks Pina dropped her spit-covered straberry back on her plate.

Phew, it's the next day, Tomas and Lupita are back in the chapel. Lupe is going to confess something... Since Tomas hasn't had sex with her he just says he hopes she isn't pregnant - BUT HE'LL SUPPORT HER NO MATTER WHAT. Hah, hah, she just wants to confess looovvvve. FF>

It's the fifth or sixth night of the full moon, but of course as we know there is always a full moon in Mexico. Usually I skip all the scenes with the babies but they're getting baptised so I watch. Pancho tells a joke about baptism but I was talking so I missed it. Was it funny?

Who is that kissing Adoracion at the baptism? Pascualito? He says he'll marry Adoracion and make her happy. The mama approves.

Pepe makes an adorable speech about llloooove to his preggers Sirena.

Ezra will attest that I predicted this next scene last night. Vince and his newly-adopted dog and incredibly bushy beard walk along the highway. He remembers all the love that's been offered to him over the years and cries. Pancho leaves the baptism to go fetch Don Octavio. I predicted that Vince would end up on the very same bridge Dona Fer was going to jump off at the beginning of this novela. I predicted this yesterday!!! There he is! Reviewing mentally all his disgraces. And there's Pancho, out of his lurid blue advertising-mobile, staring up at Vince on the railing! Commercial!

Pancho tries to talk him down. Even though Vince tried to kill him, he doesn't hate him. Pancho says it's alcohol that's been the problem. Vince says it's alcohol that takes away the pain of a mediocre life. "I lost my dignity and my only son. I don't want to start again. I'm tired of living."

Pancho's phone rings, it's Rebeca, but he doesn't answer. Now here comes the priest and Pancho isnt here! And here comes Candy in the nun-mobile with all her new sisters.

Back to the bridge. "Let's talk as we've never talked, like cousins. I know you have goodness in your heart. And Freddy needs you." "He said I don't deserve his love. It's true.  I tried to destroy everyone. I want you to know I've always envied you. You had no advantages but you were always in a good humor, intelligent, you have an incredible family. I can't enjoy life the way you do. I've lost too much." "Iracheta, I lost my wife when Temo was born, my parents died, Dona Fer died, but no matter, we need to go forward. Don't you want to see your grandchildren running all over the place? You can be near your son." "I want to die! But before I die I want to ask your pardon." Vince drops. Commercial.

Vince, what a aguafiesta! First he wrecks Pina's wedding, then he wrecks this boring baptism. What a diva, what a drama queen.

Back to the baptism. Pancho and Don Octavio show up at the last minute, the impatient priest says we can begin, Pancho says no we can't. "Can we have one more godfather?" And here's Vince? All cleaned up and showered and in a brand new suit after he just fell off the bridge? And sober? That was very very quick!

Boring baptism accompanied by Candy and her nun friends singing a flaccid pop song. Candy and the new improved Vince make goony eyes at each other.

It turns out that, just like with Fer, as Vince plumged to his death Pancho grabbed his hand at the last minute. But dangling there, Vince still wasn't convinced. "Cousin! Freddy doesn't deserve the sadness he'll feel. Do it for Pollis!" Finally Vince agrees not to die and lets himself be pulled up. The two of them sit exhausted on the bridge. Pancho invited him to the baptism but after a shower: "You smell bad, like sulphur and an apache calzone." ??

Candy is about to get into the nunmobile to go back to the convent but Vince runs after her. Her friend says "don't flee happiness" and the van leaves without her. Vince says: "Your brother saved my life. They both pardoned me. You look like a virgin. Do you forgive me too?" Yes she does. He asks if they could try again. She takes off her wimple. They kiss. "Let's go, anywhere you want!" Candy, noooooooo!!!

As they hug he feels a prick - it's one of Violeta's poison rings. But he doesn't die. Then Octavio says he wants to live with them all despite his Alzheimer's. Huge bear hug.

Back home, Chela is crying. Enzo asks why. Personally I think she's overstimulated and needs a nap. She says they're tears of happiness. Then the cast gets on stage before a crowd of regular Mexicans and we hear the theme song one last time. FF> and out!

Thank you so much Melinama for this great great finale recap. Pina was beautiful at the wedding. I liked the singer Diego. He was really good. I liked the dedication he made to the couple.

I really thought Vins was a goner. When he jumped it looked like he really jumped. I liked the scene on the bridge. I am glad Pancho talked him into living and forgave him. I am glad Vins finally asked for forgiveness.

I liked Ado's new "Luke". The shirt she wore before was all of Pina's favorite sayings lol. It was a surprise she is getting married.

Loved Tomas' proposal to Lupita. They were so sweet, it's a shame we didn't get to see their wedding.

Loved the twins talking about their parents, that was too cute.

Liked Vins and Candy, I really thought he was stabbed with the poison, but I'm glad he wasn't. I liked when Candy took her whimple off and she had braids, that was a new "Luke" for her.

I liked the fact Pancho had Vins as a godfather for the babies. It was really sweet of him, and NENENENe forgave him too.

I liked the group hug with Doc Oc it was very sweet and he seems to be more on an even keel now.

Chela must have caught what Rebe had with the emotions of pregnancy. I like how Enzzo talked to her and danced with her, too cute. I never thought Enzzo could be so randy lol. What a *hawt* guy. lol.

I will really miss this TN it was a lot of fun even though it was two hours every night it flowed just great the way they showed it.
Thanks to all the great recappers for this TN and all the hours you logged doing recaps. Thank you so much Cheryl, JP Cruzer, Melinama, Ezra, Julia and Julie. You guys rock!

Thanks for driving us home, Melinama. It was a pretty satisfying ending with most loose ends tied up neatly.

I thought Pina and Seba were feeding each other breaded shrimp but that is possibly more boring than raviolis as Ezra suggested. Sebastian had possibly the greatest genuine smile, so much better than the bastardo David he played over on No Podia where they had to kill him already he was so wicked.

It was fun to be one this team. I agree that it was torture an abuse of loyal fans to sustain the two hour a night sprint for so many weeks. Funny, though I actually got used to doing it but couldn't spend as much time going back and correcting things so it was pretty much stream of consciousness recapping. Luckily the shear volume of slang made it a crap shoot at best anyway to translate. Thanks for the loyal fans and the recappers that kept us going. These little groups are always the warmest.

Thanks for the recap Melinama. You and Ezra were holding down the fort on this one for a long time and we all thank you. It is fitting you ended this TN for us.

Loved Pina's wedding. Yes Cheryl Seb is a much better character than poor now dead David.

Thanks Julia, Julie, Cheryl, and our guest recappers for all your wonderful 'caps.

Gracias CHF,

For all of your work on this show, especially since the advent of double episodes. And thank you for Caray Caray, this wonderful community.

Thanks too, to Ezra, Julia, Julie and Cheryl for delivering the goods night after night, month after month.

I so appreciate your dedication and hard work.

EJ

I'm a bit surprised that one of the things that wasn't really discussed in these recaps is the role that music and songs played in this show. The songs added a lot to the show and to the definition of the characters.
For instance, someone mentioned that during the Ana and Freddy wedding, they played the same old song sung by Ana. Well, that song actually had a lot of significance in that the lyrics described Ana's initial and growing feelings not only for Freddy but for herself as well. "Corazon Inalcansable" means "Unreachable Heart." Well, that was finally a reachable heart.
Music also played a serious role during Vicente's fall and time as a bum at the park. That was a classic song sung by Jose Jose. Very sad and poignant song.
Music even brought some commedy tonight. Did you guys hear what was playing when Pancho was talking to "La Burra?" That's right...It was Arath De La Torre in the background singing a song from the soundtrack.
We could talk more about the various songs and music, but I think you guys get the drift, right?

Melinama, thank you for starting us off with the original synopsis and then coming full circle to do the finale. Kudos to you and all the other regular and guest recappers for sticking it out through all Uni's annoying changes. Also, thanks to Julia for her amazing vocabulary list. It has been a great tool and I look forward to using it for a long time.

What about Vice's hobo dog? Did they just leave the poor thing on the bridge?

JP cruzer, good point about the music and thanks for sharing some of the details. I did not notice that Arath De La Torre was singing in the background. I remember during Ana and Freddy's wedding I thought that the lyrics of the band, Los Ironicos del Norte, were perfect for the situation. I can't remember exactly what they were, but I recall the overriding theme was "Money can't buy happiness." It was a lesson that all the "bad guys" had to learn before they could become "good".

Hi guys. I stumbled upon this site because I was confused at the scene where Vins and Candy are pricked by Violeta's ring and just wanted to make sure they didnt die. Which they didnt. Kool tn community. I will be coming back here after I find my next fave novela. Sucks this one ended already, im gonna miss it!

#TeamVinsCandy

JPCruzer- I *loved* the music in this one and it makes me sad that I can't seem to find any of it on iTunes. :-(

Thanks so much Melinama for pulling together this great team of recappers and taking on extra duty when first there weren't enough recappers, and then when we got these two hour marathons.

JP- I also enjoyed the music in this and appreciated that the producers chose songs for everyone that were appropriate for them. I did notice that haunting song that was used for Vince during his spiral to rock bottom.

I enjoyed that things came full circle and Pancho saved his cousin Vince from the birdge in the last episode just like he saved his mom Fernanda in the first.

In real life, I wouldn't be happy with a friend like Candy going back to someone who had been so awful so quickly, but I do believe that Vince has been changed by this experience. The writers seemed to want to tease us till the very end with the possibility of Vince dying for his sins with the (thankfully) de-venomed ring.

Ado looked great in the last few scenes, and very happy with the affectionate galan she found.

Lupe and Tomas teasing about her being pregnant was funny. But she did tell him she is ready to be his, in *every* sense, so Tomas looked super happy. We'll just have to use our imaginations to picture what the love life of a former tomcat and a pure as the driven snow virgin looks like. I bet they'll have just as much fun as Chela and Enzzo.

Speaking of the two of them, when Pancho was talking to El Burro about all the members of the family, he said how happy Chela and Enzzo are with their baby and the one on the way, and the MANY more that are surely to be on the way, with the way those two are going at it. LOL! I was thinking the same thing. Chela is always going to be pregnant.

The baptism joke was something like this: A drunk guy comes across the priest and his followers by a river, doing baptisms. The priest asks the drunk guy if he wants to find Jesus. The drunk guy agrees. The priest submerges him, brings him up and asks, "Did you find Jesus?" The drunk guy says no. The priest submerges him again and asks, "Did you find Jesus?" The drunk guy says no. The priest submerges him again, for a really long time, and asks again. The drunk guy (breathlessly) says, "No. Are you sure you lost him down there?" LOL! I found it pretty funny.

I wish I'd remembered to thank my team members - who have pulled through this ghastly trial of two-hour recaps with such grace - thanks to all of you!

JP Cruzer (Jim), you knew stuff that none of us know and noticed things we didn't notice. I hope you'll consider being a recapper for another show soon. I'll miss your unique perspective!

Thank you, Melinama! And thanks to the rest of the recappers and commenters, as well. It wouldn't have been nearly so much fun without you.

I'm with you..."Candy, NOOOOO!!!!" Even if Vice gives up the revenge plan and the drinking (which would take serious effort), I just don't believe he would change that much. He is too fundamentally selfish.

I liked most of the music. I especially liked that melancholy romantic guitar piece they often used. I just don't like the "Pancho Lopez" song, and they played that one WAY too much.

Enzo swinging on the vine was one of the highlights of this entire series. I think I probably scared the neighbors by laughing so loudly. I had to rewind that scene five or six times. Chela will never be bored with Enzo around and feeling frisky.

I can't believe Lunivision is putting a new show on for two hours every night. Well, I guess that makes it easy for me to decide not to watch. I can't imagine that will be good for ratings. I only stuck with UFCS because I was already hooked on it.

I'm disappointed in Candi, too. I really LIKED her as a nun. But I predict she'll change her mind...around next Tuesday.

I'm so sad this novela ended!!! What I liked about this novela is that none of the characters were truly evil. Yes some of them did bad things but they had goodness in their hearts. And I loved the soundtrack to the novela. Thanks to all the recappers who really helped me keep up with the novela when I couldnt watch it. This novela really helped bring my family together every night. My daughter is a 3rd generation Mexican-American so she doesnt speak any spanish but she would watch it with us and slowly she has started learning a little bit of spanish and asking a lot of questions about our culture. She even asked us to sing las mananitas on her birthday next month. Im soooo sad it ended!

Excellent synopsis of the grand finale Melinama. I thought Pancho was NEVER going to talk Vince off that bridge...Lordy, it took a long time.

Add me to the list of those who loved the poignant song played during Vince's downfall. JP...you said it was by José José...but do you know the title? They DO have some of his songs on iTunes.

Melinama..loved your "nunmobile" and "personally I think she's [Chela] overstimulated and needs a nap." They did hammer home the theme of FAMILY in this one, and how one can only be happy if one is in "pareja" and working out all one's differences to keep the family united.

A fine message, but it sure leaves out a lot of people. What about them?

Well kudos, and oceans of thanks to all your recappers, and to Julia's unstinting work on difficult slang vocabulary. You all outdid yourselves. Gracias and then some.

Melinama, thanks for taking us down the very eventful home stretch!

I was really happy with the way they wound this telenovela down. Some TNs wrap up everything in one or two nights. This one took a lot more time and we didn't have to see a dozen weddings in one night.

I don't know what apache calzone is. Vice didn't seem to either, so it must have been one of Pancho's mangled puns!

I thought Vice's jump was a cheat, just like Pina's accident. First it looks like they're goners, and then in the next scene they're all in one piece and it's explained in a flashback. C'mon!!

I thought it was actually Candy who got stuck by the ring in Vice's pocket. Kicking the habit, then kicking the bucket? So sad!! The poison didn't kick in right away when Violeta poisoned herself, so I assumed that either Vice or Candy if not both died after that scene. They never said one way or another, did they? Did we ever see them again after that?

Well, if they DO survive, I hope Vice gets treatment for more than just his drinking, because that's not his only problem. There's also the sex addiction and the fact that he only ever wants what he can't have. Last week, Pina was the love of his life? But now it's Candy? If he's still alive, he's got a lot of issues to work out.

JP, thanks for identifying the artist on that music that was playing in all of Vice's scenes. If you hadn't said, I was going to ask anyway.

I assumed that the ring was empty when it poked Candy and/or Vice. How did it come to be in Vice's pocket, do we know? If there was only the one ring, and Viletta used it on herself and then died, no one would have refilled it.

Thank you so much Cheryl, JP Cruzer, Melinama, Ezra, Julia and Julie for your dedication to this TN! It made it so much more fun.

I felt the last show was anti-climatic but its over and we can move on to the next one.

The one continuing theme I really liked about this show was how much open and genuine affection the Lopez' had for each other. All the other TN's I've watched had such hateful families.

Again muchas gracias a todas!

The song for Vins was "El Triste" by Jose Jose.

Lyrics:

he podido ayudarme a viviiir,
he podido ayudarme a viviiir, oooooooooohhhh

Hoy quiero saborear mi dolor,
no pido compasion ni piedad
la historia de este amor se escribio,
para la eternidad.....

Que triste, todos dicen que soy,
que siempre estoy hablando de ti
no saben que pensando en tu amor,en tu amor
he podido ayudarme a viviiir,
he podido ayudarme a viviiir,
he podido ayudarme a viviiir......

Melinama, thanks for a wonderful recap to pull the curtain on this TN. Loved it.

Bravo to all the recappers - Melinama, Ezra, Julia, Julie, Cheryl, JP. I have had a blast reading your recaps. How you all managed to churn out all the double-headers I will never know, but I’m so glad you didn’t jump ship. Kudos to Madelaine and Vivi for the sub stints. I also enjoyed all the comments. Even at times when the show wasn't too funny, you all kept me laughing with your wit and ideas. Julia, thanks for the awesome vocabulary.

I'm satisfied with how everybody turned out. I was kind of moved by Chela's crying because she never imagined that she would form a family all her own and be so happy without Pancho. Plus, once Pina got her hunk, I was pretty sure I’d be happy with everybody else’s outcome.

Vince has changed but agree Candy should stipulate he get therapy for drinking and cheating in order to try it with him again. She’s taking a chance but she loves him so what else can she do.

JP, thanks for the info about the Jose Jose song during Vince’s fall as a bum. I didn’t like the song at first because I knew it was trying to suck me into feeling sorry for his poor, pitiful self after all the crap he’s done, but the song grew on me anyway.

The ring Violeta killed herself with couldn't have ended up in Vice's pocket. The police would have either tossed it or given it to her next of kin, Moni. But Moni couldn't have given it to Vice, since he was already shuffling around homeless at that point.

However, Violeta could have had more than one ring. She could have loaded up another ring with poison and left it in his pocket on purpose, as a sort of time bomb in case she didn't have a chance to nail him (so to speak) while he was being cautious with her in a face-to-face confrontation.

Yes that's crazy, but look who we're talking about.

So, much as I would like to assume that both Vice and Candy are alive, I figure at least Candy and possibly Vicente got stuck. (I didn't see much of a future for them anyway.) At least we were spared the agony of having to watch them die.

Er, not homeless exactly, but aimless for sure.

Thanks for the thoughts on the ring. It had me puzzled. Maybe Violenta gave Vins and extra one. Whole thing is nuts.

The ending with the ring freaked me out! It seemed to imply that Candy will now die? As if she hasn't had enough suffering. Horrible ending to that storyline.

In place of a Cristina special, here's a short clip of the cast appearing on Hoy when the final aired in Mex: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xow8y2_gran-final-de-una-familia-con-suerte_shortfilms

Nice to see them all together. And of course Hoy host Raul Araiza (Beto from Gancho) is the real life son of Rebe Sr. (Norma Herrera).

Vivi, thanks for the clip!

Hanging head in shame... I was so excited to talk about the finale and the ring and stuff that I forgot to say what was really important:

THANK YOU THANK YOU to all the regular and fill-in recappers who kept this exhausting ball rolling, and extra thanks to Julia for keeping up her great vocab lists even after she started recapping the show. This TN was the greatest vocab challenge I've ever encountered.

And special thanks to the commenters who kept us company and gave us support and made the whole thing a lot more fun by sharing. That's what really makes this blog special!

I meant to post earlier--thanks so much to the recappers for La Familia. My watching was sketchy and scattered, as was my blog reading. Just enough to keep up with the major events, but the recaps were very helpful.

I love Sergio Sendel and really enjoyed seeing him use his antagonist talents in a comic role. I was so happy to see Pancho work with him (and work with him) at the end to bring him back to the family. Pancho was nutty, but had a genuine loving heart.

Thanks for making the sacrifice for these two-hour episodes.
