Abismo de pasión #68 6/15/12: Anyone Would Mistake the Pillsbury Dough Boy for an Adonis, Right? And Amazing Delusions!
Alternative Titles My Lips are Blue
Labels: abismo
I can't believe you got rid of your cable. Hopefully you can find all the episodes online.
Here are some fill-in for some of the conversations:
-Paloma asks Ramona what's been bugging her. Since gran won't tell her, and just keeps warning her that she'll get hurt by Gael, she decides to end the conversation and go to bed before granny ruins her good mood.
-Tonia and Brau are very happy that Vince is not working for Gabino anymore and especially that he's gone back to school as part of his deal with Dam. They are both happy and feeling fine with the world and Tonia mentions that they have been so preoccupied with stuff that they haven't gotten lovey dovey in a LONG time. She wants to get frisky and leans in for a kiss when Brau gives her the chaste kiss on the head and leaves. Ha!
-Padre is pleased that Gael and Paloma are dating, but says the same thing that Ramona says to him. He shouldn't be dating Pal just to get over Elisa; he'll just end up hurting Paloma. (Ramona actually told him that her granddaughter is nobody's "second plate")
-When he was proposing to Dolores, Horacio pointed out that neither of them are 15 anymore, hence they need to decide things quickly. They are still young enough to have some kids, so they need to get to it.
-Lolita also metions in her conversation to Elisa that she wants her own kids, so although she doesn't love Horacio like she has loved (Brau) before, she doesn't want to lose this opportunity. The question is, does she want Horacio to be the padre of her hijos?
-Dolores tells Elisa to stop packing because she's sure her dad and tia made up since they slept in the same bed the night before. Sure enough he's telling Lucio the same thing. But he didn't say that Elisa and Lolita don't want to live with him, just that they don't need to anymore.
-Augie and Lucio then went to Merida (they were talking in front of the Merida police station), for Augie's judgement. They dropped the charges and he's free, mainly because of Padre Lupe's testimony that it was an accident and the two of them were struggling with the gun when it went off. Augie is grateful to Lupe, and Lucio points out he also needs to be grateful to Elisa, who put her lands up to get him free. Augie agrees and says he will find a way to pay the crazy high interest loan so that Elisa won't lose her lands.
When Horacio proposed to Lolita, I was yelling to my TV, "Run Lolita, run!"
Someone please hook Elisa up to IV fluids and electrolytes before that girl cries herself into grave dehydration.
"After telling her story for 20 minutes, she finally realizes that Delores in not paying a lick of attention to her." Yes, and thank heavens for the FFWD--> button on my remote!
I found it interesting that Braulio kissed Tonia on the forehead, and then she looked "longingly" after him when he left. Has anyone else wondered why those two have no kids of their own? Just sayin' … Maybe he has been wearing PJs and black socks to bed, too.
"But he’s wearing pajamas and black socks. I got hot just looking at him. " LOL!
"There’s a difference between Girard Butler and Danny Devito." Amen, sister!!! (LOL)
When Lolita pointed out to Elisa that Dam becoming a "pica flor" was in huge part her fault, and she spoke about how men sometimes react to disappointed and betrayal- she used the example of Augie marrying Carmeany right after Stefi's supposed betrayal, but I think she was also thinking of Brau, who must have surely married Tonia very soon after Lolita kicked him to the curb (and had sex with Tonia soon enough after he was dumped to think Vince was his).
The producers of this TN really should have either recast the Toad as someone who is gorgeous or gave him a personality where it would be understandable why he is a great babe magnet than Dam, Gael, Gabino or Paolo. It's beyond anything my beanie can take.
Though Paloma's sitution is not good (begging a guy to go out with you), in this episode I decided to enjoy her unbridled enthusiasm or as our recapper said, "climbing all over Gael." Now that he decided to date her, she takes EVERY opportunity to kiss him. And in a world gone mad (amazing delusions), this makes perfect sense to me. If I had managed to convince the man of my dreams to date me, I'd have her excitement as well.
I hope Lolita says no. I don't want to endure her finding out her husband is a murderer and arsonist.
My favorite line,
"...he’s wearing pajamas and black socks. I got hot just looking at him."
I know that you are serious. I was very proud of our guy last night but judging from the avances, he looks to face an impossible character test by the banks of the cenote on Mon.
There seemed to be a lack of continuity after Augusto and Lucio had wrapped up his case in Merida. Augie was whining because they wouldn't return his shotgun ("I'd keep it locked up."), but he's already used it again to threaten Damien. I think that it's unlikely that he has a spare.
Carlos
I'm with you Karen: the casting of Asshat just does not work for me in making him this babe magnet. (And black socks to bed--spare me) And by the looks of the previews-gees, Kenia has it bad for him. Why, why, why????
Maybe if Tonia lowered the "I hate Delores" meter a few pegs, after 15 years she would get more than a peck on the forehead from hubby. As a rebound couple, does this bode poorly for Gael and Pal too? I still think something is going to go wrong - Ramona is just too good.
Love Paolo bursting Flo's bubble. These characters that like to throw their happiness at you when you're miserable can be more than annoying.
Is Gabino on vacation?-- I'm actually missing the guy ( versus toooo much Assgusto.)
Damian learned about Augusto/Kenia, Gael/Paloma & Alfie's plot.
Augusto learned when you can't love the one you want, love the one you're stuck with.
We also learned Elisa is a self centered dummy who actually expected Damian to pine away for her after she performed a kiss show with his best friend in Damian's face, claimed Gael was better for her than him and that she no longer wanted to marry Dam. And she was actually surprised (SURPRISED I TELL YA!)!
Flo learned she will always be sloppy seconds for Dam even if she does marry him.
Augusto is like a toad. He knows he's a toad. Why would beautiful Estefania want him? That's the root of his insecurity and rage: Estefania could've had any man she wanted but she chose HIM. Why? When Estefania "left" him for Rosendo, it only confirmed for what what he thinks deep inside: that he was unworthy of someone like Estefania.
That's also another reason (besides jail) why he won't stick his rifle into Kenia's cenote: he can't believe (& neither can we) that a hot young girl like Kenia would want somebody like HIM.
Carmina only wanted him because Estefania had him. Augusto spoiled & treated Estefania like a queen...and Elisa like his little princess. Meanwhile she was the side ho of Rosendo, hidden away in the shadows. Estefania got the jewels, the lands and the status while Carmina got a booty call.
IMO Alfie probably gave Tona some drug to make Braulio *think* he slept with Tona so she could trap him with Vincente & marriage. I really don't see Braulio running off to Tona's bed right after breaking up with Lolita.
Carlos's favorite line was also mine. "I got hot just looking at him." That made me laugh so loud I think I scared the mailman. He probably thinks I keep a hyena as a pet.
daisynjay, I agree that something is going to go wrong for Gael and Paloma. It kind of has to. Those two somehow need to start fresh, where it is Gael who comes to realize how he really feels for Paloma, then he needs to work to regain her trust. Otherwise their relationship will always feel lopsided to me.
I was so glad that Paloma and Gael told Damian what his mother did. I was actually shocked that it came out. That breaks a TN rule, I'm sure.
I agree too that I don't see what Kenia sees in Augusto. If he were at least a little bit sexy, then I could buy it. Bad casting indeed.
Lolita-- don't marry him, please.
My faves:
"Pollenating with all of Ermita"
[Horacio wanting to] "carry her milk forever. He wants to be the only milkman in her life."
"muscular wall" (that's our Damian, prissy lips aside)
Just one caveat--Antonia didn't say Lolita was "fea"...she said something to the effect that it was great Horacio asked her to marry him because otherwise she would be an old maid,a leftover (q and that would be "muy feo".[Esto de ser una quedada debe ser muy feo] Just another nasty dig at Lolita's singlehood and probably another reason why her husband doesn't make love to her.
I only remember this because sometimes I jot down interesting sentences as I hear them, and this is the one I wrote.
Your recaps are a treat and we love being included when you need help, amiga...but nobody can dish the one-liners like you can.
What was that novela that paired a younger actress with an older actor? I remember the actor was Cesar Evora (spell) and I think he played two parts, evil twin and nice twin...that was back in my early days of Spanish. Anyway, I remember thinking that the age difference would really bug me if Evora wasn't such a handsome guy. Ass is just, well, Ass NO Gusto. lol
Lolita better not let it go far with Horror-acio. Please someone tell her what he did..is Gabino the only one who knows?
anyway, here are my fill-in-the-gap notes.. most are already covered by Vivi, though.
II and Kenya after Dam and Elisa left: II wanted to know what happened. Kenya was mad that Elisa came in… II says she could not stop her but what happened with Dam? Kenya says you screwed it all up, now she lost Dam’s and Elisa’s friendship thanks to II. She complicated it all. Then Kenya was so mad at II she did not want II to come in at all.
Gael and Paloma at with mountain:
I believe the conversation was about Paloma afraid of what would happen when it was known around town that Paloma and Gael are going out, what would happen with Elisa’s games… Gael says that will be Elisa’s issue, not theirs… Paloma happy with that answer.
After Ramona asked Gael what his intentions were, because she does not want him to use Paloma to get Elisa out of his system, he tells her that that is not his intention either, that he is giving it a full blown try with Paloma, but in any case, Paloma knows exactly how he feels and where he stands. Once Gael leaves Ramona repeats to Paloma that she just does not want Paloma to get hurt if Gael gives up on it after a while and she ends up hurt.
At casadearango, Tonia was telling Braulio that it had been some time since they made love, sort of they are so happy that Damian was helping them with Chente by making him work the mornings and studying in afternoons (or viceversa)… but Braulio was not turned on at all so he said he was going to sleep..
Yes, Damian brushes off both Flo and mommy botox and tells them to butt out of his business when they insist they want to know who was it that he went out to meet.
Elisa and Lolita are surprised there could be something going on between Assusto and Kenya, but they are not ready to jump in and interfere if there is anything going on.
Elisa packing. Dolores not to bet on the moving, dad and Mommyinlaw slept together last night so they might have made up.
Iglesia, after Dam rushes out of rectory, Gael worried they told Dam way more than what they should have, that most of that detail was for Elisa to tell Dam if she wanted to. Paloma then worries that if Dam does not get back with Elisa, does that affect Gael or their relationship? Gael seems a bit miffed that Paloma does not know him enough to know he does not usually let others influence over his decisions or relationships (really, Gman?)
Agosto and Lucio at park talked that Padre’s testimony helped a lot in getting his case resolved, and also owe it to Elisa for getting the money from Alfie. Lucio reminds him how Elisa put her lands pretty much in the hands of Alfie, and Agosto has to find a way to get that loan paid so Elisa won’t lose her lands. They have to find a way to get that money.
Paloma opens the door and molests Gael at the threshold.
Paloma definitely does not waste time, she sure charged him as soon as she opened the door!
well, at least she is not the psycho stalker type, she waits until he shows up.. lol!! who wound't charge?? ... (looking around my back for anyone raising their hand)
I am DYING LAUGHING at Blue Lass' comment!! I love it!!! I'll pretend right along with you. I laugh every time I see that jerk Assgusto with his dumb broken glasses. It's become hilarious!!
Faves from today not yet mentioned:
“If I were Lolita, I would say no just because of the Authur Fonzarelli collar.”
“Ramona walks in and rescues Gael from being mauled.”
“We all know that Elisa needs an audience to have a good cry.”
“Damien rings the bells to alert everyone, including the man that keeps trying to shoot him, that he has arrived.”
“What about Florencia? Remember the chick that lives in your house, eats your food and tries to sleep with you?”
I admit I'm not watching anymore (we've been wrapping up El Tal and now Amorcito is going to 2 hours), but I wouldn't miss the recaps for the world. Thanks, everyone!
ROF and LOL!!!
EY is forever etched in my brain as Juan from the e. coli bakery in FELS. My telenovela beanie hat would have to be tightened by at least three sizes. ;-)
Marta, what will you do with your CS dialogues?
I also find it incredible how Kenia seems to have a thing for Augusto. He seems to be a magnet for young girls for some reason.
I don't have a problem with Alejandro Camacho in the role. I never thought he needed to be handsome, although Leonardo Daniel was a little more atractive in Cañaveral but that's not necessary for this version.
This version is much more pathetic and sad and I think Camacho's choices are intentional, he can be an extremely commanding presence on screen but he is not going for that here, he is going for a more subdued personality that acts sometimes like a pathetic abuser so I think what he we are seeing on screen has to do more with the writing than his performance.
An OT but, since he is being mentioned, Eduardo Yáñez will be back on screen after Abismo in Mexico. With Sebastián Rulli.
Nicandro Díaz (STuD) is remaking Amor en Custodia, a huge hit for TV Azteca a few years ago, also a remake of an Argentinian telenovela.
The story consist in two couples. The younger couple will consist of Sebastián Rulli and Eíza González (Lola, Érase una vez) and the older will be Yáñez and either Maribel Guardia or Érica Buenfil.
The story is about a successful business woman in a strained marriage that survives a murder attempt one day as the galán saves her, she then hires him as a body guard and they fall in love when he shows her the care and affection that her husband does not. Her young daughter, an anorexic, mean party girl, is also given a bodyguard whom she sees with comptempt and tries to get rid off at every opportunity but he is a very proffessional and dedicated man who has throwed himself to his job after a painful divorce and doesn't let her out of his sight.
That's what's coming after Abismo.

Paolo would be good in Augusto's part. He really is old enough to be Elisa's father and he's very handsome and fit. But, then who would be Paolo - goodlooking, spoiled womanizer? That would be a long list.
ITA with all the commenters who were LOL about the EY comment. I was laughing so hard I was crying (not like Elisa!)
sfchicabonita
Colunga will be back also, by the way. His novela is still in very early stages though. It's going to be a Juan Osorio protuction. A remake of a Colombian novela called El Secretario. It's a comedy.
The story is about a man who fled to the US when he had just graduated college but things didn't work out that well and he ended up at minimum wage jobs. He finds out he has a daughter in his country and he goes back to raise her but he has troubles finding the kind of job he wants and ends up taking a job as a secretary of the daughter of the owner of a small toilet paper company. He has to deal with his own predjudices of doing a job he considers made for women and having a boss who is younger than him and also a woman but ends up enjoying his work and forming a team with his boss, while they also fall inlove.
They are still in the early tages of pre-production. The female lead appears to be between Ludwika Paleta or Claudia Álvarez (from Dos Hogares, nor Karla Álvarez).

I think Ben Stiller channeled Palazuelos when he was in Zoolander.
Jarocha - El Secretario sounds like fun. Thanks for the info.
Roberto Palazuelos. He has a pouty mouth and face, always plays a jerk, and is chronically orange too. A liaison with Carmina would be the Orange Festival.
that is hystercal! but oh so true!! i remember him and that we called him the Orange man in the Salome forum
Martaivett, you are pretty amazing!!!
Can you imagine the product of this Orange Man and Orangina!?!?
Be still my beating heart!!
Speaking of our Augusto, I'm glad he had the black socks on. There is something about that man that makes me think he has really bad toe nails like you see on older guys at the beach sometimes! His socks were an important aesthetic accessory!
Doris, thanks for the image of Roberto Palanzuelos with Carmina, now I know I won't get any sleep tonight! Neither one of them would have to wear orange to a Tennessee game, they ARE orange!
here is an archive of most of what i had done prior to the YSBLF files. my geocities page went up in smoke but most of the work can be accessed here... again, not all the credit for the CS books and La Mentira books is mine, i only did some and organized it in the case of LM books.

My fave lines (all mentioned already)
--Paloma's molestation of Gael.
--Black socks making you hot.
--Your schtick with the carrying of the milk is just so awesome!
Hubs sat down and watched a little of this with me this afternoon. He is also confused watching all the ladies throw themselves at Sr. Cat Food. He is laughing at all your comments about beanie tightening and casting.
I stood up and CHEERED when Paloma told all! Now Elisa needs to quit being a ninny.
Urban, do you think this story is from the same period as Pasión? It has simmilar elements, I think. And there's the droit du seigneur in the plot, or at least that's why I think Ana Layevska's character is taken before her wedding, I'm not sure. The clothes look different though, if it is the same period, how do they compare to you in costumes?
Jarocha
She made several films as a kid and her most memorable role even up to today is still the title role in Elisa Antes del Fin del Mundo which came out in 1997 (it was probably made in 1995/96). That movie is a classic now, it won lots of awards and Sherlyn was even nominated for an Ariel (the Mexican Oscar) for best actress. She put a real cockroach in her mouth for the movie, so that should be rewarded somehow.A warning if anybody would like to watch though: children get killed on screen.
She also made novelas during that time and ended up mostly a telenovela actress in her teens.
Jarocha
Here are my faves:
-"he wants to be her milkman forever" (maybe we can call him Tevye?)
- the blue lips theme!
- "God forbid, Dolores think of anything else except comforting Elisa in her time of need."
-Damian rings the bells...that he has arrived
Simply slendid, thank you!
Looks like I need to google Eduardo Yanez. Was he one of UA's pin-ups?
Also, Doris' Roberto Palazuelos. I can't miss the opportunity to see Zoolander's Blue Steel in Orange.
Sandy - old men's toenails on the beach - was his name Mr. R la O?
Rosemary la Otra
I think that Amor Gitano was meant to take place in Renaissance Italy. Pasion felt like it was supposed to be about a hundred years later, but the costumes in that one were all over the place. Fernando Colunga was dressed in the pirate gear of the mid-17th century, but Louis Jose Santander was in a British uniform that happened a hundred years later, as did most of Susana Gonzales' dresses. None of their hair was right for the formal wear; SG's looked like it was more Victorian while the men's hair was 17th c. Some of the women's dresses combined elements of the 17th and 18th c (the pagoda sleeves are a big giveaway).
There were some more egregious issues with the men's costumes and hair in Alborada, but that was a better story with better chemistry between the actors.
They're doing too much Hollywood of the 50s on some of these. I wish they'd be more accurate with the costumes and hair rather than worry about whether the players will look good. Just cast people who fit the period, for cripes' sake. Susana Gonzales is a terrific actress, but I don't think she's so great in novelas de epoca.
Fernando Colunga, au contrario, looks good in any century.
Thanks for doing another snark genius recap without CCs. Great work.
I have little to no access online for the next week. I can only hope the Passion Pitt improves in my absence.
Best to all recappers and commenters.
EJ
It's wierd and annoying because I know the answers to everyone's questions and I can't talk to anyone about it.
Please come back next week for the TEAM effort.
I really love Mauricio Islas in novelas de época. I think there's something about him that translates well to the past.
The producer of Amor Gitano made another novela called Si Dios Me Quita la Vida, set in the 1920's, and César Évora was the galán there. I thought he looked quite dashing as a gentleman of the 20's.
Cynderella: I understand a little how you must be feeling but at least I imagine you still have to see the episodes you haven't watched to see how the characters got to the point they are now. I missed many episodes of this novela but I started watching again when I went back home to Veracruz since my mother watches all novelas from 7pm to 10. Although I was also watching one from tv Azteca (I was recovering from a surgery so I spent alot of time resting).
I just arrived in Mexico City, I will try to follow this one better.
Jarocha
Mauricio Islas seems to fit novelas de epoca quite well so far. There are a few actors I can't picture in them at all and some whom I can picture only in the Victorian age or later. I really miss series like that.
CS 2009 had excellent costuming and hairstyles except for the excessively long hair on Eduardo Yanez (which didn't even look right on him) and Lisardo. It did a good job on the period music as well. It's a shame it had the wrong female lead and the forced comic relief.
