Abismo de pasión #75 6/26/12: The Haunting of Horacio and a REALLY Stupid Plot Twist

Deep In The Mind of Horacio, Not Seen On Your TV Screen

True. There are many mysteries to be solved in La Ermita de Isabella, Merida, Yucatan. There are mysteries that I know about, and secrets that I do not know. But secrets accrete to me; it has always been like that. Many secrets predate my arrival in this ancient village, now an enclave inside the City of Merida. Yesterday, you may have noticed a list of secrets to be revealed in La Ermita, posted by Anon 207, a regular contributor to the Pasion thread. It was very thorough; Anon 207 is good at summarizing such things. For now, I am sick of my own secrets and it is starting to show in my health. I am excessively nervous, yes, nervous as a convent raised nun. I am more sensitive than you might think.
Is it true that my conversations with you are completely confidential? Yes? Well, I go on.

The problem is I have never been either bad enough or good enough to prosper in life, and those who tend to recognize such things can pick me out of a crowd at fifty paces. I am a weak man, but I have a capacity to recognize and appreciate pure good. This is what happened when I saw my Lolita. Ah, Lolita.  The purest, most good, best woman in the world. I thought when I saw her in the market, right after I came to La Ermitat to make a clean start, “A woman like that could make a man change. She could make him walk the straight and narrow”. And then she smiled at me. I would carry her milk forever. Now we are to be engaged. She knows none of my secrets. It must stay that way

The secrets I have with her employer—and now mine—Carmina, are quite damaging. Carmina is a bad, bad woman, pure and simple. She has some hold over Gabino, once my childhood friend—now just another guy with whom I have done deeds best left unspoken. There are quite a few of those guys out there in the world.

But here in La Ermita, there is only Gabino. Carmina found out about the arson at Don Lucio’s shop. She knows about Gabinos’ involvement and mine and first she got us to hijack some mail truck and exchange one letter for another. I have no idea what THAT was all about.  I do not like how she treat Lolita, but there is not much I can do about that now, and most recently she had me clean out some house in the village and dump its contents one town away. Perhaps there will be a way to deal with Carmina one day, but not now.

Today I was introduced to the town Priest and the Curandera when they came to bless the location of our new Butcher Shop. Don Lucio came to let us in. I was very uncomfortable with the whole thing, but I shook his and the priest’s hand. With my left hand. Why the left? I don’t know. It was the only hand available. When we went inside the whole place was extremely cold. This seems highly unlikely in Merida, because they have no refrigeration units there as yet, but I swear it was as cold as a walk-in freezer. Don Lucio became upset while we were there. I began to really twitch. You should have seen me then!

True, I twitch in the face even when I speak of the arson at Don Lucio’s shop. You are very observant. As I said I am very nervous these days. Am I anxious? Yes, I suppose, I could be called anxious. I do not sleep well.  My new hobby takes up so much of my time, but it is cheap and allows me to save all of my money to open the carneceria at Don Lucio’s place.

When Lolita and I are married, we will make a go of, it, I tell you. My Dad did, for many years. Where was that? In a village, far away from here. In what part of the country? North. North of here. Yes, north of here and west. The name of the town? It doesn’t matter, does it? I have not been there in 20 years; I have nothing to do with it anymore. No, no, I have no living family. Ah, am I twitching again? My nerves, my nerves, my horrible nerves.

Shall I tell you of my hobby? Yes, it does occupy a fair amount of my mind. I have taken up…sewing. It is actually a very soothing occupation. Fabric and thread are cheap and I became interested in it right after, well, right after the incident at Don Lucio’s. You won’t credit it, but one day, this Abuela came to me in a dream and told me that I had to learn to sew! I sew by hand for right now, because Abuela Bee, I call her Abuela Bee, says it is best to start at the beginning. My hands are large and clumsy for such work but she insists that I persist. I must learn, she says. I owe it to her. I have begun to dream of clothes I can make for Lolita! Wonderful designs, for the lovely Delores. Did you know the library has many free books on sewing. I am amazed at how much there is to know. Abuela Bee says that I must apply myself. Yes, yes, I used to just see her in my dreams but now she come around all the time. She is very soothing. I am less nervous when she is around. Doctora, are there drugs I should be taking to calm my poor nerves?...Horacio looks a bit wildly around the psychiatrist’s office.

Meanwhile…
Alfonsisna’s Big Ol’ Gas Guzzling SUV, Speeding To Merida Airport

·      In the car on the way to the Merida airport, Alfonsina Arango continues her blackmail of Florencia Landuchi.
·      If Flo doesn’t have a kid called Arango, then Fina will call in Pappa Guido Landucci’s Great Big Loan. What a spider!
·      It is clear that she knows that she might have to resort to nefarious means to get Flo inseminated with said grandchild because she orders her driver to take a detour by a fertility clinic on her way home to La Ermita. She is taking no chances with this one. I wonder if Alfonsina is going to get to look though a book to pick out the baby daddy. She is going to have to go a long way to find a baby daddy up to the caliber of her son. Handsome, bright, seems to have a heart,  great bod—good luck with this one Alfie.

Tovar House

·      Doctor Tovar is still in bed after being attacked last night by an all-too--cheerful Augusto Castanon.
·      Let me see if I have got this straight. Augusto and Carmina host a dinner party, Begonia and Edmundo were the guests. Uninvited guest Alfonsina showed up and spilled the beans about Edmundo and Carmina’s short and unhappy affair to Augusto. Augusto invited Edmundo out to the Cantina for after dinner drinks and beats the living crap out of his dinner guest. Once again, I am not feeling kindly disposed toward ‘Gusto Catfood. I am not amused by the very good job that the Abismo make-up department is doing of replicating facial wounds on Doc Tovar’s broken face.
·      Carmina comes over to the Tovar’s house and sweetly asks Begonia if she could have just a few words with Edmundo. Begonia says yes.
·      Carmina goes to Edmundo’s room and start’s a huge fight…she thinks he has been blabbing her secrets everywhere.
·      Enrique comes in to tell his Dad he just got fired from the procesadora. I guess that is good. He’ll have more time to impregnate Flo so she can claim to be pregnant by Dam-stupid-if-he-believes-it. Begonia knows that Alfonsina is behind this. No sh!# Sherlock! In fairness, I must say that Begonia looks lovely today.  She is doing such a nice job at rehab; do we have to take her out at the knees with the Carmina is the lover thing? Gawd. I want to see this Bumble reformed and working on Team Elisa and Dam.

Elisa and Augusto Go For A Ride to Stef’s Old Lands

·      Augusto makes Elisa a proposition she doesn’t refuse; will she leave La Ermiat forever with him and start over somewhere else? He wants to get his daughter back. Lolita is getting married and he wants to start over as a family without Carmina. Yes, Elisa will go. No she will not tell anybody. They will go after Delores’ wedding.
·      Huh? They went round about Damian. She needs to tell him What did they finally come up with? Arghhh. Recapper scream of “No!” echoes all the way to D.F….

Procesadora
·      Paolo starts stalking his brother at the procesadora with  a smarmy, ” I need to talk to you, brother,” ploy. He lays it on thick with the old, “You are like a father to me routine. Guido to gullible and good looks to be buying it hook line a sinker. Somebody start a rescue Guido club. The man needs a lifeline and QUICK!
·      Maru looks lovely in bright pink today.

Don Lucio and Blanca’s Former Dress Shop

·      Horacio and Delores meet at Blanca and Lucio’s old dress shop for a blessing of the space. Horacio looks very anxious and is wringing his hands at the beginning of the scene. Don Lucio, there to open the former shop, is formally introduced to Horacio for the first time. Lucio reminds all that he met Horacio earlier when Horacio came to get his horse but that he is happy to meet Delores’s fiancée, who, of course, must be a good man. The scary woo-oooo  mezzo-sopranos begin to sing above the action.
·      Padre Lupe walks up to the shop front speaking absurdly of his delay by TRAFFIC. What? Lupe? I can see the church across the street? Lupe has the horse-bit hat twisted in one hand and a dashing medium-green business blessing stole over his shoulder. He is handsome as ever.

At the New Greenhouses

·      Gael and Damian have a conversation about Damian quitting work a little early to go talk to Don ‘Gusto Catfood. Gael chides Damian for not working hard enough. These greenhouses are now his only Patrimony, blah, blah, blah. Mostly we look at the Zepeda and Tacher, shirtless, in jeans, in the sandy scrub, under the Yucatan sky. I’ll give them 25 minutes or so to stop that. Oh, dialogue? What dialogue? Ah, no meaningful dialogue, but they each picked up a large, burlap bag of something that was purporting to be habanero pepper starts and threw it over their shirtless bodies and walked away from the camera. This was not a bad scene.

At Don Lucio and Blanca’s Former Dress Shop

·      Inside at the former Dress Shop, Padre Lupe makes his way around the premises with the tools of his trade, the censor, the holy water, prayers for peace and prosperity. Lucio is silent, hat in hand as Lupe finished his business.  Horacio hangs his head in a way that could be taken as respectful or guilty. A tear fall down his cheek. Lolita holds tightly to Horacio’s arm.
·      Just as Lupe is finishing up, in walks Doña Ramona, Curandera Extraordinaire. Lolita has not failed to hedge her bets but Padre Lupe is not upset. He has the utmost respect for Doña Ramona and her methods. Ramona waves a sheaf of no-doubt powerfully cleansing herbs about as she shoots a dark glance at Horacio.
·      Horacio is acting very nervous indeed. He is holding his head in his hands and would probably rock if he were sitting in a chair. Ramona starts mumbling like the Delphic Oracle and pointing at Horacio. Ominous music plays as Ramona speaks of weird energy, hidden things, mysteries, and secrets. Lolita looks alarmed, as well she should.

Blue House of Shame

·      Ingrid and Gabino discuss her worries about Kenia’s disappearance. Right now, Ingrid seems concerned that Kenia is making an odd move. But while Ingrid has no motherly instincts she has a nose for trouble. Kenia’s behavior may upset her plans.

Former Dress Shop, Now Newly Blessed Butcher Shop, Yuk

·      Horacio and Lolita face off against an upset Ramona who is wailing about hidden secrets. Horacio leaves by himself.

Augusto Was Nice To Elisa For Five Minutes

·      Gael rides up to Augusto who tells him, apropos of absolutely nothing,
·      “Right now Gael, the most important thing for me is the happiness of Elisa.”
·      Augusto goes over to visit Lucio. Augusto talks about wanting the happiness of Elisa more than anything. He also insists that Elisa is not his daughter, she is Rosendo’s. There are many things he does not know; but he knows this.
·      Lucio asks why he is determined to leave the town with Elisa. Because it will keep him from having to kill Damian. Because nothing less than death will separate those two and they are both the children of Rosendo Arango.
·      Wrong again, Catfood.
·      Augusto is truly the FOOL in this deck of cards, poor bastard.
o   A father when he thinks he isn’t.
o   Not a father when he thinks he is.
o   Not a cuckold when he thinks he is one.
o   A cuckold when he thinks he is not.
o   Othello to Desdemona.
o   A proud idiot.
o   The guy is a train wreck, violent, sentimental, mean and very destructive, but you gotta know that Carmina Bouvier has REALLY done him wrong with her lies about Estefania.

Casa Castañon

·      Elisa is happy about the five minutes her dad was nice to her. She seems elated about the idea going away with her dad. As long as it is after Lolita’s wedding. WHAAT IS SHE THINKING??? She tells Lolita who is happy for her.
·      But, the Tiny Brown Recluse Carmina is waiting and she breaks into their happy time with, “Elisa, your Father does not love you. It is not possible.”
·      Elisa responds with, “Ay, Tia. Truly you will take any opportunity to ruin a  happy moment. “
·      Lolita tells Guppy Lips to scram (thanks Sara!) and hurries Elisa out of the kitchen. I think Carmina wants to drop the “You are sibs,” bomb on Elisa, herself, but she didn’t get a chance this time.
·      Elisa is worried about how Damian’s conversation has gone with her Dad.
·      Elisa and Lolita talk about her upcoming wedding.
·      Master Bedroom
·      Carmina and Augusto spat yet again.
·      Carmina confesses her brief fling with Edmundo.
·      Augusto says that nothing happened between that Kenia and himself, partly because of the respect he had for his marriage vows to Carmina and partly because of Estafania. I guess we are not discussing Paolo here.

At Casa Arango

·      Paolo continues to manipulate his brother. He wants his job back at the procesa dora.
·      A disgusted looking Flo returns home with a triumphant Alfonsina. Now it looks like no one is headed for D.F.

Town Center, La Ermita

·      Paloma and Gael meet up outside the Doctor’s office.
·      They talk about THE RELATIONSHIP. Whatever.
Tomorrow

·      With a little luck we will find out why Elisa is so stoopid. I know, because she really IS Augusto's daughter. Why in the name of I.M. Pei would she commit to run away with her Dad? Color me confused.
·      It sure looks like Lolita is getting married to Horacio. She looks like a lovely bride.

Gd Evening, all...

First a note to Edgar Allen Poe. I had to make Horacio a little crazy tonight. I gave him a little teensy haunting by Blanquita. And, if it gets worse before he dies, well, so be it...

As far as the crazy Castañon's went; Elisa and Papa Augusto went round and round about Damian. The last thing I remember was her saying was that Damian was going to come to him (Gusto) asking for permission to marry Elisa. And what was Augusto going to say? I don't know!
At first she said she had to tell Damian. That she loved Damina with all her heart. Then she said that she did not have to think about it. she would go away with her dad after he made the speech about forgiving Stef.

Hell, I was the recapper and I can't figure it out.
Let's to talk about tomorrow.

I confess, I just don't get it. This is one of the the dumbest plot twist I have seen. So Elisa is just going to leave the love of her life forever, WHY????

I must be tired or the power of Augusto is greater than I think.

Elna June

EJ. A very good recap. ITA with your emphasis on Horacio and the “cleansing” scene. It was one of the most moving scenes I remember in this TN so far. I think Don Lucio carried the day. Horacio’s expression throughout was tremendous.

This is really getting to be a TN where the subplots and subplayers are the reason for watching (sorry, bare chests don’t do it for me!). I am finally feeling something for Flo (even though she’s the antagonista?!), poor Guido, and the family Tovar. I find myself rooting for Gabino / Paulo / Ingrid.

All of this is good because I am in permanent “grito” mode with the main plots. If this is the way Eliza treats someone she loves “forever with all her soul,” I do not want to see how she treats someone she does not like. Oh wait, she’s not terribly fond of the way her father treats her. The only way this plays is as some very sick abuser-abused co-dependency which defies understanding. I could even see Assgusto getting sexual ideas about Eliza, given what we have seen so far. (Please do not let it go there!!)

Paloma and Gael: pathetic.

Alphonsina and Carmeany: bats**t crazy.

Damian: passive and stupid, especially if he still wants Eliza after this latest twist. IMO, he’s better off with Flo (or anyone else).

Mod Ant

EJ, who knew Horacio was an existentialist? I thought I was reading Sartre or Jean-Claude Izzo for a moment there. Truly, you must write a novel, but I digress.

Granny Bee? I love it. Can we call her Aunt Bea? Where were we?

"Gawd. I want to see this Bumble reformed and working on Team Elisa and Dam." Me too!

"This was not a bad scene." Uh, no, and the habaneros weren't the only hot thing going on there.

Wow, I am amazed at your assessment of Assgusto (FOOL). I think our friend Mod Ant would agree.

Gah! And double Gah at the avances. I do NOT want Lolita to marry Horacio. Unless she gets some great lovin' of course. In which case I will grant her temporary dispensation. Heh.

Thanks EJ! I love your recaps. They always seem to be a romp between the classic and the problematic, hence proving those two traits are not mutually exclusive. Thank you for that, and for reminding us of the human condition.

Ah, I just read the comments (while I was writing mine) and see EJ was channeling Poe. Another of my favorites.

OMG, and Mod Ant is here too! Let's call it happy hour, shall we?

EJ, I totally agree, after all Elisa's whining about Love Everlasting she is ready to leave it all for...I don't even want to say it...Asgusto? Nope. Doesn't make sense.

Mod Ant, I agree with you in all areas except the bare chests. I consider them my perq. Oh, and maybe that bit about Dam being better off with Flo. But I won't nit pick about the latter. Dam is on his own there.

Mod Ant and Sylvia:
Hola, hermanas. Thank you two for your early comments. They are very much appreciated.

You know your recapper is pithed off when she begins torturing characters (haunting Horacio) and continuing to insist that doubling the protagonista's bra size provides us with a generous estimate of her IQ. Note that I am not talking about Boyer here, I think she is canny as a fox, that one, just our stoopid non-heroine Elisa.

I think Paloma is a doll. Why doesn't she switch horses
mid-stream and grab a little time with Damian. Gael might really come around then. Damian deserves a better person than Elisa, even if he is an emotional basket case .

EJ

"I think Paloma is a doll. Why doesn't she switch horses
mid-stream", been there, done that, it can be fun. Why not indeed? Paloma is at a dead end with Gael and needs to shake thinks up a bit.

I love that you haunted Horacio. It sounds like a great book title, "Haunting Horacio".

Good idea, mi

I'll start working on it in my spare time. That idea has some legs.

I still love the Mission Impossible idea where everybody teams up to take Fina Shelob DOWN! Wouldn't it be fun to see everybody cooperate And plan an elaborate sting of Alfie where Damian gets the La Anita back and you get Guido?
Such a fun idea!

Giggles.

EJ

Thanks EJ, even though I'm not able to see the capitulo, I think I understand the action.  Thanks!

I've always thought you should "adjust" your analysis of novela characters, they are no more than rag dolls being pushed around by very unusual writing . (I've never seen a "Mad Men" novela where both good and bad seem real!) For the most part, extremly cruel people aren't fooling extremely stupid people day after day clustered together in small communities like La Ermita.  When the writers take the Augusto character too far and make most of the good people to dense to figure out Carmina, who is quite obvious, you just have to "adjust" your thinking for real life. For that reason,  I'll always hope that even over-dramatized characters like a Teresa or Augusto can turn their life around before El Fin, like MANY, MANY people in real life do every second of every day!!!  I "adjust" my criticism of them because of the novela writing. Am I making any sense? I don't think that you can apply reason to most novela characters so we adjust our reasoning to what they would be in real life.

I'm proud of myself, last night, while my girlfriends were describing their bad encounter with a mean friend,  I was able to say, "She's just like a Black Widow Spider!" to much agreement.  See, we can use our novela descriptions in real life!  I plan to work in Orange-Ho today!

Elna June, this was fresh and innovative. I'm in awe. You captured Horacio perfectly "I am a weak man, but I have a capacity to recognize and appreciate pure good". This was sensational.

I smiled (although somewhat grimly) at "But while Ingrid has no motherly instincts she has a nose for trouble". Indeed. It seems more of a curiosity based musing; more like trying to figure out if her daughter has outschemed her, the pupil surpassing the teacher. How very sad.

Pathetic is the word of the day. Elisa's delight in the supposed affection of a father who has neglected his child her entire life. Paloma and Gael trying to pretend an actual romance exists.

If I had been Horacio and been the recipient of Ramona's muttered utterances and stare, I would have cowered in fear. Be afraid Horacio. Be very afraid.

Wonderful comments all!

Thanks EJ, you made my day!!

Diana

EJ, I so love your Horacio first person contribution. Armando played the character very layered last night, which is one of the reasons I find Horacio fascintating. I don't think marriage will work out well for he and Lolita just because of the very demons you brilliantly relayed to us. But he does have a conscience it seems with what he has done. If that were Gab standing at that cleansing, all we would have seen was his lovely sneer.

As for our main girl--gees, go ahead, leave with Dad. Frankly, those two are starting to bore me to tears. Just a dumb plot twist...so Dam will find out, get pithed at Elisa ( we knew there would have to be something happen to cause that), he'll go back to Flo faster than you can blink an eye, and weepy Elisa will go find Gael again to cry to and he will get all "I love you" again with her, thus maybe, finally causing Pathetic to realize she isn't ever going to get this guy to fall for her 100% and move on. Did I cover everything?

In the meantime, Rusty Guppy-lips will just keep giving everyone the stink eye, Alfi can design that gold-tipped throne she has always wanted, and maybe Lucio and Maru will be the two who finally get to leave town and start over.

I'm sticking with this one, I do enjoy it, but it does try one's patience at times. Last night was one of those times.

Begona=Bumble. Love it!!

EJ: Just when I think I've already read the best recap, you come up with this masterful piece.
What an imagination you have.

Alfonsina and Paolo are now showing us their meanest and most devious sides. Both are betraying family members at the worst level.
I don't know about Florencia. A good talk with Guido might change her life for the best. But, Alfonsina and Paolo are definitely doomed.

Can anyone imagine being hauled off to a fertility clinic and submitting yourself to something like examinations and drugs that probably are completely unnecessary.

Anyway, poor Lolita. Horacio is such a conflicted person who could be good if he didn't have such a bad past. She is so beautiful - whoever she is - and such a fine character.

But, what? Elisa is going to sell out and leave town with Augusto. I thought my TV had hiccupped. No puede ser.

Oh EJ! You're recaps get better all the time. I loved your in the head of Horacio intro. Simply brilliant. I don't see this wedding coming off without a hitch tonight.

I had company over last night, so this was on in the background and I couldn't really get everything that was happening. We have no idea how Elisa plans to both be with the love of her life Damian, AND run off with papa Augie? Hmmm...ok.

I'm kind of mad at Gael right now. Mad that he keeps acting pissy with Damian, just because he has the bad luck of Elisa loving him. Mad because he's stringing Pal along. And really mad that he hasn't had one thought about where Kenia is. She has been his shadow since she came to La Ermita. She didn't even stay away this long the last time she actually left town-- she even called him from Merida a few times. Not one thought has gone through his mind that he should check up on her? If even just to see how she's coping with Augie's rejection. He's just being so self-centered right now.

Sorry for the Gael rant. I do love the guy, but I'm not liking him a lot right now.

Vivi: Didn't Gael have a falling out with Kenia when she asked him to deliver the letter?

Yes, they did have a disagreement Pasofino. All the more reason for him to check up on his little sister. After they had the huge blow-up when she revealed that she was his sister, she still didn't stay away from him this long. It's not like her. The girl is persistent about everything.

Thanks EJ, just loved your wonderful recap. I fully agree with Mod Ant that the subplayers are more interesting at this point, Guido, Ramona, Lolita, Flo and my favorite, the Padre. I hate what the writers ae doing with Elisa, making her seem silly and without any emotional fortitude when it comes to her father. I also agree Mod Ant that either the writers or the actors approach to the character of Ass-G is beyond creepy. He is uncomfortable to watch at times and gives the plot an unpleasant aura.

Yola

EJ - thanks for this wonderful recap. Horacio clearly needs more haunting b/c I need him to breakdown and confess BEFORE he tries to marry Lolita.

And yes I want to join you at the MI table and help Flo. With our table team, we can take down Fina and her horrible scheme.

Are the writers really going to use this ridiculous idea (The Toad and his daughter leaving town) just to keep Elisa and Dam apart? And then have Flo do another pregnancy ruse? I hope they have more creativity than that. Though Flo is in a state worse than purgatory presently, her response to her father when she returned gives me hope (perhaps my own pure fantasy) that she might not be as accommodating as Fina would like.

Vivi - ITA on your Gael rant. He guilted Dam from leaving to talk to the Toad so he could go and ask why Disgusto is allowing Dam to marry Elisa. What a friend! Then he goes and starts playing boyfriend w/Pal. And EJ yes Pal should change horses now.

Pasofino - ITA regarding Flo & Guido I think they can be saved. Flo hates Fina now and if she could figure out how to save her Dad, she'd leave town ASAP.

Though its been a while since I've seen a TN with amnesia plotline and I usually don't enjoy it, to me it would be better than watching the same thing happen w/Dam/Elisa/Flo/Gael.

Just fabulous!!! I love the Horacio intro. You really captured what surely must be going on in his head.

I'm another vote for Begonia as Bumble. I love that and share your sentiments. I hope she is happy in the end, too.

I am also completely on board with you on the Sr Cat Food and Elisa leaving plot line. STUPID STUPID STUPD.

I am very afraid for Lolita tonight. All dressed up...but will there be a wedding?

And Flor got a ton of sympathy from me last night. How humiliating to be dragged to a fertility clinic by a woman who is not even your mother in law.

Hilarious EJ! I knew who was writing it when I read the first paragraph - she who gives deep background, LOL!

I was so disgusted with the ridiculous proposal and Elisa's acceptance, that I had to walk away. Of course, I was prepping dinner, so that makes it easy LOL!

Elisa is a grown woman, ready to start her own family, so NOW is the time to attempt a do-over as father and daughter. What???

And I really feel for Flor now in the clutches of that maniacal alpha-bitch suegra-from-hell. Wow! I never dreamed Alfa would ever go this far. I guess this story is about seeing how far the BSC meanies will go to get their way in addition to how far pathetic Elisa will go to "win" her father's unconditional love. Whew!

Great job Elna June. I love your take on Poe. Right away I recognized the self-absorbed rambling lunacy. Perfect fit for Horacio.

Our slightly unstable Augusto also would make a dandy Poeish character. He certainly has that unhinged brooding demeanor.

I thought that Padre Lupe could have approached the mini exorcism a bit more seriously and I would have enjoyed it more if Ramona had taken things over the top by blowing billows of cigar smoke and spewing aguardiente all over the place while she switched the premises with her fistful of weeds.

I think that between the two of them they could have scared a confession out of Horacio right then and there.

I thought Flo and Guido both expressed hopeless desperation without either uttering a word.

Carlos

Gracias, Elna Jung! The inside Horacio's head text was great as was the rest. Lots of good acting last night, especially Armando Araiza in the burned out shop.

I agree w/ you, Mod Ant: bare chests don't do it for me, either.

Give me a break on this Augusto and Elisa leaving after a two minute conversation. Fer cryin' out loud. Did they bring on a now-out-of-work El Tal writer to get this plot twist?

Wow, I really want Lolita to have her wedding but it looks like that's a question mark judging from the previews.

And speakin' of Florencia, the actress' name of Altair is also the name of one of the primary navigational stars for those who still practice the ancient art. Altair being the brightest star in the constellation Aquila. Now you know.

Feliz miercoles a todos!

EJ, I just re-read your recap, what a fun read, and I loved this line: "I would carry her milk forever." Bwahahahaaa! You're a genius.

Mike, "out of work El Tal writer", I wondered the same thing. Sheesh.

Aw c'mon everyone, we all know Assgusto and Elisa are never going to get out of La Ermita. It's like a curse or something. The only way to leave is...DEATH. And even then you might pop up in a cenote somewhere.

"I have never been either bad enough or good enough to prosper in life. ... I am a weak man, but I have a capacity to recognize and appreciate pure good."

What a magnificent preamble to a novela within a novela, amiga! My only disappointment was coming to the end of your resonant psychological study and trying to come to terms with the actual tn. (Which is, psychologically speaking, not so resonant.) Thank you for sharing your creativity with us. You are amazing. Truly.

So about the episode itself --
There is definitely something very creepy about fully-matured Elisa running away with Umberto Umberto (trailed by the ghostly figures of Kenia and Damián?) The writers won't actually GO there but they have raised the ICK factor exponentially, no?

The Shunning of the Familia Tovar is well underway. The pueblo will surely have a new doc in place by the time Edmundo is well enough to return to his office.

And where the blazes is Edmundo's room in that house? How is it that B. didn't hear the slam of the door and the shouting?

If Augusto is the FOOL in this deck of cards, then Carmina is the JOKER. Never forget -- all the events being played out stem from the BIG LIE: Estefanía and Rosendo were lovers.

Here's what Ramona said:

Ese hombre no me gusta
Tiene una sombra muy oscura
Una energía muy pesada
Y algo oculto

While she spoke, Horacio raised his hands and covered his ears briefly.

Lolita, be very afraid!

And Friends of Gweedo, sorry but I'm still not feeling the love. When he fired that nice Quique, he gave off vibes of a mid-level capo in Alfonsina's organization.

It was kind of funny when Gweedo accuses Paolo of disappointing him over and over (me defraudas) and Paola acknowledges: Te he defraudado.

The primary meaning of the word "defraudar" is "to disappoint" (=decepcionar). The secondary meaning is "to defraud" (=estafar).

The viewer (and Paolo himself) know he is guilty of having "defraudado" his brother in both senses of the word.

Oh EJ....I was completely captivated by your Horacio intro. Isn't it time to tell us your pseudonym? I KNOW you must be a published novelist or short story writer somewhere. Fess up amiguita!

In addition to that delicious Horacio preamble, loved:

"Dam-stupid-if-he-believes it."

"scary woo-oooo mezzo-sopranos begin to sing..."

and your wry shirtless comment...
"I'll give them 25 minutes or so to stop that".

Only disappointment...I was sure you were going to title this DUMB AND DUMBER. 'Cause it sure was. I was so disgusted by Elisa's unfathomable decision to toss her planned marriage aside and run away with Daddy, I was too nauseous to even yell or throw something at the TV. C'mon writers. Creepy. Stupid. Idiotic. And then some.

But not your recap. That was sheer genius.

Oh and Novela Maven...thanks for quoting Ramona's lines again. Psychics are always noticing Dark Energy (at least the questionable New Age ones around here do) but Ramona was spot on with Horacio.

Frankly, I don't want Lolita to marry him, even without that Dark Past. In this story, he just looks like he never ever bathes. Not very enticing for the wedding night. Or any other night.

Novela Maven, yep, Guido has been pretty disappointing the last couple of episodes. From his point of view he is trying to save himself and Alfonsina could be his lifeline. Even though he is supposed to be this big businessman I don't think he has a clue what it's like to go up against someone like Alfonsina. Flo and Paolo, they have a clue, but Guido is about to find out pretty quickly. Now the collateral damage is just a poor fool like Enrique (and the entire Tovar family, but that is another discussion), but who knows what or who will be next?

His character has been fairly one dimensional so far. I'm looking forward to both Guido and Flor getting some meatier plot developments. Neither of those actors has been given much to work with yet.

Thanks to all for the lovely comments. I love hearing from each of you.

I am in a ranting mood so I must apologize up front to my dear amigos and compatriots who are sharing this journey on the Crusie Ship 'Abismo de Pasion'.

I love telenovelas as a medium. If I really love them in theory more than in execution I can be forgiven I am sure. Who wouldn't want more time, the best writers, great sets, camera work and costuming, no commercial pressures and the best possible actors to portray characters over a long arc?

I applaud TN writers venturing out of the box with plots and doing something interesting and creative with old stories.

But I do not like being toyed with. I do not appreciated being played. If you, Señor/Señora writer want to do a riff on Nabokov knock yourself out. But do it in a movie or a one off show. Do not insert an aggro agronomist named Augusto as a central character in a 100-plus episode telenovela an make him a serial predator of young women. Ya! Basta!

You have played with us for months, upping the ick factor as you went.
A 30++ Augusto was obsessed with a teenage Estefania. He courted he when she was underage. Augusto had to wait to marry Estef until she was 18.

He married her younger sister 2 days after Stef's death. He nearly had an affair with Kenia, who was seventeen, and he is now 55+ years old.

Now Augusto is convinced (and is willing to do no further investigation) that Elisa is not his daughter. He has recently become obsessed by her happiness. Now he has asked her to run away with him and leave her home and beloved fiancee forever. She replies without having to think about it, "Yes!".

From just whose perspective did we see last night's Augusto/Elisa scenes? If I did not know better I would think we saw them from a sick and unreliable Augusto's head space. Now he is CONVINCED that Elisa is not his daughter, he is going to take her away from Rosendo's son and have her to himself forever. Those scenes seemed so confusing and unreliable, all I could think of, was my friends Novela Maven and Cap'n Sylvia who had screamed Humbert Humbert in the past.

Pah! I did not like an egomanicial and self-justifying child predator Humbert Humbert in Nabokov's Lolita. (And, yes, I think the writers are toying with us in using the name "Lolita" for the older but virginal character of Delores in Abismo—a mind bending twist, for sure).

I do not like the monomaniacal and self-deceiving Umberto Umberto (thanks NM) in Abismo de Pasion.

And now he is going to run away into the sunset with his own daughter. Tell me he has pure thoughts. Not on your life. As usual, the only person Augusto is fooling is himself.

With regrets to my dear amigos at the Gusto Catfood table, love you guys, can't abide the character.

EJ

ElnaJune - Great redcap and I loved your Horacio intro. Thank you!

I, too, was going "Que diablo?" when Augusto proposed that he and Elisa leave town and start over, the two of them, and she said, without hesitation, "Sure thing dad". Que diablo? WT*? The writers have hit a new low. Seriously.
MONKEY WRITERS!!! BRING ON THE BANANAS!!!

This also adds a higher "ick" factor to the A/E relationship. Since Augusto believes Elisa is not his biological daughter, I also wondered if he might subconsciously - or consciously - think he can replace Kenia with Elisa (who IS of age).
EEEeeeeewwwww!

The shirtless scenes were meh if you ask me. And the faux shower scene --- pouring bottled water over yourself --- double meh.

What we learned in this episode:
Damina has luuurrrrrve handles.

Tovar's facial wounds really do look authentic. Kudos to the makeup department.

EJ - we were posting at the same time. re: your comments about Augusto/Elisa scene, I kept waiting for him to wake up and it all be a dream. When Uni cut to commercial, I realized this is not a dream. Gah!

JudyB - I'm with you at the Lolita-please-don't-marry-Horacio. The guy has always given me the creeps and I won't wax graphically on what I think of his appearance.
Run, Lolita, run!

Elna June, amiga, thank you for letting loose with the rant! I was feeling so alone! :D

Doris,
"The shirtless scenes were meh if you ask me. And the faux shower scene --- pouring bottled water over yourself --- double meh."

Hah. ITA. You notice that the other guys in the invernadero had the sense to keep their (plaid) shirts on and keep their love handles to themselves. Those two gueros should have been either very red after a short time or very brown, if they habitually go topless.

I liked the shirtless scenes. I know the bottled water was completely gratuitous. Bring it on!

Thanks EJ, your fantastic. I confess I don't like living in Horacio's head, though.

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking the disgusting thought of Augusto making a play for Elisa. Just as I hoped the writers wouldn't go there with Kenia, I really really hope they don't go there with Elisa.

Perhaps the wedding doesn't go off as planned so therefore Elisa doesn't want to leave Lolita alone and they end up staying.

I feel sorry for Flo too, but at least she knows just what she's dealing with with regard to Alfonsina. And now Daddy knows too. I can't see him having a relationship with her now.

I also thought the same thing about Carmina slamming the door when she visited Edmundo. I can't believe Begonia didn't come up to see what was wrong.

A few tell-tale signs that someone in a telenovela is a very very bad man:

>He has a facial tic triggered by certain subjects (often involving unsolved crimes)

>He calls his woman "chula"

>He has questionable hygiene and very bad hair.

Horacio = 2/3
Gabino = 3/3

Draw your own conclusions.

Antonio from El Tal = 3/3, and add flings booze around the room, 4/4.

Mod Ant
Thanks for your kind words. Glad to hear from you. The sub-plots are the only thing worth watching right now. Couldn't agree more. As to the bare manly chests, they aren't usually a huge draw for me, but I must confess seeing those two fine specimens of mid-thirties manhood on my screen last night, I did not feel the need to turn away.

Sandy, I can't wait to hear the results of you working the phrase "Orange Ho" into the conversations with your girls.

That should produce some real giggles. Do any women of your acquaintance have the overdone tan thing going on? I know one or two my self. Do report on the results of your convo.

Cap'n:

Horacio as an existentialist? Oh my, I drifted too far from 'The Tell Tale Heart' and into my own early-21-century Way-post-Freudian Philoso-religo-psycho-babble. It can happen, dear Cap'n, especially after 10 days or so on retreat. Of course you would sniff out my syncretistic thinking!Abrazos a ti!

Thanks Diana, for your kind comments. Seeing a note from you makes my day too. I am with you, I would cower under the nearest solid wood table if I heard Ramona make such pronouncements. Did you read NM's elegant rendering of Ramona's words? They scared me, for sure. At least we left Horacio haunted. I figure we can always call on Balnquita to dial up the action if he irritates us.

Daisynjay, thanks for you kind words. You have to stick with the TN, m'dear, we are all in this thing together. I love how your mind works. As you can see from my rant below, I share your lack of enthusiasm for some of the current plot points.

Pasofino, you are too kind. Alas, my vivid imagination makes life...interesting. I never seem to see the world from quite the same perspective as the majority.

I agree with you about the abuse of Flo. Alfie is WAY OTT. How can you just drag a woman into a fertility clinic and order her to have a random baby??? It is beyond outrageous.Truly this is criminal, I think.

EJ

EJ: Wonderful creativity once more!
LOVED:
Padre Lupe walks up to the shop front speaking absurdly of his delay by TRAFFIC. What? Lupe? I can see the church across the street (I thought exactly the same when he said that as why he was late, I too saw the church in the background)

"This was not a bad scene." Uh, no, and the habaneros weren't the only hot thing going on there.
Good summary, Sylvia,… the scenery itself I would rewatch but I can do without the ‘Gael spoiled bratt tantrum no. 43’ audio.

Gael rides up to Augusto who tells him, apropos of absolutely nothing…
This was tantrum no. 44, and I totally put this against Gael.. he had no reason to hold back Damian and come over and be mad at Augusto for agreeing to talk to Damian after the first attempt from Damian resulted in Asgusto shooting him… either way it is NONE of Gael’s business… and he is COMPLETELY WRONG in his attitude, IMO triggered by out of control hormones/testosterone…
“Right now Gael, the most important thing for me is the happiness of Elisa.”
I was feeling sick at this, since I know he is trying to take Elisa away for the wrong reasons... like you said, it lasted him a whole of 5 minutes before ‘salio el peine’ about his real reasons to leave with her. (not to save the father daughter relationship but to stop him from killing Dam if he wanted to get together with Elisa again)

Augusto is truly the FOOL in this deck of cards, poor bastard
AMEN TO THAT!!

Elisa is happy about the five minutes her dad was nice to her.
Well said! I could not agree more with this…

Paloma and Gael meet up outside the Doctor’s office.
They talk about THE RELATIONSHIP. Whatever.
Paloma said stte of ‘since Elisa and Dam are getting married, lets follow their lead! And Gael put the brakes on the ‘potranca’ (LOL!) that she was going way too fast… but didn’t he lead her on by approaching her so loveylovey just seconds before? Dude!! Make up your mind!! And don’t hurt others while you are thinking!!

Vivi, Daisynjay, I too am getting sick of where they are leading Gael here as a character... Vivi, totally agree that he should be focusing on finding Kenya and living his own life than trying to control Dam/Elisa... you can't say someone else stole what was never yours to begin with and you know it!

I agree that Alfie has long ago crossed the OTT line but she created a new one last night... i am surprised Flo did not just run out of there...
Why didn't BeGoneYa hear any of Tangel-Ho's screams at Inmundo is beyond me... that house cannot be more than 800 square feet counting both levels, so nowhere to hide!

Loved your rant my dear EJ. I have had a problem with this chracter from the start, and with every little reveal, I find myself getting sicker at the site of him. It isn't just because Asshat isn't the least bit appealing to look at ( he is no James Mason or Jeremy Irons if you go by the film versions), but he is played and shown to be almost creepy in how he goes after or lusts after these young women. When he hugged Elisa last night, anyone else take that look on his face to be far from "fatherly". True, some chartacter who admits that the child they raised is not theirs biologically is still them their true child, but I'm not getting that vibe here with Asshat.

Is it too much to hope for that Guppy lips get off her rump and if she is going to bump someone off, or do some damage to someone, maybe it's Asshat. I apologize as well to those thinking maybe he's redeemable, but he makes my skin crawl. Right now, I can tolerate II better then him, so that's saying something.

I certainly didn't mind the shirtless scenes frankly. With what we had to endure with A/E, it was a pleasant break and I could have used one of the bottles to wash my eyes out.

I should add that if dear old dad can be taken out of the equation by the writers, they then need to focus on our main girl. She's a mess of contradictions and really needs to be humanized again. Can't even figure out motivations or behavior anymore. I may be at the Flo table for awhile until they straighten her out.

EJ you dont mind if i steal the 'cruise ship' idea for tonight's recap... but judging from the previews it might turn out to be more like 'the wedding party boarded the S.S. Minnow instead of their scheduled cruise ship'

Announcement: A dartboard has just been installed on the Patio of Lowered Expectations. Our special dartboard has an interchangeable target feature. A large color head shot of Assgusto Cat Food (with broken glasses) is premiering in the target position today. Pick up your darts at the "WTF is Elisa thinking?" table.

For what it's worth --

I took a peek at the captions for the scene where Lupe swooshes in and they say:

¡Ay híjole, qué calor, jóvenes del trópico!

Sylvia, I always thought el tal Antonio took lots of showers (I mean, what else did he have to do?) and probably smelled pretty good. Oh well. He'd still rate 3/3 when we add the throwing booze around the room criterion.

Vivi: Thanks, dear amiga. I am glad you enjoyed the recap. You are doing fine work over there on Refugio. I wish I had time to watch more often but your excellent writing is keeping me in the with the story.

I too, find Gael's behavior annoying. This is where casting 30-somethings in what should be a 20-somthing role is just not believeable. If Gael were played by a 20-something naive young man, I could almost buy the 'make nice with Paloma thing'. But playing hide the amulet from Damian? Too, too much, even for Tacher to pull off, and I think he is a good actor.

Yola, thanks for your nice words. You hit the nail on the head with Augusto. He "gives the plot an unpleasant aura." Well said!

Karen, we are going to have fun with our MI table. (Theme music start up...)First I think we need a week/fortnight on a tropical island/great world capital to rev up our strategic think-ing brains. Nice people can bring us yummy food and drinks while we think strategic thoughts about how to take Fina down while saving our sub-heroes and heroines and Damian before the end of the show. We might even let Stupid Elisa live if she gets a REAL good therapist, AND she and Dam Hindered agree to stay in couples counseling until they develop some parenting skills. You know they will have kids long before they should. (Never.)

You get first suggestion on our meeting place.

Audrey, always so good to hear from you, esp. knowing you have to recap over on LQNPA tonight. Thanks for your kind words. These writers are some kind of crazy, kind of like your guys over there on LQNPA. Rohel has really lost it, NO? Lordy!
Giggle. What we recappers get to deal with. Jajajajaja! Thanks again for your comment.

EJ

Which

Love it Sylvia-- darts are always a fun drinking game. Do we get extra points for hitting the broken lends section?

"WTF is Elisa thinking?" table. There may not be enough chairs to sit all of us tempted to sit there!!

"WTF is Elisa thinking?" table.
yeah its getting crowded over here, better watch out for the flying darts...
the S.S.Minnow character matchup... got three right off the start...
Don Lucio = Mr Roper(is that the last name of the rich old man?)
AssHat = The professor, but he must be on drugs because he is talking nonesense lately.
Elisa is looking lately as shallow-brained as Ginger... when she could have been Mary Anne

Carlos:

I love that you got the Poe reference! Was it the "True!" that clued you in? Or was it Horacio's shifty evasive self-serving story telling? Or that he was looking for a pill to save him? Or Lolita? Just like Augusto is looking for a Lolita, erhm, Stefania, to save himself?

It is so fun to have you on the Ship Passion Pitt. My regards to the Lovely Linda.

Mike! Give my girlfriend Emilia a hug! Now. Altair. I love her name and I love that you (Mike) can still navigate by the stars. My niece just returned from a two-week sailing camp talking about 'Altair'. So cool. Honestly, your nav skills must be one of the reasons Emilia loves you. It really is quite romantic. Thinking of you two. When do you get to see Blue Lass? I wish I could join you!

EJ

Sara:

Hi, dear. So glad you liked the recap. Oh, Sara, I am so worried about our pure character Lolita. Horacio is slippery and scary. Gabino or Carmina will put the pressure on and who knows what he will do. Remember the Cap'ns recap where she said, "Run, Lolita, Run!'?
I do not wan't her heart to be broken!

Doris,

Thanks for your comments. Damian is cute, but he has just a couple of extra pounds, it's true. So glad you shared my take on icky Augusto and Elisa. I am sure you read my rant on the subject. How funny, you wanted it to be a dream. That would have been a great solution.

CathyX
What a lovely compliment! Thank you.

Oh no, it is not comfortable to be inside Horacio's head. Not at all. I imagine there is a lot more in there that is really dark. I am pretty sure we do not want to know about why his family is dead, for example, or why he is so slippery about where he used to live.

Dear JudyB:

You flatter me, amiga. I have no other pseudonym than Elna June, my birth name having, quite simply, too many letters for blogs post.No books, yet. Big smile.

I am glad you enjoyed the look inside the mind of Horacio. It is not comfortable but it is interesting, no? His back story popped in as easily as did that of 'Doris'over on El Tal. I found them to be fascinating characters, easy to run with. Let's catch up offline, shall we?
Abrazos.

EJ

Shame on me for not getting Poe. Can you tell I haven't read him in a while? The Tell-tale Heart always creeped me out, but I guess that is the point.

Marta, you are thinking of Thurston Howell III. Mr. Roper is from Three's Company.

Marta:

You take that cruise ship and run, run, run, girl.

Now before we talk recap. How are you? Are you dry? Are you in Florida? I have been worrying about you and your Mother for 24 hours. Isn't she right in the middle of these dreadful rainstorms?

Do let us know how you are, Marta. You are such a stoic and faithful recapper. We know you, m'dear. You could be recapping from a Red Cross Shelter or from a safe spot on top of a telephone pole with satellite Wi-Fi and we would never know until you apologized for not having time to go back and re-watch the episode. The weather channel needs you to do lead stories updating poor TN watchers around the world who might be missing their shows due to poor weather.

Abrazos,
EJ

EJ - Just had to take a chocolate and recap break from loading up the UHaul and what a delightful treat both were! Your take on Horacio was probably spot on. I have always considered him deeper than your average thug, but I still don't want Lolita to marry him.

Like Judy B brought up about him not showering, even the thought of her having to deal with his sweaty, stinky habaneros, when she is always so freshly scrubbed, just sickens me.

EJ - yes, that is my strappin' lad in the pic. He actually just got his PharmD and is off to do a Pharmacy Residency. Today is the day we are loading up, tomorrow we drive from SLC to Nebraska, then Friday get to KC. So...if anyone along the route sees a middle aged claustrophobic curly haired lady with her head hanging out the window of a UHaul, please honk and wave!

Mike - too funny about the out of work El Tal writer!

Sylvia & NM - Antonio = 4/4 and add digs up dead bodies: 5/5

R la O

Sylvia - did I just hear another Don Knotts sniffle as you wrote Mr. Roper?

Only Gael and Damian were shirtless. The other workers had enough sense to keep their skin protected from the sun. That water pouring was frustrating to someone like me who despises plastic water bottles. I couldn't enjoy the moment. Dangit. Hopefully, for my relaxed viewing pleasure, they'll be drinking out of Brita bottles for the arm wrestling scene.

We now know they use nice glassware on the set. Did you hear that lovely ring when Elisa accidentally clinked another glass?

I wonder if Gabino knows that Kenia is dead? Would Horacio have told him about moving her belongings?

RlaO:
I am SOOO happy for you and son PharmD La O. Wow. What a great time.
Congrats to all of you. I will be sending you kindest thoughts for a lessening of your claustrophobia as you travel through Nebraska to Kansas. Please be safe, all of you, and congratulations to all of you.

Glad you enjoyed the chocolate and the recap.

Abrazos, Amiga,

EJ

oh that's so sweet of you to think of me... i talked to my mom this morning on phone, her area is not really that close to sea level or near shore so she is ok for now.
as for me, i am not there yet, still in TX hotel... plan to leave friday and stay at MISSISSIPPI (Gulfport) friday nite and finish the trip sat... heard the I10 stretch around tallahassee is flooded in some places so i might have to detour.. we will see. the goal is to make it to moms' end of day saturday. so hopefully the water levels have come down by then.
thanks again! prayers are always welcome..
btw, daughter made it safe and sound from Japan, she loved it!!

Novela Maven, Antonio's hair was always way too greasy, and I remember a few times when he wore the same thing for what seemed like days. Of course he was usually on a bender at those times. Also, apologies to Gael and Damian and I love you both, but Tonio looked way hotter when shirtless. Too bad he was always so pithed off everything.

R la O, yep 5/5. If we start counting up Tonio's bad boy points we're going to be off the chart. I wonder how Aaron and Lola are doing? Have they self-ignited yet? Sorry to go off topic for a moment.

And yes you did hear a little sniffle for Don Knots. I loved his Mr. Furley.

OMG, R la O, you are so right about the plastic bottle! Shame on me because I am a fanatic for having one's own sport bottle. I must have envisioned Dam using my bright pink Zombie Runner bottle. (And no, I don't run, I just like the bottle.)

Have a great road trip amiga! We'll be thinking of you.

EJ, I had to LOL at the vision of Marta recapping from the Red Cross Shelter or the top of a power pole.

Sylvia,
Thurston Howell III... DUH!! (smaking self on head) how could I forget!!
so who would be our Gilligan? don't tell me ...Gael?!.. lol in the looks its more like Kike...

Marta, glad to hear you are still moving forward on your travels. And I'm really glad to hear about your daughter in Japan. How exciting for her.

I'm embarrassed that I know all these '60s and '70s sitcom characters so well. I'm pathetic. I can also sing the theme songs, sob.

These writers are some kind of crazy, kind of like your guys over there on LQNPA. Rohel has really lost it, NO? Lordy!

Well, Cynthia really lost it last night, and is making Rohell look perfectly sane at the moment. But we know that TN is really about the Life and Times of the Montero Crazies.

On my previous comment I forgot to mention how very much I enjoyed this bit:
o   A father when he thinks he isn’t.
o   Not a father when he thinks he is.
o   Not a cuckold when he thinks he is one.
o   A cuckold when he thinks he is not.

Very nice!

Audrey

Elna June, I'll peak out from under the lonely Augusto table (Sandy has run off with friends) to tell you that yes, "True." was a tipoff and by"For now, I am sick of my own secrets and it is starting to show in my health." I was certain. He might as well have called Lolita Lenore.

I adore Edgar Allan Poe and have read every single one of his short stories and poems... several times. I think Poe would understand Augusto's strange proclivities.

Carlos

Marta recapping from the Red Cross Shelter or the top of a power pole.

dejavu from Karate Kid II?
anyway, you know i would if i had to... can't stop recapping when i get on it... well, except for our abandoning the S.S. ElTal... it was just THAT bad.

I forgot to mention how very much I enjoyed this bit:
o A father when he thinks he isn’t.
o Not a father when he thinks he is.
o Not a cuckold when he thinks he is one.
o A cuckold when he thinks he is not.

Very nice!

ditto! i loved that list too.

R la O and Sylvia,
Of course I defer to your knowledge of the peri-apocalyptic Antonio. When I knew him in the early days, he was a balletic poseur and Marta (I believe) was still calling him "Old Spice Guy". If his hair was shiny, it was grease by choice, not by chance. 5/5 it is, then.

Just toying with numerology: Antonio 5/5, add it up "10" which is what he was if you combined his gratuitous shirtlessness with his non-greasy curls, AKA The HAIR.

Okay... back to the loading party. I will check in along the way to middle America, as reception permits.

Carlos, I'm with you in spirit! (If Augusto shows weird feelings for Elisa, I'm going to pull out my husband's shotgun and "accidentally" shoot him  myself!)

Haven't worked Orange- Ho into the conversation, but was able to use Alpha-bitch!  (Girlfriends worked on a volunteer project and encountered a tough Alfonsina or two along the way!)

Sandy,
i am with you, any more weird behavior or talk from AssHat and i will shoot him myself, even if i have to load the gun with habanero seeds.

That would put him up there with Atilio Montenegro and Federico Rivera. I may just get sick.

Ewww! I'm so dense I didn't even get ther pervy, Lolita-esque, Kenia-is-gone implications of Sr. Toad's suggestion.

*burp*

Not dense, Sara-- pure of heart and mind. Bless you m'dear, you haven't been corrupted yet by these steamy stories.

Aw. Aren't you sweet.

I so hope we are way off base with this though.

I am very much looking forward to Lolita's (the elder) wedding dress tonight.

If this wedding happens: I assume it will be in the church. This will guarantee Horacio an anvil, won't it. Otherwise, how else will Lolita end up with Braulio?

Sara
I love that such impure thoughts did not cross your mind. You are a gem, you are. P-yore and unsullied .

Do you really think Lo ends up with Braulio? What about the inconvenient fact of Antonia? I LOVE that you are such an unabashed romantic, even if you do have to kill off a an inconvenient spouse or two along the way. Big grin.

EJ

I LOVE that you are such an unabashed romantic
----
Ok. I admit it.

even if you do have to kill off a an inconvenient spouse or two along the way.
---
I'm not going to lie and it may get me kicked off the patio, but I still secretly harbor a hope that somehow Horacio makes good.

I don't know that Lola and Brau are "meant to be." I want Lola to have a happy ending. I don't think being a widow of a murderer...even a murderer that sacrificed himself to save ______ constitutes a happy enough ending for me.

having a real hard time getting to my yahoo mail so someone please blog this as wed nite's recap.

Abismo de Pasion # 76 June 27
part 1
Oh ‘happy day’! Or is it?… is there such a term in Elisa’s dictionary? … Real feelings come out in the open… seems some took another dose of truth/memory serum…
Alt title: Gael starts his way back to his old self… sort of.

Replays:
Alfie/Guido.. Guido impactado at how controlling Alfie is… (man, read between the lines and start running!! MOOOOVE!!!)

Augie/Carmeany… you are just angry, you are getting close to her to get back at me… guess again, if it suits you to believe that, go ahead... what bothers you is that I was unfaithful… what bothers me is you lied to me for so long (me viste la cara por tanto tiempo) … you are treating me like trash, what about you and Kenya?... the difference is we never got anywhere. For several reasons… for our marriage? … in part, but also for Estefania, the love I felt for her is as strong as the hatred and deception I feel now.

Lo Nuevo:
Augie/Carmeany (Cont’d).. And no matter how much you try, you will never top that. I would not be surprised you also boiked Rosie. no wonder you hated him, he exchanged you in the end for your sister. She was more discrete. I only found out about one lover of hers, unlike you… shut up!… you are the worst of ho__s and I must win the TOP IMBECILE of all men award, for having fallen in love with Stefie and then for marrying her sister, who turned out worse than her. But congrats, you surpassed Stefie in everything… except in the feelings she inspired in me (in how much ‘me movio el piso’).

Back to Arango cabins… Alfie impressed that Guido wanted to re-hire Paolo at procesa. Do as you want. I trust you completely…. Don’t know why you didn’t let Flo leave… I know what she means to you. … the fact you prevented Flo from leaving makes me feel like she and I are caught in Hotel California (like your prisoners (BINGO!!))… I don’t want you to feel obligated to be here in any way… I was not planning to leave you… (BAD CHOICE!) … thank you for being the friend I need…
(Inmundo and Quike arrive, not exactly in mood for joining a tea party)… Inmu wants to talk to Fina alone… she summons him to her office/study. .. what happened to you? … don’t fake it, my friendship with Augie was ruined because you butt-ed in my business… you deserve it for having boinked his wife, don’t you think?... maybe that is the same way you felt about your own husband and her(Carmeany), then you want to be my wife’s friend. I don’t appreciate you wanting to befriend my family and then backstabbing them. Neither you or Guido had reason to fire Kike. He won’t accept his severance pay. I will sue your rear end instead. … jaja! those lawsuits take long and are expensive. I would suggest you accept that money… I know my surname is not as powerful as yours, but what good is yours to you Alfie? My family has been able to remain together, how about yours? As soon as your son finds out about your ‘deeds’ he will leave you just like Rosie did (man, that deflated Botox Queen’s face)… get outahere!!!…

part 2
At Harango outdoor deck… Kike finds Flo alone and depressed…
What are you doin’ here?... for my disgrace I am still here for Lord knows how long… (poor man, I can see him smiling from the outside in.. fool!) the fact that you are here makes it worth it… you should not be with me, if Alfie finds out we will all be in trouble… your dad fired me from the procesa… (Inmundo comes out and barks at kike to follow him home)

At Castigo cabins…
Elisa looking at mommy/nanny’s picture. Paloma arrives for a visit… u crying? (no, really?? Lets see a show of hands, who is surprised??...) I found out Dam came to ask for your hand in marriage. You should be super happy. Why aren’t you? (Elisa cries even more). Looks more like this is a big issue for you, what is up?... please don’t tell anyone, but I have to tell someone or I will bust, and you are like my sis. (wait for it… wait for it… have to cry a couple more tears first before I tell the secret…) I can get my dad’s love but I have to chose between him and Damian. (sacrificial Martyr no. 1 of the evening)

At Harango cabins… Guido at Flo’s room. She asks him why fire Kike, he shrugs shoulders. After all those speeches/lectures, you sold yourself to Alfie too. Alfie did this to punish Kike for having related to me. She wants to keep him away from me while I am here… did you decide to stay for Kike?... why did you ask Alfie for so much money? Did you really lose all our money?... yup, we are flat broke, but I will get back up as I have always… I will please Alfie in everything she wants no matter how unhappy she makes me. Neither of us are made to live in misery. (sacrificial Martyr no. 2 of the evening)

Dam in room, Gael arrives. Gael much calmer now (Phew! Good start…) Gael apologizes for amulet, even if its maybe too late, but we are brothers and I don’t want us to be distant… That was your own doing. Ever since I arrived you have put that wall between us… well yes, It hurts that Elisa loves you and you love her. I am still processing that and even though this is no excuse, I only ask for time and patience. … I understand, and even if you don’t believe it, It hurts to see you like this. And about the amulet, don’t worry. I am so glad I got it back anyway!! … (happy hug)… be careful with Augie, I don’t think it will be so easy to get him to agree to let you marry his daughter. I don’t think he can change. I don’t blame you for being with Elisa, you never stole her from me, she was never meant for me anyway. .. (Gael happily kicks Dam out to go visit Elisa/Augie, but then sits down very sad puppy-ish)…
(here, here come to mama sweetheart, let me cuddle you. I can’t say my boobies are not as big but after 3 daughters, several step grandchildren and a grandson they are comfy…).

(CB 1)

part 3

Dam visits Lupe (or should I see flash Gordon dressed as Dam whips by Lupe)
Flash greeting/handshake…
What is up with your rushing around all the time? … please forgive me… let me speak to you a few min. why are you running around?... yesterday I asked for Elisa’s hand and Don Augie is giving me the answer today… (happy) now I get it! (hug) I am so glad Augie finally is putting his daughter’s happiness first in his priorities and putting aside the rencors of the past. But What are you still doing here? Go on!

At Casa Tov…
BegoneYa wants the 2 hour debriefing (as compared to the 2 minute version) of what happened with Alfie… Inmundo has to shut her up… she swears she will back him up no matter what he said… Inmundo questions Kike about his relationship with Flo having to do with him being fired. Course Not, it was more like he did not like the way I posed/smelled/walked/leaned (you fill in the blanks)…

Back to Castigo cabins with Elisa and Pal.
Pal sad for Elisa, does not want to see Elisa leave town. You are my only friend. I love you so much…. And I love you, but it is about my dad, you know how much he means to me… I know, if I had the chance to see my mom again or meet my dad, I would do same as you (is it me or are we getting too mellow here?)… remember you can’t talk to anyone about this, not even Gael… I won’t tell anyone, not even my grandma (you better control that tongue of yours, girl!!).. (door bell rings)… Pal opens, it is Dam. Hugs and kisses Elisa. Augie comes out of his study… summons Dam to the study. Elisa cries nervous.
‘Dam does not deserve it…’ .. (PLEEZE!!! SPARE ME YOUR TEARS!! U Should ask yourself WHY AM I DOING THIS TO HIM, TO MYSELF, TO EVERYONE AT LA ERMITA, TO OUR AUDIENCE (or whats left of it)!’ but hey… don’t look at me, don’t think I care that much about you and Dam anymore… sad to say,
I already said my final goodbyes to your table about 3 eps ago…)

In Castigo rec room… Dam/Augie
Still don’t have an answer for you, the request has to go to Congress, then approved by the FDA, the DAV and VET depts., then will need to give you a background check, just to make sure…… I don’t get what you have to think about so much. I am willing to do anything you ask to show you can trust me… I will put you to a test drive for a while… how long? All I want is for Elisa to marry me… I can’t accept yet that Elisa did fall for precisely the son of the man that hurt me so much… Elisa and I love each other (if you don’t mind me saying this Dam, your chances look bleak to me from this angle)… then you should be confident. I will trust you. I will trust that you won’t do anything crazy or steal her away. Show me you love her, show me you are going to play straight. During this time I expect you to respect Elisa… I assure you I am incapable of disrespecting her… please Dam, we are men, sometimes we lose our heads and break the moral barrier(thank goodness not all men are created equal, dumb a__, but then I digress.. .who knows how Dam will react to the Alfie/Flo/Paolo plan in the works). But I warn you, I get Elisa married in white or I don’t let her marry at all. Don’t pressure me. Do I count on you? (this whole plot is getting pretty pathetic. End of discussion)

part 4

Two weeks later…
The butchery locale is ready for opening. Looks pretty impressive from outside. Seems Gael and Dam have been doing volunteer work there. Gael with ponytail and all. White tees get a bit dirty when you do hard work, don’t they?.. Gael and Dam say they are both doing it for Dolores, they both care about her very much. But hurry up and get ready for the wedding… Horacio leaves, Gael asks Dam if Augie gave him an answer yet… not yet… if he is still giving you the runaround, I don’t think he will want you to be his son in law, you better get used to the idea he won’t let you marry Elisa.

At Harango deck kitchen, Braulio and Tona argue, seems Tona thinks Braulio is miffed about Lolita getting married. Tonita says maybe if you had been invited to the wedding and you saw her get married, I would then get back the man I married…. I promise I will be that man again… I love you so much… (another pathetic scene, but anyway… they hug, here comes Chente).. Brau mentions how happily surprised he is that Chente has straightened up with schooling and worked hard at procesa… Chente wants to be somebody in life, and not stay being a servant of the Arangos forever. (talk about spoiling the moment when your parents are trying to compliment your efforts of late) Tonita yells at him…

(CB 2)

Bridal cabins… Lolita in wedding gown!! Looks pretty with yellow accents… big flower on hair, lacy veil, lacy dress.. she does look lovely. Elisa compliments her looks. Hora will go mute when he sees you. (Elisa then gets sad). Lolita notices it. Elisa really wanted for this day to arrive. Can’t help feel sad, from here on things will change… Of course not, bonita. Everything will be same. We will always be together... you deserve to be happy with Horacio, have at least 3 kids… ARE YOU NUTs? Why so many?... Yes, many! Know why I want that? So you will never feel alone… but the way you say it sounds like you are saying good bye. I will stay here working while model husband (NOT!) mans the butcher shop. I am not leaving for good, don’t cry, otherwise I will never marry. You will be godmother of all my kids… yes… I will never get away from you bonita, you have been like my daughter. Don’t cry. (oh come on Lolita, give up asking her that, please!, it is part of her nature! Elisa would not be Elisa if she were not sacrificing and crying!!)

Bridal deck foyer: Lucio/Augie
Luc: I am grateful you will give Lolita at the altar… she has been like a second mom for Elisa / I know, all my life I will be grateful to Lolita for it. / when are you two leaving?/ Tomorrow/ This town will go dry without Elisa (NO KIDDIN!!! Waterworks will suffer a dip in production volume BIG TIME!!). I christened her. Why don’t you postpone your trip? Haven’t even found a buyer for your lands or the house / It is hard to find a buyer, the few offers have been too low. / Yes, you can’t give them away too cheap, they are worth too much. / I can’t wait any longer (let me finish that sentence… stte of ‘to ruin our lives for good’).

part 5
At deck chapel, Padre is doing the last touches to the flowers… Alfie comes in. Loopy surprised to see her… Its been weeks since Dam left the hacienda, and he has not come by or tried to contact me. How is my son? .. / Not sure what you want me to say. Dam is at peace away from you. / Doesn’t he ask about his mother?? about my health? / he knows you are ok. / no I am not ok God Darn it!! The cardiologist said my b. p. is worse everyday. I pray God will let me live until Dam reconsiders and returns home to me. / when are you going to leave your pride/arrogance (soberbia) aside? It is not Dam but YOU who have to recognize all the mistakes you yourself have made, against your own son! / (enough!.. she runs out, not really wanting to hear her own conscience)

(CB 3)

Lolita so nervous.. so happy though… looks in mirror and remembers Braulio, when he proposed to her…
Carmina comes in, tries to mudd-in Lolita’s grand day.. offers her faked greeting/congratulations… Lolita fires back; since you never made it to the alter with Augie, who knows how you are feeling right about now… don’t worry, I don’t envy you, all that ceremony stuff is not my style. You will marry the man you really deserve. (ouch!! We all know the double/triple/quad meaning of that) And well, lets go… Whoa there!! of course not, you are not invited, you are not catholic, what would you go there for??… what do you mean what am I coming for? you think I will try to ruin your day? Nah, You know me. Congratulations. You look MAAAHHHVELOUS!! (Lolita stays there, not really sure what to think of this scene)… Augie comes in, in a beige suit.. says he is willing to go drag Horacio to the altar by his tie if he has weak knees… Lolita thanks him and warns him Carmeany invited herself to the ceremony, ‘she does not care for me and I am afraid what she is up to … I will control her, don’t worry’. … thank you Don Augie. And you don’t know what it means to me that I will be you to walk me to the altar. … it is my pleasure… at least this way you will practice for when the moment comes for your daughter with young Damian. I promise you there is no man who loves her as much as him… of course, ME!! her dad! (turns to Elisa… and audience wonders how long this one moment will last) Noone will love you like me… (As he leaves to get the car ready Elisa tries to smile but she feels like crying.. oh-no girl, spare me and spare Lolita please!!)… So glad for you that your dad has changed so much, reminds me of when you were little and he was so nice with you… it seems he is still making a huge effort to behave this way with me… he loves you… yes, and the most important part is that I got him back, and I won’t lose him again for anything in the world. (and some day you will question yourself as to whether it was all worth it… NOT!!)

part 6
At café/Rincon cerca del cielo, Dam, Brau and Gael are chatting at table, Brau agrees with Gael that Augie does not seem willing to hand over Elisa. Brau admits that he would like to be able to take the woman he loves and run away with her. Dam and Gael ask him to get serious, Brau can’t abandon his family like Dam’s dad did. Brau says now he understands Don Rosie, he did have co___es. Unlike me, I could not do that.
The waiter comes and brings something, sorry I missed who he was talking to when he said (they left this for you!) Gael miffed so it must have been something for Dam.

(CB 4)

Back at Castigo cabins… Carmina touching-up (ok, putting makeup on, stop thinking trashy on me now) to go to the wedding. Augie comes to ask why go to the wedding. She wants to attend to make it appear they are a stable marriage (WHO THE HECK ARE THEY KIDDIN??). … no sh__, people would understand if you don’t go. They know you are not catholic. Everyone knows you don’t like Lolita. Noone would miss you. stop the hypocrisy… hypocrisy? What is it called what you are doing with Elisa? You are playing the loving dad with her but we know you don’t love her. She is the bastard child of Rosie’s.. (he gets miffed and leaves)

At church gate, Gabin and Horacio.. with that look people would think you are decent and not the filth you are. What would people say if the Campeche police came looking for you? instead of wedding bells you would hear the sirens of the cops coming after you… it is not good for you to talk, I would take you down with me… I am not a runaway like you… you know what I mean, that woman lost her life because you ordered me to do a job… I did not order anything, you murdered Blanca. Careful how you talk to me. I own you. If you don’t want to end up locked during your honeymoon, let me remind you, you work for me!
Just then, Loopy comes to rescue Hora… he can read Gabino’s presence as nothing good. Loopy tells Gab ‘We have to talk… SERIOUSLY.

Lolita comes in in Augie’s pickup with Lucio and Elisa. Augie and Lucio leave Lolita and Elisa in truck while they check that Loopy has everything ready. Brau comes by to Lolita’s window in the truck. Brau congrats Lolita on how pretty she is. “Horacio is taking a great woman, you don’t know how much I envy him. Years ago I would have been the man marrying you.” … you left me and you forgot me… “no, I never forgot you. in all these years not a night has gone by in which I did not think of you, remembered the taste of your lips, the smell of your skin. I still love you. (awkward look on Lolita’s face)
(and we leave it there)

Prev:
Wedding ceremony begins with the party entrance, Gael and Paloma, Dam and Elisa…
Loopy: …If anyone has an impediment…
(er… Carmina walks in… voiceover: …a word from her and the wedding is… terminated!.. she makes it halfway up to the alter and stops…)
Loopy asks: do you have something to say?

OMG Marta, are you doing this from the top of a telephone pole? EJ wasn't kidding about you!

I'll post this for you now.
