Abismo de pasión #88 7/13/12: If Whuppin' A$$ Was an Olympic Sport, Agosto Brought Home the Gold-Which Will Be Awarded Posthumously, Of Course.
Labels: abismo
So Asshat is no more. Strangely indifferent I'm afraid. I mean we knew it was coming, but so did we with Kenia, and I still teared up when Carmina did her in. Maybe it was Asshat's marathon of trying to do whatever it was he was trying to do with Carmina. Babbling about ruining her reputation when you're doing your utmost to kill her, man couldn't do anything right.
Carmina may be a lying, manipulating ( and we know murderous) nutjob, but being Asshat didn't know about her killing Kenia, I found it rather upsetting how violent he got with her. That all went on entirely too long for me.
So now Horacio's is digging his hole deeper. Talk about a guy who is always in the wrong place at the wrong time. He always starts wanting to do the right thing, but his past is never going to let him find that life he wants. Alas, Horacio, we knew him well. (Another one who won't make it to the end of this thing.)
Ok, I admit, I've hated the character of Irritating from the moment she brought her badly dressed body and tendrils to La Ermita. But this woman needs to go, and very soon. She is not only jacking Gael around ( and frankly, I wasn't sorry Lupe told her off), but now she's going to make a play for our Doc. I am hopeful that smile and slight shake of his head after her inappropriate kiss was more like " oh brother, that was silly". If the writers have him taken in by ANOTHER town b****, and heck he's still married to one of the most worthless of the town females, I'll lose it. What did this guy do to deserve the writer's loathing. Argh!!
Loved seeing the kiddies again during the Gael/Dam Stoopid moments. And their scene was sweet too.
Now we know what Ramona really is. She's one of the last of the Jedi's. I mean, shades of Obi-Wan, feeling the death of another being. Fascinating.
Well, I guess we brace for Monday--let the Weepsa #1 and company wailing begin. My head is hurting at the thought.
Some of my faves:
"What chick who loves pastels would decorate her room with taxidermy?" Never noticed that poor stuffed bird but will have to take a gander (no pun intended) next time.
"Please turn in your pimp card at the corporate office." Oh Lordy, you were at the funniest castigating Gabino for his pimp code failures. I must say he always seems to bring out the best in you.
And Witch Mountain...great tag for Ramona's hut. Wish she would be a little more forthcoming and a little less portentous but that will never happen. Clearly Elisa will now allow Carmaniac to stay in the hacienda. Ugh.
Thanks too for the Steve Martin quote. Always appreciated.
Well, I knew once Augusto asked Estefania for forgiveness that he was good to go. All his earthly duties were wrapped up...reconciliation with daughter, amends duly made, and now the highway to heaven (provided someone with a little juice intercedes for him).
Tough moments for me: Seeing Dr. Co-Dependent fall for another treacherous female. Begoñia is a ditz, but I'm not sure she deserves two betrayals back to back.
Second tough moment: Watching that physical tussle between Augusto and Carmina, simply because I know about the actresses' illness and I kept thinking that couldn't have been good for her ailing body. Gotta give Sabine props for her work ethic.
Third tough moment: Like you, I was appalled at Padre Lupe's tirade at the gravesite. Neither the time nor the place. Por favor! Okay, he's not perfect. He's human. But.....
On the flip side: What a practical and resourceful gal is our Ingrid! A little from Gael, a little from Gabino, and now about to score big with the doc. Man, this lady knows how to land on her feet. And in retrospect, while I thought her grief at Kenia's death was very well acted, turns out it was ACTED. Ingrid was just setting up her next chump by acting the grief-stricken mother with Tovar. Very astute. Very forward-thinking. This lady has a real survivor IQ.
All in all, an exciting episode and, as always, a wonderfully funny recap. You do "world weary and wry" very well.
Now that the Augusto Support Group table is officially over, I have two observations, (1) Wearing a paper bag on your head is good, you never have to do your hair and makeup. (2) Wearing a paper bag on your head is bad, you can’t talk and drink with your table mate! Cynderella, I agree with you, the shooting looked like justifiable homicide to me too!
Father Lupe has had enough of holding in his feeling, he was really letting “Singrid” have it during the service. That’s the thing about novelas, you are never really satisfied with the comeuppances, II had it coming, but not during the service......please.
Judy, I worried about Sabine’s illness as well!
Is there any room at the bingo table? No more novela character tables for me....ever!
Has anyone nominated Ms. Moussier for an Oscar or it's equivalent yet?
1. She was screwing Rosendo.
2. His wife died "because of her".
3. She lied and told him that his child was not his AND reminded him of this constantly. Anyone would believe your spouses sibling. Why would a sibling lie?
4. Because of her, he abused his child and sometimes allowed her to abuse his child.
5. Because her of, he went to jail for attempted murder.
6. Because of her, his daughter might lose her land.
7. He believed that "his son" died.
8. He became an alcoholic.
9. She had an affair with his best friend.
10. She falsified the DNA documentation.
Again, I think that he deserved to be shot; however, I truly understand why he went beyond the call of duty.
One more thing- a plea to incredibly stupid L’il Miss Chiles. Now that her mother’s picture has miraculously survived, she needs to go to kinko’s and make some copies!! This should have been done when she first got it. It has been bugging me for weeks, but I know it is so that, when it is destroyed/damaged, Elisa can cry and play the victim again. Another character that is hard to like!
Mod Ant
This was quite a brutal episode for me to watch. A lot of you had the same reactions that I did.
I was disturbed by Padre Loopy chewing out Ingrid AT THE CEMETERY! of all places. There is a time and a place for this and the burial was not it. First time I am truly disappointed in PadLoop.
The level of violence with which Augusto beat Carmina was disturbing to me. While watching, I knew he could easily cross an invisible line and kill her. As much as I despise Carmina, she shot him in self defense. Violence is a choice. (you can tell I answered crisis lines at a battered women's shelter for years!) Maybe he simply snapped, and went mental (or postal) in that moment.
From a production standpoint, it was an interesting fight to watch. "Carmina" is still limping, so that had to work around Moussier's lingering injury *and* her hair extensions. He had to grab her hair very carefully. I kept watching for a handful of extensions to come out.
So what is Edmundo going to say when Carmina moves into his house at Begonia's invitation? This should be interesting…
Seriously, my fellow residents of Viewerville, how does Paolo think he's going to get Sabrina away from her family and make the baby magically disappear? Even if they never tell her parents she is preggers, they'll want to visit her, etc. Seems like the monkey writers have commandeered Telerisa's workrooms again.
Why on earth hasn't Carmina hired a good divorce attorney? Even in a bad divorce settlement, she would get a share of the assets, right? Oh, wait, this is a telenovela…..
That Ramona knew the moment Agosto was killed interesting it was. If she has "The Sight" or ESP, I've always wondered. Our "yoda" she is.
Also disturbing was that little smile of Doc Tovar's, after Ingrid kissed him.
I completely agree that Singrid has got to go. She has outlived her usefulness here and she is of no value to Gael or the story. Maybe Gabino will kill her during sex.
If Edmundo figures out that Sabina is embarazada he won't let her leave town. Paolo would have to figure out how to shanghai her out of town.
Ii can't see Florencia's little scheme working if that is not possible.
Now off to enjoy Cynder's recap.....
I don't know what happened to poor Padre to allow him to act so inappropriately at a funeral but I'm horrified with Horacio's actions. He knows the Orange-ho is crazy, he repeatedly threatened to expose him, and has killed before. But he gave her back the GUN and trusts her to not cross him. And he's a bad guy; shouldn't he have more sense?
And Dr. Tovar - as Cyn noted he's a magnet for psycho chicks. While II is a survivor/con artist, poor Ed needs help.
1. Dr. Tovar has Cap'n Save A Ho complex
2. Augusto learned he's been a dumb @$$ for the past 15 years blaming and hating Estefania when he should have been blaming & hating Carmina
3. Also, he learned he was NOT the father
4. Ingrid learned she has a new mark in town
5. Augusto learned what Damian felt like a few weeks earlier, and then some
6. Carmina learned what an a$$-whipping feels like
------------------------
Carmina really doesn't need to move into Begoña's house now. If anyone will need to move, it will be ELISA who has to pack up and go, not Carmina.
Carmina is now Augusto's widow and as such will surely inherit Cielo Abierto and the quinta (or at least have to split it with Elisa). I can see Carmina telling Elisa to get the hell up out of her house.
Plus, I don't think Augusto signed the for sale documents over to Gabino and I doubt seriously Carmina will do it now.
I can see Gabino using the Cielo Abierto money Alfonsina gave him to buy that other house instead.
Doris: What I got a little distrubed about was Paolo wanting Sabrina to go with him to Merida. And making sure noone knows. Heaven help us, is he planning on making her captive there until the baby is born?? I think my head went there because there's a similiar plot going on in daytime TV that someone at work watches. He wouldn't go that far...would he?
Well Augusto fans, he was severely flawed but at least he threw off this mortal coil without once committing incest or child-rape. He made up with his daughter, begged forgiveness from the innocent Steffy, and made his peace with God.
Let us hoist the Tequila bottles that he didn't smash up as we drink one last toast to our favorite much misunderstood shaggy squinter. No more will we have to ask ourselves, "Paper or plastic?" He will be missed.

I will admit that I was surprised by Augusto's death. I never thought that would happen. Now I'm worried for Ramona.
Doc, Doc, don't go there. She's trouble, but I guess he likes the bad girls. I hope Ingrid doesn't let up on trying to nail Carmina.
Am I the only one who can't wait until Damian finds out he's not related to Elisa? Maybe Flo will be 3 for 3 in the 'left at the wedding shower.'
Of course my fav:
See what happens when you don’t follow the pimp code/manual? Your woman gets out of line and talks too much….Gabby, please turn in your pimp card to the corporate office immediately, if not sooner. You don’t deserve it.
More of my favs:
I bet his office looks and smells like Times Square on New Year’s Day.
I believe the family Ingrid referred to as responsible for Kenya’s death are the Castanon.
I too was taken a bit aback at Padre Loopy’s bashing II at the gravesite in front of Gael. And felt Gael was right in trying to stop Padre by squeezing his shoulder, not the time or place to do that, even if Loopy is right. Esp when Loopy kept saying ‘And MI GAEL knows that!’.. if you are going to bash her, leave Gael out of it… don’t speak for him.
Damien and Gael at the gravesite. Damian came telling Gael that his presence and his hug at his father’s funeral made all the difference for him and he was there to do the same for Gael so he was thanking Padre Loopy for letting him know. I believe Gael is the one with the memory of the funeral once Damian told him this, and Gael with tears in his eyes accepts the hug from Damian at that time.
Did II really say this? If so, thanks! I missed the bank statement references…
She realizes he’s a very busy man and asks to see his bank statements. You must make a lot of money, says the Gold or Grave Digger…
He touches his mouth and smiles. This man is a diabolically insane chick magnet.
And at the Castanon house… here are my fav lines of your mahvelous descriptions…
Carmina …wants to know why she’s been slapped. Where should I start? There’s so many reasons… Oh, she wasn’t talking to me. Agosto tells her that she’s busted and the jig is up.
Ding Ding! He does a couple of quick stretches, cracks his neck, grabs her hair again and slams her into a wall.
“You are going to take this whuppin like a man!”
Just what we were waiting for…another crotch shot.
Geez, I really wish she would quit squirming and let him get her well-deserved murder over with.
He throws her to the ground, but he didn’t think the logistics through.
Well, this just may prove to be the last psychotic chick that Agosto ever beats up.
She pulls the trigger and kills him. Well, I hate to say it, but he had it coming for whuppin’ her like it was an Olympic sport.
Ita with the carmina/asshat scene being too long and silly, like you said, this guy can’t even do THAT right.
Also ITA on
Loved seeing the kiddies again during the Gael/Dam Stoopid moments. And their scene was sweet too.
I too thought of Obi-Wan and Jedis when Ramona had her chest pains when AssHat died.
Also on the II and Dr Tovar scene… ita that the writers are being really unfair to his character.
Anon207, ROFLOL on no. 3.. learned he was NOT the father (Maury moment?)
Yes, last night's three shows on Uni were filled with disturbing violence. I am holding out hope that Vicky in Refugio made it out alive, unlike Augie and Effer (LQNPA).
I think Doc Tpvar and his son Quique are just alike. They can't resist a damsel in distress. Remember, it was Carmina playing the helpless victime card that snagged him, not her sexy moves. Quique fell for Flor the same way. I have hope that the good Doc has learned from his mistakes and won't let things with Ingrid take a romantic turn. Otherwise, I blame the writers.

This is sidebar material!!
What a masterful recap of a doozie of an episode!! Thank you, Cyn!!
I do not condone violence, but I will admit (and risk a Teresa style shunning) that it did my black heart good to see Cheat-ho get slapped around a bit.
Marta, Ingrid does not asks to see the bank statements, but since she's a gold digger, I simply said what she was thinking.
Thanks for the list Anon207
Carlos, I will miss Agosto too. Mainly because Elisa is about to have a monumental sobfest. Luckily, I'm not up again for 5 days and she should be dried up by then.
Wow, between this and LQNPA, I am really annoyed at the vilanas currently. I guess they are doing their job.
;o)

Yeah. I'm looking forward to Monday. I don't drink... But I'm thinking about it.
She shortened the life of her sister, Estefania, and then ruined her reputation.
She killed Augusto and now plans to destroy his reputation.
Rosendo didn't really want to leave his family, she made him.
She used Paulo, an impossible feat, and threw him away.
The married Dr. Tovar couldn't resist her "charms."
Horacio, the murderer, is afraid of her.
Gabino, a murder co-conspirator, can't conquer her.
She killed Kenia and will pin the blame on Augusto.
Anything I've forgotten? Of course, this just the big stuff, she has stolen, tampered with or lied to everyone in town!
I'm sick of her and ready for her to be gone!!!
BTW, I have the weekend discussions tagged with "weekend" so you can find past ones more easily. The only one that doesn't come up this weekend is the first one with all the great shirtless photos of our favorite men.
---
I was just talking to hubs about that today (we go out walking...I yammer and he makes random sounds that make it appear he's listening lol.) I felt very bad for ToadHead Thursday/Friday. Finding out after all these years how wrong, wrong, wrong he had been.
I really wish he had made it to the end of this show. He didn't get nearly enough time to REALLY start making up for his crimes.
It also annoys me to bits that not only does Carmina get to keep living and spreading poison, but she will get to do it at the quinta (which she will surely inherit.) Karmageddon better be particularly harsh for her.
"It also annoys me to bits that not only does Carmina get to keep living and spreading poison, but she will get to do it at the quinta (which she will surely inherit.) Karmageddon better be particularly harsh for her." That is just how I feel, Augusto made mistakes, but Carmina's sins dwarf his, and she has won yet again, he's dead, and she's in control.
---
One of the reasons I had to bail on LQNPA was that Vainy and Sin were running around spreading poison and there was never any sort of consequence. I know that REAL consequence comes at the end, but it's nice if every one and a while the antagonist hits a brick wall.
So while Augusto's attack on Carmina was not her ultimate punishment, at least I got some satisfaction until the real comeuppance happens.
Another example (for me) are the numerous scenes when Dam stands up to Alfonsina. Not her ultimate "punishment", but I get a little satisfaction that she can't freely spread her poison.
Am I making sense?
Speaking of Fina...is she one of our redeemable characters?
"It also annoys me to bits that not only does Carmina get to keep living and spreading poison..."
This is why I (and the rest of the world) love telenovelas; because the baddies get their due 99.9% of the time. In real life, not so much. Many ... most ... of the baddies continue to make the lives of their "loved ones" a living hell. I have a family member like this.
While these people usually don't commit out-right murder, they do it in a longer, more subtle and not-readily-visible manner, by murder/destruction of spirit, sanity, relationships, and family structure.
I think first thing in the a.m. is not the best time to watch wife-beating, husband shooting and blood spattering, gah. I guess it's also too early to pour myself a shot of mescal to celebrate Augusto's demise. I hope I don't have to see his ugly mug in too many flashbacks. I cringed for Sabine Moussier during the beating scene; she was very believable.
All my favorite lines have been mentioned so I'll just say again how much I enjoyed the recap. Only our Cynderella could make wife-beating an olympic sport, retract someone's pimp licence, and turn such dreadful happenings into pure comic genius.
Oh no, if they make Augusto's death look like suicide just think how Elisa will wail. I don't think I can take it. I guess CSI La Ermita is too much to hope for?
Thanks Cynderella! You rocked with this one.
I am obsessed with true crime, especially when lovers or spouses kill. I love shows like Snapped, American Justice and anything on the ID channel. OK, I'm rambling, but here goes my theory.
I think that most people are hurt when they hear of that their lover has been deceptive. They can deal with that, if it were only that. What makes them crazy enough to kill or become violent is the mental torture that has been inflicted up them. When I watch all of these "true crime" television shows, they seem to have common themes.
1. The killer suspects the cheater has been unfaithful (or deceptive....you fill in the blank). But the deceptive spouse denies everything and makes the killer feel crazy. The killer goes around thinking that they are in the wrong for feeling the way they do. They feel paranoid or guilty for not trusting the other person.
2. Then when the killer gets absolute proof that the lover is being deceptive, the lover does not immediately apologize and admit any fault. The lover blames the killer for their actions. Carmina blamed her actions on Agosto. She cheated on him, and lied about his "kids" (dead baby and Elisa), and smeared Saint Estefania reputation because he loved Estefania more than her. They try to take on the roll of the victim.
3. Then the lover continues to torture the killer until they snap. For instance, he beat her butt last week and told her to leave. She doesn't leave, she hangs around a little longer. She comes into his office because she has more to say. She goes to his bedroom. It's like they have no sense of shame. They don't realized how far they have pushed the person.
Real life examples are like the dentist who ran her husband over in the parking lot after he had taken his lover to the same hotel where he and his wife had their wedding reception. When the wife found out about it, he told her she needed to lose weight and plastic surgery. She tries to comply, but still she finds him cheating on her at her wedding reception venue like there were no other hotels in that town.
Another one is Betty Broderick. Yeah, she was insane, but she had four kids and put him through law school and medical school. As soon as he gets rich (off of her back), she dumps her for her younger twin...his secretary. The secretary sends Betty weight loss materials in the mail.
And did anyone read the articles written about Senator John Edwards trial testimony. OMGosh! If Elizabeth became violent, that would have been understandable.
Sorry, I'm on a soap box, but I don't agree with murder, but sometimes, people "ask" to die. Does that make sense?
Anonymous, that is an interesting theory.
Sorry to be so late to the party. Just returned from a weekend away for a funeral.
Cynderella, you have written some fine recaps, but this was your best ever, and it was a wild episode. I am so glad you got this episode to recap and only you could have done it justice. Brilliant. This is just a terriffic piece of writing, Cynderella la Novia de Gabino Mendoza.
Thanks from one of your admiring fans and colleagues,
Elna June
Hahahahahahahaha. You crack me up. (My head is so hot that I can't remember if I already posted this comment.)
Sara:
<>
Why am I picturing Damian showing up at the funeral, with a cross slung over each shoulder? (Then pouring bottled water on his head to cool down -- which, if I remember correctly, is how he spent his time in Elisa's greenhouses.)
Maybe this'll be his new *thing* . . . he's the guy who shows up with a headstone, like the dude who always brings dip to the party.
And speaking of Kenia's funeral, Dr. Tovar arrives late wearing PLAID (who wears plaid to a funeral? Let's put this cast on Plaid Probation right now) and then picks up the mother of the deceased. WTF?
---
Oh this is comment GOLD!!!
Am I the only one who thought "Heavy symbolism: Dam comes bearing his cross..."?
I Wish.....I’d Done a Lot of Things Different
And yeah, I agree with you all that hitting on someone at a funeral.... while wearing plaid..... while married.... is tacky to the nth degree. Miss Manners would blow a gasket.
It was disturbing that El Doctor didn't wait a bit to pick up Ingrid, but for some reason, that didn't bother me as much as the disrespect of wearing a PLAID SHIRT and Western-wear jeans with decorative pocket stitching. I almost levitated off the couch at that point. Plus, Ingrid kept sticking her nose into that bouquet of what looked like Stop 'n' Shop daisies, which as far as I know are not fragrant.
And, Sara, the symbolism of Damian bearing his own cross didn't occur to me until you mentioned it. Good catch!
