Refugio Para el Amor #72 Mon 7/16/12 Stepford Wife Rosa Will Not Be Moved From Her Happy Place, but Paz Takes Away the Last of Rod’s Peace of Mind
R: I love her a lot Doña Paz.
P: You love her?! Well, I don’t believe it. No, I don’t believe it, and it hurts me a lot Rodrigo. Because I believed in you-- your promises. In spite of knowing that your mother didn’t like her!
R: Doña Paz, you can’t image how much this situation hurts me.
P: Well just imagine how much it hurts me. You can’t imagine the sadness I feel seeing my Luciana like this. Because you married my little girl Rodrigo. And all of this *love* that you promised, just ended, just like that?! That is called deception, sir! Deception!
R: The only thing I can say to you Doña Paz is that I’m going to love Luci all my life.
P: Well, hopefully SHE won’t (love you forever). Hopefully she’ll forget about you quickly. Hopefully she’ll forget the happiness that you promised her, and that you didn’t deliver! What sadness you bring me Rodrigo! Because you have never had, nor will you ever have, a woman as worthy/valuable as my Luciana. You! You didn’t know how to appreciate her.
R: Doña Paz, I offer you an apology. The last thing I wanted to do was harm Luci, and you. (He reaches for her arm and she looks at his hand like he’s a leper.) You don’t know how much I regret this situation. And believe one thing—this morning I separated from her, loving her profoundly.
P: Luciana, don’t scare me daughter.
M: My goodness! What happened Luciana?
P: But daughter! How did you end up in a place like that?
M: Who took you there Luciana? (If only she knew…)
L: That’s not important Magda. I didn’t even go there to work as a waitress. I went to be a bathroom attendant, but…
P: But? But what daughter?

Yes, BSC Rosa is in her happy place, too bad it is not in a manicomio.
Watching the scene with Max and Vicky, I wanted to throw a shoe at him and tell him he had the wrong one locked up, it should have been BSC Rosa.
Pato is the best!
I really cheered when one by one everyone left BSC Rosa's celebration.
Paz needs to pack her children up and head to Het Het. I have to admire Paz, she is going to give everyone a piece of her mind before she catches the bus out of town.
I do hope that Paz and Claudio can become friends. She did a great job with Luci and I am sure Claudio has no intention of taking Luci from Paz. Paz will always be her mother.
Rosemary Primera
Just a little too close for comfort and I'm glad everyone walked out on her.
Both Rosa and Max gave me the creeps tonight. Those two are made for each other.
I felt so sad for Vicky. I felt her fear and her helplessness, both when she was cuffed to the bed, and when she fell into her father's arms trembling and crying. She is paying dearly for a dumb young person mistake.
I am also really glad that everyone left Rosa at the table, led by Pato (my hero).
She was in high form this evening, so creepy. And totally unaware of the feelings of those around her. She is totally deranged, she thinks it's over, but we in Viewerville, know it's only begun for her. I can't wait for Paz to confront her sorry butt.
I am glad the family abandoned her at the dinner, Served her right. Even Aldo who looked way creeped out. I hope they catch Frigid soon, passing all she knows about the family to Julie and Gagme. I hope she gets the same firing they gave Luci. Loved what you said about chilling that wine with her hands lol.
Good for Paz giving it to Rod. He so deserved it. I don't understand what he thinks love is. When you love someone you listen to them and not an embittered ex who you left at the altar, or her money hungry mother, or your deranged mama, even though you love that Mama. What an idiot he is. He really needs to get his head on straight. But that will take a long time.
I liked what you said about Paz having to sit everytime she gets bad news, lol. It is best for her. I am glad that Lorenzo is out of the hoosegow and back with Paz. Paz looked really scared when she met Claudio and that look between Magda and Paz. Maybe Paz will finally tell Luci the truth, now that she knows that Luci has a sort of relationship with Claudio. I dont' think Claudio will blame Paz either, but look out Rosa. I hope he throws her in jail.
Poor Luci having to show that magazine to her Mama. The fur will fly tomorrow. I wonder when Magda and Paz see the picture in the middle of that magazine, if they will recognize Vio too? Magda will be really upset too.
Love Copio's new "luke" lol. He looks so dignified and loved what he did with the flowers. Don A misses him I think. I bet he tries to get him back to work for him.
Paz is about to burst. She going to tell someone the truth soon. I don't think it will be long before either Luci or Claudio knows.
We've had a recurring theme of kids getting into real, serious trouble and keeping it from their parents to protect them from the pain/grief-- Luci/Lor and Paz; Vio and Magda; Vicky and Jero. Jero will probably have a heart attack the day he learns Victoria's secret.
I hope if Pato recovers and finds Luci, she ends up with him. Rod is dead to me. Let him remain w/Gala and her crew since he believed them over HIS wife.
Yes, Max and Rosa were made for one another. Cuffing Vicky to the bed and calling it a game. Oh no. Their children are going to be horrified when all this stuff comes to light.
I hope somebody tells Padre Honesto about this dinner. I'm surprised Roselena didn't invite him.
I really liked your title - "...but Paz takes away the last of Rod's Peace of Mind". I'm so happy that someone (besides Pato) had the courage and strength to tell Rod what an utter fool he is being.
I laughed out loud at: "Frigida...tells Mati that she will take care of chilling the wine. (All she has to do is put her hands on the bottle.)" Wonderful!
Anon: "Yes, BSC Rosa is in her happy place, too bad it is not in a manicomio" also had me chuckling.
I was also happy that everyone left Rosa's "celebration". She is so delusional and pathetic.
Aside from Lorenzo's release, there is just nothing joyous taking place here. Max has now secured a place in hell, I don't care how loving a father he is.
UA, Laura Flores was also "bad to the bone" in Guapos. If you ever have the chance to see it, I recommend it. I won't spoil the end but she is an amazing actress. She also played Eduardo Yanez' mother in CS, her death scene is one I will always remember.
Vivi, thank you again for your constant care and attention.
Diana
I forgot to comment about the wine chilling line, but that was classic and one for the sidebar.
I have now seen Laura Flores play the good, long suffering woman (ENDA, CS09), a villain (Guapos, Refugio), and a loopy comedic character (Llena, Familia). She is great in every role. The woman is talented. I so hate Rosa. But I what I hate most is that everyone lets her get away with her crap-- especially Max, Mati and Connie. Even the Padre. He and Connie threaten to tell Claudio the truth, but then don't.
Like the rest of you, I just loved Pato this episode and so wished that there was hope for him and Luci. But Luci is a one man kind of girl, and I don't think the writers would do that to Gab Soto again.
Karen- ITA. The Torreslanda kids will be devasted when they find out the kind of monsters their parents really are.
I now am firmly convinced Rosa has gone bonkers. They craziness she exuded before was based on fear and a sort of reality that she was in big trouble for what she had done...now she's in some sort of LALALand where she is convinced everything is fine and everyone will join her going down the yellow brick road. Loved how everyone just left her alone, but it just didn't faze her. Yeah, she's passed through to Looneyville for sure.
"(All she has to do is put her hands on the bottle.) " This was brilliant.
Max drives me insane. I don't care how much he loves his kids, but how he manipulates everyone else, what he did to Vicky, just sick. And Aldo, poor slob has no idea what he just got handed to him. New job my eye.
Paz was a down-right lionness with Rod last night. (And by the previews, again tonight). Do not mess with her kids!!! But lord, Rod has got to be one of the dimmest galans ever. He treats Luci like crud, never really tries to make amends except for manhandling her into a kiss, and then is swearing to everyone he will love her always, boohoohoo. I have a hard time feeling bad for him. Pato has motivation to get better so he can find Luci---I say go for it!!
Gala and gals, how fun it must be to go out bar-hopping WITH YOUR MOTHER! And then she's the one that hits on the guy and gets him. Julie never ceases to amaze, and not in a good way.
Are the advances screwing us again? I can't imagine that Rosa would be bothered to even let the three Amigas past the gate, let alone give us what we want...a show down between Paz and the crazy lady that is probably related to the Monteros.
Awesome recap.
So I guess we all assume that Luci knows exactly what love is, and that it involves something about a woman always being unconditionally worshipped just because she is wonderful "just the way you are" so to speak, and that witholding information just long enough for circumstances to develop favorably along the lines of her wishes/hopes, and then being mortally offended when the truth comes out and she has to explain herself -- these are all just part of true love? Yes, Rodrigo may have overreacted a little. But why, in a society (the one depicted in this fictional drama) where working in a place like the Infierno (but not going there with your fiance and friends for a night out -- although I seem to recall Rodrigo was against it) is considered a mortal sin by everyone from the bottom to the top of society -- why should Luci not expect some sort of reaction? Her mother is about to get the vapors again over it -- why is it ok for mama to see it as a serious misjudgment by Luci but her husband is supposed to overlook everything -- especially the convenient witholding of information -- because of "love"? And why, reasonably expecting this, would Luci not just speak up and put the explanation out there for Rodrigo to hear and process, rather than just becoming indignant and closed-mouthed because her precious, and self-assumed, Virgencita-inspired superior moral sensibility has been offended? Her reaction to Rodrigo was exactly the same as his toward her -- refusal to communicate. But they're young, why should we expect more? (I actually find the entire Rogrigo/Luci thing a little bit creepy. Where was the Domestic Workers Protection Agency (so to speak) when the employer's son was breaking into the female employee's room while she slept, etc., etc. Nineteen years old? Rodrigo must be about 45, right?)
I like the transformation of Frances Ondiviela into the Julie character after "Hasta que el dinero..." and "Eva Luna." (did I get those right?) She looks great, I wasn't sure it was her for a long time. Her character just makes you want to yell "Hey Julie! Let's go spend some money! (um, but leave Gala at home, ok?)"
I'm just having some fun. I do like this show and am actually sad that it's going to only one hour a night (but I'm not the recapper). The first episode of "Por Ella Soy..." was fun but I'm really not looking forward to a man in woman's clothes thing, but maybe there will be some surprises.
BTW, would someone be willing to make a very brief summary of the history of whose baby is whose and what crimes have been committed, etc. I missed a couple of episodes and always seem to be crunching a tortilla chip when something big is revealed, not to mention I'm no expert in the language.
Thanks for bringing the episodes all back to life with even more humor in the recaps.

Luci is the first to admit that she should have told Rod the truth, but I think the two things she is most upset about is that he immediately believed the worst of her (theif, whore..my goodness, does the man not know her at all?); and also he just let those women tear into her without trying to protect her. I think she would have been less upset had he taken her away, alone, and confronted her about everything. But he made her stay in that toxic environment, surrounded by people he knows hates her. Then he doesn't let her explain fully-- just wants a yes or no answer. Later he accuses her of having a thing with her lawyer! All of this added up is just too much. I think she showed a willingness a few times after the initial confrontation to speak to him calmly and tell he what happened. She pleaded with him and told him ho much she loves him, but he refused to listen and reacted with anger. After that she was done with him.
So yes, she was guilty of keeping quiet about one thing. But Rod has done SO many more things after that to make the situation worse and get them to the point of divorce. I don't blame Luci at all for wanting to end it.
As for the parent/child relationships, this tn is actually more straight forward than most. Only Luci and Vio's parentage is in question.
-Luci is the bio child of Claudio Linares and his dead wife Aurora Linares. She was raised by Paz and Galdino. Rosa gave them Luci fater Aurora died and while Claudio was in jail.
-Magda is Violeta's mom. She had Vio out of wedlock and has always been a single mom. She has never told Vio or anyone else who Vio's dad is. She told Paz that she didn't even tell the father that she was pregnant. We have been given some clues that Don Aquiles is Vio's dad.
Max defrauded the company, set it up to look like Claudio Linares did it, and Claudio spent 20 years in the carcel.
Lastra- tried to blame Luci for robbing him the one night she worked there. Case went to court, it got thrown out, Lastra was in contempt cause he wouldn't stop yelling at the judge, went to jail and blamed it all on Luci, he has been after her for revenge ever since.
Lastra- Lorenzo gave Aldo some gambling chips worth 30,000 pesos which he shouldn't have done, while working at Inferno. Aldo came up with the money, payed it to Ivan, the manager of Inferno, but Lastra pressed charges anyway claiming Lorenzo robbed him, just to get back at Luci.
Rosa- gave baby Luci away and payed Paz a huge sum of money. Made Claudio think that Luci died along with her Mama Aurora and then when Claudio got out of jail, desecrated an infant's grave to move bones/clothes into Aurora's grave so Claudio would think his baby is dead.
Gala and Lastra- made it seem that Luci worked at Inferno for more than one night, and inferred she was a ho while working there. Lastra knows this is false, don't know if Gala does. Gala prints this in her magazine about the type of women that work there with pictures of Vio and Luci.
Max- holding Vicky hostage and drugging her. Plus, underhanded business with Inferno. He is the real owner of Inferno. Don't know if he is laundering money, funneling money, it hasn't been revealed yet.
The non-celebrants at Rosa's table were so polite about leaving the table. I was really hoping somebody, anybody would pound on the table with both fists, making all the dished jump, and yell that Rosa was Out. Of. Her. Mind. Rod could have poured his wine on Rosa's head. I'm just not a nice person, oh well...
Vivi, I know you are happy--1 hour.
I have seen maybe five novelas and portions of probably five other novelas. I know that two hours is hard for recappers but I loved the two hour version. Actually, each night when when the second hour ended I was always wanting more and I cannot understand Spanish. There is just something about this one, the story, the cast, whatever it is, it's very compelling. I can't wait each night for seven o'clock, I wouldn't miss it for anything even the Olympics and I love the Olympics but Un Refugio will have to come first. I wish that Univision would have put the new one on at seven and this one on at eight---oh well.
Yes Fridiga could chill the wine with her hands.
I wanted Rod to throw his wine at his mother but I guess that the family is too refined for something like that, although had he done so, it may have woke her up.
I am afraid for Vicki, how is she going to get away from that creep--he's sick. Did some of Rosa rub off on him?
the gringo
loved the 'chilling' line about Frigida, of course.. sidebar material indeed..
also the line about Max not recognizing his wife from an alien Pod and running a list of manicomios thhrough his head... he should register both her and HIMSELF in there at some time.
Pato is our hero for sure! can't wait for him to start acting on Luci's defense now that she and Rod are divorced... actually liked the surprise face on Rod (what do you expect, silly boy? that she will sit and cry her life out because you left her in the lion cage all alone?)
along with Paz who would not stop at anything before she gave Rod a piece of her mind...
like the scene with Paz and Claudio... that double meaning line about precious gift was priceless!
Rod took another couple of steps up the jackass ladder by agreeing to go out drinking with his pals. I'm sure they are going to end up in the same place as Gagme and her posse. What an idiot.
Loved how the poor folk were all together enjoying themselves while the rich folk are having or almost having the dinner from hell. Talk about clueless Rosa thinks having gotten rid of an innocent girl in the most brutal way possible that life will return to it's placid, loveless way. She still isn't picking up on how furious her kids are and even Pato saying he loves only because she is his mother doesn't get through to her.. She lives with the idea that in time all the vile things she did will be forgotten. Does she ever have a surprise coming.
I hope that when Paz the Furious arrives at the big house that someone (Pato) is there to overhear her denunciation of Rosa.
I wondered if that telltale mag was still in the house and was glad brave Luci pulled it out to tell her mother the whole horrible story. Unfortunately there are pix of Vi in there which might let the cat out of the bag with her story.
The question of the day - who really got Lorenzo out of jail, Berrera and Linares, Oscar and his checkbook or a phone call from Mr. Hyde.
Yea Paz! She really lit into Rod. He knows he's on her s**t list now.
I think the reason Lorenzo was let out of the pokey by Max was this (cuz he told Lastra to take a chillpill and remember who is really the boss): had Lorenzo been made to answer to the theft charges, it would have meant the po-po looking more into the dealings at Inferno. That would have led right to Max's doorstep. Since he's doing underhanded business, no way does he want the po-po sniffing around.
I think Hot Bod Rod will try one more time to get Luci back before she leaves for BFE. And it wouldn't surprise me Rod shows up at G/Btch's home drunker than cooter brown after a night out with the boys...and want a little wham bam thank you mam.

Claudio and Max were best friends young, they built the corporation together but then my guess is Max got greedy or jealous/envyous and framed Claudio for fraud (we know this since Claudio found evidence in the bank papers in switzerland that Max made money transactions faking Claudio's signature while Claudio and his wife Aurora were on vacation away).
Aurora had Luci as a baby, Luci apparently survived a couple days while Aurora died at childbirth but not before giving Rosa the baby and asking her to care for it. Claudio was jailed believing Rosa is an angel that cared for Aurora and his baby daughter while they still lived, and would have cared for them had they survived. That is why he is so thankful to Rosa.
Rosa believes Max and Aurora had an affair and that maybe Luci is Max's child. probably there is the reason for her hatred of Luci and her treating Luci so bad from the beginning and giving her away to Paz and Galdino while making everyone else believe the baby also died. I bet she preferred to give the baby away than raise the aby in her own household and hating her all her life.
WHen Luci showed up back, Rosa is now freaked out about her sons finding out about what she did back then (giving Luci away as a baby instead of caring for her as she had promised Aurora and Claudio). So she wants to send Luci as far away from their lives as possible so there won't be any chance her sons or anyone else will find out what she did back then.
I was kind of surprised when Max told Pato that Luci is now out of the family and will probably go back to Het Het and they will never see her again. I couldn't tell if he felt relieved since Rosa dropped the bomb on him that Luci is Claudio's. He knows Claudio won't believe he didn't know the truth from the beginning and with the girl having dealings with the man he must be nervous.
It seems that Rosa had an obsessive jealousy of Aurora, which included thinking Aurora had an affair with Max. Nothing that we have seen or heard abotu Aurora indicates this. It's all in Rosa's head. Linares has put Rosa on a pedestal because he thinks she cared for his wife and child in their last days. But Linares does see Max for the rat he is.
Paula- I also think Max is the one who finally made Lastra drop the charges. Lastra was having fun stringing everyone else along, and he certainly was having fun making Luci suffer. Only his big boss could put an end to that.
Gringo and Emilia- ITA. I too would have been very tempted to fling my drink at Rosa and be more rude to her.
On a related note, it occurrs to me that Rodrigo's over the top rage toward Luci is sort of a parallel to Max's treatment of Vicki over being "betrayed" -- something about a "hijo de tigre" -- isn't that the saying?
If he had dumped his glass of wine on her she would have said something like "That's what happens when one consorts with servants/indigenas/riff-raff" (Take your pick).
I have been thinking how would you describe the look or face of evil?
I guess that I would have to say Lastra. Yes, he has the look of evil and now maybe Dr.Jeckel Max. Did you guys see his face when he was talking to Licki? OMG!
It's a strange paradox, Julie has the most beautiful hair ever, but the smirk that is often on her face would also have to be described as the look of evil.
the gringo
Pato and Jana on the other hand have always loved their mother because she is their mother, remember the touching hospital scene when Rosa had her heart problem and Pato was so loving but both of these very bright kids are now very disillusioned with her behavior. Both of them see her for the controlling sick woman she is and neither of them is giving her a pass. They may continue respect her as their mother but their love is no longer blind as Rod's is/was.
One of the best lines to date was when Rod tossed back his wine and told his mother you have made sure I will be unhappy all of my life and walked out. Oddly or maybe not so oddly it didn't seem to register with Rosa nor did it register how pithed everyone is with her. Talk about living in a dream world.
