Refugio Para el Amor #72 Mon 7/16/12 Stepford Wife Rosa Will Not Be Moved From Her Happy Place, but Paz Takes Away the Last of Rod’s Peace of Mind

Luci has hightailed it over to Empresas Torreslanda to try to stop her mama before she rips Rod a new one, or he reveals details about what went down between them. She arrives just as Emperor Max has pulled up in his black town car. He calls to her and they greet each other. Luci tells him she is looking for her mama, and he is surprised that her mother has come to D.F. He invites Luci up to his office.

Meanwhile, Paz is letting loose a whole lot of righteous indignation on Rod.
P: Rodrigo, I didn’t want to say this, but you deceived/disappointed me. You promised you would take care of my daughter-- that you would make my Luciana happy. And now I find her alone, unhappy, and unable to tell me that you no longer love her. She kept it a secret!
R: I love her a lot Doña Paz.
P: You love her?! Well, I don’t believe it. No, I don’t believe it, and it hurts me a lot Rodrigo. Because I believed in you-- your promises. In spite of knowing that your mother didn’t like her!
R: Doña Paz, you can’t image how much this situation hurts me.
P: Well just imagine how much it hurts me. You can’t imagine the sadness I feel seeing my Luciana like this.  Because you married my little girl Rodrigo. And all of this *love* that you promised, just ended, just like that?! That is called deception, sir! Deception!
R: The only thing I can say to you Doña Paz is that I’m going to love Luci all my life.
P: Well, hopefully SHE won’t (love you forever). Hopefully she’ll forget about you quickly. Hopefully she’ll forget the happiness that you promised her, and that you didn’t deliver! What sadness you bring me Rodrigo! Because you have never had, nor will you ever have, a woman as worthy/valuable as my Luciana. You! You didn’t know how to appreciate her.
Rod looks shamefaced through the entire conversation and at the point of tears.

Over in Max’s office, Luci is nervous and explains to Max that she didn’t tell her mom about the divorce. Her mom surprised them by coming to D.F., and has found nothing but bad news with her kids- Lorenzo in jail and her getting a divorce. Luci wanted to avoid causing her all this pain. Max tells Luci not to worry about her brother and gives a secretive smile. (I think we can now be sure that Lor will go free.) He then tells Luci how badly he feels about what’s going on with her and Rod, and knows that things have been unjust for her.  Luci wants Max to go find her mama; she herself does not want to encounter Rod. Max takes Luci’s hands and says that we all have to face our problems head on. He suggests they go look for her mama in Rod’s office together. Considering that means facing the last two people she wants to face right now, Luci looks more than a little reluctant.

Paz continues the tongue lashing of Rod, telling him that she’s leaving very disappointed in him. She never imagined that she would have to rip him a new one like she’s just done.
R: Doña Paz, I offer you an apology. The last thing I wanted to do was harm Luci, and you. (He reaches for her arm and she looks at his hand like he’s a leper.) You don’t know how much I regret this situation. And believe one thing—this morning I separated from her, loving her profoundly.
Paz stares at him and shakes her head in disbelief.

Aldo, who never seems to learn, calls Nicole’s salon asking for Vicky. She hasn’t answered her phone or texts, and he’s surprised to hear she hasn’t been to work… We next see Vicky waking up in the chalet in the woods. Yay!! She’s alive. Oh, but wait. She naked and handcuffed to the bed, with not a key or cell phone in sight. She freaks out and cries for her Osito.

Rod is sitting on the couch in his office, in deep thought, when Max brings Luci in. Rod explains that Paz just left and Luci immediately makes to leave. Rod delays her a bit by apologizing and saying he never meant to cause her mother this pain. Luci says nothing. (It’s a case of too little, too late.) Max gives Rod a stern look and tells Luci the chauffer is waiting downstairs to take her and her mom wherever they want. Luci refuses it, but Max insists. She leaves and Rod watches her leave longingly. Max’s phone rings at that moment. Rosa wants him to advise Rod and Aldo that they are having a special family dinner that afternoon. Rod refuses to go. Max understands his anger. He disagrees with many of Rosa’s actions, but she’s always done things thinking of her children’s well-being. Well, at least from her *particular* (meaning crazy) point of view. Rod still refuses and doesn’t want to talk about Rosa.

Aldo catches Max just as he returns to his office. He’s been dying to talk to him about the Lorenzo situation. Max informs Aldo that as of today, he’s his personal assistant. Aldo is shocked but then super happy about it. Max wants him to be available to him 24 hours a day. He is to obey ALL orders. He won’t be allowed to make one single error! Aldo promises. Max then tells him about the dinner. Aldo brings up Lorenzo again and begs him to intercede. Max doesn’t give him an answer, but just dismisses him by saying he’ll see him at the house later. Max then immediately picks up the phone and calls Lastra with a p*ssed off look on his face.

Outside the building, Luci is searching frantically for Paz. Cuco, the driver, has not seen her. Marcos arrives, calls to Luci and asks if she needs help. She is just telling him about trying to find her mom, when one of the security guys brings Paz back. She got lost. Cuco takes them home in the town car.

In Het Het, Procopio seems to have adjusted to his new job as funeral home director pretty quickly. He’s wearing Don Serapio’s bowler hat and black suit, and making a flower arrangement. Don Aquiles comes busting in and makes fun of Copio. Copio says he prefers the dead who are quiet, to Aquiles who’s always yelling or kicking him. Aquiles tells him he can stick with his peace and says he’s ashamed of him. He leaves without much of a fight. Copio gets reassurance from Theo that this job is just as honorable and good as any other. Copio thinks that Aquiles just misses him, and misses bossing him around. It’s not easy to find another Procopio! Theo agrees.

Rosa is being played by her Stepford Wife clone this evening. She sets the table and asks Frigida to inform Pato and Hannah to come down for the meal. She asks Mati to bring the wine because she wants to make a special celebratory toast. Mati does her best to ignore her. Connie walks in and wants to know what they’re celebrating. Why, Luci and Rod’s divorce, of course! La, la, la! Rosa smiles happily. Frigida listens in. Frigida then goes to the kitchen and tells Mati that she will take care of chilling the wine. (All she has to do is put her hands on the bottle.) What she really wants is to be alone to report in to Gala and Julie.

At Vio’s apartment, the two girls are holding their moms. Magda is saying that everything happens for a reason. If Luci has made this decision, then Paz has to help Luci overcome this life test. Everything will turn out well in the end, as God wishes. Vio tries to cheer Luci up by saying she will have other beaus lining up at her door soon. Luci says she will never fall in love again. This will never happen to her again. Paz says she’s very disappointed, but not by her kids. She’s disappointed that her kids did not have enough faith in her to tell her what was going on with them. They thought that she wouldn’t help them resolve their problems. They didn’t trust her. Luci asks her pardon and says she does trust her. Paz has always taught her and her brother to stay on the right path. She didn’t go wrong with them. If they didn’t tell her, it was only to avoid causing her this pain. Paz shouldn’t have to cry because of their errors. Paz kisses her and hugs Luci to her bosom.

At Casa Torreslanda, the family has started to gather around the table. Hannah and Pato bring up needing to have the elevator checked. Pato finds it very suspicious that it locked Mati in like that and wants to talk to the architect. Frigida does a lousy job of hiding her guilt. But she looks like that all the time, so I guess it would be hard to tell. Aldo is the last to arrive (aside from Rod), and seems to be the only one to notice that Rosa has been replaced by a Stepford Wife or a Pod Person when she calls him mi amor and politely asks him to sit. Rosa prays and blesses the meal. Aldo continues to look at her like she’s an alien. Maybe he can see the lizard skin peeking out from underneath her fake human skin. Max notes that it’s strange that they are all together, but informs everyone that Rod is not coming. Aldo, Melissa and Hannah want to know what they’re celebrating. Rosa happily tells them. They are celebrating the return of tranquility to their home. Rod walks in just then behind Rosa. She doesn’t see him. “Today, as of a few hours ago, Rodridgo finally got his divorce! Cheers, to the happiness of my son Rodrigo!” No one else raises a glass and Rod approaches the table slowly and looks at Rosa with scorn. He picks up a glass of wine and swigs it. “Cheers. Because I will be unhappy the rest of my life. Thank you mama.” He puts the glass back on the table and walks out the way he came. Everyone gives Rosa the stink eye, but she continues on as if nothing happened.

Over in their posh apartment, Gala and Julie are also toasting to the divorce over a meal, but with champagne, of course. Gala is happy that Rod is now a free man. Julie is happy that they now have the matriarch of the Torreslanda family in the palm of their hand. Bwahahaha!! Gala is pleased about this too. Rosa will have to help her get Rod back—it doesn’t matter to Gala how she does it. Julie has no doubt. Rosa is terrible and will do all kinds of horrid things (including stealing babies and faking their deaths) to get what she wants. Gala wants to see Rod, but doesn’t want to risk the cling-wrap act yet. Carola calls and Julie invites her out with Gala and her girls to celebrate.

Rosa is trying to persuade the other members of the family to get on her happy train about the Rod-Luci divorce. No one is buying a ticket for that train to Crazytown. Rosa says this pain Rod is feeling is fleeting. Luci deceived him. S/He who deceives once, will deceive a second time and many more times. Rosa just wants love and trust to return to this house. (Ha! What house is she talking about?) She knows she’s been anxious lately, and a TINY bit intolerant, but it was just her nerves. She’s sick. But now she’s feeling mighty fine and content. Max now seems to have realized that Rosa has been replaced by a Pod Person. He looks like he’s running all the names of the local manicomios through his head. Rosa says she just wants to recuperate her family and the warmth of her home. She apologizes for being such a bitch to them all lately.  Pato finally cuts into this crazy speech by saying she will always have their love and affection because she’s their mom, but if she wants to recuperate this harmony she’s talking about, she will have to apologize to Luci. He then leaves the dining room. He’s soon followed by everyone else. Max says he has an important “appointment.” Connie is the only one remaining. Rosa, still with a smile on her face, asks if she will join her for wine. Connie takes her glass of wine, gets up, and leaves.

Luci and Paz speak about the money Rod sent Paz. Paz actually brought it all with her to give back to Rod. Luci is in agreement with this. Vio, once again, doesn’t see the harm in keeping the money since it was given to them. There’s a knock on the door. It’s Estella, Ariche and Marianita. Estella brought cookies. The kiddies want to show off the gifts Marianita’s mom sent—a puzzle and a magic princess wand.  Ariche asks Luci if it’s true that if you make a wish with all your heart that it will come true. She says it is, but you have to ask with all your forces. Marianita makes Luci take the wand and make a wish. Luci closes her eyes and does so. There is immediately a knock at the door. The kids answer and it’s Fabian looking a little sheepish and a lot happy. He addresses Paz and shows her what he’s brought. It’s Lorenzo! He steps up to his mama and she acts like she’s going to smack him good. Instead, she pulls him into an embrace. Everyone rejoices. Luci and Lorenzo hug and everyone else then hugs him.

Pato reports to Rod via video the rest of the happenings at the strange meal with their mama. Rod says he doesn’t know when he’ll next return to the house. He doesn’t want to see Rosa and he can’t stand her right now (no la aguanto). He knows he shouldn’t speak that way about his mother, but she ruined his life. Pato gets it. She ruined his life, but Rod could have avoided it. Rod admits this is true. Marcos comes into his office and asks if Luci came to speak to him earlier, since he saw her out front. Rod says she did not come to see him, but to get her mother. Marcos can’t believe they are still mad at each other. Not mad, but now divorced Rod points out. Marcos is impactdado. Marcos says he can’t divorce Luci. Rod clarifies. It’s already done.  Marcos feels sorry for them all, who will now no longer have Luci in their lives, thanks to Rod. Pato says he will. He will go looking for Luci to see her. Luci is still part of his family, and no piece of paper will tell him different! Rod once again looks surprised to see the intensity of Pato’s feelings for Luci.

Max returns to the scene of the crime. Vicky is still cuffed to the bed, looking terrified. She cries and begs him not to do anything else to her. He gives her a death glare from the doorway.

Back to a celebration that’s actually happy. Lorenzo remembers that they left Claudio waiting outside. Luci rushes to hug him when he enters, and thanks him.  She then introduces him to Magda and then to her mama. Paz stares at him in shocked silence. He takes her hand and formally introduces himself. Her eyes go even wider and her mouth drops open when he says his name. She nearly faints once again. They all make her sit and Paz apologizes to Claudio. Claudio thinks she’s just tired from the long journey, and the surprises. He says he won’t stay long, but he wants to invite them all out soon. Luci says it has to be really soon, because they are leaving as soon as she takes her exam. She gives Claudio some of the special tea she made before he leaves. Paz tells him she will always be grateful to him. He has NO idea the happiness he has brought into her life. (He thinks she is speaking about freeing Lorenzo, but Magda, Estella and the audience all know she is also speaking about him giving her a daughter.) Claudio takes her hand again and says she has absolutely nothing to thank him for. Paz gives Magda a meaningful look.

At the chalet of fear, Max approaches the bed with keys. He undoes the handcuffs. In a soft threatening voice, he asks his little doll Vicky why she’s scared. She asks why he did this to her. She thought he was going to leave her there. He kisses and caresses the hand that was just cuffed to the bed and says he would never leave her. She asks him what’s going on—he’s never done this to her. He points out that she’s never betrayed him before. Then he angrily flings her arm down. She swears she never betrayed him. He says he believes her, because if she had betrayed him, they wouldn’t be having this conversation now. (Meaning, she wouldn’t be alive.) She begs him to never do this to her again. He kisses her shoulder and whispers sweet menaces in her ear.  “It’s just a game muñequita, just a game.”

Rosa has followed Connie to the sitting room with her wine. She wants to know why Connie is so upset by her change in attitude, when Connie has been hounding her for months about changing. She says Connie is right. She has all that she needs to be happy, and the good Padre Honesto also told her this. She credits him with this change in her. He told her to repair the path she was walking, and she’s done so. Rosa tells Connie to stop looking at her like she’s crazy, ‘cause she’s not. Ha! Life has given her a new opportunity to change her bad ways. Connie wants to know if it’s all fixed, just like that? Yep. The threat has gone, says Rosa. All will return to normal and Rosa intends to enjoy every minute of it. Connie looks extremely frustrated about what to do with the pod person who is posing as her sister.

The B/Witch Posse have gone out to a hopping club to celebrate the divorce.  Gala toasts to Rod living through this pain to eventually live by her side. Julie goes over to hit on some young thing at the bar.

Rod’s body is seated in his office chair, but his mind is definitely miles away. Marcos and Gabriel decide they need to take him out for drinking and distraction. This gets his attention. “Let’s go.”

In Het Het, Aquiles can’t get used to life without Procopio—he has to bend over and pick up his darts, for example. He can’t believe he hasn’t found another Copio in this whole two bit town. He has even resorted to speaking to and abusing his stuffed coati mundi, in place of Copio.

Linares tells his assistant Norma about meeting Paz. Now he knows why Luci is so sweet. Norman scolds him for being out all day. Claudio admits to neglecting his other duties in order to help Luci and her brother. He hasn’t even looked through the documents he brought back from Europe. Now that Luci is divorced and Lorenzo is out of jail, he’s going to dedicate himself full time to his fraud case. But he’s going to proceed very carefully (andar con pies de plomo). He doesn’t want to make one wrong move because this is his only chance to clear his name and unmask Max.

Vicky returns home crying. Don Jero was worried about her and asks where she’s been all day. Vicky tries to pretend that nothing is wrong and says she was working at a client’s house out of the city and had no cell reception. She starts to bawl and embraces her papa. Jero gets even more worried. He can feel her trembling.  He wonders if Aldo did something to her; he just wants her to tell him what’s wrong. She lies and says it’s the stress of everything—him losing his job. Jero gives her the happy news that Max gave him his job back and it was all a misunderstanding (malintendido). Vicky hugs him again, but she still can’t stop crying. Jero tries to assure her that all will be well.

Max, the bastard, walks into Pato’s room and kisses him. Tomorrow, Pato starts his new therapy. He thanks Max for his faith in him and support. Max tells him to save his thanks till he can walk again. He’s not going to rest until Pato achieves this. Pato asks if he saw Rod at the office and how was he. Max lies without hesitation that he had a work appointment, and so did not see Rod after the disastrous meal. Pato thinks Rod must be down in the dumps. Max tells Pato about Paz showing up at the offices. Pato would like to meet her; he’s sure she’s as sweet as Luci. “You care for Luci a lot, right?” “A whole lot.”  Max likes her too, but points out that now that Luci is out of Rod’s life, she’s out of theirs too. Pato disagrees. She’s not out of his life. Max says she’ll most likely return to her town and not come back. Pato is still determined. He’ll go looking for her when he’s recovered. Max agrees with him.

Magda tries to get Vio to eat something before she goes to her “nursing” job. Vio continues with her lie about her uniform being at Serena’s place. Magda gives her the blessing, and Vio says how much she missed having her do that. The boys take Ariche up to their little place to go to bed. Before he goes, Ariche reminds Marianita to make her wish and to hold her wand all night. Estella and Marianita also then leave. Luci begins to clear up, but looks sad again. Paz asks her why she and Rod separated so quickly. What happened between them that Luci doesn’t want to tell her? Luci sits her down. She has learned by now that this is the best position for Paz to be in when she gets bad news. Paz sits next to Magda. They both stare wide eyed at Luci, anticipating the worst.
L: I’m going to tell you both the truth, although I’m dying of shame.
P: Luciana, don’t scare me daughter.
M: My goodness! What happened Luciana?
Luci goes to the drawer and pulls out the envelope with the infamous magazine.
L: Ama, Magda- When I came here to the capital, things weren’t like I thought. God and the Virgin know how many streets I walked, looking for so many jobs. But each time I arrived, something happened and they didn’t give me the job. In desperation, I went to work in a place as a waitress—a night club.
P: But daughter! How did you end up in a place like that?
M: Who took you there Luciana? (If only she knew…)
L: That’s not important Magda. I didn’t even go there to work as a waitress. I went to be a bathroom attendant, but…
P: But? But what daughter?
Luci pulls out the magazine and shows it to them. Paz and Magda immediately recognize her under the makeup, wig and costume.
P: Luciana. No, no Luciana, no.

Avances: Paz is ticked. She says her silence is over and she’s going to put Rosa in her place. She and Magda go to Casa Torreslanda!

Oh happy day! One hour episodes. Yay!

Vivi, great recap.

Yes, BSC Rosa is in her happy place, too bad it is not in a manicomio.

Watching the scene with Max and Vicky, I wanted to throw a shoe at him and tell him he had the wrong one locked up, it should have been BSC Rosa.

Pato is the best!

I really cheered when one by one everyone left BSC Rosa's celebration.

Paz needs to pack her children up and head to Het Het. I have to admire Paz, she is going to give everyone a piece of her mind before she catches the bus out of town.

I do hope that Paz and Claudio can become friends. She did a great job with Luci and I am sure Claudio has no intention of taking Luci from Paz. Paz will always be her mother.

Rosemary Primera

Roselena gave me the creeps tonight. Once upon a time I was involved with a man whose mother was a maternal nightmare right out of a TN. When her daughter filed for divorce she celebrated and bragged about it.

Just a little too close for comfort and I'm glad everyone walked out on her.

Hey Rosemary P and Urban-

Both Rosa and Max gave me the creeps tonight. Those two are made for each other.

I felt so sad for Vicky. I felt her fear and her helplessness, both when she was cuffed to the bed, and when she fell into her father's arms trembling and crying. She is paying dearly for a dumb young person mistake.

I am also really glad that everyone left Rosa at the table, led by Pato (my hero).

Vivi thank you amiga for this wonderful recap. Loved your descriptions of Rosa as a pod, stepford wife and an alien lol.
She was in high form this evening, so creepy. And totally unaware of the feelings of those around her. She is totally deranged, she thinks it's over, but we in Viewerville, know it's only begun for her. I can't wait for Paz to confront her sorry butt.

I am glad the family abandoned her at the dinner, Served her right. Even Aldo who looked way creeped out. I hope they catch Frigid soon, passing all she knows about the family to Julie and Gagme. I hope she gets the same firing they gave Luci. Loved what you said about chilling that wine with her hands lol.

Good for Paz giving it to Rod. He so deserved it. I don't understand what he thinks love is. When you love someone you listen to them and not an embittered ex who you left at the altar, or her money hungry mother, or your deranged mama, even though you love that Mama. What an idiot he is. He really needs to get his head on straight. But that will take a long time.

I liked what you said about Paz having to sit everytime she gets bad news, lol. It is best for her. I am glad that Lorenzo is out of the hoosegow and back with Paz. Paz looked really scared when she met Claudio and that look between Magda and Paz. Maybe Paz will finally tell Luci the truth, now that she knows that Luci has a sort of relationship with Claudio. I dont' think Claudio will blame Paz either, but look out Rosa. I hope he throws her in jail.

Poor Luci having to show that magazine to her Mama. The fur will fly tomorrow. I wonder when Magda and Paz see the picture in the middle of that magazine, if they will recognize Vio too? Magda will be really upset too.

Love Copio's new "luke" lol. He looks so dignified and loved what he did with the flowers. Don A misses him I think. I bet he tries to get him back to work for him.

Madelaine- ITA that Rod doesn't seem to understand what love is. He sure was throwing the words around a lot in his conversation with Paz, but still didn't seem to get it.

Paz is about to burst. She going to tell someone the truth soon. I don't think it will be long before either Luci or Claudio knows.

We've had a recurring theme of kids getting into real, serious trouble and keeping it from their parents to protect them from the pain/grief-- Luci/Lor and Paz; Vio and Magda; Vicky and Jero. Jero will probably have a heart attack the day he learns Victoria's secret.

Vivi thanks for your recap and hurray it was only an hour. Great call on Rosa as a stepford wife or pod person. The only comfort we have is that she just lined up super-sized anvils for herself with that dinner. She kept talking about lies and deceivers being exposed. Watch out crazy!

I hope if Pato recovers and finds Luci, she ends up with him. Rod is dead to me. Let him remain w/Gala and her crew since he believed them over HIS wife.

Yes, Max and Rosa were made for one another. Cuffing Vicky to the bed and calling it a game. Oh no. Their children are going to be horrified when all this stuff comes to light.

Is this Laura Flores' first villana? If so I'm amazed at how easy it seems to be for typecast actresses to make this transition.

I hope somebody tells Padre Honesto about this dinner. I'm surprised Roselena didn't invite him.

Vivi: Fabulous as always.

I really liked your title - "...but Paz takes away the last of Rod's Peace of Mind". I'm so happy that someone (besides Pato) had the courage and strength to tell Rod what an utter fool he is being.

I laughed out loud at: "Frigida...tells Mati that she will take care of chilling the wine. (All she has to do is put her hands on the bottle.)" Wonderful!

Anon: "Yes, BSC Rosa is in her happy place, too bad it is not in a manicomio" also had me chuckling.

I was also happy that everyone left Rosa's "celebration". She is so delusional and pathetic.

Aside from Lorenzo's release, there is just nothing joyous taking place here. Max has now secured a place in hell, I don't care how loving a father he is.

UA, Laura Flores was also "bad to the bone" in Guapos. If you ever have the chance to see it, I recommend it. I won't spoil the end but she is an amazing actress. She also played Eduardo Yanez' mother in CS, her death scene is one I will always remember.

Vivi, thank you again for your constant care and attention.

Diana

I remember Laura Flores' performance in CS 2009. Her death scene was memorable, but a little too long.

I forgot to comment about the wine chilling line, but that was classic and one for the sidebar.

Morning all! Thanks for the comments.

I have now seen Laura Flores play the good, long suffering woman (ENDA, CS09), a villain (Guapos, Refugio), and a loopy comedic character (Llena, Familia). She is great in every role. The woman is talented. I so hate Rosa. But I what I hate most is that everyone lets her get away with her crap-- especially Max, Mati and Connie. Even the Padre. He and Connie threaten to tell Claudio the truth, but then don't.

Like the rest of you, I just loved Pato this episode and so wished that there was hope for him and Luci. But Luci is a one man kind of girl, and I don't think the writers would do that to Gab Soto again.

Karen- ITA. The Torreslanda kids will be devasted when they find out the kind of monsters their parents really are.

I both hate and love Max. I love the way he is with his kids, and I really love the faces he makes at Rosa. He had some great ones last night at the dinner table. I was cracking up looking at him. But then I would remember that this is the guy who's torturing poor Vicky at that exact moment. Talk about compartmentalizing different parts of your life! He’s a great multi-tasker.

Vivi, so happy for you! One hour episodes. I was so use to the two hour marathons, when Eva came on I did a double-take. (Not watching--love Marcel, but not a real Jaime C. fan.)

I now am firmly convinced Rosa has gone bonkers. They craziness she exuded before was based on fear and a sort of reality that she was in big trouble for what she had done...now she's in some sort of LALALand where she is convinced everything is fine and everyone will join her going down the yellow brick road. Loved how everyone just left her alone, but it just didn't faze her. Yeah, she's passed through to Looneyville for sure.

"(All she has to do is put her hands on the bottle.) " This was brilliant.

Max drives me insane. I don't care how much he loves his kids, but how he manipulates everyone else, what he did to Vicky, just sick. And Aldo, poor slob has no idea what he just got handed to him. New job my eye.

Paz was a down-right lionness with Rod last night. (And by the previews, again tonight). Do not mess with her kids!!! But lord, Rod has got to be one of the dimmest galans ever. He treats Luci like crud, never really tries to make amends except for manhandling her into a kiss, and then is swearing to everyone he will love her always, boohoohoo. I have a hard time feeling bad for him. Pato has motivation to get better so he can find Luci---I say go for it!!

Gala and gals, how fun it must be to go out bar-hopping WITH YOUR MOTHER! And then she's the one that hits on the guy and gets him. Julie never ceases to amaze, and not in a good way.

Daisynjay- Yes, Paz is in lioness mode right now. I was surprised that she didn't bring up to Rod that he also took her pure daughter's virginity. The jerk!! I do not get how he hasn't realized how stupid he is being.

My apologies to all recappers, I appreciate the heck out of all your fine work, but I liked the two hour mode. Moved the story along.

Are the advances screwing us again? I can't imagine that Rosa would be bothered to even let the three Amigas past the gate, let alone give us what we want...a show down between Paz and the crazy lady that is probably related to the Monteros.

Awesome recap.

Let me begin by saying thank you God for not having Rodrigo take his shirt off for one episode (or at least allowing me to miss it)! Who walks through his front door each and every time and immediately pulls his shirt over his head? I do -- but I can't afford air conditioning. I'm sure he'll take it off next episode, but thank You for this one reprieve.

So I guess we all assume that Luci knows exactly what love is, and that it involves something about a woman always being unconditionally worshipped just because she is wonderful "just the way you are" so to speak, and that witholding information just long enough for circumstances to develop favorably along the lines of her wishes/hopes, and then being mortally offended when the truth comes out and she has to explain herself -- these are all just part of true love? Yes, Rodrigo may have overreacted a little. But why, in a society (the one depicted in this fictional drama) where working in a place like the Infierno (but not going there with your fiance and friends for a night out -- although I seem to recall Rodrigo was against it) is considered a mortal sin by everyone from the bottom to the top of society -- why should Luci not expect some sort of reaction? Her mother is about to get the vapors again over it -- why is it ok for mama to see it as a serious misjudgment by Luci but her husband is supposed to overlook everything -- especially the convenient witholding of information -- because of "love"? And why, reasonably expecting this, would Luci not just speak up and put the explanation out there for Rodrigo to hear and process, rather than just becoming indignant and closed-mouthed because her precious, and self-assumed, Virgencita-inspired superior moral sensibility has been offended? Her reaction to Rodrigo was exactly the same as his toward her -- refusal to communicate. But they're young, why should we expect more? (I actually find the entire Rogrigo/Luci thing a little bit creepy. Where was the Domestic Workers Protection Agency (so to speak) when the employer's son was breaking into the female employee's room while she slept, etc., etc. Nineteen years old? Rodrigo must be about 45, right?)

I like the transformation of Frances Ondiviela into the Julie character after "Hasta que el dinero..." and "Eva Luna." (did I get those right?) She looks great, I wasn't sure it was her for a long time. Her character just makes you want to yell "Hey Julie! Let's go spend some money! (um, but leave Gala at home, ok?)"

I'm just having some fun. I do like this show and am actually sad that it's going to only one hour a night (but I'm not the recapper). The first episode of "Por Ella Soy..." was fun but I'm really not looking forward to a man in woman's clothes thing, but maybe there will be some surprises.

BTW, would someone be willing to make a very brief summary of the history of whose baby is whose and what crimes have been committed, etc. I missed a couple of episodes and always seem to be crunching a tortilla chip when something big is revealed, not to mention I'm no expert in the language.

Thanks for bringing the episodes all back to life with even more humor in the recaps.

JR

Ahh JR- I love when our guy viewers chime in. Always a refreshing point of view. :)

Luci is the first to admit that she should have told Rod the truth, but I think the two things she is most upset about is that he immediately believed the worst of her (theif, whore..my goodness, does the man not know her at all?); and also he just let those women tear into her without trying to protect her. I think she would have been less upset had he taken her away, alone, and confronted her about everything. But he made her stay in that toxic environment, surrounded by people he knows hates her. Then he doesn't let her explain fully-- just wants a yes or no answer. Later he accuses her of having a thing with her lawyer! All of this added up is just too much. I think she showed a willingness a few times after the initial confrontation to speak to him calmly and tell he what happened. She pleaded with him and told him ho much she loves him, but he refused to listen and reacted with anger. After that she was done with him.

So yes, she was guilty of keeping quiet about one thing. But Rod has done SO many more things after that to make the situation worse and get them to the point of divorce. I don't blame Luci at all for wanting to end it.

As for the parent/child relationships, this tn is actually more straight forward than most. Only Luci and Vio's parentage is in question.

-Luci is the bio child of Claudio Linares and his dead wife Aurora Linares. She was raised by Paz and Galdino. Rosa gave them Luci fater Aurora died and while Claudio was in jail.
-Magda is Violeta's mom. She had Vio out of wedlock and has always been a single mom. She has never told Vio or anyone else who Vio's dad is. She told Paz that she didn't even tell the father that she was pregnant. We have been given some clues that Don Aquiles is Vio's dad.

Oh, and Rosa has the crazy idea in her head that Max is Luci's bio dad, the result of an affair she assumes he had with Aurora. Max has denied this up and down, and no one else (Padre, Mati and Connie) believe it either. I'm not sure that Rosa even really believes this, but it's all part of the sick, jealousy fantsy she's built in her head all these years that she used to justify giving Luci away as an infant.

JR the crimes so far:

Max defrauded the company, set it up to look like Claudio Linares did it, and Claudio spent 20 years in the carcel.

Lastra- tried to blame Luci for robbing him the one night she worked there. Case went to court, it got thrown out, Lastra was in contempt cause he wouldn't stop yelling at the judge, went to jail and blamed it all on Luci, he has been after her for revenge ever since.

Lastra- Lorenzo gave Aldo some gambling chips worth 30,000 pesos which he shouldn't have done, while working at Inferno. Aldo came up with the money, payed it to Ivan, the manager of Inferno, but Lastra pressed charges anyway claiming Lorenzo robbed him, just to get back at Luci.

Rosa- gave baby Luci away and payed Paz a huge sum of money. Made Claudio think that Luci died along with her Mama Aurora and then when Claudio got out of jail, desecrated an infant's grave to move bones/clothes into Aurora's grave so Claudio would think his baby is dead.

Gala and Lastra- made it seem that Luci worked at Inferno for more than one night, and inferred she was a ho while working there. Lastra knows this is false, don't know if Gala does. Gala prints this in her magazine about the type of women that work there with pictures of Vio and Luci.

Max- holding Vicky hostage and drugging her. Plus, underhanded business with Inferno. He is the real owner of Inferno. Don't know if he is laundering money, funneling money, it hasn't been revealed yet.

Thanks, Vivi. Excellent as always. So glad for you that this TN is back to one hour.
The non-celebrants at Rosa's table were so polite about leaving the table. I was really hoping somebody, anybody would pound on the table with both fists, making all the dished jump, and yell that Rosa was Out. Of. Her. Mind. Rod could have poured his wine on Rosa's head. I'm just not a nice person, oh well...

Another guy viewer chiming in.

Vivi, I know you are happy--1 hour.

I have seen maybe five novelas and portions of probably five other novelas. I know that two hours is hard for recappers but I loved the two hour version. Actually, each night when when the second hour ended I was always wanting more and I cannot understand Spanish. There is just something about this one, the story, the cast, whatever it is, it's very compelling. I can't wait each night for seven o'clock, I wouldn't miss it for anything even the Olympics and I love the Olympics but Un Refugio will have to come first. I wish that Univision would have put the new one on at seven and this one on at eight---oh well.

Yes Fridiga could chill the wine with her hands.

I wanted Rod to throw his wine at his mother but I guess that the family is too refined for something like that, although had he done so, it may have woke her up.

I am afraid for Vicki, how is she going to get away from that creep--he's sick. Did some of Rosa rub off on him?
the gringo

Brilliant, Vivi!
loved the 'chilling' line about Frigida, of course.. sidebar material indeed..
also the line about Max not recognizing his wife from an alien Pod and running a list of manicomios thhrough his head... he should register both her and HIMSELF in there at some time.
Pato is our hero for sure! can't wait for him to start acting on Luci's defense now that she and Rod are divorced... actually liked the surprise face on Rod (what do you expect, silly boy? that she will sit and cry her life out because you left her in the lion cage all alone?)
along with Paz who would not stop at anything before she gave Rod a piece of her mind...
like the scene with Paz and Claudio... that double meaning line about precious gift was priceless!

Have decided that Max is Dr Jeckel and Mr Hyde. He is the kindly doc with his kids and Mr Hyde with Vici and Lastra. He certainly put the fear of God in Vicki and I wonder what he has in store for Aldo who thinks he has hit the jackpot with his new job as his Tio's PA.

Rod took another couple of steps up the jackass ladder by agreeing to go out drinking with his pals. I'm sure they are going to end up in the same place as Gagme and her posse. What an idiot.

Loved how the poor folk were all together enjoying themselves while the rich folk are having or almost having the dinner from hell. Talk about clueless Rosa thinks having gotten rid of an innocent girl in the most brutal way possible that life will return to it's placid, loveless way. She still isn't picking up on how furious her kids are and even Pato saying he loves only because she is his mother doesn't get through to her.. She lives with the idea that in time all the vile things she did will be forgotten. Does she ever have a surprise coming.

I hope that when Paz the Furious arrives at the big house that someone (Pato) is there to overhear her denunciation of Rosa.

I wondered if that telltale mag was still in the house and was glad brave Luci pulled it out to tell her mother the whole horrible story. Unfortunately there are pix of Vi in there which might let the cat out of the bag with her story.

The question of the day - who really got Lorenzo out of jail, Berrera and Linares, Oscar and his checkbook or a phone call from Mr. Hyde.

Boy oh boy does Loco Rosa know how to clear a room or what???

Yea Paz! She really lit into Rod. He knows he's on her s**t list now.

I think the reason Lorenzo was let out of the pokey by Max was this (cuz he told Lastra to take a chillpill and remember who is really the boss): had Lorenzo been made to answer to the theft charges, it would have meant the po-po looking more into the dealings at Inferno. That would have led right to Max's doorstep. Since he's doing underhanded business, no way does he want the po-po sniffing around.

I think Hot Bod Rod will try one more time to get Luci back before she leaves for BFE. And it wouldn't surprise me Rod shows up at G/Btch's home drunker than cooter brown after a night out with the boys...and want a little wham bam thank you mam.

Paula

i am wondering if the 'antro' the guys are referring to is the NFERNO. Lastra better not be on the grounds, Rod is NOT IN THE MOOD!! and maybe there Vio will be able to tell him that it was the ONE NIGHT Luci was there.. and she will have plenty of backup (starting with the bar guy) to confirm her version.

Vivi / madelaine -- thank you very much for the summary. I apologize, I should have been more specific. I was mostly interested in the situation with Luci/Linares/Rosa. Some things I'm confused about: I'm pretty sure I heard Rosa tell Max, seemingly right after she got done screaming at him to admit to a relationship with Aurora, that Luci is Linares' child, so she knows it wasn't from Max and Aurora. At one point I thought that maybe Luci was from Max/Aurora and that's why Rosa gave her away. Which leads to my further confusion -- how did Rosa have the authority to give Luci away? And why would she want to do that? I got the impression (from the scene at the grave), which further confused me, that Rosa and Linares were on good terms, thought I heard him say that Rosa was the only Torreslanda he respected, or something, which made me almost think that maybe they had had a relationship and that Luci was the result and thus had to be given away, but I guess that wouldn't make sense, unless Linares were in on hiding the fact, but it wouldn't make sense to bury their baby with Aurora...couldn't be... But if they did have some sort of friendship, why would Rosa want to get rid of Linares' baby? To hurt Aurora in some way, even though she isn't around any longer? Was there a scene with Rosa in the hospital with Aurora that had some info I didn't pick up? The whole thing isn't falling into place in my brain.

JR

JR,
Claudio and Max were best friends young, they built the corporation together but then my guess is Max got greedy or jealous/envyous and framed Claudio for fraud (we know this since Claudio found evidence in the bank papers in switzerland that Max made money transactions faking Claudio's signature while Claudio and his wife Aurora were on vacation away).
Aurora had Luci as a baby, Luci apparently survived a couple days while Aurora died at childbirth but not before giving Rosa the baby and asking her to care for it. Claudio was jailed believing Rosa is an angel that cared for Aurora and his baby daughter while they still lived, and would have cared for them had they survived. That is why he is so thankful to Rosa.
Rosa believes Max and Aurora had an affair and that maybe Luci is Max's child. probably there is the reason for her hatred of Luci and her treating Luci so bad from the beginning and giving her away to Paz and Galdino while making everyone else believe the baby also died. I bet she preferred to give the baby away than raise the aby in her own household and hating her all her life.
WHen Luci showed up back, Rosa is now freaked out about her sons finding out about what she did back then (giving Luci away as a baby instead of caring for her as she had promised Aurora and Claudio). So she wants to send Luci as far away from their lives as possible so there won't be any chance her sons or anyone else will find out what she did back then.

fast forward 20 years (Luci is 19 so it is a good chance Luci is indeed Claudio's and not Max's child), the 20 yrs Claudio served in jail for the fraud... and you come to the days when Rod and Pato went to San Fran el Alto and Pato had the accident... days later the incident at the NFERNO... now should be a couple months after that.

Gringo I too am wondering HTH I'm going to deal with Refugio and the Games. Refugio airs at 6 in my area, really bad timing so I tape it and then watch it usually first thing in the morning but it is getting too good so will try and fit it in before bed time.

I was kind of surprised when Max told Pato that Luci is now out of the family and will probably go back to Het Het and they will never see her again. I couldn't tell if he felt relieved since Rosa dropped the bomb on him that Luci is Claudio's. He knows Claudio won't believe he didn't know the truth from the beginning and with the girl having dealings with the man he must be nervous.

Thanks, martaivett -- I think I finally get it now

JR- Marta gave all the details, but to answer your question you cannot just give away someone's child like that. It was illegal and Rosa could go to jail for it. Max told her this when she finally admitted what she had done to him recently. Max definitely does not want to give Claudio another weapon to use against them. Luci would be that weapon if Claudio knew the truth. So, although he likes Luci, she reminds him of her mother Aurora whom he admired greatly, and he is horrified by what Rosa did, he will not open up his mouth about it, and must feel some sense of relief that the Luci timebomb will be far away when she goes back to her town.

It seems that Rosa had an obsessive jealousy of Aurora, which included thinking Aurora had an affair with Max. Nothing that we have seen or heard abotu Aurora indicates this. It's all in Rosa's head. Linares has put Rosa on a pedestal because he thinks she cared for his wife and child in their last days. But Linares does see Max for the rat he is.

I think Rosa's problem is not just fear of her kids (and society) finding out the truth about her baby traficking and death falsification, but she also truly HATES Luci. She has transferred the hate and jealousy she felt for Aurora on to Luci, who looks and acts like her.

Decie Girl- I always think of Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde when I see Max. He's totally different people.

Paula- I also think Max is the one who finally made Lastra drop the charges. Lastra was having fun stringing everyone else along, and he certainly was having fun making Luci suffer. Only his big boss could put an end to that.

Gringo and Emilia- ITA. I too would have been very tempted to fling my drink at Rosa and be more rude to her.

add me to the ones that would have liked to see Rod splashing that wine glass to Rosa's face... just not that kind of household, i guess... (as Pato said, she might be whatever, but she is my mother) type of 'scruples'.

Thank you again Vivi.

On a related note, it occurrs to me that Rodrigo's over the top rage toward Luci is sort of a parallel to Max's treatment of Vicki over being "betrayed" -- something about a "hijo de tigre" -- isn't that the saying?

Rodrigo -- in his own way -- is a mamma's boy. That is more than enough to send any woman flying in the opposite direction.

If he had dumped his glass of wine on her she would have said something like "That's what happens when one consorts with servants/indigenas/riff-raff" (Take your pick).

Hurry, please hurry. I can't wait for Team Luci to swing into full attack mode---team bruja and the evil Lastra have to be taken down.

I have been thinking how would you describe the look or face of evil?
I guess that I would have to say Lastra. Yes, he has the look of evil and now maybe Dr.Jeckel Max. Did you guys see his face when he was talking to Licki? OMG!

It's a strange paradox, Julie has the most beautiful hair ever, but the smirk that is often on her face would also have to be described as the look of evil.
the gringo

Rod is definitely a momma boy. I remember either Gagme or Julie commenting on how he adored Rosa. His actions or rather lack of action during the great inquisition/unmasking confirms it. He never opened his mouth to tell his mother to shut up. Since that time he has made it clear to her that he is finished with her but it is way too little and way too late.

Pato and Jana on the other hand have always loved their mother because she is their mother, remember the touching hospital scene when Rosa had her heart problem and Pato was so loving but both of these very bright kids are now very disillusioned with her behavior. Both of them see her for the controlling sick woman she is and neither of them is giving her a pass. They may continue respect her as their mother but their love is no longer blind as Rod's is/was.

One of the best lines to date was when Rod tossed back his wine and told his mother you have made sure I will be unhappy all of my life and walked out. Oddly or maybe not so oddly it didn't seem to register with Rosa nor did it register how pithed everyone is with her. Talk about living in a dream world.

Hot Rod just needs to grow up. he seems to be stuck on the 'i am too sexy and i can talk love but only deliver if you are the perfect flawless one for me' mode and he has to get behind his own words of 'i will be there for you anytime anywhere for anything that comes our way'. Until he is readly to adopt the same values he preaches and expects from Luci, he is not ready for deserving her love. no ifs, ands or buts about it.

and a big part of the growing up is learning to LISTEN and UNDERSTAND before judging.

If we didn't have enough reason to despise Rod i just reread and remembered how he told Luci he was sorry he caused her mother this pain but the dumbass NEVER SAID HE WAS SORRY FOR CAUSING HER PAIN. Paz is right he didn't and doesn't deserve a woman like Luci.

Decie Girl- Yeah I was bugged by that too. I think if he started out a conversation with Luci by appologizing to her, then just sit back and listen, they would solve their problem.

But the day when he said he would put a stop to the divorce if SHE just asked him for another chance really irked me. The nerve!

thanks Vivi for you recaps but so sorry about the 2 hrs, I too enjoyed it and wish for more, like reading a good book. I would not like Rod to throw the wine on his mother "Honor thy parents" no matter how evil she is but I would really feel a great injustice if Rod ends up at the bar with that vicious witch, Gag Gala. I really have the most extreme urge to jump in on my tv to be part of the tn and I'll slap and wring the neck of that snake.
