Refugio Para el Amor #73 Tue 7/17/12 The Truth According to Rosa; Pato Gains Ground on Rod in the Pool
R: I told him the truth.
C: What truth Rosalena?!
R: The TRUTH. Only the truth Connie.
C: There is only one *truth* Rosalena! And if you had told him, Claudio would be here, incriminating you for giving away his daughter when she was a baby.
R: What are you saying to me? I’m not Claudio Linares. Each person reacts differently. If Claudio has remained so tranquil after I told him the truth, then what do you expect me to do?
R: (Smiling and looking at Connie like she’s the crazy one.) Connie, I just asked you for some advice about my son Rodrigo. I didn’t want to speak about Claudio Linares. Ay, sister. At times you are so strange.
P: That’s why I came Matilde. To tell the truth! To put Señora Rosalena in her place!
M: (Shaking her head.) Mi niña, Rosalena. (Oh, how I want to slap Mati each time she says that!)
P: Yes, Matilde. If your patrona hadn’t seen fit to tear my Luciana to pieces, I wouldn’t be here. But I’m not going to allow her to keep harming her!
P: Tell me Mati, La Señora Rosa knew exactly who my Luciana is, right?
M: Yes Paz. Yes she knew. She found out a little while ago.
P: And even so, she had the cynicism to treat her as she did? That woman is a demon disguised (disfrazado) as an angel!
M: No Paz. What it is, is that she has a great fear that if the truth is discovered her family would judge her for what she’s done. (I don’t see how this negates what Paz said. Can I slap Mati now?)
P: That is an absurd justification! Cowardice! Wicked/Despicable! (Canalla) Not the actions of a woman who flaunts her morality/rectitude, her religiosity. With greater reason Mati, that she SHOULD have treated my Luciana well, if simply just to respect the memory of the woman who gave her daughter over to her care. Did you tell her that I was willing to come here and tell the whole truth?
M: Yes. And she told me that she was willing to confront you.
P: Well here I am. And if it’s necessary, yes I will tell. I won’t do it for me, but for Luciana. Because she’s lost part of her life. At what moment did my Luci decide to come here to try her luck/make her way? I should have never permitted her to leave the pueblo.
M: What you need to keep clear in your mind is that even if Luci learns the truth, for her, her mother will always be you. She adores you and will eternally be grateful to you and Galdino for all you have done for her as her parents.

Loved Pato going to get Luci and all the happy smiles they exchanged, especially in front of Rod, who each day realizes that Luci may love him, but she likes his brother better, and his brother is crazy about her. Go Pato!
Poor Padre Honesto. Priests actually do have spiritual advisors. I wonder how they will proceed with this, Exorcism anyone???? Not really but she is going straight to hell. I think Anita asked the other day if the Padre had ever counseled anyone else besides Rosa. He counseled Luci.
Good for Paz and and the confrontation to come. At least Paz knows what she has done wasn't right, compared to Rosa who blames everyone else but herself.Frigid what a putz. She needs a good smack on that ear, jus' sayin'. I'm glad at least Mati put the radio on, so Frigid couldn't hear. Annoying woman. This smackdown between Rosa and Paz will be good.
Aldo, is so funny. I can see the guys having a taco stand, they should also sell that yummy grilled corn.
That Rosa, she just doesn't get it. She's right, everyone is all wrong and she can't see how she hurts anyone. I think, truely, she is heartless besides being a stepford pod person. Really no feelings at all. Poor Conny and everyone else that has to put up with her. What bugs me the most is she can't understand why Rod wants nothing to do with her. So clueless. He'll never forgive her for what she did to him, even though *dead to me Rod* isn't acting as a gentleman either.
Loved Luci being with Pato during his hydrotherapy. He does so need her for his recovery. Her cheerfullness helps him. Good for them they are happy together and screw *dead to me Rod* for being jealous. It should be eating him up.
So Gagme is going to begin the pursuit. I think she is going to be doing something shady. I wouldn't put it past her at all. Look at what she has already done.
Vivi I am conflicted too about Max. I hate what he did to Vicky and what he is doing to Aldo, but the way he treats his kids and he is very nice to Luci too. It's hard to hate him completely.
Poor Vio, she can't get a break from Marcial. Then his crazy wife shows up. I guess she doesn't beleive they were just talking. Many confrontations to come.
From Godspell and Sister Act
Oh, Happy Day (oh happy day)
Oh Happy Day (oh happy day)
When Jesus washed (when Jesus washed)
Jesus washed (When Jesus washed)
Washed her sins away
Oh Happy Day
Instead she is
On The Highway To Hell (AC/DC)
No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess her around
Hey satan, she paid her dues
Hey, Claudio look at her
She's on her way to the promised land
She's on the highway to hell
Highway to hell
And she's going down.
The more I see of Rod, he seems like a immature guy that needs to grow up; and if I were Luci I would be glad I found out what poor problem solving skills the guy has before I married him.
Loved Pato and Luci being friends and her encouraging him. Rod does himself no favors by continuing to act worse than a jerk. As Emaire noted, its good Luci found out now he has NO problem solving skills.
I know the writers probably won't shaft GS again and not give him the girl but he think Rod is acting even worse than his character did in QE.
Mads - yes, Max can be such a concerned dad and then turn into the evil guy who torments other young people who could be his children. My flashbacks to his drugging and cuffing Vicky prevent me from seeing his kindness to his kids in a better light.
Great recap although I was disappointed in the episode. I want Paz to light into Rosa and then go to Claudio and put an end to her lies.
I try to like Max because of his kids but then I think about poor Claudio and spending 20 years in the carcel and I get angry all over again. Rosa and Max deserve each other.
Yes, the guys really need to start a taco stand on real busy street corner. They will make a fortune.
I love Pato, such a sweet, caring young man. I wouldn't mind seeing he and Luci together in the end.
Rosemary Primera
Yes, I would add Connie and Padre to the list too, but Mati bugs me the most because she is the only one who attempts to defend Rosa. I can understand that being her sister, Connie would be hesitant. Padre seems to think he can pressure Rosa into telling the truth herself, which I guess would be good for her soul. My problem with Mati is that she says she cares for Luci and will protect her, but her actions say something else. No one comes before Rosa.
As for Luci and Pato- It was so nice seeing them both so happy, relaxed and smiling, until Rod came along and spoiled the mood with his scowling.
Mati and Conny both need a couple of good slaps. What Rosa is doing is doing is so wrong and they are in effect accomplices. I don't care how much you love someone loyalty has no place when someone is committing crimes and destroying lives. I'm starting to hope Mati loses her job and good kind Oscar dumps Conny. There is enough punishment to go around and they deserve some of it.
I am worried about those previews of Rosa snarling that Luci will hat Paz forever for deceiving her.I hope the woman has enough sense to say Luci isn't that kind of person not like her precious Rod who is. Alas I fear they are going to drag this out which bugs the heck out of me because Lord knows there are still plenty of nasty truths lurking in the wings.
Pato get a few more angel point for how he treats children. Both of the little ones are entranced with him and I remember my Dad telling me dogs and little kids can always tell who a person really is.
Rod "I don't want to see her" is obviously pithed that she and Pato get along so well. Just because he could so easily cut her out of his life he expects his brother and sister to do the same. Too bad for him that they can see who Luci really is while he being a blockhead can't.I wish he would just tell Gage me to stay the hell out of his life and mean it.
So she tries to control who has access to them.
If Patricio recovers and is able to pursue girls again she will really lose it, particularly since this is going to take a while and by that time Jana will be old enough to Get Serious about a guy.
There was an earlier observation about her wanting them to love her to the exclusion of loving anyone else. This is way beyond sick and I predict she will either commit suicide or end up in the manicomio.
I'll join you in the "Mati, shut up already" group. I'm also sick of her double talk. No matter what she says, I always have this sick feeling that if it came down to protecting anyone else or "her Rosa", she would choose Rosa. She is an enabler.
As for Paz, man she is becoming my hero. She use to drive me batty with the fainting and agonizing, but man, she's just straightening that spine and ready to do battle even if it means Luci is mad at her for a spell. Yep, a lionness.
Can we send Rod on a business trip again and let Pato and Luci get to know each other more without him? For all his protesting, I wouldn't put it past him to keep popping up at therapy sessions, etc. Get lost dude.
So if Luci graduates, what then. I would sort of like to see her head into some sort of professional career, or become a therapist herself, inspired by Pato. When Max is brought down and Rosa becomes the very "low class" entity she hates, I so want Luci to be this successful woman who made something of herself. Not sure if they would do a fast forward here though to allow for that.
"male version of cling-wrap" had me chuckling out loud. I so enjoyed your conversation translations, complete with embedded vocabulary: "My God, what cruelty (saña) against my daughter.”
Fun song lyrics Madelaine!
ITA with everyone wanting to slap some sense into Mati. Basta. And Karen, yes, Connie needs a wake up call too. Sibling or not - she is aiding and abetting Rosa and must stop participating in the cover up.
So glad Pato is not giving up on his friendship with Luci. Those vipers have totally beat her into the ground. And Rod has done nothing but add to the hurt. BTW, I wish Soto would highlight his hair - the very dark locks are reminding me of the horrible criminal he played in Verdad (Agree - Vivi? Karen?)
I can't wait to watch the Paz Rosa conversation - my money's on Paz. Hell hath no fury like a mother's daughter scorned.
Diana
daisynjay- I completely agree with you about what Luci should do after school. But, you also make the valid point that we are in a race against the clock at this point. There are so many things I would like to see happen before the end of this TN and there is such little time.
And even though I know it probably will not happen, I like seeing Luci and Pato together. When Ariche told Luci to come outside and he was there I got so excited. It is good to see Pato getting out of the house and doing what he wants to do. I am happy to see him in these moments where he is regaining a little bit of normalcy (which is hard to say about someone growing up in la Casa de Torreslanda). And though I really want him to end up with Luci, I would really like to see Pato with someone. Someone who can appreciate him because we all know at this point that he is a MAJOR catch.
I am anxiously awaiting the throwdown tonight between Paz and Rosa. The previews made it look like Rosa tries to put up a good fight. But I hope Paz pulverizes her.
Also loved your suggestion that Rodrigo try yoga, though I can't think of anyone less apt to engage in that discipline.
Actually, I love the scenes of Rodgrigo working out (not just because of his awesome pecs and deltoids) but because that is exactly how someone of his personality type would deal with stress. I don't have the muscles but that's how I deal with stress as well--with exhausting physical activity.
Of course it doesn't help him process his conflicting emotions and I guess we're going to see him angry, dazed and confused for months. So it goes in these fascinating but also irritating telenovelas.
Happy to get in line with y'all to slap Milquetoast Mati. She refuses to clear up a vital mystery by whining that Destiny will eventually take care of it. If Rosalena is über-controlling, her counterpart Mati is undercontrolling. She needs to do something else besides wringing her hands and going "oh dear..."
Still, her unmasking of Frigida and the use of a radio to make the conversation hard to hear last night was like an old-time spy maneuver. A fun scene.
Thanks again Vivi...you really get these recaps up fast!
Urban- ITA about Rosa wanting to control all her kids and wanting their love to be exclusively for her. Probably because he's her first born, Rod gets the brunt of it.
Daisynjay- Isn't it amazing the way Paz's spine gets rod straight when she gets determined about protecting one of her cubs? She looked like a soldier marching towards the entrance of Casa Torreslanda.
Diana- I think GS's highligts are there, we just can't see them when they slick his hair back so much. It looks so much better when they let the top part of his hair with the highlights loose. Surely, the hair/makeup people can see the difference. Oh well!
Daisynjay and Gretchen- I also want to see Luci become very successful in something once she has her diploma in hand. I remember when she looked in that book of ceramic art before she got savaged by the b/witches, and dreamed of her pieces being so beautiful and well known some day. She's always drawing designs for ceramics in her book. She could become a serious artist. Or Claudio might take her under his wing-- by rights, part of Empresas Torreslanda is his and Luci's. She caught on really quickly when she was helping Pato with his work. I also like the idea of her becoming a therapist, because she was also very good at doing that. She also seems to like to teach, and was Ariche's main tutor back in Het Het-- helping him with his homework and his flute lessons. There are so many options, but some of them wouldn't work without a time jump. We'll see.
"If Rosalena is über-controlling, her counterpart Mati is undercontrolling." How very true Judy.
It appears that the law of the Novela will once again be established: when a character says they are going to tell all (1) it ain't gonna' happen (2) it will take that character a minimum of 100 Capitulos to do so.
Mati's gonna' tell, Connie's gonna' tell, Padre Honesto's gonna' tell, Paz's gonna' tell, so far, squat. Whatever crazy mommie tells to Paz is gonna' be such a bright, shinning lie that Paz will buy it hook, line, and sinker. Probably that crap about Luci being Max's daughter.
Rufugio can be infuriating.
one thing (of the many things) that I can't stand about rosa is that no matter if every single person is screaming the truth in her face until they're blue she will NEVER see what she doesn't want to see. just wanna shake her & tell her to snap out of it, but she'll always think she's in the right.
couldn't tell you yesterday vivi, loved how you you recapped the dinner scene monday night, very funny. and of course great recap today as well!
jlk
Appreciate all the detailed recaps Vivi, and great comments too!
So many voices with such interesting perspectives and opinions. I'm so happy to be part of such a wonderful group. I appreciate all of the recappers and commenters for sharing their thoughts, insights and humor.

Rosa for all her craziness is slick. She has covered her bases pretty well. Mati and Conny are guilted into saying nothing, the good Padre could still tell Claudio that Luci is his daughter but he can not tell him about the grave desecration. After Rosa told the Padre about the baby switch and he told her he would tell, she reminded him about the seal of confession only to be told she hadn't been confessing when she told him so sly Rosa fixed that error and said she wanted to confess to him before she told her latest infamy.
As much as I detest the snoop sisters I'm waiting to see how long it will be before they use what they discovered to force Rosa to help Gagme get Rod back. I'm also very curious to see how she will go about it since he wants nothing to do with her. Oh right it is a TN she'll probably fake heart problems.
We often wonder how much time goes by and last night Dr. J commented to Rod that it had been one month from the time of the marriage to the time of the divorce. Odd considering how many full moons we'd seen. LOL
I think I remember Luci saying she wanted to be a teacher but she is sharp and if Claudio gets his hands on the TL legitimate business i could see her in a management position and dressed in a more sophisticated way at least until the pregnancy gets too advanced.
I'm wondering if Magda and Paz are going to get back to the barrio while Vee and Marcel's wife are in a gigantic cat figh.
I do wish Aldo and Rod would use a razor. What is it with novelas that there is always at least one or two scruffy dudes and one is usually the galan. I wouldn't let anybody near my sensitive skin with all that facial hair. We use to joke that Televisa must be low on their budget for razors.
Judy B- so glad you will be doing recaps with us. It's good to have you back. Always loved your recaps.
jlk- I don't think even if we slapped Rosa a good one she would snap out of it. The synapses in her brain are not firing on all cylinders. She needs a manicomio like yesterday. Meds would do a world of good for her, jus' sayin'.
Beats me how Rod can be so mad at both his mom and Luci at the same time. His mom only succeeded in breaking them up because he let her.
I sure hope Paz doesn't fold, but I'm wondering if Rosa has an ace up her sleeve.
I think that just about everyone has said it all--well almost. Has anyone noticed how cute Ariche and Marianita are together?
the gringo
In a lot of ways Rosa is as thick as a brick. She told Max and Conny that she had told Claudio the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth and neither of them believe her. They rightly told her if she had Claudio would have descended on them all with revenge in his mind, yet somehow she thinks if she had told him about Luci he would just peacefully ignore it. I guess when you are as coldhearted a parent as she is she just assumes eo is everyone else. Can not wait until he finds out what a witch she is.
I'd like to Luci become a famous ceramics artist. Then open a business selling her ceramics. Then expand the business and become world famous. Then tell Gala and her mooching mother Juli to suck it. Mostly that last part.
