Abismso de pasión #89 7/16/12: Can it Get Any More Irritating?

Ok, maybe it's me but this episode just pithed me off. It didn't help that there were NO English subtitles so I was unable to fall back on them during the important conversations (and there were only like, what, two of them...maybe?)

Lo Refrito
BANG!
Horacio: You are so screwed.
Carmina: No I'm not, you are. Ooo! Paper! Note from Kenia! Wait, we do have a way out. I'll keep my mouth shut and you keep your mouth shut.

Dam: Break up with Pal. You've got the road open for Elisa.
Gael: Dude. I broke up with Pal about four episodes ago.

Lo Nuevo the Short Version
  • Carmina and Horacio get their stories straight. He was helping her move to Begonia's. Too bad Gael saw them drive off and can verify that she was NOT gone "all afternoon."
  • Chente goes crash with Paolo's Phallocycle. Escuincle Baboso needs a kidney transplant. Tonia is gonna be screwed.
  • Padre and Gael talk really fast. I'm pretty sure Gael's synapses are starting to fire and he's wondering why Padre has always insisted that Gael and Dam be best buds.
  • ToadHead's body is discovered and Elisa wails and irritates all of Viewerville.
  • Carmina mentions ToadHead shooting himself before she's supposed to know how he died. Ooops. Elisa yells and demands to know how she knew that.
Seriously. That's really it. But if you insist on details:
Lo Nuevo in Detail
In Which Flashbacks and FF>> Opportunities Abound (Not necessarily as aired. I did some condensing)
  • Quique kvetches to Doc Dad about Sabrina's relationship with Paolo. The other girls the Italian Stallion has knows were experienced (code for sluts), but Sabrina is innocent. She could really get hurt. Doc Dad agrees to talk to Begonia. As he leaves, Quique asks Pal to go to the movies with him. Doc, the greatest freaking boss ever, grants Pal the rest of the day off. He'll take care of the filing she never does.
  • ING interrupts Doc's filing to tell him she'll be at a restaurant in Mérida around 8. He should meet her there. Later in the episode we see the stands her up. He tried to tell her he was going to be busy dealing with a family problem but ING wouldn't listen.
  • Elisa sits under a tree and flashesback to one of her last conversations with Dad in which she tells him she and Dam will never work and ToadHead tells her he just wants her happy. Lolita arrives to tell her that Papá has sent for her.
  • Guido calls Flor from jail. Quique isn't paying the bills anymore. Flor tells him not to worry. She and Dam are back together and he'll be paying the legal fees. They're getting married in two weeks! And since Fina is so worried about appearances, she'll make sure you're out for the wedding. Guido warns Flor about marrying a man whose mother will always be butting into the marriage. Flor and Guido hang up as Fina and Dam arrive. Dam assures Flor Guido will be at the wedding...his mom will take care of that. Flor smirks. Fina flicks the fan.
  • Sabrina and Paolo snog in the plaza. She gets a craving and Paolo goes to get a snack. Chente (now fully bandanahanded) macks on Sabrina. Paolo comes up and calls him an escuincle baboso and runs him off.  Chente steals and crashes the Phallocycle. Lolita screams. Paolo is pithed...his moto has been trashed again!
  • Carmina and Horacio have the truck all packed. Carmina tells him that they are to say that he came to help her move all her crap to the Tovar's and they were gone all afternoon. They never saw ToadHead. They drive off, unaware that Gael has seen them leaving. He rings the bell but no one answers.
  • Chente is unconscious in the street. The folks with heart call for an ambulance and a doctor. Paolo gripes about his moto. At home, Doc and Begonia are discussing the Sabrina. Begonia thinks Paolo is an ok guy since he has the Carmina Orange Seal of Approval. All that rapey snake business was Elisa's fault. Doc is pretty sure that it's a bunch of bunk since the whole world knows Carmina hates Elisa. Begonia lets him know that Carmina will be staying with them since she is having marital problems. The Ho arrives on cue and thanks Doc. Doc reminds her that it is HIS house and he doesn't want her there. If he has to, he'll say exactly why. Begonia is confused, but  Quique and Pal arrive just before the can of beans and worms gets opened. Doc is needed at the Centro de Salud.
  • Gael ponders why Elisa didn't tell Damián that they weren't hermanos and flashes back: to a young Gael preparing for a funeral and being told he has the OBLIGATION of saying good-bye to Rosendo. Padre comes home. Gael asks him why it is so important he and Damián be together on tragic occasions...like burying his sister; like when Rosendo died. Gael reminds Padre that he told him that is was his DUTY to say good bye to Rosendo. Padre says it's because Rosendo paid for his schooling. Things get heated (that's code for I had trouble understanding and the Spanish CCs are crap.) Padre thinks Gael is accusing him of keeping secrets. Gael says Padre didn't tell him about Dam's upcoming wedding nor did anyone tell Dam that Elisa is not his sister.
  • Chente is not dead. Doc Tovar explains that Chente's kidney is injured and there is internal bleeding. A transplant will be needed because this was the most convenient way to out Tonia about the Gab business. Of course, Brau is ready to sign up for testing because Chente is his son. Tonia insists on being tested too, you know...just in case. She is so screwed.
  • Elisa and Lolita arrive home and the wailing begins. It grates on my nerves. I ain't recapping this hot mess.
  • Maru and Lucio return from their dinner date. He is embarrassed because she had to pay. He left his wallet. Maru finds the wallet between the cushions. She drops it as she hands it to him.The both reach down. Sparks, but no contact. They are interrupted by a phone call. It's Lolita telling him that Toad is dead
  • Begonia is indignant. Carmina is not the one who should have been thrown out. It should have been Toad. Carmina claims she hasn't seen Toad since the day before.
  • Padre and Gael talk fast (remember the code.) Padre talks about Dam and Flor. He fusses about Gael and Paloma. How would Gael feel seeing Pal with some other guy? Gael claims nothing would happen. Gael leaves in a huff. I need help with this conversation.
  • Quique and Paloma are strolling the plaza now that the Chente emergency is under control. Quique admits there was a time he was prejudiced (predispuesto) against her 'cause of gossip.  Pal messes with Quique and says she felt the same way at one time. She talks him into buying her a snack, but we'll never know about it because it was edited. QTH? Was the female vendor topless? They run into Dam and Flor. Flor brags about getting married soon and says she'll invite Pal. Pal says she doesn't go to weddings that are doomed for failure. Almost girl fight. Quique admits it upsets him that Flor is marrying. Pal can't catch a break from any guy.
  • Elisa won't leave her Papito's side. Lucio manages to drag her away while she wails and screams. He takes note of the gun, the note from Kenia and a bag. Horacio arrives on the scene and recites his alibi to Lucio as Carmina instructed. Lucio calls Carmna at Begonia's. Carmina pushes until Lucio tells her Augusto died. Carmina acts surprised. Begonia goes with her to the house.
  • In her bedroom, Elisa wails some more. Elisa figures Lolita was sent to fetch her so he could say good bye. Elisa thinks Toad must have killed himself because he felt he was responsible for Kenia's death.
  • Dam tells Flor she didn't need to be so rude to Pal. Flor starts to figure out that Dam is not as happy about the wedding as he should be. She accuses him of wanting to keep it secret. Dam really doesn't answer that question.
  • Carmina arrives and hugs Lucio. She plays the role of grieving widow. She wants to be with Augusto, but Horacio tells her the authorities are there. That stops Carmina in her tracks. Lucio  tells her that Toad killed himself (se quitó la vida.) They roll out the body. Carmina wants to know where they are taking him and Lucio tells her there has to be an autopsy. It's the law. Carmina says it's clear he shot himself with the rifle and why can't they just let him rest in peace. Ruh roh, Lucio never told her HOW Toad died. Just that he killed himself. Elisa arrives for one more round of screaming: How did you know he shot himself if you weren't even here?? Answer me!!!!!!!!!! Yeah. Whatever. Nothing is going to happen. There are too many episodes. left.
Avances
  • Pal and Gael get it on.
  • Dam and Flor do not.

Gracias amiga! I love your short version, what a hoot. But I loved the long version too.

This was hilarious: "A transplant will be needed because this was the most convenient way to out Tonia about the Gab business." No kidding. Can't a young buck like that live on one kidney? Or maybe they were both damaged.

OMG the Elisa wailing was unbearable. Thank goodness for the FF button.

Lucio complained his house and life are a mess. Maru can find his lost wallet. Lucio should marry her immediately.

That fast conversation between Padre and Gael, I think you pretty much got it. Gael was explaining that he broke up with Paloma because he respects her. Padre ribs him about what if Paloma were with some other guy? Gael denies he would care but stomps out of the room, thus proving he probably does care.

The edited snack was undoubtedly some sort of obvious product placement, probably for something we cannot purchase in the U.S. I've seen that sort of wacky thing before, but I like your topless vendor theory MUCH better.

Good grief, I muted her, I fast forwarded her, but Elisa still gave me a headache.

Hee, stupid Carmina slipped up. I can't wait to see how she slithers out of this one.

Thanks Sara! This was terrific.

Yes Sylvia, Sara's recap both short and long was great. And yes poorly written Elisa was difficult to tolerate. Why do writers make the main protagonists so insipid?

Since I could care less about Gabino's spawn, I hooted when Paolo kept moaning about his moto. It's a small town and his 'cycle has been wrecked twice. Poor almost rapist.

So I'm thinking that the only possible donor for 'Cente will be Gab and the latter will NOT donate his kidney (just a guess).

Horacio has become so stupid at this point I don't even think a heroic death can redeem his mess. He just needs to die so Lolita can move onto Braulio.

Yes the Orange Menace will slither out of her error but shouldn't we be in the final weeks now?

Karen, "Poor almost rapist." Bwahahaha! You're a funny girl. I have to admit, I felt bad for Paolo's bike too. See Mr. Hunky Slimeball, you need to get outta Dodge pronto.

We should be getting close to final weeks. I predict 7.5 to 8 weeks left.

I love your recaps Sara. To the point and when we get an episode like last night, short and sweet is plenty. Bless you for having to deal with this one.

Vicente is a snot, period. Should have taken that bandana and strangled him with it. I too just loved Paolo's reaction--he sure loves that girl, er Moto. Poor Sabrina, such a choice she has, Paolo or Snot. That whole Tovar family has no luck in the love department. I so really want Gab to be the only donor, Tonia needs to be busted. Cripes, Lola helps save her son and she still has to get, well, snotty. Now we know where her lovely little spawn really gets it from.

Best scene--seeing II stood up. What a cretin. She really thinks she's hot doesn't she? Blech.

I think the producers hired Quentin Tarantino to direct these last two episodes. Touch of the master, keep characters covered in blood through their whole scenes. Lovely. I put the Weepsa#1 wailing on mute.

Carmina really isn't very bright is she? Smart chick, mention the murder weapon the minute you walk in the door. I'm also assuming once again, no CSI or police detectives in this TN. That has to be a first. Usually a TN with multiple murders always has a "crack" copper in the cast. The sheer way the gun was placed carefuuly near the body and pointing,a CSI person would raise an eyebrow. Plus where was the blood spatter if he did it in the den. Just sayin'...

Not lovin' the previews. I really don't like where they are going with Gael. So now he's going to do the one thing he said he wouldn't--make out with Pal though he doesn't love her cause he sees her with QuiQui? I am almost hoping it is QuiQui and Pal and she's dreaming it's Gael. It's just too conventient for TN pairings if they go there. Was still hoping he would wind up alone, makes more sense.

And I usually love Padre/Gael scenes, but for the love of everything, Padre tell the MAN already who he really is. You would think the Padre would have learned that secrets don't work in this town.

About to go out into the tropical weather, in NE Ohio. Hate. This.Summer.

Sara: A wonderful recap - thank you for the embedded vocabulary. I had so many favorites including: "Chente (now fully bandanahanded)", "Gael's synapses are starting to fire" and "Tonia insists on being tested too, you know...just in case. She is so screwed." Most excellent.

Vincente crashed in a matter of what, three seconds? I guess that anvil got tired of hovering and wanted to land pronto. I would not want to be in Tonia's shoes. Karen, I also suspect that: "...I'm thinking that the only possible donor for 'Cente will be Gab and the latter will NOT donate his kidney".

Dear Dr. Tovar needs to attend a class on avoiding the worst possible partners. First Carmina, now Ingrid? I agree daisy, was so happy he stood Ingrid up. Begonia has redemption potential, but we will have to wait and see.

I was surprised at the previews for Gael and Palmoma. Really? Poor Enrique.

Diana

Sara: Great job. I think Quique bought Paloma popcorn (palomitas). '

Anyway, I don't know why, but, I think we have to look at Dr. Tovar a little closer. At first, I thought he was just a dupe for Carmina, and that he was taken in by her in a weak moment. Although he did protest about her living in his house in this episode.

But, then there is Ingrid. He gets that faraway look in his eyes when he sees her. There she sits in Mérida drinking wine all by herself. Maybe she'll write him off. Maybe not. He had a busy night. First, the Sabrina problem. Then Chente at the hospital. And who knows, maybe he'll prescribe a calmante for Elisa so that we won't have to watch and hear her wail at the funeral.

Sara, Thank you for soldiering through this sobfest and delivering the recap! My favorite lines:
-- Gael: Dude. I broke up with Pal about four episodes ago.
-- Things get heated (that's code for I had trouble understanding and the Spanish CCs are crap.)
-- Elisa and Lolita arrive home and the wailing begins. It grates on my nerves. I ain't recapping this hot mess.

I could just hear Paolo thinking, "Oh maaa-aaan! There goes my moto, again! Darn that little twerp!"

I completely "got it" that Lucio wondered how Carmina knew that Augusto shot himself, but…. DUH…. one would see a big hole in his chest and blood everywhere and just assume. Did I miss something last night?

Memo to Ingrid: Edmundo's Just Not That Into You.

daisynjay - I hear you on the summer. I'm going out into this hot, humid weather to play golf. Ugh...

Sara- Like our other girlfriend Cynderella, you have an amazing talent for taking over the top tradgedy and making it into comedic gold. Thanks for taking one for the team. The wailing actually wasn't as bad as I thought, as the episode focused mainly on other happenings in town, instead of the Augie suicide/killing mess.

I really hope the previews are wrong and Pal and Gael aren't getting it on. I so liked seeing her and Quique together this episode. They actually joke around and laughed and looked relaxed. With Gael she's always on high alert-- looking for any signs of love or disinterest. Trying to please him. So tiring.

Doris- Carmeany couldn't know that Augie shot himself because when she came into the house Lucio didn't let her into the study and Augie's body was already in a body bag.

Thanks Sara! I skipped this one because I couldn't bear to see Elisa find her dad's body and the inevitable waterworks. Too bad I missed the trashing of the phallocycle again LOL!

How many episodes does this have left? Isn't it still playing in Mexico? So are we sure we know how many episodes total? I'm surprised people think we will be in últimas semanas soon - I thought this was a long TN.

Thanks Sara... for both the long and the short of it. Your recaps are always delightful. Sorry about the CCs.

I'm still reeling over Augusto's death. I know that he was unlikeable to most but he was just about the unluckiest man alive (now dead).

Another donor prospect for Chente... Paloma. Don't we all think that she is his half-sister?

Carlos

Viewerville knows about Paloma's possible relation, but does the rest of La Ermita?

I am not pleased that the writers gave us great chemistry and potential with Quique and Pal last night and then gave us steamy avances with Gael. Ramona is never wrong so why do they keep pushing Gael and Pal on us?

OH EM GEE Sara! what a brilliant way to turn a totally irritating episode into comic GOLD like others have said. i won't copy other fav lines.. i pretty much agree with all, especially Pasofino's liking the Gael line in the short synopsis and Diana's favs.
anyway, wanted to bring a little more detail to a couple things.
when they all arrived at the Chente the idiot crash scene, Paolo only cared about his bike so Enrique turns to Sabrina and says stte of 'SEE?? see what a jerk/A__H___ you have sets your eyes on?'

i dont think Edmundo actually intended to set up II, it is just like others have noted, a very busy night for him, and its not even over... first he had to go home to talk to Sabrina about Paolo so he meant to possibly meet II later on at Merida. but when he got surprised at home with the new guest, none other than Carmina, he was about to pop the can of worms on her when Paloma and Quique run in to fetch him. Then the CHente status won't let him leave the clinic so II was stood up, which i think is a GOOD THING, keeps Inmundo out of further trouble.

Also the convo between Gael and Padre was pretty much as others have said. One more detail: Padre tells Gael that he should talk to Dam and tell him that Elisa and him are not siblings, but Gael says that if Elisa wanted to keep that truth from him, she must have her reasons and he will respect them. I believe this is why Padre got mad at him and yelled for him to sit down, but when Padre brought up the what if of Paloma finding someone else, that is when Gael got really mad and left in a huff.

more comments to come later, have to go sign a lease for my apt when i sell my house.
Totally agree on Lucio should marry Maru, that is one of the things i used to do for my husband, when he lost something he would go on a rage, while i just calmly looked and found it for him.
also on Elisa being totally annoying last night, even though her acting all in all was better than her usual.
Lolita does get the acting prize, though...
was funny to watch Flo flaunt an oral invitation to Paloma and Enrique for her wedding with Dam, and Paloma flat out slapping it back at her face saying 'i dont usually go to weddings where i know there won't be a 'lived happily ever after' outcome.'

I finally found a blurb that says the tentative ending date in Mexico is Sept 2nd. Last night they showed episode 126 in Mexico, so we are 37 episodes behind, or about 7.5 weeks. So this should be playing until near the end of Oct in the US. In other words, we are only about 2/3 of the way through?

Sara I'm so with you on the Pal pairing. But I have hope that the preview is misleading. Hey, they made it look like Elisa was in the room when Assgusto was shot, and it turns out she wasn't.
So I'm holding on to a dream sequence, or Pal making out with QuiQUi and imagining Gael. I'm pretending that comment by Padre didn't happen. If I'm wrong, the writers are going to be finding a few anvils over their heads from yours truly. Hate "pat" plot lines just to make something happen that makes no sense.

Anyone else wondering what kind of funeral/burial Assgusto gets. If justice is served, he gets a poor looking grave-site like he gave Steff. Or if they are buried together ( thinking Elisa may have a say in that), that a decent marker is finally put up.

What we learned last night:

Elisa finally had a valid reason to cry.

Elisa obviously didn't think what Augusto had to say to her was important, since Lolita found her by the tree in the day and they didn't arrive back home until night, after strolling through the town and staying at the hospital with Chente.

Chente is a dumb@$$

Tonia knows she's about to be busted.

Gael is suspicious of the whole Rosendo thing.

Carmina is a lying liar who lies, Lucio & Elisa know she's lying and Gael can prove the lie.

Begoña finally has some good gossip to spread around.

Maru & Paloma have the same pathetic piano music.

AVANCE:

Paloma learns to prove she's woman enough for Gael.

Just wondering how one shoots oneself in the chest or stomach with a rifle. Did Augusto have unnaturally long arms or something?

Audrey, thank you for the update on length of this show. I guess I was going on the assumption they would stay with the originally planned 126 episodes. Silly me.

Asshat - Rest in Pieces.

Anon207 - Oh no, the same sad piano music for Pal and Maru? I always say the music never lies; does this mean Maru's not going to have it easy with Lucio? They both deserve a nice, comfortable relationship.

It’s an odd thing about this novela. Every now and then an episode comes along that is, at least in part, powerful – like Friday’s, for example. where the Augusto-Carmina scenes were genuinely disturbing and upsetting; and where Damián and Gael’s scene over Kenia’s grave moved me to tears.

But not last night. I was sooooo glad to we got to read it in SaraSpeak.

“Dude, I broke up with Pal about four episodes ago.”

“Doc, the greatest freaking boss ever, grants Pal the rest of the day off.”

“Flor smirks. Fina flicks the fan.”
NM note: and I nod like mad -- I know all about the fan-flick ‘cause Sylvia told me.

“Chente (now fully bandanahanded)”

“Begonia is confused, but Quique and Pal arrive just before the can of beans and worms gets opened.”
NM note: So shall we call this phenomenon “revelatio interruptus”?

“Things get heated (that's code for I had trouble understanding and the Spanish CCs are crap.)” NM note: Maybe. But does anyone really need to know more than that?

“A transplant will be needed because this was the most convenient way to out Tonia about the Gab business.”

And I just ADORE your last paragraph:

“Elisa arrives for one more round of screaming: How did you know he shot himself if you weren't even here?? Answer me!!!!!!!!!! Yeah. Whatever. Nothing is going to happen. There are too many episodes. left.

I’m sorry to go all quote-crazy on you, but I found it hard to contain myself. This may be one of my favorite recaps of all time.

Did anyone else notice that Elisa snot-cried last night? I felt bad for Angelique, not so much for Elisa. And I slipped quietly over to the Quique table on the Patio (which I notice is unaccountably close to the Paloma table.)

And was it very wrong of me to worry about her getting blood on Dolores’s beautiful lavender stole?

Or who was going to have to clean up all that spilled booze and broken glass from Friday?

"AssHat rest in pieces."

So wicked. So funny. Sylvia -- you kill me. (Figuratively. I'm talking figuratively.)

I will concede that promo monkeys have misrepresented things before. Maybe Gael and Pal do not *really* get it on. They did have a fuzzy dream filter on the lens.

NM- I am glad you mentioned the glass and booze from Friday. When Toad started making that mess the first thing out of my mouth was "Dammit, Lolita is going to have to clean that up you a$$." And thank you for you praise.

Thanks to everyone. I'm glad you liked it. I felt like this episode was all over the place and maybe that's why it annoyed me so much.

"Carmina is a lying liar who lies" Indeed. AND gets away with it...for now.

Karen-I agree that Horacio has become less and less a candidate for a heroic sacrificial death. I'm pretty much done with him.

What's the death toll?

--Steffie
--Rosendo
--Child of Rosendo and Carmina (which is the 2rd illegitimate one that we know of)
--Blanca
--Kenia
--Augusto

Did I miss anyone?

If the autopsy doesn't show that Augusto was murdered then:

A. The medical examiner is a moron.

or

B. Carmina manages to get to the medical examiner with blandishments or threats or both.

Hmmm. I need to use commas.

or

C. It's a TN and the writers cant be bothered with reality/facts. :-)

Oh jeez. Apparently I need to learn the use of apostrophes as well.

-_-

OK, well I couldn't stand not knowing what Paloma and Enrique were eating so I watched the scene online. They ordered bags of tostitos or chips, definite product placement for the chips brand, the bags were slit open, then the vendor piled on some sauces and condiments. Here's a video of something similar, it starts at about 2:15 minutes. They are called Tostitos or Tostilocos when a whole bunch of other things are added (jicama, japanese peanuts, cueritos, peppers, etc.) Basically a frito pie, Mexican street food version.

Here is a video of something similar, the tostitos start at about 2:15 minutes:Tostitos/Tostilocos

No worries Sara. Apparently I like to repeat myself. Must. Proofread.

Thanks, Cap'n!! I was thinking last night that something like this has come up before. Where was it we discussed opening the bag and adding stuff?

Or am I confusing Caray with some other site?

Who knows? We are always talking about food here. It is 8:00 a.m. right now and all I know is I want some salty chips with more salty crap on top, how pathetic. Thank goodness I don't have any doritos in the house.

Great recap of a crazy episode.

Carmina moving in with BeGoneYa? WTF? Doesn't she know that Carmina was boinking the doc?

Must erase the mental image of Carmina messing with the crime scene. Man, that's cold.

I guess there were 120 episodes originally planned, but episode 126 played last night in Mex. I read something from April saying they had extended the novela - maybe 26 more episodes? So maybe there will be 146 episodes, something like that. Hard to keep this stuff straight, especially if the original novela is still airing.

Uh oh. Extensions= estupideces.

They did the doctored bag of tostitos thing on La Que No Podia Amar, where Tostitos product placements are kept intact.

Thanks, Audrey! Maybe that's where I remember is from.

Holy whatever!! 146 episodes. I don't even want to think of how hey will keep this one going. They may have to invent all new plot lines, or at least I hope so, otherwise this may get painful. And if they go there, may the good TN gods hear me and make II go away well before we get to the end. I couldn't take those blasted tendrils for that much longer.

that sounds pretty messy for a street food, they would both have to go wash their hands if they need to pick out the flooded fritos out of the bag with all the messy stuff on them.
then again in LHDM Fernando (Mario Duarte) was eating empanadas (fried meat pies) and kept pouring tablespoonfulls of a dip sauce that usually is made of cirtus/garlic/onion/oil/(hot sauce optional but we know this character cannot handle heat from another scene but in mexico they definitely would include a level of 'heat' in there too) mixture for a taste kick.

A wonderful dinner is paired with a good wine......

A lovely party is richer in a beautiful dress.....

A great game is best watched from a fantastic seat....

And Capitulo #89 of our Passion Pit was best enjoyed with......SARA!

I won’t quote your fabulous lines again, others have already done that, but I have to agree, we really needed “SaraSpeak” to get us through that “sobfest” of an episode. I did it the best way, read Sara’s work first and then watched the program.......chuckling all the way. Thanks Sara! (I still can’t believe you aren’t super organized, your recaps certainly are!)

Yes, sometimes, not often, our novelas are powerful and real. Of course, one of the first things Elisa did was question how Augusto could put have put Kenia before her by choosing death. (Score one again for Carmina.) Also, she felt guilty because she hadn’t made it back to talk to her father. (Yes, she was too busy walking around town!) Those emotions seemed very real. I was so glad that Elisa has so strongly accused Carmina, maybe these doubts will intercede with her feelings of guilt. I thought “makeup” did a goofy job on Elisa’s bloody look, her face and neck looked like what a 2 year old does when she gets in mommy’s vanity!

Ole Flo is good, first Damian was chiding her for her insensitivity to Enrique, then suddenly he was on the defensive for wanting to “hide” the wedding. I need to study her techniques, it might come in handy to divert a conversation with my husband some day!!!!

I was proud of Lucio when he had the sixth sense to give Carmina a very tepid hug at the murder scene, he knows something!

Carlos, two good adjectives for Augusto, "misunderstood" from yesterday and 'unluckiest" from today.........

Embezzling: Gabino & Paolo (Alfonsina); Paolo (Guido)

I'm sure many more crimes & deaths will occur.

Thank you Sara! This whole TN is irritating. Stopped watching a while back only read recaps. The bad ones keep getting away with stuff and the good ones just can't finish a thought, as if that wasn't bad enough the girls are stalkers.

It's also sad that Augusto will never know that Alfonsina arranged to have his greenhouse burned down. That act was the one that permanently put him on the corner Bitter Ave and Cruel Street.

As a recapper-extensions can be nice just because when you get to the estupideces you can just write FF>> in your notes and in the recap. The more extensions, the more FF>> moments (as seen yesterday and during 75% of TdA.)

I also thought that sauce laden tostitos in a bag looked messy...but oh so delicious.

Thanks for the list o' crimes Anon207!

Today while reading "Casi una Mujer" I learned the word for ringlets/tendrils: tirabuzón. Now, can anyone confirm if this is a compound and if so, of what?

Sara, thanks for the lovely silk purse. And here I thought that sow's ear had nothing good to offer. You're da bomb!
Loved all the great comments - rest in pieces, oh yeah...

Anon207, your crimes list was hilarious. I loved the blackmail list.

Sara, I just found some info about tirabuzon. It originally comes from the French tirebouchon, with tire being pull and bouchon being cork, hence corkscrew. But somewhere along the line the Spanish buzon was swapped in because it sounds like bouchon. So now tirabuzon means corkscrew, or corkscrew curl, even though the direct translation is "pull mailbox" instead of "pull cork". (Please forgive the lack of accents and italics, too much work.)

I'm so glad they killed Augusto before extending this show. Thank you writers! For once you got it right.

Thanks for the etymology, Cap'n! I had also looked up "buzón" and figured "pullmailbox" couldn't be right.

Great lists, Anon207. But let's not forget that Gabino was the "autor intelectual" of Blanca's murder. It was Gabino who put Horacio up to it. (He wanted Lucio dead but it was Blanca who ended up trapped in the house.)

Sylvia, you beat me to it, you speedy word nerd you. So now we've moved on to verb-noun compounds borrowed into Spanish. oooh my heart be still.

Novela Maven, we word nerds can't help ourselves can we? Tirabuzon was a little mystery just screaming to be solved. I got the info from Google books, "Compound Words in Spanish: Theory and History" By María Irene Moyna. There are many more examples of some great compound words there.

A whole book on compounds? *swoon*

No we can't, Sylvia.

Source duly noted.

I went to WordReference.com, clicked on "definition" after finding "tirabuzón". That offered a link to RAE which is my main source for etymology in Spanish.

I love it the "corkscrew" is also a compound in English and as usual it is a NOUN-VERB while in Spanish and French it is a VERB-NOUN.

Sara:

Your recap was great—sooo much better than the capitulo. I especially liked your short version, Hee hee hee.

You all know how we love Padre Guadalupe over on the Patio of Lowered Expectations. His table is always abustle with people dropping off gifts of sugary sweets and good wine and bumping fists with the good Father. But right now my chaste boyfriend Padre Lupe is on my sh!# list. Why can't he tell Gael that he and Dam are brothers? Have we been told specifically that Rosendo told Lupe that Gael was his kid during the sacrament of confession? If not, this is just another murky blurring of the Telenovela 'priests have to keep all secrets' rule. I hate it.

For the love of the Sainted Patrick and all the Angels, can we give our Heroine Elisa something to do——besides wail? Now she has caught Carmina with TOO MUCH INFORMATION...Run with it, child!!! Kick your toxic Tia's tiny little butt!

Elisa, you are the PROTAGONISTA. Become a girl detective, wrench those shorts out of your nether regions and figure this thing out!

Sara, stellar job, amiga. This recap could have been REALLY painful but you made me laugh out loud instead.

EJ

EJ - THIS!!!!!!!!!!!! Love your whole comment!!

Anon 207:

Really nice list——AGAIN. You have some kind of mind, Anon 207. Can we call you An? I feel like we might be on a first name basis with you by now.

In psychology we used to call the ability to compile disparate date, pull it together, make sense of it all and spit it back out in some kind of organized and sensible fashion 'synthetic thinking, from the idea of synthesizing—not synthetic,as in 'fake'. It was considered quite an excellent kind of intelligence to have, back in the Jurassic period, when I was in school.

Nowadays, brain and computer scientists try to get computers to do it (think IBM's WATSON), and while they can do the pure data compilation very quickly, computers tend to miss the nuances, the synthesizing, the real thinking part.

Again, thanks for providing us with another thoughtful list from your fine synthetic (compliment!) thinking mind.

ok not sure if its been cleared yet, but yes 'tirabuzon' or in a similar spanish word 'sacacorchos' (gadget to pull out corks) is a ringlet or swirl corkscrew.
whether it has another meaning in spanish, not sure.

Elisa, you are the PROTAGONISTA. Become a girl detective, wrench those shorts out of your nether regions and figure this thing out!

Love this!

I can't believe no one has told Damian that Elisa isn't his sister! The poor guy is in hell thinking that all this time he's been lusting after his sister! It is so cruel to not unburden him; whether Elisa is interested in getting back together with him is entirely beside the point.

Vivi in DC - thanks for clearing up for me that Augie's body was already in the body bag when Carmina arrived. I was fiddling with my iPhone while watching, so I did miss that.

I am sitting at the QuiQui + Paloma table, chained to the leg, and refuse to move! They'll have to drag me away from it while I am kicking & screaming. As much as I am in love with Gael (he is my secret boyfriend), he. has. no. chemistry. with. Paloma.

I'll bet Augusto is glad he got killed off now, so that he was spared the extension of this show.

What if Doc Tovar is also the local medical examiner?

Julia:

People keep trying to tell Dam but then, you know, revelatio interruptus all over again!

EJ- I love your entire comment.

Emilia- I love the new pic with the grandbaby! Congratulations to you and Abuelo Mike. :)

Anon207- Brilliant list, as always.

If you poured Teresa and Elisa in a blender and mixed them up to make one protagonista, Terelisa, you would have the perfect mix; kind, loving, but able to kick **** all over town. I shudder to think what Terelisa would wear each day, made for the office low cut couture jackets, an artificial flower and short shorts!

Or you might just get a constantly sobbing entitled social climber, wearing short low-cut cocktail dresses with cowgirl boots at all hours of the day!

Julia, "entitled," not fair, Teresa used her plentiful assets to gain her entitlements!

I would *totally* watch Terelisa!!

NM-I keep forgetting to say how much I love "revelatio interruptus"

This is very funny.

They did a short interview with Angelique Boyer on "El Gordo y la Flaca" today and asked her about her crying scene when she discovered her father dead and she said she practiced crying for a whole month before the scene was shot. She would get home and if the garage door stalled she would cry, etc. She seems to have a great sense of humor in real life.

Hi all,
My computer at home is on the fritz so I'm sneaking in some time on the library computer. But time is about to run out!

Loved the recap. Loved the comments. Who cares if the show sucks?

EJ, "wrench those shorts out of your nether regions and figure this thing out!" Snort! OMG that's too funny.

Novelera, I have seen Boyer interviewed before and she was truly delightful. I'm glad you shared your story because next time she cries it will make me smile.

JudyB, not I. The suckier the show the funnier the recap.

Daisynjay, Sara, Vivi and Sylvia—

Sara got me going today. I had to give our heroine a little encouragement.

N Maven: This was priceless...
