Refugio Para el Amor #78 Wed 7/25/12 Paz worries, and worries, and worries.....

I apologize in advance for forgetting some of the minor characters names. My first blog for this novela and I hadn't paid attention to all the names. Here it goes! ======================================== We pick up where we left off yesterday, with Paz telling Licenciado Linares that she must see him in person to speak about Luciana. He agrees to come by later. She dramatically says to Magda, “The time has come to tell El Licenciado that Luciana is the daughter he thought was dead.” (gasp) Paz anxiously wrings her hands (as usual) as Magda and Estelita assure her it’s time Linares knew the truth. She’s held on to this secret long enough. (Duh, you think?) Paz repeats her real concern is how Luciana will react to the news. She speaks to Galdino, praying to give her the words to say to Linares and to help Luciana understand everything they did, they did out of love. The phone snaps her out of her trance. It’s Pato looking for Luciana. Now she worries over what he could possible want with her Luciana. Eeeesh. Pato has just called to see how Luciana is getting along with her studies and promises to help her with math. School Campus Jana assures Lula that everything is fine in CupidVille. It’s just that Boris is convinced she (Jana) has a thang for luscious Lorenzo. Lula senses something’s up. Jana agrees Lorenzo is luscious and everything but now that he’s a jailbird....well….. – WHAT!!!! Lula says no way she can possible feel anything for him and never mind that her loca mama would never agree to a relationship with him. Jana explains, not too convincingly, that they’re just friends. Lula doesn’t seem convinced and Boris comes back just then and they’re off. TOODLES!! Airport Ariche and Rodrigo arrive from their excursion. Rod once again promises he will always look after Luciana. They spit promise to be BFF’s. Toreslanda Home At the dinner table, it’s only Jana, Connie, and Roselena. Connie understands Rosie’s wish to have the family together but has to realize everyone has a busy schedule. Gala walks in just then to announce she’s on her way to Colombia for an interview and if all goes well, she won’t be back (if only). Roselena insists she join them for dinner tomorrow for a proper send off. Gala does her part to pretend she couldn’t possibly…..but, ok. Apartment house Rod brings Ariche home and he tells Luciana how exciting the plane ride was. Luciana tells Rod they’re leaving tomorrow. When Rod says he hopes to see Ariche again soon, she tells him that won’t be likely as they’re not planning to ever return. Rod: Nunca? Luciana: Nunca! Ariche: Nunca, sob, sob, sob. Dramatic music ensues as our hunkalicious hero walks away and runs smack into Pato who explains he’s there to help Luci with her math. Luci joins them and she and Pato leave our hero standing there, shaking his head. Pato takes to teaching like a pato takes to, well, you know. Luciana repeats about her struggles with math, he shares he struggled with grammar and we have a few lovely filler scenes of them surrounded with study paraphernalia. We later see Luciana wheeling Pato into the apartment courtyard. They’re pleased as punch with their progress and Pato wishes her luck. As she walks away, Pato asks Genaro what he would do if he could do anything. Genaro hadn’t put much thought into that. Pato says he knows what he would do: he’d stay her with Luciana – awwwwwww. Estelita’s Depa Everyone’s in the kitchen with Estelita: Vio, the kids, Magda, Paz. Vio takes the kids out for ice cream and Paz commences with her worrying about spilling her guts to Linares. Magda tells her to stop it already. She’ll soon see that everything will turn out ok. Paz explains she just wants to go back to her pueblo. She’s worried about Lorenzo, she’s worried about Luciana, she’s worried about Linares, she’s worried about global warming, she’s worried about the price of wheat. Ok, I lied about the last two, but you get the gist. This woman’s worried about every darned lil ol’ thing! Estelita points out the obvious that this confession will change all their lives but it’s best to get it over with once and for all. Magda chimes in as well, saying Linares deserves to know the truth. Uh, yeah! WAAAAH, Paz doesn’t want Luciana to end up hating her. Estelita says, “Nonsense, how can she hate you. You’re her mother. You provided her with love and a home. She’ll understand.” No, no, no….Paz isn’t done agonizing over this yet. She must speak with Linares alone, face to face. Magda doesn’t help. She thinks Linares may die of a heart attack to learn that his daughter is actually alive and well. Ay, Magda. That just serves to drive poor old Paz into a panting tizzy, saying Luciana will leave her fo’ sho’. Licenciados, squared Barrera stops Linares just as he’s leaving the office to give him the good news that he was able to convince the judge to hear him out about the fraud case. In fact, he’s ready to see him in a few hours. Darn and he was just on his way to Dona Paz’s cuz she had something urgent to tell him. Barrera convinces him they can’t blow this chance to clear his name. Torre Torreslanda: Rod’s friends (sorry, forgot their names) come into his office telling him the old man is looking for him, and he’s still pithed! Rod can imagine, there are a few missed calls on his cell. He tells them about his day with Ariche and how happy the flight made him. The guys can tell Rod’s not happy. Rod leaves after getting a call from Dad. The guys stay behind talking about how bad Rod must be feeling and how they must help him get over this. Nicole’s Shop Nicole asks if Vicky has straightened out the mess with her two bf’s. Vicky assures her everything is fine and she will no longer be seeing Aldo. This doesn’t make Nicole happy. She was hoping Vicky would dump el osito. His wife is a VIP and …… Vicky doesn’t let her finish and pleads for her job. Somewhere in a plaza somewhere in Mexico, D.F. Vio is with the kids enjoying paletas when ho! What have we here? Marcial is stalking her! We just see him in the distance, whispering her name. No contact is made…..yet. Maximeanie’s Office Max admonishes Rod for not answering his phone. They argue about the biofuel. They go back and forth a bit with Rod conceding this may not be the right time for biofuel. He takes this opportunity to ask for a transfer to Canada. Max agrees and says he can leave tomorrow. Momma breezes in on her Nimbus 2000 (any Potter fans out there?) Rod tries to escape but she stops him, saying she’d like to speak with him in front of his father. Rod gives her The Glare. Rosie tearfully asks for his forgiveness. She realizes that in his eyes, she must be the worst mother (got that right). That he must think she wanted to separate him from Luciana just to make him unhappy. But he must believe her that was not the case. He keeps her at arm’s length and tells her it’s no use discussing it any longer. He and Luciana are separated and will never, ever see each other again. She assures him that one day, when he’s a parent, he’ll realize that parents only want the best for their children. She thinks only of him. Rod shoots back that she only thinks of herself. If she had thought of him, none of this would have happened! Max nods an “atta boy”. Now the drama really gets thick. Rosie says people may accuse her for many things (yup, and there’s a growing list) but they could never misjudge her for the immense love she has for her children. She pleads with him to understand she’s had no peace since their falling out, she’s doing her best to save her family. Max interrupts to tell her he’s sending Rod to Canada. WHAT!?! How can he take her son from her before he’s forgiven her!!!??? Yet more drama -- she turns to Rod sobbing and drops to her knees, begging his forgiveness. Ok, that does it. No self respecting man can see his mother on her knees. He caves. He’s no one to judge her. She’s his mother and he loves her and now he asks her for her forgiveness. She clings to him, a-sobbing and a-crying. Just wait till he figures out what she’s got in store for him at din-din tomorrow. Gala’s office Gala updates her friends on the Gala-Does-Colombia-But-Not-Really-Plan. This is her only chance. She’s leaving everything in Roselena’s hands that Rod will be there at the appointed time. Torreslanda Home Jana is visiting with Connie and tells her about Pato’s tutoring session with Luciana and shares that Rosie of course knows nothing of this. Jana explains, as we see Frigida eavesdropping, that Luciana is outta there as soon as she takes her exam. Boris drops by to get Jana, leaving Connie with Frigida who wants to confirm whether or not Connie is leaving for the weekend, surreptitiously because the curtains need cleaning. Connie says no, she has no plans this weekend. Frigida leaves as Oscar walks in. Quick as a bunny, Frigida calls Julie to tell her the news that Luciana will be gone after her exam. Julie is excited to hear the news (well, I assume she’s happy -- hard to tell with all that botox) Oscar knows something’s up but not sure. Connie tells him she can’t make it this weekend and starts to make up all kinds of excuses. Oscar’s not fooled and asks her for a simple yes or no. Does she, or doesn’t she want to go with him this weekend? If she doesn’t, he’ll understand; but if she does, he guarantees she’ll have a mahvelous time! Ok, she can’t say no to him and agrees. Besitos. Yay, Connie! All us “girls” of a “certain age” applaud you! Meanwhile, Rosie arrives and asks Mattie after her cousin. Mattie explains she’s in the library with Oscar. Rosie just saw him leave. She says Connie is very stubborn and if she doesn’t listen to Rosie, she will regret it. Anyway, she asks Mattie to prepare a huge dinner for her entire family and all of Rod’s friends, including the girlfriends. They’re going to celebrate her reconciliation with her son. Mattie’s overjoyed because Pato’s been so worried about all the squabbles. All that’s over, says Rosie. From here on out, there will only be peace and harmony. Project Taco Luscious Lorenzo gets the bike for his taco business. San Francisco Al Alto (yawn) Procopio and co-worker cheer because they have a customer!! Sacerdote Serafin finally keeled over. They begin to make plans for the funeral and the flowers. The Chismozas show up with donations from around town. Procopino promises everything will be on the up and up. Even Lucha shows up with her donations. Procopio says even Aquiles will have to pony up his share. Judge’s Chambers Hizzoner tells Linares he’s ready to judge on the side of justice. If Linares is innocent, Justice will be on his side. Linares tells him he’s gathered evidence that he was victimized by Maximino Torreslanda. Linares wonders why the judge has agreed to hear his case after all this time. The judge explains he’s done his own investigation and has found Linares to be of impeccable character. Linares proceeds to show him what he’s gathered. Estelita’s Depa Norma calls from Linares’ office to tell them the tickets are ready for their trip back home, by plane. Luciana doesn’t feel that’s necessary – they can go by bus. She asks Paz her opinion, who of course starts wringing her hands and tells Luciana to do what she thinks is best. Luciana accepts the plans as they are. Ariche comes running in just then and is tickled pink to hear they’re traveling by plane. He goes on and on about the flight and how Rod promised to help him become a pilot someday and he also told him he would always take care of Luciana. This saddens her and she puts on her sourpuss face. Aquile’s Shop Aquile is quite put upon by all the racket made by the bells tolling for the defunct Sacerdote and is none too happy to hear he’s expected to make a donation. Procopio’s prepared and has bought a crowd with him who begins’ chanting they want Aquile to give up the cash. Pato’s room Rod and Pato talk about Luciana’s tutoring session. Pato’s confident she’ll pass with flying colors. Rosie pops in and asks Rod to please join them for dinner tomorrow. Rod still seems uncomfortable but agrees. She kisses him goodbye. She tells Pato she’s sooooo happy. At last her life and her family will be back to normal. Violeta’s Depa Vio tells mom how much she’s going to miss her after she’s gone. Magda tells her to call whenever she wants. She gives Vio a blessing before she leaves for work. Magda tells Paz she doesn’t know how she can leave knowing how Vio is working in that place. Now it’s Paz’s turn to do some comforting. She reminds Magda that Vio is a wonderful mushasha. She’s no longer a child and is now responsible for her actions. Magda gets up and serves herself some coffer then points out that Linares will most likely not show up until tomorrow. Paz agrees but wishes she could talk to him and get this over with. Rodrigo and Luciana in bed --- but in different buldings Rodrigo is in bed channel surfing and gives up. He sees the wedding rings on his night stand and has a flashback to when he proposed. Scene dissolves to Luciana’s hand holding her engagement ring as she sleeps.

Gracias, Paquita. Good start and don't worry about the minor characters' names.

Little Cupid was adorable in the plane ride scenes. I hope Luciana and Rod adopt him in the finale (78 episodes later we still haven't seen his parents?).

Celebrating a reconciliation with one's son? What BSCness is this when it would be more logical for Roselena to be that anyone knows of the fight in the first place? I'm surprised Max hasn't had her committed yet.

Thanks, Paquita!!
LOVED 'licenciados, squared',
the Gala-Does-Colombia-But-Not-Really-Plan .. and
All us “girls” of a “certain age” applaud you!
it was funny that Lorenzo and Fabian were arguing as to who would ride the bike and who would walk/run back to the vecindad.
and Max's 'otta boy' face behind Rodrigo when he rejected his mother's invitation to dinner at first, and Pato's face later at night when she said she was 'so glad that her family was going back to 'normal'... was priceless.

Procopio has had a huge turnaround, hasn't he? now that he works for someone else, he finds the backbone to confront Aquiles, especially when he has a whole crowd out the door in case Aquiles refuses to contribute for the padre's funeral. I would call that a victory moment for Procopio.

Fabulous job Frances! You weren't rusty at all and got all the characters down pat, even if you didn't get all the names. Connie is Rosa sis, not cousin, unfortunately for Connie. :)

I actually found the Het Het scenes really funny last night. Copio and Theo jumoing up an down when they heard the Padre had died, then Don A's many terms for the Padre kicking the bucket (hung up his tennis shoes, put on his wooden pajamas, etc.) had me chuckling. And Marta, yes that was a nice little victory for Copio over Don A to use the pressure of the townspeople to make him pay up.

I really enjoyed seeing Luci and Pato hanging out. They get along so easily, and he was looking at her with such love. Too bad she loves the other one.

Rosa was masterful in that appology scene. I think Max was admiring her skills of manipulation in the background, but was pulling for Rod to tell her to go to hell. But like you said, the winning move was when she got on her knees. Rod put up a good fight up till then.

This was wonderful Paquita! Wonderful blend of facts and snark. A stellar first outing.

"Nimbus 2000". Yep, got that reference. What a performance that was. I'm surprised Max didn't start applauding. Somewhat relieved that Dumbass later was still rather aloof with her, but she of course in her LaLaLand doesn't see it. The look on Pato's face when she claimed everything was just fine said it all.

Yeah Connie!!!! Now don't say anything to your stupid sister and just go on the weekend trip.

That lovely little math tutoring scene would almost make one think that the writers were developing something between Luci and Pato. (And that was no basic math he was helping her with, more like Algebra/Algebra II--again, she is one smart cookie and I soooooo want her to pass and then keep going into some endeavor. The comment Pato made about being with Luci---shades of things to come? Heading to the Het Het? Please please please.

Rod, enjoy Canada. Make sure to pack your heay coat. Oh, and take Gala with you. You can show up at the end of this TN. Thank you.

Paquita, congratuations on your stellar Refugio debut. This was so much fun! I thought you captured this in grand style...

"Paz anxiously wrings her hands (as usual" and "od: Nunca? Luciana: Nunca! Ariche: Nunca, sob, sob, sob. Dramatic music ensues as our hunkalicious hero walks away..." were some of the lines that had me smiling away...

Was it just me or was Procopio downright adorable last night? Vivi, I thoroughly enjoyed every scene he was in last night.

Marta, I also caught Pato's expression after Rosa's deluded remarks about a return to normalcy. He looked totally disgusted (as well he should).

daisy, I thought Pato and Luci exuded real chemistry last night - during the tutoring session but first, during the van ride. I have to say that at this point, I would be fully behind their pairing except that Luci really loves Rod (I've ceased to remember why), Luci may be pregnant and lastly, I don't want Pato's heart broken.

Oscar was NOT going to take no for an answer with Connie last night. He wasn't pushy, but persuasive. I hope she goes with him! It's amazing that Rosa can manipulate such a smart woman. Rosa is a master manipulator, playing on Connie's insecurities, and worst of all, the "age" card. Ack.

UA, love Ariche and yes, I hope Luci and Rod adopt him. Err, Pato and Luci? :)

Diana

ITA ladies that Pato and Luci looked simply adorable and almost 'made for each other' except for the issues Daisynjay mentions... love and baby...

Also Oscar was totally adorable in his working Connie into accepting the trip again... i would give anything to be swooned like that by an Oscar...

and yes, Ariche should be adopted by the TL couple in the end... and i would not be unhappy at all if that TL couple ended up being Luci and Pato... am already feeling bad for Pato if he does not meet someone worthy of him by the end. Maybe Claudio's secretary?

I'm with you daisy about pato&luci. I swear these tn writers are a tease, why do they show sweet moments between those two when it makes me root for them more. do they want me to root for them?? but agree with diana, luci (for some reason) loves rod.

I think it's funny that even though rosa worked so hard (& conti. to work hard)to get rod away from luci, she has let the other son stroll away from her controlling grip towards luci. of course don't think her mind games would of worked that great against pato anyways

side note: watching vio with those two little kids, made me think that she would be a good mom.

btw what does BSC mean? I've seen it mentioned around this blog, but have no clue, guessing its not a good thing...

thanks for the fab recap!

jlk

Paquita, just lovely! You covered everything perfectly without going on and on and on. Yes, poor Paz is a pro at worrying, you're right about that.

Pato and Luciana? I vote yes. Let Rodrigo go to the frozen north, never to return.

JLK, BSC is "Bat Shit Crazy". Now you know. BSC saves keystrokes, an important feature since every TN has at least one BSC character.

Speaking' o' which, I can barely watch the Roselena character, but IMO Laura Flores is doing a great job of portraying a descent into madness.

Mike,
totally agree on
Let Rodrigo go to the frozen north, never to return.
even further, ship him to the north pole with Gala and her 30 suticases of fur coats, and leave Luciana and Pato together. I like that pairing so much better at this point in the story. The smiles they exchanged in the ride to and during the tutoring session were priceless. And Pato deserves to be the winner for a change. after all he did recognize Luci's virtues from the get go, even before Rod did.

btw, nice picture with the baby, Mike.

Thanks, Marta! She's a doll and Emilia and I are missing her badly - it's been FIVE days since we've seen her! ;-)

Loved this recap!

Thought it odd that Luci appeared to be pushing Pato's motorized chair.

Don A and Luchia are fun to watch. And, procoppio's comb over is awesome.
Jumping for joy that the had a funeral was funny.

We are back to Luci's head bands and I like it.

And, I could only imagine what Jana had in mind doing with that carrot between her teeth when Gagme tried the wholesome, victim routine.

Wish the writers would give Rod and antidote for that poison pill of stupidity they gave him. Siberia would be more to my liking.

Anon- Yes, Hannah's and Melissa's faces as Gala made her fake announcement about leaving were priceless. They had to surpress their glee. Frigida's shocked face was great too, as her partners in crime have not updated her on the latest "plan." LOL!

Thank you Paquita. My first time reading your recap---good job. Don't worry about all of the names, I have watched this novela from day one and still don't know a couple of the minor characters, their names or their relationships.

HELP!!! JLK--I also didn't know what BSC meant I know ITA and now BSC but little else.

Novela writers---It would be helpful if someone would post a list of abbreviations that are often used. I only know a couple, maybe others could use some help also.
the gringo

Gringo, here are the few I know:
BSC= Bat Shit Crazy
LOL= Laughing out loud
LMAO= Laughing my ass off
ITA= In total agreement
IDK= I don't know
OMG= Oh my God
IMO= In my opinion
IMHO= In my humble opinion

Last night in many ways was all about reacting. i truly expect Max to roll his eyes with that over the top somewhat creepy "reconciliation" scene with Rosa and Dumbass. Who in the name of all that's holy refers to a make up scene with one's child as a reconciliation. Kind of creepy but in a lot of ways Rosa's reactions to Rod are a tad incestuous.

Gagme was a terrible actress with her drop by and tell everyone she is off to Colombia. The only person who bought the announcement was Rosa.

You know you've watched too many bad novelas when a character like Claudio delays going to get the skinny on Luci and your first thought is oops car accident coming. Add to that the call to Luci about the plane tickets and the thought oh please no plane crash. Although a crash with no injuries would force Dumbass to hop on his white horse and ride to the rescue. Thankfully to date this novela has avoided all those obvious plot devises.

Really love Oscar and Conny. She had clearly decided not to go away, she wouldn't let Batwoman take down the dirty curtains in her room but Oscar hardly had to do any begging, lecturing, pleading and she sort of jumped at the chance. Guess domineering woman of morals and rectitude, Rosa nagging didn't find a fertile target.

The day of reckoning is coming closer for all the oh so deserving of it Torreslandas. Too bad the truly innocent Jana and Pato are going to get hit with the fallout.

I've added Marcos and Gabe to my mini S**t list. Reason - they think it is time Rod got over this love thing and returns to normal. Considering that both these guys are saddled with a pair of twits like Fernanda and Val who can blame them them for not getting it. And up till now I had assigned them to team Luci.

Loved that little scene with Vi and the kids and Marcial looking on. She is such a contrast to that shrew of a wife of his.

STTE = something to that effect
WYSIWYG = what you see is what you get
WWJS = what would Jesus (or anyone substituted in here) say/do

Decie, totally agree that it is unfortunate that Jana and Pato will get some of the fallout when Rosa's house of lies/cards falls down. their image of their mother will suffer greatly... but knowing them they will eventually be able to understand it was not anything they had control over and a lesson learned to be able to recognize their mother's antics in the future.

and of course like the 'dicho' says:
al que no quiere caldo le dan 3 tazas (he who does not like the soup gets three bowls).
when Jana recognizes and exposes her feelings for Lorenzo things will get mighty more interesting.

A BIG THANK YOU Vivi and Martaivett ---the gringo

Martaivett

It isn't only Rosa's deeds that are going to hurt Jana and Pato but also Max's. They adore their father and to find out that he is a crook will be shattering to them.They are the only two in the house who don't deserve what is coming, everyone else is an active participant or an enabler.

I think both Rosa and Gagme are overestimating Gala's charms. I',m pretty sure that his head is wrapped up in Luci's statement that they will never return to the DF and that in all likelihood he will never see the OYL of his life again. Gagme can pull all her seductive tricks out and we all hope it will result in at least a verbal slap down which she has coming.

I do have to say that it amuses me to watch how Jealous Rod gets when he sees Luci and Pato together. I don't think that he really knows how much his brother loves the girl but he sure resents their closeness. I also found it hilarious that after Luci walked off with Pato we later see the scene in Pato's room where Rod is practically cross examining him about what went down. Of course Rosa flew in on her broom and that conversation ceased.

As someone pointed out Rosa has been so focused on breaking up Rod and Luci she has virtually ignored Pato's attraction to the girl. I'm sure she has no idea of his depth of feeling for Luci and she has no idea about Jana and Lorenzo (not that there is much going on other then a mild flirtation). Her daughter with a high school drop out, jail bird with few job possibilities I see a case of the vapors coming on. LOL

Decie Girl- I was also very amused by Rod's jealous reaction when he discovered Pato coming to Luci's place and they then walked off together. He's had that WTF (Gringo, that's what the f**ck?) look on his face a few times now when it's been obvious what Pato feels for Luci. I bet if Pato were mobile and well, he would have caught on much more quickly that Pato is his competition, not Claudio.

Of course I meant what the frack, because that other 'f' word isn't in my vocab, and I'm a BSG (Battlestar Galactica) fan. :) Everytime they talk about hydraulic fracking on NPR I giggle.

Paquita excellent first attempt. Your recappers lingo is spot on. Great job!!!
Paz has every right to worry.She loves Luci and the thought of her baby ever rejecting her must be killing her. The contrast between the coven ladies (Julie,Gala and Rosa)and the three mothers is so glaring. With the coven ladies,lying is a way of life. whereas the mothers advice truth telling and letting the chips fall where they may. Rod now has all my sympathy.With a mom like that who needs enemies.I was sick watching her lie to her first born son like that.These writers better give her fitting end.

Oh Paquita...this was so much fun to read. Loved your "(if only)" concerning Gala's fake plans to leave the country, as well as Paz' endless worry list extending to global warming and the price of wheat. Our noble pueblo mama annoys the heck out of me sometimes.

Favorite nickname. Maximeanie!!! Indeed.

Enjoyed the recap especially because I had meetings last night and none of the telenovelas recorded in my absence. I am in WITHDRAWAL, but your smooth, witty re-telling was just what I needed. Many thanks.

Excellent, Paquita. Are you sure you haven't been doing this for years? What a smooth enjoyable read.

My contribution for the abbreviations, although I haven't seen it before: HWGA - Here We Go Again. Pretty much fits any telenovela IMHO!

@Emilia...Paquita has recapped at other times. And is fabulous and funny. She's just been taking a break lately. I love her style, don't you?

Paquita,

Loved your recap with the comments. Thanks.

Rosemary Primera

Definitely fabulous and funny. I look forward to reading more of your recaps, Paquita.

Daisynjay,
forgot to comment that i too noticed that the math that Luci was studying was indeed at least Algebra or Algebra II. Not exactly simple for a pueblerina girl. But that will help her be independent and well rounded. And once her origin is revealed, she will really have nothing to envy Gala or anyone else.
