Amorcito Corazón Discussion #104-108 Sept. 10-14

Oh I wish I had time to do this episode justice. Thank heaven for the witty discussion!

The Flintstone Plotline

  • The gals show up at Zoe's. While there, Sabrina slimes on FFFFF and Isa sees it. Later, Ssssabrina slimes on Fer and Zoe sees.
  • The next day the three Caballeros Tarados fret over the Hobag Conundrum. Every once and a while Fer talks some sense: "better to tell the truth ourselves than to let Sabrina talk." That idea gets shot down every time. They think a payoff will work. Dumba$$es.
  • Manny asks Fer if she can fire Ssssabrina. He gives the go ahead. Sssabrina gets pithed and tells him he has until tomorrow to decide to give her her job back or she's blabbing.
  • Isa confronts FFFFF while Zoe confronts Fer.
  • Everyone leaves work early. Susy wonders if anyone around the constructora works.
  • Isa confronts Ssssabrina. Ssssanbrina admits to sleeping with FFFFF (it was just a simple "acostón; un chiste rapitín" she argues.) Isa swears on her mother that if Sssabrina keeps it up she will pay and  cry lágrimas de sangre.
  • Zoe confronts Ssssabrina. See above. Zoe doesn't go the tears of blood route. She goes the Slap the Ho route.
Horny, Willy, Lucia
  • Horny offers to pay reIcky dos mil pesos to rough up Lucia.
  • Lucia tells Reina and the other girl not to say a word to Willy, but she's heading off to Canada. The promise not to tell Willy. Luckily they tell Jazmín who promptly tells Willy.
  • Willy, Moncho, Juancho, Nacho and Chicho devise Operación Tananana.
Beba and Jorrible
  • Beba fusses at Jorrible for fighting with Fernando.
There was tons of vocab I didn't get to write down. I hope that I can do that tonight.

Comments:
I think they really got their comedic rhythm back today -- I didn't FF through a single minute. What a gas!

And thank you, Amorcito, for bringing back fond memories of my Spanish youth with that wonderful phrase "meter mano" (to get fresh, to feel someone up.) Hadn't thought of it in DECADES.

While it was comedic, it was also frustrating putting up with Sabrina. I'm glad that her friends are on to her. And I'm concerned about what Horny & rIcky will do to Lucia.

The mirrored plotline with Isa and Zoe, Fernie and FFFFF was funny, especially when Zoe slapped Sabrina and Sssssssabrina said, "at least that was a different ending!"

I think my very favorite part was Chicho patting Nacho's head after Willy jumped on him. (Also, I finally know who is Chicho and who is Nacho!)

Manny is really going all out with the cavewoman couture. I find it hysterical that they keep making caveman references and Manuela and Sabrina keep showing up in fur and leopard print.

Our dimwitted caballeros are not getting any brighter. They think they can buy off Sabrina of the Meaningless Quickies? How did they get to be so old without ever learning that paying blackmail doesn't work? You have to just tell the secret yourself, otherwise you will have it hanging over you forever...or until the blackmailer spills it in spite of the payoff. Doy.

Ha ha, Julia, they even had Isa in a Flintstones print last night!

My favorite part was the "tananana" theme of the supposed Mission Impossible plot to kidnap Lucia. I assume they'll get to her before ReIcky and his nefarious disfigurement plot. Horty has really gone too far this time.

I also liked Beba dressing down Jorge for acting like a goon. And Susi saying, "Doesn't anybody WORK around here?"

Recap is up.

Thanks for the recap Sara! You did the episode plenty of justice.

It's sad that the bosy are that stupid to think they can "get away" with sleeping w/a vindictive ho-bag. Even if they pay her off, she'll tell.

Yes BL, Horny has gone too far. I hate when TN characters pull this type of crap b/c its not like that will make Willy love Horny. It's just mean & evil as Horny and her daughter are.

Thanks for starting us off Sara. Yes, the guys are being incredibly stupid deciding to pay Sabrina off instead of just telling the truth. She will just continue to torture them, AND she'll get money for doing it.

Horny is now as nutty as her daughter. Disfigure Lucia! Yikes!

I hope Operación Tananana works and Lucia escapes disfigurement at ReIcky's hand...even if Operación Tananana does seem to involve climbing over the wall and throwing a bag over Lucia's head. Somehow I suspect we're in for some wacky hijinx with this gang going on a stealth adventure. I hope Moncho doesn't hurt himself.

Manuela may be an inept employee, but she's got the brisk firing routine down pat. Although, can you imagine the legal uproar if you fired someone and gave "for being a slut" as the reason?!

Speaking of which, has anyone else noticed that when the characters call each other "zorra" or "perra", the captions say "gata"?

Sara, thank you for the recap. Like you I very much enjoyed this episode and didn't FF through any of it. I know Sabrina is terrible but I am really enjoying Carmen Becerra's acting and comedic timing. The plot with both Isa and Zoe catching Sabrina is hilarious. Of course the writers will probably drag it out wayyyy too long and I'll eat my words. But I am really enjoying it right now.

The poor stoopid boyz, if only they would try to understand why Sabrina is jumping them all then they would know that money is pointless.

Yikes, Horty hit a new low yesterday. The way that Ricky leered when she gave him his orders was super creepy.

Blue, Beba scolding Jorrible was one of my favorite scenes. She really called bull***t on him.

Yes, I noticed the way foxes (and dogs, apparently) magically turn into cats in the captions! :D

Ditto. I get cats too :)

Funny! The way censorship is applied in these shows always cracks me up.

I heard a phrase used yesterday and I couldn't find a translation for it. It was the scene in Zoe's apartment, Isa, Fer, Felipe and Zoe left so Isa could take Fer home, and Cecilio was getting on Sabrina's case for being a rotten friend to Isa and Zoe. She snips that she has no "amigas" and never has had. Then she tells him she thought he was smarter and "mientras te empeñes en ser la piel mama de tus amigos, nunca vas a dejar de ser un insípido aburrido." I was looking for a translation of the part that is in bold but I couldn't find it anywhere. So what would be the equivalent of "to be the breast skin of your friends"? Something like a bleeding heart?

How about "Agony Aunt"?

I don't know, really.

Agony Aunt makes sense too.

I wrote that one down, too, but couldn't find anything specifically discussing its use that way. It does sound like Agony Aunt; or like he babies his friends and is self-sacrificing, is a doormat...I can't think of a better way to say it in English.

Er... What's an agony aunt? I've never heard it.

The person who is always sympathizing with everyone else's problems, whose role in life seems to be to play second fiddle and be supportive more than to have a life of their own.

Agony Aunt is also what they call the Dear Abby type columnists because they are known as the "agony columns".

By jove, I think I've got it. Sabrina didn't say piel mama, she said pilmama, which means nanny. So, similar meaning to what we were discussing, but it's an actual word.

Hooray! The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain...

Nice sleuthing there amiga!

Yay! You rock, Julia!

On another note: Obviously I still haven't gotten to today's episode. I'm wading around in ungraded papers. I'll get up early tomorrow and watch. Again, I offer my weekly apology.

Has any noticed that Horny is starting to look old! Lots of wrinkles. She is so hateful to Luci she deserves a lot more than wrinkles.

What was with that vest Manny was wearing? That was terrible and a whole lot worse than most of her outfits.

Willy and company were so funny planning their kidnapping of Luci. I hope she appreciates how much every cares about her except Sor Biddy. What is her hurry in getting Luci into the convent and to take her final vows when she knows there are doubts?

Maybe Ricky will fall off the balcony and break his neck and put us all out of the misery he is causing.

I do believe Beba has Jorrible's number.

Rosemary Primera

Yikes! Interesting turn of events today. Like mother like daughter (Horty and Manuela).

Oh my! Tuesday *was* a humdinger of an episode.

--All three of the Cabablleros Tarados went to see Sssabrina. Threats were made, full names were shouted and the maid heard it all.

--Someone beat the stew out of Sssabrina, being careful to destroy her face. The eavesdropping maid reported the events of earlier and now Fer, FFFFF and Cecilio are all being arrested for the attempted homicide of Sssabrina.

--Horny and EWM reconciled.

--Horny checked up on reIcky's progress in the disfigurement of Lucia.

--EWM made a mysterious call (so we all know who *really* ordered the beating of Ssssabrina.)

--Jorrible tried to make nice with Isa by leaving a message with her mother.

--I FF>> through Operación Tananana. It looked funny.

Avances: I don't think they got the right monja.

PS: they screwed up pilmama again. My CC's said pilmana. Don't these people know we are trying to learn Spanish?

I like that word. I'm translating it in my head as "wet nurse."

Yesterday's new phrase: Isa told Fer that everyone knows Felipe is an "ojo alegre." I get the gist but don't know how it would be translated, exactly. A free spirit? A flirt?

My favorite moment from the last epi was when Fer and Felipe got the tandem phone calls in the bar and both turned to Cecilio and said, "YOU BEAT HER UP???" That was priceless.

New t-shirt nomination: ¡¡NOS EQUIVOCAMOS DE MONJA!!

(How did they manage that, anyway???)

Blue Lass, I looked up ojo alegre last night and it was translated as "wandering eye" and "flirt".

Thanks Sara!

Thanks, Sylvia!

I have GOT to get a new dictionary.

Thanks, Sara.

I think the Dimwitted Caballeros are lucky that the poli detective on the case knows them. I'm sure he'll question them all thoroughly but I doubt they'll have serious problems. All three of them were at their usual bar, where the waiter probably knows them, at the time of the attack. Isa and Zoe know when the attack happened and heard Sabrina say "who are you?" Plus that manager or whoever in the lobby of Sabrina's building seemed to be paying a lot of attention to the comings and goings; maybe he'll mention the thug who wanted to look at an apartment. At any rate, I hope the secrets will be exposed.

The old nuns seem to have swapped personalities. The crabby one has turned nicer, and the nice one is now in a hurry to push Lucia into taking her vows. I wonder if Sor E's change of mood is because before, she felt responsible for getting Lucia to conform to convent life, and now that Sor P has given permission for Lucia to do as she likes, Sor E can relax because it isn't her fault if Lucia screws up. I think maybe also she's accepted that nun life isn't really for Lucia, so she's maybe hoping Lucia will be lured away by the outside world/Willy and she won't be stuck with a nun in her convent who is really unsure about being there.

Why *does* that old nun want to hurry Lucía along so much? Does she have a quota or something?

I'm having a hard time because she looks just like my dear Slovenian grandma, so I can't dislike her no matter how hard I try...

Lo del miércoles

--The Three Dimwits are still being questioned and they all have the same alibi: "I was in my car; in traffic." Eventually SSSaabrina regains consciousness and tells Idrogo it wasn't them. They are freed and go to the hospital to thank her. Still full of venom, she tells them she only got them out of jail so she could savor the look on Isa and Zoe's faces when she tells them she slept with their fellas.

--Doris tries to make a sale of flooring. I forgot to mention: at some point this week Jaibo and Mayela called and demanded more money. Doris is out of money, so she's trying to get some.

--Willy returned the monja to the convent. Hijinks. Funny in it's own right. I don't think the corny sound effects were necessary. Anyhoo. He returns the nun and decides to try to convince Lucia to come back to him. Right before he opens her door, his phone rings. Detaining him just long enough to get caught by three nuns. He runs. Luckily, reIcky is also on the grounds so HE is the one to get attacked by the angry mob of nuns. Willy safely escapes.

--Lala was not pleased with Operacion Tananana. She tells Willy to forget about Lucia.

--When Isa and Zoe go to get a change of clothes for Sssabrina, the maid tells them all about her testimony. She saw all three of the Dimwits at Sssabrina's apartment right before she got beat up.

Ha. I loved it when the doc said, "We will need to bring in a plastic surgeon" -- I shouted "AGAIN!"

Thanks, Sara.

What a hoot. I didn't think the stupid sound effects were needed, either. Those guys are hilarious on their own. I loved the nightgowned nun mob but was disappointed they didn't land more hard blows on ReIcky's nasty hide.

Will los tres eejits finally just tell Isa and Zoe what they did? It couldn't be any more clear that all Sssabrina wants is to enjoy inflicting pain on her former friends, so they should at least deny her the pleasure of seeing them shocked.

I was impressed with Carmen Becerra's acting. Even with her face in gore makeup and bandages, we could still see her thought process as Idrogo asked her to identify her attacker, and her twisted emotions when she was talking to the guys after they were released.

I loved when Susy asked the jailed gents, "If you're innocent, why do you all look so guilty?"

I'll try to get caught up tonight. Sorry.

A few bullets for breakfast:

- Turns out Lucia is only going to be in Canada for a month or so. Padre Tio told Willy to let her go; she needs the time to think.

- Monja Vieja thought-bubbled about how she was gonna keep Lucia on a very short leash once she got her out of there. She doesn't remind me so much of my granny anymore.

- Manny visited Sssabrina in the hospital and told her she was behind the beating. Then she forced her to write a good-bye e-mail to everyone and packed her off to the airport with a one-way ticket and that wicked weird bubble-butted hit man. Will she make it...?

- I FF'd through all of Isabel crying, which made for a very short episode.

New vocab for me:

"la vuelta en u" = u-turn (love it!)

"otra cosa, mariposa" = sounds like "Bob's your uncle" or "that's all she wrote" or something like that...?

Avances: Looks like the Keystone Kockatoos are going to put on masks and "kidnap" both Willy AND Lucía. It's hard to imagine her finding that charming...

I used to think Sor Pilar was nice! Now she's seeming abusive, the way she was friendly to Lucia to get her on her side and now she's all, "I'll get you, my pretty, bwahaha!" Maybe this is to strengthen the case that Lucia really does need to get away from that convent.

So, other plot point is that Zoe packed her suitcase yet again and left FFFFF, and FFFFF called around looking for her, and Cecilio was afraid she'd gone back to the bridge where they met and he went there and there is a suitcase sitting there...but where is Zoe?

The barrio boys' plans get worse all the time.

I want Cecilio to grab Zoe off the bridge again -- and keep her!

Blue Lass, thanks for the bullet points.

Is Sabrina in any condition to travel? Manny needs to be in a manicomio after this stunt. What makes her think Sabrina will not recover and then come gunning for her?

So Zoe is going to do a rerun, how could she contemplate such a thing.
But if it brings she and true love together, so be it.

Willy and company should be fun today, it sure beats all of the crying. I am going to start calling Isa La Llorona if she doesn't dry up soon.

Rosemary Primera

I don't tell y'all enough how much I appreciate y'all keeping things going when I fall behind :)

I'm watching Thursday right now. I love that Lucia has Mannys number and knows that Manny acts concerned about the girls just to get to Fernando.

Lo del viernes
My apologies again for falling behind this week.

--Cecilio lobbies for FFFFF, but Zoe isn't falling for it.

--FFFFF gets really drunk and goes to Isa's begging Zoe for forgiveness, but Zoe isn't falling for it.

--Jorrible takes Isa out to eat. He plays the gallant sympathizer. He makes me want to toss my cookies.

--Horny convinces Marisol to have an 18th birthday party.

--EWM buys a bunch of clothes. She's planning to make herself over as the spitting image of Sofia...all the way down to her perfume.

--Doris and Poncho pawn Poncho's watch. They hand the money over to Mayela and Jaibo. Jaibo tells them the money is for medicines since Mayela has been spotting. Mayela is starting to feel a little bad about the extortion.

--Willy and Lucia get "kidnapped" by Moncho, Juancho, Nacho(?) and Chicho. Willy thinks he can convince Lucia to reconsider. THe plan sort of works since she missed her flight to Canada, but things go awry when Lucia manages to untie herself, konk Chicho over the head and remove his mask. I don't think Lucia is going to like this.

--Lala and Padre Benito discuss "Willy's" escapade in the convent. Both comment on Willy's lack of bruising because of the beating the nuns gave him. Will reIcky show his face before his bruises heal?

Thanks, Sara! I actually had a pencil last night, so here are some vocabz:

abogar por alguién = to lobby, to advocate for someone

darle manga ancha a alguién = to give someone a lot of freedom/latitude

sinsabores = disappointments, bummers, bad experiences

...and one of my favorites:

no tener vela en este entierro = to not have a dog in this fight, i.e., not be involved in this asunto

Blue Lass and Sara - thanks for your recaps. Sara, no worries on getting behind I still have to watch Th and Fri too.

EWM's latest stunts are quite un-nerving but her horrible mother still wins w/her disfigurement ploy.

"I want Cecilio to grab Zoe off the bridge again -- and keep her!" yes, Blue this is very necessary at this point b/c otherwise Zoe will be beyond the reach of reason.

Julia - I've been suspicious of Sor Pilar from the start. Her ulterior motives have been lurking b/c she conveniently ignores Lucia's obvious attraction/love for Willy to push the Casa Hogar project. And we all know Lucia could do that w/out being a nun.

I had always been willing to give Sor Pilar the benefit of the doubt until Thrusday. She really turned dark and ugly and there is no mistaking that she has Lucia's best interest at heart.

Thanks Sara and Blue Lass for this week's recaps and vocab. I don't understand why Sor Pilar is suddenly so hell-bent on controlling Lucia.

For me the funniest scene was when Willy and Lucia were tied up on the bed and she very methodically managed to get herself free while he (of course) did nothing. If he really thought she would just lie there and await her fate he still does not know her very well. Made for a cute scene though.

The looks on Willy's face during the kidnapping were hilarious as well!

Lots of hilarious moments during the kidnapping. The can voice disguisers were great.

But seriously...did Willy G really think Lucia would be in a favorable mood after being terrified and left blindfolded with her hands tied behind her back all night? Can he even grasp that she would just end up freaked out/thirsty/hungry/in need of the loo/in great pain and discomfort? He needs to watch more telenovelas and learn the DOs and DON'Ts of Love Shacking.

Amen, Julia! Honestly, I don't know how Lucia can forgive him for this one. I'm sure she will, but it may not be until the very end of this TN.

I guess we are at the halfway mark if there are 206 episodes.

I meant to ask earlier: Do you all think EWM is going to try and look like Sofia in front of the girls, or just when she is alone with Fernando? Her level of evil is just sick.

Sara, so true about EWM. I didn't care for Sabrina at all but EWM's treatment of her was really horrendous and frightening. EWM seems to have no sympathy, empathy or love (or like for that matter) for anyone. Her feelings for Fernando are obsession, and as for the rest of the family, it's all about how she can use them or manipulate them to serve her own needs. Has she ever done anything FOR someone without it somehow somehow benefiting her own bad self? I'm not sure but I don't think so.

As for looking like Sofia, I'm not sure about the answer to your question. I wouldn't put it past her to try to lure the girls into thinking she is like mom too. If so it will be interesting to see which girls fall for her charade and which do not. Or maybe she will just do it for Fernando and he will think he's losing it or something.

Well, it's easy to see why Horny wanted her to stay in Italy...

Blue Lass, your avatar! Bwahahahaha!!!

Jijí. Thanks, Sylvia. I was hoping it would be a little easier to read.

ITA that Willy has a lot to learn with regard to romance. And though Lucia will have good reason to stop speaking to him for a while, I think he may save or rescue her in some way b/c Horny won't be content until she messes with Lucia.

I think we know why EWM has not sympathy or feeling for others. Look at her mother! It will be interesting to see how those two go down. I hope they turn on one another.

Blue Lass - you need to post that on the greeting card thread!

Karen, I'll see if I can insert it at the top of the original post...

Success!

Oh Karen! Your comment gave me a horrible thought: what if reIcky gets ahold of Lucia and she thinks it's Willy?

Oh wait. That could be very Ransom of Red Chief. I like the comic possibilities of that.

Congrats Blue Lass! It's so perfect there.

Sara, the only consolation in case of kidnapping I'd have it that Lucia would know that Willy would never harm (or even worse deform) her and rIcky is so stupid he will speak to her if he snatches her and she'll know then.

I would love to see Lucía use her sartenazo skills on ReIcky.
