El Mundo de Telemundo - week of September 24 - Discuss among yourselves
Labels: pablo, secretario, telemundo, valiente
Miggy asks Fabiola what it will take to get her away from the base; he can’t live without her. She gives in and leaves with him. Hmmm. Isn’t she AWOL? Nine weeks is the new military requirement for the US?
In Colombia the Reptile and D8D are with Verdugo. She says she wants to see his face; she got a scar off hers and can show it freely. D8D tells her it’s no good to pressure this guy.
Miggy and FF are on their way from the base. He brings her up to date on what happened. She says she feared he was angry. He says he was furious, but loves her more than ever.
We are seeing a bit of the new-shared custody arrangement. Ángela chews JM out for giving Juan Cruz so many sweets he got a tummy ache. Laura is there draped all over JM. Ángela and JM bicker a bit. Gus brings JC’s little bag in, mentioning there’s a book inside he was reading to the boy. JM rather nastily reminds him that HE is JC’s father.
Willy teases Sammy about eating for twins when she’s not expecting them. Nico wants to know if the baby is a boy or a girl, and so does Willy. But Sam doesn’t want to know.
Clara brings Jess to Sam and Willy’s. It appears there’s no longer any hostility there. Sam is very friendly and asks how Clara’s doing, touching her belly. Clara sort of collapses, saying it’s low blood pressure. She tells them D8D is traveling. Then Willy touches Clara’s belly saying it’s his little sister in there. Clara looks guilty, knowing the baby is NOT D8D’s.
The Reptile and D8D are in Verdugo’s house in Colombia, and he’s showing off some fancy guns. He’s got on that leather mask.
Gus has figured things out. He wants Ángela armed at all times. He’s sure that the Reptile is alive.
Fabiola has arrived to stay at Casa Arroyo. She and Miggy are kissing passionately when Génesis knocks on the door. She rushes in, so happy to see her tía de la selva.
JM gives a PSA to Laura about JC always being in a car seat. Laura reminds him that she knows the statistics, being a cop. She tells him she’s going to try very hard to be a good stepmother to his children.
Nico is going through boxes of his father’s [Esteban] stuff. He’s very sad. Sam starts to help him, and they find an empty file folder with “Clara Salvatierra” on the label.
Clara goes into labor at the hospital. Except it’s the wrong hospital, the one where her father is. [Whoa! So her father has been in the hospital since before she was showing her pregnancy? D8D would need lots of drug deals to pay this bill!] Camilo happens to be there, and Clara overhears someone calling him Camilo instead of Luis. He wiggles out of it saying people think Camilo is alive, but it’s really Luis.
Fabiola wants to meet the guy who saved Miggy (Falcón). Miggy tells her that Falcón also wants to meet her and wants the map. Miggy tells her that Falcón wants Miggy to give the map to the Colombian authorities. She asks if he trusts this guy. Miggy says that he saved his life. FF: “My father always said, don’t trust anyone.”
So, is the Reptile supposed to have a wig on or is she supposed to have bleached her hair? I guess we thought it was a disguise to shoot at JM, but she’s blonde in Colombia. Verdugo doesn’t mess around. He takes her right into his bedroom and starts undressing her. She convinces him to unmask. Big surprise, NOT. It’s Javier Falcón. I recognized Pernia’s voice as soon as he spoke earlier in the episode.
Sam and Willy speculate about why El Jefe would have had a now-empty file folder with Clara’s name on it. Sam wants to know why he would have been interested in Clara.
Clara goes into labor. She overcomes her dislike for Camilo and asks him to take her to the clinic where her doctor is.
JM comes home and is overjoyed to see Fabiola there. Laura has a sour expression. What’s that about? When FF asks about Emma, JM tells her that Pablo found work in Barcelona. They’ll be saying there for a while. Fabiola asks if Laura is still JM’s bodyguard. Laura says she’s his girlfriend now. Fabiola pipes up: “But I thought you were in love with Ángela?” Whoops.
Sammy asks Jessica about Clara and hears that she’s kind and definitely makes it bearable staying there with D8D.
El Verdugo and the Reptile appear to have enjoyed having sex. When she comments about how many women he must have had, he tells her he seduced fewer than he killed! She seems to be very smitten with him, saying he’s just like her. He says he has to go to LA. She asks him rather sharply if it’s to see a woman. He says that it is.
Ángela asks Nora if she agrees with Gus that Fernanda del Castillo is alive. Nora says that she suspects she may be because of the exploded morgue van. Nora then asks Ángela if there is any love left for JM. She looks doubtful and doesn’t answer.
Sam has remembered a place El Jefe kept things and has arrived at his old office. Sam is trying to open his safe.
Sadly, Ringo is not dead. El Verdugo gives him instructions to take good care of the Reptile while he’s gone. Give her whatever she wants. Alex appears and asks to go to LA with him. The miserable creep Ringo says that she wants to see her amorcito. Verdugo says she can come. He also says she doesn’t interest him at all. But if she betrays him, she’ll suffer and then die.
Miggy had asked JM to construct a Panic Room inside the Arroyo house for Fabiola. He explains all its features to her. She says it won’t be necessary because she’s going back to the Army. He says he’ll try to convince her to stay. They get busy.
While Sammy is trying to open the safe, Nuñez arrives. Rats! He asks what they’re doing there. Sam, of course, has no idea what a greedy jerk he is and tells him they’re looking for the contents of Clara Salvatierra’s file. When they ask him about it, he plays dumb.
We are seeing some similarities in the two relationships. Laura asks JM if he hasn’t repented of asking her to live with him. When he says she’s made him want to live again, she says maybe someday he’ll learn to love again. Then Gus is planning a special dinner. He tells Ángela how much he loves her. She tells him he’s so good and embraces him. Gus says he'll be the happiest man in the world when she says she loves him. So neither JM nor Ángela are really in love with the ones they’re living with.
In the Panic Room Fabiola tells Miggy that the map won’t do them any good. It’s incomplete. Later Miggy gives her the map he had while she was at the Army base. She says she doesn’t know where the rest of it is. He calls her on a lie, and she doesn’t disagree. He tells her he doesn’t blame her for keeping quiet.
Sam manages to get the safe open and takes out the contents. Nuñez sticks around. They root through the stuff, and then Sammy has some kind of pain, so the search of the safe contents is abandoned.
Meanwhile Nico is still going through his adoptive father’s stuff. Nora comes in, and we see that she’s placed a tray of sandwiches on top of what looks like the Clara Salvatierra file everyone is looking for.
We get double scenes of the “others” setting up seductions of JM and Ángela. JM and Laura fall onto the bed together, but Génesis knocks saying that JC is burning up with fever. Laura makes a prune face behind his back as JM rushes off to his son.
Willy takes Sammy to the hospital. He gives it the old college try for a sonogram, hoping to find out the sex, but Sam refuses. It seems that little pain was a plot device to get Sammy to the hospital the same time as Clara.
Camilo tells Sam and Willy that Clara is in labor. Clara says it’s not time. She sure looked huge to me; what does she mean it’s early? She says she doesn't know why, but she trusts Sam. She then asks Sammy not to leave her alone and to go into the delivery room with her. Willy doesn’t want her to do it, but Sam tells him she can’t explain why; but she needs to be there for that baby’s birth.
JM says he’s planning to sleep with his son. The little guy is crying – something he’s never done before. [Did they stick him with a pin for this scene?] Laura again looks sour, but tries to be a good sport. Just then Ángela shows up and observes Laura bursting out of her sexy bra. So I guess the news of the fever traveled fast, and Ángela left her little love scene as well.
El Verdugo aka Javier Falcón has shown up at Casa Arroyo. He greets Miggy with a big smile. He asks if Fabiola has returned. Just then she comes in wearing shorts with her hair wet. Verdugo looks her up and down. And she looks fixedly at him.
Mini-Sammy is born. Out in the waiting room, D8D has arrived. Willy asks him why he’s always late. And he tells his father that, anyway, Clara is not alone. HIS Sammy is with her.
We see Sammy holding her child. Clara has fainted and the doctors fuss over her.
In Picota prison (where Pedro Montoa is), a news report comes through the radio that the conservative candidate for Mayor of Medellin escaped an attempted kidnapping, because of his bodyguards. One of the assailants was injured, and has been tied to Pablo Escobar.
We see Pablo and crew discussing strategy. Peluche is told to write to the government to make sure they know that kidnapping attempt WAS done by the “Extraditables”. Miguel Moreno (the new guy, who leads a group of paramilitary guys from Cordoba), is asked for his opinion. He says this killing is just making things more complicated. And Miguel also doesn't like aligning with the leftist guerillas. Pablo says he supports democracy, and leftist ideals (hates the conservative right wing). Well, says Miguel, I'm not too fond of leftists. They kidnapped my father, and even after we paid two ransoms, it wasn't enough, and they killed him. Yes, if I see a leftist, I'll kill him like a rat.
The Justice Minister is discussing the extradition problem with another high ranking official named Bedoya. The minster says there's a new problem. Pedro Montoa has been charged with drug trafficking in Colombia. And if someone is charged for the same crime in the US and Colombia (which he now is), the law prohibits extradition.
The Montoa brothers tell Pablo they are getting Pedro charged with cattle importing, which is minor, but would also keep him in Colombia. Pablo says you can't trust the government. Especially Bedoya, the real power behind the President, pipes up Santorini, that political operative from long ago, who just happens to be present at this meeting (which seems to be at a public art auction). Pedro introduces him to Julio and German Montoa. Santorini wants to know how he can help. Miguel calls Pablo over, says if you go with MY proposal, I'll give you 10% of my men to personally guard your hacienda.
So what is Miguel's proposal? I don't know, but the next scene has Pablo's killers enter a building in Medellin which has communist posters on the wall, and yell for everybody to get down. The newspaper then talks of the “massacre” in Medellin, and we later hear Chili say they killed five people. The government knows the cartel did this. We then cut to a hospital bed, and Pavon is lying there, injured (maybe he was the assailant who got injured in the kidnap attempt on the conservative candidate). The press doesn't understand what's going on, as Pedro has now attacked a right winger, then left wingers. All they know is that he doesn't want Montoa to be extradited. The boys around Pavon then joke with Marino about his Yesenia problem, he should have known better than to eat off the boss's plate. He stalks out, and Pavon remarks that with all their joking, if Marino doesn't do what he's supposed to, they might have to kill him.
At Miguel's jungle camp, his No. 2 Lucio is saying they're shorthanded, having sent so many of the guys to guard Escobar. And Lucio doesn't trust Escobar, you know how many people he's killed? Yeah, says Miguel, but the last five helped OUR cause. What's the matter, you scared? Course not, but how can our “Self Defense Forces” be openly aligned with a guy who's declared himself friendly to left wing causes? Learn a lesson, says Miguel. Don't be so romantic about ideals. The real thing we need is POWER, and we'll align with whomever we need to, to get that.
At the Cali cartel warehouse, Gerardo is happy about his “bomb-car” which he's going to use to kill Pablo Escobar. But the other brothers think he's nuts. Gerardo says Escobar tried to kill me, I'm going to kill him. Gildardo says look at all the guys Escobar has killed recently. He's capable of anything. And all for stopping Pedro Montoa from being extradited. The least thing we need now is more attention on us. We should stay cool for a while, let events in Medellin play out. Gerardo remains obstinate.
Bedoya is ranting at the Justice Minister, how many more killings? We need to get Montoa extradited, now! And if Montoa is to be extradited for drug trafficking, why not Escobar as well? The Minister responds that Pedro's own lawyers started his drug case in Columbia (which is keeping him from being extradited due to the rule I mentioned above). So now the robbers tell the cops how to run the law?, Dr. Bedoya answers. They'll killing civilians. This has gone over the line. You'd better do something soon. The Minister keeps saying he'd like to, but has to follow the law.
Marino meets with Pablo. Pablo asks how come Yesenia isn't dead? Marino says he just can't do it. Pablo says look, I gave you a choice. You die, or you kill her. You made an agreement. I'm sorry, but you have to do it. We then see a montage of Marino and Yesenia, all sorts of love scenes, kisses. Marino calls Yesenia, and tells her we have to leave. Sunday at 5:00 at Bolivar Park. He actually says he did not tell Pablo, but don't question him, if they want to be together, they have to leave Medellin. Just tell your brother you're going on a little trip. Yesenia is surprised, she has her house, her brother, her job. But she senses the urgency, and loves him, so she agrees, she'll go with him. I love you, he says. I love you more, she says gleefully.
He hangs up, walks over to Chili, Topo, Kiko and Cain, who were watching the whole thing. You heard it, guys, he sputters. He gets in the jeep, eyes cast down, face ashen like death.
Whoa!
Thanks for the great recap!!!
No surprise that Javier is Verdugo, but he must have either been a child prodigy or has been taking some good drugs to keep him from aging. (The latter is more likely, but I like the idea of a child as a drug lord. It wouldn’t even be the most ridiculous thing in this novela)
So Clara already gave birth. The time doesn’t really add up.
It's nice that Clara is on good terms with Sam and Willy, but it’s interesting that she still doesn’t question Bernie when everyone seems to hate him, including the nice people who, unlike D8D, don’t constantly have suspicious and evil people barging into their house.
JM&Laura and Angie&Gus would be great if we didn’t have to buy that only Angie&JM is meant to be. GAH. I feel sorry for the other two, who deserve so much better.
Great that there was an update on how Emma and Pablo are doing.
Thanks for the recap, Novelera. Good point out the hospital, Clara's father, the plot point to get Sam there, etc. This show has more holes than swiss cheese. But it's just as delicious!
I'm starting to like Laura a little more. Could have something to do with her new, non-cop wardrobe.
I really think JM is a cad, having gone from woman to woman, sleeping with them, he's also an incompetent lawyer, and a whiner. So I don't care if there's a future for him with Laura. But I really like Gustavo and Angela together. They even have food fights (usually the sign of a couple that will last). Gustavo is such a great guy, can't Angela just give up on that bum JM and tell Gus she loves him?
Me gusta mucho el cuerpo del
Verdugo!! He is so lean, trim, and defined, and for me has the best bod of all the guys on the show.
More parallel sex: Verdugo slams Reptile on the bed and Laura does the same to JM. I thought the unintentional Coitus Interruptus
was hysterical; Laura has a lot to learn about a guy with kids.
These folks seem to travel in a time-free travel zone - instant moving back and forth between countries, but I guess they all have their own planes...no messy delays. I loved the ending with
Sammy holding her daughter.
Thanks,again, Novelera
Excellent recap as usual. Thanks novelera.
I vote for Gus-Angela too!
I wonder why FF just doesn't get rid of the map? There should be more secrets. His father told her to keep the map as a security. So they have another motive for chasing and killing FF. What is it?
"Whoa" indeed, Hombre. This was a fabulous recap of what I found to be a very confusing episode. Before I read your description, I was completely lost among the political factions. I got it that Escobar was playing them all but I couldn't quite see how. Thank you for teasing apart the threads.
Marino's betrayal of Yesenia is hideous -- so what else is new? -- but your description is superb: "He gets in the jeep, eyes cast down, face ashen like death."
Who will actually get blown up by the crazy exploding car that the Cali guys are preparing? Because we KNOW it's not gonna be Pablo.
I really liked JM in the beginning, but too much has been revealed about his character flaws for me to want him and Angela together now.
Do we know why Gus & Laura broke up? Was it because she did not want kids?
Hombre, I was about 15 days behind with Pablo Escobar, but I have been catching up this week. I read your posts after each episode. The acting is marvelous.
So when I saw Fabiola just stroll up onto the "military base" and get handed a uniform I was like...you gotta be kidding me. And then the training, in Spanish no less and pure freedom in the luxury barracks. Every scene I'm thinking do these guys seriously expect us to believe that's how it goes? Wow. Then after 9 weeks the graduation, she just strolls off the installation and goes her own way...this thing has been pretty bad, but this right here sets an all time mark.
It was nice for a while with no Angela. The scenes that she gets just seem like filler, yet somehow she keeps that look like she's not quite sure of anything, just stupid. They don't have anything for the character and when they do, she can't sell it.
Clara reminds me of Salma Hayek for some reason. This new girl is beautiful.
What was up with Esteban drugging Sammy, in the middle of trying to rape her...and no charges pressed. Didn't they do this with this guy once already?? Unreal.
I had a feeling from the beginning that D.E.A. Javier wasn't on the up and up. This guy can act though, remember how good he was with Rocio his sister in Flor?
Anything with Fernanda bores me.
Also anything that comes out of Juan Marcos's mouth..can't take him serious. They've developed such a putz, too bad for the actor.
Weird, I thought they were gonna wrap this one up a long time ago but they just keep writing in new storylines..
I got mostly caught up this weekend, but my DVR messed up on Friday's episode.
Except for Corazón Valiente, other TV shows are slipping onto the back burner because of my Giants being in a pennant race! They've won their division, so I'm a happy camper.
Because I got very little of Friday, I'm confused. Didn't they already use that cattle crime already to get Pedro Montoa a very short sentence. Now they're doing it again?
So Marino is going to kill Yesenia himself, or let other Escobar guys do it?
Now that's a true psychopath move, telling Marino he has to choose his own death or Yesenia's. And, of course, the megalomania is that no man can ever have any woman that once was his. As if nearly every woman wouldn't prefer anyone except the fat pig.
I don't know if that's the intention of the writers, but they sure make the Colombian government look like a bunch of idiots. If the Colombian government has a charge against Montoa, then they can't extradite him for a US trafficking charge? What?
Tons of people are being killed, bombs exploding, and the idiots on the Colombian Supreme Court still have that non-extradition thing going on. What?
Rand, they showed Fabiola having signed up and having enrollment papers quite a few episodes ago. So she didn't just walk onto the base off the street. Apparently she had several weeks, I guess, before she was scheduled to actually appear after signing the papers. Miggy kept trying to talk her out of it, as did Rodrigo. But then she got up in the middle of the night and left, thinking she was saving Miggy from the harm of being around her.
True, being able to walk away after 9 weeks IS ridiculous.
Yeah, I remember her going to the recruiter...I wasn't sure she had actually signed up but I was just dumbfounded as I watched her salute some girl on the base and get handed her uniform! lol.
Novelera, you make a lot of good points. It does seem as if the Montoas are using the same cattle charges again. As for Marino, yes, I think he has to kill Yesenia himself, which is just sick.
As for the Colombian government, I sort of think the writers are making them out as stupider than they were, not really explaining their side. It could be that the Colombian Constitution says no Colombian citizens shall ever be transported off Colombian soil. If so, an extradition treat could be "unconstitutional". The officials keep saying they're bound by the law. We keep thinking they're babies. But since we never hear what the actual law is, it's hard for us to know the whole story.
On the other hand, maybe they WERE babies.
BTW, due to Monday night football, and Thursday Ravens football, some of my recaps will be delayed, but they'll eventually show up.
Novelera, contrats on the Giants. The Baltimore Orioles, who haven't had a winning record in 14 years, actually have a chance of making the playoffs this year!
Novelera, thanks so much for the recap.
As far as FF leaving after 9 weeks, I thought she was getting her leave after basic training. We'll see if she actually goes AWOL.
Hombre, they might send a team of ladies in tight tank tops to retrieve her. One can only hope!
J in Oregon
D8D appears in the delivery room, calling Mini-Sammy “mi niña”. Like Sam, Willy also experiences la llamada de la sangre, wanting to break down the door and be where Sam and the baby are. Snotty little Rod says Willy wishes it were him instead of his father. [Does Rod know the baby is not D8D’s? I don’t remember.]
D8D insists on taking the baby from Sammy, letting his pretense of being happy with Clara drop by telling Sam he’d always dreamed of having a child with her. The baby must also feel something too, because she cries when handed over to the miserable creep.
I guess Fabiola didn’t recognize El Verdugo. She shakes his hand. He puts on his best reassuring manner. Miggy tells him he has to understand that FF doesn’t quite trust anyone yet. Javierdugo says that he has the best DEA team on the job, and that El Verdugo will fall any minute now. He tells her she ought to give the map to the Colombian government. She tells him she’s not giving that map to anyone.
Ángela grabs Juan Cruz and, rather stupidly, accuses JM of not taking care of him. She snarks that she didn’t have to permit so many things, but she did (meaning his co-habiting with Laura). Outside the bedroom, Laura gets on Gus’ case for being there, saying he’s behaving like the papa of the family and taking Ángela everywhere. Laura says she can’t understand him being with Ángela after having been with a woman like her! Wow, these four are a stew of jealousy. Gus is the only one really behaving well.
Fabiola tells Javierdugo that she risked her life over and over for the map. He tells her he spent 3 months on this job and doesn’t want to die without catching El Verdugo. [OK, a moment of logic here. What does the whereabouts of the map have to do with whether or not El Verdugo is caught?] Fabiola tells Javierdugo that the map will die with her.
D8D follows Sam out, saying how happy he is. Sam is full of emotion. She says she hopes he will be a better father than he was to Fernanda and Willy. He then grosses her out more by saying he was telling the truth inside, that he would prefer that she were the mother of the child, and actually reaches as if to touch her pregnant belly. She grabs his hand and tells him she could never have a child with him. After she walks away, he says to himself that this is why she’ll be without her own daughter.
Sam tells Willy she can’t explain the emotions she felt at the birth of the child, and that the baby calmed down when she held it.
Nora talks with Nico and Jess about how odd it is for D8D to have a baby at his age. She tells them about Willy’s birth, and how excited D8D was to have a son. Nico asks how she felt when Fernanda was born, and her face changes.
The Reptile has somehow gotten Lucy. She behaves like a total jerk at the house in Colombia, telling the staff, including Ringo, that she could kill any one of them if it pleased her. She’s Victoria, a demon.
El Verdugo is in some room masked. He puts something on a red jacket, which turns out to be Alex’s. Alex asks him if he saw Miguel. Verdugo says it’s incredible she’s asking because he thought that any woman who had sex with him would forget about any other man. [Riiiiight!] He tells her it’s too bad Valdez didn’t give him the map because he’ll wind up dead. She tells him she’s going out with friends.
Miggy asks Fabiola what impression she had of Javier Falcón, and she says she thought she knew him from somewhere, but she can’t place it. She tells Miggy her father told her that the day she gives up the map she’ll die.
Laura tells JM that Ángela hates her. She asks him if he’s forgotten her. He says no.
Gus tells Ángela he’s not jealous of her son, and he doesn’t mind if she sleeps with the boy because of his having had a fever. Then he says that, even though it hurts him, he knows that she still loves JM.
Willy comes into Clara’s room. He tells D8D he saw his daughter, and she’s beautiful. Clara starts mumbling about the baby. Sam comes in and reassures her that the baby was born and is well. Clara keeps saying it’s not her daughter.
Alex shows up at Casa Arroyo to see Miggy. She goes right into his arms and kisses him. We see that Verdugo has put a camera in the zipper of her coat. Alex tells Miggy that she came to warn him that Verdugo would kill him if he doesn’t get what he wants. Fabiola looks on open mouthed. Miggy right away asks where Verdugo is and if she’s with him. She lies, saying he’s in Colombia. Fabiola moves over to stake her claim on Miggy. Watching through the camera El Verdugo says he’ll leave Fabiola to the last, like the exquisite thing she is – and he blows an air kiss at his laptop.
JM tells Laura that it’s not easy to get over a love like the one he and Angie had. She opens her robe to display her assets and makes a move, but Génesis knocks on the door saying she wants to sleep with her daddy.
Ángela insists she doesn’t love JM. Gus the Saint tells her that, if someday she realizes that she really still loves JM, she shouldn’t give him a moment’s thought. She should just go to JM.
FF leaves Miggy and Alex alone to say goodbye. Alex lies again, saying she doesn’t know where El Verdugo can be found and, when Miggy asks, says she doesn’t know that he’s ever been to the US. She says few have ever seen his face. He always wears a mask. Fabiola has come into the room and pipes up that she’s seen his face. El Verdugo sits up with interest.
Nora tells Sam she’s jealous and angry about the new baby, another daughter of D8D of whom she is not the mother. Sam catches on right away and asks if D8D has had children outside of his marriage.
D8D gives Clara a stern lecture. She’s to forget the baby isn’t biologically hers. Clara is worried about the real parents.
FF tells Miggy her father used to meet with a man who had a wife and a child. This man had no name – he was el Verdugo. She wants to remember what he looks like but she can’t.
Laura tells JM that maybe they rushed things living together. She’s going to leave his house. But not his life. JM suggests they get away to the beach a few days.
After one last try for Miggy, Alex takes off, leaving her coat behind. Miggy finds the camera immediately and speaks into it directly to El Verdugo telling him they’ll meet soon and “Show your face, coward!” Verdugo says to the laptop that his face will be the last thing Miggy sees.
The birth of Mini-Sammy has started Sam thinking again about Lorena possibly inseminating someone with their embryo.
Nuñez comes to tell D8D about the file folder with Clara’s name. But no one knows where the contents are. D8D thanks him and says that, now more than ever, no one can know the truth.
Nora comes to see D8D to congratulate him on his daughter’s birth. And, by the way, where’s the other one? She knows Fernanda is alive.
When Alex comes back, EV [I’m tired of typing El Verdugo] tortures her a bit, asking her about what movie she saw. Then he says that he saw everything, and that Miguel Valdez will die tonight.
Miggy and FF have told JM about the map. He thinks maybe she should turn it over, but also realizes that having it has kept her alive.
Rodrigo shows up to see Fabiola, and rushes past Miggy to drape himself all over Fabiola. He tells her how much he missed her. He has made a reservation at the best restaurant in LA, very expensive. What a lout! You don’t tell a potential date how much money you’re preparing to spend. FF replies that she can’t do that. He can’t believe his ears, but she tells him she needs to spend her time with the man she loves. Rod sashays out, saying he’ll wait until this little love fades away. Miggy tells him he better wait sitting down.
The Reptile continues to ingratiate herself with the folks in Colombia, not! She chews Ringo out for not having asked permission to sit in the Living Room. She gets real close to him and asks if he’s killed a lot of people. Ringo isn’t saying. He says he’s known EV since they were kids. EV’s father rescued him from his family. But his father is dead. EV killed him. [I think they meant that EV killed his own father; but since she used the su possessive, it could have meant that she was confirming that EV killed Ringo’s father, using the formal you with him.]
[Now I’m speculating that the fact that our current EV looks too young to have been an accomplice of D8D in kidnapping Sam could be explained by it being the elder EV.]
JM continues his rude behavior. He arrives at Gus’ house with Génesis and demands to see Ángela. He’s told she’s not there just now. Gus was on the sofa with Violeta and Juan
Cruz. JM: “What? She left my son with you?” Ángela comes in and tells him she didn’t leave JC with a stranger; she left him with Gus. JM tries to make it sound like a business trip being the reason he’s bringing Génesis, but G pipes up that he’s going to the beach with Laura.
Willy comes to see Clara, who is not happy to see him. She tells him he’s not the baby’s brother because he doesn’t love her, and he doesn’t love his father. He asks her what was going on between her and Esteban de la Vega. She denies a relationship. Willy tells her about the file folder with her name on it. She gets huffy, saying he was a bad man who tried to separate her from D8D.
Miggy gives Fabiola what looks like about a 5-carat diamond ring, telling her there’s no microchip in it! He asks her to marry him.
EV’s thugs arrive and kill JM’s wimpy security guys in a NY minute. Miggy: “They’ve found us!” He exchanges gunfire with the guys as he and Fabiola run for the Panic Room.
Camilo brings Clara flowers. She’s pretty rude to him also. D8D shows up, of course, asking what Luis is doing there.
Sam and Willy show up at Gus’s place for dinner with he and Ángela. Gus tells them that a doctor at the psychiatric place confessed. The Reptile is alive.
JM and Laura are having dinner, presumably near the beach. We hear the Reptile’s voice coming through a cell phone that some thug guy is carrying. She wants Laura dead.
Miggy and FF get into the Panic Room, which is locked by Miggy putting his fingerprint on some sort of sensor.

Thanks so much novelera for another excellent recap.
Where is Verdugo's son? I wonder if Javier is Verdugo's son. Maybe Verdugo was killed by FF's father and his son wants to take revenge on FF!
NovelaObserver, I got the impression that our current Verdugo (Gregorio Pernia) may be son of Verdugo.
So to answer your question, we may be seeing Son of Verdugo; i.e. Javier.
But it could also be that Ringo, who has known Javierdugo since they were children, was mistreated by his father and Verdugo Senior killed him to save the boy.
Not sure because of the way it was phrased in Spanish, whether the father killed was Verdugo's father or Ringo's father.
There's a surprise birthday party for Pablo at Nápoles. I think he's 38. They give him a motorcycle with a sidecar. His parents are there, and everyone's happy.
Yesenia is packing her things. Her brother Javier tells her he's worried about her and “those people”, but after a big hug, he watches through the chain link fence as she happily walks off to her new life with Marino.
Dr. Bedoya is trying to convince a judge to withdraw Pedro Montoa's drug charges his own attorneys have brought, which have the effect of negating extradition, through the strange rule that if a Colombian citizen is up for the same charges in Colombia and in the U.S., he can't be extradited. “They're making fun of our whole legal system,” he charges. He even says the cartel brothers should be charged with homicide (and we see a hit on someone in a car I didn't recognize), but Pedro's lawyer says you don't have any proof.
Yesenia is waiting on a park bench with her little suitcase. Here come the boys in their SUV. Marino says he can't do it. The others urge him to “be a man”. He walks over to Yesenia, hugs her. “Where's your suitcase, honey? she asks. And why are you sweating?” While hugging her, Marino draws his pistol from behind his back, holds it to Yesenia's ribs, and presses the trigger. She staggers back, unbelieving. He then shoots her twice more in the chest, and rushes back to the car. The deed is done.
Miguel, the paramilitary guy, has Nápoles well guarded. He's at the birthday party, too. Pablo is a little worried about Miguel's brother Lucio, who really hates leftists, but Miguel says I have him under control, and I gave you my word. Okay, fine, says Pablo, then I'll tell you my new strategy. Killing was working, but we need to take it to a new level. We should start kidnapping important people. I want you to present me with some names.
Marino is distraught, riding at high speed on his motorcycle.
The judge decided to grant Bedoya's request to close the Montoa drug investigation. This means that only the US charges remain, and Pedro could be extradited. The Minister of Justice, Francisco Moreno, makes the announcement. Also, a bust of Guillermo Cano is erected in his honor.
Gerardo, the injured Cali cartel brother, thinks for sure Pedro will be released. Gildardo thinks Pedro will be extradited. So they make a bet. 1 million pesos, and Gerardo even gives 5 to 1 odds. If Pedro is released, Gerardo wins, and he'll then use his bomb car to kill Escobar. If Pedro is extradited, Gildardo wins, and gets the car.
We see Marino in a hospital bed. Apparently he fell off his moto and hurt his leg, just driving around in desperation. Pablo, next to his little daughter, who is playing a full size arcade game that Pablo has installed at his ranch for her to practice her shooting skills (I'm half joking here), congratulates Marino for making the right choice, and tells him he has a new mission.
We then see Marino and Pavon blow up that bust of Guillermo Cano. In the ruins on the ground, there's a plaque, which reads “We need peace to live in a civilized manner, not dying at the wrong moment like savages.” I learned that “destiempo” means at the wrong moment or wrong time.
There's one little problem with the Montoa case, though. Since his own charges were dropped, there's no order of capture against him. What's keeping him in jail? Pablo and Gonzalo discuss this. Pablo says we should play it cool. If we do something drastic, like bust him out, they'll recapture him. But it's December, almost Christmas, and the government guys aren't paying much attention. Pedro might just get released under their noses.
Yesenia's brother Javier is at the gate of Mónaco, Pablo's high rise. I want to see Marino! Cain and Kiko pull guns on him, and threaten him, throwing him out before he gets killed, too. Marino is actually at Yesenia's grave (she was 22), giving her flowers, weeping.
Since there's no current order of capture for Pedro Montoa, his lawyers are getting him an order of release. Minister Moreno wants to stop this, goes to see the judge who issued it, but he's “on vacation.” Moreno tells the President we won't honor the order of release, of course. But meanwhile, there's a riot (motin) at Modelo prison, and the government officials have to go there to restore order. Minister Moreno realizes that this is a diversion, and rushes in his car over to Picota prison, where the guards have been given the order of release. But he's too late. Before he arrives, Pedro has packed his clothes, and calmly walked right out the front door of the prison, a free man!
Miguel has suggested for the kidnap victim Andres Pastranangano, journalist and politician.
New Years Eve: At the Cali hacienda, Gildardo pays up on his bet, as Gerardo gloats. I told you Montoa would be released! He contemplates his bomb car, as fireworks go off. Over at Nápoles, they're also celebrating with fireworks, and they burn an effigy of someone (not sure who, or if it's just a New Year's tradition).
1988: The government leaders meet. They're outraged that Pedro Montoa walked right out the door of the prison. But one judge was also outraged, and new orders of capture have been issued, for Pedro, Julio and German Montoa, Gonzalo Ramirez, and Pablo Escobar!! This is on the news, and Pati and Pablo aren't happy, back in their high rise at Mónaco. Pablo talks to Pedro on the phone. Pedro wants to flee. But Pablo says we still have Colonel Pedregal on our payroll. He'll warn us when they're coming.
The President, the Justice Minister and General Ulloa all agree it should be simple now. All we have to do is arrest those five criminals. The Minister says the word is that they're just walking the streets of Medellin with impunity. No, says Ulloa, my Colonel Pedregal says they've disappeared, and we need more men to have an investigation. That's crap, says the President. Pedregal is a loser. Replace him.
Pablo calls Pedregal. Can I sleep easy just this one night? Pedregal says yes, but after tomorrow, I can't protect you any more.
Gerardo from Cali talks on the phone to a young sicario. Set your alarm early, son. Tomorrow's the day!
Pati and Pedro go to sleep for the night.
General Ulloa calls Major Aristides in the middle of the night. Starting tomorrow, Pedregal is out. You will head the Antioqua police force!
5:30 A.M. January 13, 1988. Pati wakes up. Pablo is already dressed. What's up, honey? I just have a little concern, he says. I'm going to a secure location. She passes him his little black book. Take care of the kids. They kiss.
We see the bomb car, a few blocks away, the sicario has woken up. 3 SUVs zoom past (presumably carrying Pablo and crew). The sicario doesn't notice them, says okay, it's about time to move. He drives the car to the gate of Mónaco. He gets out, runs away, and there's a HUGE explosion. It's so devastating, it appears to have destroyed the whole building, with Pati and the kids inside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I left my notes at home so I’m just going to wing it. Not that much happened anyway.
Throughout the entire episode Miggy and FF are holed up in the Panic Room at JM’s house. Their only communication with the outside, a satellite phone, is not working. At one point, they run out of the Safe Room with their handy chloroform pads and guns and take out some of the bad guys but they go back in without managing to notify the police by a land line or cell phone. During their many avowals of love while stuck in the Panic Room, FF reveals that she has had the treasure map tattooed on herself!! At some point Verdugo shows up at the house. So not only are there cameras in the rooms of the house where Miggy and FF can watch what the bad guys are doing, there have to be microphones and speakers because Miggy and Verdugo talk to one another. Finally, Verdugo says that he has a bomb and if Miggy and FF don’t come out, he will blow up the whole house. Apparently, during all this time nobody has stopped by JM’s house or noticed that the guards haven’t called in or anything.
Camilo has brought flowers to Clara in the hospital. D8D shows up and asks what he is doing there. Camilo improvises and says that he considers himself more than business associate of D8D. He’s also a friend. D8D sets him straight. He doesn’t mix business and his family and if he finds out that Camilo is hanging around Clara, he will kill him.
Gus tells Sam, Willy and Angie that the police have confirmed that the Reptile is not dead. They know that she went to a cosmetic surgery clinic first and then left the country. Willy says that such an elaborate escape is beyond the resources of his father. Gus agrees that there has to be a big organization behind this. [The police know from Camilo that D8D is involved with Verdugo, can’t they connect the dots?] Bottom line – if the Reptile is at large, no one is safe.
Camilo tells Gus and Angie that he remembered that during their night of drinking, D8D told him that he killed Darío Sandoval. Gus was the investigating officer for that incident and he recalls that Estela was the only witness to what happened. Angie is upset to learn that her mother might have been involved in Darío’s death.
JM and Laura decide to forget about their ex’s and their pasts and just be together. Unfortunately, they are being trailed by some killers hired by the Reptile on her own. At least Ringo doesn’t know about them. JM and Laura are just getting started in bed when they hear noises. They sneak around and find the police guard dead but apparently the bad guys have left. They end up at a hotel. JM asks Laura why she and Gus broke up. Laura says that she isn’t sure that this is the right moment but she will show him why. She goes out and comes back in a dominatrix outfit with a whip and asks JM to use it on her!!
Gustavo catches Génesis eating a cake in the kitchen by sticking her face into it. She has gotten a frosting moustache. her face. Gustavo is not angry. [I would have asked why she is behaving like a 2-year old? Can’t she use a knife and fork?] Génesis tells Gus that she likes him better with Angie than she likes Laura with JM. Laura isn’t any fun. [I guess it depends on what kind of fun you want to have.]
Willy tells Nora that the Reptile is alive.
Verdugo sends Alex back to Colombia.
Jessica is staying at Sam and Willy’s while Clara is in the hospital. Jessica’s mother calls Sam in the middle of the night and demands that Jessica return to D8D’s. D8D shows up at the house to fetch Jessica. He drops the bombshell that Nora killed Jessica’s grandmother while in prison and that is why Jessie’s mother doesn’t want her to be at Sam and Willie’s. Jessie is very upset. She didn’t even know that her grandmother had been in prison. She wants to leave with D8D. Sam and Willy explain what happened to Nic but he tells them that he needs to be with Jessica. Willy then finds a note saying that Nora has left the house because her presence is causing problems for Sam, Willy and Nic.
I think that was about it.
I went back to the scene from Monday with Ringo and the Reptile, and watched with English captions. Ringo does say that Verdugo's father saved Ringo from Ringo's family. Then he says Verdugo's father is dead, and that Verdugo killed him (his own father). So despite the age problem, I think there's only one Verdugo, the one we see, who is maybe about 40, much older than FF, and has been around 20 years. Not sure, of course!
Great recap, Jean, of another wild episode!
ITA that the two way conversation between the panic room and someone looking at the security camera outside is stupid (technically), but it was great for the story.
I was amused that FF said the tattoo of the rest of the map was on her private parts. When Miggy said he didn't see it, she said you need a magnifying glass! (una lupa) Can I be the investigating officer in this case? :)
I also think the police have plenty of evidence to arrest D8D for drugs, and by waiting to arrest his "superior", Verdugo, they're putting lots of innocent people at risk. Ah, why not?
I thought Laura's secret would be that she was infertile, and Gus wanted kids. Boy, was I surprised when she came out in that outfit!
thanks so much Hombre !!!
something about Yesenia,
maybe the character,
maybe the actress,
but I really liked her,
this was horrible,
the ultimate betrayal.
and now Pablo's world moves on like it never happen...

Colombian Car Bomb Kills 2 and Wounds 5
January 13, 1988 | Associated Press
A car bomb exploded early today, killing two private security guards, wounding five other people and leaving a 16-foot-deep crater in front of an apartment building frequented by a reputed cocaine baron, officials said. Mayor William Jaramillo Gomez said the bomb blew up in front of the Monaco apartment building, which is owned by a relative of Pablo Escobar Gaviria. U.S."

Hey Jean, you wing it pretty good! You captured everything and left out the inanity and jealous squabbling.
Now, Fabby is what, about 20 or 22? and before she came to the U.S., Miggy said she had been in the jungle for 8 years. So supposing she was 12 or so when her mother was killed, El Verdugo could have been a 20 year old at the time and still be around 30 now. Just trying to figure out if there have been EV, padre y hijo.
J in Oregon
Verdugo shows Miggy and FF the bomb. They have one hour to decide whether to come out of the Panic Room or die in the explosion. [An hour seems like an awfully long time to make a decision.] Verdugo leaves some of his guys with the bomb. He tells them to take FF alive and kill Miggy. He assures them that Miggy and FF will come out of the room before the bomb explodes. We see the clock counting down.
Laura explains the rules of the sex game to JM. No one has to do anything they don’t want to; it’s role playing; you can be the victim or the “victimario,” (a word I wasn’t familiar with but means killer or assasin, basically the opposite of victim); the master or the slave. Laura says that she likes to be the slave [in spite of the fact that she is dressed like a dominatrix] and offers JM the whip.
Tick tock goes the bomb. FF tells Miggy that she is not afraid if they die together.
Sam reassures Willy that Nora will be ok. Willy feels the baby kick.
Nora comes to visit Clara. She asks Clara to take care of the baby and of D8D. She says that she looked at the baby in the nursery and couldn’t believe that she was D8D’s child. Clara tells Nora that she doesn’t seem to be a bad person. Nora tells Clara that D8D is a monster, capable of horrible things.
D8D does his best Mr. Pitiful, my family hates me shtick for Jessie. He tells her there is no need to fear him. She lets him take her hand. Yuck!
Tick tock goes the bomb. Miggy and FF vow their love for one another, etc.
Gus tells Angie that Laura was the target of the attempted murder at the beach house. Both Laura and Angie are in danger.
JM puts aside the whip but tells Laura that he likes the boots. He says that he prefers conventional sex but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring.
Tick tock goes the bomb.
Willy finds Sam on the floor unconscious.
Tick tock goes the bomb. There’s five minutes left. Verdugo’s guys don’t want to die in an explosion. They leave. Miggy and FF leave the Panic Room and get the bomb. Miggy says that he doesn’t know anything about defusing bombs but he has seen a lot of movies and he knows that it is done by cutting wires. There are two wires: green and red. He cuts one and the clock keeps ticking so he cuts the other one. Verdugo sees a small explosion.
Miggy and FF escape from the house and hide on the grounds. They see Verdugo and his guys leave. In a flashback, we see Miggy cutting the other wire which stops the clock. [Hey Miggy, in the movies, if you cut the wrong wire, the bomb explodes!] By a lucky chance, there is something in the Panic Room that can produce a small explosion, which convinces Verdugo that his bomb exploded.
I guess Laura hasn’t been having sex with the right conventional guys. She tells JM that even though there was nothing their lovemaking that she thought she would like, it was a wonderful night.
D8D is on the phone with the Reptile chewing her out for trying to kill Laura. He tells her to get over her obsession with JM. She has a chance to be the mistress of Verdugo’s whole operation. He says that if this continues he will end up killing JM himself. [Why?]
“No mates,” says the Reptile (You don’t kill). “No mataba,” replies D8D (I didn’t kill).
Nora comes to see D8D. She says that D8D has his wife and baby why can’t he let her have the kids (Nic and Jessie) and stay out of her life. D8D kisses her and she responds (Yechh!) and then runs away.
Sam wakes up in the hospital. Willy tells her that the baby is ok. She had a drop in blood pressure that caused her to faint.
Miggy and FF tell Gus and Duval about what happened at JM’s house. Gus says that he hasn’t been able to reach Javier and that he is probably using a false name. [He can’t reach someone who works for a Government agency? It’s not like he’s under cover. He wears a DEA jacket and hat. Shouldn’t that make the police suspicious? Oh, of course not.]
Verdugo is very angry and his employees who screwed up the bomb scenario. He kills one of them.
JM and Laura return from the beach and go to the police station. Not without reason, JM is upset that someone tried to kill Laura at the beach and then someone else blew up his house. Miggy reassures him that there wasn’t too much damage.
Sam wants to hold Clara’s baby.
Camilo goes to see D8D and says that his clients want more merchandise right away. D8D tells him to be patient.
Javierdugo calls Miggy. Miggy meets him alone and explains how he and FF disarmed the bomb and escaped from JM’s house. Once again, Javierdugo suggests that he, Miggy and FF go to Colombia and turn over the map.
JM tells Gus that he better not hurt Angie. He has a vision of Angie in the dominatrix outfit playing sex games with Gus.
Sam is holding Clara’s baby when D8D comes in. He says that it’s too bad that she is his daughter and not Sam’s. Willy tells D8D that they know that the Reptile is alive and that D8D helped her escape. He says that he will never call D8D “Papa” again.
In a very funny scene, JM tries to warn Gus not to get Angie involved in SM sex games without coming out and saying so. Finally, Gus figures out what he is talking about and says that is not his style but Angie is confused as to why JM thinks that Gus would harm her.
D8D scolds Clara for letting Sam hold her baby. He tells Clara that he knows who the natural parents of her baby are but they will never take the baby away. At first, Clara is upset that he won’t tell her who the parents are but then she says that she will never let anyone take her baby away.
Miggy tells Gus that he and FF have decided to go to Colombia and give the map to the chief (“jefe”) of the DEA. He says that they have no alternative.
Willy finds Sam crying in her hospital room. The doctor has told her that this blood pressure problem is putting her life and the life of the baby at risk.
Miggy and FF are at an airplane hanger. Miggy says that he had doubts about doing this. Miggy tells Javierdugo that the map isn’t complete – it’s missing an important part. He ways that FF will tell the Colombian government were the other part of the map is.
The Reptile calls JM and warns him that he is hers and any other woman with him will die. At that moment a van drives up, the guys inside open fire and Laura appears to be hit.
tick,tock,tick,tock, ha!
I kind of thought they would be safe in the panic room,
even with the bomb, which didn't look too big,
JM's vision of Goose and Angela in the dominatrix getup cracked me up,
I guess they can't show them (Gus and Angela) having sex,
Angela being the leading lady and all,,
but they are, aren't they?
on Clara's baby,
wouldn't Sammi and Willy need some kind of proof,
in order to recover the baby,
like the file that was under the tray,
and I'm beginning to wonder if Clueless Clara will have to die to clear the road,
D8D drives me nuts,
but when he moves in close on the young ladies,
with the touchy, feely stuff,
arrrg,
when the Reptile calls JM,
the way her tentacles reach far and wide,
and I remember all of the death and destruction she has brought into JM's life
I can't help but feel sorry for the guy,
she has really wrapped him around a pole.
JM has never made the right connections, took action, and got a step up on her,
while she continues to play him,
unless he can turn things around, and beat her at her own game,
even if she dies, she will always haunt him.
Pablo hears an explosion behind the SUV. He calls Pati, but there’s no answer. We see that Pati is in shock, has some bruises, but is okay. Emilio is dazed but also okay. But a big bookcase or mattress fell on the little girl (I’ve never caught her name), and she is unconscious and bleeding.
Pablo meets with Pedregal, who makes a call and confirms the explosion was at Mónaco, but his guys had nothing to do with it. We see what looks like actual footage from the ruins of the building in 1988. Pablo staggers out of the car, physically ill. He falls to the ground, almost puking, as his guards ask whether they should take him to the hospital. But he pulls himself together.
Pedregal has heard that Aristides is replacing him, and calls to angrily berate the Major. Aristides says our personal matters are not important, catching the criminals is. Pedregal says well I bet you didn’t even know that Pablo Escobar’s building was bombed. Aristides wonders how Pedregal knew, but Pedregal is going to use this to maybe salvage his career, and says let’s check all the clinics for his family.
The boys go to the nearest clinic. Chili and Topo go in and find a dazed Pati and an uninjured Emilio, but the little girl is nowhere to be found, and Pati can barely hear or talk (she’s still in her nightgown). Pablo lunges in, waving a gun, runs past everyone to Pati, who squeak out that the little girl is in the operating room. Pablo then burst into the operating room, sees his daughter with a bloody ear, out cold on the table, points the gun at the helpless doctors and nurses, tells them if they don’t save his little girl, he will kill each and every one of them!
The news tell that in this 8 story building, only Pablo Escobar and his family lived there, in the penthouse, plus a few guards. A dozen antique cars were found (ruined), along with priceless works of art (also ruined). The President asks General Ulloa how could this guy live so openly and not be caught? Ulloa says our man Pedregal always insisted Escobar was not in Medellin. Well, says the President, Pedregal can continue on the Medellin police if they’ll have him, but he’s never working in the National Police again.
Pablo is furious with rage. He knows the Cali cartel did it. He assigns Fabio to watch his family, and Gonzalo to secure the financial side of things. Chili and Topo are assigned to contact the world’s greatest bomb experts, the Basques, in Spain, and get info on making a super bomb, to get back at the Cali cartel.
Around the dinner table, Emilio asks, Mommy, who wants to kill us? Nobody, honey. The little girls pops into the room. She’s fine, just has a bandage on her ear. I guess those doctors can breathe easier now. Emilio asks when he can go back to school. Pati tells him he won’t be going to school, for now.
Pablo has a copy of a Wanted Poster with his picture on it. He’s not surprised. But he’s excited. The guys are going to test their bomb car. Chili got the plans from Spain, and they set the fuse, move back about 50 yards, press the remote control, and there’s a HUMONGOUS explosion! Smiles break out all around. We love it!
Thanks Jean.
It was a very entertaining episode. The SM game scenes with JM, Laura, Gus and Angela, and also FF and Miggy's locuras were really funny.
Great recap, Jean! Yes, they just happened to have a small explosion in that room to fool the bad guys. Okaaay.
I really can't figure out how giving the map to the DEA, or the Colombian police helps anyone find Verdugo? Does this make ANY sense? After all, Verdugo is here in the US, no? (Miggy and FF saw him). And yes, one would think that Javier's behavior is suspicious, but oh well.
I don't think Clara has to die, because Camilo loves her, and he needs a girlfriend.
When D8D was kissing Nora, I was really hoping someone would catch them (and tell Clara).
I liked how Sam thought Clara's baby had the same nose as her baby (who is now Nicolas). Although to me, baby noses don't vary that much (could be wrong here).
I first saw the actor who playes Javierdugo in Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso, where he played (of course), a Colombian druglord. Somehow, in that show, he was way scarier, super intense, to the point people were almost afraid to be in a room with him. Last night, when he shot his guard, it was so cartoonish, it didn't really register. But I guess that's just the nature of this show, sort of cartoony within all the killing, accidents, trials, babies, etc.
thanks so much Hombre!
as I've mentioned before, I am using your recaps to be able to follow this one.
I saw the actor playing Pablo (Andrés Parra), for a second, on the morning show,
his hair clean and curly, but cut and parted the same,
so I think that might be his real hair.
(btw, I think they are still filming and we are currently 24 epi's behind what is being shown in Colombia)
The writers/directors/production guys, are painting for us a very real picture of Pablo,
can't say that it is the real Pablo Escobar,
but still a very real picture for us.
and I have noticed that Pablo is no dummy,
Jason killing Yesenia, really brings home that his inner circle will do 'anything' he asks them to,
from Gonzalo on down,
I remember when Chili started to stray, and Pablo reeled him back in,
he IS very good at this.
and curious how he manages his 'somewhat normal' family,
in the midst of all of this violence.
Hombre, I agree that the scene of Verdugo killing his guard was awful. It wasn't even comic! Too bad acting especially on the victim's part.
Great job, Hombre! Thank you.
I was struck by the way the camera seemed to linger on Marino in the background, silently watching Pablo's histrionics in the face of the mere possibility of losing his family. Imagine Marino's bitterness and self-loathing. How can he not also be feeling homicidal rage towards this "patrón" of his, this maniac who believes that only his loved ones have any human worth?
I hope Marino lives long enough to betray Escobar.
That's interesting about Andrés Parra on the Morning Show. Maybe he was just deliberately staying in character so people would recognize him and he could promote the show more effectively.
In the September "People en español" p. 60, there's a little feature which says:
"... in order to look more like [Escobar] he had to shave his head and wear a wig."
Parra himself says: "When I take off the wig and take out the contact lenses, Escobar disappears and the person I see [in the mirror] is Andrés."
The article has a large photo of him in character and a smaller one showing him as his blue-eyed, shaven-headed self, seated next to actress Angie Cepeda ("Regina").
Thanks, Jean. Enjoyed your recap!
I would translate what D8D said to the Reptile as: I didn't use to kill.
Yep, if Laura wants to be the slave, she's unclear on the concept of what to wear.
If Clara is fiercely determined to hang onto Mini-Sammy, then I don't give her much chance to survive.
Has there ever been a pregnancy in a novela without at least one dramatic scene where it looks like the heroine might lose the baby, but they manage to save it?
Hombre, you and I are on the same page. Miggy, who is portrayed as super intuitive, can't see that there's no connection between the map and catching Verdugo.
Interesting information about Andrés Parra.
I saw him in El Cartel with a bald, shaved head, playing a character who was called Anestesia. They all had nicknames, so that must have been one also.
Don't remember what color his eyes were. But he was the most sympathetic of the narcos. He got conned by a crooked DEA agent and ended up in prison. He was a VERY devoted husband and father. And I think he was a lot heavier in that role.
Because of that bald head, I was pretty sure the curly black hair was a wig. But it's a good one.
thanks NovelaMaven!
I didn't really catch much of the segment on 'Un Nuevo Día',
and he wasn't actually there,
he could have been on the set of Pablo.
love all of the little facts you always seem to have,
and thanks for setting me straight,
I always enjoy your comments!
(intriguing to watch this actor, and I certainly hope he is nothing like Pablo)
I guess if they give the map to the Colombian police, Verdugo could stop bothering Miggy and FF, and go right to the Colombian police, and they will have "found" him. Maybe.
Wow! Excellent acting job by Parra portraying Escobar's fear and grief, thinking he'd lost his entire family.
So, I guess this really happened? I also thought, Hombre, that it looked like they showed some real scenes of the aftermath of the bombing.
God, those Colombian cops are inept. They knew he was in the hospital and they couldn't get some police on the scene to nab him?
I'm wondering if the Yesenia thing really happened. It is just unbelievable to me that Marino could continue to be one of Escobar's loyal henchmen and be around him every day after his forcing him to kill the woman he loved.
It WAS unbelievable that he was living in a penthouse in the middle of Medellín and NOBODY ratted him out. Oh, wait, Osama bin Laden did the same thing.
Thanks, Novelera, for the better translation of "mataba".
I don't think Clara has to die. I predict she will gradually realize that D8D is a bad guy, repent her errors, give the baby to Willy and Sam and find happiness with Camilo.
I agree that women on novelas frequently have crises in their pregnancies. But I believe, based on the previews, that Sam is in the hospital for another reason.
They seem to have sort of dropped the idea of using the map to catch Verdugo idea and have substituted getting rid of the map to keep Verdugo from continually trying to kill Miggy/capture FF. It doesn't make much sense especially since FF just swore up and down that she would never give up the map while she was alive.
My pleasure, Deb -- although you're the one who always seems to come up with the fascinating info, especially where history is concerned.
I too hope the actor is nothing at all like the sociopath he plays so brilliantly!
I don’t have a lot of time this morning so this will be a short one. It was kind of a weird choppy episode anyway.
A lot of the episode was devoted to Miggy and FF going to Colombia. Before getting on the plane, Miggy is suspicious but when he confirms some information about Colombian officials that Javierdugo gave him, he is reassured. Then Alex manages to call Miggy. Before she can transmit any useful information, the Reptile catches her and ends the call. Miggy and FF get on the plane and go to Colombia and then check into a hotel there. Tomorrow they are supposed to give the map to a minister in the Colombian government who is in the pay of Verdugo. Miggy takes a picture of the map tattooed on FF’s backside since presumably she doesn’t want to drop her pants in front of everyone. [This tattoo is hardly in a very intimate place. It would be visible if she wore a not very small bikini.]
Laura has been shot in the arm. At first the Reptile thinks that she has succeeded in killing her presumed rival but later finds out the attempt failed. Laura goes to the hospital. JM wants her to stay away from him because of the danger but Laura says that she is hard to kill and police officers might be killed any time.
Sam comes home from the hospital but she can’t stop thinking about Clara’s baby. Sam and Willy find out that Nora is at Angie’s. Willy takes Nic over there. He apologizes and asks for Nora to return to their house. Nora says maybe later.
Clara comes home with the baby. She tells D8D that she is beginning to fall in love with him. She also says that even though the baby doesn’t have any of her genes, she feels that the baby is hers and will never let anyone take the baby from her.
Rodrigo arranges a small celebration for D8D and Clara. Angie shows up ostensibly to tell D8D to stay away from her family and friends but really to be able to use her nursing skills (remember that Angie was a nurse before she was a cake baker and a bodyguard) to revive the baby when she stops breathing. Sam gets the usual “mal presentimiento.”
Back in Colombia, Javierdugo goes home. The Reptile rats out Alex. Javierdugo calls her in. She begs him not to kill her. She says that she will help him get FF. They start to kiss [can you imagine kissing someone in that mask?], fall down on the bed and Alex pulls Javierdugo’s mask off. He shoots her, drags her off the bed so that she doesn’t bleed all over the bedspread and when he sees that she is still alive, he shoots her in the head.
After his henchmen take the body out, the Reptile asks Javierdugo (tired of typing Javierdugo, will be J/V henceforth) if he killed Miggy. J/V says no. He want to enjoy the moment. He wants to destroy FF’s belief that Miggy is her hero. And he wants FF for himself. Meanwhile, Miggy asks FF to marry him.
JM and Laura come to stay at Willy’s house. Out of respect for Angie, Sam wants separate rooms for them but Willy insists on putting them in one room.
JM and Willy are chatting over drinks: Willy wants lots more children; JM not so much.
Sam sneaks out of the house and goes to the hospital where the baby is in intensive care. With total disregard for patient privacy, a nurse tells Sam that the baby is not responding to treatment and will probably die. With total disregard for patient safety, Sam is permitted to go into the neonatal intensive care unit without even gloves, much less gowns and masks (the nurses aren’t wearing masks either). A little hand sanitizer and Sam is reaching into the incubator.
I'm having friends over for dinner tonight, so likely won't get to watch the novela until tomorrow (Saturday). Expect a Saturday afternoon recap from me.
NovelaMaven and/or Jean, whoever posts the next week's link, could you paste my message in there also, if you have an opportunity.
Thanks, Jean. You're right about a rather odd episode.
I guess they were trying to up the tension on whether or not Miggy and FF were actually going to end up in Colombia.
I loved the expression on the Reptile's face when J/V told her he was going to have FF for himself. Once again she's not the number one choice of a man she's interested in.
It was sort of odd the way he said it, as if this had been his plan all along, or as if he'd observed her in the past and made this decision before. OR you could say that that up and down look he gave her when he was introduced to her at the Arroyo house.
There is a typical meme of telenovela villains that both D8D and J/V embody. And this is that they are always able to jump the bones of whatever warm female body is there in front of them. So, knowing about Alex's "betrayal" he was still ready and willing to do the deed, until she pulled off his mask.
And, please, she's shot in the abdomen and no blood gets on the bedspread?
I suppose the magic hands of Mini-Sammy's real mother will save her life.
I can hardly wait to see how Miggy gets he and FF safely out of Colombia, something that I'm sure will happen.
I missed all but the last ten minutes of the episode this morning. Emilio, Lorena and their daughter attended a special Easter Egg hunt. As the director was about to start the hunt, Frank finally shows up, but since Em was there, he had to sit on the sidelines and watch Em and his daughter have fun searching for the colored eggs.
OK, Novelera, I put your message in the "draft" of this week's post just in case I have a pedo de cerebro tonight and forget.
Now if I can just remember to POST the draft ...
:)
Some funny moments; one I found hysterical was when Gus said to Angela that he would really like to have children with her. The look on her face was priceless. She's already drowning in confusion and horrific deeds that never stop happening to her family.
Thanks so much Jean.
The actor playing J/V is too fast and kind of killing the drama. On the other hand he doesn't seem as powerful, and as self-confident as one would expect him to be.
"I can hardly wait to see how Miggy gets he and FF safely out of Colombia". Yo tambien, novelera :)
