Abismo de pasión #121 8/31/12: Of Course She Said Yes! Did You See the Size of That Ring?
Labels: abismo
"Next week, I would like to see him watching paint dry or grass grow as long as he’s shirtless". Lord help us, watching grass grow may be an improvement over this convoluted mess.
I still keep shaking my head how the writers will make this go for WEEKS yet! At this point since they are looking for ways to drag this all out, maybe they can give us some cooking lessons on the use of habeneros. I'm game.
Almost had to laugh when Gael was looking for that infernal shot-gun. Another one who wants to shoot up the town with no idea how to work the damn thing. Let's see my dear, your mother got gob-smacked and shows the bruises to prove it--how about reporting to the inept police dept instead of landing yourself in jail shooting someone. You kinda sorta would miss your wedding day doing that.
I think Irritating just wrote her death warrant. You can piss off a lot of people, but do NOT mess with Carmina, especially when it comes to a snipe about losing her baby. Can't say I'll be shedding any tears when II meets her maker--question will be, who will do it and who will get blamed. Oh....another trite, frustrating way to drag things out. Someone wrongly accused and we get a lame trial and lots of scenes with the jail again. ARGH!!
I'd like to start a table to salute all the poor slobs working at these failing plants and fields, and at the new processing plant that has a CEO who could care less about running the place. We feel for you.
"Elisa immediately and single-handedly sets the women’s rights movement back thirty years as she enters the office wearing some blue-jean daisy-dukes." Amen, sister!
"Next week, I would like to see him watching paint dry or grass grow as long as he’s shirtless."
;o)
Has Braulio divorced Tonia yet? If not, shame on him for smooching on Dolores.
Has Flo considered that since Dam doubts the paternity of her fake baby, he might have a DNA test done???
I'll be out of town next week and will be relying on the recaps and commentario to keep me up on the plot, which is moving at a snail's pace. I can only hope the GSW (gunshot wound) in the previews is fatal.....
Alfonsina has not killed anyone (yet), but how can anyone forget she was ready to mow down some children with a car?!
What in the world to these men see in these women? Could someone tell me if these women were also in the original story? Is it usual to have that many horrible women in one story?
Can you imagine what these three would do to each other if they were left alone in a room to fight it out to the bitter end? Holy cow.
Thanks, Cynderella!
I think it's time for Alfie to see Horacio again.
Your commentary on the ring was golden as were your description of Gall looking for the gun and Lolita being a good girl.
It is sad to see this show becoming more crazy based on its extension. I wish producers would realize how harmful this is to audiences ;)
Ramona knows that Gael is engaged to Elisa but creeping around with Paloma because he knows Paloma puts out while Elisa won't.
Enrique has stepped up to marry Paloma to spare her from the shame of being an unwed mother because unlike Gael, Enrique truly does care for Paloma (even though they're not in love with each other). Now Ramona's discouraging Paloma from marrying Enrique?
What's the deal? Unlike the Damian/Florencia, Gael/Elisa & formerly the Braulio/Tona matches, I think Enrique & Paloma actually could fall in love with each other over time.
Enrique/Paloma is a better match than Paloma/Gael. And Enrique is figuring if he can't be with the one he loves (Florencia) he can at least be with the one he likes (Paloma).
All I can figure is now that Ramona knows Flor is not pregnant (and I cannot remember if she knows Flor likes Enrique), maybe she figures Damian will be a free man soon and will pair up with Elisa, and Gael... well,,,, Gael might settle for Paloma, after all, especially since he is the father of P's baby.
Doris, I thought I heard Braulio (in his "Four-score speech!) say that he was "free" now. Does that mean he got a divorce? Marta? Vivi? Does anyone know?
Blue: In the avances, Gabby got a gunshot right in the forehead. But then it looked like he woke up, Friday the 13th style.
I'll be bummed if Jay Gatsby, I mean Gabino, gets bumped off this soon. At least he's interesting unlike Gall, Elisa, II. Even Damian's become boring and he always used to heat up the screen.
Thanks for the awesome recap. It's the highlight of my Saturday!

Gab is muttering "Ingrid."
Then Doc T. is seen pronouncing Gab's still alive ["sigue vivo"].
Cyn, you always deliver, big time. Thanks!

Because in the lazy world of some TN writers, you decide the "perfect" couples by episode 5 of 150. Then you mess with plots, turn characters upside down ( like Ramona) and then when you get to episode 145-150 you suddenly make it all fall into place that the "perfect" couples really do belong togther and everyone smiles. Horse hockey.
I would like to argue that Ramona, as much as she can be cool at times, should know as a parent the more you sometimes tell your kids not to do something with no good reasoning why, the more tempted they are to try it. She has for far too long criped that Gael was wrong for Pal, but never spelled out really why. And maybe telling the girl the truth about her mother may have helped her choose more wisely. Just saying.
I think the PSA for this TN should be "How NOT to parent."
If Ramona really wanted to keep Paloma away from Gael, why didn't she suggest to her years ago that they could be brother and sister? I mean, neither of them knows who their father is, it's a small town... wouldn't have been that hard to plant the idea in her head and let it drive her romantic thoughts away from Gael. And it wouldn't have been impossible...Ramona doesn't know who Gael's father is, does she? And who could be sure that Ingrid was sure or was telling the truth?
I did like that Ramona told Paloma that she's been a blessing in her life, not a burden. I got the feeling Paloma has always felt rather unwanted. Paloma and Enrique could probably be pretty happy together if they moved far away from his mother.
Also just adored your riff on Lolita's secret milk-churning thoughts and that wheelbarrow/boulder engagement ring rant! You are truly an original and, not to sound like Ramona but...truly a blessing!
Thanks, crazy lady, you don't need no friggin' closed captions to write a dynamite recap.
I LOL with your image of Doc Tovat needing a wheelbarrow to carry the engagement ring—great visual there. If Paloma has a lick of sense she will marry QuiQue, and possibly lived contentedly ever after. But, as we all know, Paloma is being written and played as weaker than ever so she is not likely to do anything sensible or mature.
I don't know about Ingrid taunting Carmina the killer Orange about losing Rosendo's son. Oooweee! If anything is ever going to make Carmina take action against Ingrid, that will.
Thanks again for a fine recap, Cynderella.Hope you enjoy the Holiday Weekend.

Now, let's see here...
Well, when Princess Pea's fake baby comes to light, Dam Dumb is really the least of her worries. That just might be when Fina snaps and joins the Order of Natural Born Killers and takes her out. Accidentally, of course. Just a thought.
And speaking of said fake baby, I cannot believe that Dam hugged the heifer and didn't for even a second think something felt weird. If Flo's got some kind of state of the art fake baby prosthesis made with the finest engineering and techniques and materials, well, okay. But if it's like foam or something... even through clothes, a pillow ain't gonna feel like flesh and blood. Good grief.
I hate Agent Orange with a passion, but ING is just... I just can't even stand to look at her. Voluntarily taking a punch and effing up her face for an evil plot? And getting turned on by it? Somebody needs to put this chick down for good. (If GABINO doesn't expire, it might well be him to do that, now.)
What a shame Pal's baby isn't Enrique's. *sigh*
I really don't see the big deal with Elisa not wearing business clothes to the office, only because of the setting of this story. I haven't seen ANYONE wearing business clothes to the office in this town. In fact, they all wear the same thing to the office that they wear at home. (It's not like they're heading up Merrill Lynch in Manhattan, they're in the country, growing and shipping crops, doing small town doctoring, small town policing, etc.) She's pretty much following everybody else's lead, wearing what's in her closet, and nobody has bothered to school her about it and teach her better. (This is where Estefy would have come in handy, had she lived.) So... *shrug* Has she even been out of Ermitaville in her life? Too bad Blanca died early on... she would have been a good mentor for Elisa to look up to. Heck, I would think that, even though she's not a business owner, Lolita might have said something. But obviously not.
(I guess those boots are so much a part of Elisa's character, the only way for her to remove them would be for us to hold the writers down while she blasts them off with a few sticks of dynamite.)
Gall. Oh, Gall. Hopeless. *sigh*
GABINO. Oh, GABINO. You were soooooooo intent on that hour glass, I thought you might either French-kiss it or start making love to it. Dude, I mean! That was something else. Pencil me in, y'all, for a paint-drying/grass-growing session, if you would. (thumbs up to the actor!)
You know, the writers have really let Ramona's "abilities" muddle down into a big pile of confusion, to where you just don't know what's what. What a waste of a really valuable character.
Gawww. When Fina pulled her gun out, all I could think was, what a BIG AZZ REVOLVER. !!!
If Agent Orange doesn't try to punch the taste out of ING's mouth for that crack about her kid, I'll be surprised.
Yeah, what Anon said! Why are so many crazy heifers in one story?
Urgh, this filler has got to go. *shaking my head*
My favorite Cynderella wittyism of the recap... Braulio's Four Score and Seven Years Ago speech. ROFLMAO! Awesome.
Laters, mates. :)
I'll probably never understand the attractiveness of Gabino but I love all the comments about him.
"Heck, I would think that, even though she's not a business owner, Lolita might have said something. But obviously not."
I know Eugenia Cauduro doesn't look like someone of poor education (her modeling years left her certain sophistication that is hard to get rid off) but her character, as written, wouldn't know anything about office protocol. And anyway, it is true people dress however they want to work in the more tropical states of Mexico, little dressing ettiquete is used at all, especially in family business like the Arango's and Elisa's.
Anyway, yesterday was the finale in Mexico and I realized that I'm finally at peace with this novela. At first, it was a nice attempt to capture the original (the first 15 to 20 episodes were very close), then they tried to do their own thing for a while and changed many things and added new things while also trying to go back to certain points but it was hard to maintain the pace and at the end the writers just seemed to let themselves go and let things go crazy.
I learned that, if I was willing to accept the fact that the main characters were a bit stupid and just not all that likeable, this could actually be a fun romp. And I did enjoy it for what it was.
Jarocha
Witch Mountain: Ramona tells Paloma that she knows that Enrique did not father her baby. Ramona tells Paloma not to make a bigger mistake.
what Ramona was saying was that Paloma should not rush to marry Enrique, that things might change and not turn out as expected (referring to the marriages of Dam/Flo and Gael/Elisa of course... since she got a hint from Flo that she would not end up marrying Dam and thus maybe Dam would prevent Elisa marrying Gael... Ramona does suspect Gael is the father of Paloma's baby... so she is trying to prevent Paloma from marrying Enrique and then later on things turn out that Gael does NOT marry Elisa after all.
Casa de Arango Kitchen: Florencia wants Tonia to give her the keys to her bedroom. Tonia tells Florencia that Florencia’s a fraud. Tonia regrets lying to Braulio all of those years about him being Vincente’s father. Tonia says that she’s better than Florencia because Tonia feels guilty about her deception.
Basically Tonia was comparing her situation of many years ago with deceiving Braulio with Flo's currently deceiving Dam with Enrique... I guess Flo suspects Enrique might be FLo's child's daddy... so Tonya said at least she has come to face her mistakes and is now paying with her loneliness... she is telling Flo basically, look at how bad it went for me, don't make the same mistake. come clean with Dam.
Jarocha, I appreciate the info on family business dress in the more tropical parts of Mexico. That's where my brain was at, but it's good to actually know.
Wow, ABISMO's over down there... We should be coming down to the wire soon ourselves, then. Here's to Falling Anvils and Happy Endings!
