Por ella soy Eva #44 9/17/12

Phew! Mimi catches Onesimo in the act, before he manages to break into Eva's apartment (what a cop-out, my mom exclaims! they threatened more in the Avances)

Eva's tampering to protect Helena from Pluto is beginning to rub her the wrong way. I guess it would get pretty annoying. Eva intercepts Pluto's flower for Helena, and takes it straight to Rebeca as evidence (oooh, good strategy - if only Rebeca could stay mad long enough to lay some hurt on Pluto), then crushes it beneath her hefty tacon.

The crafty plan works, and Rebe comes to Pluto to pout and yell. He tells her to dominate her hormones and, as usual, she lets him get away with it.

Pluto meets onesimo to get the bad news about the failed snooping attempt.

ugh. Mr. Manly Mustache Chauvinist is displeased with his son's willingness to consider sissy careers, and takes him out to play pool instead of homework. Much manly advice is dispensed, and I think this is the scene in the episode for which I looked up "cavernicola," a word which so grabbed my attention ("caveman") that I forgot its entire context. Then, when they come home, Mom asks how it went, and dad flips out about the kid not having a girlfriend - why don't we just buy him a tutu?

Mimi describes the intruder to Juan, and makes a fairly humorous impression of the rather weird Onesimo! Haha, Juan complains and Mimi suggests that he's finally getting his period...

Helena goes to confront her dad about the beatings, and he seems to have a heart attack. But he totally was faking it, and goes back to the grump as soon as she leaves.

Now Plutarco gets a little bit of what he deserves, as we see him uncomfortable in the jacuzzi making excuses to Rebeca for his complete failure to perform - I've always been a matador, he whines!

OOOOOHHH PLUTO HAS A ANTONIA NIGHTMARE!!!!  She haunts him and he freaks the heck out. I'd watch that again!

Pluto makes a midnight call to Helena to "wish her goodnight." Seriously, has he no shame? But Eva, in her pajama sleepover garb, shrieks to shut down the midnight chat - "UNO QUIERE DORMIR!"

Subplot alert! Kevin is missing!

Helena's flower is smushed - it must have been some kind of accident. Pluto again aims to be helpful for Helena. Isn't he worried about getting "friend zoned?" Good god, he feels so alone, he would only like to find a woman who is special... Just like you!

I apologize for the shoddy recapping tonight... My 12 year old Mentee has just transitioned to Middle School, so for much of tonight's episode I was on the phone talking him through a homework crisis. I aim to bring next week's recap up to a higher standard!

Antonia haunts Pluto! I love it!!
She'll be impervious to his lies.
Onesimo won't be able to help him.
There is nowhere he can go to escape her.
I assume it's his imagination that has created her. If she haunts his dream, he will be afraid to sleep. And the more sleep-deprived he becomes, the more his imagination will torture him.

I knew Eduardo was faking it. It's too bad Helena wasn't standing right outside the door when he had his hissy fit afterward.

Plutarco unable to perform is hilarious. I hope this goes on for a while. I'll cheer Antonia's ghost (or his guilty conscience) any time!

The short & sweet recap was still pretty complete. Thanks for doing double duty. I hope that your mentee made out ok with the homework.

There was a lot of good stuff in this episode. I loved the reaction of Adriano to Plutarco's accusation. As I thought Eva just pulled out the sob story -- What's a widow to do if she needs a job & doesn't have the credentials? All I did was put some cream on the enchiladas (or some sort of food image) to get the job & prove that I could handle it. Adriano fell under her spell & the two of them yucked it up in front of Pluti. It was priceless.

The Antonia haunting was wonderful. It's good to see Pluti rattled & it's good to see Toni again.

Fernando's bluster is annoying and yet fun to watch. I like Marsela's no nonsense response to his rants. Poor Kevin. It's pretty funny how Univision bleeps out whatever gay reference Ferni made about his son -- but good for Marsela saying that there are worse things that could happen to their son.

Ezra- You caught a lot for also being on the phone!

I love that Pluti is being haunted by Toni. More please!

I don't understand why Elena is waiting till the weekend to take Lalo to live with her. I say do it now! She's just giving Bastardo enough time to think of something else.

Loved the scene with Adri laughing off Eva's fake resume and the two of them laughing in Pluti's face. It's cute that Adri calls Eva, Eva Maria, using her middle name.

I am so tired of Fer. He is making Marci's parenting job harder, when he should be stepping up to the plate and being a true father. I did laugh when he kept suggesting manly careers to Kevin, and all of them had moustaches.

Ezra, wonderful recap. I too loved the haunting of Pluti by Antonia. It was so funny. I hope Antonia "appears" alot. I'm really surprised Pluti didn't take Antonia's painting down already. Also loved how Andriano stuck with Eva, and didn't cave to Pluti and fire Eva. I loved how he and Eva yucked it up and Pluti was having his little hissy fit.

The Bastardo is such a jerk. I hated what he did to Silvia with the food. She spent all that time making it and then of course it isn't good enough for him. I would have dropped that tray on him and said oopsie, hand slipped, so sorry. I hope he pays big time.

Liked how Eva showed Rebeca the flower too and the damage it got from them stomping on it lol.

Guera thanks for what they bleeped out. I don't have captions so when they bleeped out I was wondering why. So Ferni thinks his son is gay? This should be interesting.

So is Patti Bebe trying to get more money out of Santi? He sure was hesitant and then she passed him the bread, lol.

Really liked how Mimi caught Onesimo. So glad he didn't get into Eva's room. And her portrayal of Onesimo to Eva/Juan too funny. She makes the best faces.

When Pati Bebe was promising Santi the yum-yums that are in store for him, she said something about that he had earned/deserved it. Yes, now I'm more sure of someone's prediction, she'll wring him dry and leave him at the altar. And now she's got him running up debt on his credit card, did I get that right?

Helena, Helena. Don't you watch the telenovelas? Don't you know that the worst thing a charater can do is explain her plans to the villain? Why make it easier for the villain to foil your plans? Notice villains always keep their plans secret, and they usually succeed to some degree, up until the final week. Watch and learn!

Paula -now I have the whole pic I was the one that predicted Pati Bebe would leave him at the altar just as he left her in the beginning of this TN. He will amass huge credit card debt. She really is out to ruin him.

Madeleine, they bleeped the reference in the caps also -- substitutes ( ) for whatever word he said. I just guessed at what the reference seemed to be. It's odd the kind of things Univision chooses to bleep. Remember in Tontas when they kept bleeping out references to dog poop?

You're right also, Madelaine, about Mimi's wonderfully mobile face. She is a good comic actress. Her impersonation of Onesimo was hilarious.

Thanks Ezra!

Much as I liked Antonia when she was alive, something tells me she's going to be even more fun as a ghost.

When Bastardo was faking a heart attack, I half-expected Helena to say "Go ahead - make my day!"

I suspect that whatever word Ferni used for "gay" was not the Spanish equivalent of gay or homosexual, but a vulger word for it, just like ramera vs. p*ta.

The interaction between Adri and Eva should be fun. Loved how they were mocking Pluto - pow! Eva will need to walk a fine line. On one hand, Juan loves Adri as a father and also it will be to Juan's advantage for Eva to be friends with Adri. OTOH Adri is feeling atracted to Eva so she needs to keep him at a distance.

Thanks Ezra and all the other recappers! I've been gone for a couple of weeks and had a lot to catch up on. A belated boo hoo for Toni, but I'm glad she's still on the show (in a way) and look forward to seeing her ruin Pluto's life. Heh heh.

Thanks, Ezra! I'm amazed you did such a great job whilst in the midst of a middle school homework crisis.

Ugh, bad dads. Bastardo is the worst. It pains me to see how Sylvia puts up with his abuse. At least Helena is beginning to lose patience, but she isn't putting her foot down hard enough or fast enough or on the right delicate parts for my liking.

Fernando, your mustache looks stupid. Maybe Kevin can be a dancer with a mustache. I like Marcela's response, but maybe she needs to take Kevin out somewhere and have a conversation with him, without dad, about what he would like to do with his life. Fernando's attitude toward Kevin is going to be really damaging if he keeps it up. I was afraid he was going to try to take him to a hooker to give him a head start on womanizing.

Speaking of strange censoring/editing, on Amorcito Corazón, whenever one of the characters calls someone a "zorra" or "perra", it isn't bleeped, but the captions say "gata" instead.

Anyone else see the humor in Kevin and Jennifer having such modern trendy names as first names, but the most traditional possible Latin American names as middle names? Kevin Jose and Jennifer Maria. I think the writers meant for us to see the ironic humor.

Ezra, mi alma, never apologize for a short snappy recap. I love 'em that way. And especially when you were helping a young person deal with middle school homework terror. I say you deserve four stars for the recap and five stars for helping out a needy soul!

I hope Antonia haunts Pluto every night so we can see her on a regular basis, and he can completely lose his manly mojo. Bring it on, Antonia!

Yay, Pluto's starting to get payback! So sorry I missed the Jacuzzi scene, but I was there for the haunting and loved it.

Someone needs to point out to Fernando that his raging insecurities make him seem less manly, not more.

Thanks, Ezra. No problems for me with your recap.
Adriano taking Eva's side over Pluto was great--especially the parting finger "gunshot" from Adriano.

I was hoping that Antonia would come and haunt Pluto and my wish came true. I want more, please.

I get it Ezra. Without fail someone calls me during the show the night I'm recapping. And this is despite that I've told everyone I'm doing this. Non-believers.

And you were right, Guera! It appears Kevin is Billy Eliot. Not only his father, but all the other men in the pool hall reacted badly when he suggested dancer as a career. I guessed that what Fernando said to Marcela was that it would be worse for Kevin to be a maricon. I was glad that it was Univision and not the show itself that bleeped out the word (I figured because of the dead space). But it made me wonder if Univision is Spanish TV for the United States, or does it also air in Latin America? Does anyone know? Because we've seen fathers worrying about their son being gay covered in comedies plenty here... Roseanne, Everybody Loves Raymond, The New Adventures of Old Christine. I don't think our sensibilities need protecting.

I don't think it was him mentioning his fear that Kevin might be gay that they felt needed censoring, it was the word choice. I've seen a lot of telenovelas wherein "gay" and men attracted to men are discussed openly, but the rude slang terms are bleeped.

Ithabill- Televisa, which produces and airs the shows in Mexico, have no problem airing all manner of scenes and words that Univision (United States based) does and censors constantly-- love scenes, visible nipple, curse words, words that refer to body functions which aren't curse words. With maricon they bleeped it because it would be like saying fag (and probably worse words that I don't know) in American English. Do the major networks allow the word fag? I'm not sure. In any case, had Fer sais homosexual or gay, they wouldn't have bleeped it out.

Thanks Julia and Vivi. I misunderstood. I agree that it's appropriate to censor the word 'fag.' I've never seen it used in American television. I didn't see the topic broached in the other two telenovelas I watched so I didn't know if it was something they would do. You know, after Showtime and HBO, there's very little left for television to show us.
