Abismo de pasión #131 9/17/12- Abysmal Passion

Recap by cathyx

Repeat: Playa del Ejido de San Crisanto -Dam and Elisa are walking down the beach hand in hand. Elisa is still pretending to be mad about her kidnapping. Dam says they need to look for a place to stay the night, and lo and behold, there is cabana for rent. As Dam settles up with the owner, Elisa decides to take a jog down the beach, hoping that Dam will chase after her. He doesnʼt disappoint. Once he catches her, she pretends to be mad saying that she hates him. They go back and forth about how much he loves her, how much she hates him. Finally to put an end to this abysmal passion, she pulls Damʼs gun out (no, thatʼs not a metaphor) and aims it at him. Everyone watching is still sitting back in their seats relaxed, because everyone, including Dam, knows that she will never shoot him, even though heʼs telling her to. She then says to him “Donʼt stop me”. (Elisa dear, heʼs not trying to, in fact heʼs telling you to put him out of his misery). Then she aims the gun to the sky and tries to fire it, but Damʼs gun has no bullets in it. (no, thatʼs not a metaphor either) Elisa is surprised that itʼs empty and yells at him for lying to her. He replies that sheʼs crazy, everyone watching this show knows you werenʼt ever going to shoot me. Itʼs the least she could do for abandoning his wife and child. Do you love Gael? Yes, she says, with all my heart. (We can see she has her fingers crossed behind her back) He carries her to the cabana.

Nuevo- Carmina is wallowing in her aloneness having a solitary dinner. She lit some a lot of candles and pours herself some a lot of wine. It starts to storm outside and that eerie aah aah music starts to play. She gets her drunk on. She finishes dinner and takes her wine with her as she puts out the candles and lights and goes to bed.

Gab shows up at the hospital and wants Doc to give him something for his massive
head ache. Doc tells him itʼs so painful because he has a bullet in his head.

Itʼs nighttime at the cabana and raining hard. Elisa is sitting in a very unladylike position at the table with Dam. I hope sheʼs wearing underwear. The lighting from the candle is not doing either of them any favors with their looks. Elisa says youʼre crazy if you think Iʼm spending the night here. Dam says that heʼs not letting her go back to Gael. Well, heʼs the best lover I ever had, yes, thatʼs right, we did it. Heʼs better than you. Dam says no one is better than him and he leaves.

Dam leaves to get Floʼs envelope from the saddle bag. (Does that poor horse have to stand there the entire night without any oats? PETA!!) Dam reads Floʼs letter.

Sabrina and Flo are sitting together at Docʼs house staring at each other. Thank goodness Enrique arrives to break the silence. He wants to know why Floʼs there and what happened to her fake baby. Sabrina gets up to leave, but not before telling Enrique that she hopes he isnʼt stupid enough to forgive her because she never will.Flo tells Enrique that she gave Dam signed divorce papers and they will be finished. At the same time that Flo is telling Enrique, Damian is reading the same thing in the letter she gave him. It all started when Alfie put my dad in jail for something he didnʼt do. Thatʼs when I decided to come back to La Ermita and figure a way to get Dad out of jail. Alfie said she would let him off if Flo agreed to marry and have Damʼs baby. But Flo found out that she is sterile. But Flo and Alfie plotted to seduce Dam and let him think that she got pregnant. She needed a baby and Sabrina was pregnant. The rest is history.

Dam finishes reading the letter and walks out into the rain. He stays out long enough to get completely soaked. This is where TN rule #28 gets invoked. That rule states that if a person goes out into the rain and gets completely soaked they will then get pneumonia later that day or the next day.

Gael is sitting alone in the house that he bought for Elisa and him. Heʼs remembering back to the time when he showed her the house and how happy they were. Gael tells her his gun is fully loaded and heʼs not afraid to fire it. (That is a metaphor) It was a memorable event because it was one of the few times when Elisa was wearing a respectable dress. Padre arrives and interrupts his flashback to try to convince him to come home. The touching ooh ooh music is playing. Gael promises to kill Damian. No padre says, you are not a killer. Heʼs like your brother. Gael says that no brother would do what he did to him.

Doc informs Gabino that only surgery will stop the pounding in his head. Thatʼs because you have a bullet in your head. Gab wants to know why didnʼt he take it out? Doc says because it is delicate surgery and we needed a specialist. Doc wants to know how it was that Ingrid shot him. Gab says that the only thing that woman cares about is money. If Doc knew who Gaels dad was, heʼd know that heʼd get a big inheritance and she wanted the money from it. Doc asks if he knows where she is? No, but since you were her lover, you should. Gab is just happy that he wasnʼt the only idiot who fell for her.

Enrique and Flo are still talking. Heʼs mad. How could she team up with Paolo and plot to steal Sabrinaʼs baby? She knows it was a bad decision but she was desperate. He doesnʼt want to hear anymore and tells her to beat it. She tells him that after the death of her father, she realized that she did awful things and she now sees the error of her ways and is truly sorry. She wants to go about setting things right. She hopes that he can be happy with Paloma and the baby. He asks what sheʼs going to do and she says she doesnʼt know. He seems to be acting like heʼs warming to her again. (Here is what I would tell Enrique if he were my friend or brother. Enrique, although she may very well be repentant, she has proven that she would do anything if she felt desperate. She plotted to steal first Keniaʼs and then you own sisterʼs baby because she felt that was her only option. So something unethical and illegal is not off the table? In the future, can you trust her to not make the more decisions if she feels desperate again? Some things are just not forgivable, and plotting to steal your sisterʼs baby should be one of them.)

Edmundo visits Begonia. He wanted to tell her that Sabrina is in town and staying at his house. Begonia tells him that Paolo is also in town. She then does her usual and tries to get him to take her back. He tells her he has to leave.

Elisa tells Dam that as soon as it stops raining and she sees a unicorn jumping over the moon, sheʼs leaving. Dam tells her not to try, heʼs going to tie her up. (her look implies that sheʼs not unhappy about that)

Camina is in bed now with her wine. She remembers back to when she killed Augusto. Some pounding noise wakes her up from her revery and she goes to investigate. Paolo meets her at her bedroom door and forces himself in. He is there to pay her back for putting him in jail. Then he rapes her. (At this point, Iʼm reminding myself that Carmina killed 2 innocent people and that she started and continued a lie that has ruined many peoples lives, including the 2 she killed. She is pure evil.) Afterward, Paolo says that he canʼt believe he ever cared about a dried up old hag like her. He insults her more, with words that I donʼt know but I understand.

Ramona tries to get Paloma to drink something (it looks like a yummy smoothy) before she leaves for work. (Iʼll take it if she doesnʼt want it) Alfie arrives to ask Paloma if she knows where Damian and Elisa are. She doesnʼt know, but tells her that they are finally far away from her for once. Then Alf asks why Ramona wanted to talk to Damian before the wedding. Ramona tells Alfie that she told Dam her patented saying that no one can escape their destiny. Not even her.

Back at the cabana, Elisa is asleep on a hammock with her hands and feet tied up. (how kinky) Dam comes in and unties her and starts to cough, (see rule #28) Heʼs brought her breakfast. Tostitos Brand® Tostachos on a plate with melted Velveta® cheese sauce for dipping. (How does anyone sleep in a hammock all night and not need an hour massage by a cabana boy who looks like Damian without a shirt on when they stand up, I donʼt know.) Elisa has a look on her face like she secretly liked being tied up all night and heads for the table to eat. Pass the dip.

Elisa walks outside to wash up and gives the male viewers what they want. She sexily splashes water on her face and neck. Then she looks into her storage unit, also known as her cleavage, and reaches in to retrieve something. Letʼs see, where is it? Hereʼs my lucky rabbitʼs foot, hereʼs my pen that writes really good, hereʼs the ticket stub from that fabulous Pitbull concert in the La Ermita park last July, a couple of pesos for an emergency phone call, and oh, here it is, my amulet. She walks away from the cabana and demonstrates to us how she could have benefited from playing sports as a child by throwing the amulet as far as she is able and it goes about 5 feet away. Dan comes out and tells Elisa to not get any ideas about taking the horse. It wonʼt let her put a saddle on it or let her ride it bareback. He sees the amulet she threw and picks it up.

Begonia comes to Docʼs house with a plate of food to lure Doc into getting back together. He says goodbye and she stays to visit Sabrina. Sabrina wants nothing to do with her.

Alf comes home and tells Antonia that she needs her pills. Padre comes to visit. Alfie is starting to realize the error of her ways, but is still mad at Flo for deceiving her. Padre points out that she did the same thing to her.

Carmina comes to visit Doc at his office. Sheʼs walking slowly, no doubt in pain. She tells him that Paolo is out of jail and that he raped her. Doc is unsympathetic. She cries and wants to know what to do about it. Tells her to go see the on call doctor. Sheʼs upset that heʼs not taking her seriously. She telling him this so he can protect Sabrina. He says that he can protect her just fine and to leave. She starts blubbering about how she needs him and he must still care about her. She starts to kiss him and he is too weak to push her away. Thatʼs when Begonia walks into the office without knocking first.

Thanks for posting Carlos. I really appreciate it. Can we clean up the format? Or is that impossible?

cathyx - Thank you for the recap and thank you Carlos for posting it. My favorite line --- He replies that sheʼs crazy, everyone watching this show knows you werenʼt
ever going to shoot me.

I was really frustrated with our protags last night. Elisa is acting like she was kidnapped, but she willingly went to Damian and beamed herself up onto that horse. And then we find out she WORE THAT AMULET on her wedding day!!! Hel-lo?!?!

Damian --- he tied her to the hammock?!??? QT*?
He was a fool, standing out in the rain in a good suit(!). WHO reads letters in the rain? I could not tell from the expressions on his face if he had a bad case of gas or was in emotional pain. Next, he'll get pneumonia, come close to dying, another hospital scene, Elisa will come 'round, blah blah blah.

I was grossed out by Elisa's sitting pose in the cabana, shooting squirrels at Damian. Talk about body language….. She sat this way in a very early episode of this telenovela and has forgotten to do so again, until last night. Yeesh...

Damian's coughing after standing out in the rain (imbecile!) had me worried, but Elisa just ignored it. Hhhmmm. . . Maybe Zepeda had a cold?

Paolo is scum. I hope he gets what he deserves. And Carmina…. doesn't she lock her doors at night???

Forgot to mention that I don't think Enrique is into Flo anymore, after last night's revelations.

does anyone have rights to add the 'abismo' label to this? until it is done we won't see it in the abismo list. i was not able to since carlos posted it.

Thank you, cathyx! I love your editorializing, especially the bit about Elisa's cleavage storage unit. It's like Mary Poppins's carpetbag!

Doc was quite cold and I was shocked he'd talk that way to a rape victim, but then I remembered it was Carmeany, and he was right, even if he was rude about it. If she wants to put Paolo back in jail, she needs to be examined by a doctor who has no interest in the case. At least that would be helpful in the real world.

Okay, I watched carefully and I still didn't see where the gun came from. Where was it before Elisa grabbed it. And just as I suspected, it wasn't loaded, which Dam of course knew. Nice theatrics, though, sweetie.

Thanks so much cathyx! Fabulous recap, with too many funny lines to quote. Like Julia, I found the cleavage bit particularly funny. I sometimes stuff my cell phone in my bra. I'm serious!

Sabine must be so tired of playing the evil woman who then gets raped and no one believes her. I remember we debated this quite a bit when Jussy in Mi Pecado got raped. Lots of us were uncomfortable with the idea of rape being used as punishment, no matter how evil the person is.

I'm going to give the Doc the benefit of the doubt and assume he just didn't believe Carmina (and why should he?), and not that he was being cold to someone who he thought was a rape victim.

cathyx,
great recap... do you do this regularly?
LOVED:
Do you love Gael? Yes, she says, with all my heart. (We can see she has her fingers crossed behind her back)
and the tn rule no. 28. of course!

i was taken aback by the Paolo/Carmina scene... as evil as this woman is, no woman deserves that ... then again, like you said, she has ruined so many lives selfishly and coldly for 15 yrs or more... she is only sowing what she planted... she had it coming one way or another, now not even DrT believes she is the 'victim' here. sort of sad in a weird way.

Elisa/Damian... what a pitiful case of 'if only they could listen to themselves'

Enrique and Flo... i still believe he loves her, but will he give her another chance? not sure.

Gael... well, i hope he cools down before Elisa and Dam come back to town... right now he is a lost soul who might end up doing things he might regret later... but i guess the scene with Padre went as good as could be expected.

I am concerned about Gael right now. He has his mother's DNA (a dose of Ingrid) which, in telenovelaland, worries me. His father wasn't known for his great judgement, either. I am fervently hoping that Gael will be more like Pad Lupe, who raised him, but the behaviors we're seeing aren't Lupe-ish at all.

cathyx, this is excellent... nicely detailed and very witty. Thanks.

I tried to tighten up the format but was only partially successful. I'm not quite sure why.

Carlos

Carlos- Thanks again. The format looks much better, at least it's easier to read.

Julia-Mary Poppin's carpetbag, yes.

Marta- the rape scene was very disturbing and when I started to feel sorry for her, I wrote down what I told myself so I wouldn't.

Doris-I hope we don't have a tragic ending to Gael.

Cathyx, thanks for this fine, better than Dam fine, recap. Clear and funny.

The thought that went through my mind when Paolo was with Carmina is that THAT is what she wanted to happen to Elisa when she sent Paolo down to the cenote to find her. Just desserts.

Doris, I have never heard the phrase "shooting squirrels". OMG! Funny!

Marta told us way back when that Elisa was sitting like that to channel the tomboyishness from the previous role of that character. Still, it is quite unattractive.

CathyX...another great one. Thanks. Loved the "this is not a metaphor" and later, this one IS. Also rule no. 28. Knew as soon as Damian stood like an idiot in the rain we would see dreadful illness as the magic wand to bring stoopid Elisa around. "Storage unit known as cleavage" is another great one....but my favorite is:

Paolo calling Carmina "names I don't know but understand". Yes. So true. Awful scene. Glad they didn't show us much but the pounding sound track made it seem dreadfully brutal anyway. Does he plan the same for poor little Sabrina?

Oh Doc, ay yi yi, you've got medical ethics, unlike most telenovela doctors, but Lordy, you sure can't hold out against some determined smooching. Have mercy man! Guess this abject scene was necessary for poor Begonia to learn she has absolutely no friends whatsoever, and no chance with her former husband either.

Finally, on Enrique, his conflicted, yearning expression once Florencia left, tells me he's still ready to fall for her charms. Much like his dad, I think he'll fold rather quickly.

Gael looked positively satanic last night. Ugh.

All over, a wretched episode, but great recap CathyX. Thanks to you and to Carlos as well for posting.

What's with the tying women up in remote shacks? Same thing happened on AC yesterday.

Hint to Dam Fool: maybe she'd stay willingly if you stopped yelling and glowering and took off that soaked shirt. Hey, do we have any reason to believe Elisa isn't shallow and easily swayed?

Rosemary-It's one thing to be sitting like that in pants, another in a wedding dress.

Julia, about the tying up...perhaps all the writers have been reading those 50 Shades books (which I would not recommend).

RlaO- Good reminder that Carmina sent Paolo to rape Elisa. That will also help me not to feel sorry for her.

cathyx - but remember, she bought it from Ramera Bridalwear.
(or re-styled it in their fashion)

RlaO - and just how do you know you would not recommend those books??? LOL I have a 70+y/o friend who has read the entire trilogy. She claims they had a real plot.

Doris, I would not recommend them IF you had anything to do, besides read, the next few days. Then you spend a week blowing through them and you feel so ashamed and sexually lacking and wishing you'd stuck with the Ramona books in Spanish.

My mom's CNAs told her she HAS to read them. I discouraged her. My mom is cool but somehow I think reading any book that discusses the virtues of butt plugs would be too much for an 81 year old.

I would think by the time a person is 81 years old, they wouldn't be fazed by much. I haven't read the books, but I have heard they are poorly written. Although probably people aren't reading them for their literary qualities.

I'm a mystery fan, myself, so in my world it's the villains who tie people up, not the heroes.

Thanks so much, Cathyx. I'm sorry the Pit gang was nodding on the job (maybe next week, ask one person the day before). But this is a terrific and funny job and I'm glad Carlos was able to come to the rescue. As others have mentioned the cleavage bit is especially and wickedly funny.

It does look like Las cosas van a caer por su propio peso. The evil ones are getting a taste of the suffering they caused for others -- Gabino with his intractable pain, Carmina, alone, brutalized and taken for a liar when for once she is telling the truth. Then there's Gael brooding over being abandoned by Elisa with not a thought for the way he treated Paloma. Even Alfonsina is suffering.

We know Paolo will have to be shot like the mad dog he is. I just hope Edmundo doesn't have to play executioner.

Judging for the avances, tonight we get to see Elisa let her hair down.

They are poorly written. For fun, you can read the titles of the comments on Amazon. Things like:
50 Shades of Vomit
You Cannot Unread This Book
Porn Version of Twilight

Lol, there are hundreds of reviews and I did not see one good one as I was skimming. And yet, I still read the series.

Tom Wolfe has a new one coming out. That's more my style.

And did Elisa get an orange tint to her hair for the boda, or maybe it is just the outside filming.

Thank you Cathyx. I enjoyed the running "this isn't a metaphor/this is a metaphor" jokes, too.

Thank you for remembering the horse. Poor guy... out in the rain all night with no oats.

I also had to remind myself that Carmina is a murderer. She's evil, but that rape scene. was rough.

PS: I forgot to mention...Gael looked pretty scary to me last night.

Yes, they brushed his hair down all sinister looking as opposed to his regular more feathered style.

And those brooding eyes a la Jack Nicholson in The Shining...

*shudder*

I must admit that I was feeling huge sympathy for Carmina as she tried to convince Doc Tovar that she had been raped, but when she pounced on him I was stunned. She certainly seemed to recover rather quickly.

I do think that she will make good on her promise to kill Paola... and soon. He doesn't seem to realize how dangerous she is.

Carlos

I HAVE to comment - I've been addicted to this website for months and can't tell you how many times I've laughed out loud at some of the comments! A couple of today's examples: when the rain stops and a unicorn jumps over the moon, I'm leaving; and of course rule #28!

I wanted to scream at Damian & Elisa last night. Would they stop raving, pouting and acting like children long enough for one of them to ask "why"? and the other one to explain? Everyone in La Hermita knows now EXCEPT Elisa! I don't understand why Damian didn't just tell her about Flo's info. Maybe that's another TN rule?

Thanks to ALL of you talented and "hysterical" Recappers for helping those of us still learning the language to be able to enjoy our shows!!!! Wonderful Job.

kl

kl - yes, it is a rule that people never communicate the knowledge they have, especially knowledge that is important. If they did, the telenovela would be over too soon. LOL

I LOL'd over Dam carrying Elisa down the beach and back to the hut, last night. I kept thinking he needed a caveman outfit and a bit Nerf bat/club.

cathyx, thank you for the wonderfully funny and detailed recap. There were too many LOL moments to list them all but luckily others have mentioned some of my favorites. I also LOVED your dig about Elisa's throwing prowess or lack thereof. I had similar thoughts to yours but your description was certainly more eloquent and enjoyable.

Carmina's rape was tough to watch even though she tried to coordinate the same fate for her niece. Paolo Landucci is toast. If Carmina doesn't kill him then she will certainly get one of her "fans" to do it for her. I just hope it's not Doc Tovar. Surely he has wised up just a little since his fling with her? I can't wait to see Begona's head explode tonight.

I think Enrique's still got it bad for Flor.

Thanks again cathy and a big thanks to Carlos for saving the day by posting the recap!

kl, thank you for commenting and welcome!

Thanks, CathyX—What a thorough recap.

I was very disappointed that the story took the turn it did with Carmina. That was dreadful. And I understand why Edmundo thought she was manipulating him again, but I hate it when women aren't believed. She had the courage to report her experience and then she gets no help. Furthermore she is correct, Paolo IS a threat to Sabrina.

CathyX, I loved that you invoked TN Rule #28, "That rule states that if a person goes out into the rain and gets completely soaked they will then get pneumonia later that day or the next day."

I LOL at your witticisms and the predictability of our beloved telenovelas.

JudyB and Sara: Didn't Gael look like Baby Beelzebub himself last night? I swear, I thought he looked like scheming evil Ingrid's baby boy for a moment, then I shook my head and said, "Nah! How is that possible?" and had a good laugh at my own expense.

Sorry to have missed your posting request, CathyX, I was asleep on the job.

Maven: Elisa lets her hair down...Hahahaha.

CathyX—thanks again for the recap.

EJ

Really awesome recap Cathyx! So funny - especially the metaphor/no metaphor part. I'm so glad you are recapping, your recaps are really a delight!

I have absolutely had it with these supposedly besotted people doing nothing but lie to each other. That whole thing about "yes, I gave myself to Gael, AS A WOMAN" -- it would have been tacky even if it were true, and on top of that it was cruel. That's it! The chamaca in the hamaca is DEAD TO ME.

And I thought Gael looked like Mickey Dolenz. Hard to take him seriously.

OH EM GEE Blue!! you are killing me!! too funny!!

yes i am old enough to know who Mickey Dolenz is...

OMG Blue! where did you get that picture?? LOL!!

Blue - Too funny!!! and, sadly, I, too, am old enough to know who Mickey Dolenz is. Waaaaah.
