Refugio Para el Amor #119 Mon 9/24/12 Rod Channels James Brown and Lorenzo Channels Billy Joel; Roselena is Crazy…Like a Fox*

*crazy like a fox: The individual referred to is not crazy at all, rather cunning (like a fox). Used when one appears to be 'crazy', but is acting with a hidden motive, in a cunning way.

Uptown Girl (By Billy Joel)
Uptown girl
She's been living in her uptown world
I bet she's never had a backstreet guy
I bet her momma never told her why

I'm gonna try for an uptown girl
She's been living in her white bread world
As long as anyone with hot blood can
And now she's looking for a downtown man
That's what I am…
I'm in love with an uptown girl
You know I've seen her in her uptown world
She's getting tired of her high class toys
And all her presents from her uptown boys
She's got a choice…
------

The Old:
Rod can’t accept the fact that he’s lost Luci forever and that she might move on…with someone else.
Luci has just had her creepy doll head induced nightmare, where two of the Blonde Bruja Bitches cackle at her and tell her that her baby is DEAD! Luci wakes and promises her baby that nothing will happen to him/her.

The New:
The next morning, the barrio gang is all eating breakfast at Estelita’s, when Luci and Namurachi arrive for coffee. They are welcomed with open arms. Luci asks Ofelia how it’s going at the new job—long hours, lots of work, and low pay. She tells Ofelia that Pato needs a secretary and it might be a good fit for her. Yay!  Everyone clears out to go about their business. Lorenzo invites Ariche and Paz to tag along to the Taco Corner, but Paz hesitates because she wants to stay and support Magda. Magda forces her to go, and Estelita promises to keep Magda company. After everyone leaves, Luci asks Magda how she and Vio are doing. She sends her love to Vio and says she will see her after work. Magda thanks Luci, but Luci says no thanks are needed. They are her FAMILY.

At the TL breakfast table, Max is the first to escape, and takes Aldo with him. “Adios good looking!”, are Aldo’s parting words to his mother, making her smile and prompting Hannah to say she wants a son like Aldo one day. (Your recapper would be horrified by that thought, if it didn’t amuse me so much to see Rosa’s feathers ruffled.) “You don’t know what you’re saying Hannah!” Hannah says she wants a son who is as crazy and affectionate, and who loves her as much as Aldo loves her aunt. Frigida, who NEVER misses an opportunity to ruffle Rosa’s feathers, asks how many people she should prepare the lunch table for, since they always prepare for a bunch of people, and then only one or two show up. Ha!

Since Rosa wants the whole family to dine together, should Frigida also set a place for Gala and Julie? Pato, who does not share Luci’s generous view of who is counted as family, says those two are NOT part of the family. “They’re Rodrigo’s family, not ours.”  Frigida points out that they set a place for Connie’s novio Oscar. Hannah now chimes in. “He IS family.” Rosa tells them all to shut it. Pato says to count him out for lunch-- he’s eating at the office and has lots of work with Luci. This ruffles a few more of Rosa’s feathers. She sarcastically mocks Luci’s businesswoman skills and her worldliness. Pato informs her that Luci is a very intelligent woman, then excuses himself from his mother’s toxic presence. Hannah escapes too. Connie, who never seems to take the opportunity to abandon her sister to her sinking crazy ship, stays to hear more of her rants. Rosa can’t believe that one day Luci will be owner of EVERYTHING. Connie corrects her. Luci is the owner of half of the corporation—owner AND partner, whether Rosa likes it or not. Rosa’s crazy eyes tell us she does NOT like it.

There is no breakfast being served in Casa Rod-Gala. Are we surprised? Instead, Rod is rushing out the door and trying to avoid the hefty serving of nagging and bitter recrimination that Gala is dishing out. She tells him she and Julie are going shopping for more expensive baby crap and invites him along. He uses the excuse of work to get out of it. Well then, they can meet up later at his office. (All the better to continue stalking Luci!) Rod says he’ll call her and shuts the door in her face while she’s still making fake pleasantries. Gala says her daily variation on the theme of “I hate you Rodrigo Torreslanda.” This time she says she doesn’t know how much longer she can put up with his snubs/scorn (desprecio).

Magda has gone back up to Vio’s place to fix her breakfast and pamper her. Vio has good enough sense to appreciate having her mom around to wait on her hand and foot. And she’s enjoying her company too. Magda wants Vio to come spend some days in Het Het, but doesn’t want Vio to run into Aquiles and his unpleasant self either. Vio says she doesn’t want to question Magda about why she kept her secret, and she doesn’t want to hurt her by making her remember the past. Magda says the years have taken away the pain, and now even the hate. Now that she’s told Vio the truth, she feels at peace with Vio and with herself. Vio wonders if Aquiles will change his attitude toward Magda. “That miserable wretched old man, will always be a miserable wretch. If he changes, it will be for the worst.”

In Het Het, that miserable old wretch is remembering the confrontation with Magda and Vio, and is determined to remain firmly in denial. “If I say she isn’t my daughter, then she isn’t!”

Pato is laying the cultural/income generation project out for everyone in the TL board room. Luci is sitting directly across from him and Rod, and they are both smiling her way. She is drawn magnetically to Rod’s gaze and the two share their own private moment as Namurachi and Pato share details of the project. Oscar will bring in the Finance department to help them better market the artisan goods. Namurachi wants to go back North right away to get going on plans for increasing production. Pato mentions that they will have to find a workshop (taller) for the women to do the work. Luci begins to say they have already thought about it, but Rod eagerly jumps in before she can complete her sentence. He brought in the company architect, Cardenas, to help them renovate any space they want to use. Cardenas can accompany them North. Rod then offers up his plane to take the whole gang back to Het Het, and bring them back whenever they want. CL lets him know he’s got that covered. What Rod is most concerned about is whether Luci is staying in D.F. Luci stammers a bit, but confirms that she will indeed be in D.F. for a few more days to take care of some matters with CL. But she’ll go back after that. She looks back and forth between the wistful gaze of Pato, and the almost leering goofy smile of Rod.

In her office, Gala admits to Julie that she’s getting more tired each day of this situation. She wants to forget about Rod, the TLs, and go running for the door. (Do it! And while you’re at it, run right into the path of a Mac truck.) “I can’t stand Rod! And it’s all that domestica’s fault.”  Julie counsels patience, and then wonders if there’s been any reaction yet from their creepy doll’s head trick. Gala is disappointed to report there has been no reaction. If so, Rod would have barked at her about it. Of course, the first thing Luci would have done is go running, crying to his arms. Julie says she needs to at least keep going to Luci’s OBGyn to get all the info they can about Luci’s baby. “We’ll let Luci’s baby develop, and then when the moment comes…”  *shudder*

Max has finally made it to see Rosa’s doctor. “You’re wife’s problem is neither cardiological nor neurological. (No sh!t Sherlock!) All of her tests came back very good. Therefore, I think it’s best that she sees a PSYCHIATRIST.” The doctor believes some talk therapy will do Rosa good-- to relieve her anxieties and worries. And if the psychiatrist thinks it’s needed, she can even be medicated. (Yes, please!) The doc already has a recommendation—Doctora Hauser. “Anything I can do so that my wife gets better, I’ll do.”  The doc says Rosa will need all the love and commitment (compromiso) she has had from him all these years of marriage. (Ha! If this doctor only knew the half of it!) Max looks thoughtful.

Paz and Ariche look on with pride as Lorenzo and Fabian sell their tacos. Lor talks about planning for the future—growing the biz and saving (ahorrar) to get his own place. Ariche points out that they already have a place—the little place Estelita lets them sleep in near the roof of the vecinidad. The boys explain that this isn’t really a true home. Ariche is glad to hear it, because he doesn’t like it much! It’s not ugly, but it’s very small. Lor is already thinking about where he’ll live with his future wife and kids. Fabian is nowhere near thinking about marriage. But Lor starts getting starry eyed thinking about his chula. Paz looks worried.

His Chula is currently trying to rid herself of a 115 pound (if even that) nuisance, named Boris. Lula is pleading Boris’ case to Hannah, when he pops up and begs her to stop ignoring him. (Stay strong Hannah!) He lists the many ways she has been ignoring and snubbing him. He says he just wants to talk and she finally gives in and sets a time to see him tomorrow. Lula can’t believe she’s going to dump Boris, for a taquero. (Shut up Lula!) When Hannah leaves, Lula shows her true colors. “I told you Hannah. Boris was MINE from the beginning.”

Max returns home and interrupts Rosa’s reading. I guess it’s not just a thing she pretends to do before bed. He tells her the doctor says she needs to see another “specialist.”  He hands her the psychiatrist’s card.
R: A psychiatrist?!!! I am not crazy Maximino! What do you want to do? Lock me up in an asylum? (Yes! Yes!) Is that what’s next?!
M: *sigh*

In the board room, Rod and Luci are speaking with Cardenas. Luci tells them that Magda’s house will likely be the office/workshop, and now Magda will finally live with them as they wanted. But she still wants to speak with Magda first. When the architect leaves, Rod takes the opportunity to sidle up next to Luci and get all up in her personal space. He starts speaking in a low, sexy whisper so that no one else in the board room will hear.  “Luciana, please. Let me be a part of your project. Let me be a witness (testigo) to your success. You’re going to succeed, I’m sure. And I want to be there when that happens.” She looks in his eyes, and he looks like he’s going for a kiss-- right there in the board room! Luci turns away and looks down, blushing.

Back in Casa TL, Max is telling Rosa La Loca not to be, well…crazy.
M: No one wants to send you to the nut house. (I do! I do!) This is a recommendation from Dr. Barrela.
R: Well, I don’t know why that inept Dr. Barrela wants to send me to a psychiatrist!
M: Please Roselena. You’re an intelligent person. People who see psychiatrists, don’t just go because they’re crazy.
R: No??? Then, why do they do it?!
M: Because there are ailments/illnesses (padecimientos) of the brain (cerebro) that are out of the control of neurologists and can only be handled with the help of a psychiatrist.

Back in the board room, Rod is still in the corner with Luci whispering sweet nothings in the guise of work. Luci thanks him for his offer, but Pato and CL are already on it. “But I’m not. I’m also a part of the board of directors. Please let me participate in your project.”

Connie enters Rosa's and Max's bedroom and asks what’s happening. “Your brother-in-law wants to send me to a psychiatrist because he thinks I’m CRAZY!” Max remains calm and tells her the appointment is that afternoon. (Wow! He works fast!) Rosa tells him the only way he can help her is by ending his sinful, lustful ways, and to take refuge in God’s punishment and put himself at God’s mercy so that He can save his soul. (I think it sounds more fun for Rosa to go see a shrink, and I’m sure Max agrees.)

Max appeals to Connie to talk to sense into her sister, then leaves. “How do you think you will win back the trust of your children if you don’t go to see the doctor?” “Do you think I’m crazy and need to see a psychiatrist?!!” (Yes! Yes, we do!) Connie plays along and says that Rosa should just see all the recommended specialists to find out what’s wrong, and to show her children she’s willing to change. She gives Rosa the doc’s card and tells her to think about it. Left alone, Rosa sees the benefit in her kids thinking that she’s really repentant and wants to get cured. “This is the only way I’ll be able to get close to Luciana…and her child.” *shudder*

Magda and Estelita share a coffee. Magda’s eager to get back to Het Het, but Estelita wants them to stay longer. Magda says she has to confront Aquiles once and for all. She’s not afraid of him. In the city she feels out of place and unprotected. She would have left the same night she confronted Aquiles, if she had her way. But, she wanted to be with Vio after what happened, and Paz needed more time to see her kids whom she has really missed. Estelita wonders if now that Aquiles knows Vio is his child, he’ll help them economically.
M: Estelita, you can’t imagine how miserly that man is.
E: Well, that was before he knew he had a daughter. But now that he knows, he might be generous with her, don’t you think?
M: No Estelita, I don’t think so. In any case, Aquiles hasn’t accepted that Violeta is his daughter. He doesn’t believe me. You don’t know what that man is capable of.

In his general supplies store, Aquiles, that miserable, miserly, mean, stingy, despicable,  wretched so-and-so (all meanings of ‘miserable’ which Magda has called him a few times this episode), is chewing out his new assistant for being dumber than Procopio. The beans are filled with weevils! (gorgojos) Copio runs in wanting to know how things went with the novia in the capital, and instead gets an ear full of grief and insults.

Polo is out of jail, and he and Serena are telling Vio and Ofelia about their ordeal when Inferno was busted by the police. Serena says all the waitresses got out of there without being detained. Ivan’s still in jail, Lastra disappeared, and they’ve all been left without jobs. They tease about Ofelia getting in touch with Lastra. She tells them not to even joke about that, then recommends that Polo take the job opening clearing tables at her cafeteria. It’s a small place and the tips aren’t as good as Inferno, but it’s work. Polo already is hooked up with a customer who has a club and can get him a bartender job. Vio thinks this all happened for a reason. “No hay mal que por bien no venga.” (Every cloud has a silver lining/good things come from bad.) She’s glad none of them will return to that place again. (And the audience is very grateful to never have to see that cheesy set again.) Polo wonders why Vio is so concerned when she’s getting married soon. Vio informs them she is not getting married. She doesn’t want to talk about Don Aquiles again or hear his name.  She’s going to go home with her mom for a little while. “I feel lost. I don’t know what to do.”

Copio is trying to find out what happened with the city novia. Aquiles informs him that she turned out to be Violeta, Magda’s girl. Copio is shocked.
P: What were you thinking? She could be your daughter!
A: That’s the problem! It appears that she IS. According to that big mouthed Magdalena, that girl, Violeta, is my daughter.
P:  *open-mouthed/knock me over to the chair impactado and a whistle*

Paz and the Taco Boys pack up the baskets and bikes to head home. Paz is more at ease now, seeing how well they are doing. Lorenzo talks about their plans for growth and CL’s offer to invest in a few more bikes to help them expand. Lor intends to put his head/mind to (echarle coco) improving the business. Hannah arrives and gets out of the car. She and Lor make their usual googly eyes at each other and Lor introduces Paz to Hannah. Hannah immediately gives Paz an embrace and a kiss on the cheek, and introduces herself with her full name, “Hannah Torreslanda at your service.”  Paz is obviously shocked and worried to hear the name and to learn she’s Rod and Pato’s sister-- and to see that Lor can’t take his eyes off her.

In the office, Rod catches Luci as she and Namurachi head to lunch, and begs her to have lunch with him…and Namurachi too, of course. He won’t let Luci back out, and Namurachi happily invites him to join them for lunch. Rod smiles in satisfaction.

Near the elevators, Aldo makes plans to see Vicky later and gloms on to Max as soon as he exits the elevator. He wants to talk to him about business. “Look Aldo. I have a million things to think about before your business ventures.”  Aldo reminds him that they also need to talk about Inferno. Max tells him they’ll talk later and he wants him to be at the house for lunch. Aldo calls Vicky back to cancel their lunch plans, since his uncle demands that he be present. Vicky is disappointed by both the fact that Aldo is cancelling on her, and that her Osito is having lunch with Rosa. Aldo reminds Vicky that Rosa is his WIFE.

The Ice Queen, is currently playing the tragic queen and has taken to her bed to be served tea by Mati, and to bitch some more about the psychiatrist. “It’s for your own good, mi niña.”
R: Nana, you’ve known me since I was a little girl. Do you think I’m losing my mind? (Yes! Yes, we do!)
M:  *pause and a sigh*
R: Tell me the truth. You’re the only person who can’t deceive me.
M: Why are you asking ME this Roselena?
R: I told you. Because you are incapable of deceiving me.
M: Of course you aren’t crazy Roselena. But your obsession of wanting to get your way (salir con la suya) could cause you much harm.
Mati walks out of the room and Rosa defiantly takes a sip of tea.

Paz sits Lorenzo down for a serious talk alone when they get to Estelita’s. “What do you have going with Miss Hannah? Don’t tell me you’re in love with her Lorenzo. Look what happened to your sister because she fell in love with a TL!” Guilty puppy look from Lorenzo.

Meanwhile, Hannah’s looking more love-struck than ever in her bedroom, and thinking about how pretty Lorenzo’s mother is. “She has lovely eyes, like Lorenzo’s.” Mati comes in to interrupt her daydreams. She asks Mati, if she were rich, could she fall in love with a person from a lower class? Mati asks if this is Hannah’s situation, but then says she would. Everyone at the top started from below at some point.
M: Lots of the wealthiest people started out poor, like your father.
H: But my father was never poor.
M: No Hannah. When your father started out with his first business, he had to partner with Lic. Linares because Don Max didn’t have enough money to found a business, like his airline company.
H: Then, the one who had money was Lic. Linares?
M: Yes. Lic. Linares already had his fortune. Your father was just starting to try to make his.
H: So, Luci’s father was the one who gave my papa an opportunity. Then I don’t understand how my father could say he had committed fraud, when the money was Lic. Linares’? Why would he defraud himself? I don’t understand.
M: I don’t know either. Wash your hands and come eat.
Mati get nervous, changes the subject, and leaves. Hannah looks like there are still plenty of questions circling her head.

Hannah’s Romeo is facing questions from his mama about his feelings for her. He admits he likes Hannah, a LOT. “Have you learned nothing from what happened to your sister?” Lor doesn’t think there’s a need to worry, because Hannah will never go slumming and date him. Cut to Hannah in her room thinking of nothing but Lorenzo, and the time she caught him with his shirt off…

At the company rooftop restaurant, Luci and Namurachi have ordered drinks and Namu dares to ask a personal question. When they offered Luci the grant (to make her pottery), Luci was super happy about it since she was apparently poor and jobless at the time. But now she sees that Luci is a very important woman with a big business. She doesn’t get it. Luci says it’s a long story, but the short of it is that, at the time she didn’t know CL was her father. Luci wants to return the grant, but Namu refuses. Luci won it fair and square through her talent and work. Luci thinks other women need it more than she. Namu once again refuses and Luci says they’ll talk about it later. Namu leaves to wash her hands, just as Rod arrives to join them for lunch. Rod says that Pato and CL will be joining them soon, then gives Luci the same hungry look he gave her in the board room.

In Dr. Hauser’s reception area, Max is giving Rosa a pep talk and telling her to calm down as she slathers on the hand sanitizer. Rosa hisses that she’s only doing this to recuperate her family, but it’s HIS help that she needs. “Infidelity is an epidemic that sickens men!” (Oh man! It looks like she’s using the whole bottle of sanitizer.)  The secretary calls her in to see the doctor. The doctor is a fairly well known actress who we last saw as the abused mother in LFDD. Rosa refuses to shake her hand, and immediately lets the doc know she does not believe she needs to be there. “I’m not crazy! Although my husband insists (empeñar) otherwise. I assure you I’m more sane than you are!”

Rod is continuing his efforts to woo his ex-wife, despite having another wife. He’s ordered a bottle of wine, although he knows she can’t drink, to make a symbolic toast. He thanks her for allowing him to accompany her. She reminds him this is nothing more than a business lunch—nothing special.
R: Everything to do with you is special Luciana.
L: Rodrigo.
R: I’m sorry. I can’t help it. It’s obvious that my whole outlook (panorama) changes when I’m with you. I can’t avoid it. I love you. That’s why I beg that you don’t leave. Please don’t go to San Francisco el Alto. Stay here. Come to the office every day.
L: No. No, I can’t. You know that I don't feel comfortable here. I’m better off in my town. I’m tranquil there.
R: Who’s bothering you here?
L: Rodrigo…
R: I love you. I love you and I’ve never stopped.
L: Please, don’t…
R: Does it bother you that I tell you that?
L: Yes Rodrigo!
R: Well, I’m sorry. But when I’m by your side I can’t avoid it. In front of everyone else I have to remain silent. That’s why I’m telling you. I love you. I love you!

Like a bucket of arctic water, in swoops the Ice Princess herself, Gala. “Hello my love!” (Little Rod shrinks.)  “I called, and your secretary told me you’ve been busy in a meeting all day. I can see that you’ve been very busy.  And this one (Luci) has no respect for anyone! But aren’t you ashamed to be exhibiting yourselves here in front of the whole company?!” Rod grabs her arm and demands she calm down before she makes a scene. (Too late dude.)

Gala is all teeth and fury. “Shut me up! I dare you!” Luci decides to diffuse the situation by taking herself out of it, but Rod tells her to stay. “The one who’s going is Gala!” Ruh-roh!

Avances: Luci gets in Gala’s face to tell her off. Rod gets between them and tells Gala he will defend Luci against anyone (her included). Gala is beyond pissed. Pato tells Luci that he needs her. Pato confronts Rod about his stalker behavior towards Luci, and tells him Luci is no longer a part of his life. “But she’s part of yours?! Do you want (querer) her for yourself?!” “Yes, I love (querer) Luciana.”

Comments:
Rod is up to his old stalking ways again! This is exactly the same crap he pulled way back when he was first engaged to Gala and Luci was working in his house as a maid. Up in her personal space all the time, trying to kiss her, speaking words of love, and all the while, nowhere close to breaking things off with Gala. Both Luci and Gala should just turn around and bash that wine bottle over his head.

I am not liking that Gala and Julie, and Rosa separately have evil plans in store for Luci's baby. Blech! Luci needs to get back to Het Het.

Vivi- so loved this wonderful recap. Loved the song lyrics and the definition. Also loved your asides, lol. Yes, we do want that loca in a manicomio, jus' sayin'.

I don't like that all three brujas have plans for Luci's bebe, either. I shiver everytime they talk about it.

Ah, I like the Rod and Luci dynamic. I know he is stalking her, but she seems to be receptive, but fights hard not to be. They are both so in love, leave them alone long enough, and I think both would throw caution to the winds. I noticed how she leaned into him at lunch, and fought hard to right herself, same in the boardroom. They know they were meant for each other, I just wish Rod hadn't been such an estupido when the brujas tried to smear her, he could have avoided this mess, but then we wouldn't have this fab TN.

Poor Hanna and Lorenzo. I feel bad for them. I really think that Hanna should just dump Boris, forgt about talking to him. He is a waste of space, can't stand him after what he did to Lorenzo.

So now all the poor employees of Inferno are out of a job. I wonder what Vio will end up doing? It's good that Ofelia has a chance at a job at Torreslanda and Polo is getting another job at an antro. I am kinda glad Vio is going home with her Mama, they can protect each other from Don A, who is in denial. I hope he wakes up and changes and does something nice for Magda and Vio. He will have to process this though.

Gagme and Julie are on my last nerve. Julie and her constant planning of what to do. It's so annoying. I am glad both their plans haven't worked so far. They are truly the estupidas and I am glad they are. Gagme causing that scene especially, noone likes her, she just doesn't get it.

Rosa, loved your asides about her, lol. Luci will never feel close to Rosa ever. I don't know how Rosa thinks she will accomplish this, since Luci so has her number. Mati the enabler, if I had been Mati I would have told her flat out, of course you are crazy now let that psychiatrist help you! I am sure Rosa exhibited these signs before. So now it's Max's fault. It's too funny how Rosa always blames someone else for all her problems when she is the one that caused them in the first place. I could go on and on about that, lol. Maybe the psychiatrist will put her in the manicomio, oh happy day for the Torreslanda family!

Thanks Mads. I'm not denying the chemistry. But first thing's first. He needs to get rid of the wife first. That's part of the reason why Gala is so darned crazy now, because he waited till the last minute, to dump her at the altar in front of everyone. Had he manned up as soon as he started feeling attracted to Luci and dumped Gala, then wooed Luci in the correct way, a lot of this mess would have been avoided. Now he's doing the same thing again. It's not fair to Luci. Just like the last time, he knows exactly how she feels about him and he's taking advantage of it and toying with her emotions. Note to Rod:
Step 1: Tell Gala how you feel about her.
Step 2:Move out or kick Gala out.
Step 3: Get a quikie divorce and establish child support payments.
Step 4: Tell Luci how you feel about her and woo her back.
Step 5: Live happily ever after.

Vivi- I like your reasoning too. I am also conflicted about Pato. He is so in love with Luci, but unlike Rod doesn't push himself on Luci. But Luci seems to be a one man woman so I don't even know if Pato will stand a chance with her. It's sad really. I like your steps for Rod too. I know Rod has told Gagme already, how he feels about her, but she swore she would never let him go this time. The more time he spends with Luci the more time Gagme will do something to put a stop to it with the help of her bruja cohorts.

LOVED LOVED the music reference, Vivi! my fav is Uptown Girl... Billy Joel at his best (mid 70s to mid 80s was his best time)
episode seemed to be a set up episode for the next couple eps... we will see what happens with Lore/ Hanah and Pato/Rod/Luci... Getting really tired of the every-morning-torture scenes at Rod/Gala's.

Good work.

Roselena's blaming everyone else is classic narcissistic behavior. She can't face her own faults so she assigns them to others. Gala and Julie are the same way. Mati is Roselena's worst enabler and needs a serious wake-up call.

So the Dumbass has now reverted to drooling stalker mode. I couldn't believe him pushing himself right in Luci's face in the boardroom with other people there. He has no shame and I do wish she wouldn't send him those hidden signals that encourage him. She could have gotten up from the table and moved away and hopefully he'd get the message. I also hate the fact that he keep pushing to be part of her project. He was whining like a five year old, truly cringe inducing. He needs to learn to give her space and maybe Pato will call him on it tomorrow and make him see sense.

It's odd to me to see Gala and julie plotting and Rosa plotting about Luci's poor baby but they don't seem to be working together so I'm guessing there will be a colossal failure. They really are cornering the market on evil. Interesting too how Gagme automatically assumes Luci will run to Rod to complain. Obviously that is what she would do but luci is made of stronger stuff.

So Mati ONCE AGAIN enables Rosa and tells her she isn't crazy. Naturally she is the one person Rosa trusts to tell her the truth (as if) since she always hears what she wants to hear.

It's so weird i always get indigestion during meals at the TL's and the food at the barrio gangs place always makes me hungry.

Poor Boris be dumped and grabbed at the same time and being totally clueless. He is going to turn out to be just another moron being dragged around by the nose by Lula the Snob. Meanwhile Jana with have the tacquero and a boat load of happiness.

Jana has a head on her shoulders like Pato and is beginning to question the fraud thing. Somehow I think that if and when the truth about Max's culpability come out they won't be surprised but Rod the Dimwit will.

I wondered if Don A would admit the DF chica was Magda's daughter. I was not surprised when he denied she was his but was surprised when he told Copio. I actually thought he would faint instead of just fall on the chair. I can't wait to see what happens if the Gossip Girls get wind of that story. They'll be living on it for years.

Vivi, this was such an enjoyable read--you got all the looks, the moves, the inner thoughts and mopey, moony behavior down perfectly.

Note to Rod:
DIVORCIO EXPRESS
DIVORCIO EXPRESS
DIVORICO EXPRESS (Third time a charm, maybe?)

To give him his due, he *has* told Gala every chance he could get a word in edgewise that they were married under a contract so the child would have a name, not so they would live as husband and wife. Gala ignores this every time he brings it up.

Of course he was suckered in by Gala being oh so understanding about being knocked up. She really didn't want anything from him. She let Rosa and daddy Max talk him into the marriage that she thinks was due her.

I'm not sure what Gala is really doing in this marriage, other than keep Rod and Luci apart and recapture a certain social status among her peers. I can't think the latter is that important to her, being a *divorced* woman (there's still a secret lurking there).

But, if she hates him so much, she's obviously not enjoying being married to Rod, and told Julie as much tonight, wanting to forget the whole thing. Here again, it is a mama who's urging her to stay in the game.
Anita

Great recap Vivi. I too loved your running commentary especially the yes, yes we do on placing Rosa in various mental facilities.

I'm hopeful that Pato can start to transfer his feelings for Luci to Ofelia. He must have happiness and love.

Decie Girl - you crack me up with your assessment of Rod. ITA w/you and Vivi about Rod's inappropriate stalking behavior. It shows he has not grown up and does not want to be legitimate.

Anita - if only Rod would take your divorce express advice.

Loved your recap, Vivi; especialmente about Rosa-her use of hand sanitizer. I'm sorry but a Psychiatrist can't fix plain old ornery-ness.

I am really struggling, I have moved to the stage where I am trying to watch it with only Spanish, and much of the time I just listen. So Rod (repeatedly) kept telling Luci, dejame, about her project. I kept thinking he was telling her to leave the project. Thanks for clearing up that he meant let him be in the project.

He's like a little kid, that won't take no for an answer, very immature. Maybe that's why Luci calls him her "big boy."

You're Billy Joel reference has me humming this morning Vivi. Little pep to start the day! (Of course, by 3:00 pm when I can't get it out of my head, that may be a different story.)Love your little " (No sh!t Sherlock!) " type comments thruout.

I'm with you, Dumbass is being , well like Boris. That goofy staring and leering, the constant showing up, for cripes sake, act like an adult!! Sure Luce loves the guy, but he's MARRIED. Little insulting, I think, that he feels he can still whisper the sweet nothings while hitched to someone else, no matter what. Again, the TN double-standard. I was waiting for him to start with "be with me, blah blah" as if that's ok, again while hitched to someone else. All in the name of "love". Horse hockey. As Anita so brilliantly pointed out DIVORCE EXPRESS.

Rosa, methinks thou doest protest too much. I guess she figures the more she says she's not nuts, the more it will be true. Wonder if Rosa met her match with the psychiatrist. She looks rather no-nonsense. Are we being set up for a redemption for her?

I love GT's attitude that people can just leave work whenever, do a little shopping, etc. I guess she figures when you're the owning family not important if the employees see you pulling your weight...or heavens be, actually do some work. Apparently, she must have one great assistant or managing editor, cos she sure doesn't spend much time at the magazine, and that business can pull some nasty long hours. And why the hey does Champagne Queen keep showing up. She on the payroll? I want a job like that.

I thought Rod had an idea how Pato felt? Guess I was wrong, so now he has to panic that since Pato is free and he's not, that Luce will fall for his bro. Yeah, I'm all for it...sorry I digress. But that whole group needs to get the hell of out dodge and get back to Het Het, CL and Pato included.

Vivi, you brought sunshine and light into our lives with this marvelous recap. Fun, insightful, detailed. It was sensational! Your conversation translations are so appreciated!

So many excellent comments already.

"...trying to avoid the hefty serving of nagging and bitter recrimination", and "Rod is continuing his efforts to woo his ex-wife, despite having another wife" were among my favorite lines.

I am usually not an envious person but last night I was wishing I were in Zuria's place during that board room scene. Sizzling - hungry, lustful looks from Rod and yearning, loving stares from Pato. Oh my...

Pool Paz. Another child lost to the TL alure...

Karen, I had mentioned Ofelia some time ago for Pato and I am hoping for sparks there. I don't believe they have met yet though, am I wrong?

Madelaine, ITA "leave them alone long enough and I thinnk both would throw caution to the wind". Exactly!

Thanks again Vivi!

Diana

Great recap!

Rod es todavía una cabeza caliente y muerto para mí. You don't get all smarmy on a female major partner in a meeting period. Let alone when you are married. This guy is a putz!

Yes, I know it is a TN but that this wasn't seen by others is ludicrous. The Rod character has way to many character flaws for me.

Rod and Luci appeared on Despierta America and they really looked good together because they were both relaxed. Rod's character is this TN is very stiff, on purpose or not.

Had it been Rod in Pato's place on that cliff, this would have been a much better TN. Oh, wait a minute, that was La Que No Podia Amar.

Mads- I agree that Pato doesn’t stand a chance with Luci. I don’t think that Luci would ever give him false hope either. She’s very clear about her own feelings, and always has been. Unlike other heroines who toy with galan #2 and give him false hope and try to convince themselves they can feel something for the poor guy. (I’m looking at you Elisa in Abismo!) We need another love interest for him. Maybe Ofelia?

Marta- Glad you like the song selection. I think the audience is almost as sick of the every-morning-torture scenes at Rod-Gala’s as Rod is!

Why he keeps going back for more is beyond me. It seems clear to me that Gala has broken their contract. She keeps demanding more than he promised, and she refuses to let him live in peace. So he should break the contract and divorce her and be done with it.

Urban- The villains always seem to play the blame game, don’t they? The only one I have seen accept any blame for (some) things is Max. He’s admitted his role in Rod marrying Gala and Rosa’s growing sick jealousy. But anything having to do with Claudio, he refuses to take blame for. CL is his blind spot. Rosa has MANY blind spots—her kids, husband, sister, Aurora, Luci…

Decie Girl- I hope you’re right that by plotting separately, the three Blonde Bruja Bitches will fail in their plans to harm Luci’s baby. It’s so creepy how the three of them get so much pleasure thinking about harming an innocent child.
I agree that Hannah and Pato, unlike Rod, seem to ask questions and come to logical conclusions (or at least have more questions) about their dad’s behavior towards CL. It makes no sense. Not once has Rod questioned this.
I was also surprised that Aquiles opened up to Copio. But the man really has no one else to confide in. Hopefully, Copio can talk some sense into him about the way he should treat Vio and Magda.

Anita- ITA with your advice to Rod. You know how I feel about it! As for Gala, she is the poster girl for why hate and revenge are futile. You only end up harming yourself. Sure, she’s torturing Rod and keeping him and Luci apart, but at what cost to herself? Every time her brain starts to work and she questions this, there’s Julie to bring her right back into hate and revenge more. Had it not been for Julie, I think Gala would have walked away long ago (after being dumped at the altar) with her dignity intact. But now she keeps getting in deeper.

Karen- It’s amazing to me that no one told Rosa to her face that a manicomio might just be the right place for her. Not even Max. This woman has no one in her life who will just tell her the God’s honest truth about herself. No wonder she gets to live in this little fantasy land where she can get her own way all the time (as Mati says).

Emarie- LOL! “a Psychiatrist can't fix plain old ornery-ness” So true! Good for you to move from the subtitles to just listening. I could never make my captions work anyway, so I’m always relying on just my listening skills. Sometimes I get it wrong, but you’ll see how much you pick up and understand from context clues.

Daisynjay- Uptown Girl is a pretty fun earworm to have all day. At least it’s upbeat. I am also hoping that Dr. Hauser sees right through Rosa and doesn’t take her crap. But redemption? Hmmm…I’m not betting on that yet. I do think Rod has an idea about Pato’s feelings for Luci, but that’s different than getting confirmation, as he appears to do tonight. Hope it doesn’t ruin their relationship, because they have a great, supportive relationship.

Diana- You and Mads are our romantics. You keep rooting for your Mushashon as he woos Luci, but please whisper in his ear (in between the sweet nothings) that he needs to get a divorce. Then, he can throw caution to the wind. :)

Anon 8:44- Sorry to miss seeing Zuria and Gabe on tv. Yes, Rod is played as someone who has not yet come into his own. In the very beginning he was very sure of himself—very cocky. But after he met Luci his world turned upside down and he’s been a mess ever since. But I still like the big guy, and wouldn’t want to throw him over a cliff. I just wish he’d grow up already. He’s made some baby steps. His apology on his knees to Luci and his apology to Paz in Het Het, and his confrontation with his mother were a good start.

I too think at this point Gala wants to bail. I think she initially went into the marriage with the idea of socking it to Rod and Luci and also to enjoy the prestige of the TL name and fortuna. With her vast self esteem and the power behind the throne Julie she also probably thought that her talent in the sack would be irresistible to Rod and she could lure him over to the dark side. She obviously never thought that he would want nothing to do with her, ever, under any circumstances and her I'll never divorce you has locked her into a lifetime of misery.

I know people keep thinking Ofelia and Pato but I just don't see it. I think she is too old for him. On the other hand he is wonderful with kids and Marilita loves him so who knows. I'll have to wait and see how it plays out if and when she goes to work for him.

Yes Rod has been aware of Pato's feelings for Luci but not the depth of them. It will be interesting to see how he handles it and I really hope it doesn't drive a wedge between the brothers.

Decie Girl- I agree that I don't really see Pato and Ofelia together. It's just that there are so few real choices for him. As far as personality and interests go, Luci really is the perfect match for him. If Hannah and Melissa weren't his relatives, they would also be perfect. All the other ladies, as nice as they are, really aren't a good fit.

Gala's reasons for marrying Rod and refusing to divorce him, in order of importance:
1) Her pride
2) Revenge on Rod and Luci
3) Prestige of the TL name
4) Money

Julie's reasons for marrying Gala off to Rod:
1) Money
2) Money
3) Money
4) The TL name

Diana - no I don't think Pato has meet Ofelia.

Vivi/Deci - while the Pato/Ofelia match isn't ideal, as Vivi noted there are not enough women in this TN. She's a nice person and does not let money or power allow her to make bad decisions. That said, I think many of us have decided it will take an extraordinary woman to be worthy of our Pato. In this TN, that woman is Luci. I'm still ticked the writers have Melissa as his cousin.

Ah Vivi, you took me back to the 80's. Still moving to the music in my head. Thanks Sister! Like Diane said, your conversational recaps are the best. Much as I hate Gala, I pity her. There is nothing worse than a loveless marriage. Screeching and yelling at Rod only drives him closer to Luci. About that, what is the fool thinking. We are divorced but we can be lovers? Gala would have gone for that but not Luci. He should also have remembered that and believed her against his mom. Too late now. I simply love Pato, but as a catholic, your brother's pregnant ex- wife is taboo. Why do these writers insist on crossing boundaries? They should find Pato a wonderful woman who isn't Luci.
Thanks again Vivi.

Olive

Karen and Olive- Yes, can't the writers just whip us up a wonderful woman for Pato who isn't his sister-in-law, sister, or cousin? :)

Vivi--Spot on. I remember when Julie counseled Gala to start spending the TL money, running up bills and transferring funds to her account. Money is the only name in her game. I don't think she cares, though whose name is attached to the money. It could be Trump for all she cares!

Vivi and Anita- you guys are so right about Julie. I remember in the beginning of this TN, when Pato had his accident, the Torreslandas wanted privacy and Julie called the paparazzi and gave them tips for money, about where Pato was, and the family too. I will never forget the scene where Pato is being transferred home by ambulance and Rod had to get in the paps faces to get them to go, all due to that horrid Chamgagne Queen. She would sell her soul to the devil for money.

Now that Luci is pushing for Ofelia to become Pato's secretary, i am wondering...
if Pato does make a full recovery, then i would agree that Ofelia is a bit old and sedentary for Pato. Even though Pato and Marianita are indeed getting together really well.
But if Pato does not make a full recovery (he gains more control of his limbs but does not end up walking) then maybe Ofelia is the right one... she already has a child and she would not expect much in the way of entertainment/thrill/lifestyle... so i am on the fence here... I really want Pato to make a full recovery and give Rod a bit of a run for Luci, though. Even if Rod ends up getting Luci in the end, but Pato can do a lot of good for Luci's safety along the way. And Pato DOES DESERVE to recover completely. EVen if that is not quite fully realistic...

Another masterful job Vivi--great title and I always love bringing in song themes! and there were several important conversations in this one and you translated them beautifully.

Unlike some other commenters, actually I thought Matilde stood up to Roselena in this episode. Told her basically that her narcissism (obsessive about getting her own way in things) was going to lead to trouble. And Matilde's right...she's not actually "crazy". She's just evil in her desires to rule her world regardless of the collateral damage to innocent people. Matilde has also warned her earlier that her arrogance (soberbia) was such that she might end up all alone one day. That's pretty straight-shooting...especially for a servant who is treated like one, not like a friend or an equal.

Loved the scene where Jana hugged and kissed Paz--and also when Aldo called his mom a "guapetona". Hard to stay mad at a guy like that.

And what a hilarious scene...Procopio bleating that "she (Violeta could be your daughter!"...and don Aquiles dejectedly admitting that supposedly she is! Sweet.

Judy- You're right. Mati has come closer than anyone else in describing exactly what Rosa's problem really is (narcissism and arrogance), and telling her so. I guess it's the winging/whining way she does it that gets on my nerves. She really does know her niña better than anyone else. That's another reason why it get on my nerves that she underestimates what Rosa is capable of. She, more than anyone else, should know the evil Rosa is capable of to get her way.

I too am thinking Luci may confidentially spill the beans to Pato RE the baby head dream. That's where he'll jump up & offer to be her novia so at least under his name he can protect her from the wrath of JulGalMama...right???

And I didn't think about it but I'm too seeing a Pato/Ofelia pairing up down the line... he's shown he's good with the kiddos too.

Yes Hanna needs to kick that tool Boris to the curb. Let her friend have him if she wants him so doggone bad.

Rod..Rod..Rod....hasnt anyone told you that you're starting to look like a dog begging from under a buffet table when it comes to Luci?? That's possible revocation of your man card...LOL

"hasnt anyone told you that you're starting to look like a dog begging from under a buffet table" LOL! Anon 1:59- Rod does look a bit pathetic begging for Luci's scraps of love. But revoking his man card might be a bit too drastic, no? :)

Vivi...forgot to mention that I appreciated the embedded vocabulary...especially "gorgojos"...haven't heard the word "weevil" since we left Tenn. but it's a good 'un. Thanks for all your hard work, Vivi. Poor don Aquiles, no bride and weevils in his beans, couldnt' happen to a more deserving guy.

Thanks again Vivi---Your line "Like a bucket of Artic water, in swoops the Ice Princess herself, Gala" was GREAT!---I also liked your five step plan.

Decie Girl---I don't think anyone wants to eat at the Torreslanda's, I sure don't. I'm with you on the barrio food or a BIG YES to a lunch/dinner in Het Het. Hey, I would even settle for breakfast in Het Het, I would love it I'm sure.
the gringo

Judy- What a fun word gorgojos is. I enjoyed looking that one up.

Gringo- Yes indeed. A meal with the vecinidad folks or with the Het Het ladies would be delicious. I'm gald this show comes on right after I've had dinner, otherwise my mouth would be watering most episodes. But being invited to a TL dinner everyday would be the perfect diet.

in PR gorgojos is the little tiny tiny worms that you would see in an open bag of rice or flour or some other groceries that are left opened in a cabinet for a long time. (sometimes you might see it in open boxes of things that have some yeast like pancake mix, cream of wheat, etc.

Marta- Yep, those are weevils.

Hmmm...Pato/Ofelia. Kinda not feeling it. I had liked the idea of maybe Pato and Norma (CL's assistant).
But then that would certainly burst some Torreslanda blood vessels to have the sibling brood wind up with someone from the Het Het gang ( though beanie-inducing and a bit much).

Daisynjay- Yes, Norma was the other person we were thinking about. I can actually see that more than Ofelia. But she and Pato have yet to be introduced, although they were both in the court room during the CL trial.

ofelia might grow a bit more assertive given some training and opportunity, with someone who is great at lifting your spirits and motivation as Pato, who knows, she might grow into the role.

Laughing about Rod being like a dog begging under the table. During those two scenes yesterday I keep seeing a five year old with his fist under his chin looking up at mama and begging please mama, please mama, please.
