Amor Bravío #52 (Uni 47) Fri 10/26/12 Up From The Deep and Over the Heap; Luzma Knows With Tio Pervertido It Ain't Over Till The Fat Slob's Six Foot Under, But Dio Has Plans For Leo
Amanda swears Neighbor Lady told her and she had no reason to go around telling tall tales. Anyway, what called attention to the woman was her hurried, nervous look, like she was hiding something, maybe? (Dunno. I suppose the woman could have been worried she’d miss her bus back north to Texas or was just wearing the souvenirs she’d just bought…..) “—Now who could it have been?” “--Obviously she’s not from around here cuz nobody (but Nobody) looks like that here. But she could have come in while Julian was making me show him all the rooms.” Nat wonders if she came in during that time just to kill the padre. (¡Eso!)
Bruno and Mama exchange greetings. Xi introduces Cami to Sr. Bruno Moran. Cami’s guard-dog instincts take over and she immediately asks if he knows her friend, Vivi de Valle, since she has an ex-hubby by that name. (At the risk of being accused of using potty humor, is anyone else struck with the fact that this Be-Esser’s initials just happen to be B. M.? Hey, I didn’t write the character or name him. I’m jes sayin’…..) Cara de What-who-me? de Bruno.
Labels: bravio
Cam meeting Bruno was interesting. She didn't buy his obfuscation one bit.
Getting the foreman's job scene was kinda cute. Now I know how to act at a job interview.
Just a couple of thoughts as we await the traditionally awesome Friday recap!
* I like Rodolfo!!!
* I know that some don't like D'Andres' tattoo, but I think that it's fitting. I seem to remember that he was into fitness, and just seemed like a cool and trendy guy when he was married to Miriam, and it doesn't seem out of character to me.
* Now hand-sanitizing, nail-biting Alonso on the other hand ... that tattoo revelation was just disturbingly shocking.
I am a sucker for watching men in love. And I think that Cristian is doing a great job of showing that D'Andres is a man in love ... deep LOOOOOOOVVVEEEEE, and that he just can't help himself. He's impulsive, wants to be with Camila all of the time, is "intoxicated" by her, looks out for her interests, wants the best for her, etc.
*I'm liking that Pablo is making sure that his mama knows that he's not her Pablito anymore.
* I like Yago. He seems to have a heart. I was concerned when he seemed to be connecting to bratgirl.
* Bruno at LaMal ... he's a bad liar. Camila should see right through that. And ewwwww ... did Bruno tell Xi how beautiful Camila is? I thought that I heard some "hermosa" comments from him with respect to Camila.
* Luzma (tears)
* Luzma & Pablo montage (tears)
* Agree that (UGH!) tio (UGH!) should remain sin nombre!! (per one of the re-cappers)
* Padres (Los Albarran) --- sin corazones!!!!! Que lastima!!!! Shameful!
* Interesting that Dio was looking at a pic of Amanda. How is it that he hasn't met her? Doesn't he know about the Inn? Julian was staying there. Doesn't everybody in that vicinity know about the Inn?
* New Padre ... I hope that he remains a good guy. Priests need to be good guys.
* Rafa and Vivi seem to have their own theme music, so they are probably going to get together (that should be good!)
* I love the idea of theme music attached to individual characters, couples, and particular scenes. It helps the story to flow very nicely.
(Why do I keep singing "Te doy mi alma" in my head over and over again?)
Nanette
BTW, Bratgirl has a double whom I met at a Halloween party last night.
This is a great, welcoming and really smart, thoughtful group. Perfect company for novela watching.
Good luck to all in storm path. We're waiting here in NJ, hoping that our companeros in the south of the state will be able to get through the direct hit with minimal damage.
I also really enjoyed the montage of Luzma and Pablo's courtship. It was so sad to see how both of their hearts are breaking. I know many find teen/youth love stories in tns tiresome, but I have liked these two from the start, and am pulling even harder for them to get through this trauma. I'm also glad that Pablo continues to prove he is a MAN and stands up to his parents.
Melissa--welcome, truly. We learn a lot about life while coming together in this "Spanish Study Group" forum.
Cathyx--Have you checked out the 7pt-video of an interview with CdlF on Youtube? He is amazing off stage as well as on. He's totally speaking Chilean Spanish, so you have to listen carefully. This is to get you started: Cristian Interview

Ok, guys. It's up and good fare for those who need to diet--a real appetite buzzkill!

Break a leg, 5 FT.!! You are one busy and talented lady!

The host starts out with a few commercials, bear with it.
Ok, start with part 2 and the first one should pop up on the side bar.

I am applauding the writers for laying all the choices that Luzma has out on the line, and having many people defend Luzma's right to have an abortion if she so chooses. Loved the doc correcting Piedad's thinking about the baby being "dirty" and also telling her to butt out and let Luzma make her own decision. Piedad means well, but she is also very traditional/conservative, and frankly ignorant about many things (note, I do not believe the two things are equal). It's very good that Luzma has Camila around to support and advise her, and to give her all the facts so that she can make her own decisions.
Jardinera- I also had to fan myself when D'Andres stripped before getting into bed to cuddle Cami. And he did look VERY good in that charro suit when he tried to sneak kisses with Cami before his "suegra" returned. I like this couple more each day.
I had been thinking that Al has lost his usefulness to both Isa and Dio, and Dio basically said it out loud. Al better watch his back.
But one thing I'm not clear on is that if she has to wait 3 months to be able to do a DNA test, but she can't have an abortion after the fetus is 3 months? Is that correct? Is the decision that she either has an abortion and not know who the father is versus not have an abortion but be able to prove Leo raped her?
DNA tests aren't like blood type tests, either. They take time from start to results. Most television programs give the impression that they can get results in minutes.
Leoncerdo is so disgusting even Alonssso is squicked out by him.
Tio Leo
Bruno
Issa
Dio
Bratgirl
Pablo's mother (I can't stand people who think they are better than others and are truthfully hypocrites)
Ximena
Alonso (something tells me that he is not as bad as he is forced to be)
Miriam's brother if he was the reason Daniel was falsely accused.
I just hope that the justice is fair.
I understand that they don't want to do the DNA test any earlier on the fetus in utero because it could harm the developing fetus if the mother wanted to go full term. But it also seems that they won't do the DNA test on an aborted fetus (since that wasn't given as an option), hence the woman can't just go ahead and have an abortion before the 12 week wait period for the DNA test is complete. Bastards! Luzma would have to do the test, and then immediately have an abortion. Just traumatic all around.
My favorite D'Andres-related quote this time: >Bedtime at the M.Q. D’Andres sneaks into Cami’s bed in the guesthouse, disrobes (¡Ai-yai-yai!) and starts cuddling under the sheets. (¡Ufff!)<
Love the Alonso-and-so, so dead to Dio now, names.
Cathyx--According to the tn medical manual, at least the one they used in Sortilegio, taking a sample even from the amniotic fluid when the fetus is so tiny is verrryy risky--hence the need to wait.
Rodolfo was cute, forgetting his "place" and giving Cam that big hug when she gave him the capataz position. I think she was surprised by his move, but took it in good humor. I'm so sorry that at least for now, he's being moved to the side by Natalia's interest in Yago. Yago is older than Pablo, but doesn't seem to be old enough to have been a torero. Ni modo, we've heard he has a reputation of being something of a playboy, so here's hoping that it doesn't break our bright yellow bird's heart.
I too love Rodolfo's reaction to the new job. He even yelled out that he loves Camila, in a respectful way, of course. "La amo!!!" Nati is being a fool not snapping up this cutie and instead mooning over known womanizer Yago.
Thankfully I could oogle at Dan jumping into bed w/Cam and laugh at Rodolfo's reaction to his promotion.
Netgirl - yes, it was interesting Dio seemed to be wonder where Amanda was. Does he miss her? Or does he want to see her to threaten her?
Welcome Melissa. I hope you enjoy our community as much as we do.
Like others, I liked the sensitivity of the doctor, the realistic discussion of genetic possibilities, and the point that any further action is Luzma's choice. Good acting all around.
Piedad's sadness and shame were very beautifully portrayed. Way too realistic in some ways, but certainly what way too many families suffer.
It will be very interesting to see where this goes; the novela-god-induced miscarriage would be something of a blessing at this point.
Lovely, exuberant Rodolfo. Enjoyed his scene with Camila, as others did.
Alonso and Dio, no honor among thieves, even when one of the themes feels slimed (as he so often does, given his frequent use of hand sanitizer).
Tomorrow's entry will be set to post automatically in the unlikely possibility that we lose power in my area. If it needs to post automatically it will not have the avances, but someone can fill that in.
Though I'm not familiar with Mexican law I can speak to the available medical alternatives. Of course, if a D&C is performed at any time after implantation, paternity can be determined from the curettings. These days, after approximately 9 weeks, paternity can be determined from a blood sample from the mother.
For me, in this situation, since Luzma was a virgin and Tio Leo is the rapist, a logical choice would be a D&C. I can't imagine why that could not be used as evidence to prove paternity. Of course, often different rules apply in Telenovelandia.
Carlos
Also, great comments from viewerville leaves me with not much to add that hasn't already been commented on.
So, just one comment. I know I'm in the minority on this but there's something about Alonzo's character that I sympathize with. To me he seems more of a "bad guy wanna be", rather than hard core criminal. He's very easily influenced by his criminal mother. I'm not saying he's a good guy by any means (but unless he kills one of the good guys), I'm hoping that when the time comes to punish the bad guys, the novela gods cuts him some slack.
cathyx - I LOL'd at your early running monologue. You do know you can post more than one sentence at a time, right?
I missed Dio looking at Amanda's picture. Was it in his wallet?
The best thing about B.M. picking on X is that he won't have as much time to harass Viviana. However, I'm now afraid he'll start bothering Camila after finding her so attractive.
Rosemary la Otra
Rosemary, I had a different thought after every time I posted. I should have just slowed down and gave my brain some time to think instead of posting one after the other. But I assume I've said all that I want to say, then post it, and then I have another thought. I'll probably have more to say after this one too.:)
Also, during CME, I found a bunch of pics of Silvia N as a child and also put them on Flickr. The two black and white pics are of SN as a baby/shild actor in a tn: http://www.flickr.com/photos/65450998@N06/sets/72157631876366318/
I love those pictures of SN. She's always been a cutie. Wow, her eyes are so blue in the one picture.
I might take slight issue with one thing you said, however. Yes, I suppose the lady doc was a nice touch, but I was also furious with her for announcing Luzma's pregnancy not just to Luzma but to the world. I guess I would have hoped that a female doctor would have a little more sensitivity in these matters.
Did anyone else find it a bit of a stretch that the woman in the kitchen with Piedad came up with the idea that perhaps Piedad's novio didn't abandon her but rather Leoncio prevented him from arriving at the wedding? Granted, the none-too-swift Piedad might never have come up with the idea on her own, but it still seemed a clunky handling of that plot element. Up til now, the writers have handled the plot quite skillfully. Perhaps that's why this departure stood out for me.
Well, enough grumbling. I'm really enjoying this TN and I'm loving the recaps. Thanks again, Jardinera!
===========
Carlos, I had a sneaking suspicion you were still lurking on weekends. We always appreciate your real world medical insights and this time was no exception.
I myself would have thought the paternity test would be a much simpler and quicker process all around than what they've laid out here. I wonder what Jarocha could add to help us understand the legal why's and wherefore's in Mexican law with this topic. The next three months are going to be a living nightmare for Luzma. Every time she gets hit with morning sickness she'll be reminded of the rape and cursing that scumsucker and the legal system for having to continue this nightmare.
I also loved your treatment of He-who-shall-not be-named. "Festering piece of human debris" and "troglodytic tío" were excellent.
¡Ufff! That's what I said when CdlF pulled off his clothes. I had to walk up to the TV screen to try and see just a litttle smidge further down-- but no luck! :((
"Cami’s just about to get divorced and isn’t over that trauma yet. She’s got no time for lovers!! (Viewerville snickers in unison.) " Now, I LOL when I read that--because you were right!--I did snicker out here in Viewerville!
Thank goodness Luzma and Pablo seemed to get the best that was possible out of their murky gene pools. As others have mentioned, Pablo seems like a very mature, honorable and caring person. I hope the writers continue to portray his character so favorably.
OK, this whole thing about Luzma having to wait 12 weeks to get an abortion if she wants to prove that it was A**hole that raped her is a real beanie buster. Thanks Carlos for the real scoop.
The other beanie buster is what cathyx brought up yesterday:
"I don't understand why Daniel doesn't just talk to Cam, telling his story from the beginning, and finally ending with the fact that he is Dan and not Andres. Explaining all that he has done, all his worries and how Viv and Rafa helped him. No special meeting is necessary."
Believe me cathyx, none of us understand. ( Yeah, yeah, we know it lengthens the storyline.)
Finally, thanks to all the recappers--I haven't had any time to comment during the week. UA, a special thanks to you for the following:
"Tomorrow's entry will be set to post automatically in the unlikely possibility that we lose power in my area."
UA, you are a trooper to care for our addictions while you may be sitting in the dark. Good Luck!
I have closed my windows (I normally keep two open with screens in) and the lack of outside noise feels weird to me. A power outage is possible but we've been through worse without that happening.
Vivi, what's happening in your part of the world?
For anyone who has the Chiller Channel, they will be marathoning the 1991 Dark Shadows in a few minutes. Ben Cross was actually a pretty effective Barnabas (although I still dream of a Televisa version of this).
=====
Thanks for doing the autopilot thing, UA--you're probably going to have to explain to the rest of us recappers how that gets set up. I had no idea it even existed! LOL!

Vivi, Anita, Juanita, Barb, Foxy, TL et al since my daughter and SIL are down visiting I've had no chance to reply individually really, tho' the desire was there, so thanks again to all of you who weekly make our efforts here so satisfying!!
To the right of the text field the Post Settings menu shows a clock with the word "Schedule". Open that and you will get the choices "Automatic" (which is the default) and "Set date and time". Open the latter and you will get a calendar with the time showing at the upper right corner. It will open to the date and time of the click. You can change the date and time to whatever you like. Click "done" when you've made the choices. When you finish the text editing you can click "Publish" and it will publish it at the moment you have set it for.
You can still go back to edit the article at any time before it actually posts. You will then hit "Publish" again and it will be on hold until your pre-set time.
I'm going to use this opportunity to remind everyone to use the Jump Break feature as well. That is the icon to the right of the movie clapboard that looks like a window broken in half. Place the cursor at the spot where you want to make the break, then click this icon. This insures that we don't crowd each other off the main page.
So far it's just steady rain since last night, the wind beginning to pick up a bit. Every area govt. office and school is closed (just in case); no air, rail, bus or subway service (just in case). I'm hunkered down, waiting for the lights to go out.
A toasted English muffin with homemade fig jam (I have two fig trees) and a fresh pot of coffee (Mexican Chiapas) has prepared me for the worst.
Anita - stay cozy. Sounds like you're settled in. Just so you have your book, flashlight, batteries and thermos filled with warm Mexican Chiapas, you'll be fine. Wish I was on your Christmas list if you are giving out homemade fig jelly! Sounds delish.
I'm sickened by the turn in Luzma's story but I've decided to keep watching.
I have some sugar-free banana bread in the fridge that I made on Friday. Figaro and Carmen are sleeping.
Sue455 - I so totally agree. I had decided I would not watch anymore if Luzma was pregnant, but then I read this recap and am desperate to know what Luz is going to do. I think seeing Leo get beaten up helped, and Pablo's unconditional support, bless his heart. If we had to watch Leo keep walking around, leering at Luz, I don't think I could handle it. Who knows though? They may release him. Let's hope he is not allowed back on the ranch.
"Al mistakenly tries a bit of solipsistic logic, obviously something which necessarily flies right over the head of Luzma’s troglodytic tío."
UA, Viv, Anita and any and all East Coast lurkers .... please be safe and know that everybody in Caray is wishing the best for you and yours.
UA and Viv - Geeez WWAAAYY beyond the call of duty to have written and scheduled for posting prior to today. True professionals in the recap world.
Whoever it was that makes figgy jam, send the recipe pleeez... We have a tree here too and figgy jam is so good!
Please be safe all our East Coasters including: Vivi, UA, Anita and Sue455.
Didn't watch Friday's ep and will probably not watch for awhile. Going to keep reading the recaps and comments until I feel it's "safe". Did the same when Lumi got raped in STuD.
Funny: Flaco thought a beanie moment was a good thing since some of us have Emilia's awesome beanies to wear!
Nanette
@Rosemary la Otra: no, I haven't seen El Tal. Sounds like it might be fun, but perhaps more so if one is watching it as a community (a la CarayCaray) rather than alone. I will keep it in mind. Thanks.
Don't know whether this is a result of the storm, but it has taken me 4 tries to prove that I'm not a robot (or at least a harmless one)
I'm trying to finish reading a biography on Alger Hiss, by John Chabot Smith that has been sitting around for a couple of decades. For you younger folks, he was one of the first casualties of the Communist Red Scare in the 1940s and 50s. Guess who was one of the most ardent defenders of his accuser, Whittaker Chambers--Richard Nixon, in one of his first committee assignments (HUAC) as a freshman Congressman.
Mena. Fig jam is probably the easiest thing in the world to fix, although it is, like with most fruit, labor intensive and loaded with sugar. My fig chutney is enviable, too.
I usually make two batches at a time, but each batch in a separate pot--easier to handle.
For each batch, start with 4 - 4 1/2 c. fresh, clean, dry, quartered figs, ripe and some unripe (for me it is one or two days picking--they keep in the fridge nicely)
1/2 c. to 3/4 c. water
2 - 3 c. sugar (sorry, but white cane sugar is what I use)
2 - 3 tbs. fresh lemon juice.
Put the figs in a heavy pot with the water and start to heat it. Add the sugar and stir until completely dissolved. Bring to a hearty boil and then reduce heat to a simmer. As it begins to foam, spoon off the foam and the seeds (which seem to congregate along the edge of the pot--it's not necessary to get every single seed). Continue to do this, watching the pot frequently until it's all clear, then cook it down to your favorite viscosity--about 30-55 min. There's no need to hurry this part. Then put in jam jars and seal.
Vivi - NW? As in Northwest?
I am reading, and enjoying, Salman Rushdie's autobiography called Joseph Anton. Although he's written the book, he describes himself in 3rd person.
RlO--I listened to Diane Rheem's interview with Salman about his new "autobiography." I'm very interested in reading it now. He said he couldn't call it a real autobiography and he couldn't call it a memoir. The name he chose for the title was the alias he used during the period he was in hiding (but of course you would know that by now).
The Hiss book refuted most of Whittaker Chambers "inventions," using common sense and taking into account the mob mentality towards finding our government riddled with traitors and spies at that time. It was not an apology for Hiss. Unfortunately, at the time, there was no good forensic evidence that could have vindicated him contemporaneously. I got interested because I started reading his son Tony's memoir and realized I didn't know enough about the Hiss case. Good, straightforward reporting.
Anita - yes, Joseph came from Joseph Conrad and Anton from Checkov!
