Abismo de pasión #141 10/1/12:The Truth- It Will Be Told

RECAP BY CATHYX

Hospital: Gab and Dan are still fighting about who cares.

Procesadora: Elisa decides she should finally go into work and act like an owner of the business. Carito greets her and tells Elisa that she heard about what happened and was worried about her and is glad that she finally came back to work. Elisa is mad that no one in La Ermita has anything better than to talk about what has happened to her. Surely she canʼt be the only girl in La Ermita to have been kidnapped by a man whose mother despises her and tricked her son into marrying a woman who pretended to be pregnant and plotted to kidnap the townʼs doctorʼs daughterʼs baby whose father was a statutory rapist from Italy, and that Elisa was going to marry a man who just found out was her kidnapperʼs brother and would have killed said kidnapper if it werenʼt for the fact that the padre broke a confessional secret to reveal it in order to save that kidnapperʼs life. Or that her fiance had finally confessed that he slept with her best friend while he was promised to her, even though she stole her fiance from that best friend and even though she was feeling guilty for having hot beach sex with her kidnapper. I mean really, is everyone in this town so bored with their own lives to have nothing better to talk about?

Carito apparently has her own problems that we arenʼt let in on, but seem to have something to do with her health. Elisa seems to know what it is, but she isnʼt gossiping about it yet, so we donʼt know.

Paloma has been working too hard lately and thought that she needed to take a breakfast break with Enrique before starting her workday to discuss the latest happenings. She wants to know why he told Gael she was pregnant and that it was Enriqueʼs. He reminds her that in every TN heʼs ever acted in, everyone always hears half of what is said and jumps to conclusions. Gael did his part by only hearing half of it, and Enrique didnʼt try to set him straight. Therefore, he claimed that her baby was his. She is worried now that Gael will tell Elisa and then the whole town will know. She confesses that the baby is Gaelʼs. Enrique is surprised by this. (These kids in this town are incredibly bad at putting evidence together and drawing a conclusion) He tries to talk her out of leaving and she doesnʼt want to hear it. Her mind is made up and Ramona will help her. He loves her and wants her to marry him. She doesnʼt love him though, and tries to pass him off on Florencia. Enrique tries to win her over again, but sheʼs not going there. Sheʼs leaving town. She thinks Enrique is the best guy ever, but she doesnʼt love him and goodbye forever. Enrique is crushed.

Doc Tovar comes out of his office and barely sees Flo over that huge typewriter. (I asked before and Iʼll ask again, can someone give that girl a couple of phonebooks to sit on, either that or a computer) She is crying about Enrique and says she lost him forever. He reminds her that she had her chance with him and she poured him down the sink like expired milk. I really hope he doesnʼt know that she plotted to steal his grandchild from his daughter and pass it off as her own, because if he did and were still this nice to her, I would think that he should have been buried alive with Ingrid. Flo tells him that Enrique is over her and doesnʼt want her anymore. Doc tells her that heʼd give her a good recommendation if she wants to leave. She wants to stay and fight for Enrique.

Wow, this day must be marked on the calendar because not only has Elisa come to work, but Gael did too. They meet up in the conference room. There are El Yucateco products all over the table. Gael wants to tell Elisa about Paloma, but she doesnʼt want to discuss private matters at work. Lucio, Enrique, and Braulio come in too. Ok, really, we need to put this day on the calendar. She called the meeting in order to tell them that because they have worked so hard?!? they have bonus checks coming their way, and then passes out the checks. Brau canʼt believe he could get so much money for doing so little and is very pleased. Awful Gael Lookalike makes an appearance and says to Enrique that he should be pleased with this bonus. It will help in the starting of his new family. They stare at each other. Gael asks why he doesnʼt share his good news with everyone.

Begonia comes to visit Carmina. Carmina is wearing mom khakis that are really unflattering. (Boy Carmina, you used to be such a fashionable dresser. Youʼre slipping and itʼs starting to show) Carmina asks if she came to discuss her smooching with her ex. No, in fact it gave us the opportunity to work on our marriage issues, so thank you very much. Begonia just came to rub in the fact that Carmina is in that big house all alone, without a husband, children, or even a niece she despises to torment anymore. Carmina does that twitchy face thing that indicates that this conversation is really bothering her.

Poor good Enrique is trying to fend off the Mean Gael Lookalike assault. He explains that itʼs no secret how he feels about Paloma Sheʼs marvelous and little by little he fell in love with her. And thatʼs why he wants to marry her. And Elisa asks what she said to that offer. Dickwad Gael lookalike speaks up saying thatʼs not the only news, and wants Enrique to tell the rest. Enrique says that Paloma wants to talk with Elisa heʼs not doing it here, so just shut your piehole. Gael gets up and tells Elisa that after she talks to Paloma, he hopes she can realize what a big mistake she made in leaving the greatness that is Gael. Elisa is completely confused because she has yet to ever in her life be able to put two and two together.

Lucio and Elisa arrive home and tell Lolita that they had a very good day at work. They are now the most important habanero processor in the Yucatan. Elisa wants to take her bonus money and buy Cielo Abierto y La Quinta from Carmina. Lola reminds her that Carmina will never sell it to her. Elisa says that oh, yes, she forgot about that detail. What was she thinking? That reminds Lucio that they checked the ownership of the Blue House, and only Rosendo and Carmina ever owned it. Never Estefania. (Now, with that big news, wouldnʼt you think that would be the first thing they would tell Delores?)

Flo comes to see Paloma at night on a full moon. Ramona wants to chat first. Ramona thanks her for fulfilling her promise, i.e. revealing that she wasnʼt actually pregnant at her wedding and giving Damian the divorce papers. Flo says, whoa, hold on, I want to thank you for being the only person who trusted me. Alf took away my dignity and made me do things I didnʼt want to do. Itʼs hard to start again. Ramona tells her to not be so hard on herself, sheʼs stronger than she thinks. She hears Paloma enter and says if Paloma were as strong as Flo, she would have the courage to let the truth out about her baby.

Elisa is standing outside of Cielo Abierto. The neurons in her brain are starting to make some important connections. Sheʼs remembering her conversation with Damian about him remembering back to when he was a kid, Carmina told him the Blue house belonged to a friend of hers. Then again he saw Carmina leaving it. Elisa the recalls the time when Gael, Damian and she were little kids and saw Rosendo leaving the blue house. She rings the bell and Carmina answers the door. She enters and is surprised at how dirty the place is. She tells her that she wants to buy the place from Carmina. Carmina is tired of Elisa thinking that since sheʼs so successful now she can just get whatever she wants. Elisa reminds her of Alfonsina, all that money but so alone. But she isnʼt going to sell it to her. Period.

Elisa informs her that she found out that the blue house was never owned by her mother. Carmina says that Stef must have asked Rosendo to put it in Carminaʼs name. Elisa finally puts it all together that what they saw when they were kids, Rosendo and Carmina leaving the blue house, that Carmina was Rosendoʼs lover, not Elisaʼs mother. Carmina has to think quickly now, for she has only the time it takes for a commercial break and for Flo and Paloma to finish talking about their love lives and to come up with a new lie to get out of this.

Flo Doesnʼt want Paloma to blame Enrique for Gael finding out about her pregnancy. Paloma tells her itʼs ok, she talked with Enrique and he explained everything. Flo tells Paloma that Enrique is in love with her. Paloma is surprised by this. (Really, these young people are so dense, I worry that the water in this town is tainted with lead) Paloma insists that sheʼs not in love with him. Flo tells her that guys like Enrique are hard to find, she shouldnʼt let him go.

Ok, Paloma and Flo are done and we get back to Carmina. Hereʼs what she came up with in that short time. She tells Elisa that itʼs ridiculous and that Elisa must have been talking to the Padre. And heʼs a big fat liar. No? Not him? Well, then go talk to Alfonsina. She has plane tickets with her momʼs name on them. She saw them herself. Elisa is holding firm that she still doesnʼt believe her. Elisa brings up the time when she lied to her about Augusto not being her daddy and she and Damian were siblings. (oh Elisa, you are playing with a professional liar here. Carmina has been lying to you and everyone since you were knee high to a grasshopper. Sheʼs even convinced the town pathologist, a professional with a degree no less, that the two people she killed committed suicide. You have to come back with something better than this) Carmina will not be bested. She says that Rosendo did Carmina a big favor by ending Stefʼs life because it gave her the opportunity to marry the man of her dreams. Elisa knows sheʼs been beaten this time. All she can offer is that she will come back with bigger, better evidence, just wait. (What an amateur.) Elisa leaves and Carmina knows that Elisa is like a run in her pantyhose. Once she gets started sheʼll only get bigger and more obvious with time. She can only put so much nail polish on her until she canʼt contain her anymore.

Now we have Ramona working on Paloma to encourage her to accept Enrique. Iʼm glad that all the money that the Enrique table has pooled together to fight for his position in Palomaʼs life is going to good use. I think I put in a fiver. I hate to think it was wasted. Paloma is tired of it all and says they are leaving town tonight. Ramona is surprised by this and doesnʼt like it. (Who is calling the shots here Ramona? Sheʼs acting like sheʼs the boss) Ramona needs another week to get ready. Paloma says no way, tonight it is
.
Damian is at his motherʼs bedside with his mask carefully protecting his neck from contaminating Alfonsina. (Come on wardrobe department, does he really need it now? If heʼs not going to wear it properly, just remove it) Alf wakes up. She is so glad to see Damian still by her side since sheʼs about to meet her maker. Dam assures her that everything went fine and she will live. Well, in that case, she decides to come up with another plan to get that grandkid sheʼs always wanted and Dam better get right on it, because she wonʼt live forever, cough, cough.

Why is Doc having breakfast with Begonia? (Psst Doc, go visit your son at his workplace but be sure to check in at the reception first) She starts in about Enrique dodging a bullet with Paloma. Doc tells her that Paloma really is pregnant and Enrique just wants to give the kid a last name, cause if she doesnʼt get married, the kid will only have a first name. You know, like Cher, Fabio, Madonna, Bono, Prince, Usher, Sting. But Paloma doesnʼt want to get married. Begonia is relieved. Doc tells her that Enrique is still in love with her and is sad she wonʼt marry him.

Carmina is alone at home walking around the empty pool with decaying garbage in it, which I guess is a supposed to represent her barren womb. She recalls the time when Elisa made her fall in and lose her baby. Just then, a recently showered looking Gab runs up behind her and grabs her, startling her. He doesnʼt have his bandana on his head. Letʼs hope heʼs washing it. Carmina tells him that she canʼt keep living in this big empty house with all the bad memories she has here. she wants to move in with him. He says no, he doesnʼt want to live in his house either with his bad memories of getting a bullet in his head. She wants to sell the place to someone who isnʼt Elisa. She wants to destroy Elisa and wants him to help her. She starts to convince him the only way she knows how. She kisses him all over. Enough! All of this is making his bullet hurt. Letʼs hope little Gabino is up to the task.

Elisa is telling Lucio about her conversation with Carmina about the house. She tells him about the plane tickets with her momʼs name on them. Neither can believe it and Elisa wonʼt rest until she gets to the bottom of it. He asks her if she brought up wanting to buy La Quinta. Carmina will never sell the hacienda to Elisa. They come up with plan to have a third party try to buy it for them. But who? Hmm, who could they get to do it?

Hmmm. In walks Carito with coffee for them. Now, who could they get to buy it? Hmmm. Carito serves them the coffee. Hmmm, who could they possibly get that Carmina doesnʼt know? Elisaʼs lead addled brain finally has an idea.

Cynderella, donʼt watch this scene. Padre is still wearing the ascot. Dam and Padre are at the hospital. Dam is troubled by all the crap that Alf has done to him his whole life. Padre tells him they need to help her see the light and go toward it. Too bad that I donʼt mean he thinks she needs to die. Instead he means that she needs to understand her mistakes and help her through them.

Elisa and Lucio take Carito out to lunch? Breakfast? and try to convince her of their plan. Carito says she doesnʼt like to lie and is uncomfortable with the plan. She has heard a lot of gossip about Elisaʼs wacked out family and doesnʼt want to get involved. Elisa thinks that the best way to convince her is to air more dirty laundry about her family. Like how Carmina got her dad to marry her two days after they buried her mother, how Carmina blamed Elisa for the loss of her son, how she plotted to convince everyone that Elisa wasnʼt Augustoʼs daughter, and how Carmina lied about the ownership of the blue house. And how Carmina has tormented Elisa since she was born and never had a good word to say about her, even turning her own father against her. She drove him to drink. And just when she finally won the love of her father again, she discovered him shot dead in his chair before the will could be changed to leave the house to Elisa. Now do you see why I want this house so badly? The memories were so terrific. Carito now knows that her family isnʼt just wacked out, but seriously psychotic. Sheʼs in.

Paloma is saying goodbye to Doc. He was like a father to her, didnʼt expect her to actually show up and work, and sheʼs eternally grateful for that. Heʼs touched and gives her a hug. He tells her that he was there when her mother gave birth to her. He was in surgery when she was born and her mother died. Raising a child by herself is immensely difficult. She needs to take good care of herself and the baby and it wonʼt be easy.

Begonia surprises Enrique at work. She came to talk trash about Paloma. Elisa comes just then to ask if itʼs true that Paloma is pregnant.

Thanks Novela Maven.

Oh Cathyx, thank you! I'm glad I got to read this before my Tuesday afternoon commute-a-thon. So very funny and spot-on!

Favorite line:

"Enough! All of this is making his bullet hurt."

[SNORT]

thanks cathyx! about to read now... but did anyone notice the bus going by when Gabino and Tangel-Ho were chatting by the pool/alberca?
Isn't the quinta away from town probably without access to the main roads? then again it seems sometimes they need to ride cars or horses to get there and sometimes they are there in a flash from town...

You were SUPERB, cathyx!!! You are doing a great job as a recapper and this was just great!!

I think what Elisa was handing at work was probably either bonus or Dividend checks (remember they all pitched in their savings to start this procesadora).

About Carmina asking Elisa if Loopy was the one who tattle-told her... that should send Elisa straight to Loopy as a potential person who knows the secrets on the dark side of the orange moon. But that would certainly put another anvil on Loopy, and i am not sure Elisa 'caught' the hint. For Loopy's sake, hope not. Although Carmina might think that Loopy did tell Elisa something...

Now Lolita is the one gathering the 'facts/clues' lately. Now all we need is a casual meeting between Lolita and Ramona where Ramona will give her her two cents worth (what Stefie said before dying and the fact that she saw Rosendo with someone in the fields earlier that day, maybe Lolita would know it was not Stefie) and then Lolita will piece it all together even before Lucio and Elisa do.

Cathyx,
LOVED LOVED the snark about the run in the hose and Carmina not having enough nail polish to stop it... certainly her house of cards is falling apart. great acting from Sabine with her face when BeGoneYa left and she felt that what BeGoneYa said was so true.

Elisa is completely confused because she has yet to ever in her life be able to put two and two together.
DITTO!! especially when after Gael leaves in a huff, Enrique tells Elisa that Paloma needs her more than ever, and that Elisa needs to help him convince Paloma not to leave town... (so why did we not see any attempt of Elisa to go talk to Paloma in the rest of the ep? .. that only tells me Elisa's priorities are NOT with her best friend, but with getting the house and CA from Carmina... some friend!)

Cathyx your comment about Elisa's family, i.e. "Carito now knows that her family isnʼt just wacked out, but seriously psychotic", applies to almost ALL of the major characters, both dead and alive, in this Novela. (Of course there are exceptions like ex-Fr. Lupe.) Carmina wins the prize with Gabino a close second.

Cathyx, bravo! This is great, just hilarious. So many fabulous lines but if I had to pick one --

"He [Enrique] reminds her that in every TN heʼs ever acted in, everyone always hears half of what is said and jumps to conclusions."

hahahahahaha! So true.

My favorite line in the script: When Elisa has sung "The Tragic Ballad of Little E and the Rotten Citrus" for Carita and the latter, in tears, expresses amazement that Elisa can sing her song without crying. And Elisa tells her that she has learned to suck it up! [Snort!]

Such a great lunch read Cathyx. (Note: don't eat Japanese with chopsticks while reading hysterical recaps. ouch) Was flipping back and forth last night to the Bears game, so missed some of the boring....er shenanigans.

Do we really want savvy, smart QuiQui with whiney, pathetic Paloma?? I'm off that fence now. Frankly, that girl has gotten so on my last nerve, that I wouldn't wish her on anyone. I get very disturbing images of her as a nagging housewife with that down-turned mouth thing she does and the sad eyes, deep breaths every time she doesn't get her way.

Too funny about the filthy state of the house. We always suspected that Cargo Carmina was not much in the house-keeping department, but lord. Glad they didn't show the kitchen.

And the first thing Alfi harps about after coming out of surgery is wanting to still be a grandmother before it's too late. Hello--look at the stock in town? be careful what you wish for. (Or is this a hint that a certain perky-boobed CEO has her own bun in the oven?)

"Or is this a hint that a certain perky-boobed CEO has her own bun in the oven?"

Oh yeah, daisynjay, and it's going to be fun seeing Alfie trying to reconcile learning that her heart's desire is gestating in the womb of her nemesis.

Perhaps one of the Poets of the Pit could write a sympathy card just for such an occasion?

cathyx - Thank you for the wonderful & snarky recap! I appreciate it. Too many funny lines list here as my favorites!!!

Glad I was not the only person who thought Carmina's khakis made her thighs look big.

"…he hopes she can realize what a big mistake she made in leaving the greatness that is Gael." Seriously. LOL

Carito looked like she was making eyes at Don Lucio. Or was that my imagination?
BTW, where is Maru???

marta - I saw that bus!!!

I cannot wait for the Por Fin. I am sooooo ready.

What we learned last night:

Carmina's house is on the bus line

Elisa promises discretion about Carito's mystery illness, in the lobby of her procesadora

Lupe's life is in grave danger

Paloma is stuck on stupid

Carmina is obviously broke because her hair looked a hot mess.

Begona doesn't know the meaning of the pot calling the kettle black. If it weren't for Edmundo being generous with her and making Sabrina & Enrique talk to her, she'd be just as alone & broke as Carmina.

Speaking of last names, before he found out he was an Arango, what was Gael's last name? Was he just "Gael?" And what would Elisa's new last name have been? Just Elisa Castanon de ???

Just wonderful CathyX. Your first paragraph had me wheezing, then came the "mom khakis" (ouch, I think I have a pair), "the greatness that is Gael", and "knows Elisa is like a run in her pantyhose" (could this be a new proverb in the making?).

Also enjoyed the mask protecting Damian's neck. Great observation. Good thing Alfonsina doesn't have to worry about germs, I'm sure her evil heart is the world's best antibiotic.

Yep, we should be hearing about Elisa's pregnancy soon. And maybe, just maybe, we can STOP hearing about Paloma's.

Cathy, I love Love LOVE your Procesadora paragraph. It is a work of art, er snark, er artful snark. Whatevs, it is genius. In fact your entire recap is quote-worthy. In FACT...it's one of the funniest recaps I have ever read. So there!

"Dickwad Gael lookalike", snort! "Elisa is like a run in her pantyhose", double snort!! What a great sentence and great analogy.

Boy that is some bonus if Elisa can use it to by Carmina out. Could it be that she gave herself just a bit more than she gave to the others? Just wondering aloud here. And yes Cathy, normal people would have given Lolita the blue house news first, sheesh.

Marta, I like the idea of Lolita puting 2+2 together. It just wouldn't be believable if Elisa did it because, as cathyx points out, she has never ever done it in her life.

daisynjay, "(Or is this a hint that a certain perky-boobed CEO has her own bun in the oven?)"...yes! I didn't get it at the time but I do believe it is.

Thanks again Cathy, and thanks Novela Maven for posting.

CathyX:

This recap was a rollicking good ride from start to finish. The whole section starting with, "Surely she canʼt be the only girl in La Ermita to have been kidnapped by a man whose mother despises her...Or that her fiance had finally confessed that he slept with her best friend while he was promised to her, even though she stole her fiance from that best friend and even though she was feeling guilty for having hot beach sex with her kidnapper. I mean really, is everyone in this town so bored with their own lives to have nothing better to talk about?"

This was a hysterical summary of our show and I just loved it. Loved it.

My other favorite comment was, "Damian is at his motherʼs bedside with his mask carefully protecting his neck from contaminating Alfonsina." Oh, my, CathyX, I LOL.

Altogether this was a great recap, surely your best to date. So glad you joined the team.

Still giggling,

EJ

Cathyx, I LOVED the whole "Surely she can't be the only girl..." rant. So funny when it's all summed up like that. I also enjoyed:
- he reminders her that in every tn he's ever acted in...
- the pantyhose/nail polish analogy
- Psst Doc, go visit your son at his workplace but be sure to check in at reception first.

Such a great recap! Thank you!

Marta, I also saw that bus. It reminded me of El Tal where sometimes in the background there'd be beautiful trees, but sometimes they'd forget to dub that in and you'd see traffic and a building.

Bout Dam time they start putting these flashback memories together. Didn't all those dizzying flashbacks, and flashbacks within flashbacks, seem a little Inception like? My money is also on Lolita for figuring it out.

So that pool has sat there all this time empty? Well, I guess if you have a private cenote right around the corner...

Rosemary la Otra

Thanks for this hilarious recap, cathyx. Your first paragraph really made my day. Like Judy and Elna June, I especially appreciated:

"Damian is at his motherʼs bedside with his mask carefully protecting his neck from contaminating Alfonsina."

I've had such high hopes for a real turnaround for Begoña ever since this show began and yet one consistent thing about this is that she never fails to disappoint.

Yeah, let's take Carita, whom we barely know and who is not in the best of health, and put her in Carmina's sights.

Carlos

The funniest line in the show was Elisa telling Carito she wasn't sobbing during the sob story "porque ya me canse' llorar". LOL And WE are tired of hearing it, Elisa!

Cathyx- Your recaps just keep getting better!

RlaO- Actually, I busted out laughing as soon as Carito asked how Elisa couldn't cry, with a story like that. Like, where has she been for the last 140 episode llorathon? And then I laughed even harder when Elisa gave her answer. I think the writers threw that converation in just to make Viewerville laugh.

Vivi, yes that line just HAD to be deliberate. Elisa? Tired of crying? "Llorathon" is the absolute perfect description.

I wonder if, when Padre Lupe gave up the priesthood, the costume people tried to put him into a plaid shirt and jeans and he resisted? He is definitely not wearing the traditional La Ermita uniform.

Carlos

Llorathon! LOL

Padre Dapper likes the more dignified look. He'd be mortified that we are laughing at his neckerchief.

Querida Cathx,

You had me snorting!

The comments about giving the baby a last name were hilarious.

And, yeah, Anon27, what *is* Gael's last name?

I saw the bus, too. It reminded me of when planes used to fly over the action in "Zorro," which took place in the 19th century.

When Elisa said she was tired of crying, I could hear the WHOOP from the patio.

Anon207: "Carmina's house is on the bus line". I'm DYING laughing!!!!

I could have sworn that I've read somewhere that Boyer, Zepeda, etc, etc are taking this show "on the road"...to the theatre, perhaps?!

These actors think that highly of this wacko TN?! Seriously?!

I too saw the bus! Also the Carito comment that Elisa wasn't crying! I said aloud, Ay Carito! you want the whole viewers get upset again with Elisa's crying!!About the Hacienda, I noticed it was so rundown like an abandoned ruins. The walls around the hacienda with the paints peeling off. The empty, dirty pool, ( I like the comment that it's symbolic of the barren Carmina). Well, could it be that they filmed these scenes first on this abandoned hacienda that they found, then remodeled it for the earlier times that we have been used to, beautiful as it should be?

Tonights episode is almost over for me, but I just had to come say this about last nights episode. I was holding out hope for a second for Begoña. But that was quickly gone after she trash talked Paloma.
-TF

Anon207, hillarious list .. again!

i can just imagine Carmina signaling a public bus to stop and then standing inside of it... this image and the running hose reminded me of a great ep in Yo soy Betty la Fea with the Patricia character...
