Abismo de pasión #152 10/23/12: In which Elisa gets a house, Horacio gets a hand, and the blue-eyed demons get naked.

Lo de antes:

·      Stinkin' liar Gael swears he'll never betray Paloma.
·      At the ProCe El Yucateco, Braulio and Lucio lament the cost of the new machine; and both notice Chente's absence.
·      In the street, Gabino smacks Chente upside the head for being too obvious in Operation Destroy El Yucateco

Lo nuevo:

Carito and Elisa think fast:
Carmina surprises Elisa and Carito in the midst of an affectionate hello at la ProCe El Yucateco.  "How do you happen to know each other?" The conspirators come up with a plausible explanation:  Carito introduced herself to Elisa the day before after Carmina told her Elisa owned one-quarter of the quinta.

Double BubbleHeads at Doc Tovar's consultorio
Blubbering Paloma falls on Florencia with her tales of Gloomy Gael.  Her grandma was right -- she should never have married him.

Elisa knows how to play hard to get (Does she ever!)
She feigns reluctance to accept Carito's offer ... she's not sure she wants to see a stranger in possession of the family haunted house.  Oh ...  well ... ummmm.  Sigh.  Okay.  She'll take it.

Paloma's thinking she should have played hard to get ...
because -- get this -- by "giving herself" to Gael, she ruined his chances with Elisa.  Poor Gael.  Flor, you may recall, is not exactly Switzerland here.  She gives Paloma the standard amor no correspondido cheer  ("Give me an L",  "Give me a U" ...  ¡Lucha!)

Meanwhile Grumpy Lyin' Hound Dog Gael is sniffing after Elisa at the ProCe.  She reminds him his work is in the greenhouse, not the office.  She knows he followed her to Mérida last night and she's not happy about it.  For his part, Gael is unconscientiously (and unconscionably) echoing Paloma:  His marriage was a mistake.  Elisa, growing increasingly uncomfortable and irritated by Gael's relentless pursuit, is relieved when Enrique steps in and offers to accompany her to her appointment at the notary's office.

The notary's office is abuzz today.
Dam is working out the details of his joint venture with Elisa's ProCe. He urges the notary's discretion on the matter, especially where Alfonsina is concerned.  The secretary interrupts the men to say that Carito has arrived.  Dam is surprised to learn that Elisa and Carmina are selling the quinta.

Open mouth, insert foot.
Paloma arrives at Lucio's house looking for Elisa.  Elisa is expected shortly so Lolita invites her in to wait and stay for lunch.  Then, noticing Paloma's sadness, she blurts out that she needs to keep Gael on a shorter leash -- what was he thinking showing up at the restaurant in Mérida the night before!  Oops -- Lolita thought Paloma knew about Gael's Creepy Stalker Excursion.

Carmina cuts herself on her own sharp tongue
Back at the notary's, Elisa tries to convince Enrique to forget about Paloma and look for his happiness elsewhere.  Carmina catches them standing together, their hands joined; and crowing with malicious joy -- as if she had discovered them in flagrante -- she snorts that it looks as if Elisa needs to have every dam man in La Ermita.

This is too much for the normally phlegmatic Enrique.  How dare Carmina insinuate such a thing! She is the one who broke up his parents' marriage by carrying on with the Doc even though she was married to Augusto!

Damián, on leaving the notary's office, is just in time to catch the show.  Neither Dam nor Elisa knew about the Edmundo notch on the aunt's belt.

Once Dam and Enrique have left, Elisa fires back: "Paolo, Edmundo Tovar -- and who knows how many others?  And now you end up with Gabino Mendoza?  That's pathetic!"

Carmina agrees that she could do better than Gabino ... hmmm ... she could do with a little of that Dam Fine.  Elisa warns her to keep her Orange Nastiness away from him -- or else!

We never get to see the actual mud wrestling because the secretary interrupts them with a summons to the inner office where Carito and the notary await.

Braulio is taking his afternoon meal in the fonda when Gabino Mendoza, the bandanaHanded human emetic, slinks into the place, and settles opposite him.  Braulio gets right in his face, accusing him of hiding Horacio.  Then lunging toward Gabino menacingly, he adds: "Everyone knows that Horacio killed padre Lupe!"  Gabino denies, denies, denies.  He was as surprised as everyone else to learn that Horacio was alive.  And he knows nothing about Lupe's death.  Braulio's not buying it.

Speaking of Horacio ...
A patch of loosely packed bare dirt outside the Blue House catches the gravedigger's eye.  It's a filled-in ditch, like the ones in the cemetery. He scratches the surface and finds something -- an earring?  That can't be a coincidence ...  He begins to dig, ever more frantically.  And then he sees it -- a decaying human hand!  Horacio goes into reverse, quickly filling in the hole.

Alfonsina's  investigation bears fruit; and we find out Lolita's last name.
Alfonsina's gloomy rumination is mercifully cut short when Toña announces that a certain "Arnoldo Santos" is waiting to see her. It's the investigator she hired to find the truth behind the famous boletos.  Who was the woman traveling with Rosendo Arango?

Alas, the airline folded years ago and the records are all gone.  But Santos has learned something important: the tickets are fake!  The paper isn't old enough to be genuine.

Alfonsina is so pleased with Santos's work, she gives him one more assignment: find Horacio and bring him to her before the police get  hold of him.  He will probably be somewhere close to his wife, Dolores Martínez.

Carmina is in hog heaven.  Hurting Elisa and making a profit at the same time?  It doesn't get any better than that.  She kisses the check for the quinta and agrees to move out this afternoon so Carito can move in the following day.

Once Carmina is gone, Elisa and Carito squeal like a couple of quinceañeras.  Then Elisa hurries back to Lucio's house and shares her glee with Dolores and Paloma.  They can move back to the quinta tomorrow.  What will Carmina say when she realizes she sold to Elisa?  "Que se muera de entripados" says Lolita. (Let her choke on her own anger. tripas: guts, innards).

Paloma takes Elisa aside and begs her to help with the Gael Problem.  It's not enough for Elisa to pretend to be back with Damián.  Their renewed romance must be real or it won't convince Gael.  And why shouldn't it be real?  Elisa loves Dam, right?

Now Carmina descends into blubbering bathos
She fingers Estefanía's pearls and flashes back to Augusto's anger when he found her with her sister's jewels; and his blind, violent rage when he realized she had lied to him all those years; that Carmina herself -- not Estefanía -- was Rosendo's lover.  She remembers grabbing the shotgun ...

Gabino's arrival startles her out of her nightmare reveries.  He is here to help with the move.  And he is holding the shotgun.  She takes it from him, sends him ahead, and finally -- finally! --  pulls that damn magenta suitcase out of the quinta.

There's a full moon out.  We should be ready for anything.

In his little house in town, Lucio is a little pouty about Elisa and Dolores moving out.  And he's sure Carmina is going to retaliate when she realizes she's been had.  Elisa isn't afraid. (Though she should be.)

In the Blue House of Shame, Horacio lies in the dark and plays with his revolver.  He wonders: ¿De quién sera el cuerpo?  (Whose body could it be?)

A pick-up truck pulls up in front of the Blue House.  Horacio peers out and spots Gabino and Carmina.

Carmina is kvetching nonstop.  It turns out downward mobility isn't that much fun. And the whole place has an "Ingrid was here" kind of vibe. Gabino gets to shlep the bags.  The couple pause at the front door, noticing the lock is broken, and they blame Ingrid.  She must have done it when she was trying to find the boletos.  "Hey", says Carmina, "where are the tickets?"  "Let's just say", answers Gabino slyly, "that nature is protecting them."

Now it's time for I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours -- checks, that is.  Nothing like money to put these two in a good mood.  They get to reminiscing and giggling about the time they were inside having fun while the poor horse had to wait outside for hours with only Ingrid to keep him company.

Two minutes later
Headache boy looks pleased with himself and the Rotten Citrus is uncomplaining.  But what are they going to do about the Horacio problem?

Horacio has been lurking and watching and listening all this time.  Double ewwwwww.  When headache boy rolls over on Rotten Citrus for Round Two, Horacio seizes his chance.  He runs like hell and gets out of there -- but not before Citrus spots him.

La Ermita lets a lot of things slide but it does frown on streaking.  So Gabino and Carmina are hampered by the need to stop and put on some clothes and Horacio gets a good head start on his pursuers.  Carmina is left standing outside in a shroud-like gown (too bad the ditch is closed up -- just one little push ...).  And Gabino pulls away in the camioneta, his clothes still in a pile on the seat beside him.

Evening in the cantina
Dam tells Braulio about the plans for Elisa to invest in La Anita.  Braulio explains that the future is uncertain for him and Dolores now that Horacio has shown up on the scene.

Dam knows that Horacio is a criminal but he doesn't think he murdered his uncle Lupe -- he just doesn't think the guy is capable of killing someone.  Braulio begs to differ.  Horacio didn't come out and say it but he gave him to understand that he had killed Blanca.  And it was Gabino who pressured him to do so.

Sullen Sadsack Toña is sniveling quietly in the kitchen of Hacienda Harango when Horacio slips in behind her, grabs her and and covers her mouth.  He has to talk to Alfie.  He insists he's innocent; and he's not leaving La Ermita without his Lolita.

Toña may not be smart but she is cunning.  "If I help you" she says to Horacio, "will you swear to take Dolores away with you forever?"  "I swear it" answers Horacio.

Even Dam Stoopid is starting to fit some pieces together now.
Gabino.  Horacio.  Bad men.  Gabino very bad man.

Gabino is also a man with lousy timing.  He doesn't notice Dam and Braulio are right behind him when he goes up to the bartender and asks to be told if anyone sees Horacio.  "Why?" asks Dam.  "Are you afraid he'll tell the police you two were working together?"  And he adds darkly: "If I find you're behind my uncle's death, I'm capable of killing you with my own hands."

Avances:  Horacio tells Alfie that Carmina murdered Lupe.  Lolita is kidnaped.  Elisa and Dam get back together.  Dam goes for a swim and Carmina dives in with malicious intent.  She seems to be aiming low.

NM this was great. I particularly enjoyed your observation "Carmina cuts herself on her own sharp tongue." It seems the last episodes will be a bit madcap.

Did anyone notice how the Final date changed from Nov 2 to the 5th?

Novela Maven, what a great job. I thought this episode was a bit confusing. I'm so glad you recapped it.
So what is going to happen with Pal and Gael and do we care anymore?
I thought Lola got divorced from Horacio when he was in jail. No?
Lucio was so cute when he was pouting about being alone now that Elisa bought the house.
Your part about the cheer had me laughing out loud. Honestly that fight for your man stuff is so pathetic.

There still seems to be a lot of loose ends to tie up, I hope they don't try to do it in the 2 hour finale. I hate it when they do that.

NovelaMaven: I smiled at the title and by "In the street, Gabino smacks Chente upside the head for being too obvious in Operation Destroy El Yucateco" I was in full laughter mode.Tthis was wonderful -I enjoyed every single sentence of your witty summary, especially "She seems to be aiming low".

I thought this was a pivotal episode. We now see there is no hope of Ingrid magically reappearing. Now that Horacio heard Gabino's summary of where the tickets are, will he put two and two together to redig the grave? Those tickets are the only definitive proof of Estefania's innocence.

Gael is beyond pathetic. I love how Elisa is cold shouldering him and basically telling him to "get". You mean nothing to me. Bye bye.

Yes, Elisa should not be rejoicing in her deception of Carmina. She should be very afraid. Has she learned nothing??

I'm glad Alfie now knows the tickets were fake. I think this will give credence to Horacio's future claim as to who murdered Lupe.

Kidnapping Lolita? More angst.

I can't wait for Gabino and Carmina to meet their fates. Can't happen too quickly.

Diana

NovelaMaven - Thank you for the recap. Love the title!
I FFWD-> most of the rehash stuff last night and struggled to stay awake during this episode. Only Horacio finding the grave held my attention. Finally some new action.

NM - Muchas gracias x 10! I love a book with titled chapters and look what a treat this was:
Double BubbleHeads...
Carmina cuts herself on her own sharp tongue
Two minutes later
Thank you!

I really am stunned that Horacio found a hand. I DID think Ingrid would show up, if only to remind Gael to open the dam present.

Speaking of ewwwwww...thanks for the tripus translation of guts and innard. We can now retort "que se muerade entripados" with confidence.

Ah, it's Wednesday morning and here I sit, hot tea placed safely by my side, dictionary next to it, because for a Novela Maven recap I usually need to have my handy dandy reference tome at hand.

Novela Maven, loved the title and loved the recap from beginning to end. The Citrus is really losing it if she thinks attempting to seduce Damian is a good idea. She doesn't react well to rejection. Does she really think he'll want to squeeze her rotten fruit?

Favorite scene: when the "normally phlegmatic Enrique" threw the soup about Carmina boinking Daddy Doc while she was still married. Woo hoo! That shut her Pumpkin Piehole right quick.

Sabine did such a great job self-destructing on her way out of the house that I almost felt sorry for her...until I reminded myself she is evil incarnate. Great acting there if not just a touch over the top. But hey, that's why I like these shows.

And Horacio discovered Ingrid's hand. Yikes!! This episode set the ball rolling on some interesting actions. That little snake Tonia. I take back all the nice things I've ever said about her. Oh wait, I guess I never have.

Thanks NM, I loved your succinct yet snarkalicious style and your scathingly brilliant descriptions. Double Bubbleheads, Grumpy Lyin' Hound Dog Gael, Blubbering Bathos...snort!!

thanks for the great recap, NM!
yes they were fooling around with the finale date, as they were switching back and forth saying ultimas semanas vs ultimos capitulos last weekend.

so... Gael seems to be holding on to secret gifts, secret envelopes/folders... but he is too self-centered right this moment trying to make life miserable for everyne around him to remember any of that...
now Horacio has a little secret and I doubt Alfie will tell anyone about the 'fake' plane tickets... other than really start worrying that if Gabino took such care to give her 'fake' tickets, that SHOULD only mean the name on the original ticket was NOT Estefania's. So we might see her go through some emotional roller coasters...

Oh, I forgot to point out my new avatar. I FINALLY got to hook up with ex-recapper Schoolmarm and meet face to face. She was at a conference nearby and we met for a lovely and giggle-filled afternoon. That's me on the left and Schoolmarm on the right.

Thanks NM. Had to skip last night and this filled me in nicely. Rather glad I didn't catch Gael still being pouty, Pal still being Pathetic and Carmina just being Carmina. May jump unto Hulu and catch Horacio finding the creepy hand. How very Halloweenish.

Interesting if the previews you mentioned are correct. Gab is ratting out his sweetie-pie? no honor among theives in this town is there?

I'm sure the finale date is getting moved because of all the debates, soccer and what not that keep interrupting the time slot.

Dang it NovelaMaven, I always get writer's cramp noting down all your witty phrases and headings.

"Flo...not exactly Switzerland here."

Carmina cuts herself on her own sharp tongue

bandanaHanded human emetic [Gabino]

there's a full moon out, we should be ready for anything...

and about a gazillion more.(sorry, hands tired from raking ten million gazillion leaves)

I just couldn't get interested last night, bailed early, but you certainly made it sound a lot more interesting and sexy than it was. Good for you Bad Girl!

Gab will rat out anyone, including his grandmother, if it keeps his own hide safe or is profitable to his wallet.

That dress Carmina wore to the closing, and moving out . . . good thing she did not ask anyone if it made her look fat or her day would have just gotten worse. eek.

Doubtful that Alfie would want anyone to know the tickets were fake, because then she might have to fess up how much money she paid for those.

Thank you for the recap!

It's about time someone smacked Chente upside the head. I've been saying that all along and waiting for it to happen.

I was THIS CLOSE to changing the channel a few times. There were just some things almost too crazy...and stupid to watch. The first time was when Gael was trying to convince Elisa that she still wants to be with him. Elisa should've busted out with that Taylor Swift song. The second was when Carmina walked in on Elisa and Enrique and when Damian saw it all too.

I'm thinking Flo is looking fairly good on her road to redemption. Maybe she should become a marriage/relationship counselor. She was the one that started the whole thing but I'm sure she didn't expect DamFine to kidnap Elisa.

I don't understand why Alfie wants a PI to find Horacio. She knows he's in LaE. I wonder what her real intentions are? So Horacio found Ingrid's body...It's about time someone did. I loved the scene when he almost attacked Gab and Carmina. Hilarious!

One final thing about this episode. Does Carmina really think she can seduce DamFine?
--TF

Sylvia - love the new avatar. How fun to meet up with Schoolmarm. I can just imagine the giggles!

Let's hope this TN is streeetched out due to the debates, etc. as I just can't take any more filler. What would they do? Show us Ringlet's hand yesterday, up to her elbow today, then tomorrow the shoulder? How far can they drag out the unearthing of one mujer?

And how the heck did that earring get way up there? Was she using it as a little shovel from below?

That was so funny when Carmina agreed that being with Gab was pathetic!!!

Since we seem to be in agreement that Orange-Ho will get hers eventually, how wonderfully fitting it would be for the Great Pumpkin to get smashed on Halloween!

TF - Carmina surely thinks it is worth a try with Damian. She tried with Pad Lupe. She will try anyone.

Excellent recap. Sorry, recappers, I haven't commented lately.

Anyway, Gael might be pond scum, but he sure cleans up good. Love the new 'do.

Sylvia- I also love the new pic of you and Jean. How wonderful you met up!

TF- Well, if Camina thought she could seduce Padre Lupe, then yes, she does have the gall to think she can seduce Dam. Of course, when Lupe rejected her he ended up with a knife in the back, so I hope Dam has some quick swimming skills.

Schoolmarm told me to be sure to send besos y abrazos to all of you at Caray, Caray! She is such an intelligent woman with a great mind, yet also very down to earth and completely approachable. She is a kind person who truly cares about others.

Now back to business...TF, I think Carmina believes she is irresistible. So far only Padre L has completely rejected her. She killed him of course. Oh, and when Augusto rejected her she shot him too (granted, he was physically abusing her at the time). ITA with Vivi, Dam had better be a dam good swimmer.

Pasofino, Gael does look better doesn't he? Now if only he would wipe that scowl off his face. I want the cute, sweet Gael back.

R la O, the Great Pumpkin getting smashed on Halloween...I love it!!

Thanks, NM -- what fun! Lots of good lines, but these are my faves:

- We never get to see the actual mud wrestling because the secretary interrupts them

- Once Carmina is gone, Elisa and Carito squeal like a couple of quinceañeras

- In the Blue House of Shame, Horacio lies in the dark and plays with his revolver

- La Ermita lets a lot of things slide but it does frown on streaking.

...and the winner:

- The whole place has an "Ingrid was here" kind of vibe

¡¡Jajá!!

- The whole place has an "Ingrid was here" kind of vibe
LOL! Indeed!!

last night i was watching The Voice and they had a Joan Jett song 'I hate myself for loving you' and thought about a few characters here that could be singing that song in particular... beginning with Carmina (singing it to Augie after remembering so many bitter moments with him) Elisa, Gael, even Gabino if he is indeed infatuated with Alfonsina ...

Good point Marta. Sometimes it seems as if this whole telenovela has been about "I'm with you but I wish I were with someone else", or maybe "I love you so why am I with someone else I don't love?" Or maybe "I don't know who in the heck I really love." These characters are all screwed up!

Pasofino - I, too thought Gael was looking rather 'hawt' last night, and thought it was just me. ;o)

Thanks NovelaMaven. I love this bam bam bam format. I missed the last few minutes because my reception went out, so I'm especially appreciative.

I'm becoming obsessed with Gabino's handkerchief hand. What is the wrap for? Someone pointed out that he was wearing it before the invernadero fire. I originally thought it was an affectation but when he was in the hospital for his head injury the bandana was replaced with a real bandage for awhile. Does it get laundered from time to time? Does he have more than one? I hope my questions get answered before this wraps up.

For a moment last night when Carmina was reminiscing about shooting Augusto that she might shoot Gabino... glad she didn't.

Paloma cracked me up pleading with Elisa to hook up for real with Dam so she could hang on to Gael. Can she get any more pitiful? I'm guessing the answer is yes.

Carlos

Novela Maven, this TN makes so little sense, but your recaps explain it as best as possible.

The most annoying thing about the Paloma/Gael issue is in one breath Paloma tells Gael the she knows that he still loves Elisa, and then in the next breath she asks him what's wrong, why can't he love her? And this conversation happens in every episode.

Carlos, I have always wondered about the bandanahand too. I wonder if that actor has a tattoo he's covering that some viewers would find offensive or maybe has the name of a female who isn't on this show. It has to be covering something up.
And you ask can Paloma get more pitiful? She could wear an Elisa wig and clothes and try to look more like her. Now that would be more pitiful.

Paloma might get more of Gael's attention if she wore a crochet vest and hot pants. Compared to Elisa, Paloma dresses rather conservatively.

Okay. Are all the Patio regulars here? Cheers to you all! Thanks for all your clever words today and all through this sojourn in La Ermita. It's been a blast.

About all the mismatched lovers -- I'm most impressed by how very conservative this novela is. It looks like it's going to end somewhere very close to its starting point. Two "royal" families still ascendent, four young people dancing a quadrille who will sort themselves out into partners, villains who declared themselves from day one and will hang on until the last anvil falls, and outsiders like the Landucci family and Ingrid and Kenia who keep the plot moving and then are disposed of, never breaking into the inner circle. (Flor is a Landucci, true, but Enrique is also something of an outsider in La Ermita.)

The other night Mr. Maven and I went to see an amazing production of The Taming of the Shrew. I was struck by the way the plot relies on the arrival of two outsiders, Lucentio and Petruchio, to upset the status quo, oust the boring suitors and yes, tame the "shrew". Lucentio and Petruchio would have ended up as road kill in La Ermita, I suspect.

Cathyx:

Lolita stopped her divorce proceedings after she was told that Horacio was dead. It's unclear whether the annulment of the boda religiosa had been completed. (Not that it matters. Does anyone expect Horacio to survive?)

Diana:

I agree that this was a pivotal episode. (I almost named the recap "The turning of the worms"). May I say that I particularly appreciate all your comments. You are the kind of generous and careful reader that every writer hopes is out there. Thank you so much.

Karen:

I like your choice of the word "madcap" to describe these last episodes. I guess creating crazy last-minute crises builds ratings, huh?

Doris:

Feel free to doze during the show as long as we still get to see you on the Patio and you're willing to share the occasional zinger with us.

R la O:

Yes, "que se muera de entripados" is a keeper. It reminds me of some old Yiddish curses. :)

Only in telenovela land can the tickets that were buried with Ingrid still be readable and intact. Even with Ingrid being well decomposed with her bones exposed. But you never know with monkey writers.

Good lord, Sylvia, do you really need a dictionary to read my recaps? Forsooth, I bleed! (snort!) I dare you to find one single word you didn't know today! Pfffft. Can't do it, can you?

P.S. I love your new avatar.

Marta, Thanks for reminding us the Gloomy Gael is still sitting on a couple of unexploded bombs: Rosendo's will and Ingrid's wedding gift. (Let's hope the writers don't forget the wedding gift. Hey, It happens.

Daisynjay, It certainly is very halloweenish. As R la O put it, it would be great to see the Great Pumpkin smashed on halloween.

JudyB, I am so honored that you read the recap even when you can't bear to watch the show. I'm not sure how I feel about you outing me as a Back Row Bad Girl. (Not many people know that.) :)

Hey TF, as other people have said, if Carmina tried to hit on Lupe, she must be seriously deluded about her universal appeal. So why not Dam Fine? It IS worrisome though because in Carminese, "to flirt" is defined as "1. to seduce; 2. to murder, especially when one's seductive overtures have been rejected."

NM: No, I don't expect Horacio to survive, but I was really hoping he'd go out in a blaze of glory saving Elisa or Lucio so that Lolita would always hold a piece of him dear. Now with the kidnapping, I can't see that happening. I think Braulio will need to take him out to rescue Lolita.

I just can't with Paloma.

"Elisa get back together with Damian FOR REALZ so Gael will leave you alone. Do for me, eh?"

Gael followed and SPIED Elisa & Damian playing tonsil hockey in Merida and is still manhandling Elisa in the workplace, telling her he wants to dump Paloma & get back together with her.

I just don't see how Gael will fall in love with Paloma in the next week. He's just not that into you.

Pasofino:
"Gael might be pond scum, but he sure cleans up good."
Ain't it the truth? jejeje

Vivi, I agree. Let's hope Dam has kept his cenote survival badge up to date.

Carlos, I fear we will never learn why Gabino wears a bandana on his hand. I suspect it is the kind of inside joke that keeps people going during 16 hour work days in a place as hot as central Texas in mid-July.

"bam bam bam format"? Really?

Blue Lass, I'm so glad you're out there. I count on you and JudyB to find the stealth bombs. Thanks.

R la O, I thought the previews showed GABINO chloroforming Dolores. So maybe Horacio will get to rescue her after all.

Anon207, I also find it hard to imagine Gael falling for Paloma. I'm perfectly happy to sacrifice Gael (say in some heroic rescue scheme) to keep the plot moving along. Then Paloma could be a respectable (and wealthy) widow raising her child alone. And perhaps Enrique could come a-courting ...

Novela Maven, I wish you were a writer on this show instead of the monkeys and write your scenario instead. I'm willing to sacrifice Gael for the good of the show. I know, that's big of me.

Cathyx, I AM willing to work for peanuts. :)

Thanks NovelaMaven! That was a pretty exciting epi, I'm glad you got to recap it. Horacio uncovering "the hand", Elisa for once pulling a fast one over Tía, Tía cutting herself with her sharp tongue (loved the outing of her affair with Doc Tovar), Horacio's great escape from casa azul with an undressed chase, and then surprising Tonia! Pretty great stuff in spite of Paloma weeping and Gael's continued stalking.

Hilarious recap - especially all the rotten citrus and emetic parts.

Lolita has been wearing some knockout embroidered traditional blouses lately. Last Friday's black number with good and white embroidery was stunning and super elegant. Last night's was just as elaborate even though in muted pastels.

Cathyx, I thought of the hand-tattoo angle, too -- but when I looked online I found several photos of Salvador with a normal-looking right hand. It took a long time, too, since most photographers don't seem to want to focus on his hands.

So my theory that he started wearing the hand bandana right after he set fire to the invernadero (way back when under Alfie's orders) is not correct? I noticed Chente wearing a matching hand bandana the other day.

No, I think he was wearing it the very first time we saw him. He used to work on engines at the proce; in fact, it was his fault the car carrying Rosie and Stefi crashed (he was supposed to get a new car but instead got one with a rebuilt engine, or something.)

Audrey, I've always found Dolores to be the most beautifully dressed character in the novela. I can't remember any other tn where the "servant" is consistently shown to be more elegant than her "betters". (I'm just talking about how she dresses, whether she's dishing out product placement kitchen products or attending a wedding or funeral. Servants are often better human beings than are their employers but that's a different story.)

Chente started with a hand bandana soon after learning that Gabino was his sperm donor.

Blue Lass, how selfless of you to undertake a search like that -- and all in the service of truth!

Gael hasn't been into Paloma once since they got married.

I think we need to start watering down the drinks at the Women of a Certain Age Table.

I know I keep saying this, but Rosemary you are so funny. And I want what you're having at the Women at the certain age table.

Oops - that was supposed to be "gold and white embroidery".

Maven:

'Twas a fine recap, Missy. I am out all day but I want to say 'Thanks', and tell you how much I appreciate you.

Sorry I couldn't hang out on the Patio today. See you all tomorrow.

Great work, NM.

Tu amiga,

EJ

You are so right, NovelaMaven. Bridal finery normally does absolutely nothing for me (yawn), but in Lolita's wedding dress she looked like she had just stepped out of a Mexican period painting, and she was just stunning! It was so nice that the TN showed are really traditional Mexican bridal getup.

Yay! EJ phoned home! Let's drink to that!

*Oh, sorry, R la O, no more for you tonight ... or maybe you'd like a nice cup of tea. (It's ok. Begoña is in Guadalajara and she has nothing whatsoever to do with the beverages served on the Patio.)

To everyone who replied to my comment...thanks and I probably should've thought about that. I almost forgot about Carmina trying to do it with Lupe. What is it about the Arango men that has her so desperate? Granted, she hasn't gone for Gael. I'm guessing that she just wants what Elisa kinda has at the moment. Although Dam and Elisa are officially back together, they still love each other.
--TF

I don't think Gabino had anything to do with the Rosendo car crash.

Braulio complained to Rosendo that the La Anita truck was broke down. Rosendo gave money to Gabino to buy a new La Anita truck. Gabino bought a used truck, had it painted to look like it was new and pocketed the money.

Braulio was driving the truck but it broke down and I think he was in an accident.

My dear Maven, I had to look up bathos. So there! I know you've used it before but I guess it didn't stick. You think nobody knows you are a Back Row Bad Girl? What about we who are in the Back Row with you? Hmmmph. (nudge nudge wink wink)

EJ, so glad you are back. And thank you for letting me drink your share of the Mai Tai pitchers while you were gone, hic.

Anon207, you must be right about Gabino and the car/truck business. Otherwise they would have made more of his culpability...
