CORAZÓN VALIENTE

Sorry, guys, recap won't be up until tomorrow afternoon (Saturday). I was out all evening at our neighborhood's pumpkin carving, wine, and potluck party!

PABLO ESCOBAR, Viernes, Part 1

The narcos arrive safely at Pablo's jungle hideout.

At El Espectador, the cleaning lady is crying. She laments that the next target may be this newspaper, and then she'll be out of a job. She needs the money. Ana Maria comforts her.

Fabio tells Pati, his sister that Pablo really did it this time. What do you mean, the killing of Senator Galán? Oh, they always blame Pablo for everything, even if a dog gets run over, they blame him. Look at me, Pati, he responds, shaking with anger. This time it's different. This time he did it, and it doesn't just affect him, it affects all of us. What he's done is the beginning of the end.

Colonel Quintana's coffin is lowered into its grave as Ernesto holds back tears. Flowers are tossed onto the coffin.

Pati is sitting at the table across from Pablo, who has their daughter asleep in his lap. You really did it this time, Pablo. Fabio told me EVERYTHING. What, where is your brother? Don't go looking to take it out on him, what have you got to say? Pablo pauses for a long time. In measured tones he tells Pati “In the eyes of my children I'm no murderer. Therefore, from now on, they'll have no access to newspapers, magazines or newscasts of any kind. That's an order. You got it, Señora?” She just stares.

Gloria is distraught, talking to Maruja, the wife of Alberto, Galán's adviser, who is in Indonesia. There's no need for you to come back, Maru, it's too dangerous. Maru answers, You should get your family out of the country, too. Yes. Maybe I should.

Ulloa, Pabon, Peraza, Fernandez and a new guy, Colonel Aguirre meet to discuss strategy. Out of this group, I like Pabon and Aguirre. Pabon shows an organizational chart of the Medellín cartel he got from Quintana's records. These are our targets, you have the bosses at the top, the advisors, and the people who carry out the commands lower down. Where are the Moreno brothers? asks Peraza, who always seems to be snickering, and hasn't helped one bit as “Chief of Security”. (the Moreno brothers are the ones who actually killed Galán, I think, the older one is Miguel). We don't exactly know how they fit it, says Pabon. Aguirre speaks up, we'll exterminate (he says fumigar) every one of them. Ulloa says watch your language, and Aguirre says, I mean CAPTURE every one. How are we going to do it? Ulloa says we'll use roadblocks, taped conversations, bribes, whatever it takes. What about corrupt police, good luck with them, says idiot Peraza. Ulloa calmly responds we'll start with our small group, and we'll fully check out each person. We five are responsible. Pabon and Aguirre will be in charge of Medellín, Peraza and Fernandez will take Soacha. Fernandez pipes up, but we don't have a single clue (pista). Too bad says Ulloa, because it's been made clear to me that either we have positive results, or we'll be dismissed from the service.

PABLO ESCOBAR Part 2

Gloria and the boys dress for the funeral. The middle boy gives Juan Manuel, the eldest, a speech he says was prepared by the staff. There's lots of silence. In the huge street funeral, thousands of citizens chant and cry, bringing tears even to my eyes, as we again see mixed footage including the real coffin, the real pueblo, the real family members, the real tears. Juan Manuel gives a speech praising the honesty of his father, and the commitment to stop the lawlessness which will continue. He then calls on Cesar Gavriria to carry on his father's fight. He should be the next President of Colombia. Listening on his radio, Saltorini almost spills his drink. We see flowers being lifted by those in the crowd, white handkerchiefs being waved.

The next day, the police start arresting EVERYONE who has anything to do with crime, with suspicious phone calls, criticism of Galán, possession of weapons. Peraza brags to Ana Maria about the arrests. When Ana Maria wants to know if it's anyone important, Peraza says that's confidential, M'am. Ana Maria asks if the police can do more to protect El Espectador. Oh come now, Doña Ana, he responds. Every newspaper has condemned Escobar, do you think he even cares about yours? Well, we have a history with him. Could you possibly restrict the airspace above our building. That's ridiculous, says Peraza, he's not going to BOMB a newspaper building. No, you can rest easy. I can assure you, he says smugly, NOTHING will happen to your newspaper.

OH REALLY?????!!!!!!

EL SECRETARIO - FRIDAY, OCT. 26:

(It is very difficult to write recaps for this show because I'm laughing so much during the episode. - Jody :) )

The night after Toni and Felix's interrupted wedding.

Em and Toni are in her suite. He says good night and leaves to sleep on the sofa in her living room area. She starts to cry; he hears her and returns to her bed. She lays her head on a pillow on his knee. He whispers to her, "You're not alone, Doctora, you're not alone" as he strokes her hair.

Meanwhile, Paola is downstairs in the lounge area confessing to the Pastor that if it wasn't for Toni's interference, she and Felix would be together. Pastor is shocked as Paola's confessional story makes it sound like Toni took Felix from her, and then stuns Paola by asking her why she never told Toni about her and Felix's relationship?

Next morning, Felix wakes up in a jail cell, with a cross-dressing man cuddling with him. The police tell him that he is free to leave --- alone.

Mario wakes up and freaks out when he hears the knock at the door. He starts to chase around his apartment and hides under the table. When he hears Yessie's voice, he lets her in. (Uh, big mistake) Yessie is on the war path, looking for answers to what is happening with Felix and the company. Mario tries to keep his mouth shut, but Yessie knows him too well and refuses to leave without answers. She pushes him to the bathroom. He fears a cold shower. She tells him to take one -- to wake him up and get him to talk.

Em wakes up and hears the church bells ringing outside. He wakes up Toni and then goes down to meet with the Pastor. Downstairs at the door to the hotel, Em meets with the Pastor. Pastor thinks he knows Paola's story. Em is trying to figure out what happened to Felix last night. Pastor doesn't answer Em's questions - gets Em to look away and disappears in the opposite direction.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – VIERNES – Part 1

Miggy looks groggy and confused in a Colombian bar, dressed in a loud, narco shirt with some bling around his neck. He’s arrested by some cops for being Jesús Matamoros. Ringo looks on smirking from the corner.

In the bedroom with the not so very tasteful gold bedposts El Verdugo spins a tale about his night of passion with Fabiola while she listens in horror and disbelief. He tells her she was the hottest female he ever had in his bed. He says she’s now his, and kisses her toes.

Samantha chews out Gael at his apartment for kissing her and for the failure of the guy who was to help her get Luz to appear. We can see D8D in the background, removing his enormous telephoto lens from the tripod. [Is he maybe compensating for some shortcomings?]

Some thugs show up demanding that Gael pay back his gambling debt or die. Obviously this tells us the reason why he was so quick to betray Sammy and Willy.

Willy is with Camilo and is staring at the cell phone photo of Sammy and Gael supposedly kissing each other. He doesn’t come to the conclusion that she’s mad for Gael, though. He assumes she’s done this to get Luz.

Miggy tries in vain to convince the cops he’s not the bad guy, but they show him an ID card for Jesús Matamoros with his picture on it. He’s beginning to detect the fine hand of EV.

The Reptile points a gun at Gus. She tells him she promised herself revenge for his killing Ofelia. Of course, she takes no blame herself for having planted Ofelia there, disguised as the Reptile, to kill Ángela while recording the murder.

The guy I’ve decided to call Pegleg tells JM that he spoke with a woman about the ransom money. JM tells him it couldn’t be Ángela because the Reptile killed her.

Ángela tells Nora that maybe JM might be alive because they’re asking for a ransom. Nora isn’t very hopeful, saying she knows how bad her daughter is. Nora tells Ángela she’s going to Colombia to reason with Fernanda. Uh oh.

Pegleg and JM, holed up in a cabin somewhere, discuss how the ransom will be handled. After the guy gets the “deposit”, he’ll take JM to the US Embassy in Bogotá. JM also wants him to help Miggy and Fabiola, and he will give him an additional $1 million if they are freed. Pegleg is impressed and decides to tell JM that Doña Victoria DIDN’T kill Ángela. She went back to LA.

The Reptile now has Gus in the dungeon. She thanks Canario for arranging the kidnapping of Juan Cruz and starts some boring gloating over Gus.

Fabiola is imagining scenes of El Verdugo all over her. Laura shows up in the bedroom. Fabiola is, of course, very surprised to see her. Off camera, Laura tells her the story of she and Javier and that Jessica is their daughter.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – VIERNES – Part 2

EV shows up outside Miggy’s jail cell. He tells him the reason he’s there is for coming between him and Fabiola.

We see alternate scenes of Laura telling Fabiola that her brother, JM, is dead and Pegleg telling JM that Ángela is alive.

Samantha manages to kung fu the thugs and gets a gun from one of them. She tries to get Gael to call the cops, but he won’t. She lets them leave, and Willy shows up going straight at Gael to beat the crap out of him.

After Laura is taken away, Ringo stares at Fabiola. He then tells her he can’t see what EV sees in her since he’s had lots more beautiful ones in his bed.

While they’re driving home, Willy accuses Sam of being a liar and shows her the photo of she and Gael kissing. He says she went too far this time.

Nora shows up at D8D’s office asking him to contact Fernanda and let her know she’s on her way to Colombia.

EV reads the newspaper article about Matamoros’ capture to Miggy. He taunts him, saying he’s a paisa (a Colombian). Miggy fires back sarcastically that of course they’ll believe it when they hear his paisa accent. [We watchers of Pablo Escobar and El Cartel can recognize this accent immediately.] EV wants a photo of Miggy with today’s paper to show Fabiola as “proof of life”. Miggy refuses.

The Reptile is gloating over Gus and proceeds to whip him in the dungeon.

Ángela is dressed in her bodyguard clothes and is walking on a street with Juan Cruz in her arms. A black car screeches to a halt and a guy shouts at her to give him the child. She carefully puts down JC and goes after the guy with some excellent karate moves. She pulls out her gun and shoots the guy, who turns out to be the brother of Canario. The other guy gets away.

Sam tries to explain to Willy that she wouldn’t have actually gone to bed with Gael to get Luz. Nobody asks who took the picture.

Fabiola is refusing food!! When she won’t take food from Rosario, EV tries. He then shows her a newspaper article showing Miggy in his cell. She smiles widely in pleasure that he’s alive.

The obviously crooked police guards appear to have made good on EV’s vow to make him suffer in jail. They stuff some kind of a poisoned sandwich in his mouth. He feels sick immediately and falls to the cell floor. He tells himself that he’s not going to die.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – VIERNES – Part 3

Dummy Duval, showing his usual zeal [riiiiight], hears about the attempted kidnapping from Ángela. She tells him about the ransom request and gets a blank look for her trouble.

In the odd cabin Pegleg coos sexual innuendos at his girlfriend on his cell. JM gets free from some loosely tied ropes and bashes him on the head, escaping.

Willy tries to hold on to his hurt feelings, but Samantha quickly seduces him.

EV is putting Laura into a car to take her to town. Fabiola sneaks into the back of the SUV while Laura is being blindfolded.

Miggy is on the floor of his cell with foam coming out of his mouth. The guard leans over him, saying they went too far. Miggy, of course, is faking once more and chokes out the guy and gets out of his cell.

Gael tells D8D he needs that money right now. He says the plan worked; Willy is furious, showing his face as evidence. D8D laughs and says he’ll give him the money after he presses charges against Willy for assault and shows up at a hearing tomorrow saying he’s Sam’s lover.

Camilo and Clara talk a bit about how risky things are, and then start to get it on anyway. Despite knowing the risks, they don’t lock the door and Rod peeks in and sees them.

Gus is hanging by his hands after the whipping by the Reptile. EV punches him saying it’s for María. The usual, I guess. Who sleeps with the king can never sleep with anyone else.

Canario tells the Reptile that Ángela killed his brother. She tells him they’ll have to have their revenge.

We see JM running through some trees and emerging in the town where EV’s guys are leaving Laura. We see FF slipping out of the back of the vehicle and getting away.

EV has realized FF is gone. He tells his guys he wants her back – alive! No one is to touch her. We also see Miggy sneaking out of the police station.

FF steals a cell phone from a couple having dinner and runs away on her 6-inch heels. But she’s grabbed up pretty quickly and before she can make a call. It looks like the police got her for the cell phone theft, not EV’s guys. But it’s probably the same thing.

Corazon Valiente -

great recap novelera !!!
all three parts!

it seems the number of people arriving in Colombia has seriously backlogged the torture time in Verdugo's dungeon, he is even sending some back unharmed, they should show princess Jessica walking around listening to her Ipod so she can't hear the screams.

Miggy is my hero, no matter how beaten down he is, he still has one more punch/kick, Fabiola (as well as Sonya) really picked the right guy.

good to see the girls back in action, Angela and Sammi,

I was so happy to see JM get away,
so now he won't have to lose all of his money again,

why is Dummy Duval in an action/adventure story anyway,
he should be working at the DMV.

I can really see Rodrigo sneaking around in one of those corner porno stores, what a strange character, he reminds me of one of those animals that hang around the lions, bears and such so that when they finish eating, he can run in and steal a bite, something like Igor and dr. Frankenstein, I guess the bad guys need their sidekicks too.

Jody, I love El Secretario. I am so glad that you watch it too. What espisode are you on? Sometimes my tv acts up and I can't get it. I've been watching the Arabic version on youtube. Right now I'm on episode 28.

Jody, I think they've changed the Arabic (english translations) version to make it cleaner. Somethings that they say don't make a lot of sense. Did you all recap every episode of El Secretario so that I can go back and read what I missed?

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Great recap, Novelera! I was sort of hoping Laura would tell FF that Laura spent the entire night with EV, so FF would know EV didn't spend it with HER, but if this ever happens, it'll be way in the future (probably after we skip ahead awhile to let FF's pregnancy progress).

EV always says he's a man of his word, which implies he's honest. But of course he lied to FF, he's lying to Jessica, he lies all the time. And he makes all sorts of promises he doesn't keep. He's just a big blowhard. It's hard to believe that the Reptile, who is an even bigger control freak, let's him boss her around. One day those two are going to really get into a fight, and could end up taking down each other.

Canario wants revenge against Angela for shooting his brother. Well, the guy was kidnapping a child!

I guess Gael doesn't really have such rich and powerful relatives, or they'd help him out with his money jam. He'll probably do just what D8D said, file a complaint against Willy for assault, and say he's Sam's lover. Which probably won't work, except for the fact that Duvall will believe every word.

CORAZON VALIENTE

Thanks novelera, for another excellent recap.

deb and Hombre, I always enjoy your great comments :)

Verdugo's abuses makes me really angry. Sadly it seems that they will catch FF again. It will be even worse when FF finds out about her pregnancy.

Pablo Escobar: viernes

It's actually hard for me to come up with words for this show. It's a fascinating watch, but it's kind of a rough one since it's based not too distantly on actual people and actual events. Which means there was an actual Peraza, or an analogue, who may well have blown off the actual Ana Maria Cano over her fears about an attack on El Espectador (in its way, in-show, the longest-running adversary of Pablo's--even over the government) in the wake of the murders of Luis Galan and Colonel Quintana. That thought actually made me mad watching this episode, even more so than the incompetent Tomas and his whatever he was doing right after Galan was shot. (And the arrests being almost for show, from the sound of it, really doesn't help Peraza's case here either.)

El rostro de la venganza:

I'm going to guess that the general lack of comments on this show is basically a statement: "What the hell is going on with this show?" :) I'm guessing the whole Elizabeth Gutierrez/Marlene Favela thing threw the writers for a loop, since the show's been in some sort of twisted holding pattern up until recently. And that said, even I'm just kind of shaking my head at the stuff they finally have gotten around to explaining--really, it's almost like La casa de al lado redux:

1. Luciano is apparently the real Monster Child, and Ezequiel convinced the parents of the survivors (and D-Mart's parents) to submit their kids for electroshock therapy to conceal this fact.
2. Mariana is marrying Ezequiel basically for the money/perks.
3. Alex cheated on Natalia with Carolina at some point (and this is where I go "Wait, didn't they sleep with each other on Corazon apasionado as well?").
4. Diana is in love with Luciano, who still thinks she's "Sofia Reyes."
5. Luciano is a hot mess.
6. Luciano and Katherina's mother, Laura, faked her death fifteen years ago with the help of Valeria whatsherface to escape from Ezequiel.

Coming after Escobar, though...I think I'm largely just watching this show for the Pretty...

PABLO ESCOBAR -- viernes

As Bill C. points out, it's hard to write about this show with its thinly fictionalized version of real-world horror. We are hammered again and again with the vision of the harm that can be done by a relatively small number of human beings unhampered by any moral limits and driven by greed, aggression, a hunger for power and a delusional sense of self-importance. So I'm particularly grateful to Hombre for taking on the task of making sense of each episode for us.

When Pablo tells Paty that delante de mis hijos, "I'm not a murderer", I understood him to mean something like "I swear on my children, I'm not a murderer." But I like your interpretation better, Hombre -- "in the eyes of my children".

Hombre, thanks again for this and all of your recaps, each one well-written and insightful.

EL ROSTRO DE LA VENGANZA -- viernes

Actually, I think the lack of comments is due to the lack of recaps. If someone were posting daily summaries, I suspect a lot of folks would be chiming in.

This is a lightweight show but it's fun and attractive. On Friday, I was thinking it was looking more and more like a graphic novel. I wouldn't have been surprised to see speech and thought bubbles coming out of the characters heads.

Hey Bill C., I know that Luciano is now in the spotlight as a candidate for el niño monstruo, but I don't think we KNOW that he is guilty. In fact, there have been hints that silly little Marcos may have been involved. I suspect the writers will keep us guessing for a good while.

More evidence that Diego is Ezequiel's son -- Katherina throws herself at Diego and he insists he just can't see her "that way". (He must somehow intuit that she is his sister.)

So now we know that Grannie Alvarado made her living as a hooker. Whoa. So much for snooty Grannie.

And we also know that Luciano was aware that his mother was alive because he had hired a private investigator to track her down five years ago. Does Ezequiel know? Perhaps not.

This is the kind of silly, low-budget mystery show that Telemundo can stretch out, adding and killing off characters well beyond the limits of the plausible as long as we continue watching. Sort of like American soaps, no?

Pablo Escobar -

yes, yes, NovelaMaven, when you said,
"I'm particularly grateful to Hombre for taking on the task of making sense of each episode for us."

I think at least half of what I'm getting out of this novela comes from Master Hombre's summaries,
thanks so much Hombre !!!

EL ROSTRO DE LA VENGANZA

thanks Bill C, and NovelaMaven for the minicap.

I'm still watching, but my heart's not as into it as before. I want Diego to move on and upward already.

EL SECRETARIO --

Cynderella, the episode I recapped was #59. I think this was my fourth recap for this telenovela.

Telemundo is airing this telenovela at an odd time of day for me. Sometimes I miss watching an episode because I'm busy.

I try to at least recap one episode per week and post it here in the "El Mundo de Telemundo" topic as well as on telenovela-world's el secretario forum.

BASEBALL

Sorry, guys. It's impossible to miss a chance to express my joy. THE GIANTS WIN THE WORLD SERIES IN A SWEEP!!

I'm also glad they did it so quickly! I need my life back. I've been watching every single game - the regular season runup to the division title, the nail biting come from behind division and pennant series, and lastly the cherry on the sundae - the World Series.

After the game, I caught up on Pablo Escobar and hope to comment after I've read through Hombre's recaps. I hadn't watched all week.

At least someone's happy about the World Series. :) I was really, really hoping the Tigers would be a bit more...there?...especially after they dusted the Yankees. Ah, well.

Speaking of Escobar, though: I understand that the song El Guerrero was originally done as a salsa-type track in 2003, but does anybody know offhand if the version used in the show was done just for the show or actually released anywhere?

PABLO ESCOBAR:

Thanks to all those who've appreciated my efforts. Since Hurricane Sandy is just about to hit my area, I may lose power, and recaps could be delayed. But I'll catch up when I can.

Novelera, congratulations on your Giants winning the World Series!

HURRICANE SANDY

Stay safe, Hombre, Jean and others in the path of the storm. Check in with us when you can so we know you're ok!

Congrats on your Giants, Novelera!

PABLO ESCOBAR

I echo NovelaMaven's hopes that Hombre, Jean, and any other Carayers in the path of the storm stay safe, damage free, and don't lose power.

Watching 5 in a row really amps up the anxiety on this novela. Of course, we knew that Galán would be murdered. But the practically minute by minute exposition of how it went down, interspersed with real videos of the crowds and Galán were amazing to watch.

Are they going to clear up what was going on with Tomás? At one point I thought they were hinting that it might have been Sebastián who was the paid-off part of Galán's security detail.

Every move that Tomás (forgot his last name) made was loaded with suspicion. Wanting a bulletproof vest for himself. Blatant incompetence in protecting Galán. Seemingly insisting on moves that increased Galán's risk. A very suspicious looking post-assassination phone call.

Hombre, you cleared up something I didn't understand. You said that Galán was shot in the groin. I couldn't figure out how he died wearing that vest. I was even wondering if somehow Tomás gave him a vest that would not work.

I loved the scene where Fabio gets in his sister's face and forces her to face the truth about Escobar and what he's done. I also thought the one with Enelia, Pablo, and the soup was well acted by the two of them.

I suppose there must be some basis for Pablo's stomach problems shown in the novela. It hasn't been mentioned in the book "Killing Pablo" so far. The book does state clearly that assassinating Galán was the beginning of the end for Pablo.

I'm looking forward to seeing if events subsequent to Galan's assassination follow closely what the book described.

I was surprised at how Gonzalo, previously a voice of reason to Escobar, appeared in last week's episodes to be completely on board with Escobar's actions.

PABLO ESCOBAR

Whoops! Hombre, I forgot to thank you wholeheartedly for your first rate recaps in my previous comment. They add a lot to my enjoyment of the show.

Hurricane Sandy:

The power of this storm is truly amazing. The wind has just been howling for hours.
I still have power, internet and cable but I don't know for how much longer.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – LUNES – Part 1

Rats! Both Miggy and FF are caught and handcuffed.

The Reptile advises El Verdugo to kill Fabiola to get the monkey off his back. He replies “Never” and that he’d kill anyone who messed with her.

Camilo hears something and notices their door is ajar. He locks the door but, alas, too late. He and Clara then have a quite charming scene declaring their love.

Miggy tells the furious police guard that he got the drop on that he’s not El Masías, as he very well knows.

Laura’s phone in her hotel room doesn’t work, doubtless another plan of EV. Someone knocks. At first she doesn’t see him; but it’s JM. She’s stunned to see him, and just then we see Angie in Los Angeles saying to Sam that she’s hoping against hope that JM is alive.

Nora calls Willy from Colombia saying she’s OK. Just then Ringo comes up saying that EV has graciously invited her to his house. This guy’s permanently affixed smirk is getting on my last nerve.

D8D gives further instructions to Gael, along with a portion of his 30 pieces of silver. He’s to say Sam has been deceiving Willy with him for a long time and that Willy is violent. When Gael suggests Willy might really kill him, D8D laughs dismissively saying his son wouldn’t kill a fly.

Disgusting Rod leers at Clara, asking if she had a good time. He offers to keep quiet if she has sex with him. He gets a good, satisfying slap for his trouble. She tells him he’ll have the deaths of her and of Luis on his conscience if he tells D8D.

EV tells the Reptile that her mother is close by. She tells him she doesn’t know if her mother loves her. She comes on to EV, and they appear ready for some rough sex when his cell rings. He’s found out that Fabiola is caught. I think the Reptile is out of luck.

When the smirking guard won’t let her go, FF kicks him in the gonads and then bashes the other with her handcuffs. A third guy holds a gun on her. She yells that she knows they can’t kill her. Miggy hears her voice from his cell. When they take her by his cell, they kiss.

Ángela comes to beg D8D to tell her if he knows about JM being alive and what happened to Miggy and Gus. He tells her he doesn’t have a heart.

In the jail Miggy explains how they framed him. She says she’ll do what she can to free him. He begs her forgiveness for not having saved her from that monster. Said monster appears, right on cue, to tell Miggy about the ex-quis-ite night of passion he had with FF.

Clara shows up at Willy and Sam’s house and tells them she’s left D8D and can she stay. Luz smiles at Willy. Sam assures Clara she can stay. Sam and Willy want to sleep with Luz.

JM tells Laura that, if the Reptile knows he’s alive, then she’ll go after Ángela and his children. He says he can’t figure out how she could have a child with a guy like EV. She says he can be seductive and marvelous.

In the jail Fabiola asks EV to free Miggy. He says he only promised to let him live. [I’m pretty sure he did promise to let him go free.] As FF and EV leave, Miggy shouts that he’ll find her and rescue her. She begs him not to believe what he sees. Her heart is his. She also promises to free him.

Ángela tells D8D that someday he’s going to beg mercy from her. He laughs at her. I HOPE this is foreshadowing.

Rod tells D8D that Clara left with the baby. His eyes bug out in rage. He asks Rod what happened. Rod only says that they were arguing.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – LUNES – Part 2

Clara tells Sam and Willy that she fell in love with another man and that’s why she left. She tells them the man is Luis Martinez.

Ringo brings Nora to the Reptile. She smells her! She tells Nora she doesn’t want to be called Fernanda. In Colombia she’s Doña Victoria and she is a saint for the locals, who love her.

EV brings Fabiola to the room full of corny rose petals and shows her some gifts. She tells him let’s cut to the chase. I’ll do whatever you ask, but let Miguel go. What he asks is that she marry him. She agrees. He says he’ll let her rest tonight.

In the jail cell Miggy tortures himself, remembering EV’s words about his night of passion with FF.

Clara says she knows Luis is a bad guy, but there’s something so sweet and tender about him. Sam says that someday he’ll tell her the whole story. Willy says she should trust her feelings.

Pegleg calls Ángela about the ransom. Aha, he’s planning to get the money even though he has no prisoner to free! Génesis overhears that her father may be alive.

Ringo and Canario come to torture Gus for what Ángela did to Canario’s brother.

Laura tells JM she’ll take him to the US Embassy in Bogota. She can hide him in the SUV she says EV made available for her. But then she’s going to return to save Gus.

Valentín is being released from the hospital. Willy holds Luz and Sam Valentín. They pull Nico close and are overjoyed they’ll all be together.

The sleazy looking lawyer Orozco shows up to see Miggy. Something about his making a declaration. Miggy says he’ll never say anything about being this narco.

The Reptile tells Nora she doesn’t need any help. Her life is great. Jessica comes rushing in to see Nora. Jessica whispers to Nora asking if she can free Gus.

Duval comes to tell Ángela that Laura called from Bogotá to say that the Reptile has Gus.

EV discusses some plan with Ringo concerning Miggy and wants to know the exact hour. Ringo asks if he’s sure about marrying FF.

D8D sulks. Rod says the reason she left is that she has a lover. D8D grabs him. He says women don’t cheat on men like him. They cheat on losers and drunks, like Rod. Rod jumps up and blurts out that he’s wrong. Luis is Clara’s lover. D8D asks Luis if he knows that this could cost him his life. He strikes him with the cane and then pulls a gun. Camilo says he loves Clara.

The wedding of FF and EV is going to be in a week. Crazy EV raves on and on about the wedding. [Why doesn’t FF tell him she wants a picture of Miguel next to Dodger Stadium before any wedding takes place?]

The Reptile gets jealous about Nora and Jessica. She tells Jessica she has her mother and her father; Nora is hers. Nora asks if the Reptile has Gus. When she says she does, Nora tells her that Gus helped her when she escaped from prison. The Reptile asks what she’s prepared to do for him.

Laura and JM are at the airport. Ángela calls her on her cell, and Laura tells JM he needs to let his family know he’s alive.

The cops are dragging Miggy off to make a declaration. EV pulls up in an SUV with FF. She runs toward Miggy. EV tells him about the wedding plans.

Two guys on a motorcycle grab Luz and knock Clara down.

i have a question, is corazon valiente going to come on channel 47 @ 9 today becuase i tried to watch it yesterday at the same time and it was only the hurricane news in spanish please if anyone know what channel and time its going to come on today let me know.Thank u and be safe!

PABLO ESCOBAR, Lunes

My tv was intermittently cutting out due to Hurricane Sandy, so if I got something wrong, feel free to correct it. But we were fortunate and never lost power. Things are much calmer today, although the Mayor of Baltimore won't allow traffic in the City until noon. Overall, I think the damage was less than forecast here. So let's see what happened with Mr. Odious, Pablo Escobar.

Wanted posters are put up. The innocent prisoners discuss what to do about their situation. One guy seems to be the leader. His name is Favriata, or Favrita.

Ana Maria talks to Niki about the cavalier attitude of Peraza on the issue of security for the newspaper. The two commiserate.

We see the sicarios packing lots of dynamite into the hood of a jeep.

Colonel Fernandez talks to Favrita. You're a pharmacist, a chemist, right? Yes. So you know how to make cocaine, right? Well, I guess so, I took a course in school in extracting things. Thanks, that's all I needed to know. They send him back to his cell.

Saltorini and Cesar Garvriria meet. Saltorini says no 16 year old is going to choose the President. Saltorini says forget the popular vote, the candidate should be chosen by consensus of the party leaders. Cesar says I'm not going along with that.

Gloria and Juan Manuel talk about the same thing. The boy added that part about Cesar to the written speech. They both agree he'd be good, but know that it depends on whether the popular vote will decide, and whether Luis's votes can go to Cesar. Gloria says Peraza says they caught the killers. So soon? asks Juan Manuel.

Favriata is put in a line up for someone who was seen in the plaza. Two people do actually pick him, but they may have been coached. Ulloa tells the President we're getting close.

Ana Maria talks to her sons in Spain. They're coming back, although she's opposed to that.

Favrita talks to the other prisoners, they've got to let us go. Guards show up, and all the prisoners are escorted out. It's about time, they say. Fernandez holds a press conference, all the motley crew of prisoners are brought in. Fernandez announces, ladies and gentlemen, these are the killers of Luis Carlos Galan! Yeah, right.

Gloria and Cesar talk. She's leaving the country. She hopes he carries on her husband's dream, and begs him to be careful.

Pablo and Fabio are talking. Fabio, what do you think of hitting El Espectador? What do I think? You don't care what I think. You've already made up your mind. Why ask? Oh, Fabio, you're just mad at me from before, I really want to know what you think. Fine, I think you've dumped on me and Peluche, that's what I think. Pablo replies well you didn't have to spill things to my wife. I didn't specifically say anything, just told her I was upset, replies Fabio. Well, you were wrong, says Pedro smugly, because you know what? The government just announced they found the real killers! Hah!

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Thanks for the recap, Novelera. My cable was cutting in and out, so I missed a lot. I see that Sam and Willy had their 3 kids together. And that didn't even last until the end of the episode. Oh well.

Again we see that FF may never have to actually sleep with EV. That night she was drunk she didn't, and now he's let her rest before the wedding. Early in the episode, I did catch a speech where EV told the Reptile that SHE had to use force and guns to get JM to love her, but HE (EV) only had to use his charm. Really? He's not using force and guns? Get a clue, El Verdu!

Hurricane Sandy

Hombre, I'm glad to know you weren't hit that hard by the storm.

Jean, it was good to hear from you last night. Keep us posted when you can so we know you are safe.

PABLO ESCOBAR -- lunes

Your tv reception may have been cutting in and out but it seems to me you nailed this episode, Hombre. Thanks so much.

This was all about scapegoats (chivos expiatorios). That poor chemical engineer didn't even KNOW the street word for cocaine. And then his earnest correction -- you don't COOK cocaine, you EXTRACT it -- gets thrown back at him as proof: See! You have the skills so you must be guilty!

I wonder if those people who identified the chemist DID in fact see him in the plaza. Why not? There were lots of people there. Doesn't mean diddly.

Hurricane Sandy

Hi all: I am safe and sound with power, TV and internet (thank you underground power lines for the first one and Verizon FIOS for the last two). The rest of my family who live in the NE are fine also and we all have power. In the Trenton/Princeton area where I live, most of the damage is from fallen trees and many, many people do not have power. I feel very lucky to have escaped so lightly from both Hurricane Irene last year and Hurricane/Monster Storm Sandy this year.

Hurricane Sandy

Whew! Jean, I'm relieved to hear that you and yours are safe. Thanks for checking in with us!

Ay -- lots of folks will be recovering very slowly, it seems. What a nightmare of a storm.

Glad to see y'all are okay, Hombre and Jean...no thanks to you, Sandy...

Pablo Escobar: lunes

Between some odd feed-level signal issues and CC3 I wasn't completely certain I understood what was going on up until the parade of show arrests at the end of this episode, but that...wow. I guess the National Police had to look like they were doing something under the circumstances, but it came off as a sort of willful incompetence.

And Pablo deciding, in his Hitler-esque way, to go ahead and hit El Espectador in the wake of this...yeah, rough watch...

Hurricane Sandy

It's great to hear that both Hombre and Jean are doing well. For the first time in days the front page of the San Francisco Chronicle was NOT about the Giants. It was about this terrible storm in the Northeast.

I get all my news from the newspaper and never watch television news, so I read that way that both campaigns are suspending activities because of the storm. I was amazed at that!

PABLO ESCOBAR

Thanks so much, Hombre. I could not believe what happened last night. It is a bit fuzzy and confusing insofar as I could not tell who really ordered the innocent guys arrested. This must be painful for Colombians to watch. What an outrage!

I think that meeting with what they called precandidates was about suspending some kind of normal procedure. I gathered that normally a good sized committee of the members of the respective parties would meet to select their candidate for the presidency. Santorini's plan was to only have the people already running continue to run, freezing out Galán's faction because he's dead. He was unwilling to have Gaviria run, of course, because he's afraid he'd win!

Thanks, deb. I'm still verklempt over Telemundo trying to sell us Aracely Arambula as a coal miner, but it's too late now...

What really interests me is the writer, who apparently was also responsible for Dona Barbara, Sin verguenza and apparently part of La Reina del Sur. Can she make Aracely...interesting?

El Rostro de la Venganza: lunes

- Carolina and Mariana open the episode bonding over wine and Mariana's impending marriage to Ezequiel. Mariana admits that she's having doubts about the whole thing thanks to "another man," D-Mart, whom she basically describes as something out of a Harlequin romance novel ("so ignorant, wild and strange," "the last man I thought I'd end up with," and "unpredictable and mysterious...but with so much love to give"--and this is where I'm just going "Oh, God, shut uuuuup!"). Carolina mmhmms, and declares that she in turn is falling for an unexpected man of her own: Alex Maldonado, former class nerd. (I really should have seen that coming.)

Alex, meanwhile, is trying and failing to get busy with Natalia in bed. Natalia's still frustrated that he cheated on her with Carolina, the former prettiest girl in school turned model, which is doing wonders for her self-esteem. (I'm admittedly fuzzy on this, but as I understand it Alex has never slept with Natalia--blaming part if not all of it on trauma dating back to the whole Monster Child thing. Yeah, that'd do it.) Alex admits that what he did was wrong, but then goes right down the path of all flawed TV boyfriends by following that up with "I love you" rather than an apology. Natalia's response: "I want a divorce."

The next day, Alex comes home with some flowers and another attempt to get back on track with his wife--complete with a "You complete me" (oh, lord) thrown in. Natalia, for her part, isn't mad...just sad, and resigned to the fact that they're not exactly man and wife, but more "best friends."

- Luciano, who's still freaked out over what his dad told him, shows up at Grandma Manuela's demanding to talk to Laura--not his mother, since he "has no mother." Laura astutely notes he sounds just like Ezequiel before Luciano hits her with the big question: "Did I kill those kids? Am I the Monster Child?" Laura swears that he wasn't.

At the same time, Diana runs over to Ezequiel's house and demands that he answer the same question. Eazy-E doesn't exactly answer it, which is typical for him; he tells her that Martin wasn't innocent, and that he told him that he wasn't guilty "in order to protect him" (from what?), but he also tells her that everything is in the past and she needs to move on...with Luciano, of course. Diana declares that she wants him to be clear about this on behalf of her brother, not Luciano, since he may have gone to prison for a crime he never committed; Eazy-E keeps his pimp hand strong and goes "If we're being clear about things, then by now you've told Luciano that you're not really Sofia Reyes." (Cynthia Olavarria makes a perfect "Oh, God damn it!" face to punctuate this. A foot stomp would have made it comedy gold.)

- Valeria is winding down her evening being blackmailed by Laura into getting her husband Federico to "help," i.e. hire, Luciano. This is followed by Miguel Angel and his posse coming home and seeing Laura on her way out, which prompts a few "Where have we seen her before...?" musings from him and his friend Penelope; Valeria says that Laura is "a friend," which prompts Miguel Angel to retort "You have friends?" before hitting the minibar and pouring drinks for the posse. And this is where I wonder if I need to start referring to him and the posse as this show's Team Douchebag...

El Rostro de la Venganza: lunes (p. 2)

Valeria is true to her word, though, and the next morning she's in Federico's rather awesome Bond-villain office/lair (with a giant clock face on one wall), trying to get him to hire Luciano. Federico isn't having it since Miguel Angel is already all over Katerina and wants her to move in with them, on top of his not trusting Luciano at all...all that would be left at that point, according to him, would be for him to "pay child support for Ezequiel's third child."

- Marcos is feeling pretty good today, this being after his first full day without a drink (though he's briefly tempted by the big-ass decanter of whatever liquor Eazy-E keeps on his minibar). After briefly talking to Grandma Eliana about her suspicions that Diana/Sofia might be cheating on Luciano thanks to her visit the previous night (which pretty much goes "Stay out of it, abuela") he goes to work and straight to Ezequiel's office, wanting to celebrate his newfound sobriety. Eazy-E shuts him the hell down, saying "Come back when you've been sober for two years. I've got work to do." Way to be a supportive dad there, Eazy-E. Marcos, kicked puppy that he is, slinks out of the office--but grabs a bottle of liquor and a glass from a cabinet (damn, maybe Eazy-E should be going to AA) and declares that he's going to "celebrate on his own."

- And D-Mart spends his morning trying to talk down Katerina, who's backed off the full court press but still trying to make her move on him--clad in only a towel. Not only does she want to sleep with him, but since she's a virgin (David Chocarro made a pretty good "Wait, what?" face to punctuate this) she wants him to be her first time. That cues a flashback to D-Mart's first time, with Antonia, and he in turn gently shuts Katerina down in the name of her needing to be "taught" for her first time, which she's perfectly happy with--as long as he's the teacher.

Later, D-Mart gets picked up by Omar and Juanito on his way to work. They make a detour to Juanito's school, where D-Mart shows off his mad Rubik skills (this time with a Megaminx) for Juanito and some of his classmates. Afterwards, Omar--after mentioning Juanito being "just like his uncle"--notes that his parents are always really messed up after he drops by for a "chat." D-Mart cautiously responds that perhaps they don't like him as much as Juanito does; Omar follows that up by saying that perhaps they're still hurt by "what they did to him" and openly asks him: are you really my brother, Diego Mercader?

EL ROSTRO

Thanks, Bill, for your recaps. I can't read them yet because I'm a week behind on this one. I'll try to catch up soon.

EL ROSTRO

Bill C, this is great! Thanks so much.

You got it right about Alex and Natalia. Their marriage has never been consummated despite their great affection for one another. It took Carolina Pinto as Alex's unwitting "sex therapist" to get the ball rolling, as it were.

When Miggy was wearing the narco shirt he looked a lot like Gato Fierros. Gregorio pernia always seems to be a Villian The first novela i saw was SSNHP where he was El Titi. Wish someone wouldve recaped DONDE ESTA ELISA when it first aired.

La Patrona

Deb,

Thanks so much for the info. The show might be interesting
...

i have a question, is corazon valiente going to come on channel 47 @ 9 today becuase i tried to watch it yesterday at the same time and it was only the hurricane news in spanish please if anyone know what channel and time its going to come on today let me know.

janae101, there is a bit of a problem with your question.

We watch Corazón Valiente from coast to coast. Some watch it on regular broadcast tv, some on cable, and some on a satellite dish.

I, at least, don't watch the show on Ch. 47, and don't know if it will be on there tonight.

It was on at its normal time on DirecTV in California.

Sorry I can't help you out.

thank you it came back on i didnt know but i really appreciate your reply

PABLO ESCOBAR, Miércoles, Part 1

9/1/89, Bogotá. Fernando Cano is back. (I didn't see JuanGui, maybe he stayed in Spain). Fernando talks to little brother Camilo at the paper, we're going to keep up our work, our mission.

Colonel Pabon is heading a night mission with lots of police. Cut to Topo, driving a bomb car. Back to the anti-explosive unit, their intelligence says there's a bomb in a bus at a warehouse. They find the warehouse, force their way in, yell for people to put their hands up, but nobody's there. They see a bus. A guy in a thick anti bomb suit goes on the bus. But what does he find? A red balloon! It's clear the bad guys set them up. They must be bombing somewhere else.

9/2/89, 6:00 A.M. The nice cleaning lady is cleaning El Espectador, when BOOOM!!! Desks go flying, glass is everywhere, typewriters onto the floor.

Inside the jail, the innocent patsies hear it. They hear police and ambulances. They hear helicopters. Ana Maria wakes up Fernando, they've bombed the paper, we have to check it out. Peraza is at the paper, telling Ana Maria he's sorry, but how could he have anticipated it. I TOLD you! Well, sorry, we were concentrating in Medellín, and you're in Bogotá. But we were getting close. And only two people were injured, just a cleaning lady and another guy. A cleaning lady? Ana Maria knows who that was.

It turns out Peraza was wrong, 40 people got injured, 10 vehicles were destroyed, several surrounding buildings also had damage. There are 2 or 3 serious injuries, but no deaths. The radio reporter stresses that these figures are “according to the official report”, showing some skepticism.

Pablo's up early, tells Fabio he wants to hear the news about that newspaper. Fabio says “so you finally did it.” Pablo just smiles. You know what, Fabio? I still haven't “done” a journalist. We're not sure if he means killed or had sex with (I think it's the latter), but it's horrifying either way. You know that famous volleyball player, Maria? Get her for me. But Pablo, I'm your brother in law. Well, just don't tell Paty, says Mr. Sensitive Pablo.

PABLO ESCOBAR Part 2

The President and Ulloa visit El Espectador. They tell Ana Maria we're really strongly pursuing Escobar and the cartel now. Well, if they can do this when you're strongly pursuing them, think how much they could do if they weren't being harassed!

Aguirre tells Pabon, we're tracing every call which contains the words Escobar, Pablo, or patron. And we've been able to filter them out. Listen to this one. He plays a tape. It's Fabio, talking to the coach of Maria, a famous volleyball player. Fabio tells the coach something like get Maria, coach. The army guys hear balls in the background, basketballs or volleyballs, and they hear the words coach and Maria. They're going to check out every team in the Medellín area for Marias. And THIS time, they're keeping the operation quiet, just between them (Finally!).

We then see the coach approach Maria, tell her, you know those guys from the other day? Yeah. Well, they want to meet you. I don't know, this is a little strange. Would 10 million pesos change your mind? 10 million? Yes, that's more than the girls on the national team make. She's interested.

At El Espectador, the debris is being cleaned up. Niki tells Ana Maria that the other papers are going to lend some of their presses, in solidarity. Ana Maria wishes they had shown more solidarity earlier. But is our equipment okay? Can we print? The phone rings, and Fernando tells the workers, Yes, our newspaper will be in print tomorrow!

Next time: Can the police FINALLY get an operation right? Please!!!

PABLO ESCOBAR:

He didn't say I haven't done a journalist, he said I havent' done a lady athlete. Whoops (deportista).

Hurricane Sandy -- Thank you Hombre and Jean for the notes. Glad to hear you made it through the storm salvo y sano.

La Patrona -- Thank you Deb for the press release info. Can't picture Aracely Arambula as a coal miner.

El Secretario - Thursday, Oct. 31:

Valentina is upset again. On the bus, Daddy Emilio is sitting right next to her and talking on the phone with Dona Trudy. He asks her if she would babysit this afternoon so he can get back to work? Dona Trudy is very happy to babysit for him, she just adores his little daughter Valentina. Emilio thinks everything is all set. Unfortunately, as soon as she hangs up the phone, Dona Trudy looks at her large pink flowered suitcase and remembers she has to get to the airport. She picks up her coat, hat and runs out of her apartment rolling her suitcase behind her.

Paola is at Copito Industries talking with Toni and Mario. She walks out of the office space with Mario and annoys him as they get on the elevator. The elevator opens - Mario is very nervous and tells the people waiting to get on to go use the stairs as he pushed the button for the the doors to close again.

Conde's buddies/co-workers badger him about Millie. Conde tells them to buzz off, this is a personal private matter and is nothing for them to gossip about. Millie returns to the office in tears and Conde gives her a big consoling hug -- in front of his buddies.

Em and Valentina are in his apartment. She forgives him for making her cry as he puts on her shoes. They head over to Dona Trudy's apartment. Knock at the door, but nobody answers. Em is puzzled, where could she be?

Dona Trudy is out walking along the street, and hails a taxicab to take her to somewhere.

Jaime, the corporate lawyer, sits with Felix at the jail - he tells Felix that Toni is back at work and is totally on his side. Later Jaime is talking with the DA Sra. Fiscal about the case against Felix.

The ladies try to comfort Millie. She lost custody of her son, Sebastian, and only got visitation. Yessie makes a comment that she is happy not to be a mother - no attachment. Olga and the others laugh at her. Conde promises to help her anyway he can also. Millie yells at him to stay away from her -- he's the reason why she lost custody and storms away.

Episode ends with Em bringing Valentina to work. The security guard wouldn't let him in - no kids at work rule. Em has the security guard call Toni -- Toni breaks the rule and lets Em bring Valentina up to the office, with Yessy and the elder secretary are all too happy to care for the little princess. Olga is upset/jealous again.

Pablo Escobar:

I think I spent most of this episode wishing someone, anyone, would just get up and smack the taste completely out of either Pablo's mouth or Colonel Peraza's. Maybe more so Peraza, amazingly (not that Pablo randomly deciding to "get" and boink an athlete the way most folks decide to buy a cheesy novel wasn't just...ugh), but at this point this version of him is about as frustrating as Lucrecia Curiel from La fuerza del destino--only with added incompetence.

Is anybody else having such a visceral reaction to this show? :/

CORAZÓN VALIENTE

Jean, I'm wondering if you lost power last night and we'll have no recap.

If I don't hear from you, I'll try to search the old memory banks and post something to get the ball rolling.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE

OK, briefly.

Clara was muy mal in the hospital, but of course released either the same day or the next. It appears D8D was the one who had Luz kidnapped and Clara knocked down. The baby then appears at the Arroyo house in a basket on the front door. This is to make it look as if Sam and Willy did it.

Gael has made his rotten statement that he is Sam's lover.

D8D has decided to send Camilo to Colombia to join El Verdugo's ever expanding household. Before they drag him away, he whispers in Clara's ear that he is Camilo and she should get the whole story from Sam.

D8D says he forgives Clara and they will be together. She stands there like a deer in the headlights. So she's going to live with the psychopath?

In Colombia EV tells Ringo he has gotten 2 pills from the doctor: one will end her pregnancy and the other will make it stay there. We don't see which one he gives her. In no-abortion telenovelaland, there's no suspense, at least not for me.

Fabiola pretends to have a desire for EV in order to get her hands on a huge gun he conveniently has been playing with in his bedroom. She gets him on his back with his eyes closed and then points the gun at his head. He asks if she's going to kill him and he replies "yes".

Pegleg is found out. He's tied up by his hands. [Gus must be glad to not be tied up that way.] He finally admits his plan to get the ransom money and that JM escaped from him. EV shoots him dead. But the Reptile overhears that JM is in LA.

JM has decided to hide out in Gus' house. But Ángela and Génesis show up to "check messages". Angie hears a noise in the kitchen and he pops up, putting a hand over her mouth.

That's all I remember.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE

Duh! He asks if she's going to kill him and SHE replies "yes".

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Good job, Novelera. One other thing I remember is that Nora and Rosario apparently know each other from long ago, and are shocked to see each other.

I still can't figure out why JM doesn't want people to know he's alive. It must be one of his "ideas".

El Rostro de la Venganza: martes

I have no idea why they do this, but Telemundo's CC3 for this show keeps referring to its title as Facing Destiny. The only destiny I'm seeing in this show is the equivalent of an airliner stuck in a holding pattern over a busy airport, though I suppose they're finally starting to elaborate on various points...

- Picking up from the end of Monday's episode, D-Mart is trying to swerve Omar away from his conviction that he's really his brother. This lasts about one minute and one more mention of their parents from Omar before he gives in and admits that he is, or rather was, Diego Mercader...but he's a new man now, and he's trying to move on with his life. (Assuming CC3 was literal, D-Mart actually said he was "starting to enjoy it." Bad choice of words.) Omar isn't crazy about this, since he killed seven children and all, but D-Mart responds that he did spend twenty years in prison for the crime--even if he didn't remember doing it, or why--while Omar was celebrating birthdays and Christmases with his family. So Omar grudgingly accepts this, but asks that D-Mart stay away from the family to avoid hurting his parents any more and, more importantly, so Juanito won't find out who he is; D-Mart just as grudgingly accepts, and on that cue gets out of the cab and goes to work.

When he gets there, D-Mart finds a grumpy and slightly drunk Marcos waiting in his office. Marcos declares, as all good truth-telling alkies do (it's a trope of some kind, I'm sure) that he is "invisible" to his father and can't compare in his eyes to either Luciano or D-Mart; he has thus decided to help D-Mart succeed at his new position, partially to show his father he's valuable in his own right and partially as a big old middle finger in Luciano's face.

- Katerina, Miguel Angel, and Penelope are relaxing at D-Mart's loft. More accurately, Miguel Angel is jacking one of D-Mart's beers (okay, how many alcoholics do we have on this show?) and getting a good laugh out of Katerina admitting that she told D-Mart that she was a virgin--which, probably unsurprisingly in retrospect, is a complete lie; Katerina says that since she told him that, "the poor thing feels responsible for me"...which is part of her master plan to get D-Mart into bed.

Penelope avoids being lumped in with what is now officially this show's Team Douchebag for one more episode by innocently stating that lots of girls are virgins at 18, and that's not a bad thing; MA and Katerina immediately jump to the obligatory conclusion that Penelope is still a virgin, and Katerina promises to fix that by letting her "borrow" D-Mart once she's done with him so he can be her first lover. At least in theory Katerichbitch's near-inevitable comeuppance might be more satisfying if I already hate her this much. MA admits that since D-Mart turned her down last night he probably won't surrender to her charms; Katerina agrees, then declares she needs "allies and reinforcements" if her plan is to succeed, and immediately exits for points unknown leaving MA and Penelope in her dust.

It turns out Katerina made a beeline for Mariana's apartment, where Mariana is being measured for her wedding dress. Katerina barges in like the blonde gnat, or perhaps wasp, she is and starts immediately buzzing about how Mariana seems to be taking her wedding seriously and how she needs to swear to Katerina that she did not and never did have any interest in D-Mart, since she's moved in with him and plans to move on (with) him. Mariana looks briefly impactada at this, but claims that Katerina's too young for D-Mart and that Ezequiel wouldn't be happy about her being with him; Katerina's just fine with that, since Ezequiel's marrying Mariana and she doesn't like her in his life either, and flounces out on that note.

El Rostro de la Venganza: martes (p. 2)

- Natalia is busy friending Marcos and Veronica's AA friend Alejandra on some website called Clan Clan (oh, for want of an errant letter H) when Carolina shows up. Carolina's out of sorts because she can't get in touch with Alex, who's not calling her or answering his phone in the wake of her telling Natalia "what he and I have," and she asks if Natalia is involved with him. Natalia barely evades the question via deflection, even after Carolina asks how often she and Alex "hooked up," and asks Carolina in turn if she likes Alex; "Si--mucho, mucho" is Carolina's response, though she's still wondering why he hasn't contacted her. Natalia comments that perhaps he doesn't like her as much as she likes him, which is the opening for Carolina to go "That's not what he said in Miami..." and wax poetic about how Alex, in order,

1. told Carolina she was the most beautiful woman he's ever been with;
2. said that he had wanted to be with her "ever since he was little", and thus
3. called her "his lifelong sexual fantasy." (Oddly, Carolina's face while she was saying this seemed to imply that she was baiting Natalia somehow. That might have been a weird directing choice, though. Either way, that faint thumping noise you hear is me once again banging my head into the wall.)

Natalia, who spends a lot of the scene with her back to Carolina so she can't see the epic hurt/bitchface she's rocking (seriously--damn, Paloma Marquez!), asks halfheartedly if Alex indeed said all that. Carolina, who's apparently reading the same damn Harlequin novel Mariana was, inadvertently finishes throwing Alex under the bus when she declares that his words said a lot "but his kisses and actions said more." For the capper, she mentions that Alex apparently left her early the next morning after their rendezvous, leaving behind a fake phone number (thump, thump, thump).

The only thing that stops Natalia from having a full-on meltdown at this point (especially after Carolina asks her for the second time if Alex is married) is a fortuitously-timed phone call from Alex, who simply advises her to turn on the TV. For this show, that means tuning in to Veronica Baeza's newsmagazine show--where Veronica is announcing the recovery of the body (apparently from some sort of rocky beach/inlet) of the late Jorge Castillo, Antonia's fellow psychologist who died at Ezequiel's hands. Hmmm.

- Luciano is still at Mariana's apartment, where Laura is somberly reliving the aftermath of the Monster Child incident from her perspective; it turns out that she didn't witness the actual shooting, but arrived immediately afterwards when the survivors were still in shock. Luciano initially thinks he remembers seeing Diego Mercader with a gun, which Laura confirms was a picture from the school's security cameras, but then he remembers a snippet of something--someone else, no idea who, taking the gun from Diego and firing it. So he's now thinking Diego wasn't the shooter after all!

El Rostro de la Venganza: martes (p. 3)

After Luciano leaves Laura vents to Mariana about how Ezequiel is subtly torturing his son by telling him this, and decides the time has come for a confrontation. So she gets dolled up (God bless your tall drink of water self, Gabriela Romero) and goes to Eazy-E's house, promptly freaking Grandma Eliana out to where she's still a bit of an impactada mess by the time he gets home from work. Eliana does explain about Laura to Eazy-E, who makes a beeline for his office and looks rather grimly impactado himself upon seeing his alive and undrowned wife.

Laura spends the next scene or two expositing on how she expensively faked being lost at sea and presumed dead (which came complete with the destruction of a yacht, in order to fake out investigators and searchers) to get away from him. Eazy-E, for his part, manages to get through the "No puede ser!" part of this pretty quickly and goes straight to grabby-shaky-pissed: how could she do this to him, let alone her children? Eliana peeks in and manages to stop Eazy-E before he seriously considers either breaking Laura's arms or neck, though when she declares that she came back after being believed dead by everyone for fifteen years (except for Luciano; Laura admits that Luciano did track her down five years ago, but "chose to forget her") to reclaim her life and protect her children he's still visibly pissed at her and wants her to GTFO and never come back. Eliana chips in by calling Laura a hussy, since she cheated on Eazy-E with Professor Farias (the teacher killed in the Monster Child shooting).

Finally, Laura insists that she's trying to protect her kids, much the same way Eliana "threw away her life protecting her little boy" Ezequiel, and demands to know why he told Luciano that whopper of a lie about being the Monster Child. And Eazy-E wraps up the episode by stating that it wasn't a lie--he simply lied to everybody then, including her, and that Luciano indeed is the Monster Child.

Maybe I'm just being overly cynical here, but I couldn't help thinking at this point that there still have to be one or two more twists left with regard to the Monster Child. Mostly driven by the revelation that Laura slept with Professor Farias...Eazy-E's killed two people on the show already and ordered the death of a third, AIUI, so hey...

Corazon Valiente -

thanks so much Novelera !

another little part is Miggy's problems, which are not going away, he has his hearing and the Judge is convinced he is the other guy, his lawyer is no help, and it's back to the cell where he torments himself over the thought of Fabiola marrying eV, but a ray of hope, his new cellmate knows the bad guy and Miggy is definitely not him, but the next morning as Miggy awakes (was he drugged) his cellmate is dead on the floor.

Hombre, I think JM's "idea" is that as long as he is alive, Fernanda will continue to be a menace to his family, and so he doesn't want anyone to know he is alive, (and I don't think he realizes how many people know he is alive)

CORAZÓN VALIENTE

Thanks Hombre and Deb for filling in what I couldn't remember.

Yes, I hope we find out soon how Rosario and Nora know each other. I'll bet it has to do with Nora's being falsely accused of drug trafficking and murder to end up in the penitentiary.

And, Deb, how could I have forgotten about our ray of hope when the cellmate said he'd testify and then turned up dead!

I agree that JM hopes that the Reptile will think him dead and lay off Ángela and the kiddies.

CORAZON VALIENTE-

Sorry for not posting earlier. I didn't lose power. I had to go into work and actually do work instead of writing the recap like I usually do. I've got it about 3/4 done.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – martes – Part 1

EV comes to collect FF from the jail. He tells Miggy that he and FF are getting married. Miggy can’t believe it. EV says that FF asked to marry him. He says cheerily that Miggy is going to jail and he is going to the altar with FF.

Camilo is D8D’s prisoner. D8D tells Camilo that he’s behaved badly and must pay. Then he gets a call about the baby snatch and Clara’s injury.

JM won’t take Angie’s call to Laura.

The Reptile tells Nora that she doesn’t need anything from Nora that is worth Gus’ life. But she says that she will think about in consultation with her cat. Rosario comes in with a tray and drops it in astonishment when she sees Nora.

EV babbles on and on about the wedding to FF. FF tells him that she won’t marry him unless the Miggy is free. EV has the brass ones to say that Miggy’s fate is up to the authorities and he can’t interfere.

Nora tells the Reptile that she and Rosario were really good friends before she went to prison.

Clara is in serious condition in the hospital. Sam is sure that D8D is responsible. She wants to be with Willy at the hospital so she leaves the enormous baby with Angie.

Willy asks Dummy Duval why he doesn’t arrest D8D. Duval says that he doesn’t have any proof (as if that stopped him before).

D8D’s thug drag Camilo out. Rodrigo comes in and asks what is going on. D8D tells him and Rodrigo flashes back to Clara warning him that telling D8D about her relationship with Camilo would make him responsible for two deaths. [Now he remembers this? He didn’t remember when he blabbed to D8D?]

EV wants to take FF to Paris to shop for wedding stuff but she only wants one thing – Miggy’s freedom. EV asks when FF is going to tell him that she loves him. FF gets an abdominal pain.

Miggy is before a judge. He tells the judge that there has been an injustice. He is not Jesus Matamoros. He is Mexican and he can get proof of this.

Sam arrives at the hospital and asks when will all this bad stuff end. Willy replies that only D8D’s death will end it.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – martes – Part 2

D8D shows up and accuses Willy of stealing his baby. Willy behaves like a nut job, which is too bad since Duval has brought a Social Services lady with him. We cut to Angie finding a baby – presumably Luz. D8D puts on his “Mr. Pitiful” routine for the Social Services lady.

Angie calls Sam. Luz was left at the door of JM’s house. Duval says that makes their situation more complicated.

The Judge does not believe Miggy.

EV calls the doctor and hold FF in his arms.

The Reptile tells Gustavo that she has several offers for him. She says that she will treat him better but she has one question – why do all the men fall in love with Angie? [maybe ‘cause she’s the star of the show and you are a villain with a monkey butt?]

Gus tells the Reptile that Angie has what the Reptile lacks – a soul. The Reptile hits him.

Clara wakes up in the hospital and wants to know what happened to the baby. D8D tells her that the baby is ok and he forgives her for her infidelity. He says that all he wants is to have her and the baby back with him.

Sam and Willy are with their three children. [I swear that Sam’s premie is bigger than Luz!] Sam tells Willy that she talked to their lawyer and Luz showing up at their house does make their situation more complicated. She also tells him that Gael has made a statement that he and Sam are lovers.

Duval shows up at Willy’s house with an Order to take Luz.

Miggy tells his lawyer that he knows the lawyer isn’t there to help him but to defeat him. The lawyer replies that he thinks that Miggy is crazy.

Ringo tells EV that Laura went back to LA with JM and that the Reptile does not yet know this. Ringo notices that EV seems to be stressed out. EV replies that the doctor gave him two pills – one will save FF’s baby and the other one will terminate the pregnancy. He has to decide which one to give her. FF comes in and EV gives her one of the pills. EV tells her that the doctor said that her abdominal pain was from wedding stress and that she should relax.

FF asks EV what happens if she doesn’t marry him. EV replies that if she defies him, bad things will happen. Meanwhile, we see Miggy in his cell telling FF over and over not to marry EV. He thinks he’s going crazy.

Willy gives Luz to Duval. Sam is devastated.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – martes – Part 3

Laura brings JM to Gus’ apartment because he doesn’t want anyone to know that he is alive.

Genesis does not want to go to school. Angie tells her that she has to go to Gus’ place and check his phone messages [you can do that remotely, you know but that wouldn’t be any fun.]

D8D is sending Camilo to Colombia.

There’s a new guy Miggy’s cell. He doesn’t want to be in a cell with Matamoros but when he sees Miggy, he says that he isn’t el Mesias.

EV’s guys find out that Pegleg had JM. Pegleg claims that he had JM but he escaped. EV asks if Pegleg thinks he is an idiot. JM is in LA. The Reptile is in the room and this is the first she has heard of this.

EV asks Pegleg to tell the truth and he does. He says that JM offered him money for a nicer prosthesis in return for letting JM go. EV kills Pegleg.

The new prisoner is Miggy’s cell says that he will testify that Miggy isn’t Matamoros. [Why would the judge believe another criminal?]

Gus is chained up but not in the dungeon anymore. Rosario and Nora come into his room.

Clara’s out of the hospital and doesn’t even seem to have a headache. D8D wants her to say goodbye to her lover. She and Camilo hug and Camilo tells her who he really is. Then Sam and Willy are at the door.

Miggy wakes up and his cellmate is dead. Bummer!

FF kisses EV, maneuvers him to the bed and then points this gigantic gun at him. [I guess EV forgot that FF was in the army and would know how to work that big gun.]

Angie and Genesis go to Gus’ apartment. Angie hears a noise. She is checking it out and finds JM.

CORAZON VALIENTE - since I wrote the recap, I'll post it anyway.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE

Jean, I hope I didn't step on your toes. I guess all the storm news we've been getting here in California made me assume that you might not have either seen the episode due to an outage or have power to use in writing it.

CORAZON VALIENTE-

No, you didn't step on my toes at all. I'm sorry that you had to do a post from memory. It was totally my fault. I should have posted that the recap would be late. I work for the State of NJ. Our offices were actually closed but I was asked to come in to do storm-related stuff and the time just got away from me. Sorry about that.

Corazon Valiente
Thanks Jean and Novelera. I'm glad you are okay Jean, and my thoughts are with all on the East Coast who were impacted by Sandy.
I agree there was no suspense as to which pill FF would be given...However, things didn't turn out that way earlier in this novela whan DD gave Sol a substance that ended her pregnancy. I was very surprised by that turn of events; typically the novela "unborn" are safe from harm. And yes, I agree that Sam's preemie is one BIG baby!
J in Oregon

Corazon Valiente -

thanks Jean !!!

your recap was great, it filled in some gaps for me.

I would think that a DEAD boyfriend, grabbing you from behind like JM did with Angela, rates up there as one of the worst things that could happen to a girl. These two people so deserve each other.

PABLO ESCOBAR, Miércoles, Part 1

The cartel bosses arrive at Pablo's. Pablo tells them the bombing of El Espectador was a success, since it sent a message. Pedro says, but will this stop extradition, killing innocent people? Pablo says in war, not just the bad die, also children, pregnant women, everyone. It's a war. And we need you all to continue giving us 25% of your earnings to finance it. Miguel (the paramilitary right wing guy) says we need to go to the next target, Cesar Gavriria. But his brother, Lucio, says you guys are wasting your time. You need a political solution. More arguing ensues.

Aguirre is reading sports magazines. He finds a Maria volleyball player. Bingo!

Marino and El Buitre visit the volleyball coach with a “message”from “Don Fabio”. El Buitre shows him a piece of paper (possibly with the name of the coach's sister or relative on it). Buitre then eats the paper. The guys leave the coach terrified, if he doesn't cooperate.

Pablo has written another of his rambling political press releases. He reads it aloud while most of the other guys nod off. It says we're going to take down the government, the army, the judges, the corrupt press. But he makes sure to put in that we will protect all the common people. Peluche is directed to get it published.

Maria walks home, enters her house, greets her Mom. Pabon is observing, but look, here comes the coach. A guy asks the coach for directions. It turns out this was a cop, and they taped the coach. They later compare this tape with the one of the coach talking to Fabio. It's a match!

Fabio and Pablo, a little drunk, are joking about it. They won't tell Pedro what the joke is. But when he leaves (Pablo warns him to be careful who he calls on the phone), Gonzo asks, and they tell him Pablo's getting a girl brought in. Gonzo wants LOTS of girls (he calls them chimbas) brought in!

Ana Maria gives a pep talk to the newspaper staff. El Espectador is not a building, it all of you. They applaud. The paper comes out the next day, with the head line, “We're still in business!” Literally it's seguimos adelante, or we continue forward. Everybody's reading it, cops, laborers, everyone. I have a feeling this is having more effect on public opinion than Pablo's press release. Fernando gives a speech on the radio confirming they're going to continue to publish the truth about the cartel.

PABLO ESCOBAR Part 2

And old guy with white hair reads about Luis Galán in a magazine. He recognizes something, and calls the cops. Next thing we know, they arrest the guy with the long hair and the beard! I previously thought he was the brother of the actual murderer. Maybe not, but he WAS working with him.

Ana Maria visits the cleaning lady in the hospital, who has a broken arm. She cheers her up, and says, look, here's the newspaper! The cleaning lady says thanks, but I can't read. No problem, replies Ana M. Just remember that you'll always have a job at El Espectador, your job is secure. The lady is very grateful.

Maria, wearing a pretty green blouse and white skirt, goes out alone. The cops follow her, but no signs of any foul play so far.

Long hair is being interrogated by Peraza and Fernandez. You were in Soacha. What were you doing there? He stumbles, admits he was there, but he didn't kill Galán. But then he adds, he knows who did! Well, tell us. I don't want to die. These people.... What people? Can you guarantee my safety and the safety of my family? Why were you in Soacha? For money. Money from whom. Well, el vencio got it from a Mr. Gustavo Ramirez (Mariachi)! So he paid you? No, I never met him, only the contact ( it sounded like el vencio). What vencio? The vencio who shot Luis Carlos Galán. Whoa!!!

PABLO ESCOBAR:

I just looked up the word chimba. I'm not telling you what it is, more than to say it's part of a woman's anatomy!

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – MIÉRCOLES – Part 1

Ángela kisses JM in the kitchen and they exchange stories about how each was told that the other was dead by the Reptile.

El Verdugo looks at Fabiola at the end of the gun barrel with puppy dog eyes. He blathers on about his dreams of family life with her. “Didn’t I even win a centimeter of your heart?” She says her heart is 100% for Miggy, who is living a hell because of him. He puts the gun right on his forehead. She pulls the trigger, but of course it isn’t loaded.

The evil bribed guard tells Miggy that he killed his cellmate and he’ll definitely rot in jail. Miggy glares at him and asks how he could kill him – with his fingernails? And not get a drop of blood on himself?

Sam, Willy and Valentín have arrived at D8D’s and see some guys taking Camilo away. He tells them not to worry. D8D pokes his head in. They say they’ve come to see Clara. D8D says she’s with him, and she says, in a shaky voice, that she’s getting a divorce. She also says she’s taking Luz. He says he’ll press charges against her. And if you [meaning all of them] bother him, he’ll take her where no one will ever find her. Willy hits him.

Clara kisses Camilo right in front of D8D and says that she loves Luis Martinez

The Reptile catches EV packing and says he never took HER to Paris. She hates being everyone’s second option. She says he’s chasing a girl who never made love to him. He says: pot…kettle. He knows she’s thinking of JM in LA. She offers a goodbye roll in the hay.

Willy tries to appeal to his father. He says he doesn’t want to hit him anymore, nor see him dead. He asks him to give him back his daughter in memory of those years when he spent days with him, nursed him when he was sick, and was so proud of having a male child. D8D actually appears to wipe a tear away, but Rotten Rod shows up and says that Sam and Clara went after Luis. Sam tries to get him free, but the guys pull a gun on her.

Génesis is on the sofa asking someone at home to feed and water Cielo when her father comes into the room. Lots of joy from this very cute kid. She swears she’ll keep quiet that her father is alive. Later, the three of them cook dinner. Ángela says he should stay at Gus’s place for the time being; but she’ll arrange a discreet way for him to come home.

EV gets a call that Laura is in town; he guesses she’s there for Gus. Said Gus has been moved to a room from the dungeon at Nora’s request. He’s worried about Ángela, Miguel, and Fabiola.

EV is all duded up with a fedora and some scarves talking about their Paris trip. Presto-changeo, they are in Paris. FF didn’t need a passport? When they check into the room FF has some hallucinations of Miggy being there with her. She says to herself that she’ll kill herself to free him.

Sam is trying to call jails in Colombia to find Miggy. Of course, she doesn’t know he’s a prisoner as Jesús Matamoros. Big surprise! The nasty guard throws another prisoner in with Miggy. It’s Camilo!

The Reptile comes in trying to force some alcohol, and herself, on Gus. She unbuckles his pants and jumps on his lap.

Fabiola tells EV she wants to be alone, and he leaves. She remembers their church vows without a priest and then writes in lipstick on the glass, presumably directed at EV. “I gave you my life. Free Valdez.”

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – MIÉRCOLES – Part 2

D8D tells Rotten Rod he’s punishing Clara by having her stay with him until he decides otherwise. As for Luis, someone in Colombia will kill him, after he suffers a whole lot.

Camilo tells Miggy he thought they were taking him to EV’s house, but they brought him to jail instead. They say he’s Ricardo Caruso, alias Chuqui. When Miggy tells him his alias is El Masías, Camilo says that’s a better one. They embrace, glad to have each other’s company.

Of course EV breaks into the bathroom and finds her submerged in water. What? Can you will yourself to stay under until you drown? No wrist slashing? He thinks she’s dead and starts some badly done CPR. She, of course, comes to. He’s distraught, kissing her.

Ángela tells JM that their love is greater than the Reptile’s hate. They start to make love in the kitchen. Hope Génesis is a sound sleeper; she’s on the sofa.

EV can’t get it through his head, that she’d risk her life for Miggy. She replies that she wants him to stop suffering. He’s the only thing that matters to her. He says he did everything possible to get her love. He gets on the bed, and she practically shudders with disgust. He tells her not to worry. He won’t take her by force. But one day she’ll beg him to make love to her.

We see Cecilia at D8D’s office. She asks about Miggy, but gets no news. D8D wants to know about the lawyer. She tells him the DNA test will be ready the following week, and then there’s a wait for the judge to decide on custody.

Nicolás shows up at D8D’s office saying he knows what his grandfather has done to his parents and about his sister. But he wants him to take him to Jessica. Willy shows up just then, angry.

Laura tries to get into the jail to look for Miggy. The rotten guard says there’s no one named Miguel Valdez there. And then the even rottener Ringo looms up, saying he followed her. He hints she won’t see Jessica if she keeps it up.

D8D doesn’t tell Willy about Nico asking to go to Colombia but says he asked him to give back his sister. Then he tells Willy he’ll abide by the judge’s decision.

The Reptile says, in front of Nora and Canario, that Gus gained his freedom last night [!]. Nora hugs her. Gus says it’s a trick. Then she reveals the rest. He’s going to be set free in the jungle with only a knife. They bring Laura in blindfolded. She says she came for Gus.

We hear Fabiola’s thoughts: that Paris is a dream for some people, but a nightmare for her. We see her trying on haute couture and sitting in restaurants. How in the heck can EV take her everywhere, grinning like a monkey, when she looks completely miserable all the time?

We see Miggy making one more cross. Earlier he told Camilo he was marking the days until Fabiola got married. Today is the day. Fabiola says today is the day and wants to rip the wedding dress to shreds. [OK, why isn’t she asking for proof of Miggy’s being free before she marries the jerk? Wasn’t that the deal?]

Willy and Sam show up in front of D8D with an order from the judge, in an envelope, giving them custody of Luz.

Pablo Escobar -

thanks so much Hombre !!!

I could say the spanish captions were lagging tonight, (as if I new what they were saying anyway), I was really lost with El Buitre and his note, yum.

you got me interested in chimba, not in my dictionary, so off to the world wide web,
yes I see,
but how about this as an aside,
"When it is used as an object of comparison it denotes an extreme attraction to something (attractive/cool). Example: Eso es una chimba de carro ("That is a cool car). Its use is considered obscene, although it is heard frequently in Medellín and other cities. It can be intensified by the prefix re-: ¡Qué rechimba! - "How awesome/cool!"

this is from a wiki page on Colombian Spanish,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colombian_Spanish

so when I go to colombia will I have all of the right words?

here is an later article on the el espectador bombing (de septiembre de 1989), I think posted by el espectador in a special addition on 20 September 89. It may contain some spoilers, but wow, it sure makes this whole thing so real.
http://m.elespectador.com/especiales/articulo-376221-el-periodismo-mira-del-terrorismo

btw, there is a wiki page on the el espectador,
it was "founded by Fidel Cano Gutiérrez on 22 March 1887 in Medellín",
and has never gone away.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Espectador

oh,oh, and Nikki, not her real name, such a neat person.

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Excellent recap, Novelera. Thanks.

Both the Reptile and EV keep enhancing their sleaziness by having sex without love. EV just has sex with the Reptile right before going to Paris with FF, and the Reptile, possibly forcing Gustavo to have sex.

As long as the Reptile is impressing all the locals as Victoria, giving charity to all, why not just BE that person, and give up all her twisted schemes? Does she only get true satisfaction from seeing people suffer?

I think Laura asked Jessica if she was happy, and she said her Dad gives her everything, but she DOES miss Nico, her school, her friends.

It was cute to see the Reptile say a few words in french (not too good an accent, tho).

I agree, where was FF's passport? I don't think anyone worries about any of this, they all travel from country to country. FF even asked EV something about how he, a famous outlaw, could travel so freely, but I can't remember what he said.

It'll be fun to see Gus go through the jungle. Maybe he'll be taken in by natives.

It was also funny how Camilo also got a fictitious name as an outlaw in that jail.

The good guys back in LA were all talking about how even the Colombian authorities are all on EV's payroll. But JM seems to think all our heroes can do it on their own. Me too. If they ever really all stayed together, instead of going individually, they'd be all set. They need to get matching outfits or something. Maybe all dress up as Red Cross volunteers, white coats, etc., to help the victims of something.

PABLO ESCOBAR

Thanks so much for the excellent recap, Hombre, and thank you, Deb, for the added vocab info. Spanish is remarkable for the number of perfectly innocent words that get co-opted as vulgarities; and which words are safe and which are taboo depends entirely on where you are in the Spanish speaking world. ("La hija del mariachi" got a lot of mileage out of the Colombian/Mexican differences and the ensuing misunderstandings.)

About Maria, la deportista -- it was troubling how quickly she accepted money for her services. She knows what she's selling; she just doesn't get who the buyer is. Let's hope she is using a super-reliable form of birth control -- not another Yesenia, please.

The evil of it all is wearing me down. Just imagine how it must have felt to live through it.

Corazon Valiente -

thanks so much novelera !!!

I was wondering, you refer to Miggy's new nickname as El Masías, where I think the spanish captions spell it as mesias, which translates to the Messiah, but I'm thinking that's why Camilo was impressed.

I found it moving, the scenes where Miggy and Fabiola are so far apart, yet so desperate to be with the other.

glad to see Cecilia's still around, (I have a hard time telling the difference between Bernardo's house and his office.)

Pablo Escobar -

novelera...

is this the book you are reading, "Killing Pablo"
a series originally published in the Philadelphia Inquirer,
http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v00/n000/a251.html
(just the index with links)

PABLO ESCOBAR

Deb, I'm sure it's the same one. The jacket cover of the book has a picture of the author, Mark Bowden, and it says he (at least at the time the book was published in 2001) was a reporter at the Philadelphia Inquirer.

CORAZON VALIENTE

Thanks for the recap, Novelera. I kept falling asleep during the episode.

Did you notice how Clara almost said, "I love you Camilo" and at the last moment, she managed to say "Luis".

I guess Camilo wanted to go to Colombia. He certainly didn't do much to help Sam when she tried to stop him. Since there was space in the dungeon and the Reptile would certainly like to see Luis/Camilo again, it's not clear why D8D sent Camilo to Miggy's prison.

PABLO ESCOBAR, Jueves, Part 1

Maria meets the Coach, and they get on a bus. The police are right behind, both on the bus and in a jeep. They ride for a long time into the country.

Meanwhile, I guess long hair talked, because the police are following the actual killer (whom I'm calling Miguel), he starts running, they follow. He pulls a gun on a guy with a car to commandeer it, but he's too late, and the cops arrest him.

Peraza is filling in the President, who says wait a minute, you've got all these other guys in jail, now you say it's these NEW guys? Well, says idiot Peraza (whom I now recognize as playing a particularly slimy guy with glasses in the show Muñecas de la Mafia a few years back), we've got two theories. Yeah, right.

The innocent prisoners despair as Fabriata the “leader” talks to another guy, an accountant named Mendoza. Fernandez comes in, Mendoza, you're free to go. Huh, what about Fabriata? Nope. We then see Ulloa arguing about Fernandez about how it doesn't fit (no se cuadra). They bring in Longhair, and he now says he MADE UP all that stuff cause he was scared, he and the other guy had nothing to do with the killing. (The cops are so stupid I can almost see them letting Longhair and Miguel go, and keeping Favriata in jail. Let's hope not!)

The bus stops in a small village, Chili is there. The coach and Maria go with him in an SUV. The cops call in, we're in this remote village. Should we follow them? No, too dangerous. Try to ask the locals where the secret ranch is that SUVs go to. And that's what they do. The locals DO know where this secret ranch is, and they pay one to be their guide. Aguirre says the operation will be tomorrow. THIS time, we're gonna catch Pablo Escobar.

Maria is in her underwear, in bed with Pablo, who's under the covers, smoking a joint. I'm a little scared, she says. Being here with you. You were better in bed than I thought you would be. But I've heard so many things, I mean, you killing Galán. Shhhh, says Pablo, those are all lies. I'm a nice generous guy. If you always promise to come here when I call you, I'll sponsor you, send you to Cuba to train, you'll go to the Olympics in volleyball and win a gold medal, see how nice I am? Really, she says, wide-eyed. Really. But if you trick me, I'll send my brother to your house to break your legs (manche las piedritas, or something like that). She laughs, you wouldn't do that.

PABLO ESCOBAR Part 2

Ana Maria and Fernando are talking. Juan Guillermo is coming in a month. Ana Maria isn't sure this is a good idea. She's frustrated, tired, and of course, scared. Fernando reminds her that Dad would want us to be united, be together.

The Coach is drinking with Fabio outside of the house where Pablo and Maria are doing their business. Fabio is swimming. They get a room for the Coach, who'll stay the night. Pablo comes out. Gonzo comes out, jumps his fat self in the pool, still wearing sandals (chancletas). Gonzo asks about the girl. Pablo says I did what I had to do, but I'm not what I was 10 or 15 years ago. Fabio agrees, says we should stop all this fighting, enjoy our money, do what we want. Pablo says no, this is what we have to do (nos toca). He goes back to be with Maria, falls dead asleep, she's still awake, looks a little concerned, her hand on his chest.

In the morning, here comes a helicopter, Aguirre looking down, a local guide pointing things out. Peluche wakes up, everybody move. Pablo doesn't want to get up. Chili runs up, wake him up, they get Maria out, lazy Pablo still won't move. They hustle Maria into a car, bound for Medellín. Pablo tells them to have her leave her panties for him as a memento. Topo is in charge of security. Pablo still won't get up. Actually there are two helicopters, Pabon is in the other one, machine gun cocked and aimed. They're getting closer.

Tomorrow should be good!!!!!!

Pablo Escobar -

thanks so much Hombre !!!

hmm, Pablo with a young girl, I'm surprised he wasn't eating something,

some rumors on the real Pablo,

"Escobar was famous for his extramarital affairs, and he tended to prefer underage girls. One of his girlfriends, Virginia Vallejo, went on to become a famous Colombian Television personality."

and from another site,

"Pablo Escobar kept a group of young men he called "Los Señuelos" ("señuelo" is any device used to deceive and trap a person), and these were the men in charge of getting Escobar young women, virgins, between the ages of 14 and 17 by offering them a wad of bills, small cars, even low-income housing. The girls remained with the drug lord for four or five days of sexual escapades and booze.

But fearing the girls were spilling details of his whereabouts to authorities, he had them killed. In all, forty-nine young were murdered this way."

like Pablo says, you can't believe everything people say about him.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE- jueves - part 1

Sam and Willy present the custody order for Luz to D8D. Clara goes to get the baby but comes back saying that the baby is gone. It’s just a teaser, though. A nurse had taken the baby out on the patio. The judge’s order gives D8D visiting rights. Clara tells D8D that she is leaving, too but he tells her that if she does, he will have Camilo killed.

FF tells EV that even though he gives her expensive stuff, she will never love him. We cut to Miggy swearing that FF will never love EV. EV tells FF that eventually she will forget Miggy. Miggy says that FF will never forget him and he swears that he will get her back.

JM is going to hide in his house. He has a joyous reunion with Violeta, Génesis and JC. He tells them not to tell anyone that he is alive. Predictably, this is not a good idea. Little kids always blab.

Gus is wandering around in the selva. Some guys who work for the Matamoros gang find him.

Angie tells JM about the kidnap attempt on JC and how she killed one of the kidnappers who was identified by Duval as a member of EV’s gang.

Sam and Willy find a note from Nic saying that he has gone to find Jéssica. They figure out that some adult must have helped him and they can guess who.

Miggy has been brought to witness EV’s wedding with FF. EV keeps smirking and looking at where Miggy is.

JM and Angie have sex in their bed this time. JM wants to have plastic surgery on this scar but Angie thinks that it is dangerous. Then Angie finds the SM sex toys that Laura left there.

Gus is told that his fate will be decided by Yvonne Matamoros.

After the civil wedding service, a priest starts a religious wedding service. Miggy goes berserk and bursts into the room. EV warns that if she goes to Miggy, he will kill him. Miggy is dragged out.

Angie guesses that Laura left the SM stuff and asks if JM liked using it.

Sam and Willy find D8D and Rotten Rod at the airport. D8D denies helping Nic to go to Colombia.

FF tells EV that it’s not enough that he has her, he has to make Miggy suffer and humiliate him. EV accuses FF of humiliating him.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE- jueves - part 2

Miggy is back in the dungeon. He has the same old conversation with EV. Miggy: FF will never love you. EV: I will show you the evidence that we will be a happy family.

Sam is packing to go to Colombia after Nic and Willy is trying to convince her that she can’t leave her babies. Sam appears to agree that Willy should go instead.

FF comes to the dungeon to see Miggy. EV leaves them alone for 5 minutes. She calls EV Javier and then lies to Miggy and tells him that after the trip to Paris she found that EV was a different person than she thought and that he dazzled “deslumbró” her. She wants to stay with EV. She says that they are alone, no one is forcing her to say this and she asks his forgiveness. Poor Miggy looks like was hit by a truck.

EV has a photographer come in and take pictures of him and FF to be published in the papers so that everyone will know that FF is El Verdugo’s wife. [So he is going to have a picture of himself identified as El Verdugo published in the paper? So much for nobody knowing who he is.]

New villain, Yvonne Matamoros, aka “la niña bonita” sends EV a wedding gift - a replica of the gun that she will kill him with.

Miggy is taken back to his cell with Camilo. He tells Camilo about the wedding. He says that he isn’t sure whether to believe FF. He tells Camilo that he has doubts and doubts lead to hate, which leads to a desire for vengeance.

D8D comes to see Angie. Angie asks why he came and D8D says that he is sorry that JM is dead. As I predicted, Génesis runs in looking for her father. Angie does damage control suggesting to D8D that Génesis can’t accept that her father is dead. JM is watching this. [Since EV knows that JM is in LA, D8D presumably knows this, too. What is the point of going through this charade with Angie?]

Sam asks her babies to forgive her for going to Colombia to find Nic.

EV brings Nic to Jessica and they have a happy reunion.

Willy is ready to leave to go to Colombia when he finds a note from Sam saying that she already left. In fact, she is at JM and Angie’s house looking for information on the situation in Colombia.

Camilo dreams about Clara and when he wakes up, he tells Miggy that he has a “presentimiento” that she is in danger. Indeed, Rotten Rod is trying to rape her.

EV and FF are having a do over of the church wedding. A more sullen bride than FF you could not find. We keep cutting to Miggy struggling with his doubts: FF called EV, “Javier;” they were alone and she didn’t give him any sign that she was lying; at her age, affections can change quickly... Then he and Camilo hear shots outside.

EL SECRETARIO - Thursday, Nov. 1:

Paola has used her powers of pursuasion to convince Mario to help her stab Felix in the back - put him in jail for the rest of his life and Mario will take over the company and everything that Felix had. Mario now has delusions of grandeur. Paola takes a manila envelope (with Felix's cell phone inside) to the courthouse and leaves it off with the security guard at the door. As the man takes the envelope inside the mail sorting room, Paola disappears. Mario calls Paola -- he's worried that the cell phone could be traced back to them. Paola tells him to stop worrying.

Jaime gives Felix the good news - he's worked his charm and convinced DA Fiscal that she didn't have enough evidence to hold Felix in jail, so she has agreed to release Felix and drop the charges.

Toni is recalling all the mysterious phone calls Felix was waiting for and making as well as sitting in the bar and Felix refusing to allow her to watch television news. Her thoughts are interrupted by Jaime who tells her that Felix is being released from jail. She acts thrilled.

Dona Trudy has a lapse of alzheimer's disease. The taxi driver drops her back off where he picks her up. She looks around and doesn't recognize where she is. She wanders down the sidewalks, mumbling to herself, and two men steal her suitcase and her purse. A concerned citizen stops to offer assistance, soon after a policeman stops by and helps Dona Trudy.

Emilio is on daddy duty as he tries to also get his work done. Olga isn't a very good babysitter. As Valentina starts to color on a report, Olga tries to take it away. Valentina pouts. Toni comes over to the desk and lets Valentina color away on the pages of the report. Olga pouts as she returns to her desk.

Later, Emilio stops at his desk to check on Valentina. Em is about to scold his daughter for coloring on an important document but Toni tells him to leave it. It is a very artistic creation and they can't destroy it, besides the company probably has a duplicate on computer or in the file room. Toni returns to work as Em sits down and watches his daughter color.

Em has to leave. He asks Olga to babysit for a few minutes. Olga says, sure, sure. She takes a phone call, and neither she nor Yessie (who is playing with hand puppets) don't see Valentina run over to the elevator and hop on. Em returns and doesn't see Valentina at her desk. Olga and Em are in panic mode. They run all around the office area -- no Valentina. They go down to finance department - no Valentina.

Meanwhile, Valentina is skipping around the loading docks. She finds an open box, just big enough for her to crawl inside. Two men appear carrying two heavy boxes. They set their load down on top of the box with Valentina inside. They use a ladder and move the stack of three boxes on top of a stack of two boxes sitting nearby.

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Thanks for another excellent recap, Jean. I agree that JM's secret isn't lasting too long.

Again, I wish our good guys would team up. We've got Nico going by himself, later Sam by herself. Earlier we had Laura. Every time a good guy goes to Colombia alone, they're at the mercy of EV's men. Why not all get organized!

I have a tiny hope that Nico and Jessica will do something to challenge EV, but it's unlikely to work for more than an episode.

At least we now have another new character, Yvonne Matamoros, to spice things up. Except for JM, Angie, Sam, Willy, D8D, the Reptile, Genesis and Violeta, every other character wasn't with us at the start. Well, we had Luis, but this is Camilo. Miggy, Nora, Gus, FF, EV, Laura, Jessica, Nico, Rodrigo, Clara, Rosario - all "new" characters. Weird.

I wonder if we'll ever see Emma and Pablo again. Probably not til the end.

FF continues never to have had sex with EV.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE

Super recap! Thanks, Jean.

Somebody posted that they were adding things on because the replacement novela was delayed. Well, whatever. The writers are managing to entertain me. That new female narco really came out of left field. And I can hardly wait to see her. It's about time someone threw a scare into EV.

D8D is beyond diabolical. I was hoping Sam and Willy would get to the private airline before Nico took off, but no such luck. The guy will do ANYTHING to hurt Sam and Willy.

Regarding Jessica, Hombre, I don't know if the pair will team up and do something against EV. But Jessica got a good look at her father's bad side pointing a gun at Miggy's head at the failed religious ceremony.

So, did EV and FF actually get married by the priest? I remember seeing the priest, but not if the ceremony finished. If so, they're probably going with FF being a widow in the not too distant future.

I am ready for some really disgusting scenes when EV convinces FF that her pregnancy is the result of the false night he said they spent together.

PABLO ESCOBAR

Thanks so much, Hombre, you definitely cleared up some confusing things for me.

So last night I finally understood that it was Peraza who set up the arrest of the innocent guys. That president is way too wishy washy. He kind of went after him about the two sets of suspects, but not nearly as tough as I'd like.

How disgusting was Escobar in bed with the volleyball player? Ugh! I was kind of surprised they made her appear fine with it. I thought they'd show her grimacing in disgust with being with him.

Deb, that was an amazing post about his having had killed so many young women after bedding them.

Since we know Escobar doesn't get his until 1993, there's not too much suspense when the helicopters converge on the finca.

The idea that there was the name of a relative on the sheet of paper partially explains the Coach's behavior. But he still is a slimeball for being part of such a scheme.

It's true that Escobar's habit was to trasnochar (stay up most of the night and never rise before noon), and his slothful refusal to move at the threat approaching was probably typical. He also mentioned something about the palos to prevent helicopters landing.

PABLO ESCOBAR -- jueves

Thanks for the fine recap, Hombre. Deb, as always I appreciate the extra research you do for us. I suppose the Yesenia story was meant to stand for a pattern of behavior. Ugh.

Interesting comment, Novelera. I was struck by something Maria said to Pablo: she wasn't sure what to expect because she had heard so many things about him GOOD and BAD. It was a reminder that for many people, the cartels were -- and are -- folk heroes, not criminals. That's certainly the image Pablo is aiming for and it appears that, to a frightening extent, he has been successful.

When they woke up Pablo to warn him about the approach of the helicopters, Pablo asked where the helicopters were on the map. Learning that they were a half hour away, he realized he had time to spare. And I think he enjoyed making the others sweat a little.

PABLO ESCOBAR

Regarding your "folk hero" comment, NovelaMaven, I have been posting some non-spoiler things about Mark Bowden's 2001 book, "Killing Pablo".

There are quite a few pictures in the center of the book. One of them is of Pablo's grave. As of the time the book was published, his grave was, and may still be, a popular pilgrimage place. Lots of people go there to leave flowers and thank him for his "good deeds".

Corazon Valiente -

don't know if this is true,
but wiki has Sandra Beltrán listed as playing Ivonne,
(she was malicious Alicia in El Clon and Yésica in Colombia's Sin Tetas no hay Paraiso)

they also have Miguel Varoni listed playing Jesús Matamoros, hmm, thought he was busy directing Rosa Diamante which is being filmed in Mexico. ( maybe it will be a "participación especial").

and another actress, Johanna Cure, not sure as to her part.

this was also mentioned at TW coming from a blog here,
http://masquetelenovelas.blogspot.com/2012/11/miguel-varoni-en-la-recta-final-de.html

Miggy must be right about his lust for revenge if they are bringing in even more heavies to try to slow him down.

General...

looks like there will be no evening novelas on election day, this Tuesday.
