Refugio Para el Amor #142 Fri 10/26/12... Of time jumps, CUTE SWEET grown up kids, little girl and college age girl shipped away to school, did I say CUTE SWEET grown up kids? and 'where in the world is Pedro Campos'?
We see Luci drawing a sketch of what she believes her baby would be like… from looking at the newborn baby picture… she painfully whispers ‘5 yrs, it has been 5 yrs’. She gets a call from Claudio to meet later, seems she has been able to survive drowning herself in work and her charity…
VO: Time passes… time does not forgive but does not forget either…
we see flashes of Luci and Rod about to kiss, then Luci and Pato talking, then it seems Mateo and Alexia end up at same school, shake hands, then Luci meeting Alexia
Labels: refugio
Luckily we're in ultimas semanas or little Alexia would end up really screwed up with a "mother" like that.
I'm annoyed. At least Lorenzo is doing well.

I really didn't care for that little cutie Mateo standing out in the rain on a busy street corner. Couldn't they find something else for him to do?
The highlight was Vio giving Gagme a free wash! Too bad Julie didn't get one too.
I couldn't believe that pobre Padre was still listening to RE's drivel.
The Fridg sure has Gagme's number and she seems fond of Alexis. So maybe there is hope for a little redemption for her in the end.

Jana sure did not look happy with bossy Boris. Oddly enough everyone else seemed to have changed a bit physically while Boris still looked like a boring little twit. It certainly looks like almost everyone has had five years of misery. On the other hand Lor and Fab seem to have made a success out of their business, Ofelia is doing well and has enough money to send her child to a good school. Oscar looked happy and even Frigida who has the big secret looks a tad less forbidding when dealing with poor little Alexia.
I hate time leaps but in this case it makes sense otherwise the story would stall with not much of any real impact going on. Those advances sure threw a bunch of stuff on the wall.
I was stunned to see the final chapters notice. With more that 20 chapters to go that seemed awfully soon to me.
Oh man! They jumped us forward FIVE years!
Well, that was enough time to turn Hannah bitter. Her pinched facial expression made her look JUST like Rosa. Hopefully, seeing Lorenzo again will melt the icy exterior and get her back to her old self. Hannah was planning to go to Italy for architecture anyway, so this isn't totally different than what she had planned. Except it seems like she wasn't allowed to come home at all during that time. And she was stuck with Boris as her constant shadow. Lonliness makes people do stupid things-- like get engaged to a toe rag like Boris.
Little Mateo's face is heart shaped just like Luci's with the same big eyes. Poor Luci! All these years. Yes, she does seem to spend all her time committed to work and charitable activities.
The Het Het ladies were also celebrating Ariche graduating from primary school-- he's now a 12 year old. I will miss the cute little 7 year old actor. And poor Marianita gets shipped off to boarding school, for a top notch education. I went to boarding school too, but that was for high school. I can't imagine going away at age 9 or so! She hadn't ever been away from Ofelia that long. Ofelia was only in the States some months, and even that was really hard on Marianita. I guess it doesn't matter since we also won't be seeing that child actor again. Now we have cute 5 year olds Mateo and Alexia.
Loved Vio throwing that bucket of soapy water on Gala and laughing with the other girls in face. LOL! Loved the girls calling skinny Julie spagetti. Ha!
Glad to see Lorenzo's business taking off in a major way.
I'm disappointed that Frigida hung on to that evidence all these years after finding the bracelet. Boo!!
And yes, her OC behavior seems to have gotten worse-- looking at a perfect tomato and seeing something rotting. She must have caught a glimpse of her soul...
the first 5 years in the life of a child lay down the blueprint for so much of his identity and trust and our little Mateo hasn't bonded with his mother (or bio-father) so bringing them into his life won't be an easy thing for him. There's got to be the tragedy of separation in store for somebody in that little family constellation. Y'all know what I mean, I'm sure.
Then my disappointment with Rod and Max is enormous. Max once again let Rosa have her way with Jana, and in doing so he betrayed her well being. Then Rod has settled into a 5 year loveless marriage with Gala. Just unbelievable!
I mean, it's better than leukemia or a high body count but 5 years is a long time in the life of Luci and her little boy and in Jana's life.
Hated Hanna being seperated from Lorenzo. Glad Lorenzo and crew are doing so well. Sad Hanna had to put up with boring Boris for five years already. Now he wants to set a date for the wedding and you can tell Hanna is so NOT into it.
Rosa does look like a matron of a prison. I agree with you Vivi. I guess this is her new persona. She isn't that old, and this clothing makes her look way older than she is, while Max still looks the same, interesting.
Glad Melissa told her Mama about Claudio and her mama is right. Now is not the time for that, Melissa needs to get out and experience the world a bit.
Love Alexia and Mateo and Mateo does look alot like Luci. I liked the rapport between Mateo and his daddy Rod, they sure connected.I also didn't like the fact that Mateo was selling papers in the rain in such a bad spot. Don Chelo sure keeps a good eye on him. Gagme hasn't changed, except the hair, the shorty, short dress and she won't touch her daughter at all. Can't stand that and poor Alexia.
It sure has been tough on Luci all the suffering and five years of it. I too think she threw herself into her charities and work to try to keep herself busy. Like how she has been helping Mother Superior Josephina with the children at the orphanage.
Now I want that Supersized Pie Cart to be hitting the three bitches it is way past time already for that.
all the Het Het folks, plus Ofelia, Selene, Estelita, et al, have made the best from their resources... alright, Luci is still very sad about not finding her son, but she has spent her time doing good for others... and Claudio has followed Luci's lead.
yet all the folks from the city are sowing what they planted... including, sadly, Rod himself... the only exceptions to this are Janah, Pato, Oscar and Connie.
This is appalling. The idea that five years have gone by and nobody has found that child is beyond the pale. Why no media coverage? Why was no reward offered? Had Don Chelo seen that and turned in baby Roddy he could have been put in rehab and be working at something with a steady income by now. Maybe working for Claudio.
As for Rod still being married to Gagme, I suspect he may not have adequate grounds for a child custody fight. He's living his father's life at this point.
As for Frigida, why did she say nothing when she found the hospital bracelet? She will pay for that.
Roselena does look like a prison matron. Her obsession with sex being sinful is seriously ill. It sounds like she wants to condemn all her children to her own kind of life.
I am with CAROL, I'm just appalled that the writers have chosen to keep this child away from his true mother for five years. I know it's just a story, but it's still ripping my heart out. I can't bear the thought.
That said, the hairdressers and make-up artists have done a good job of showing changes. I like Luciana's new hair style, and they've used eye shadow to give her a haunted look. Gala's hair style has changed to a blonde version of Luciana's old hair style (trying to win Rod's love?), and she looks even thinner. And haggard.
Roselena...yes, very Ida Lupino (actress in the 40's) prison warden. And she's a prisoner of her own sick mind.
Jana definitely looked older with the sophisticated make-up. And although I found her old look much better, the make-up artists effectively showed a change.
Fabio looked great...quite the handsome dude once they got rid of his cowboy hat.
The little guy picked to play Luciana's son is quite a match for her. Well done, but so sad. Tho' the change in don Chelo is good to see, the sacrifice of a baby taken from his mother is too great a sacrifice! Way too great!
I blush to admit I went to bed last night troubled at heart. Over a friggin' story!
Oh well, support group at my house this morning. Coffee and homemade applesauce with cinnamon and nutmeg. C'mon down.
I had to laugh because I too was upset when i went to bed over a silly story. Hey it's distracting me from the elections so it can't be all bad. It is actually a tribute to how good the story is that we can feel an emotion connection to it and the characters. Terrible to have kept Mateo from his mother but he has had the love and care of the Boxcar Duo while little Alexia has it from her dad and perhaps even Frigida.
It is obvious that Mateo will soon cross paths with Luci and build a rapport with her before the truth comes out. Luci has a generous heart and i can not see her cutting the C's out of her sons life. They will simply graduate to become additional grandparents or tio/tia to him.
The trouble with such an abrupt leap forward is that we lose track of what happened to most of the characters. Did Vicki get out of the country to get away from Rosa's threats, what happened to Aldo - did he finally grow up and actually start working. Did Melissa outgrow her crush or is she still carrying a five year torch like Lor, Luci, Pato, and Rod. Is Julie still alive and keeping her daughter locked in a money filled, loveless marriage. How much improvement has Pato made in the last 5 years. Is Max still yoked to the ice queen? Many times when a long span of time passes we get quick vignettes that show us what happened but here it was just like Rip Van Winkle waking after a long sleep.
Shame on Frigidia, I guess she hadn't progressed as much as we had hoped.
Rosa really looks old and cold. I guess with Jana on her way home we are due for another tedious TL meal.
I once heard a sermon titled "It's not fair." The jest of it was that life is not fair---but no one ever said that it would be, and often times it isn't. Last night was one such example, a five year jump. I was hoping that the writers wouldn't go there, but they did. GGGRRRRRR##@%%**&^@!! Poor Luci missed the first early years of her son's growth and development. She has been dying on the inside all this long time while trying to appear pleasant and happy on the outside, her usual self. I know that life is extremely hard for her at this point. The only consulation of this evil, is that Luci's character will only get stronger and develop more fully because of this terrible suitation that she has been forced to endure.
And speaking of evil---I hope that Frigida goes to jail for withholding evidence in a criminal investigation. She can finish writing her book from a jail cell--BRUJA!!!
Mexican police---What kind of police department do they have down there? Why wasn't the missing janitor tracked down for further questioning? Why wasn't the elegant looking pregnant woman {Gala} put under intense questioning? And why were there no fliers posted by anyone? Oversight? Come on!
Well, we have all weekend to calm down and get our blood pressure under control. One good thing for monday is that brother and sister will meet for the first time.
I have vented my anger from last night so now I will read the recap and come back for round two.

I sensed a collective groan at the "5 anos despues."
Very sad when Mateo was asking Chelo why he can't go to school and be with other kids. Not to mention what his life is like compared to how it would have been with Luci and Luci's love, materially and emotionally. Sad too when it looked as tho the employees of the fast-food joint were the ones to come out and sing Mananitas on his bday [tho they were nice].
I think we have to assume that major investigative work is being done, but we just don't see it ???
Anxious to see how everyone else fared with the fast forward. Noticed Oscar didn't seem to be wearing a wedding ring. What strides has Pato made in his rehab?
Okay, extra reliance on you excellent recappers in case of extended power outage. Hopefully not before Mon. at 7. Gracias, Marta!
Clara
I noticed Mateo was wearing the medal at his BD party.
Judy- I like your support meeting with homemade apple sauce with cinnamon and nutmeg, yum. I am making tea and crumpets and will be bringing them to the next support meeting. :)
Decie Girl--I'm sure they will catch us up to the goings on with the rest of the characters. They needed us to see the main ones. But I want to know everything about everybody else, too, especially the Claudio-Melissa storyline.
I thought Gala's skirts couldn't get any shorter until I saw this yellow number with not much left to the imagination--cut pretty close to the crotch. After seeing how she treated Alexia, I don't blame Rod entirely for staying with Gala. That's his daughter, the light of his life. We know Gala's the type to throw anyone under the bus in order to get (or keep) what she wants. She's probably been using Alexia to keep Rod in line.
Next to Luci, Gala is the saddest character after five years. Luci has gotten busy doing good deeds and seeing the rewards of her efforts. What does Gala have? Nothing. She seems miserable. Why is she doing this to herself. She could have divorced Rod a long time ago and gotten a whopping big settlement out of it--enough to keep Juli in NY forever. That alone would have been a big step for her.
I noticed that we are no longer in ultimas semanas, but now in ultimos capitulos. So they'd better hurry up and resolve all the hanging chads in this story or we're going to court!!! OTOH, maybe not, we know how that turned out.
Add me to the "hate the time jump" factor. Did it have to be five years?? The most formative years of a child's life? Little Mateo may feel loved, but living a life selling papers on the streets, I just had to FF thru that.
Rod deciding to stay hooked to GTM, mind-numbing though I'm sure he does it for Alexia.Since GTM has never overtly done anything to be called a bad mother, he would not get full custody at this point...but early on he would have had more ammunition to at least try. And Frigida. Hope she gets nailed as well. Unforgivable she never said anything.
And Janna...cripes. Talk about getting kicked to the curb. Not only sent away from her brothers and friends, but being forced to have that dweeb along for the ride. Unspeakable.
Boy, I hope there is some positive happenings soon.
As for finding out what happened to our cast of characters in the missing five years, don't expect a lot from these writers. They are seriously challenged as story tellers.
Thanks SuperMarta---I think when Luciana was blindsided and attacked by the three brujas along with this one, the five year jump, were two of the most saddest and painful episodes. If it were me, I think that I would have been to angry to write but you got through it. You are living up to the title that has been given you---SuperMarta.
YEAH Violeta!!! Gagme is a mean spirited, tough woman, but has met her match---she had better not mess with Vi. Vi has part of Magda's fighting nature in her and will not back down. Gagme needed to get cleaned up and Violeta was the perfect one to assist her. In the U.S., Violeta or her business would probably have a lawsuit filed against them for that---assault, damaged clothes maybe a damaged watch etc., but I guess that in Mexico, the laws are not as strict---anyway, GO VIOLETA!!!
The only other bit of joy or happiness last night, was the part where they showed Luci and Pato working with the ladies of Het Het with the potery business. Lucy and Pato always want to help others. I don't see that in Rod, and Gagme??? she only thinks about herself or when will her next shopping trip take place. I loath her character. I would like to see Violeta give it to her again---she certainly has earned wiewerville's scorn.
the gringo
Can you imagine? i would say Julie either handed her to 'nurses' like Gala has done, or shipped her to a boarding school as soon as she could so she cound continue on with her 'social life standard'.
Looks to me like little Mateo & Alexia have both been nutured & cared for neglectful Mama for Alexia not withstanding. Even Fridga has taken a liking to Alexia. It will be interesting to see if Chuy & Chalo have told little Mateo the truth. Right now it seems like they havent and they are the only parents he knows.
2nd round of Gagme vs Vio goes to: VIO!!! She's up 2-0. You go girl!!!! I still would love to see a cat fight between those two ala "Dynasty".
I bet this week we see if Conny & Oscar are still an item. I'm betting yes.
Well Rosa hasn't changed at all. Surprise Surprise. I too think Janna will balk at signing on that dotted line and tell her mama where she can stick it.
For those living on the East Coast: stay safe during this storm. Lots of prayers heading your way :)
STAY SAFE EAST COASTERS. MANY PRAYERS HEADING YOUR WAY.
If Max and RE are still together tonight, my take is that he has too much to lose if he tried to separate from her. Does he feel a need to protect her from herself and from her children? Of course, being a man, he can get desired nookie off premises, so if he's embroiled in work, he gets fed regularly and has a dust-free house to come home to, what does he care if his mujer is loca. Besides, now that Jana is home, he would want to be there for her. My guess is that the two are together. Dying to know if we have an Oscar-Conny coupling and a Melissa-Claudio coupling.
UA, you OK?
If you need a smile someone tweeted me saying I'm not going to have a power outage, I'm just going Amish for a few days. Take care
I will say again how I enjoyed SuperMarta's SuperRecap of such a downer of an episode. Now I am in Oaxaca feeling lucky but I will watch for recaps so I can keep up. Be safe and cozy you EastEnders...
CherylOaxaca in paradise but missing Univision.
Hang in there with Refugio because the ending is spectacular. And, with all telenovelas, you can trust that True Love will triumph.
This telenovela generated very strong reactions and some debates about forgiveness. It's amazing how passionate we become about them and how much our reactions reveal about our own code of values and our own emotional vulnerabilities. We joke about it being a "therapy group" and sometimes it is. Glad you're enjoying your soaps. They are addictive.
