Refugio Para el Amor #138 Mon 10/22/12 Frigida Gets a New Gig; Mateo Has a Bad Day; Rod and Luci Have a Sleepless Night; But Barrio Business is Booming

Doña Chuy has just chewed Don Chelo out for falling off the wagon and getting drunk after two months of fatherhood and sobriety. She leaves in disgust. Not being able to walk yet, Baby Mateo has no choice but to start bawling to voice his own disappointment in his adopted papa. In order to cope, Don Chelo makes a beeline for his trusty bottle and takes a sip, but he stops mid-sip when he sees Mateo’s disapproving little face.

In her hospital suite, which is three times bigger than Chelo’s trailer, Gala is also doing her best to ignore a baby in need. Baby Girl TL is swaddled and forgotten in a hospital cart next to the bed, while Gala checks her messages on her phone, and G-Ma Julie contemplates her next shopping spree. Frigida comes to visit, and you know it’s a sad day for a kid when Frigida pays more attention to her than her mother or grandmother. Frigida starts kissing up. This is the first time she’s asked time off from work during the week, dontcha know? She asks after Gala’s health. Gala’s being released so she calls Rod to come pick her up. Frigida makes herself busy packing Gala’s things. Julie and Gala wonder what’s up with the uptick in butt kissing from the Frigid one.

At the office, Rod is trying to work, but really mooning over pics of baby Roddy/Mateo. Oscar comes in with documents for review so that Rod can transfer the work he was doing in Canada to someone else. He’s not going back since he intends to stay in D.F. until he finds his son. Oscar assures him they’ll find him. He tells Rod to keep the faith. “Animo!”

If anyone thought motherhood would make Gala’s disposition even a tiny bit sweeter, well…She still refuses to hold the baby, which Julie is actually now holding. Rosa arrives and is surprised to find Frigida there. She orders her out of the room so that she can speak with her B/Witch sisters. Gala begins her usual whining about Rod not being there on time to pick HER up. Rosa doesn’t have time for Gala’s bitching. She just saw a baby in the streets who looked a lot like Luci’s baby. Gala’s ears perk up at this bit of news. “Where?” Rosa explains the near accident with the bum. Gala thinks she’s just being paranoid. Julie tells them both to calm the heck down. If it’s Luci’s baby, so what? No one knows where he is, and the guy doesn’t know who they are. “You’re right Julie. For us, that baby doesn’t exist.”

Somewhere in the city, Aldo arrives at a car dealership where he has been sent by Max. He’s drawn to a big red SUV, but is told by the salesman that the small grey hatchback is the one he’s been authorized to buy. Aldo is clearly disappointed.

Vicky is giving Nicole the Max update. Nope, she doesn’t believe a word Max said about just testing her loyalty, but she did feel that old feeling for him when she saw him. Nicole tells her to be careful. Don’t fall into the same trap. “If he came looking for you, it’s because you do mean something to him. So it’s the moment for you to demand YOUR conditions.” Vicky thinks about how to make her own rules, that Max will follow. (Yeah, good luck with that one.)

Oscar is once again wining and dining Connie, and that crazy woman still hasn’t said yes to his proposal to shack up. He presses the point. He’s dying to live with her.
O: I want you to be the last thing I see at night, and the first that I see in the morning. Please.
C: Well, I’ll gift you a photograph.
O: You are bad. Don’t laugh. The issue is that you’re scared.

He doesn’t see the difference between them traveling (and sleeping) together and making out, and them getting to do that 24/7 by living together. Connie thinks weekend trips are like vacations; while living together is a whole other thing. Oscar isn’t deterred. He wants an answer from her tomorrow morning, and doesn’t want to be like the proverbial jilted bride (novia vestida y abortada). Connie refuses to give him an answer tomorrow, because….she’s decided right now. She DOES want to live with him. Yay! She earns a kiss from Oscar.

At the office, Rod is about to hop on the elevator to go pick up Gala, just as melancholic Luci arrives. Luci wishes him much happiness with his daughter and tells him to enjoy his time with her. She walks away sadly, and there is much left unsaid between these two. Luci heads straight to CL’s office. CL is happy that she’s decided to pull herself together and come to work, so that she can be strong enough to continue the search for her son. She mentions her talk with Padre Honesto about keeping her faith. She’s decided to do something as part of that exercise in faith—she wants to help street kids. CL is impressed by her noble spirit, but is worried that each of those children’s faces will sadly remind her of her missing child. Luci thinks that she just might find HER baby among those faces.

Roddy/Mateo has a very sad face right now. He’s mad at Chelo about the drinking, and Chelo is arguing back that he’s taking him to the authorities. He instead decides to fix him a bottle, since the poor little guy is also hungry.

Paz is back in Het Het working with Magda at the pottery workshop. Paz prays every night with great hope, but each morning her heart in broken when yet another day has arrived without finding her grandson. Magda preaches faith. They decide to go to the church that very minute to light a prayer candle.

Gala’s impatience is growing as she continues to wait for Rod. Baby Girl TL is also upset, but obviously Gala thinks HER needs come before her baby’s. She and Julie demand that the hired nurse take care of it. Rod arrives and is SHOCKED that Gala isn’t even going to carry the baby out of the hospital. Gala says that’s what they hired the nurse for. She calls HIM inconsiderate for even suggesting she carry a baby in her post C-section condition. Rod takes his baby and starts to look mighty worried about that poor baby’s future.

At Casa TL, Frigida has an odd look on her face. I think it’s a smile! She tells Mati that she’s going to be left all alone in Casa TL with that bitch Rosa, because she is going to work for Familia Rod-Gala. She’s their new Ama de Llaves. Frigida explains how they BEGGED her. Mati doesn’t seem too broken up about it.  She wishes (curses?) Frigida to grow old raising Rod-Gala’s kids, like she grew old raising Rosa and her kids. The Frigid one is having none of that. Baby-raising is not in her job description. Rosa comes in and orders Frigida to get herself over to the Dungeon in the Sky. She makes sure Frigida knows that SHE’S the decider, and offered her slave, uhh… employee to her son and his wife for their use. “If I didn’t want it, then you wouldn’t be leaving here. Or perhaps, you would be kicked out onto the street.” Frigida swears that although Gala BEGGED her, she wouldn’t have gone had Rosa not wanted it. Right…

There’s actually a full dinner table at Casa TL this evening. Max, Pato, Hannah, Connie and her two kids. Max asks if Aldo did that thing he asked him to do. Aldo confirms it. Connie wonders if the two are getting along again. Max plays it off, saying it just took Aldo a while to understand his way of being and how he works (you mess with his mistress, he nearly strangles you to death), but now they’re cool.  Rosa arrives and the talk turns to Frigda’s new job. Pato doesn’t know whether to be happy that Frigida is leaving, or sad for his brother that she’s going to work for him. Ha!

Connie announces that she’s shacking up with Oscar. Both Melissa and Aldo encourage her to marry the guy already. Rosa exclaims that they’ll be living in SIN, like two beasts in heat, without the sacraments of marriage! Aldo jumps in—with or without sin, what’s important to him is that his mother is happy. Melissa agrees.  Connie says it’s a done deal, and everyone, except Rosa, congratulates her. Hannah thinks it’s romantic to live with the man you love. Rosa tells her to shut it. She’s still a little girl. Max chimes in with his happy wishes. Poor Rosa—“I’m the only one in this house who tries to do things as God commands.”  She decides to leave and eat ALONE in her room. The room is silent for two seconds as she walks away, then erupts into happy talk and laughter.  LOL!

In the Oasis of Peace in the Dungeon in the Sky, aka Baby Girl TL’s nursery, Rod has taken his cute baby from the nurse in order to feed her.  He is an attentive papa, and the nurse is obviously pleased with his nurturing skills.

Luci is already asleep in her apt, and having another dream about being with her baby in the hospital. This dream is much happier than the last. It is a dream of what should have been. Her mother and father come into the hospital room as Luci holds Baby Roddy, and they smile down on their daughter and grandchild.  Then Rod arrives and strokes his baby’s hair as he and Luci smile at each other.  Her ringing cell phone wakes Luci up. Good grief! It’s that Bitch Gala calling to rub it in Luci’s face that she’s cuddled up next to HER man and baby (a blatant lie since she’s sleeping on the other end of the apt as far away from the baby as possible; and Rod’s with the baby as far away from Gala as possible), while Luci lost Rod AND her baby. Grrrrrr…..

Luci is noble as always.
L: That’s good Gala. It’s good that you’re so happy. Enjoy your happiness, and take care of her (can refer to the baby and her happiness).
She hangs up on Gala, but the witch’s evil words about losing her baby echo in her mind. However, Luci’s sincere and noble wish for happiness is also echoing in Gala’s mind, as the hard cold reality sets in. “No domestica. I’m not happy. But you aren’t either.”

Rod burps his baby girl and snuggles down with her for a nap on a couch he’s had conveniently placed in the nursery. I guess we know where he’ll be sleeping from now on. It’s a step up from the living room.

Over on the wrong side of the tracks, Don Chelo looks like he’s struggling with some inner demons. He looks at the half full bottle of booze. He takes a look at Mateo’s crate. His demons win and he runs out the door with the bottle. The next morning, Chuy arrives to find Mateo alone and crying. She then struggles to take him out of the too small crate without bashing his head. (Good grief! The whole scene makes me cringe. That poor baby.)  She changes him and prepares to make him a bottle. Mateo is not amused, and neither am I.

Meanwhile, his little sister looks much more comfortable. She’s clean and swaddled, and her daddy is kissing her goodbye and leaving her in the care of the nurse before he goes off to work. Gala is apparently still too tired to get up, since she was up all night with the baby, Frigida informs Rod. Ha! He gives a knowing and dismissive smirk, and begs Frigida to call and tell him if there’s any issue with the baby, since he knows his wife wouldn’t know or care.

Having finally been fed and changed, Mateo is much calmer resting against Chuy’s bosom. Chelo comes stumbling in, looking more drunk than the night he found Mateo, and likely smelling even worse. Chuy chews him out again, and makes her usual threats to take the baby to the proper authorities. (DO IT!!!!) “Old drunk!” Mateo doesn’t like the arguing and fussing. Chuy puts a red bracelet (like the ones we see so many telenovela stars wearing) on his wrist, to protect him from the evil eye—like that lady who looked at him the other day.

Said evil lady is trying her best to wipe her sins away with hand sanitizer. Her private detective arrives, and gives her his report, with pictures, of all of Max’s movements in the last two months. Apparently nada of importance was found and Rosa is pissed. Where’s that chippy that my husband’s been stepping out with?! The detective says her husband isn’t unfaithful like she thinks. Rosa says she KNOWS he’s unfaithful, then kicks the P.I. out. She’s sure he’s been bought off by Max!  Mati is shocked Rosa hired a P.I. Rosa loses it. She wants to see this woman; wants to know who’s Max’s lover; wants to look her in the eyes; wants to understand why this woman is ruining her marriage!

Max, meanwhile, has now decided to pick up where he left off with his chippy two months ago. He calls Vicky and tells her to go out to the street, where he has a surprise gift for her. Vicky runs out excited, looks at the little grey car with the big red bow, and has the same deflated reaction as Aldo. She can’t believe he thinks so little of her. With the money she’s now making as Nicole’s right hand, she intends to buy herself a big SUV. “Mind your little gift. The garbage men may come and sweep it up.”  Click. Max grabs his letter opener in frustration. Vicky looks victorious.

Luci and Pato speak about her working with the street kids. Pato thinks that’s great, but she also needs to take care of foundation biz. She needs to go to Het Het to supervise the progress of the work with the women. Obviously reluctant to leave D.F., Luci says that Namurachi is taking care of it. She says they can go later. Vio calls her to invite her to the inauguration of her car wash (autolavado) business Curvas Continuas. Pato invites himself along. As always with perfect timing, Rod arrives just as Luci and Pato are having a light/jocular moment. Rod admits he’s late to work because he was with his baby. Cue knife to Luci’s heart. Now twist.

Gala is finally out of bed, but still in her jammies at the breakfast table. She’s back to bitching about Rod running off to the office to be with Luci. Julie says that they have to do something to make the “chacha” go running back to her pueblo.
G: Why would she go when she has the perfect excuse to stay—the search for her kid?
J: I don’t know why she’s looking for him. They’re never going to find him.
Frigida, who’s silently taking this all in, looks down, hiding a look of concern. Gala realizes there is someone in the room outside of her selective coven, and sends Frigida out of the room. Once she’s out of the room, Julie says they’re going to have to pay Frigida well to keep her mouth shut, since she’ll hear many things working there.

Frigida comes back to inform Gala that the baby is crying, although she can clearly hear the baby from the dining table. Gala waves her hand dismissively to Frigida and says to just leave the baby. The day nurse will there soon. Frigida makes a face of angry frustration and leaves the room.

Rod decides to continue to twist the knife, and comes all the way into Pato’s office to talk about how the baby kept him up all night because he had to feed her. Pato can just imagine how Gala must have taken being woken up. Rod says, nope, she sleeps 10 miles away on the other side of the apartment and leaves the work to the nurse. It dawns on Luci that Gala was lying through her giant choppers. At least that’s some comfort.  Rod prefers to be the one to attend to the baby, instead of the nurse. Luci starts to get teary. What she wouldn’t give to wake up at all hours of the night to feed her baby. She begs their pardon for letting her emotions get the better of her.

At the taco corner, the boys have already started to expand the biz. Fabian is supervising one of their sellers, who has an actual table set up to sell their wares. Lorenzo comes riding over on a bike from checking on one of their other taco corners near a construction site. Hannah drives by on her way to school, and hops out to greet them. Lorenzo shyly asks her to accompany him to the car wash inauguration and she agrees. It’s a date! Lor can barely remember to pick his tongue off the ground and close his mouth. We later see Lor riding all over town checking in with all their other taco vendors.

At Estelita’s, she’s finished sewing the uniforms for the three buxom gals who will give true meaning to the name of their business, Curvas Continuas-- fitted overalls in different colors, with wide black belts.

In Het Het, Don Aquiles’ not-so-new-anymore assistant is worried that Don A’s plans to bring Procopio back means he’s out of a job. The Don thinks he has room for two idiots working for him, since he’s opened a new biz in the capital and needs the extra admin help from Copio—not this baboso assistant.

Magda and Paz supervise and coach one of the ladies to paint a vase. Ariche works on his piggy banks and is super happy to learn he’s going to get paid for each one they sell. He wants to buy a pair of earrings for his mom with the money. He saw them in the market— little black MICE earrings! Oh yes. I am sure his mama will be quite pleased…with the thought behind the gift. He’s going to buy Magda and Paz a pair too!

Chelo is sleeping off the night of boozing, while Chuy plays with Mateo and rattles his rattle to wake Chelo and annoy the bejeezus out of him. He threatens this time to take Mateo to the authorities (Yes, do it!!!), but Chuy tells him to think about it. She obviously doesn’t want to give up the little guy. Chelo thinks it’s too big of a responsibility. How can he take responsibility for another’s life, when he can’t even take responsibility for his own? Chuy tries reverse psychology. No, the baby isn’t his responsibility. He only rescued him from a horrible fate of being left in the trash. Chelo feels the weight of the responsibility more heavily than before. He shuffles over to a bottle of liquor next to his bed and talks about how often before he’s tried to kick this vice. He doesn’t think he can do it. He worries that the baby will suffer.

Don Chelo seems decided this time. He orders Chuy to give him the baby so that he can take him to the authorities. Chuy can’t give him up. She hugs him to her more tightly. “You can’t (care for him). And I don’t want to. I’m going to take him to the authorities!”
Chuy: There’s no worse thing than feeling rejected!  Yes, yes Don Chelo. You know they’re going to take Mateo to an orphanage. That’s where all the rejects end up. The unwanted.
Don Chelo is moved by this and looks into Mateo’s face.
Chelo: You’re like us. You’re not anyone to anyone. (You belong to no one.)
The three nobodies cry.

Avances: Gala calls the photogs in to capture her perfect family. Rod suffers through the photo shoot. Luci visits every orphanage in D.F. You know, the places that Chuy and Chelo did NOT take Mateo.

Looks like the writers are going to spend the last weeks of this tn torturing our heroine and dragging out her suffering, and torturing us righ along with her.

At least everyone's businesses seem to be going well-- Curvas Continuas, the taco biz, Nicole and Vicky's salons, the pottery taller, and even Don Aquiles has expanded business and needs Copio to help with admin. Hopefully, the funeral biz is still doing badly and no one has died in Het Het.

Good work, Vivi.

Rod is going to blow his top when he finds out what these evil bitches have done. Who else thinks that Frigida will be the one to rat them out?

Yeah Urban, it's looking like Frigida, of all people, might be the one to help take down the Brujas. She was really ticked off with the way Gala was ignoring the baby.

Thanks for your recap, Vivi. Lots of lively action, and you caught it well.
What is Viola's business? Is it really a car wash? With the girls wearing li'l Abner out fits? Did I totally misunderstand this?
Yeah, I think Frigida has a soft spot for Rod and there for one for the baby-I am not sure what will happen when she finds out what they did; maybe just ask them for more money.
It kind of looks we are moving toward Luci being able to find her baby, hope so, I can't stand watching little Roteo or Madrigo cry, it's getting on my nerves.

Emarie- Yes, Violeta's business with Serena and her friend is a car wash. Good, honest, clean work. What man wouldn't pay extra to have a cute girl wash his car?

@ UA
Well we KNOW BRIGIDA Is The ONLY Logical option in bring them out.
I AGREE 100%

Vivi- thank you so much for this great recap. All I can say is Don Chelo better stop the drinking. It was hard watching him walk out that door with that bottle of booze and leaving poor Mateo all alone! I was so upset. I am glad Dona Chuy has taken matters into hand. Hopefully this is resolved soon.

Gagme is beyond going to hell. That woman is the worst human being. To twist the knife like that into Luci, horrible! And Rod what the hey is wrong with him, to mention his other bebe and what he did the night before feeding her and taking care of her, knowing full well his son is missing and Luci is still greiving about that. He could have kept his mouth shut and talked to Pato about it later.

I can understand why Luci wants to help the street kids and the Het Het bidness and her work at TL. She is trying to keep as busy as she can in order to deal with her loss. The street kid idea will keep her in the D.F. and she does have good support for the other biz in Het Het. I think she is really hoping she is going to find her bebe. That would be great if she did.

Who knew Frigid had a heart. Surprise surprise. She was all over Rod about breakfast and even drank juice out of the glass he drank from, she has it bad for him, but she seems to care more for the bebes that includes Luci's too than Gagme has for her one little girl. I just knew Gagme would have nothing to do with that bebe except to further the fiction that they are a perfect family. If this goes on with Gagme ignoring the bebe and if Frigid finds out what the three b/witches did to Rod I really think Frigid will rat them out.

So Lor has expanded his bidness, that is so great, and Vio is running a car wash. That is great, Could it be maybe when Don A mentioned he had opened a bidness in the D.F.,he is really a backer of Vio's bidness? I guess Don A still doesn't know Luci's bebe is missing.

I am really liking how Vicky finally developed a backbone and is standing up for herself. I hope she doesn't give in to Max.

I think Don A does know the baby is missing. i seem to remember him saying something to Paz about worry for Luci.

Rod is a thoughtless dolt. He knows full well Luci is suffering and yet prattles on about his unnamed baby girl. What an idiot.

Had to laugh at there finally being another fun dinner at the TL's once the queen of wet blankets went off to sulk in private. Glad too that Conny finally made up her mind to go live with Oscar.

Looks like things are looking up for the hardworking barrio gang while the 3B's are not finding things as great as they ahd hoped.

How sweet was it when the PI told Rosa he had nothing on Max. Hilarious that she hired him after Max/Vicki split up. Can not help but wonder if in the end Max will end up with Vicki.

No matter how the writers drag it out it is still better than the prior version where at this point Luci, Gala and Fridgida where all in prison, the people who found the baby were not particularly good to him, where Rod kept pressing Luci to remember where she lost the baby and blaming her and punishing her at every turn.

YEA GO GIANTS

Thanks Vivi. Another excellent recap. Yes, dragging it out tonight. Nothing new except Frigid on the scene. I have jumped to the conclusion that Don A's business in DF is Vio's car wash, somehow No specific reason to think so except for the coincidence of his new DF venture and Vio and her buds opening a business both in the same episode. Maybe it's a red herring. Do we know where she got the $$ to do this?

Thanks Vivi. Not so action packed, but we are in ultimates, so there's always that slow build up to the end.

Did love seeing the taco business really taking off. And my favorite moment, the dining room erupting in laughter and chatter after that pause when Rosa left the room. Hysterical!

But have to say, Dumbass made an appearance last night big time. What possessed him to come into Pato's and talk like that with Luce sitting right there? Wow, just wow.

And GTM with that late night phone call...I think she does it more to try to convince herself than Luce. Things aren't working out as you thought huh? Witch.

Wonder how much longer they keep Luce from her bebe? Do we get a fast forward again? ARGH!

Vivi: Perfect title. Your recap was fabulous. Your penchant for capturing every nuance: "In order to cope, Don Chelo makes a beeline for his trusty bottle and takes a sip, but he stops mid-sip when he sees Mateo’s disapproving little face" and wit: "Said evil lady is trying her best to wipe her sins away with hand sanitizer makes your recaps little slices of delight.

It was surprising and somewhat gratifying to see Figida with an actual, genuine smile. ITA with everyone who noted that she may indeed be an important player in turning things around. I had to laugh at her drinking from Rod's glass. Unfortunately for her, that's about the closest she will come to any kind of relationship with Rod the bod.

Gala is not only rubbing salt in the wound, she is opening up the incision and pouring it on. Can she get any more reprehensible?

And Mateo. Sigh. I'd ask how he could leave Mateo alone but of course we know the answer. Let's hope someone reports the baby when they are out and about or that he and Chuy get a pang of conscience and give him to the authorities.

Rod is so devloted. Does his daughter have a name yet?

Thanks again Vivi!

Diana

Mads and Carol- When Don A said he had a new biz in the capital, I wondered too. But no way would Vio let him invest, unless he was a silent partner and she has no idea. I had assumed Luci was the one backing the biz from back when Vio wanted her to come with her to check out the space before signing the contract. But Vio aslo mentioned she has her savings from all her non-stop years of work and tips at Inferno, so at least some of the money is hers too. Serena's friend also brought some money to the table. In any case, it's nice to see everyone doing well. If only Roddy were back, then it would be perfect.

At this point, I think that Luci would be fine just getting little Roddy back and letting Gala keep big Rod forever. She has so moved beyond mooning over lost love. As dense as Rod can be about stuff like gushing over his baby in front of Luci, at least he never slept with Gala again as many feared/expected. She continues to be a complete turn-off to him.

Diana- No. The little girl does not yet have a name. Poor thing.

Decie Girl- I can't imagine ever being able to wish for a happy ever after ending for the Rod character if he was behaving as you say the previous version did- blaming Luci for the loss of the baby and being an ass (not just a dumbass). I would hate him.

Don A might also mean Chihuahua when he says the capital, as that is the capital of their state. The folks in Het Het have used the term for both Chihuahua and D.F. before. Chihuahua would make more sense, as far as Don A. expanding his businesses. But who knows!

I agree, Rod making the baby comments in front of Luci was stupid, but Pato opened that door. I mean seriously... stupid writing actually.

The thing that bothers me more than anything is the fact that the nurse mentioned a pretty, blonde pregnant woman lurking and offering money... and NO ONE has suspected Gala? Seriously?? Waterboard that woman for some answers!

This is going to drag out horribly, I'm afraid!

Luci is much nicer than a real person. I'd kill Gala with my bare hands!

NoleGirl- Yeah they dropped the ball on the lurking blonde pregnant lady clue (although the nurse was not offered money and didn't say that). Even if the police didn't think it was evidence since the janitor said that was not the lady who offered her money to help kidnap the baby, then Rod and CL should at least latched on to that and had some hard questions for Gala.

We don't even know if Luci was ever told what the nurse originally said to the cops. Just that the stories of the nurse and janitor didn't match. Since the janitor is the one who supposedly spoke to the would-be kidnapper, it's probably her description that's on record, not the nurse's.

Thanks for the great recap, Vivi! i am still holding my teeth from cracking for Gala's attitude and pouring salt on Luci's open wound. I too agree Frigida will play a big part in the resolution, but i also agree it will be a long wait before we get there..
MY fav moment of the night by far was Connie announcing at the 'family dinner' table that she is moving in with Oscar, RosaE acting so offended and then saying she had lost her appetite and leaving the table with the grumpy face... everyone waiting frozen in silence until she was out of sight and then they continued congratulating Connie, even Max was smiling and enjoying the moment!! Priceless!!

The best thing Luci could have said to Gala on the phone is exactly what she did. No tears, no drama, no hate. Just well wishes. Drama and hate would have given Gala exactly what she wanted.

Excellent recap Vivi! I hate it that Luci has to put up with all this knife twisting, intended or not. I hate that the writers seem to intend that she go on "suffering nobly" ugh!

"At Casa TL, Frigida has an odd look on her face. I think it’s a smile!"

That's just the kind of observation I love Vivi. Such a terrific job throughout on the recap. My other fave was : "Cue knife to Luci's heart. Now twist."

That says it all. What a dreadful time for her with Gala's vicious telephone call and then Rod's doltish "I was up all night feeding my baby girl" blunder.

I DID enjoy the burst of happy laughter and talk once Roselena left the room, and also Maximino's world-class grimace after Vicky rejected his gift. He was really mugging outrageously but it was fun.

What a sad commentary on all the many children who are in Mexican orphanages--"the rejected, the unloved." That just tore at my heart. It gives a plausible reason why Chuy and Chelo still hold onto Mateo, but oh, it just prolongs poor Luciana's agony. And ours!

Ripping great recap of a tumultuous episode, Vivi. And hooray Oscar and Connie!

Does Mexico have any regulations regarding the use (misuse) of infants in a TN? If they do, the producers should be prosecuted for having the characters Chelo and Chuy mistreat this infant like some set prop. It was not just annoying; it should be criminal.

Vivi--Great recap--as usual you are in top form--and with the last of the debates interfering with our thought processes, too. I'm surprised you didn't get a horses and bayonets phrase in there somewhere!

The first paragraph was a great start to a good read. I liked--"Not being able to walk yet, Baby Mateo has no choice but to start bawling to voice his own disappointment in his adopted papa."

I loved the light-hearted banter between Conny and Oscar about giving him the photograph in lieu of herself--and then saying she would move in. They are fun to watch.

I loved RE outing Frigida on her employment opportunity infront of Mati.

Now we know why Frigida is going to work for Gala. She is privy to so many secrets overheard at the TL mansion--including what the three were planning to do with that criadito. So, will our budding author protect her job or do the right thing. Time will tell. At any rate, I hope she keeps her writing pads locked up.

I hope this is the beginning of RE's punishment. People are having more fun without her.

Audrey--agree about suffering nobly, but then it's all about the contrast between her and Gala, isn't it? We are going to suffer along with her, but because of the nobly part, we will see her doing good deeds, helping the barrio folks, setting up centers for street children, getting the workshop going in HetHet and the foundation work with Pato for health care clinics in rural areas. And what is Gala going to do? Bitch at Rod and carry on, go shopping and do some magazine work from time to time where she is always featured in the main article. My take is that she's going to be one bored lady, distant mother and non-existent wife.

Could there be anything engraved on the back of the religious medal that could identify it more specifically? Like a date of birth, initials or name of the giver? That poor child.

I think Frigida -- for all her previous shenanigans -- may actually be growing a conscience. She might also become afraid of being considered an accomplice if she finds out something she doesn't report.

Urban

I know that Pato and Vi wanted to engrave the medal but I don't know if they had time. If they had both of the Boxcar Barrio folks have seen the medal and would likely have done something about it.

I too think Frigida may eventually spill the beans but that still doesn't mean that it will be easy to find the baby.I think that over and above her crush on Rod the dumbass, who has returned in full force, she may have been raised in an orphanage or in a very unhappy place and may have some sympathy for a lost child. Then again it could be a red herring.

However, that said both Rosa and Julie seem to have developed some concern about her loyalty which is odd given that he has never given them a reason. A touch of paranoia may be setting in.

So Gala is unhappy well boo hoo hoo. No one ever deserved it more.

I so agree about these writers putting us through the wringer with the Roddy/Mateo story. Thank heavens for the mute button.

Oh yeah Mount Rod will def erupt once he finds out it was not only Gagme but Mommy Rosa as well. Amazing how CCQ is still keeping her hands clean. What a piece of work.

I too think it's going to be Frigida that outs the Bruja Bunch (feel free to use that term Bloggers). Provided the Bruja Bunch doesn't bump her off first. I think Frigda will take $$$ to keep silent but it appears she has a conscience after all.

The TL dinner scene was priceless! Think they're all tiring of Momma Rosa's drama.

I don't think Baby Girl Torreslanda has a name yet. Of course Momma Rosa will insist on a big-to-do baptism so a name will have to be picked soon.

Gagme will pay attention that sweet baby girl of hers for appearances sake. Otherwise as far as she's concerned its the nurses' responsiblity. God bless Rod for paying attention to his baby girl.

Good for Luci and saying basically contgrats & bless your heart to Gagme. Note to Luci: you should have caller id & voice mail on that phone. Just saying...

Oops..forgot to add that Mateo/Roddy's adopted daddy is going to turn out to be Gala's daddy. The eyes and profile facial expression on him is giving it away. I'll lay odds that he was a opera star that CCQ Julie took to the cleaners along Gagme as well and left him a broken drunk man. The reason I say he was a former opera star is all the pictures of him onstage. Just keep an eye on this. Would def be interesting if this plays out..

Anonymous, i LOVE LOVE that potential story twist... that would be poetic justice on Gala/Julie to have him care for Luci's child as he did not have a chance to care for Gala...

anyway, i think i recall a convo between Pato and Vio where he wanted to have the birthdate engraved on the gold medal but they would have to wait until the baby was actually born to know the date to engrave. Pato did not bring the medal until the day after the baby was born, so who knows, maybe he DID get around to getting the date engraved. they could do it 'while you wait' if it is a good enough jewelry store... so hopefully there is either a name or date or both on the back of the medal. but if the name was there Chelo/CHuy would not call him Mateo...

I don't think they had time to engrave the medal. The baby was early, and then with Luci being in bad health, Pato probably just wanted to hurry to get the medal to Luci to make her feel better. In any case, Chelo is only one day off in his assumption about Mateo's birthday.

That would be an interesting twist if Chelo is Gala's papa. I got the impression from much early on that Julie is a merry widow though. We'll see.

Anita- I also loved the playful banter between Connie and Oscar. It was so funny when she told him she'd give him a photo.

Judy- Yes, it was such a sad commentary on Mexican orphanages what Chuy said about the kids being unwanted and unloved. I can see why they would want to hang on to the little guy as they have grown to love him in the few months he's been with them.

Thank you Vivi, you are always appreciated.

I didn't get a chance to comment yesterday. Padre Honesto's message to Luciana of hope--faith--believe was so encouraging.

Decie Girl---Yesterday you mentioned several things that Luci had gone through in a short time---she also finished school and became part owner of the Torreslanda Corporation. As a part owner, she quickly learned the company operation and became a successful member of the Board of Director's. Luci also helped to give the ladies of Het Het work opportunities in the potery business. Last night Luci stated that she was going to work with the barrio kids in D.F. and will also be working with Pato to set up clinics in rural areas. Luciana is truly Wonder Woman or an Earth Angel. Her thoughts are always of helping others. She has big problems, a lost marriage and a missing child and yet she is still searching for ways to help those who are less fortunate than her. WOW!!! What character. Compared to Gagme??? Well, we all know the answer.

Urban---Yes, it just might be Frigida, after she accepts Gala's big hush payment that is.
the gringo

Gringo- I have so appreciated that our heroine is a doer, and not a whiner. A certain Elisa of La Ermita could for sure learn a lesson. And Gala, well...she could learn a WHOLE LOT from Luci's example.

Luci is definitely not your usual simpering protagonist. She is real core strength and instead of falling apart with the vapors over everything that has happened to her she fights back and tries to make life better for those less fortunate. She never feels sorry for herself.

In the prior version the Luci character was not as strong. When her baby was lost she was so consumed with guilt that she wanted to punish herself and went back to the big house and worked as a maid where the Rod character constantly threw other women in her face. She felt that she needed to penance for losing her baby. It drove me BSC that she let herself be humiliated until she finally sanpped and took thigs into her own hands.

Wow, that prior Rod character is looking better and better...NOT!

I am so glad they updated that part of the story.

me too, Vivi, the earlier story sounds nasty.

It was redeemed because the Rod character really did love Luci and he was played by the divine Arturo Peniche who has passed his highly expressive eyes and face onto his son.. That said he had one of those classic lines in a novela that had me screaming at the TV. When one of Luci's suitors (she had several) finally told him that everything he believed Luci had done (like stabbing someone was a lie and a set up) he said " I was wrong, she deserved my love". I of course was screaming you ass you don't deserve HER love.

The Luci character also had one of the best slaps I've ever seen. After the Rod character accused her of something unfairly she just looked him in the eye and slapped him and then backhanded him. I loved the one two effect of it.

It had a much bigger cast, a high body count and five separate and different love stories and it did have the best ending I've ever seen.

Thanks Vivi as always. I remember before that you answered my question about Frigida that she has a major crush on Rodrigo, so this might be the ultimate straw on her about the witches treatment of Rodrigo's children. And also she sort of admitted to Mati that she did come from the orphanage so maybe this is why her fondness for the Gala's baby. And remember she told Mati that altho incredible on her part, she does think of Luci's baby and would like to see him. So I hope she is redeemed and do something soon. I burst out laughing about the twist that Don Chelo might be Gagme's dad. Hopefully. I too thought that tonight's episode was dragging and I said aloud that a whole hour was wasted yet again without any new news at all. When they say Ultima semanas how long would it be?
