Refugio Para el Amor #143 Mon 10/29/12 Five Years Later; Where Are They Now?

After the FIVE YEAR time jump caused a collective shock to Viewerville’s system last episode, this episode we are still settling in and catching up with our characters, and what they have been up to after so many of their worlds fell apart or changed dramatically almost exactly five years ago.

Five years ago, Luci gave birth to little Roddy, then “lost” him in a state of fear over a threatened kidnapping, and delirium caused by her out of control blood pressure and post-operation meds. This loss caused a ripple effect of grief through all of Luci’s and Rod’s family and friends, but no one felt this tragedy more acutely than Luci.

Five years later, Luci is a sophisticated young businesswoman and student, about to finish her last semester of business school, focused on textile design. She plans on creating her own brand (marca) of goods and will work with the women of San Francisco el Alto to produce the products she designs under her brand. She still works at TL Corporation, supports all the local orphanages providing them with food and supplies, runs her foundation to provide economic opportunities for women in the North, AND has continued the search for her son. She is truly Wonder Woman.

Five years ago Rosa and Gala stole Luci’s baby and left him for dead. Five years later, the only thing they seem to have accomplished is alienating themselves emotionally from those they claim to love, and trapping themselves in their own prisons of loneliness and hate. Rosa now looks as sexless and soulless on the outside as she is on the inside.  Gone are the elegant designer dresses, the chic bob, and the perfect makeup. They have been replaced by matronly, colorless below the knee skirts and sweaters, severely pulled back hair tied into an elaborate bun at the nape of her neck, and a ghostly makeup-free pallor. Gala has gone in the opposite direction. She is now a woman in her mid-30s, but looks like she shops at Forever 21 and gets her fashion, hair and makeup tips from 17 Magazine. Her signature red mischievously evil grin has been replaced by a pale thin-lipped grimace. She is now considering finding what she doesn't get from Rod (in the bedroom) elsewhere.

Like father, like son. Five years ago both Rod and Max reached significant crossroads in their dysfunctional marriages. Max’s long-term affair with Vicky was discovered and outed in the cruelest way possible in front of his youngest child, and only daughter, Hannah. Five years later, this revelation has resulted in the complete loss of his authority (moral and otherwise) in his home to Rosa, which he has not fought. He does continue to fight his loss of authority at the office. However, Claudio has just as much power, and his ideas are forward thinking and more appealing to the younger TL Corp partners, including Rod and Pato. Max just can’t compete.

Five years ago, Rod became the father of two children. His son was lost tragically, which further drove a wedge between him and the woman he truly loves, Luci. His precious baby girl, was born to a woman he despises—a woman who clearly couldn’t care less about her child. He thus became father AND mother to little Alexia. Five years later, Rod seems to be in limbo. He’s still doing well at work. He still loves Luci. He and Gala still barely speak to each other. He still sleeps on the couch or in his baby girl’s room. He still seems to not understand the concept of divorce. But perhaps our doting Papa knows that a Mexican court would likely give custody of Alexia to Gala, and that is NOT a fate he wants to subject his Little Princess, or even a dog, to.

Five years ago, Hannah and Lorenzo FINALLY admitted they were in love with each other, after a chaste courtship with not even the reward of a single kiss. Before their relationship could move beyond these words of love, Rosa kidnapped her daughter (she’s good at that) and banished her to Italy to finish high school and then university. She seems to have banned Hannah from return visits to Mexico, but sent along Bore-us to be Hannah’s only company and link to home. Five years later, Rosa’s plan seems to have worked perfectly. Hannah has graduated from university with an architecture degree and is immediately offered at job at TL Corporation; she has transformed from a bubbly sprite to a pinched faced, cynical sophisticate, a mini-me version of Rosa; and she’s engaged to Boris, who insists on a marriage as soon as possible, and clutches Hannah’s hand in a vice-like grip every chance he can get. Everyone, except Bore-us and Rosa, thinks this marriage is a bad idea.

Upon her return and welcome home, we see that the old Hannah has not completely gone. When she sees her papa (whom she hasn’t seen in 6 months since he last visited her in Italy), her Nana, her brothers, cousins and aunt (everyone, except Bore-us and Rosa), she is once again bubbly and warm. She also asks her Nana about Lorenzo as soon as they’re alone. It seems that over the years, Lorenzo has asked Nana Mati about Hannah at every opportunity he could get. It is obvious that the five years have done nothing to curb their love for each other. Five years later, Lorenzo has no girlfriend, but he does have a successful business with 12 bike/basket sellers, a large production kitchen, and a van for deliveries. He tells all of this to Hannah over the phone and hopes for a meeting with her, but Rosa’s timing is perfect as usual and the two can’t finish their conversation. Mati warns Hannah that she will have to break it to Lorenzo that she’s to be married to Bore-us.

Five years ago Pato was a pillar of support and love for all the people he cares about. He suffered from unrequited love for Luci, but never admitted his feelings to her. He dedicated himself body and soul to his loved ones, TL Corporation, his charitable work, and to regaining his mobility. Five years later, we are happy to see the fruits of his labor. His upper body is strong and fully functional, and Pato now propels himself forward confidently in a manual wheelchair. He is still dedicated to his work, to helping others, and of course to Luci, with whom he has worked side by side through their charitable foundations over the years.

What about our other characters, you ask? Melissa looks every bit the polished young attorney, and she has supported Luci through her academic endeavors. We see her bringing Luci books before heading off to Hannah’s welcome home party. We do not know if the reality check her mother Connie gave her about her chances with Claudio five years ago was effective or not. We also don’t know if Melissa has found a nice young man to have a relationship with since that time.

Claudio continues the quest for Pedro Campos, who seems to be wandering through South America, and the search for his grandson. The rest of his time is spent at work, where he is well respected, and with his daughter Luci. They spend their evenings together in her apartment, having dinner, where he compliments her on her cooking that is more like her mother's each day. But Claudio also worries that she is doing too much between work, school, her charitable work, her search for her son, AND cooking for him each evening. He suggests they hire someone to help with the housework. Super Luci refuses.

Connie and Oscar look a bit older, but as happy as ever. Living together has agreed with them. Let’s see if they actually decide to take a trip down the aisle one of these days.

Don Chelo and Doña Chuy continue to love and care for little Mateo, as best as they are able. Chelo seems to have kicked the booze for good, and looks better kept and groomed. Mateo is a happy little guy, eager to learn to read and write. He helps his Papa Chelo selling newspapers and with his street magic act. We meet him on the BEST day of his life—his 5th birthday, when Chelo and Chuy have used some of their scarce funds to take the little guy out to a real restaurant and provide him with a big cake with a birthday serenade from the restaurant staff. He kisses his Virgen de Guadalupe medallion and gives everyone a big smile, but his fondest wish is to go to school. Unfortunately, his undocumented status means that his Papa Chelo will not be able to fulfill this wish, but he immediately starts his home schooling lessons.

The Het Het gang hasn't changed much. Although they mourn the disappearance of little Roddy, Paz and Magda are fulfilled by their work with the women of San Francisco el Alto, and happy that their children are doing so well in their business and education endeavors. With both her children looking out for her financially, Paz encourages Lorenzo to instead save his money to buy a home for a good woman-- his future wife. Paz and Magda happily prepare for the graduation of their little friend Ariche from primary school. We have not yet seen 12 year old Ariche, but we hear he has done extremely well in school (those years of tutoring by Luci paid off). Luci, Claudio and Pato plan to attend his graduation. Unfortunately, Lorenzo and Violeta can’t get away from their successful businesses long enough to make the trip. They’ll send presents and their love instead.

Don Aquiles is even more grumpy and contrarian than he was five years ago. His hard drinking, eating, and smoking have caught up with him and led to gout, a limp and the use of a cane. Fortunately, he still has his faithful friend Procopio to lean on…literally!

Unfortunately, we have a Lula spotting. Boris meets with her for lunch to enlist her help in keeping Hannah apart from Lorenzo. We don’t know and we don’t care what Lula has been up to these past five years. She doesn’t get why Boris is so worried, when Hannah’s already accepted his marriage proposal. Boris has enough sense to realize that he looked like a good option to Hannah when he was the ONLY option in Italy; but he’s still stupid enough to think that she could love him eventually. He doesn’t stand a chance against Lorenzo.

Vicky seems to have managed to keep her distance from both Max and Aldo in the five years since her father died and Rosa discovered her affair with Max, but that doesn’t mean that they have kept their distance from her. In fact, we see Aldo spying on Vicky as she has lunch with a mysterious gentleman, whom she calls Don Pedro. She thanks him for looking out for her and supporting her in the lonely years since her dad Don Jero died. Could this be the elusive Pedro Campos??

Five years of caring for Rod and Alexia seems to have done Brigida good, although it appears that she never revealed the secret of the Baby Linares-Torreslanda hospital bracelet. She pretends to be the same hard-nosed ama de llaves as before, but really she’s a big softie who can’t suppress an indulgent smile when Alexia wants to stay up late to wait for her papa to come home and read her a story, as he promised. It is obvious that Alexia is treated like a princess by everyone in her household, except for her mother, who does her best to ignore the child, or yells at her over the least provocation. Alexia knows to wait up for her papa in his bed, aka the living room couch. She has her papa wrapped around her little finger and convinces him to take her to work with him, instead of to kindergarten.

Despite being a bit spoiled, Alexia appears to be a sweet child. We know this because she is immediately drawn to Luci when they meet at TL HQ. The two strike up a quick friendship and compliment each other on their pretty eyes and talk about their favorite colors. Rod looks on wistfully, no doubt wishing it was Luci he was married to and who was nurturing his children. Luci is about to take Alexia to her office for chocolate, when all of a sudden the Wicked Witch of the South comes bursting through the elevators. Gala is quite ready to make an ugly scene right in front of her child, but Luci has Rod take Alexia away while she puts Gala in her place. Gala’s words of scorn and ridicule about Luci losing her child and Rodrigo don’t affect Luci anymore. She pities Gala and calls her sick. “I know that you are a poor, bitter woman. And although Rod is married to you, he doesn’t love you, and he NEVER will.”

Gala snatches Alexia from Rod's office and leaves in a huff. Rod apologizes to Luci (for likely the umpteenth time in the last five years) for his wife’s rudeness. Luci says this madness has to stop. They’re all adults here (Luci doesn’t realize that Gala is actually regressing, while the rest of them are maturing). Gala can’t get angry and fly off the handle every time she sees Luci, especially not in front of Alexia. The two share a moment where it’s obvious that the embers of their love still remain, when Luci compliments Alexia and says she looks just like Rod. They have yet another moment when Hannah arrives and she and Luci mutually admire how beautiful the other looks. Rod heartily agrees with Hannah and stares at Luci with love and admiration in his eyes.

Avances: Rosa threatens Gala with getting Rod to divorce her. Rod goes to Het Het with the rest of the gang for Ariche's graduation, and declares his undying love to Luci.

I still have power! Woohoo!!!!

So do I but Univision is blacked out on my TV.

Thanks for posting; I was waiting for this to comment on how creeped out I was at Roselena's invitation to Jana and Boris to let their (future) children play at her house. She is looking to control the next generation as well.

Gala looked absolutely working class when she showed up at Rod's office looking like she was wearing a maternity smock that went out of style in the 50s. What a fishwife she was there.

Can't wait to see how Julie looks now.

Urban- Yes. That was creepy. I think the whole family is creeped out by her-- everyone except Boris. Both he and Rosa look like they want to drag Hannah down the aisle kicking and screaming, and then force her to have some babies right away to further tie her down.

Vivi- so glad you have power and Urban so glad you do too. We ended up getting 9inches of rain and it's still not done yet. The flood waters on my street are starting to recede, but I never lost power and I am really happy about that.

So Luci and Rod have not lost their spark. I am so happy that they have that. And how cute is Alexia, she is spoiled but such a sweet child. I love the way she touched Luci's face, so sweet. It is almost like they have an instant connection.

Gagme is way over the top. Really! Screaming at Luci to not touch her child and then wiping poor Alexia's hand on her shirt, but I really like how Alexia shook Luci's hand right afterward, wonderful.

Frigid is a big ole softie. She truly loves little Alexia, now if she would only show Rod that hospital bracelet.

Wow, Pato, so happy he has all his arm movements now. He has worked hard these past five years.

Love how Luci has matured so much, almost done with college, and the wonderful woman she has turned into. Love how she told Gagme off too. Gagme has become hard and bitter and brittle. No love for her beautiful girl at all. Maybe Gagme will get a lover, Rod will catch her and then, finally he will get that divorce. He needs some type of grounds to nail her, that's for sure.

Can't wait to see Ariche. I will miss the child that played him from the beginning of this TN.

So Aldo is still "stalking" Vicky. I too wondered if that was Pedro Campos she was talking too,.

I like how Hanna turned out, I like your name for Boris, Bore-us. I really think Hanna won't marry him. When push comes to shove I think Hanna will finally shove Rosa back, at least I am hoping she does. I can't see Bore-us and Hanna together at all.

Oh, Vivi loved the format of this recap you have done. It was wonderful and told the whole epi beautifully. Stay warm and dry.

Vivi--Hooray for you! My electricity was out about two hours. Came back on just in time to watch about 45 min. of Refugio.

What a wonderful recap. You hinted that it was going to be different. It was great catching up on those five years with a minimum of angst.

Gala is a trip, no doubt. You pegged her perfectly--she's regressing while everyone else is maturing. She's no longer RE in training, she's a full-fledged Roselena Clone.

Did you notice how she wiped Alexia's hand that Luci had been holding on her maternity smock? I guess she couldn't fish out her hand sanitizer quick enough. It's funny how only when it's convenient for her does she worry about Alexia's health. Schools, and especially kindergartens are vast reserves of nasty germs. It's the best place to build up your immune system, however. Unfortunately for me, my kids' runny noses & fevers lasted 24 hours and it took me 10 days to get over sore throats and bronchitis I contracted from them.

I also noticed that during the toast, Jana was the only one who didn't stand and toast (kept company by Pato). And what a sad meal, afterwards. It's never fun to eat at RE's table.

That was cute to see Aldo peeking around his prop newspaper. I wonder if he could hear any of the conversation.

All I can say is HURRY UP Lorenzo, rescue Jana.
Anita

Oh Thanks Vivi, what a trooper you are. I am glad you still have power since I have no Univision here in Oaxaca so don't know how to see episodes so Caray Caray is my best resource to stay up with this ridiculous story. I am still seething from the 5 year trick they played on us on Friday. Oh well, it is just a story, it is just a story, it is just a story!

I loved you clear descriptions and summaries of what happens and what it all means. I think Pedro is probably the man we are all waiting for. I'm hoping he has been good to Vicki, she hasn't had any good breaks for a long time and Pendro can eventually bring on the pie carts for the dastardly deeds of good old Osito who even though I like him and his love for his children, he has so much to pay for even if living with RosaE hasn't been enough punishment.

I thought I caught a half look on Lorenzo that he knew exactly when Janna/Hannah was coming back so I suspect they have found some way to keep in touch, perhaps through Nana/Mati.

Roselena has no clue what a family is supposed to be. And after watching novelas for nearly two decades I think Norman Rockwell was on drugs.

As an aside, does anyone else think that the young actors playing Boris and Lorenzo are gorgeous enough to be full-fledged galans in a couple of years.

Vivi thanks for the recap. I'm so glad you, Anita, UA and Mads are OK!

Add me to the list of those who think Pedro is the one Claudio is looking for.

It is neat that Rosa and Gala look as empty as they are. Now we just need their anvils to fall.

Vivi, very insightful recap. I still had power and cable, too and was able to watch, but the CC's were more scrambled than usual, was so glad to see your recap up, and so early.
The advances from friday showed Matao and Alexia meeting, but it didn't happen yet, were they just teasing us or was I hallucinating?

Vivi, thank you for the wonderful transition recap. Fabuloso.

Loved "Bore-us" - perfect name for this jerk.

I could see the smoke coming out of Jana ears during the little family gathering. It will not be long before she totally blows off RE.

I still grieve for the lost years for Luci, Rod and especially Mateo. He seems to be happy and well adjusted and hungers for knowledge just as his mother. May all of their wishes come true.

And I hope all of my wishes for very large anvils for the 3 Killer B's come true.

All of you that are in harms way from Sandy, keep safe.

Rosemary Primera

There is some very bad flooding in lower Manhattan right now, but they say it's receding now. Some friends of mine may have had to evacuate from the East Village; I will try to find out in the next few minutes.

Couldn't watch Abismo on TV tonight. Don't know when Univision will be back on the air.

Urban- So sorry your Univision is still out. Mine got shaky during Abismo and the lights flickered, as there were some huge gusts coming in. But it held on.

Emarie- They showed the previews for the upcoming week, I believe. So, no. The two adorable sprites did not meet yet. That should be a cute meeting.

Lovely recap, Vivi, thank-you so much!

For those who have missed an episode or two, I'm pretty sure Univision makes them available on their website the day after they air.

Mads- Glad that you managed to keep dry.
I also loved that sweet scene between Luci and Alexia. Once Gala gets her anvil, there will be no problem with Luci stepping into the mother role. Actually, both of the little ones lack a stable mother figure. I also hope that Gala does go ahead and get a lover, because it will give Rod just what he needs to divorce her.

Anita- Glad you and Mads liked the format. So much of it was just catching up with characters, so I hope folks don’t mind that I deviated from my usual play by play style. Yes, I did notice how Gala wiped the Luci cooties off Alexia’s hand. But I loved how Alexia took Luci’s hand again when she said goodbye. Ha!
Yes, Hannah seems to be the least enthused about her wedding. No way will she actually make it down the aisle or sign on the dotted line.

Cheryly!! So good to see you. I’m sure you’re having a blast in Oaxaca. I love the pic of you taking what is likely a beautiful picture. Did you upload any more pictures from Portugal anywhere? Yes, it seems Lorenzo has been getting info on Hannah from Mati all these years. He didn’t know the exact date, but he knew she would be coming back around the 5 year mark. He’s been waiting eagerly.
I too hope that Pedro’s arrival will finally mean that Max will have to face up to the fraud.

Urban- Lorenzo was looking quite hot this episode. They’ve cleaned up his beard, and since he’s no longer wearing a baseball cap, his hair looks good. When he smiles he’s especially cute. I can’t stand the character of Boris, so I can’t see the good looks underneath that weasely scowl. But I’m sure if the actor were playing a good character, I would find him attractive. And yes, I do believe Vicky’s Don Pedro is THE Pedro Campos.

Karen- I too am waiting with baited breath for those anvils to fall on Rosa and Gala. But they are both already living their punishment in so many ways.

Rosemary P.- Thanks amiga. Glad you liked the recap. I’m not the originator of Bore-us, but it suits this kid perfectly. He’s a bore and boorish.

Audrey- You’re very welcome. I believe that Hulu has Refugio for free, if anyone wants to catch it that way, and Uni as well.

Vivi thank God you're ok and as usual your recap of the transition is so helpful to us. I get this feeling that the previous chapters ended before the 5 year cap and so this is a new sequel.
Only, what a finale. Sad and depressing. Now why would writers rob us or the main characters 5 years without closure. Janna is not a main character so it is ok that she loses 5 years but For Lucy and Rod, what an ending. Losing a child is the worst. Now it would even be harder for the son Mateo or Little Roddy to separate from his known parents. That would also be traumatic to the child(if he gets found within his childhood) But then he could be found like Luciana but that would be again a different story. Oh well back to my mantra..this is only a tn.......

Glad to see so many safe and sound. The power gods let me get thru the episode last night, grab a cup of coffee and then that's all she wrote. We finally got power back on @ 5:30 this morning. The howling and rain hasn't stopped though and hey, we may have snow soon. Fun times in NE Ohio.

Vivi, you are definitely the best to still crank out any recap, let alone such a beautifully written and thoughtful one. The episode was so bittersweet.Nice to see the brujas not winning any of the happiness they sought. For RE, she has no love or respect, but I guess she has a certain satisfaction knowing she rules the roost. Enjoy it while you can...

Seeing so much positive happening to all our favorites, the lovely little Alexia, and even a softy Frigida (though I still don't forgive her keeping that bracelet a secret.) was great to see. Matteo breaks my heart though. I know he's loved and cherished, and seems so happy, but knowing the love and all he's missed with his real parents just is hard to not think about.

Thinking the Janna/Lorenzo storyline may become the love story that may be the spur to having events really start happening. Not sure why, just feels like they are doing a major build up with it. He sure looked amazing last night.

I too thought Vic was talking to Campos. Her father would have worked with the guy at one time and knew her. Interesting twist.

Be fun to see Ariche and have everyone in Het Het for the day. Now, I need to go find what I did with my snow boots.

Vivi: I'm in awe. Your powerful insight and beautifully concocted summary into the character development of our favorites (and not so favorites) was simply amazing."Rosa now looks as sexless and soulless on the outside as she is on the inside" and "she has transformed from a bubbly sprite to a pinched faced, cynical sophisticate, a mini-me version of Rosa" were only a few of my favorites.

Aside from the joy of Pato's progress and delight in Alexia and Mateo (what a beautiful child!), I am saddended that Luci has been separated from Mateo for such a long, excruciating time. Basta! Let the reunion begin...

Diana

Daisynjay- So glad to hear that you got through the storm ok and got your power back quickly. I don’t envy you getting snow in OH because of the storm though. The DC area lucked out. But NJ and NY really got hit hard, so I hope all of our Caraymates there are ok.

I also want to see that smug look of satisfaction on Rosa’s face wiped off, and soon! It does seem like the Hannah/Lorenzo romance will be some type of catalyst. I at least hope it makes Max put his foot down so that he doesn’t see yet another one of his kids end up in an unhappy Rosa-engineered marriage. Snap out of it dude!

I hope that Vicky tells Pedro about her affair with Max and that Pedro decides to throw Max under the bus regarding the fraud in revenge for his friend Don Jero and his daughter.

Vida and Diana- I don’t know if there was a big time jump in the previous version. We’ll have to ask Decie Girl. Although a lot of good things have happened to many of our characters in those years, it is a crime that Luci has been robbed of those years with her child. But it says so much about our heroine that she has managed to move forward and do so well in those years that she’s also been grieving. Just as it was difficult for Luci to come to terms with her bio family and her adopted family, it will be a challenge for Mateo/Roddy. I’m not sure how the writers will deal with that when the truth eventually comes out.

Vivi, I don't actually watch this show, I just catch the last 10 minutes before Eva starts. I had a rough idea of the plot (in a TN, everything important happens in the last 10 minutes anyway!), but I've been getting curious about the details. Your recap was perfect! It gave me everything I need to know, and it was beautifully crafted as well!

Paula- Glad I was able to help. It is amazing how much you can pick up by just watching the last 10 minutes of a show. You definitely get all the "impactado" scenes. :)

Excellent recap, Vivi, and glad you are ok. I'm still angry about the time jump also - it's only a tn.....
Now that Jana is a college graduate with a job, I hope she moves out, ditches Bore-us, and gets on with the life she wants.

Oh yes, I'm also delighted to see Pato doing so well.

Emilia- Yay! New grandbaby pic! What a cutie she is.

Thanks, Vivi. She is 3 1/2 months old already. Hard to believe.

Wow Vivi. Sensational. Beautifully written. And I loved the refrain "Five years later....Five years later...: Almost felt like it was one of those old troubadour songs, with the haunting reminder of time passing, love lost.

You outdid yourself amiga, and sure 'nough, anybody could get a sense of where this story has been and perhaps where it is going.
Just. Simply. Superb.

Thanks.

Also...drove to work this morning at 7:30 am. Pitch black. Blizzard like snow. Couldn't see worth a tinker's damn. But now it's just rain. And oh sooooo cold.

Emilia, dagnabit, that is just the cutest baby I've ever seen. Woo woo, look at that red hair. If she has the temper to go with it (like my Kentucky mama did) watch out! She once broke her own mama's nose throwing a glass milk bottle at her. Family life was...eventful!

I'm sure your grandbaby is a sweetie like you. But just in case...

Oh Emilia, what an angel. That smile just warmed up this day for me!

Back on line after suffering three more black outs. Thought I'd have to make tea on my camp stove this morning, but the power came back on just in time.

Just wanted to chime in and thank Vivi again for her time and attention, dedication and love. We are a hungry bunch of fools---it's only a tn, it's only a tn....

Who knows what Mateo and Luci's story would have been if he'd been recovered a few months or even a couple of years after he was discarded by the brujas. The brujas would not have let up trying to "disappear" him and wage a war of attrition on Luci. Brigida stepping forward with the bracelet would not have brought Mateo back and Max would have used his power and influence to keep at least RE out of the clink.

Maybe it was better for Mateo to be safely hidden until he was old enough to understand what happened and Luci and Rod in a better position to protect him now. Can't say if it would have been better on him to take him away from DC1 & DC2 at age 2, 3, or 5. We've all seen pictures of children being taken away from adoptive parents they've known since birth and returned to birth parents they don't know at all...it's just a tn, it's just a tn.

Luci & Mateo could probably have gone back to HetHet, but that would have left Rod out of the equation. So we are here, in the now. I guess we just have to go with the flow.

Glad to see out East Coasters are posting away. Spent the whole day worrying.

Vivi, yes in the prior version there was a five year jump during which the baby grew up. During that time Luci was serving time in prison for attempted murder along with Gagme and Frigida one for murder the other for financial stuff. The child was a little delinquent, thief who did cross paths with his father and formed a friendship with him. The Rod character also married a woman, the one Luci was accused of trying to kill, after she had a stroke and fell into a coma. She later came out of the coma but faked it for five years to keep him tid to her. In many ways the separation an eventually discovery seem to be tracking.

OK I finally figure out why Frigida, who has apparently morphed into Mati 2 kept silent about the bracelet. She has become attached to Alexia and i think she feared if she spilled the beans and Gagme was discovered to have played a part in it, the woman would have thrown her out on the street and denied her access to her nina. So she keeps silent but hopefully not forever.

Couldn't help thinking Jana was trying to become invisible during that awful drinks and dinner scene. Max does not seem happy at the idea of this marriage and was the one who wanted time to pass first. That is something the two B's don't want.

Lula proved herself to b an idiot. Why on earth is she promoting the Boris Jana undion when we suppose she still wants the dolt for herself. I doubt is she has the smarts to be using reverse psycology. Then again her inherant snobbery may be at play.

Decie Girl- I am SO glad this version of Luci got to spend the five years becoming a successful businesswoman and student, instead of in jail! Yikes! I wouldn't have been able to keep watching.

Good theory about why Brigida kept mum. She has her dream gig right now, with her precious Rod and Alexia.

Lula is an idiot and always has been. She had the gall to wonder why Hannah hasn't called her since she got back or invited her to the welcome back dinner. Really?

Anita- So glad to hear your power came back in time for your cup of joe. You bring up some interesting theories about what could have been had Roddy been found earlier or if Brigida had spoken up. It is what it is, and now we just have to hope for the best possible outcome for all the characters we like and for the little kids.

Judy- I was inspired by your usual reflective style of writing when I wrote this, so I am flattered that you enjoyed it.

Vivi, thanks for the recap! i was paying attention on and off last night and you filled in the gaps very nicely.
ITA with everyone else that Lorenzo and Janah should have their own novela... and that it makes no sense for Lula to be prompting the janah/Bore-us (GReat nick!) engagement if she is after Bore-us herself.

Also loved Luci keeping her cool in front of Gala and having that connection with Alexia right off the bat... she will eventually be a great mom for Alexia. And i am sure Rod was elated to see their interaction...

yes, Rod needs to kick off his passive attitude and put his foot down. I agree that he can't even consider divorce because he would not want Alexia to be with Gala all the time, but he can be a bit more firm with Gala ... and only because we all know how much he loves Luci and why they are apart, i can support his attitude and props toward Luci...
So glad Pato has recovered most of her upper body movements... he looks great and so happy he can hug Janah or anyone else again.

my fav part of the ep had to be the previews... can't wait for another huge family reunion at HetHet.

Vivi, I'm glad to read that you and others are ok. Us on the west coast are watching our televisions nearly in shock over the HUGE storm and the damage it has caused. One day you guys back east will be watching your tv's also nearly in shock while viewing the devistation after the BIG ONE when it hits here in California. Well, enough of that.

Thank you so much for your great recap. When your book comes out, I'm going to get an autographed copy.
I loved the way you wrote--Rosa and Gala five years later--All that they have accomplished is alienating themselves emotionally from those they claim to love and trapping themselves in their own prisons of loneliness and hate.

I almost threw something at the telivision when Gagme wiped Alexia's hands after she touched Luci---BRUJA.

Do you know who are the parents of Ariche? That little guy is so cute. Also, I never did get who Fabian is related to. Thanks in advance.
the gringo

Hey Gringo! I grew up in L.A., so I have also experienced large quakes where friends and relatives on the east coast worry. Thanks for the concern.

That hand wipe thing was such an obnoxious move. Gala is such a child.

Ariche's dad abandoned them when he was a baby. He lives with his mom and grandpa (whom we have never seen) and they are very poor. His mom works all the time, which leaves Ariche plenty of time to wander the streets of Het Het. He is very lucky to have been "adopted" by Luci and her family. Had it not been for them, he would not have gone as far in school and done so well, would not have been well fed every day, and would not have had such great adventures like flying on a plane or going to D.F.

Fabian is also from Het Het, but we have never seen his family there. He and Lorenzo were bffs from back home.

Marta- Although I can understand Rod's reasons for not pursuing a divorce while Alexia is so little and vulnerable, I also wish he would be more forceful with Gala and put his foot down. I hated the way she grabbed up Alexia and took her out of the office.

Glad to read everyone pretty much made it thru that storm o.k. :-)

I too think that was Don Pedro lunching with Vicky. I wonder if he's going to turn the tables on Max. Interesting to see how Vicky knows him. Guess from her daddy. Maybe her daddy & him kept in touch and he helped him out while he was unemployed from TL Corporation.

Is it me or does it seem like Rosa is dressing just this side of a nun only without the habit?

Glad to see Fridga has a soft spot for Alexia and clearly cares for that child.

So Gagme has threatened to go find her a boy toy. I'll lay odds she's already got one. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. And that will probably be the trigger that makes Frigda go to the police regarding Mateo/Little Rod's baby bracelet. Only I think she'll be anoymous & drop off the bracelet with a letter in a envelope telling the police who did it.

Good to see Hanna hasn't lost herself as a Rosa Jr. Lorenzo will arrive at the wedding and say I Object!!! And thats when Hanna will tell Boring to take a hike. I think out of the three siblings, she's sure enough of herself that she doesn't need the TL money and prestige to make it in the world.

Would be interesting to see if anything has come about from the early flirting between the architect & Ophelia. And remember....Lastra is still out there somewhere with his botoxed face.

From what it looked like in the preview for tonite, we'll finally get our glimpse at the aged 5 years Ariche. Now we just need the 5 year aged Marianeta and we're caught up.

Anon 2:08- Yes, Rosa is as close to looking like a nun as she can get, without a habit.

We got a bit of an update on Marianita and Ofelia from Estelita. She told Lorenzo that Marianita wasn't coming back for the holidays because she loved it at her boarding school in Puebla so much. She is also apparently an excellent student. The first few months at the school she was sad, but then she made such great friends that she was soon over it. Plus Ofelia visits her every weekend. This makes me wonder if Ofelia has had time to develop a relationship with architect Cardenas, if she's never around.

The other day someone mentioned the lack of romance lately in this story lately. And i agree. In the prior version that was always present when the leads were together even if it remained unspoken. A lot of it was because the lead actor is so good at using his body and face that even when he said or did wrongheaded things it was clear how much he loved luci. Soto doesn't have that finesse and skill so the feeling just isn't showing.

As much as we hate what has happened to Luci in the long run it is a good thing. In the beginning she was a naive little girl from Het Het overwhelmed by the older and far more sophisticated Rod. He swept her off her feet knowing very little about her and she about him and his world. He was caught up with passion and by the fact that she was so different from his usual conquistas. Had the marriage lasted a few years he would have become bored with the Luci he got. She would never have grown in the woman she is today, she would have been his pampered little bed toy. Now she is educated, more comfortable in his world and able to hold her own against Rosa and Gagme. While she had the core strength to do that in the beginning she didn't know how and was constantly wanting to pack it up and go back to her gente. This way she has grown to have the best of both worlds and is Rods equal or superior in every way. If sand when they come together again with their children they will have a far greater chance of an HEA.

Anonymous note with the bracelet... that has to be it. I can't imagine any other way this could come to light.

I also find it so difficult to believe that an emotionally abusive mother like Gala could win custody over a warm, loving father like Rod Qui Tiene Much Dinero.

Alexia will be a very happy child when Rod finally marries Luci.

Thing is it would be hard to prove emotional abuse. Plus, she really just ignores Alexia. She doesn't do anthing TO her. Not easy to prove in court.

Good point about Ofelia. I was thinking of her last night, and whether Vio will actually realize she had a prince right under her noise too. Do not want that sorry excuse for a cop, Mr. LemonSucker to ever grace our screens again.

Maybe that's why I'm getting excited about Janna and Lorenzo. We need some romance and these two are perfect for it. Little clandestine meetings are called for here.

Still not feeling positive about Pato. The more he recovers, the more nervous I get. The fact they have never tried to pair him with anyone just screams he isn't safe under the writer's pens. SOOOOOO hope I'm wrong. Hugging my Pato Tee.

OT: it was so funny watching Nunca te Olvidare this morning and suddenly there was Lastra! with clear skin, short dark hair and looking about 28 yrs younger!!

Marta- I was watching that today too! Ah, to be stuck at home all day. Anyway, many familiar faces in that one, including Lastra and Don Aquiles.

Oh, and Lic Barerra was in it too. And a buch of other older actors who are currently in other tns. It's amazing how many different projects all these tn actors have worked on with each other over the years.

yes, televisa has a pretty stable pool of secondary actors, so you see the same faces... Lic Barrera was also in Corazon Salvaje -93 as one of Juan's men... Segundo.

his name is Jaime Lozano...

so how are they going to find Mateo?
1. Luci sees the pendant medal
2. Luci hears from Chelo how he found him
3. Chelo overhears Gala speak about 'the baby i threw in the trash'
4. the police actually do their job

Marta-

No way would Gala brag about throwing the baby away anywhere near where Chelo would be.

Someone has to see the medal. Only three people have seen it-- Violeta, Luci and Pato. It will have to be one of those three. Since Luci already ran into Roddy/Mateo as a baby, and Rod already ran into him as a street urchin, I think it's Pato's turn to run into him, and this time see the medallion.

I wouldn't count on the popo for anything. They've been useless.

I know how they did it the prior version and it was closer to the end. Maybe 15 or so episodes. It was simultaneous, both Rod and Luci discovered the truth differently and they had had time to build relationships with the little guy.

As Vivi said the police had not part in it and i can't see that happening here either.

I can only think that Luci will somehow see the medal and feel "the call of the blood" and maybe Pato will be with her and also reconize the medal. i do hope they just hurry and up do it. Than hang the baby stealers for the hell of it.

Decie--Good observation and insight into a Luci/Rod relationship if they had stayed together. But remember, she was already becoming a famous artisan with the prize for her pottery work.

I still wish it had been Pato she fell in love with. They are so well matched tempermentally. Rod is still a bit of a hot head, only now he's turned that anger and frustration towards Gala.

Sorry, but I think Rod's glasses make him look dorky.

Ditto for the dorky look. LOL Hardly what one expects from the galan.

The big glasses are actually really "in" with young people these days. It's dorky cool. Each time I see one of the teenagers we work with in those big chunky 80s glasses, I laugh. I wish I had kept my big blue pair from high school.
