Amores Verdaderos #5 Tue 11/13/12 Praying to Porcelain Gods and Frustrated Hunks

NOTE: I started writing this recap a few days ago, when I wasn't clear on all the characters' names. (And heaven forbid I research that! LOL.) So I gave them all my own descriptive names. Forgive me for calling Big Ed . . . Big Ed. I know his name is Jose Angel. But just this one time I call him Big Ed. LOL.

UPDATE: It's finally done! All screencaps are up.

Big Ed taking a furtive peek at his jefa, reading in her bubblebath. Why, Big Ed! You're a married man!

Big Ed, after jumping out a second story window (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!) covers for himself by pretending to be doing push-ups.

"Guzmancito" (Francisco Guzman, aka Sebastian Rulli) is singularly unamused by Nicki's snarky and spoiled attitude.

Victoria has a fit about her dad's current lady love. Doesn't want to hear about her. Dad says okay, okay, calm down. She calms down and they chit chat about something else.

Said lady love is hiring a private detective to find out if his former lady love, Candelaria Corona (who predated her) met Vicki's Dad (Anibal), about 40 years ago, she says. Candaleria worked as a nurse at a small village, she and Anibal had an affair, and then she disappeared a few years after that.  Paula (Main Squeeze) wants to know if this woman had a kid. Any guesses on who that kid that might be? LOL. Lady says that her future is at risk here, she needs to know!

At breakfast table. Grandaddy is asking spoiled Nicki about how she slept. Nightmare, she whines! She dreamt she was at a zoo being chased by gorilas! LOL. Nicki gets a phone call from a novio, named Romeo-whatever. Victoria wants to know if Nicki is going to answer. Aw no, and he's not her novio anyway, Nicki whines.

Our two hottie bodyguards arrive on the scene. Are introduced to Grandpappy as if it's a huge big deal. Grandpappy (Anibal) recognizes Big Ed's name because everyone has been talking about him. Something is asked about breakfast. I think Big Ed is hungry, and is not pleased when Francisco says he's already eaten. Big Ed *definitely* hasn't had breakfast yet and gestures to his tummy in front of Francisco like "Dude, I'm starving." Big Ed is led to the kitchen to eat and is told by Victoria that he'll go with her later to the office. Sleazy cheaty husband (Nelson) thoughtbubbles that he doesn't have enough time on to talk to Kendra (slutty model) before Vicki gets there. Victoria is all lovey-dovey and saying that they can spend time at the office together. Sleazoid hubby begs off, saying he's got a dentist appointment and he leaves the table hastily.

Meet the hunky bodyguards.

Then Nicky gets up to leave. Guzman (Francisco) says "let's go" and Nicki has a fit, saying there's no way, no way, whine whine she can't have him go with her. I missed something but in essence she thinks he's dressed like a stiff. Victoria somewhat apologetically asks Guzman to dress more informally. After he leaves, Nicki says something insulting that I missed, but I think it included comparing him to an employee at a funeral home. Grandpappy adds something snarky, I think about Big Ed the "big gentleman," and they both laugh. Victoria and the housekeeper lady look distinctly unamused. Methinks Nicki is protesting too much about her dislike for Guzman. I mean, she did see him without his shirt on. Connect the dots here.

Francisco's sister (aka Sinthia, she with the navel-baring tops in LQNPA) is dressed very demurely (I barely recognize her without seeing her bellybutton!) and taking her little boy outside. She tells her kid to make sure to call grandma, grandma. ("Abuelita") The kid's confused, saying this woman is not married to grandpa, how can this be? (Out of the mouths of babes!) They are greeted by a well-dressed older woman who is none other than (big surprise) the main squeeze of Grandpappy. They exchange niceties. The kid at first calls her "señora" and has to be corrected to call her abuela. They all seem very pleased and happy. Then Grandpappy's Main Squeeze, aka the Former Mrs. Guzman asks about Franciso. Sister takes on a serious tone. He got a job. Main Squeeze Grandma asks for more details. Sis explains how she doesn't know everything. (Missed something here.) They discuss Francisco's reluctance to forgive Main Squeeze for her leaving the family many years ago and wonder if he'll ever relent.  Main Squeeze (Paula) tearfully says she wants nothing more than to see Francisco and beg for forgiveness.

Beatriz (Francisco's sister) explains to Paula (Main Squeeze) that Francisco is reluctant to forgive Main Squeeze for abandoning the family when he was a mere adolescent.

Guzman comes dressed in civilian clothes, looking like very much the hottie and smashing in a black leather jacket. Nicki snarkily says he looks normal (she really is trying too hard to be snarky!), and she calls him "Guzmancito." Oh man, she is a bruja. More snakiness. He says he dressed this way because Victoria asked him, and not to please Vicki. She snarks back and calls him a "Gorilita." Some back and forth about calling her SEÑORITA, if you please. He says it through gritted teeth. Then she gets in the driver's seat. But he wants to drive. Oh no no no, she protests, this is MY car! But he's not having it. He calls her a "niña" (which he knows annoys her) and insists. He stands in front of the car to prevent her from leaving without him. He needs to be the one driving for her security. He literally commands her, saying she's not going anywhere. Finally she relents, very grudgingly. They zoom off.

He's not taking her crap. Note that he uses "tú," the more informal version of "you" here, when ordinarily he would be saying "Usted" (more suitable for employee-employer interaction). I interpret this to mean that he is expressing his lack of respect for her at this moment.

Main Squeeze (Paula) and Guzman's sis. Something which I didn't get about not knowing who Main Squeeze's sugar daddy is? Not sure. Then Main Squeeze Grandma asks about sis's husband. Not going great there. Eh. They could use more money, but hubby won't let her work. After more chit-chat, Main Squeeze offers money. Sis refuses and then mentions that Gambling Guzman Papa could actually use some help there. Main Squeeze doesn't want anything to do with him. Uh oh, Gambling Pops is walking up. Hasty kisses goodbye and Main Squeeze rushes off. Gambling Pops has figured out that the departing car is hers, however, and kvetches to sis about it. Calls it a betrayal. Wonders why she can't be more like brother Francisco. Sis fires back something about brother enabling Pops' gambling and takes off, much to Gambling Pops' dismay.

Our comic duo, Jean Marie (he with the fetching do-rag) and the chubby cute maid are gushing over the hotness of the bodyguards. Then Big Ed arrives and they al chat in the kitchen. Something about what kind of suit Big Ed will have to wear, and in particular a tie. He doesn't want to wear anything uncomfortable. I think he's against a monkey suit. He'll go talk to Victoria about it.

This novela's comic relief, Polita and Jean Marie.

He goes to her room. Door slightly ajar but she doesn't answer. Dumbass Big Ed wanders in. Then he hears these delighted peals of laughter. I'm just guessing here but I don't think they sound like the kind of laughs that a new employee (especially one of the male persuasion) should interrupt. Dumbass Big Ed continues to explore her room to locate her. Into her bathroom. Turns out the laughs are not embarrassing (though they could have been! What the heck Big Ed!). She's laughing over a funny book while in a bubble bath. Well you know not all ladies want to have male employees see them take a bubble bath. Even employees that look like Big Ed. I'm just saying. Big Ed has a strange smile on his face as he sees her and then retreats. Yells from Sleazy Philandering Hubby drift through the air. Dumbass Big Ed tries to run for cover. Hides behind bed. Hubby lost cell phone. Uses land line to call (and hopefully locate) cell phone, RIGHT IN FRONT OF BIG ED, who is hiding and cringing behind him. Finds cell phone, all while oblivious to Big Ed's guilty crouch. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, how bizarre this whole scene was.

Taking a furtive peek at his lovely boss.

Why Big Ed! You are a peeping tom!

So close to being busted by the oblivious husband.

Guiltily hiding behind a bed as hubby stands obliviously nearby.

Oh, but it's not over! Just as Big Ed is about to escape out the door, he hears someone else's voice outside, presumably going to come in. Big Ed runs around quite comically, even trying to hide behind some drapes. He's BIG ED. He's TOO DARN BIG to hide behind drapes! He makes it out a window onto the window balcony. Nowhere else to go but down. He crosses himself (this is starting to get adorable now) and jumps over! Slow-mo of Big Ed falling. He lands on some stairs and rolls down. Seems not to be harmed. Just then Jean Marie with the fabulous do-rag comes up. Wants to know what's up. Big Ed is laying on the ground and starts to do push ups to cover for why he's there. Jean Marie is enthralled by this. "This I gotta see!" he says, and sits down to help him keep count.

Big Ed, you are simply TOO BIG to hide behind there!

Crossing himself in preparation for the Big Jump.

About ready to go!

"This I gotta see!" proclaims Jean Marie, as he settles in to help Big Ed count his push-ups.

A set of girls, one blonde, one brunette, and one redhead, waiting at an outside cafe. I had trouble interpreting this, even with CCs, but I'm pretty sure that the brunette may have had a fling with Nelson (useless dad) and is being warned by the other girls that this could cause big problems when Nicki finds out about it.

Blonde and Redhead tell Brunette that her fling with Nelson (Nicki's dad) may cause problems in Nicki's friendship.

Philandering Husband (Nelson) at work. Slutty set-up model (Kendra) comes in. She's telling Nelson that she was humiliated by his advances and she's going to quit. He looks impactado.

Guzmancito drives up with Nicki to meet the blonde, brunette and redhead. Blonde, brunette and redhead practically catcall out to the sizzling hottie (aka Guzmancito) as Nicki gets out of the car. Guzmancito is told, nastily, to stay behind. He parks the car. Girls drool over him some more, calling him a "bonbón" and "papacito." Nicki says dismissive things about him. The girls are talking with Nicki about something I missed. (Something about fighting against someone else?) Guzmancito hovers near the car. Nicki calls him over and hands him a bill and tells him to buy her a cappuccino. He says he'll be glad to accompany her as she buys it herself (I think?). She looks glum.

Some guy wearing lime green breezes up on a motorcycle. His britches are slightly baggy. He's no match for our hottie Guzmancito. He's the novio that Nicki has been ignoring. Novio with the saggy britches is angry with Nicki. Wants to know why she didn't answer his calls. He grabs her by the wrist and wants her to come with him. Guzmancito becomes more and more alert to this and is watching intently. As Saggy Britches Novio persists too much, Guzmancito steps in and orders him to let go of the Señorita! Impactado look from novio.

Guzmancito commands the saggy-britches novio to let go of the señorita.

The aforementioned señorita smiles smugly.

Big Ed is thinking out loud at the mansion, and doesn't hear Victoria's rather loud clomp clomp clomp heels as she comes down the stairs. He's worried about paying her back and is unsure about the job. She asks him what's up. He says he feels "strange" at this job. She thinks he'll adapt little by little. She says that she'd prefer him to dress a little more "formal." At this, Big Ed promptly starts to button up his chambray shirt, as if that's all it'll take! Oh, he really is adorable! Vicki says she wants him to change his "look" ("look" the English word). "My what?" he says, unfamiliar with the word. She explains that she wants him to have different clothes. She says she's got a meeting to go to and gives him car keys and says, "Let's go!"

"You need a new look!" she says.

Saggy Britches Novia-boy is telling Guzmancito to not get in the middle of this. Guzmancito isn't so inclined. Snippy Nicki tells him to stay behind, she's gonna go on Saggy Britches' bike. Guzmancito can stay behind with blonde, brunette, and redhead. Blonde Brunette and Redhead seem totally okay with this. But Guzmancito, jaw clenched, hops on a parked bike, flips the female driver over his back so she's now a passenger (soooo cheesy!), pushes away the male owner/driver of the bike, and shoots off after Nicki and Saggy Britches. Commence supposedly thrilling bike chase through the streets. Woop woop woop.

Slutty Set-up Model (Kendra) is still playing the grieved and wounded delicate flower with Vicki's worthless bum of a husband. She's gonna give Victoria her letter of resignation! Nelson (worthless husband) tries to stop her, as he doesn't want Vicki to know about this. As he's chasing her and detaining her, Grandaddy (Vicki's dad) sees them and asks what's up. Guilty looks.

Detective guy calling Main Squeeze (Paula) to report on the other woman. Detective confirms that there is a child after all. He's been asking questions around the little pueblo. A daughter was christened with the name Christina Corona. Paula is impactado.

Nelson and Slutty Setup Model spin some lie to Grandaddy. Nelson makes some veiled comment that Slutty think about his offer to her. She gives him an arched look.

Detective guy tells Paula (Main Squeeze) that he's found out many other interesting things to tell her, that he's discovered in this little pueblo. She wants to know all about it, but wait, he'll have to tell her later, because he's got detective work to do! Two women come out of the home he's been watching (presumably the home of Grandpappy's former Main Squeeze). Detective rushes to his car and starts photographing the women. Well, shocker! It's Christina (Big Ed's wife) and daughter! I wonder who the offspring of this former Main Squeeze of Grandpappy is! Any guesses? LOL.

The private detective photographs Big Ed's wife (Christina) and daughter, as they are leaving Christina's mom's house in the little pueblo.

Nicki and Saggy Britches seem to have lost Guzmancito. They stop the bike in the middle of nowhere. Nicki laughs about ditching Guzmancito. But then she starts to act a teensy bit concerned about him, commenting that he must have gotten lost in traffic. Saggy Britches tells her to forget about that, and wants to get cozy right there in the open air. Nicki, not so much. Saggy Britches starts inflicting unwanted smooches on Nicki, as she struggles and yells for help. Naturally, Guzmancito rolls up on his stolen bike to rescue her. The female passenger of the bike he apparently stole seems completely calm and sanguine during all this. Tightening my beanie!

White SUV, black SUV, black SUV following white. No symbolism there, nosiree. Vicki and Big Ed get out of White SUV. I think they're at a mall. Vicki says she senses that Big Ed is not all that keen on wearing a more formal suit. But he's her bodyguard and it's important he dress with the proper type of clothes. So she's cancelled the appointment she had before, and they're going to buy some clothes. She's really friendly and warm about it, as Big Ed stalls and sputters. She says she can tell he's not too enthusiastic about this. They chitchat about this some more as they go inside the mall. Bad guys in Black SUV are watching them as suspenseful music plays.

Big Ed seems a bit awed by the big mall they're visiting.

Back to the pathetic fight between Saggy Britches and Guzmancito. Guzmancito could easily beat the crap out of Saggy Britches, so Saggy Britches gives up after a few swipes at Guzmancito. He takes off in his bike, which leaves three people (hijacked female passenger of stolen bike, Guzmancito, and Nicki), and one bike. Okay. Guzmancito apologizes to female passenger and explains why (whatever) and she says no prob, that it was an unforgettable experience! So she's totally cool with it. She wants to know if they need a ride (how would this work?) but he says no worries. She goes to take off.

Guzmancito dispenses with Saggy Britches.

Nicki says snarky things to Guzmancito. He tersely says that look, he sees that she gets off on annoying bodyguards, but he has to put up with this because he needs the work. It would be better if they could get along, okay? She purses her lips. Conveniently a taxi rolls up right then (in what appears to be an isolated, wooded area) and she waves for it. She gets to it first and it looks like she'd keep the taxi to herself, leaving Guzmancito high and dry. But Guzmancito ain't having none of that, and pushes the taxi door open and makes his way in next to her.

Nicki smirks at Guzmancito in response to his offer that they try to get along.

Nelson (Vickie's useless husband) and scene with slutty set-up model (Kendra). Something something blah blah. I think he's talking business and saying his wife will approve Kendra's contract. (?) In response to him hitting on Kendra earlier, he says he's learned his lesson. Wants her to go to dinner with him. She says if it's okay with his wife. She agrees to go. After she leaves he says something to himself about how attractive she is and how it's going to be a lot of work to seduce her.

Slutty set-up model is leaving the building but sees Salsa-sunglasses guy and they sneak off for a word. She tells him about the dinner invitation and they talk about their nefarious plans for Victoria. She laughs that it'll be Big Ed's first (and LAST) day at work, and it'll be memorable!

Vicki has taken Big Ed to a clothing store at the mall. She's picking through the racks and trying to find something she likes. Big Ed immediately finds a very farm-handy plaid shirt that suits him just fine. Nix on that, says Vicki. There's some hilarious gesture with the sales clerk, with Vicki giving the clerk some staid jackets for Big Ed and Big Ed gesturing to the clerk that he doesn't wanna. But to no avail. Then Vicki finds a fetching pink shirt for Big Ed. Big Ed literally jumps back and recoils in HORROR at the pink shirt. "Oh no, not pink!" he shudders. He can't wear that! What will all his buddies think? Please, he wants a white shirt. She somewhat reluctantly agrees and goes to a whole wall in the store which has folded shirts stacked. She says (in English) "Large? Extra Large!" Well por supuesto he needs EXTRA large, he is Big Ed! LOL. She wants to get him four shirts. He's horrified by that too. That's too many! The whole thing is embarrassing for him, but eventually he's coaxed into trying on the clothes.

The horrifying pink shirt!

Salsa-sunglasses guy is talking on phone with an evil scarred henchmen who is hovering outside the clothing boutique. Everything's in order, he won't fail this time, call Salsa-dude for updates, yadda yadda.

Our Salsa-man plotting with his evil henchmen.

Back at the house, Nicki is praying at the porcelain god (barfing in the toilet). This is a voluntary action (sticking fingers down throat) but she seems lost and very distressed. Afterwards she brushes her teeth and weighs herself, distraught to see she is 52 kg (approx 114 pounds, which is not a lot for a girl of her height). Clearly she's got an eating disorder.

Nicki's obvious dismay after her barfing session.

Oh no! 52 kg (114 pounds). Apparently that is unacceptable for her. She's crestfallen and pinches the nonexistent "fat" on her tummy.

Guzmancito is seeking her, knocks on her door and then enters her room. She's changed into workout clothes and when she discovers him in her room, chews him out in her special, shrewish, obnoxious way. I think the conversation is more about how his status is beneath hers and she doesn't need him looking out for her. She says she can't stand his stupid smile and he'll not be long at this job. SUCH. A. BRUJA.

Tearing into poor Guzmancito again.

Vicki's looking at ties, Big Ed I guess is finally trying on his clothes. He comes out of the dressing room, quite a sight. Barefoot. Pants too long. Shirt is untucked on one side and half-unbuttoned. Jacket arms too short, shirt sleeves too long. Sophistication, thy name is NOT Big Ed. Vicki insists on putting up purple ties to his neck to see if the color suits him. Oh, Big Ed is not hot in the idea of ties. It's a pretty funny scene and I think some of the chuckles here are spontaneous from the actors. Vicki's asking for pants in a smaller size for Big Ed to try on, and gives the ties to the sales clerk.

The suit isn't fitting all that fabulously.

"Oh man, no lady, no. NO PURPLE TIES!!" Poor Big Ed looks like he's in actual pain here.

Nicki is jogging on the estate grounds. Pauses for a moment to rest, sees Guzmancito. Smirks a little to herself, then runs past him, pretending he doesn't exist. Guzmancito expresses his typical frustration and starts on after her.

Running past him, pretending he doesn't exist.

Vicki's handing Big Ed some more clothes as he's in the dressing room. He pops his head (and massive, manly chest) out of the dressing room to take the garments. Vicki seems a bit impactada at the sight of his shirtless, hunky self. But her blood pressure is elevated for a different reason just moments after, as a black-suited baddy with a gun grabs her from behind her and shushes her to be quiet.

She's impactado by his shirtless, hunkalicious self.

END OF EPISODE!

AVANCES: It looks like Nicki is drowning in the pool for real this time. Guzmancito is giving her CPR. Vicki and Big Ed have an altercation with bad guys. Big Ed, only wearing shorts (!) is shot and Vicki is crying for help in parking garage. Looks like a no-miss episode.

From the avances: Big Ed is only in his SHORTS as danger arises.

Elvira this was a wonderful recap. Just fab. You'll get the hang of the names. The chippy on the side for Grandpa is Paula. Polita is the little maid that handed Guzmancito his jacket. Nelson is the good for nothing but boinking models husband, Kendra is the model he is trying so hard to boink. Kendra and Salsero are in cahoots against Victoria.

Nikki is a snot. I wanted to say to her STFU already. She treats people like they are sooo beneath her. She needs a lesson in civility.

I actually liked the bathtub scene, it was almost a mirror of what happened yesterday with her accidently seeing him in the shower, lol. And the jump over the balconey, lol. Too funny. I am really liking Jean Marie and his French. His accent, I must say, is quite good.

Shout out to Aribeth and the characters she mentioned yesterday Rodrigo la loco and Magda, from CS 2009. This actress is almost playing the same part here, abandoning children (child) to make some moola and have a better life, comes back and wants to apologize and she cries the same way, lol.

I am liking Susana Gonzales here. What a change from LQPNA. She is a good character here, with a bad husband it seems. Her name is Beatriz here. I am surprised she didn't take that money from her Mama. I think if she had her husband Leo would have taken it.

So now another kidnap attempt on Victoria. I can't wait to see the Angel in his underwear, lol.

I do feel sorry for Nikki though in that she has such low self esteem that she thinks she is fat, I am with Carlos here, feed her please.

That clothes trying on with the Angel was a hoot too. Too big pants, jacket not large enough, hated pink shirts, cause he buddies at home would make fun of him. Personally, he would look great in a pink shirt :).

Great job, Elvira.
I do feel bad for Nikki, but I wish that she would be quiet. Her the pitch of her voice is very irritating to me. Not sure if anyone said it already but her voice screeches like fingernails on a chalkboard.
Thank goodness for the eye candy, that distracts me from the annoying voice. Nothing better than Yanez showing some skin. I agree, Madeline, Yanez would look hot in pink!!!

Thanks, Madelaine!

I had a long day and am really tired. I may add screencaps and corrections later. (I noticed a LOT of things that need to be corrected in the recap, after seeing the episode with CCs.) Did anyone notice that the English CCs were dreadful tonight? Fortunately the Spanish CCs were fine.

I think we're supposed to see Nicki as potentially sympathetic. I missed this without CCs, but it seems like she voiced concern for Guzmancito after the motorcycle chase (right?), and was worried about his safety. She really is sublimating her attraction to him by being obnoxious.

Thanks, Elvira. I fell asleep and missed the last half, so I appreciate the recap. Love Big Ed. My Hub who is a big guy is now whitehaired, but he had black hair and looked fine in pale pink. I bought him a dress shirt and a tie in that color. The balcony scene brought back memories of Big Ed constantly climbing the balcony to see Adela Noriego in Fuego en la Sangre. Loved watching him do pushups...nice.

Wow ! I missed a lot when I fell asleep...especially Big Ed in his briefs/boxers ? And there is nothing finer than a big guy in a crisp, white dressshirt. Love. SO,,,Cristina is Grandpa's love child ??? One correction ..that was Nikki calling Ralph at the john to lose her lunch, not Vikki who seems contento with her curves and herself. Saggy, baggy Novio !!!I enjoyed the comment about you barely recognizing Susana Gonzales without her bellybutton on parade. Thanks for that greal recap...fast and funny...a great way to start my busy day ahead.

Does anyone else have trouble proving that they are not robots ?

Aribeth, just read your terrific recap and posted a comment.

Elvira, perfect title. The recap had me smiling away - clever and very well done. "sleazy philandering hubby", "slutty set-up model" and "novia-boy" were my favs. And the pictures? Eduardo doing push-ups. Yup, my day is made.

I thought Ed was just adorable trying to "hide" in Vic's bedroom. Manly yet vulnerable and sweet. Killer combo. Susanlynn, I remember his scenes with

Nikki's voice also annoys me. I would have more tolerance if she said or did a few nice, kind things (her thank you to Jose Angel was mandatory being Vic's daughter so that doesn't count).

Madelaine, I also like Susana Gozales. I liked her in everything she has done, especially Pasion which I know many didn't like. She is very chameleon like and can be a superb character actress as well as leading lady.

From the preview, looks like Jose might get shot? Oh noes...

Diana

susanlynn, yes, I also have to try and prove I'm not a robot anywhere from 2 to 4 times every time I post.

Diana

Diana~~~Whew..I feel better now. I thought I was the only one struggling to prove that I am real...me and the Velveteen Rabbit. I, too, liked Pasion, but then, I like anything that TBLMOE is in....and anything with PIRATES. I think I remembered my pirate name...Mad Bess. Susana played a very different part in the bellybutton-baring novela....the name escapes me. She is a great dancer. She was in Bailando por la boda de su suenos a few years ago , so I had already become familiar with her navel...those costumes are brief. Angelique Boyer , Jackie Gonzalos, and Iran Castilla were also in that show. Captain Sharkbait and I were devotees of that show. You can see dances from it on Youtube. Liz Vega was one of our favs. Does anyone know anything about Fernando's upcoming novela ?

Thanks for the comments, everyone! I was so tired last night I just couldn't finish then. Now I'm back, much refreshed, and am starting to correct my (many) errors and also add screencaps!

So we have a bit of a mystery here. Candelaria Corona. So she had an affair with Anibal. And she was a nurse. So I wonder if she was Pilar's nurse, and had an affair with Anibal while nursing his sick/dying wife, finds she is pregnant and disappears. So we found out last night that child is Christinia wife of the Angel. I wonder how long it will be before Anibal finds out what Paula knows. Interesting.

Poor Victoria, one beatdown after another. I hope the Angel isn't that seriously hurt. Victoria is back to screaming again. I'm surprised she hasn't gotten PTSD yet.

Elvira - Fun recap. Thanks a bunch.

Maybe I'm off-base, but Victoria's sighs and giggles could've sounded like some auto-erotic action was going on. I'm shocked that Jose Angel followed the sounds to see what was up, but I couldn't stop laughing.

I was expecting Jose Angel to come out of the dress room looking GQ. But instead looks like he'll run out in his undies to save Victoria? So unexpected. Love it.

Seriously, I'm feeling bad for Christina. She's been cheated out of a wealthy inheritance and now, whether it has sunk in his head or not, Jose Angel is attracted to her (unknown) half-sister. When he met Nelson, he sized him up as one would a rival while he was all gallant and "at your service" with Anibel.

Nikki doesn't bother me so much because Francisco can easily cut through her crap. She’s a bundle of insecurities and her rudeness is a cry for help. Lucky girl that Francisco gets paid to stick around her.

Great stuff, Elvira, and great screencaps.

Still trying to get used to seeing Sebastian Rulli with short hair.

Nikki's voice is like nails on a blackboard to me. If this girl has any ideas about remaining an actress she needs voice training. She's also way too thin.

Still, she doesn't deserve the perverse situation of a friend of hers having previously been involved with her dad. There is nothing in the world that could make that acceptable.

The previews we got two weeks ago don't match the tone this series has taken on. Bad.

No villainous vibe yet from Anibal. Good.

Can't blame Paula for leaving a gambler, but why did she leave her kids with him? Horrible.

Niecie, "Jose Angel is attracted to her (unknown) half-sister. When he met Nelson, he sized him up as one would a rival" - great and insightful comments.

It did not occur to me that Jose was drawn to Christina's sister. I do feel badly for her - mostly because she is the biggest obstacle in Jose and Victoria getting together and that doesn't appear to bode well. No spoiler.

I did notice Jose's sizing up the competition. Hmmmm.

Oh God, I LOVE this recap so much. I was reading it on my phone on the bus - it was so hard not to laugh out loud. And the screencaps are yummy!
(I think the only thing missing is the Amores tag.)

Big Ed may be overacting sometimes, but he became such a great comedian. That's why I love his resurrected post-2000 career.

Guzmáncito is sooooo Patrick Swayze from Dirty Dancing.

I'm a fan of Susana since Entre el amor y el odio. However, Pasión isn't my cup of tea. I prefer Alborada.

I don't hate Nikki. Yes, she's an annoying brat so far (with serious self-esteem issues), but I keep in mind that these spoiled telenovela princesses have two kind of destinies: a) become a full force villana, b) become a better person. Since she's one of the protagonists, she's surely soften up later. Till then I fastforward most of her scenes. :P

Susanlynn-Mad Bess (I loved that old nick of yours): Fernando's new show is doing well in Mexico. Actually, all three telenovelas (AV, Porque el amor manda - Fer's show, Qué bonito amor - Jorge's show) are doing very well, thanks to Heaven. Actually, the Mexicans must have a great autumn. Imagine this schedule:
7 pm - Jorge
8 pm - Fernando
9 pm - Eduardo and Sebastián
Too much hotness to bear.

The only problem with Fer's new show is that he has too many obsessed fans on Mexican forums, and I can't stomach how they talk about other actors. He's such a lovely guy and an okay actor but that fanbase is worse than the Twi-hards.

Madelaine: you asked me about my Zodiac sign - yes, I'm an Aquarius (Feb 17). :) (And my Chinese sign is pig. Ahem.)

As for the the Candelaria-gate: I have the impression that Victoria's mom died approximately 20 years ago, only a few months/a year before Paula left her family for Aníbal. Victoria is around 42-44 and she knew her mother.

LOL Aribeth, thanks for the thumbs up! And thank you everyone else for your kind comments. (I added the Amores tag, thanks for reminding me, Aribeth!)

I agree, it's almost too much to bear to have back-to-back hunkalicious on Televisa. Jorge, Fernando AND Rulli and Big Ed? Wow!

Thanks Elvira---I am so into "UN REFUGIO" that I don't think this one will be one of my favorites but had to watch because of Sherlyn. I hope that she geta a leading role soon.

I am always slow to get up to speed, am still trying to learn all of the characters. I recognized the guy with the sunglasses from "Clase 406" I guess he's a villain in this one. Susana Gonzalez was so hot in LQNPA, I didn't recognize her with her plain Jane hair style last night. Women can so completely change their looks.

Nicki/Eiza Gonzalez is such a spoiled rich girl "OK" but I guess that she will mellow out before too long. With a body guard like that??? Well.

The department store scene last night was a hoot
I guess it's hard to take the country out of a guy

Great recap, Elvira. I can't think of anything important that you might have omitted.

I'm really enjoying Eduardo Yáñez in this and it looks as though he's having a lot of fun with this part. Hiding beside the bed it looked as though he was trying to make himself small (uh, good luck with that) and then tried to hide his face with his hand (very effective).

His mock crying over Victoria's efforts for his makeover at the department store was also very funny.

Though José Ángel was the most entertaining last night, I once again got a real kick out of Nikki. I think her voice is actually rather pleasant (maybe a touch of deafness helps with that) and her lines are some of the best so far... OK?

Carlos

Elvira- Thanks so much for the wonderful recap and pics. I enjoyed all your nicknames for everyone. :)

I know it's silly, but I am enjoying how this tn doesn't take itself seriously and has a funny vibe. Love Jose Angel's goofiness. The only two things I don't like is the lack of real motive for the villains, and Niki's voice, OKAY?

Carlos and Gringo- I'm glad that you are better able to appreciate Niki.

I always wonder when they find an actress thin enough to play an anorexic if she actually is. The actress is awfully thin, in a Mexican tn world where most of the actresses are not as stick thin as they are here.

Carlos, you just have a soft spot in your heart for Nikki. :-) That's okay. -LOL

Tablet jefa, I do, I do, but it's more like a fatherly or uncly concern rather than any physical attraction. I suspect that before this is over, she will have become a favorite of most everyone here. Vivi, I would have thought that you would be enjoying the way she mixes English into conversations. I crack up every time she says plis and of course I love hearing her say porfis.

Carlos

It's interesting how we have a Pygmalion role reversal (Victoria and Jose Angel) along with a Shrew Taming (Francisco and Nikki).

Again with the secret daughter who will end up becoming a plot point. Anyone ready to predict what Anibal will do when he finds Christina? Will he prefer her over Victoria because of who her mother was?

Thank you for the recap... EY is having fun.. I'm having fun watching this. Picture Nikki's skin colored blue and one sees an Avatar..
I am loving this. Can't wait till a friend arrives from Mexico to give me a glimpse of the future.. I won't spoil it for anyone

Thank you, Elvira. What an entertaining recap. Great job.

I am watching this with one eye -- I just can't watch two TNs carefully right now and I'm seriously hooked on Amor Bravio. But could Guzmancito be any more attractive? And, could Victoria and Jose Angel be any cuter together?

As for Nikki, the voice, the look, the snottiness. Hard to believe that this is the same actress who was so good and natural in Lola erase una vez. I'm giving her time, with my one eye. I did read that the actress lost 15 lbs. to play this role.

Regarding the way Guzman flipped that woman over on the motorcycle, my daughter said the same thing you said, "Cheesy." Not to mention it's the same move Jason Statham did on the jet ski in Transporter II (so embarrassed to reveal that I've seen it!). But this guy is so hawt that all must be forgiven.

So we've got a similar LQNPA situation with the two half sisters with the same galan, just like Rogelio, Ana Paula and Vanesa.

I too find Nikki's voice grating, but I think I'm already getting used to it. I think she is very pretty, so that helps tolerate her, plus it's obvious from the opening credit shots that she gets with Guzman so to watch this TN she must be assimilated (by viewerville).

yes - Rulli = caliente!
agree - Nikki's voice is irksome.

I think that Guzmancito is a hottie, but I think he was channelling the Fonz last night.

This is great, Elvira. Missed your recaps.
