Amores Verdaderos #5 Tue 11/13/12 Praying to Porcelain Gods and Frustrated Hunks
Big Ed taking a furtive peek at his jefa, reading in her bubblebath. Why, Big Ed! You're a married man! |
Big Ed, after jumping out a second story window (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!) covers for himself by pretending to be doing push-ups. |
"Guzmancito" (Francisco Guzman, aka Sebastian Rulli) is singularly unamused by Nicki's snarky and spoiled attitude. |
Meet the hunky bodyguards. |
Beatriz (Francisco's sister) explains to Paula (Main Squeeze) that Francisco is reluctant to forgive Main Squeeze for abandoning the family when he was a mere adolescent. |
This novela's comic relief, Polita and Jean Marie. |
Taking a furtive peek at his lovely boss. |
Why Big Ed! You are a peeping tom! |
So close to being busted by the oblivious husband. |
Guiltily hiding behind a bed as hubby stands obliviously nearby. |
Big Ed, you are simply TOO BIG to hide behind there! |
Crossing himself in preparation for the Big Jump. |
About ready to go! |
"This I gotta see!" proclaims Jean Marie, as he settles in to help Big Ed count his push-ups. |
Blonde and Redhead tell Brunette that her fling with Nelson (Nicki's dad) may cause problems in Nicki's friendship. |
Guzmancito commands the saggy-britches novio to let go of the señorita. |
The aforementioned señorita smiles smugly. |
"You need a new look!" she says. |
The private detective photographs Big Ed's wife (Christina) and daughter, as they are leaving Christina's mom's house in the little pueblo. |
Big Ed seems a bit awed by the big mall they're visiting. |
Guzmancito dispenses with Saggy Britches. |
Nicki smirks at Guzmancito in response to his offer that they try to get along. |
The horrifying pink shirt! |
Our Salsa-man plotting with his evil henchmen. |
Nicki's obvious dismay after her barfing session. |
Oh no! 52 kg (114 pounds). Apparently that is unacceptable for her. She's crestfallen and pinches the nonexistent "fat" on her tummy. |
Tearing into poor Guzmancito again. |
The suit isn't fitting all that fabulously. |
"Oh man, no lady, no. NO PURPLE TIES!!" Poor Big Ed looks like he's in actual pain here. |
Running past him, pretending he doesn't exist. |
She's impactado by his shirtless, hunkalicious self. |
From the avances: Big Ed is only in his SHORTS as danger arises. |
Labels: Amores
Nikki is a snot. I wanted to say to her STFU already. She treats people like they are sooo beneath her. She needs a lesson in civility.
I actually liked the bathtub scene, it was almost a mirror of what happened yesterday with her accidently seeing him in the shower, lol. And the jump over the balconey, lol. Too funny. I am really liking Jean Marie and his French. His accent, I must say, is quite good.
Shout out to Aribeth and the characters she mentioned yesterday Rodrigo la loco and Magda, from CS 2009. This actress is almost playing the same part here, abandoning children (child) to make some moola and have a better life, comes back and wants to apologize and she cries the same way, lol.
I am liking Susana Gonzales here. What a change from LQPNA. She is a good character here, with a bad husband it seems. Her name is Beatriz here. I am surprised she didn't take that money from her Mama. I think if she had her husband Leo would have taken it.
So now another kidnap attempt on Victoria. I can't wait to see the Angel in his underwear, lol.
That clothes trying on with the Angel was a hoot too. Too big pants, jacket not large enough, hated pink shirts, cause he buddies at home would make fun of him. Personally, he would look great in a pink shirt :).
I do feel bad for Nikki, but I wish that she would be quiet. Her the pitch of her voice is very irritating to me. Not sure if anyone said it already but her voice screeches like fingernails on a chalkboard.
Thank goodness for the eye candy, that distracts me from the annoying voice. Nothing better than Yanez showing some skin. I agree, Madeline, Yanez would look hot in pink!!!
I had a long day and am really tired. I may add screencaps and corrections later. (I noticed a LOT of things that need to be corrected in the recap, after seeing the episode with CCs.) Did anyone notice that the English CCs were dreadful tonight? Fortunately the Spanish CCs were fine.
I think we're supposed to see Nicki as potentially sympathetic. I missed this without CCs, but it seems like she voiced concern for Guzmancito after the motorcycle chase (right?), and was worried about his safety. She really is sublimating her attraction to him by being obnoxious.
Elvira, perfect title. The recap had me smiling away - clever and very well done. "sleazy philandering hubby", "slutty set-up model" and "novia-boy" were my favs. And the pictures? Eduardo doing push-ups. Yup, my day is made.
I thought Ed was just adorable trying to "hide" in Vic's bedroom. Manly yet vulnerable and sweet. Killer combo. Susanlynn, I remember his scenes with
Nikki's voice also annoys me. I would have more tolerance if she said or did a few nice, kind things (her thank you to Jose Angel was mandatory being Vic's daughter so that doesn't count).
Madelaine, I also like Susana Gozales. I liked her in everything she has done, especially Pasion which I know many didn't like. She is very chameleon like and can be a superb character actress as well as leading lady.
From the preview, looks like Jose might get shot? Oh noes...

Poor Victoria, one beatdown after another. I hope the Angel isn't that seriously hurt. Victoria is back to screaming again. I'm surprised she hasn't gotten PTSD yet.
Maybe I'm off-base, but Victoria's sighs and giggles could've sounded like some auto-erotic action was going on. I'm shocked that Jose Angel followed the sounds to see what was up, but I couldn't stop laughing.
I was expecting Jose Angel to come out of the dress room looking GQ. But instead looks like he'll run out in his undies to save Victoria? So unexpected. Love it.
Seriously, I'm feeling bad for Christina. She's been cheated out of a wealthy inheritance and now, whether it has sunk in his head or not, Jose Angel is attracted to her (unknown) half-sister. When he met Nelson, he sized him up as one would a rival while he was all gallant and "at your service" with Anibel.
Nikki doesn't bother me so much because Francisco can easily cut through her crap. She’s a bundle of insecurities and her rudeness is a cry for help. Lucky girl that Francisco gets paid to stick around her.
Still trying to get used to seeing Sebastian Rulli with short hair.
Nikki's voice is like nails on a blackboard to me. If this girl has any ideas about remaining an actress she needs voice training. She's also way too thin.
Still, she doesn't deserve the perverse situation of a friend of hers having previously been involved with her dad. There is nothing in the world that could make that acceptable.
The previews we got two weeks ago don't match the tone this series has taken on. Bad.
No villainous vibe yet from Anibal. Good.
Can't blame Paula for leaving a gambler, but why did she leave her kids with him? Horrible.
It did not occur to me that Jose was drawn to Christina's sister. I do feel badly for her - mostly because she is the biggest obstacle in Jose and Victoria getting together and that doesn't appear to bode well. No spoiler.
I did notice Jose's sizing up the competition. Hmmmm.

(I think the only thing missing is the Amores tag.)
Big Ed may be overacting sometimes, but he became such a great comedian. That's why I love his resurrected post-2000 career.
Guzmáncito is sooooo Patrick Swayze from Dirty Dancing.
I'm a fan of Susana since Entre el amor y el odio. However, Pasión isn't my cup of tea. I prefer Alborada.
I don't hate Nikki. Yes, she's an annoying brat so far (with serious self-esteem issues), but I keep in mind that these spoiled telenovela princesses have two kind of destinies: a) become a full force villana, b) become a better person. Since she's one of the protagonists, she's surely soften up later. Till then I fastforward most of her scenes. :P
Susanlynn-Mad Bess (I loved that old nick of yours): Fernando's new show is doing well in Mexico. Actually, all three telenovelas (AV, Porque el amor manda - Fer's show, Qué bonito amor - Jorge's show) are doing very well, thanks to Heaven. Actually, the Mexicans must have a great autumn. Imagine this schedule:
7 pm - Jorge
8 pm - Fernando
9 pm - Eduardo and Sebastián
Too much hotness to bear.
The only problem with Fer's new show is that he has too many obsessed fans on Mexican forums, and I can't stomach how they talk about other actors. He's such a lovely guy and an okay actor but that fanbase is worse than the Twi-hards.
Madelaine: you asked me about my Zodiac sign - yes, I'm an Aquarius (Feb 17). :) (And my Chinese sign is pig. Ahem.)
As for the the Candelaria-gate: I have the impression that Victoria's mom died approximately 20 years ago, only a few months/a year before Paula left her family for Aníbal. Victoria is around 42-44 and she knew her mother.
I agree, it's almost too much to bear to have back-to-back hunkalicious on Televisa. Jorge, Fernando AND Rulli and Big Ed? Wow!
I am always slow to get up to speed, am still trying to learn all of the characters. I recognized the guy with the sunglasses from "Clase 406" I guess he's a villain in this one. Susana Gonzalez was so hot in LQNPA, I didn't recognize her with her plain Jane hair style last night. Women can so completely change their looks.
Nicki/Eiza Gonzalez is such a spoiled rich girl "OK" but I guess that she will mellow out before too long. With a body guard like that??? Well.
The department store scene last night was a hoot
I guess it's hard to take the country out of a guy
the gringo
I'm really enjoying Eduardo Yáñez in this and it looks as though he's having a lot of fun with this part. Hiding beside the bed it looked as though he was trying to make himself small (uh, good luck with that) and then tried to hide his face with his hand (very effective).
His mock crying over Victoria's efforts for his makeover at the department store was also very funny.
Though José Ángel was the most entertaining last night, I once again got a real kick out of Nikki. I think her voice is actually rather pleasant (maybe a touch of deafness helps with that) and her lines are some of the best so far... OK?
Carlos
I know it's silly, but I am enjoying how this tn doesn't take itself seriously and has a funny vibe. Love Jose Angel's goofiness. The only two things I don't like is the lack of real motive for the villains, and Niki's voice, OKAY?
Carlos and Gringo- I'm glad that you are better able to appreciate Niki.
I always wonder when they find an actress thin enough to play an anorexic if she actually is. The actress is awfully thin, in a Mexican tn world where most of the actresses are not as stick thin as they are here.
Carlos
Again with the secret daughter who will end up becoming a plot point. Anyone ready to predict what Anibal will do when he finds Christina? Will he prefer her over Victoria because of who her mother was?
I am loving this. Can't wait till a friend arrives from Mexico to give me a glimpse of the future.. I won't spoil it for anyone
I am watching this with one eye -- I just can't watch two TNs carefully right now and I'm seriously hooked on Amor Bravio. But could Guzmancito be any more attractive? And, could Victoria and Jose Angel be any cuter together?
As for Nikki, the voice, the look, the snottiness. Hard to believe that this is the same actress who was so good and natural in Lola erase una vez. I'm giving her time, with my one eye. I did read that the actress lost 15 lbs. to play this role.
So we've got a similar LQNPA situation with the two half sisters with the same galan, just like Rogelio, Ana Paula and Vanesa.
I too find Nikki's voice grating, but I think I'm already getting used to it. I think she is very pretty, so that helps tolerate her, plus it's obvious from the opening credit shots that she gets with Guzman so to watch this TN she must be assimilated (by viewerville).
