Refugio Para el Amor #147 Fri 11/2/12 You say yes!! I say no!! You say WHY!! and I say HELL NO, I WON'T GO!! ... now Mi Janita esta contenta y su mamita esta' asfixia!!

Refrito:
Repeat of Boris provoking Lorenzo and Fabi stopping Lore but Lore saying Boris is right, Lore cannot offer Janah what Boris can (or like he will say later, he can only offer her ‘pan hoy y hambre manana’ bread today and hunger tomorrow)

Rod telling Janah RE already lived her life and is now collecting on what she invested. Live your life and not the life your mother wants to live through you.

Rod confirms to Janah that Pato and Luci left for SFeA.

Chelo and Mateo at the park, Mateo works Chelo into agreeing to buy him an ice cream.

At Het Het Paz insists to Luci to call Rod back. Luci says came home to avoid him. Paz says you cannot avoid him forever, you work together and have a son together…

Rod is buying Alexia a chocolate ice cream and in come Chelo with Mateo wearing a green turtle mask. Mateo recognizes Rod and calls him by name, to the astonishment of both Rod and Chelo. Rod introduces himself to CHelo and then tells the turtle that he has not had the pleasure… Mateo takes off the mask and Rod recognizes him finally and greets him. Glad to see you again (hand shake). Mateo asks why he has not stopped by to buy another paper… Rod’s cell phone rings, he politely excuses himself to answer but there is no one at the other end, although from the image that the phone showed him he can tell it was Luci. (we get a glimpse of a flustered Luci unwilling to talk) Rod wakes up from his shock quickly enough to introduce the kids that he does not know are both his children to each other. Rod smiles at the kids shaking hands.

Lo Nuevo:

Mat: Look, dad, Rodrigo’s daughter does go to school!
Alex: You don’t?
Chelo: Well, they still won’t take him in, he is still too young.
Mat: That is not true! I am big. I just turned five!!
Chelo: Well, they still won’t take him in the kinder at the neighborhood.
Mat: Then what do I do, dad?
Rod: Well, please don’t take this as an interference from me, but I think Mateo should be going to school already… if you allow me, I can offer my help…
Chelo: No way jose.. I don’t know you and I won’t let you do anything!… lets go, son!
Mat: But … what about my ice cream??
Chelo: I will buy you a popsicle on the way (home)! Lets go, son!
Mat: But make it vanilla flavor! Goodbye Rodrigo! Goodbye Alexia!! (he looks so cute waving his hand goodbye to both Rod and Alexia. Rod and Alex both wave back to him)
Rod: Goodbye Mateo!
Alex: Dad, isn’t it true Mateo should be at school like me? He is already 5 y.o.! he is big!
Rod: Yes, mi amor, Mateo is big. He should be at school already. He is 5 years old now. (then he whispers lower to himself) he is 5 years old.. like my son Rodrigo.

At Het Het Paz has words of wisdom for Luci: Mija, even if you hang up on Rod a thousand times, your heart will keep on calling out for him. I can understand your big sorrow, things did not start on the right foot between you two, and when you both wanted to right the ship, others had put too many stones in the way(I would say boulders!) in the way! Too many lies, too many dirty tricks! … to prevent you two from being together!
Luci: What do I do now? Its been 5 years! And I keep on loving him even knowing we can’t be together.
Paz: Keep on loving him, mija. But in silence. Don’t shout out your love because the only thing you will hear is the echo of your pain! Love him with dignity, in silence, giving yourself your place. And without forgetting there is a child out there waiting to be found. That child will join you two for live, Luci.. .forever.

Chelo bought Mateo a vanilla popsicle. Mateo wants to know why CHelo is angry. Chelo claims he is not angry, he just does not like what the people talk about when they go out together. Mateo tells him who cares what they say or if they make fun of us. Don’t think I have not noticed.  But the truth is you are my dad and I am your son. So what does it matter.  (you can tell this kid is very mature for his age, and that Chelo is moved by his words).

RE is battering Connie for her intention to marry Oscar. What do you mean you will marry Oscar when you are married?? (Mati tries to help saying Connie divorced just after Aldo was born, but RE takes it as offense). RE wants to believe Connie has NOT forgotten that she married by church and although she is divorced, to the eyes of God she is married… Connie says RE’s actions of the past are worse than her intention to get married being FOR LOVE… RE changes tactic to play sad bystander… and she starts to pray with her hands on Connie’s head that God forgive her for her sin and save her soul when she is in God’s presence. Connie is in disbelief, Mati is nodding ‘my God!’

Max is at the apartment, but there’s no Vicky… he calls Celina (his sec at TL offices) to call his wife to tell her he went out on business but will make it home before dinner time (before the asking for Janah’s hand )  At Nicole’s salon, Nicole and Vicky are counting money that looks way too shiny (do they brush some nail polish on the money for practice?)  Vicky tells Nicole she does plan to go meet Max but she wants him to wait some… Vicky assures to Nicole that Max won’t get the SUV back, no matter what he tries. She is going to the apt, but Max will not get the hanky panky he expects.

Chelo and Mateo get home. Chelo wants Mateo to promise he won’t talk to Rodrigo or anyone else ever again.  Mateo says he will still sell the papers to Rod… so Chelo has to give in on that one. Mateo asks Chelo not to be mad at him, yo te quiero mucho. Hug

At Het Het Pato is telling Magda and Paz about Janah returning home after 5 yrs in Italy getting her architecture degree. Tonight Boris parents will ask for her hand in marriage. Paz wonders if Janah is too young for that. Pato says she is not that young anymore although there are some things that even if we don’t agree with them, they can’t change.

At Vio’s business carwash, Lorenzo is walking around remembering Boris’ words and looking very somber…

At TL offices, Oscar is in Janah’s offices doing work stuff… tomorrow she will be introduced to the whole team. The team lead will take her (saying will hold her hand). In comes Boris without knocking or excusing himself…
(this I have to script word for word, it is too good, Oscar is an awesome role and Harry G. is great in it. And poor Janah can only limit herself to roll eyes and yell ‘Boris!’ often)
B: I hope the ‘hand holding’ thing was just speaking figuratively.
O: Excuse me, Boris, why do you waltz in without knocking first?
B: No, there is no need for me to knock before coming in because this is my fiance’s office.
O: (a bit later) … let me tell you that in this office you have to make an appointment before showing up and have to follow the rules.
B: I don’t get why you tell me this… (scans Oscar with his eyes in undermining mode from bottom to top) Oscar!… Janah is the daughter of the owner of the company and I can visit her whenever I want to.
O: You are very wrong. Here there are two major stockowners and many smaller stockowners, including me. And we manage this consorcio very different (than you would think). So if you want to come in, respect the rules. Good afternoon, Janah.
B: No manches, Janah, this guy is a jerk! But things will change when we are married!
J: They WON”T change! This is my place of work. And even though I am the daughter of MTL, I am an employee like any other, with the same rights and responsibilities. Got it??
(the Janah table at the Patio is cheering in approval: ‘NUFF SAID!! YOU GO GIRL!!…)

At the penthouse apartment, Vicky is letting Max slurp her neck but she is a block of ice… he notices and questions her on it. She comes up with ‘we haven’t been together so long I want us to go slow’ excuse.

RE calls Gala to summon her to come with Rod for the dinner party. Rod comes home with Alexia and Gala rejects Alexia’s attempt to greet her with a hug because Alexia has dirty hands (chocolate ice cream?). Rod witnesses the ‘motherly love… NOT!’ scene so he rats at her for her lack of motherly love (did you really expect any different, Rod?). Gala won’t let Alexia dirty up her clothing. Rod is just dropping Alexia home, have to go back to the office.  Gala keeps nagging nagging… Rod keeps nagging back ‘you are such a good mother!’ and leaves. Gala yells at Brigida to serve comida.
Poor Alexia is basically ordered by Gala to eat liver with broccoli/peas/carrot puree… YUCK!! The poor thing was asking Brigida if she had prepared her favorite chicken dish. Later Gala is still forcing Alexia to eat the liver and the whole puree… ‘if you want to be as pretty as I am, you have to eat what I tell you’.(YIKES!!!) ‘you did not eat it right when they served it and now it is cold and tastes even worse, but you still have to eat it! (DOUBLE YIKES!!! Even Brigida behind the wall is making faces at Gala’s behavior. As a mother, even I get gurgles at watching Gala force Alexia to eat and Alexia calling for her dad to get home already. ‘Papi, ven!!”)

At the other dinner table, CHelo, Mateo and Chuy are having dinner. Mateo is so funny noting he did wash his hands but CHelo hasn’t.  Chelo has to go wash his hands or Chuy won’t serve him.

At Het Het another dinner table? Paz, Ariche, Luci, Pato, Magda and Namurachi… Luci is saying grace and praying her son also has something to eat. Such a cheerful dinner party there… as always.

At office, Oscar compliments Rod on his taking the time to be the best father he can. Rod says Alexia is the only motivation for him to come home. He just has one look at her and my live gets brighter.

At Het Het they all are taking Pato for a stroll through town… and they just missed a call from Rod’s cell to Paz’ house. Rod is a bit flustered.

The nannie and Brigida are both feeling bad for Alexia, but Brigida discourages any attempt to rock the boat because Gala would kick them both to the curb immediately.

Julie tells her friend Carola(Thanks, Madelaine!) that she can’t allow Gala to ruin what they have invested so much time and effort… she won’t be without the TL fortune… Carola asks what will you do now? … flirt with Max… Really?... no! I am going after Claudio Linares again. Can you imagine Luci’s reaction that besides I am Rod’s MIL, I will be her own step mom??  (dream on, B____H!! Claudio is not your typical shallow brained target... )

At Het Het they are walking through town… Luci and Pato compliment each other’s efforts… They also talk about Pato wanting to continue his strive for walking. But what he is thankful for is that from the plane of the chair, he has learned to see people through their hearts.

At apartment, Vicky tells Max she wants to progress to own her own business… Max berates her that he did not come to talk about her business ownership dreams but to sleep with her. Vicky continues playing hard to get and leaves, ‘say hi to your wife. Bye’

In his car, Boris continues to be a pest to Janah… he has a surprise for her tonight. She is less than amused. Are you mad at me? … lets see, I want to clear the road… I don’t like for you to visit me at work. IF I went to Florence to study architecture, it was to put it into practice when I returned home.!!  Boris can’t even get her to smile at him. Gets a forced smirk instead.

Lorenzo talks to Vio … also tells her Boris is right… what can I offer Janah? ‘pan pa’ hoy y hambre pa’ manana’ Vio does not want him to talk that way. If the rich always were the better options, maybe Rod would be very happy now with Luci and she would not have left the hospital or lost her child… You are a very good taquero and with honor! You have progressed so much, you have 12 bikes with a locale… Lorenzo says there is a long way to go still, but already saving to buy a house… Vio says see? That is what gives you value/worth, you are on the way… You are great Lorenzo, and that ‘Boris’, all he has to offer is that he was born with silver spoon. He’s not even as handsome as you… Lorenzo thanks Vio for the encouragement..

Janah gets home mad. Mati tells her RE went out shopping with Genaro, is so enthused with tonight’s dinner… Janah not so much. Mati understands Janah is not enthused because she is not in love. Mati won’t try to keep communicating Janah with Lorenzo. Janah thanks her for telling her about Lorenzo everytime they talked… ‘each time you talked to me about him I felt like I had him with me, and yet we were so far…’

Alexia has fallen asleep at the table… Gala shouts for Brigida which scares Alexia, Gala tells Brigida to save the dinner in the fridge to serve again to Alexia tomorrow(Witch!!) and you will go to bed without your usual milk merienda. So tomorrow you will be hungry and will eat your food… (double witch!!)  Gala tells herself ‘poor thing, but if your dad won’t give me the time of day, someone will have to deal with the broken dishes’. Rod gets home, wants to see Alexia, but Gala says no and lies saying Alexia already had her night cereal of color animals. She hurries him to get ready, RE wants them to be on time for the dinner… Rod won’t engage in the fight so he heads to the shower..

At Het Het they are packing the current order for the hotel chain… tons of packing tape and bubble wrap everywhere…  Magda says she and Paz are the Quality Control dept. LOL! Pato compliments them for their achievement these last 5 yrs. Luci passes the compliments to Paz, Magda, Namurachi and everyone else.

Julie is visiting Claudio at office… She wants him to stop calling her Julieta.  She wants him to invite her somewhere for a drink. He is too busy.. ‘julie!’. She says it must be something about the men in this business… none go home to spend time with wives. She says he needs someone to pamper him and keep him company. Claudio says he got that with his daughter Luci… Julie keeps swinging the bat and wants to talk about ‘OUR present and OUR future’… Claudio gets serious… Julie walks behind his desk and starts with some speech that he is young, that he needs to rebuild his life, he is handsome and very interesting. They say the true 30’s begin at 50’s. Claudio says the same thing he told Luci already, he is not interested in marrying again because he feels he is still in love with his late wife. Julie then won’t go home empty handed so she makes him comply to them going out to keep each other company with no commitments.

At TL manor, RE is at her three sided mirror vanity, talks with Mati about not seeing herself as pretty as before, then she starts with some analogy about having put on too much makeup, and the lighting in the room in the evening not being enough… in darkness everything gets merged and blurry… Janah comes in. Turns out RE bought her the dress for tonight ‘I went alone so no one would influence in my decision..’. (man!! How appropriate for RE’s daughter ‘ask for hand’ dinner party… a solid black sheath… I would expect this to come right out of RE’s own closet rather than Janah… she wants Janay to follow her footsteps for sure… the sheath for her dressing style and the black color because this is her ‘execution’ party for sure!) Janah protests because she bought many nice dresses in Italy and wanted to wear one of them tonight… RE insists so Janah again has to roll her eyes and please mom dearest.. Again RE looks like a girl playing doll house, and Mati behind her nodding in disbelief…

At Het Het Don Aquiles does not want Luci or her town tour party to see that he is crippled… or that he keeps company with a baboso like Procopio… so they hide as the Luci party walks/rolls by.

Brigida brings Alexia a plate of sincronizadas (like the flat Mexican tostadas at taco bell) with chocolate milk. Alexia is very thankful.

At the dinner party at TL manor, Gala is cackling about her perfect marriage and relationship with Rod… She pressures Rod to say something… so he says ‘Gala is a woman like there are none anymore’ (LOL!)… Janah is sick enough with Gala’s speeches that she summons Melissa so they can leave the table for a few minutes…
It is Boris’ parents turn to babble… Aldo is having fun with allt his… Rod is sucking a sour grape, Gala is smiling widely..

Janah shouts to Melissa that she does not want to get married. That RE wants to control her life, and to destroy her life like she destroyed Rod’s.. it is choking her, but she would not forgive herself if something happens to RE. maybe it is the destiny of the TL.. to be unhappy and never to know happiness…

Lorenzo calls Luci to release some sorrows… don’t say anything, just listen… I am dying of sadness… as we are talking now, they are asking for my Janitah’s hand in marriage. And I can’t do anything!! I love her more than anything in the world… And if she gets married, what do I do with this love?? Where do I throw it?? How do I make it so it won’t hurt?? (oh man!… I feel Lorenzo’s pain, I want these two in their own novella SO BAD!!)

At exec dinner, RE gets to the point… Boris’ dad formally requests from RE and Max the hand of Janah in marriage for his son Boris… Janah is short of breath and explodes… NO!!! I won’t get married to Boris!! (everyone is shocked quiet… Max smirks… Melissa smiles in approval and we can tell Rod, Connie, and Oscar feel this was for the better, but they are giving a controlled reaction to not make the awkward moment worse... I can't see Aldo but he must be enjoying this...)

Previews: Next Ep is not until Wednesday!!  VO: Courage wins over fear!
Mati calls Lore to let him know Janah did not get engaged, Lore can’t hide his joy/relief… we see Lore and Janah have a very steamy meeting (apparently at the place where they cook the tacos) with kisses and hand holding… Rod calls Luci… ‘we can’t be separated. We have a son to find and if we stick together we will find him! (i will add a little word of wisdom for Boris... quien rie al ultimo, rie mejor!)

I am ready to sign a lease for my spot at a HUGE HUGE table pro-Janah/Lorenzo at the Patio, serving Italian ices charged with your fav liquor with tacos de chicharron and tacos de papa…

SuperMarta- What a great wonderful recap and thanks so much for the convo details. Have I mentioned lately how much I hate the Skankarella? How could she do that to poor Alexia that is child abuse pure and simple to take revenge on the child cause she can't do it to the husband. I really hope Alexia rats her out. Thank goodness Frigid apparently has a heart. Who knew. I am so glad she brought poor Alexia something good to eat.

Ha! The Champagne Queen will never get anywhere with Claudio, but it will be fun to watch her ply her wiles on him and be rejected, lol. Oh, Julie's friends name is Carola.

Yay, Jana. I am so glad she stood up for herself and said she wouldn't marry Bore-us. And Speaking of Bore-us the nerve of that putz for looking down his nose at Oscar. I can't stand Bore-us. I am really happy for Jana and hope she sticks to her guns and doesn't cave just to "save" her la loca mama.

I felt bad for Lor. The poor guy is so in love with Jana it was breaking his heart when he thought Jana would marry Bore-us. Glad in the previews he found out she turned Bore-us down.

Jana really looked like she was having a panic attack. The poor thing, but glad, so glad she did what she did and even when la loca yelled at her to come back, she kept going! Yay!

What is wrong with la loca?? She is loca, to pray over Conny like that, like she is some kind of priest and can get Dios to forgive her sins? Didn't Conny say that Rosa's sins were far worse than anything Conny did? Conny was so right. Conny will not listen to la loca. La loca is sliding further into madness that's for sure.

I worry Don Chelo will now keep Mateo away from Rod, I hope that doesn't happen. I like the dynamic between Don Chelo and Mateo, don't get me wrong, but I want Mateo/lil Roddy with his Papa and Mama pronto.

Don Chelo will try to keep Mateo away from Rod but he will fail for the call of the blood has begun to move Mateo and Rod already. This will be painful I think for Mateo and Chelo but the DNA bond will win out. Maybe Chelo could be his 'grandfather' in place of Max who should land up in jail.

Perfect title ( and now the song is stuck in my head)! Thanks Marta, brilliant as always, especially appreciate the Oscar/Boring convo. My cell always rings at moments like that, so you are a treasure getting that down.

Speaking of the twit, can we take it this sorry excuse doesn't work and is basically a rich kid slug? Oscar taking him to task was brilliant, but you can tell it rally made no impact, which is why we need to order that anvil for Boring ASAP.

I don't think Janna refusing to get engaged is going to stop RE from pushing Boring to take drastic measures to ensure Janna and Lorenzo don't hook up. She basically announced she would do that anyway and lord knows she keeps THOSE kind of promises. Seeing how Janna was in full force panic attack was heart-breaking. I will be very interested to see/hear what Max says. If Janna is his princess, he better step as king and support her.

And help me here...but what is this formality of the boy's parents asking for the girls hand? Hello Dark Ages? Were they going to have a jousting tournament when dinner was over or the parents retire to the study to discuss the dowry? Gees, how archaic.

But those previews with Janna/Lucious....er Lorenzo--so help me, dream sequence and I'll hurt someone. We need some really good romance in this show, and frankly, really don't want it coming from Rod right now.

The whole "eat your liver" with GTM and Alexia...OMG. I can't even....and the poor little thing still kisses her "mother" goodnight and it's wiped off? Nope...I can't or there will be a hole in my wall from my fist going into it.

Poor Brandon--he must have had one sore rear end from bouncing down those cobbled streets. Was almost funny to watch (bet they had fun filming as well). I love seeing him happy, and frankly, seeing a real smile and laughter coming from Luce as well. Of course, Rod calls and she turns to Debbie-downer again. Can't he just leave her alone for awhile? This is all about HIM wanting her around and not caring about what's best for her right now. Dumbass...go take care of your daughter who needs you.

Melissa needs to scratch Julie's eyes out...just sayin'.

As for dear little Matteo--hand washing scene, priceless. His smle, I melt. That hug for his "papa". I teared. They need to do something with this plot to have him have a better transition to being R/L's son. And if Chelo is around, needs to be in that boy's life somehow. Otherwise, unacceptable to just have him "found" and taken away.

I think somehow "school" is going to come into play in getting Matteo hooked up with R/L, but could we see another FF to allow for time to build a relationship perhaps with Alexia or get Luce/Pato involved since Pato has that foundation to help school kids. They are the only two, besides Vio, who know about the medal. Perplexing....

I'll be happy to help bartend the patio since my services are ending for Abismo ( thank the heavens). Any special orders?

Sorry for being long-winded, but couldn't sleep and last night's episode kept playing thru my head.

Great one, Marta. This rocks.

I don't know what I find more objectionable about Roselena: The religious hypocrisy or the way she treats her children like possessions. When are Connie and Max going to finally lash out and say "Basta!"?

Speaking as a daughter of a narcissistic mother who was thought attractive, I can say that even turning the daughter into a mini-me will never make the narcissist happy. What Gala and Roselena both want is to share their misery with as many people as possible, especially their daughters. I was cringing when Gala said "If you want to be pretty like me..." because I heard my mother's voice in that.

At least my mother didn't try to force me to eat cold liver. I completely agree that what she was doing to Alexia is child abuse and obviously Frigida knows this, too. She needs to speak up ayer.

Good morning SuperMarta and Refugio Support Group. But if we're switching to the Patio group with drinks and tacos, I'm on board also.

Marta you cracked me up with your observation that Max was "slurping" on Vicky's neck. What an image!

The power in this duo definitely seems to have shifted. Miss Vicky is now driving the car and the relationship. It will proceed on her terms, not his.

My favorite line last night was Pato saying that being in the wheelchair meant seeing everyone "a la altura de su corazón." I just thought that was really the crux of his character...he sees people at heart level...not in terms of place in society, hierarchy of power, or money. He sees, listens, and acts....from the heart. And our words for "courage" (corage) and Heart (corazón, coeur in French)are so close. Tho' in English, we no longer have that obvious link, we still say "take heart" when we're trying to enCOURAGE someone. And for me, Pato has the most courage of anyone in this story.

Loved the scenes of Mateo and don Chelo. And how sweetly Mateo confronted him about his anger. The wink at doña Chuy when he lovingly browbeat dad into washing his hands with soap! Too cute. This little actor is a keeper for sure.

Thanks, as always, SuperMarta, for your wonderful detail, your strong images and the energy which you pour into your recaps for us. Much appreciated.

Great recap, Marta, you put a voice to the frustration we all have with this story. Thank you!

A lot of us had parents that made us finish the food on our plates, but then, I am older and my parents lived through The Great Depression. The argument went, "There are children in India/China/Africa-(wherever the latest famine was) who would be grateful for this food." We always responded, "So send it to them, already!" I was never made to eat it for breakfast, though.

Gala was just maliciously and deliberately cruel-if it wasn't the liver it would have been something else, EAT YOUR OWN LIVER GALA!

Rosa is decompensating-and she will act crazier and crazier.

They need to move this story along a little; things are dragging.

Fabulous, Marta, thanks!

RE was so shocked she didn't react. I had expected her to immediately run to Jana, drag her back into the room by her hair, and scream at her in front of everybody that OF COURSE she's marrying Boris. But she stood there totally dazed that Jana had defied her in public.

"Someone has to pay for the broken plates" - love that phrase.

Oh, and I think sincronizadas are a basically ham and cheese quesadilla.

The thing is, if Max and Connie were ever going to say "Ya basta" they would have already done so long ago.

Smirking Max loves it when his children defy Rosa, but he won't ever step in to help them do so or back them up! Just watches from the sidelines - what a wuss. He's sick - totally engrossed in chasing after Vicki while Rosa is busy selling their daughter into a lifetime of misery, and Max knows it! But he'd rather run off and play.

Audrey-yeah, it is like Urban said yesterday, seeing how sick Rosa is makes him look more well by contrast, and perhaps that is why he stays with her.

Marta- This was really one of your best recaps. Thank you for taking the time to give us that Oscar-Boris scene. Oscar also says so much with his eyes and his facial expressions, and it was obvious that he saw Bore-us as the toe rag he is.

Two very interesting mother-daughter scenes. Gala-Alexia and Rosa-Hannah. I cringed at the mind games Gala was playing with Alexia-- don't you want to be as pretty as mommy?; don't tell daddy... I was a picky eater when I was little too, but my parents knew better than to try to make me eat things that most kids don't like, like liver. It's not like Gala was eating that. She had a nice baked potato on her plate. She purposely made them serve Alexia things that most 4-5 year olds just can't stomach. Plus, Alexia asked for chicken. It's not like she wanted pizza or a burger or something. Thank goodness Brigida brought her those quesadillas.

Rosa making Hannah dress just like her...good grief! I almost felt like I was having an anxiety attack as Hannah had hers. Thank goodness she finally stood up for herself, because Lord knows no one else was going to do it. Perhaps it was for the best that she had to be the one to put her foot down, but now it's time for her father and brother to step in and back her up. We'll have to wait till Wednesday (!) to see how they react, and to see that kissing scene with Hannah and Lorenzo (yowza!).

I see Rod and Max behaving the same with their daughters. Both are loving with them. But both also let their wives have their way with their daughters, only giving weak protests (I am remembering when Rod let Gala drag Alexia out of his office). Both seem to put their love lives (Vicky, Luci) ahead of their daughters as well. I want Rod to show me that he's a better man than his father and step up. I almost feel like it's too late for Max, but I do want to see how he reacts to Hannah's declaration at the dinner.

Judy- Thanks for highlighting that scene with Pato and Luci and what Pato said about seeing people from the heart level. I was really struck by that conversation too. Glad to see those two back to their easy-going friendship. Hopefully, Pato has decided to back off and "love in silence" as Luci has to with Rod and Lorenzo is envisioning with Hannah.

Well, I'll return the compliment Vivi by thanking you for the comparison of Max and Rod both putting their own love lives ahead of their beloved daughters. Two affectionate...but weak...men.

And Audrey, thanks for the explanation of the syncronizadas. I hadn't heard that word before, and forgot to look it up.

I have mixed emotions about having Alexia "clean your plate." Coming from Gala of course it was meant to be shown as child abuse. But having grown up in a family that had only the basics, "clean your plate" meant that you filled your stomach for the day. In this situation, Alexia comes across as a spoiled brat, so I think she should be happy to have a good meal in front of her. But with the "rich" in this TN, it's seen as abuse since she's not getting the gourmet chicken that she requested. Really, it's not child abuse. Think of all the kids who don't eat.

The child abuse is not in any lesson Gala was trying to teach Alexia. In the case where the family is poor, then everyone is likely eating the same thing. Gala had food on her plate that she, enjoyed, while feeding Alexia something different that she knew Alexia didn't like. She didn't bring anything up about: 1) We can't afford to buy/cook antyhing else; 2) There are others in the worls who don't have food to eat. Nope, it was all about making Alexia doubt her own self worth-- you want to be beautiful like mommy, don't you? She also got pleasure out of it, that surely Alexia picked up on. This was emotional abuse pure and simple. It was not about making Alexia learn to eat all kinds of foods, or to appreciate the things she has that others don't.

It is abusive to use food as a weapon, which is what Gala was doing. This is the sort of thing that leads to eating disorders.

There is no good reason for Gala to feed her child something she knows she doesn't like. I have never met a kid who likes liver. The child asked for chicken which -- BTW -- I got tired of as a child because it was cheaper than meat and my mother made it often. Gala can easily afford anything and demanding that Alexia eat the liver cold the next day is even more abusive because liver is inedible past its initial preparation. It turns into rubber and that gets worse when you nuke it.

One could charitably say that Gala is incapable of bonding with a child because she never bonded with her mother in her own childhood, but I don't honestly believe she would have been any better off.

That's how I see it; Gala is emotionally abusing Alexia to hurt Rod. Very dangerous situation for Alexia.
Years ago I worked with anorexics; they often had stories like this that their parents would make them eat things on their plates-BUT THE ISSUE WAS CONTROL NOT THE FOOD. And it is worse with Gala; she is deliberately torturing this child to hurt Rod; she is SADISTIC.

There is no excuse for Gala; but Rod's choices all along have been wrong, wrong, wrong; even his treatment of Gala is wrong. He marries her for the wrong reason then expects Gala to be chaste forever although he will never have sex with her-? Where did he get this from, his mother? And he should be able to be emotionally attached to Luci indefinitely? This is insane-and unethical to Gala considering he doesn't know Gala intended to murder little Rodrigo/Mateo. Of course considering all she's done she doesn't deserve any pity (don't misunderstand me); BUT ROD DOESN'T KNOW THAT. Am I the only one that sees this? Probably...OH WELL.
Breathe, it is only a story.

Emarie- You are not the only one who sees this. I have been, and continue to be hard on Rod. Yesterday I said that I hope he mans up and clears up his situation with Gala before the Mateo reveal. I don't think it should take a murder attempt on his son's life for him to finally wake up, man up, divorce Gala, and take control of his life.

I also agree that he is being foolish in his expectations of Gala. What ever made him think Gala would be a loving mother, and chaste for all their sex-less married life. He's just like Rosa in that way-- refusing a spouse sex and then getting indignant that they might look for it elsewhere.

Ok, y'all I am going to stick my neck out and defend Rod the Bod a little bit. I don't think he is mad at Gagme/Skankarella for finding the horizontal bop elsewhere, he is mad it is affecting his child. She isn't home to take care of Alexia, remember the drinking in the bars, being so hung over as to not be able to pick Alexia up from school, he keeps complaining to Gagme that only he, the Nanny and Frigid ever care for Alexia. He even said he'd like to be the best man at her next wedding! But on the other hand, I don't like that Rod the Bod isn't home a whole lot where poor Alexia is sent to her room, made to keep quiet, forced to eat something she hates, Rod needs to step it put in the parent department by being home more often. At the least he should try and work at home when Alexia is home from school. I don't know, does this make sense. I am not forgiving him everything, but I think in the sex department he could care less who she bangs, it is just in the case of Alexia he is pithed, cause he can clearly see there is no motherly bond as far as Gagme/Skankarella goes.

I'm not sure how it works out, but I'm hoping that Rod steps in to vigorously defend Jana's choice at/after the dinner. I'm not really expecting Max to do so - he pretty much already kowtowed to Rosa's determination on the matter even though he knows Jana will be unhappy. This is Rod's chance to man up and make up for his past mistakes to some degree. Rod knows how miserable he is after Rosa engineered his marriages, so I expect he will be determined to not allow Rosa to railroad Jana into the marriage now that Jana has made her wishes clear.

On a totally different note, Melissa looked smashing at that dinner! Loved her sleek hair, black and white outfit, and fuchsia lipstick. Remember when she used to look like a wild-haired hippie? Don’t know how they managed it, but both she and Gala look thinner too.

Madelaine, I don't want Rod tarred and feathered, no way, I love the big lug, too, but it is going to be harder to mete out judgement on Gala if she has a sliver of justice that is owed her.
I'd like to see Jana be able to live on her own, get to know herself and THEN be able to choose a guy which may be or not be Lorenzo. I am thinking Lorenzo may be a bit of a cave man in his view of the role of any woman in his life; but I guess we should give him a chance. I'd hope Lorenzo would be Oscar-esque and give her room to grow; but ? would he?

Dear SuperMarta--Thank you. It was a terrific episode and you did it justice.

The Abismal Patio? Are we being invited to join you there or are you coming here. We need to warn you Abismal folks that this tn isn't nearly as funny as yours.

Does anyone know what Boris was studying in Italy? Did he get any kind of degree? We know he's dedicating himself to snagging and snogging Jana, but is he going to work or live off his parent's resources. Can't think that is any better than what Lor is offering. Bore-us' parents resources may dry up any minute with a change in government or economic depression.

That scene where RE is a self-appointed exorcist was unbelievable. She has not been annoited to forgive anyone else's sins, especially when she hasn't been able to communicate with the Big Ear Himself lately. I wanted Conny to stand up and tell her BASTA right then and there. If anything, that should be enough to send her to a nice, expensive psychiatric sanitorium for a lengthy stay. She's out of her frickin' mind.

JudyB--In Spanish as in many languages that are forged from mixing other more ancient languages, words have multiple definitions, some meaning the opposite. Coraje is one of them. Besides courage and bravery, it also means passion and anger. The latter we've heard used in many a tn in this context. Interesting about how close the word is to corazon, though.

I also noticed that Roselena and Jana were dressed identically. Even to the simple gold chain, although I didn't think Jana's was a cross. Another clue that RE, besides control, wants to live vicariously through Jana, even to making her unhappy and suffer. What a miserable woman. I don't care is she IS sick, Max. DO something. Where is AMOR when we need her!!!

Guess we have a Patio full of picky eaters. So was I. My parents indulged me so most of what I ate I liked (and was healthy) and they didn't make me eat tongue, oatmeal, cucumbers or raw tomatoes. I did like liver, though!! But when I went to school or away to camp, the three bite rule was in place. I survived, but boy those memories are strong. I still don't like oatmeal or raw tomatoes. In my era is was the starving children in Europe (this was right after WWII).

Poor Jana, what trauma to put her through. Where or where did she find the courage to stand up to everyone in that room, especially her father. Her love for Lor must be very strong. I felt sorry for Boris' parents, who were clueless to what had been going on between her, Roselena and Boring Bore-us. Roselena very well knew that things were not what they seemed, but had no idea Jana would defy her.

Yay Juli, give us some laughs for the next few episodes. Remember how she tried and failed with Oscar? My my that was so long ago.

So what are the thoughts on Don Chelo?

We have noticed for a long time now how skittish Chelo gets when people pay too much attention to Mateo. Last night he spoke of the looks people are always giving him and Mateo, and Mateo says he's noticed it too. It's obvious that people either: 1) Think it's unusual that such an old weathered man has such a young son and is by himself; 2) They think Mateo looks too white (like he's from the high class) to be with Chelo; and/or 3) They think a young child should not be on the streets, clearly not getting an education or proper care (from their point of view).

But what is Chelo scared of? I had two thoughts on this. He is either scared that these concerned citizens will call the authorities and take Mateo away from him to put in an orphanage; or he's scared that Mateo's real family will find him. If it's the former, then I can understand his fear. But if it's the latter, then it's very selfish of him. I almost got the impression that it's the latter when he told Mateo not to speak to anyone, Rod included, and to have them speak to him instead. I could see Rod asking Mateo when his birthday is and Mateo refusing because of Chelo's demand. Then Rod asks Chelo and he lies, just like he did to Luci, throwing Rod off the scent. I never bought his excuse for lying to Luci. It wouldn't have mattered had he said the baby was 2 months old to a stranger. It would have only mattered to people who were looking for THAT specific baby. Chelo lied in order to keep Mateo for himself and to make it harder for his family to find him.

I know that may be a controversial stance, but that's the way I see it. He's a good man and he's been a good father, but I do think he acted selfishly and continues to do so.

Correction-- It wouldn't have mattered if he told the truth that the baby was two months old, instead of lying and saying the baby was FOUR months old to a stranger...

Oh, and the scenes with Mateo and Don Chelo were adorable. That kid is such a cutie.

Bore-us really is full of himself. I was shocked to see how dismissive he was of Oscar even to putting a condescending hand on his shoulder. Way back when he sent flowers to Rosa after she heaved him out of the house I commented that he had good manners and had been raised right but with Oscar it was apparent he has forgotten good manners or else like Gagme and her mother and friends and Rosa he looks down on people he considers inferior. Points to jana for telling him off.

Poor Jana dressed like a nun minus the huge cross and being pressured into a marriage she knows is wrong. No wonder she had a full on panic attack. I can't imagine being a 22 year old and complying with my mother ordering me what to wear. I guess that Jana is still remembering Max telling the kids their mother was sick and not to upset her.

I am concerned about poor little Mateo when he finds out Don C is not his father and he is taken away from him. He clearly adores him and he has only the boxcar duo in his life. Chelo telling him not to talk to people and isolating him isn't good. Have we ever heard the little guy ask about his mother? He isn't even allowed to be with other children. It is such a contrast to the kind of life he would have had with Luci, it breaks my heart.

Gala has now joined the CQ and La Loca in the Mother of the Year sweepstakes. I couldn't tell if she was just trying to punish Alexia (for being Rods little princessa) or if she actually thought that gross plate of food would help her be as pretty as mama. Can't help wondering if that is how Julie raised her. In any event it is abuse. We aways had to eat what was in front of us (liver was never served) and I do remember chocking down stew, fish on Fridays with lukewarm milk from letting it stand so long. My brother's place was next to me sand he would arrive late for dinner with the food already getting cold and wolf it down. I always though he had a cast iron stomach.

Fridgia definitely did not like watching what was going on and I wonder how long she will keep silent. She obviously loves the child but she also fears for her job. Wonder if in the end she will end up working for Rod and Luci/ Wouldn't' that be a hoot.

Vivi--Don Chelo is scared more of scenario 1 & 3. They would both result in Mateo being taken away from him. Of immediate concern to him now, after meeting Rod is that Mateo is "undocumented." Without a birth certificate or some official registration (had it been a home birth), he can't put him in school. The time is drawing near that he can't get away with his not being in school during the day. I don't know what Mexican law is, but of course here, kids up to 16 have to be in school or there has to be a very good reason why not. It would be hard for Chelo to hide Mateo during the day for the next 10 years.

SuperMarta---Great job, especially with the Oscar/Bore-us talk at Torreslanda Corporate. I really wanted to know what was said and you aced it---thank you. You brought this story together last night--and so, thank you again.

I will also add my name to the lease for a spot at the Jana/Lorenzo table, so count me in.

Daisynjay---Yes, I was thinking about Melissa last night also---a Melissa/Julie confrontation???

I groaned when Skankarella/Gagme wiped her face after Alexia kissed her. Alexia is so adorable. The anvil can't come to soon for her, I can't wait.

I see it too---Emarie

Audrey---We all hope that Rod stands up for his sister Jana---but---he hasn't done much standing up in the past. Is he finally about to change? OHHHH!!! Wednesday is so long away.
the gringo

Marta, thank you for the super recap especially the conversations.

Gagme is really pushing it with Rod. He will tolerate anything but abuse of his child. I can hardly wait until he finds out about the liver episode.

As a mother, I have some advice for you Rod. Get a DIVORCE. It may be expensive but you are well educated and can make tons more in the future. You will also be a better man without without Luci.

Vivi, as far as I am concerned Bore-us needs a toe-tag. If Jana is forced to marry marry him, I can guarantee he will be abusive. So sweet Jana, run like the wind.

As I have said before, Max and Mati have caused RE sickness and over the years have only made it worse. I hope they are both stuck with her for eternity.

JudyB, as you can tell, I need the Support Group. There are just too many storm clouds to enjoy the patio today.

Marta - Fine recap. Thanks.

Mateo looks so much like Luci that I wonder if they cast someone who's related to the actress. Surely Rod notices the resemblance, but he's a dunderhead - so maybe not. Still, if Rod keeps buying newspapers from Mateo, I can't see him doing nothing about the boy not being in school. Seems like he'd want to help him in the memory of his own son.

Hope Jana realizes she needs to pack her bags pronto and move in with her cousin.

First, I would like to say I'm proud of Oscar for putting that snot-nosed little Boris in his place. Second, I also want to praise Hannah for backing Oscar on what he told him and for standing up to her mother and telling her that she wasn't going to marry that termite. And third the thing with Gala, Alexia and the liver thing was soooo "Mommy Dearest". In case you don't remember the movie or have never seen it, Joan Crawford does the same thing to Christina. She forced her to eat steak that was so rare it had blood running out of it. When she refused, it was put in the refrigerator overnight and waiting for her at the breakfast table the next morning. God, I hope it doesn't come down to her beating that child with a wire hanger next. And finally, where does Gala get off condemning Luciana as a mother when she and Rosealena were the ones who took the baby in the first place and Gala has been no kind of mother to her own daughter? I swear I wanted to smack her when she said that.

I agree that Rod's anger is at Gala's lack of motherly instincts and would rather become a skankarella than a mother... he also must be guessing this is a 'get back at him' move on hers.
I also agree that he shoudl spend more time at home... nowadays unless you have meetings at the office, you can do a lot at home via a laptop...

Vivi, i agree that Chelo is afraid of losing Mateo... but somehow he must also be afraid that if Mateo is 'found' or at least identified as not his own child, Chelo might be accused of kidnapping himself so he must also fear of going to jail. I also want Chelo and CHuy to continue being in Mateo's/Rodrigo's life after he is found... they deserve it.

I too would LOVE to see a Melissa/Julie bout...

Britishcomedyfan, welcome.

I never saw Mommie Dearest but I know of a real-life example of that food behavior. I once worked with a woman who did this to her own daughter who was about the same age as Alexia. It predated the film by a few years and I doubt this woman read the book.

My gut is telling me that Gala won't get far enough with a wire hanger. We're only about a dozen episodes from the end and it's time for Rod to break.

Marta, I think you're right about Chelo's fear. But I think he will continue to be in Mateo's life because Luci will be so grateful he took care of him she will help him get on his feet, so to speak.

B-C-Fan--Don't you think Gala and Juli are practicing the art of guilt transference? If they can convince themselves that Luci was at fault, their own feelings of guilt are reduced. They are probably also saying it because on the surface, that's what everyone would think, not knowing the skullduggery that prompted the loss of the baby. They also enjoy hurting Luciana.

I wonder if the Sanitary Engineer will ever show up again. Pedro Campos has.

Anita

I don't Julie and Gala feel guilty about anything. It isn't in their makeup but they do love the idea of having stuck it to Luci. I also think they are arrogant enough to feel safe in almost bragging about what they did. They are also pretty careful just to keep it among their own cadre forgetting of course Frigida of the Big Ears. Pretty sure it will come back to haunt them

I also think Chelo is afraid of being accused of stealing Mateo which makes him so skittish. He also obviously loves the child and will be devastated to lose him. We all know Luci will add him to her ever growing family but the man is going to be hurt, just one more of the 3B's victims.

Decie--You are right. That brag-fest was just between the two of them, right? I was picturing the whole hen house sitting around and they were going off on Luciana and the lost baby. Still, do you really think there's not one scintilla of guilt (I know there's no remorse) in what they did? For all they know it WAS murder.

I guess tn villains don't consider murder the most capital of sins. In ours, remarrying when you've been married in the church and not had an annulment; or not honoring the marriage bed (in Gala's case) rate higher!!

By Gala I meant that Rod hadn't slept with her since Alexia was conceived.

It is the nature of narcissists to attribute their own sins to others. That's what's going on with Roselena, Julie, and Gala.

Hell's fury will be kid stuff compared to how Rod will react when he learns the truth.

I'm finally catching up with the episodes, which I record. Ever since Vio took that offensive stance when Boris confronted Lorenzo at the carwash, she and her team in those outfits remind me of the Power Rangers.

I'm no longer feeling the Rod/Luciano passion. She deserves better.

Yea Jana!!!

Susan

Oh Marta, I have no computer over the weekend so don't usually get to read these but I wanted to see what you had to say and I was so happy I did. the title had me smiling away. This was perfection!

I love any scenes with Mateo and I am simply happy that the truth must come out in the near future. I am still very worried about Pato and am hoping that someone will appear giving him the opportunity to fall in love and be as happy as he deserves.

I see redemption for Frigida...

Diana

Diana, I too see redemption for Frigida, as long as she gives the bracelet to the right people at the right moment...

everyone, if you haven't already, don't forget to vote tomorrow.

Martha, thanks. I congratulate Janna for being brave about her freedom to choose whomever she wants to get married to. I wish I could say the same about her brother. I am also at a lost why there is a lack of mother instinct from Gala. Now if that child was not her own blood, I would see where her indifference would come from but her own! It's not only the liver scene but ever since she was born, she did not have anything to give her, she does not want to hold that child let alone hug her. But yes she's holding on to her to use her against Rod and Luciana. To go to Sr.Chelo, I was wondering won't he be able to remember the card that Luciana gave him that would help him get Mateo to school with her help and thus the discovery? That would require a lot of trust from Chelo though. I too am wondering about two other people that could shed light or even solve Mati's disappearance. The janitor, I hope she runs out of money and decide to show herself again and Brigida which would be a real revelation!!! Wonders of wonders!!! Please give us hope and excitement again regarding this sad story. On a different light, I saw Sunday night of Mira quien Baila, Luciana singing the love song with a guy named Acha and dancing as well!!! She looked lovely. what a treat.
