Ha! The Champagne Queen will never get anywhere with Claudio, but it will be fun to watch her ply her wiles on him and be rejected, lol. Oh, Julie's friends name is Carola.
Yay, Jana. I am so glad she stood up for herself and said she wouldn't marry Bore-us. And Speaking of Bore-us the nerve of that putz for looking down his nose at Oscar. I can't stand Bore-us. I am really happy for Jana and hope she sticks to her guns and doesn't cave just to "save" her la loca mama.
I felt bad for Lor. The poor guy is so in love with Jana it was breaking his heart when he thought Jana would marry Bore-us. Glad in the previews he found out she turned Bore-us down.
Jana really looked like she was having a panic attack. The poor thing, but glad, so glad she did what she did and even when la loca yelled at her to come back, she kept going! Yay!
What is wrong with la loca?? She is loca, to pray over Conny like that, like she is some kind of priest and can get Dios to forgive her sins? Didn't Conny say that Rosa's sins were far worse than anything Conny did? Conny was so right. Conny will not listen to la loca. La loca is sliding further into madness that's for sure.
I worry Don Chelo will now keep Mateo away from Rod, I hope that doesn't happen. I like the dynamic between Don Chelo and Mateo, don't get me wrong, but I want Mateo/lil Roddy with his Papa and Mama pronto.
Speaking of the twit, can we take it this sorry excuse doesn't work and is basically a rich kid slug? Oscar taking him to task was brilliant, but you can tell it rally made no impact, which is why we need to order that anvil for Boring ASAP.
I don't think Janna refusing to get engaged is going to stop RE from pushing Boring to take drastic measures to ensure Janna and Lorenzo don't hook up. She basically announced she would do that anyway and lord knows she keeps THOSE kind of promises. Seeing how Janna was in full force panic attack was heart-breaking. I will be very interested to see/hear what Max says. If Janna is his princess, he better step as king and support her.
And help me here...but what is this formality of the boy's parents asking for the girls hand? Hello Dark Ages? Were they going to have a jousting tournament when dinner was over or the parents retire to the study to discuss the dowry? Gees, how archaic.
But those previews with Janna/Lucious....er Lorenzo--so help me, dream sequence and I'll hurt someone. We need some really good romance in this show, and frankly, really don't want it coming from Rod right now.
The whole "eat your liver" with GTM and Alexia...OMG. I can't even....and the poor little thing still kisses her "mother" goodnight and it's wiped off? Nope...I can't or there will be a hole in my wall from my fist going into it.
Poor Brandon--he must have had one sore rear end from bouncing down those cobbled streets. Was almost funny to watch (bet they had fun filming as well). I love seeing him happy, and frankly, seeing a real smile and laughter coming from Luce as well. Of course, Rod calls and she turns to Debbie-downer again. Can't he just leave her alone for awhile? This is all about HIM wanting her around and not caring about what's best for her right now. Dumbass...go take care of your daughter who needs you.
Melissa needs to scratch Julie's eyes out...just sayin'.
As for dear little Matteo--hand washing scene, priceless. His smle, I melt. That hug for his "papa". I teared. They need to do something with this plot to have him have a better transition to being R/L's son. And if Chelo is around, needs to be in that boy's life somehow. Otherwise, unacceptable to just have him "found" and taken away.
I think somehow "school" is going to come into play in getting Matteo hooked up with R/L, but could we see another FF to allow for time to build a relationship perhaps with Alexia or get Luce/Pato involved since Pato has that foundation to help school kids. They are the only two, besides Vio, who know about the medal. Perplexing....
I'll be happy to help bartend the patio since my services are ending for Abismo ( thank the heavens). Any special orders?
I don't know what I find more objectionable about Roselena: The religious hypocrisy or the way she treats her children like possessions. When are Connie and Max going to finally lash out and say "Basta!"?
Speaking as a daughter of a narcissistic mother who was thought attractive, I can say that even turning the daughter into a mini-me will never make the narcissist happy. What Gala and Roselena both want is to share their misery with as many people as possible, especially their daughters. I was cringing when Gala said "If you want to be pretty like me..." because I heard my mother's voice in that.
At least my mother didn't try to force me to eat cold liver. I completely agree that what she was doing to Alexia is child abuse and obviously Frigida knows this, too. She needs to speak up ayer.
Marta you cracked me up with your observation that Max was "slurping" on Vicky's neck. What an image!
The power in this duo definitely seems to have shifted. Miss Vicky is now driving the car and the relationship. It will proceed on her terms, not his.
My favorite line last night was Pato saying that being in the wheelchair meant seeing everyone "a la altura de su corazón." I just thought that was really the crux of his character...he sees people at heart level...not in terms of place in society, hierarchy of power, or money. He sees, listens, and acts....from the heart. And our words for "courage" (corage) and Heart (corazón, coeur in French)are so close. Tho' in English, we no longer have that obvious link, we still say "take heart" when we're trying to enCOURAGE someone. And for me, Pato has the most courage of anyone in this story.
Loved the scenes of Mateo and don Chelo. And how sweetly Mateo confronted him about his anger. The wink at doña Chuy when he lovingly browbeat dad into washing his hands with soap! Too cute. This little actor is a keeper for sure.
Thanks, as always, SuperMarta, for your wonderful detail, your strong images and the energy which you pour into your recaps for us. Much appreciated.
A lot of us had parents that made us finish the food on our plates, but then, I am older and my parents lived through The Great Depression. The argument went, "There are children in India/China/Africa-(wherever the latest famine was) who would be grateful for this food." We always responded, "So send it to them, already!" I was never made to eat it for breakfast, though.
Gala was just maliciously and deliberately cruel-if it wasn't the liver it would have been something else, EAT YOUR OWN LIVER GALA!
Rosa is decompensating-and she will act crazier and crazier.
They need to move this story along a little; things are dragging.
RE was so shocked she didn't react. I had expected her to immediately run to Jana, drag her back into the room by her hair, and scream at her in front of everybody that OF COURSE she's marrying Boris. But she stood there totally dazed that Jana had defied her in public.
"Someone has to pay for the broken plates" - love that phrase.
Smirking Max loves it when his children defy Rosa, but he won't ever step in to help them do so or back them up! Just watches from the sidelines - what a wuss. He's sick - totally engrossed in chasing after Vicki while Rosa is busy selling their daughter into a lifetime of misery, and Max knows it! But he'd rather run off and play.
Two very interesting mother-daughter scenes. Gala-Alexia and Rosa-Hannah. I cringed at the mind games Gala was playing with Alexia-- don't you want to be as pretty as mommy?; don't tell daddy... I was a picky eater when I was little too, but my parents knew better than to try to make me eat things that most kids don't like, like liver. It's not like Gala was eating that. She had a nice baked potato on her plate. She purposely made them serve Alexia things that most 4-5 year olds just can't stomach. Plus, Alexia asked for chicken. It's not like she wanted pizza or a burger or something. Thank goodness Brigida brought her those quesadillas.
Rosa making Hannah dress just like her...good grief! I almost felt like I was having an anxiety attack as Hannah had hers. Thank goodness she finally stood up for herself, because Lord knows no one else was going to do it. Perhaps it was for the best that she had to be the one to put her foot down, but now it's time for her father and brother to step in and back her up. We'll have to wait till Wednesday (!) to see how they react, and to see that kissing scene with Hannah and Lorenzo (yowza!).
I see Rod and Max behaving the same with their daughters. Both are loving with them. But both also let their wives have their way with their daughters, only giving weak protests (I am remembering when Rod let Gala drag Alexia out of his office). Both seem to put their love lives (Vicky, Luci) ahead of their daughters as well. I want Rod to show me that he's a better man than his father and step up. I almost feel like it's too late for Max, but I do want to see how he reacts to Hannah's declaration at the dinner.
Judy- Thanks for highlighting that scene with Pato and Luci and what Pato said about seeing people from the heart level. I was really struck by that conversation too. Glad to see those two back to their easy-going friendship. Hopefully, Pato has decided to back off and "love in silence" as Luci has to with Rod and Lorenzo is envisioning with Hannah.
And Audrey, thanks for the explanation of the syncronizadas. I hadn't heard that word before, and forgot to look it up.
There is no good reason for Gala to feed her child something she knows she doesn't like. I have never met a kid who likes liver. The child asked for chicken which -- BTW -- I got tired of as a child because it was cheaper than meat and my mother made it often. Gala can easily afford anything and demanding that Alexia eat the liver cold the next day is even more abusive because liver is inedible past its initial preparation. It turns into rubber and that gets worse when you nuke it.
One could charitably say that Gala is incapable of bonding with a child because she never bonded with her mother in her own childhood, but I don't honestly believe she would have been any better off.
Years ago I worked with anorexics; they often had stories like this that their parents would make them eat things on their plates-BUT THE ISSUE WAS CONTROL NOT THE FOOD. And it is worse with Gala; she is deliberately torturing this child to hurt Rod; she is SADISTIC.
There is no excuse for Gala; but Rod's choices all along have been wrong, wrong, wrong; even his treatment of Gala is wrong. He marries her for the wrong reason then expects Gala to be chaste forever although he will never have sex with her-? Where did he get this from, his mother? And he should be able to be emotionally attached to Luci indefinitely? This is insane-and unethical to Gala considering he doesn't know Gala intended to murder little Rodrigo/Mateo. Of course considering all she's done she doesn't deserve any pity (don't misunderstand me); BUT ROD DOESN'T KNOW THAT. Am I the only one that sees this? Probably...OH WELL.
Breathe, it is only a story.
I'd like to see Jana be able to live on her own, get to know herself and THEN be able to choose a guy which may be or not be Lorenzo. I am thinking Lorenzo may be a bit of a cave man in his view of the role of any woman in his life; but I guess we should give him a chance. I'd hope Lorenzo would be Oscar-esque and give her room to grow; but ? would he?
The Abismal Patio? Are we being invited to join you there or are you coming here. We need to warn you Abismal folks that this tn isn't nearly as funny as yours.
Does anyone know what Boris was studying in Italy? Did he get any kind of degree? We know he's dedicating himself to snagging and snogging Jana, but is he going to work or live off his parent's resources. Can't think that is any better than what Lor is offering. Bore-us' parents resources may dry up any minute with a change in government or economic depression.
That scene where RE is a self-appointed exorcist was unbelievable. She has not been annoited to forgive anyone else's sins, especially when she hasn't been able to communicate with the Big Ear Himself lately. I wanted Conny to stand up and tell her BASTA right then and there. If anything, that should be enough to send her to a nice, expensive psychiatric sanitorium for a lengthy stay. She's out of her frickin' mind.
JudyB--In Spanish as in many languages that are forged from mixing other more ancient languages, words have multiple definitions, some meaning the opposite. Coraje is one of them. Besides courage and bravery, it also means passion and anger. The latter we've heard used in many a tn in this context. Interesting about how close the word is to corazon, though.
I also noticed that Roselena and Jana were dressed identically. Even to the simple gold chain, although I didn't think Jana's was a cross. Another clue that RE, besides control, wants to live vicariously through Jana, even to making her unhappy and suffer. What a miserable woman. I don't care is she IS sick, Max. DO something. Where is AMOR when we need her!!!
Guess we have a Patio full of picky eaters. So was I. My parents indulged me so most of what I ate I liked (and was healthy) and they didn't make me eat tongue, oatmeal, cucumbers or raw tomatoes. I did like liver, though!! But when I went to school or away to camp, the three bite rule was in place. I survived, but boy those memories are strong. I still don't like oatmeal or raw tomatoes. In my era is was the starving children in Europe (this was right after WWII).
Poor Jana, what trauma to put her through. Where or where did she find the courage to stand up to everyone in that room, especially her father. Her love for Lor must be very strong. I felt sorry for Boris' parents, who were clueless to what had been going on between her, Roselena and Boring Bore-us. Roselena very well knew that things were not what they seemed, but had no idea Jana would defy her.
Yay Juli, give us some laughs for the next few episodes. Remember how she tried and failed with Oscar? My my that was so long ago.
We have noticed for a long time now how skittish Chelo gets when people pay too much attention to Mateo. Last night he spoke of the looks people are always giving him and Mateo, and Mateo says he's noticed it too. It's obvious that people either: 1) Think it's unusual that such an old weathered man has such a young son and is by himself; 2) They think Mateo looks too white (like he's from the high class) to be with Chelo; and/or 3) They think a young child should not be on the streets, clearly not getting an education or proper care (from their point of view).
But what is Chelo scared of? I had two thoughts on this. He is either scared that these concerned citizens will call the authorities and take Mateo away from him to put in an orphanage; or he's scared that Mateo's real family will find him. If it's the former, then I can understand his fear. But if it's the latter, then it's very selfish of him. I almost got the impression that it's the latter when he told Mateo not to speak to anyone, Rod included, and to have them speak to him instead. I could see Rod asking Mateo when his birthday is and Mateo refusing because of Chelo's demand. Then Rod asks Chelo and he lies, just like he did to Luci, throwing Rod off the scent. I never bought his excuse for lying to Luci. It wouldn't have mattered had he said the baby was 2 months old to a stranger. It would have only mattered to people who were looking for THAT specific baby. Chelo lied in order to keep Mateo for himself and to make it harder for his family to find him.
I know that may be a controversial stance, but that's the way I see it. He's a good man and he's been a good father, but I do think he acted selfishly and continues to do so.
Oh, and the scenes with Mateo and Don Chelo were adorable. That kid is such a cutie.
Poor Jana dressed like a nun minus the huge cross and being pressured into a marriage she knows is wrong. No wonder she had a full on panic attack. I can't imagine being a 22 year old and complying with my mother ordering me what to wear. I guess that Jana is still remembering Max telling the kids their mother was sick and not to upset her.
I am concerned about poor little Mateo when he finds out Don C is not his father and he is taken away from him. He clearly adores him and he has only the boxcar duo in his life. Chelo telling him not to talk to people and isolating him isn't good. Have we ever heard the little guy ask about his mother? He isn't even allowed to be with other children. It is such a contrast to the kind of life he would have had with Luci, it breaks my heart.
Gala has now joined the CQ and La Loca in the Mother of the Year sweepstakes. I couldn't tell if she was just trying to punish Alexia (for being Rods little princessa) or if she actually thought that gross plate of food would help her be as pretty as mama. Can't help wondering if that is how Julie raised her. In any event it is abuse. We aways had to eat what was in front of us (liver was never served) and I do remember chocking down stew, fish on Fridays with lukewarm milk from letting it stand so long. My brother's place was next to me sand he would arrive late for dinner with the food already getting cold and wolf it down. I always though he had a cast iron stomach.
Fridgia definitely did not like watching what was going on and I wonder how long she will keep silent. She obviously loves the child but she also fears for her job. Wonder if in the end she will end up working for Rod and Luci/ Wouldn't' that be a hoot.
I will also add my name to the lease for a spot at the Jana/Lorenzo table, so count me in.
Daisynjay---Yes, I was thinking about Melissa last night also---a Melissa/Julie confrontation???
I groaned when Skankarella/Gagme wiped her face after Alexia kissed her. Alexia is so adorable. The anvil can't come to soon for her, I can't wait.
I see it too---Emarie
Audrey---We all hope that Rod stands up for his sister Jana---but---he hasn't done much standing up in the past. Is he finally about to change? OHHHH!!! Wednesday is so long away.
the gringo
Gagme is really pushing it with Rod. He will tolerate anything but abuse of his child. I can hardly wait until he finds out about the liver episode.
As a mother, I have some advice for you Rod. Get a DIVORCE. It may be expensive but you are well educated and can make tons more in the future. You will also be a better man without without Luci.
Vivi, as far as I am concerned Bore-us needs a toe-tag. If Jana is forced to marry marry him, I can guarantee he will be abusive. So sweet Jana, run like the wind.
As I have said before, Max and Mati have caused RE sickness and over the years have only made it worse. I hope they are both stuck with her for eternity.
JudyB, as you can tell, I need the Support Group. There are just too many storm clouds to enjoy the patio today.
Rosemary Primera
Mateo looks so much like Luci that I wonder if they cast someone who's related to the actress. Surely Rod notices the resemblance, but he's a dunderhead - so maybe not. Still, if Rod keeps buying newspapers from Mateo, I can't see him doing nothing about the boy not being in school. Seems like he'd want to help him in the memory of his own son.
Hope Jana realizes she needs to pack her bags pronto and move in with her cousin.
I also agree that he shoudl spend more time at home... nowadays unless you have meetings at the office, you can do a lot at home via a laptop...
Vivi, i agree that Chelo is afraid of losing Mateo... but somehow he must also be afraid that if Mateo is 'found' or at least identified as not his own child, Chelo might be accused of kidnapping himself so he must also fear of going to jail. I also want Chelo and CHuy to continue being in Mateo's/Rodrigo's life after he is found... they deserve it.
I too would LOVE to see a Melissa/Julie bout...
I never saw Mommie Dearest but I know of a real-life example of that food behavior. I once worked with a woman who did this to her own daughter who was about the same age as Alexia. It predated the film by a few years and I doubt this woman read the book.
My gut is telling me that Gala won't get far enough with a wire hanger. We're only about a dozen episodes from the end and it's time for Rod to break.
Marta, I think you're right about Chelo's fear. But I think he will continue to be in Mateo's life because Luci will be so grateful he took care of him she will help him get on his feet, so to speak.
I wonder if the Sanitary Engineer will ever show up again. Pedro Campos has.
I don't Julie and Gala feel guilty about anything. It isn't in their makeup but they do love the idea of having stuck it to Luci. I also think they are arrogant enough to feel safe in almost bragging about what they did. They are also pretty careful just to keep it among their own cadre forgetting of course Frigida of the Big Ears. Pretty sure it will come back to haunt them
I also think Chelo is afraid of being accused of stealing Mateo which makes him so skittish. He also obviously loves the child and will be devastated to lose him. We all know Luci will add him to her ever growing family but the man is going to be hurt, just one more of the 3B's victims.
I guess tn villains don't consider murder the most capital of sins. In ours, remarrying when you've been married in the church and not had an annulment; or not honoring the marriage bed (in Gala's case) rate higher!!
Hell's fury will be kid stuff compared to how Rod will react when he learns the truth.
I'm no longer feeling the Rod/Luciano passion. She deserves better.
Yea Jana!!!
Susan
I love any scenes with Mateo and I am simply happy that the truth must come out in the near future. I am still very worried about Pato and am hoping that someone will appear giving him the opportunity to fall in love and be as happy as he deserves.
I see redemption for Frigida...
Diana
everyone, if you haven't already, don't forget to vote tomorrow.
