Amor Bravío #94 (Uni 89) Fri 12/28/12 It's ¡Mama Mia! for Alonso; Or Mad, Sad, and Had Mamas R Us--Incite And Insight

AB#94:

If ever a bunch of mothers--evil stepmothers included--had a reason to gripe and gritch, it's this bunch.  All get a go at it tonight.  Though this gripe-fest is more of a snore-fest, we do have a confession from Nurse Chihuahua as we observe her fighting to protect her quadriplegic pup from that she-wolf in lambskin leathers, Isadora de Gore-uh!

Lo del Pasado:

Dead Ximena’s now distraught daddy, Francisco Xavier, has been bemoaning the negative chatter from his ex, the agonized and agonizing de Agustina, with the news that Comandante Juarez has brought them of Ximeana’s mile-long rap sheet.  Frank’s anxious to have them nix the negative commentary as they’re besmirching the otherwise fantastical image he’d prefer to keep of her.  Juarez interjects Xi’s actions speak louder than any words of theirs.  As for Gussie, she’s disgusted with her daughter’s alter-ego: not only a (husband stealer lest we forget, but a) thief and a scam-artist!  Why, the real Ximeana was a complete stranger to Gussie and her big sis, Camila!  (Well, not totally for Cam, we note, considering the check kiting incident along with the BIL bedding.)  Gussie has pretty much told Frank to stuff it where the sun doesn’t shine, cuz she rue’s the day she ever got involved with him!! Xi only inherited his guile, cunning, and vice-filled ways from her boorish daddy.  The Frankster can only slosh down a bit more of the liquid bitters at that since damn’ed if Gussie doesn’t have a match point there!!

Bottom line, Juarez is there to inform them that they’ve got to append the death certificate and so Cam’s asked him to handle it for them.

Outside, Omar (or one of Dio’s hundreds of henchman) has just wheeled the domineering and dastardly Dionisio into the courtyard where Daniel sees them.   Dan walks over and reminds Dio that every dog (and/or dawg) has his day and DDA along with Dio will have his.  One of these days Dio will make a big mistake and Dan will be there to finish him off (legally, ¡por supuesto!) and see that justice is done.  “—Don’t wear yourself out [desgastar], Danny boy!  Je-je.  There isn’t any. You’ll learn that I never leave proof of anything.  Also I never make mistakes.” Oh and BTW, No. Dio knew nothing of that hacker, Bruno, being the kidnapper, either.

Dan advises Dio that The M.Q. will one day be Cami’s again--and if not?  Then they plan to get married and Dio had better steer clear of Camila if he knows what’s good for him.  They’ll get as far away from this hell-hole as they can and start over. “--One thing’s for certain though, Dionisio, if La Malquerida, isn’t to be Camila’s then it will not be yours, either!”  (I think Issa should drink to that!)

At the hospital in Aculco, Al’s baby-mama, Nurse Chihuahua, primps and pats and tries making him as comfy cosy as possible.  She, after all, has recognized the patient--and the big bad blond in the hall at the window who has told her Al wants to die and must be killed to fulfill his DNR wishes--as her long lost son and the woman who played at mothering him, raising him all these years; the woman whose cruel husband, Lazcano, snatched him from her loving arms to be his and his wife’s legal legally claimed son and heir. With that last request, Nurse Chihuahua thinks to herself, she isn’t so sure this woman ought to have been the one to raise him—now ain’t that the truth and what was her first clue?  Well la virgencita, she tells herself, has granted her one wish—the one Lazcano refused her—to let her have one last visit with her baby boy again.  Nobody will shake her faith in Dios or La Virgen de Guadalupe now! (Religiousity and faith doth have their advantages!)   Hissadora has a fight on her hands and Al finally has a guardian angel.

Lo Del Nuevo:

Nurse Rosario, aka Chihuahua, sees Isadora’s cruel, demanding face staring into the ICU room and she at least has enough presence of mind to close the shades.  Gross!  Issa realizes that if this woman doesn’t go for the easy money and then decides to tell the cops what she’s asked her to do, she’s finished.  Hissadora is frustrated that the police guard cannot be persuaded to leave for any reason, either.  “--Maybe I just need to offer her more money.”  Lucky for Al that Issa is of the old school where every pobre peone supposedly has a price, cuz it’s apparently buying him a bit of precious time.

Dio makes his grand entrance into the living room at the M.Q., to Gussie’s great surprise and blind satisfaction.  He couldn’t stay away or in that confining hospital room a single day longer, he tells her with open arms.  Gussie mentions the bad news Juarez left them with, that Xi was wanted for theft and fraud.  “--The law was after her!”  Dio empathizes with her and with Cam, telling Cam it will take time to adjust.  Frank sorrowfully mentions under his breath that no amount of time passing will rectify what’s happened here.  Gussie tells him to pack his things and make for his son’s place cuz he’s no longer welcome here.  Dan can figure out what to do with him now. Dio agrees and says as much.  “—Neither he nor Isadora have anything more keeping them here.”   Frank exits stage left.

Cam asks about Issa and finds out she’s still at the hospital and won’t separate herself from Alonso for even a second!  Gussie says bitterly that it should have been her son who died in that car and not Ximeana.  Doesn’t anybody else agree?  No, says Cam.  Al’s a human being.  Gussie feels he should pay for taking advantage of her dearly departed daughters.  (He has, Gussie.  Just wait and see.)

In town, at the Metepec jail, a muslin muzzled Pervertido de Leo must face his accusers.  Yep, it’s   judgement day for Luzma’s lecherous Unce Leo.  Luzma, Piedad and Pablo are there to wait on the judge’s findings.  Piedad tells Leo through the bars that she used to think of him as a sort of god.  All Pablo wants to do is to beat him to a bloody pulp for what he’s done to Luzma –not that Viewerville wouldn’t find that pretty satisfying as well.  Luzma has time to remember the creep zipping up his trousers and her crying her eyes out and retching as he struts out of the old barn. The judge arrives and finds the DNA test as proof positive that the baby is a product of rape and that Luzma was, in fact and in deed, her uncle’s violated victim.  Leo Sordido gets an additional ten years added onto his veinte años he’s supposedly doing for Trench’s murder.

Luzma gets up and hisses at Leo that because of him she now hates the idea of being pregnant and of motherhood.  Leo growls back at her like the animal he is and tries grabbing her through the bars.  Pablo tells her when they have their own kids she’ll be a terrific mother.  He screams over at Leo who growls and grabs for Pablo also.  The guards take him back to the jail yard to dump him.  Piedad prays her thanks that he’s behind bars and can do them no further harm.  (Probable escape alert! Probable escape alert!!)

Osvaldo speaks to El Comandante Juarez in order to settle the question of the cession of rights over La Malquerida, but Com. Juarez assures him that he cannot jump ahead of or ignore the court’s regular proceedings.  First might-as-well-be-limbless-de-Lonso has to give his statement to the police.  That can only be done after he’s finally recovered.  (Hmm. That could take a while, and with Issa loose and eager to either kill or lenguanize him, we’ve got some real nail-bitin’ times ahead of us!  Note to Chihuahua: better not fall asleep on duty anymore, honey!!)   It’s just that, pleas Osvaldo, he needs to be able to tell the story behind the M.Q.’s becoming the grand rancho that it now is.  Com. Juarez promises to bring it up when Al gives his statement.  Os wants to be the one to ask him about it.  After all, there’s plenty of history here and it deals with betrayals, ambitious desire, and lies.  It would be a great injustice if Al doesn’t cede back the rancho to Camila before he dies.  Os doesn’t consider Juarez capable of convincing Al to do the right thing.  Sorry, but Juarez can only hand him the documents Os had written up and explain the situation to the eventually loquacious Lonnie.

At the same time, Padre Anselmo is having a phone chat with his sister, Teresa, who’s still investigating matters in Chile.  She explains that Captain Farco and any file with charges against Dan for murder, etc. is still nowhere to be found.  She advises to have DDA get his Mexican citizenship first, then collect his inheritance, and to have this mystery solved first before ever considering returning to Chile.  Neither Padre A nor she can say how this business with ceding the M.Q. will end up, either.  (Vernacular translation: What a major cluster-f@#k!!)

Well, speaking of the M.Q., Dan and Cam are sharing a private moment.  She tells him he needs to get back to Chile and make sure that his name is cleared.  He agrees.  He’s neither a murderer nor a fugitive of justice in any way.    He gets her onto his lap and a bit of kissy-face ensues.  He wants to marry her.  She offers her townhouse and her monthly stipend.  She’ll work at the neighboring ranches if she doesn’t have ownership of the M.Q.  Nope, says Dan.  He’s not living like a kept man any longer!  She can work if she wants to, but not out of necessity.  He’ll find work as a computer guru somewhere.  He needs to clear up this problem of his personal history first.  More kissy-face time.

Across the way, Rocio gives Cayetano “the look” and demands he give up Issadora and that he give Roc her place!  She wants an apology.  El Caido de Cayetano, however, has fallen into Issa’s trap and says he’s way too old to deal with her jealousy act.  Well, what a coinkidinky, says she, that he’s begun to distance himself from her only after he became such close friends with Isadora.  (Of course, we shall not forget that old Roc knows a thing or two about that of which she doth gritch.)  Cayetano says enough is enough! --Ain’t that the truth!  She demands he never sees Isadora again.  Enough is enough and he’s had enough of her!  He’s not taking orders from anybody at his age.  Don’t dare think he’s anybody’s Wimpy Willy [pelele= laughing stock, stuffed doll, wimpy fool, baby’s rompers –take your pick]!!

In town, Rafael and Aaron have made Viviana breakfast.  Aaron mentions he’s moving back to Amanda’s B&B so that she and Rafa can have their space and figure things out for themselves.  She is happy having both of them continue as they have, but Aaron says it isn’t the same and he can’t stay.  She doesn’t want to live with Rafa alone and objects.  (Poor Rafa is always the third wheel.  Hopefully somebody will realize what a nifty hunk of hombre he really is.)  A humiliated Rafa says then he’s moving out also and she can have the place to herself again.  She’s almost fine with that.  Obviously, Rafa is not.  (Viewerville shakes its head in stunned disbelief.)  Aaron asks if she’s just going to let him go like that.  Rafa obviously loves her, he says.  Yeah, well she doesn’t know about loving Rafa though.  She’s still too confused over her feelings.  Aaron is not a happy camper, either about now.

Hissadora calls Dio with the news that Al is a quadriplegic now; also, the nurse that she’s been trying to blackmail to kill Alonso still hasn’t taken care of their little “situation” in the hospital.  (I’d consider that a No, wouldn’t you?)  Al may be a quadriplegic, but he still has his tongue and is due to regain consciousness (and possibly his conscience) very soon.  They can’t risk that! (Al better blab and blab quick or he could be in the same palavering predicament as Luzma’s tongueless tío de Leo!!)  Dio advises Hissadora that she’s bitten off a bit more than she can chew in order to eschew and dodge detection by asking that nurse to off the newly limp-limbed Lon.  Better that than getting their heads chopped off by him confessing and just when they’re finally about to get what they’ve both been after for so long, says she.

Night’s fallen and so have the rains.  Illiana and Rodolfo are walking in it.  She asks him what he sees in Natalia, cuz for the life of her tho’ she’s tried, she finds Nat pretty ordinary [comun y corriente] and definitely dull for a female [sin chispa= no spark or sparkle in her].  Rod disagrees and says if she got to know her better she’d see what a pretty and pleasing person Natalia really is!  Suddenly Ill-y sees Nat walking up the lane and tells Rod to lay a smooch on her.  He obliges so that Nat observes the two of them in flagrante de-liplock.  Nat is oh-me-oh-my, how-could-he-and-why-should-he impactada!   Illy greets her and says oh, this, well, we’ve just started this but hey, when you click, you click, you know!  Nat says, I guess so, well good luck and hops into Yago’s truck.  Ol’ Rod is mortified and says that only proves she’s glad to be well rid of him.  Ill says nope.  “--The look on Nat’s face says she’s really into you after all. You know nothing about women!! This is the way you get her to come after you, Rodolfo.  Trust me.”

When Yago takes a look he has to snicker at Illy slumming.  “--What a hypocrite!!  And she’s with that poor church mouse!  Ha!  After the way she’s always given herself airs about being a part of high-society, too!!”  Nat takes offense and gives Yago grief for insulting Rod.  “--Ok. That shi!t-kicking-cowperson.”  Yago asks if she’s jealous or what.  She denies it and says if she wanted to be with Rodolfo she would be.  She’s with him instead, right?  Ok.  Then Nat says she’s hoping he’ll take her to a movie or dancing or out to eat?  Yago, the scum wad of a near macho-maniac, asks rhetorically (of course) why they should waste their time with that stuff if what they both really want is to spend time together [vernacular translation: gettin’ down and getting’ it on.]  Nat’s fairytale conception of “together” obviously is not the same as Yago’s, but she still refuses to consider that possibility.  (We women are such fools!)

In town, Os convinces Amanda to let him help her escape.  They’ll go together.  He’ll give up his notary license, but he can still be a lawyer anywhere.

Omar calls Dionisio with the news about Amanda’s plans to fly the coup with El Lic. Becerra.  He asks for further orders and whether he should intervene [tomar las cartas en el asunto= liter. Take up letters in the affair; to do something about it].  Dio tells him to handle it for him.  No problemo.  That’s why he gets the big bucks, so he can pay everybody else to do his dirty work.

Downstairs in the kitchen at the M.Q., Pablo tells Cam that despite nobody knowing now what’s going on with the ownership of the place or their jobs, he and Luzma are still planning to get married.  Really?  They won’t have a party afterwards considering all the tragic circumstances.     (Can’t imagine anybody else in the mood, either.)  Cam agrees and will join them both at the Registro Civil and the church for the two simple ceremonies, but doesn’t feel right about hosting any reception.  No problemo.  They’ll just come back as if it were another day.

Later that night, Piedad and Luzma have a mother-daughter chat about being preggers with a baby of a rape, and an Uncle’s rape at that.  Not exactly what Luz had in mind for the first pregnancy? Tears of anger and hate roll down her cheeks.  (Ok. She’s giving it up to a family who will truly love and accept it.  This faction of Viewerville agrees with that if nothing else.)  That’s why she’s giving it up for adoption, she tells us for the umpteenth time.  She hates the whole idea.   The baby shouldn’t have to suffer because its parents don’t want it.  (Ick!)  God will protect it, assures Pie.   Luzma finally falls asleep and Piedad sings over her as she sleeps.

Across the courtyard, Cam gets out of the bath and finds that Dan’s got wine and cheese waiting.  Man, says she, a hot number in bed, the most handsome man on earth and all this!  Anyway, after the flirtations, she mentions that she was thinking while taking her bath that if Don Daniel hadn’t given him the rancho and all these troubles hadn’t come about, they’d have never met.   (Perish! The thought!) “--Well my Tío Daniel was a smart and sensible man to have entrusted the two things he loved most to someone he wasn’t even sure was his son.”  Dan smiles back and his eyes sparkle. “--His rancho and his niece.”  “--Yup!” “--Here’s to the unwanted and to the very desirable!”  They kiss to that! (Let me have a bit of the old bubbly after that and I’ll toast too!!)  Cam asks what his mother was like—considering her uncle thought she would raise him like she had.  Dan brags on her and says she was strong enough to leave her husband when she thought he’d be a bad influence.  A woman wise beyond her years, apparently.

Not Gussie, though. Dan is certain that’s why Gussie doesn’t like him.  His mother’s true love and the man Gussie loved were one in the same–Cam’s uncle who never stopped loving Dan’s mama and never returned Gussie’s misguided affections.  (Personally, IMO Gussie was too much of a goose for a man like Don Daniel to ever set his eyes on.  Viewerville might add that perhaps he always treated gushing Gussie like an adolescent girl because she’s always acted like one.)  Cam adds that her mother always valued her self-worth by the man she was with despite the small crumbs of affection she received from them.  Too bad, Cam opines, that her mama didn’t learn a thing or two from Dan’l’s mama, Agata.  Well, too bad she has to learn the hard way by being with a boorish lout (and charlatan) like Dionisio Ferrar to know what a prince of a man that Dan really is, they agree.  Ok.  They’ll raise their kids the right way (famous last words)…..yada, yada, yada.

Pablo, paces across the way in his bedroom.  He tells himself that with or without a job, Luzma is job numero uno for him.  They will make out eventually.

Leo de sortido is by himself, hunched in a corner of the main rec area of the jail and thinking that he really thought Luzma had gotten herself pregnant by Pablo and was only lying to protect her rep.  He never thought he’d have a kid from the rape, but that kid is a fact, and it is his!  He’s got to get the hell away from there and from that filthy mud wallow of a jail!!  Just then a couple of the current inhabitants, also guests courtesy of the Mexican justice department, are happy to kick the livin’ sh!t out of any rapist.  Leo will do for starters. They start giving Leo de Sordido crap about his crime—at least till some other inmate named Tino tells them to back off.  Crook #1 tells Leo he’s only leaving him alone cuz he likes Tino who’s asked him to make nice; but if Leo doesn’t defend himself next time he’ll break his face!  Tino walks off.  Leo is not only muzzled but puzzled as well.

No-longer-A-lone-so confides to Rosario, the nurse, that he has got to speak with Camila.  He’s got to tell her that Isadora wants to kill him.  Who? “--The woman who pretended to be [hacerse pasar por] my mother for so many years.”   The dragon lady who now wants him snuffed and put six foot under.  Rosario promises that nobody will do him harm ever again, “--Call her, Nurse.”  First shock of the night for Al.  “And, why can’t I seem to move?  They’re going to kill me!!  I’ve got to get out of here?  Help!! Help!!”

Al doesn’t understand why the nurse is acting so familiar with him.   Can she at least stop calling him Son (and stop putting her hands all over his face and head while she’s at it)?  He can’t move so don’t keep trying to or she’ll have to sedate him. “--Don’t sedate me!  Who are you to speak to me like that?  I’m not your son.”  “--Oh son, there are so many things we still have to discuss.  And I just realized that the woman who pretended to be your mother all these years wasn’t.”  “--No, my mother’s name was Chayo.”  “—Chayo and Rosario mean the same thing.”  “--OMG it can’t be that.  I’m the son of a servant!!”  Yes, says Rosario aka Chayo, a servant who overcame her station in life to become a nurse now. “--I am your real mother.” No puede ser!!! Second shocker of the day for the ol’ limp-limbed Lon.

Comments:
I agree it was a snore-fest. Too much filler and FF material. I guess every episode can't be an edge-of-the-seat thriller.

Thanks Jardinera, your nicknames crack me up.

Lambskin leathers?!!? Can't wait to read the whole entry. But take your time -- after this busy week on AB, we're all entitled to a little rest.

Toughest scenes with poor Luzma. It's hard to make lemonade out of her situation.

I love the title Jardinera! And we have a long weekend (till Tuesday) before we get a new episode, so no rush.

I'm probably in the minority, but I didn't find this episode boring at all. But I love little quiet moments between characters when they are just speaking with each other, instead of arguing or trying to work through a crisis.

So I was touched by Chayo and Al; Luzma and Piedad; and Pablo pacing late at night thinking about how to make Luzma happy. I also enoyed seeing Dan and Cam in a quiet romantic moment talking about their moms and their future kids. And I once again wondered why Vivi can't have both brothers when they greeted her in the morning with breakfast, fresh juice and coffee. Their mama taught them right.

Vivi, I kept saying "Awkward!!" when Viv and Rafa and Aaron were discussing Aaron leaving. I did not want to be there.

Cathyx- Yeah, awkward is right! Vivi obviously didn't want to come straight out and say, I have the hots for BOTH of you so I want you both to stay.

Well, I don't blame her. She needs to sample both in order to make a correct decision. Personally, if it were me, I'd want Aaron, he's more my type, although if I hadn't met Aaron, I could go for Rafa. I can see her dilemma.

Minority +2; enjoy those slow episodes--there'll come a time after January when some will beg for these moments--where a day in Aculco will be longer than eternity and darker than obscurity.

Myo-

So raping Luzma only got him ten more years? I hope that was on top of 50 to start with. Isn't math wonderful?

It will be interesting to see the duel between the two mothers. However, I don't see a final resolution in sight because I know we're stuck with Hisadora until the end of the tale.

I can't believe Isadora didn't put two and two together when she say Rosario nurturing Alonso. I kept giving Rosario mental messages to close the curtain, and she did eventually, but not until Isadora saw her. I thought for sure Isa made the connection.

That should be when she SAW Rosario nurturing Alonso.

It seems that people have a hard time with a concept of a woman who was a maid pulling herself up and becoming a nurse. Al couldn't believe it, and I'm betting that snobby Isa would also never think it possible.

Loved your title and your opening salvo, Jardinera. And I'm with you about the episode itself being a snorefest, though I know your account will give it more zing.

Needless to say, I'm eagerly awaiting your recap, but obviously there's no real rush. As others have pointed out, we've got a three-day weekend when it comes to AB. ¡Feliz año nuevo a todos!

They never actually met, though. Whether Rosario ever saw Hissadora face to face back in the day I'm not sure, but she would have seen photos of her in the society pages or similar. She has a minor advantage here.

However, Alonssso is doomed. Hissadora will never let up.

True Urban. It doesn't seem that they actually met. From the looks of it, Old Man Lazcano bought, married, and had falsified birth papers made, at the same time that he snatched toddler Al (cute baby, by the way) away from Chayo and threw her out of his house. So she probably was out of the house before Isa moved in, and Isa never saw her. Isa probably didn't even know Al's mom's name. In the flashback we saw where the old man tells Isa she's now a mother, he really didn't explain much to her. It's Salomon who knew all the dirty details.

That's "bought and married Isa, and had falsified birth papers made..."

Rosario knew her employer's name Lazcano and knew her baby's name as Alonso. And she knew at the hospital that Isadora Lazcano is the wife of her employer. It didn't take much for Rosario to put that together. But with the way that Rosario was taking care of Alonso, and with Isadora being very astute, I would have thought that she would have figured it out. And maybe she will in time.

There's every reason for Chayo to know exactly who Al and Isa are. She knew who Al was as soon as they rolled him into the operating room and said his name. Obviously, his name was not changed by the old man, and Lazcano is not a common last name. Plus his age. In the flashback when the old man takes the baby from her, he tells Chayo his new wife's name and says his son will be raised by Isa who is high class enough for the job, not like Chayo.

So yes, Chayo has the advantage of knowing who Isa and Al are. But Isa is in the dark about the details about Chayo. Since Isa doesn't understand things like motherly devotion, she sees Nurse Rosario's actions as being those of a soft, setimental idiot-- in other words, a human, which we know Isa is not. She doesn't understand, nor try to understand, humans. She just tries to find ways to use them to her advantage.

Urban- I looked up what the average jail time was for rape in Western countries and 10 years is actually on the generous end of sentences. From the US (with no national rape law) to the UK, the Netherlands and France, the sentences vary between 4 to 12 years (12 years usually when it's a child or the person was tortured). It doesn't seem enough to me, but so it is.

Maybe this is a good time to ask my question. Are Pablo's parents Rocio and ole Don Daniel? If so, does Isadora know this? How did she find out? Who else knows? Nana/Refugio [Magda Guzman]?
Confused, missed some epis, thanks!
I liked last night too; I thought some of the side plots were advanced in interesting ways.
Clara

In NY state forcible rape for a first felony offender carries a sentence of from 5 to 25 years.
Clara

Clara- yes. Pablo is the child of Rocio and Don Daniel. The only people who know are Rocio and Nana Refugio. Isabel has started to latch on to some clues that Pablo might be Don Dan's, but she can only make an educated guess. These are the clues she's found:
- A hidden away picture of Don Dan with Rocio and what looks like old letters.
- Cayetonto telling Isa that Rocio distanced them from Don Dan and insisted they move away to the city around the time Pablo was born.
- Cayetonto repeatedly saying that Pablo is not like anyone else in the family with his stubborness and streak of individuality.

I bet no one ever gets/serves 25 years unless it was a serial rapist, death resulted, or there was serious torture involved.

Yes, two worrisome advances in side plots: 1) Dionisio telling Omar to take care of the Lic. Becerra/Amanda situation; and 2) Leoncio thought bubbling about "his" child and thinking he has to get out of there. *shudder*

You are the best, Vivi!
Thx for splaining. I didn't know about the pic, or realize Cay had shared so much with Isa.
Have to admit I felt bad for Alonso. Can you imagine waking up like that, in the hospital a paraplegic with the nurse saying she is your mom? Not to mention knowing Isa is out to kill him.
Feliz ano nuevo Vivi y a todos de Caray!
Clara

Ay, that's Isadora, not Isabel.

How ridiculous that Cayatano is so mad at Rocio for being jealous, but that's how the guilty party usually behaves in that situation. I'll bet that if the situation were reversed, and Rocio wanted to comfort a single man over his problems, he'd have a cow.

Amanda would never be able to leave with Natalia because Natalia would never want to leave. And I don't know why Dion would care if Amanda left town, unless he just wants her nearby to continue to torment.

I know that the comandante told Bacera that he couldn't talk to Alonso but did he tell Bacerra that he would bring his papers with him when he interviewed Al?

If looks could kill, Rosario would be dead by now. Isa gave her the worst stink eye I've ever seen. Isa's dead meat if Al can talk.

I loved the quiet moments of this slow episode, like when Rosario closed the blinds in Hissadora's face. Rosario will do whatever it takes to protect her cub. But I'm afraid Hissadora will figure out who she is.

Couldn't help but shed a tear when Rosario told Al she's his mother. I think the writers intended for the audience to have already guessed this, because the moment still packed a punch for me, especially with her gentle response to why he can't move his body.

Dan looked so good in black in the argument with Dio, coming and going, that I found myself doing the "Quien es mas guapo" babytalk.

I'm with Vivi and Niecie, we needed a little respite from the drama of the several days before. I liked Daniel telling Camila that her uncle left him the two things Big Don Dan loved the most--La Malquerida and his niece. And now he loves them both, La Malquerida and the Buenquerida as he kisses her.

Vivi--I'm going to add your Isadora assumptions on Pablo's origins to Operation Shine the Light and other new revelations and relationships.

Everybody, the OSL post will always show up in the recap feed (see sidebar). I know not everyone can access it from there, so thank you, Vivi, for posting the link the other day.

I agree that Dio and Isa will probably be among the last faces we will see on the screen just before "el fin". It would be nice if they got the bad guys out of the way well enough in advance for us to see a couple of episodes of the good guys rebuilding their lives.

Can't believe I fell asleep and missed AV and AB!! I'm so angry with myself.

I'm enjoying all the comments. I can't believe Chayo could ever do what Hissa suggested, even though she said it was a promise mother and son made to each other.

I was surprised Hissa suggested such a thing to Chayo. Isn't she afraid Chayo would tell someone about it? Maybe she feels she is a timid soul and not a type to get involved with snitching?

I can't wait for your always wonderful recaps, Jard.

Happy New Year todos!!!

Ann-NYC

HPLP list coming later today.

Hissadora has made a few educated guesses about Rocio + Don Daniel = Pablo and she will wait until the right moment to move on it. I shudder at the idea of her grabbing La Buenaventura out from under Mariano and his dad.

Sortelegio fans:
I just heard a local commercial on the radio mentioning how different countries celebrate New Years and they mentioned Brazil celebrates it by wearing bright yellow underwear.

Oh, for cryin' out loud.... and do they walk the streets in it (considering it's summer in Brazil?).

Finally up and mainlining tea again...

Jar--a quick correction, before I go ahead and sing your praises.

Camila, we know, is not Don Daniel's daughter--Dan said sobrina, niece, but we get the point. Dan got both.

Loved the whole recap, but really enjoyed your intro and Rosario's new name--Nurse Chihuahua.

Something has bothered me about Dionisio for a long time now. He never seems to run out of money to pay big bucks for bribery and special hit man jobs. Where did he get this endless supply? Just scamming? Issa never seems to run out of money either although burning down her own house didn't seem to net her that much (in Her Humble Opinion). They could have put their funds together and paid off Al's penalty--but that would have left them without the rancho nor money. I guess we'll have to watch them scheme their way to death for the next 70 episodes. Uggh.

Vivi in DC: Thanks for the info about the weather in Aculco, where the TN is filmed. I google'd the name and found this great picture. It is a pretty place.

Wearing different colored underwear signifies different things there. As one rings in the new year, wearing red underwear is supposed to bring passion, pink underwear love, white underwear peace and green underwear luck.
Yellow underwear means money and with millions of people worried about the fallout from the credit crunch, they are flying off the shelves.
According to tradition, women must wash the underwear in the New Year and then wear them inside out on the first Friday of the year for the effect to work.

Anita, Dion has gotten a lot of money from Aggie's friends investing in her retirement community.

Jardinera- Great job. I loved that first paragraph describing the scene with FX and Gussy. I'd like to see those two get locked in a room together, with a couple of bottles of booze, for a few hours. That would be entertaining! I also enjoyed all you new names for poor Al.

At the end Al didn't say I can't be the son of a servant. He said his mother was a servant (not a nurse). I wonder how long it will take him to accept the truth. As you note, he doesn't have much time. Between the cops wanting to throw him in jail, and Isa and Dio out to kill him, he better take advantage of having a supportive mama by his side.

Not included in the recap was Cami getting the info from the hospital about Al's condition and telling Dan (who doesn't get it) that she wants to visit Al because she feels compassion for him. That was right before she went to speak with Luzma and Pablo about their wedding. That conversation didn't happen the evening before. It's a good thing Cami wants to see Al, because he's eager to speak to her. But since the cops won't let anyone in, I'm guessing that Chayo will have to serve as a go-between for them.

Anita, I think El Diablo has been a grifter his entire adult life. He's also seems to multitask at it.

Hissadora might also have been doing so, but on a smaller scale.

Lovely pics of Aculco Aleta! Thanks.

Yeah, I'm sure for Dio the MQ scam is just his latest scam (although probably one of the largest). I'm sure he's built a nice fortune on many past scams (and current ones like the insurance/retirement funds scam).

It's interesting to think that even though he may have a small fortune, it's never enough. It's like a gambling addiction. Win or lose, you want to do it some more. It's the formulating, plotting and carrying out the scam that gets his adrenaline going. He never seems to take a break to enjoy his "winnings," rather it fuels the fire for the next *big* one.

I completely agree with that. He gets off on outsmarting his victims just as much as he enjoys the money.

Something also tells me that he has never previously been so delusional as to think he could take Camila away from anyone like Daniel... or that Augustina will sit still for it.

The idea of Leoncerdo breaking out of the prison is too distasteful to imagine. However, I can see him trying to once Luzma has the baby (if she doesn't have a miscarriage first).

Thanks for the recap Jardinera. I didn't think this episode was a sleeper at all.

That man who was at the hostel dining and Amanda gave him his food before she sat with Osvaldo overheard them talking and then texted Omar. That's how Omar knew what Amanda and Osvaldo were planning.

Before Cam and Dan went there separate ways in her cabana, Dan said he was going to talk to his father. I hope Francisco spills the beans about Isa and Dion kissing and that Isa contacted him to get in on the inheritance.

Week of December 24, 2012:

Highpoints:

Cam is saved, thanks to Roman.
Bruno bites the dust, literally.
Al gets his proof.
Cam and Dan kissing as they wheel her in the hospital, while Dio looks on.
Refugio smirking at Rocio’s jealousy.
Mariano mans up and admits his feelings to Cam.
Al is alive.
Amanda tells Os about Dio’s threats.
Pablo telling Iago to lay off Nat. Who’s the older brother here?
Isa refused admittance to Al’s room.
Dio threatens Isa with a sharp instrument.
Isa, once again snows Dio I’m King of the World nicio---again.
Cayetano falling for Isa—old fart (see below).
Aaron’s funeral shirt.
Rocio being intelligent for once by saying re: Isa that everyone has a past.
The actor who plays Francisco does an excellent drunk.
Now that Ileana is not trying to break up Pablo and Luz, I’m kind of liking her villainy.
Al’s real mama is taking care of him (see below).
Dan wipes the smile off of Dio’s face (when he mentions his engagement?)—at least for a moment.
Isa’s being thwarted in her plan to off Al.
Ileana and Rudolfo begin their plan.
Pablo and Luz still going ahead with the wedding.
Al’s conscious and completely amnesia free.
Rosario reveals to Al she’s his real mama.

Low Points:

Dan no longer owns La Mequerida.
Agustina getting on my last nerve with her snarky attitude re: Dan.
Cayetano coming to Isa’s rescue (debating also putting this in highpoints because he so derserves what he’s going to get) (see above).
Iago, once again, treats Nat like dirt—and she takes it.
Xi is definitely dead. She really didn’t deserve such a horrific end.
Amanda accepts Os. But her heart just doesn’t seem into it. Poor Os.
Nat searching Dio’s office expecting him to leave incriminating documents for anybody to find.
The local cop has the world’s worst timing.
Al’s a quadrapelgic.
If the fact that Rosario is Al’s mom was supposed to be a big reveal to Viewerville, the writers failed.
Vivi rejects Rafa.
Os and Mandy’s plans to escape have been overheard by Dio’s henchman.
Pablo and Luz cannot have a well deserved fairy tale wedding due to the household being in mourning.
Leo thinks he has claim to his kid (shudder)
Leo has a champion in prison.
Al realizes something is horribly wrong with him.

Thanks Jardinera for the excellent recap.

Why would Aaron leave Vivi’s to give Rafa and her more space? Now that Bruno is dead, Rafa doesn’t need to stay with Vivi anymore.

Why isn’t Al in one of those head brace thingys? And why didn’t his mama call a doctor as soon as he regained consciousness, especially since he was so agitated?

Did not expect Rosario to reveal who she was to Al so soon.

If Al is incapacitated, wouldn’t Isa have the authority to run La Melquerida as his closest relative?

Cathyx: “If looks could kill, Rosario would be dead by now. Isa gave her the worst stink eye I've ever seen.”—so true and you know I love the stink eye.

If Luz has a miscarriage, will she feel guilty about it because she cannot love the baby?

Nanette

Thank you Nanette! Looking at this week's list, shows just how much has happened in the last week. Wow! And they even managed to throw in a few romantic moments too.

Last night I started to feel like Amanda's heart was a bit more into starting something with Osvaldo, when she saw how passionate and committed he is, and willing to experience a new life adventure with her. Anyone else feel that way?

And was Nat affected at all by seeing Rod with Illy? I couldn't be sure. Even if (when) Nat and Yago break up, I don't think Illy will ever have a chance with Yago. And I'm starting to get the feeling that she likes kissing Rod a LOT-- not just for show. I think she's going to be one confused girl by the end of this, and it might just be her and Nat fighting over Rod, not Yago.

Nanette- Aaron clearly told Vivi that he knows Rafa has declared his feelings for her, and he feels that if he (Aaron) is out of the way things between Vivi and Rafa can flow more naturally. He said he doesn't want to be the third wheel. So Rafa staying had nothing to do with protecting Vivi. It was all about facilitating romance.

Vivi: I understand that, but the original reason for Rafa staying was to protect Vivi. Vivi has already relayed that she's not sure how she feels about Rafa, so it doesn't make sense for Aaron to leave to make way for Rafa to stay. It did sound like from the recap/comments that perhaps Vivi wants them BOTH to stay. But if she doesn't, then it makes more sense for Rafa to return home and Aaron to stay as her guest.

I am having the worst time trying to get across what I mean. I don't think I've done it properly.

Vivi, I thought it was difficult to tell if Nat was bothered by Rodolfo kissing Ileana. She didn't act like she was, she seemed more startled by it, like I was when Ileana proposed doing this with him. I don't really get her motive, maybe she's bored and horny. But Rodolfo seemed to get into the kissing after a while.

Viv didn't reject Rafa, she said that she's not sure about how she feels about him. That's why she agreed to be alone for a while to sort out her feelings. And we all know absence grows the heart fonder.

Jardinera, the weekend recap is always worth the wait. I had to grab a glass of the grape before sitting down to read. I just have to say your way with language is astonishing. Alliteration combined with acerbic wit. Pardon me if I quote excessively (in admiration & enjoyment)

"...besmirching the otherwise fantastical image..."

"As for Gussie, she’s disgusted..."

"The Frankster can only slosh down a bit more of the liquid bitters at that since damn’ed if Gussie doesn’t have a match point there!! "

Then, the "d" paragraph beginning with "the domineering and dastardly Dionisio..."

And the L & P paragraph "a muslin muzzled Pervertido de Leo...Luzma’s lecherous Unce Leo.  Luzma, Piedad and Pablo ..."

Love the "Probable escape alert!!" Most likely, I would say.

"...with Issa loose and eager to either kill or lenguanize him, we’ve got some real nail-bitin’ times ahead.."

"might-as-well-be-limbless-de-Lonso...the eventually loquacious Lonnie. "

"Vernacular translation: What a major cluster-f@#k!!" Well said, amiga

"we shall not forget that old Roc knows a thing or two about that of which she doth gritch."

"Hopefully somebody will realize what a nifty hunk of hombre he really is" This was one awkward situation, made my skin crawl a tad bit.

Toungeless ElCerdo and legless ALonso: more parallels. Both could do major damage to Hissadora.

"Dio advises Hissadora that she’s bitten off a bit more than she can chew in order to eschew and dodge detection by asking that nurse to off the newly limp-limbed Lon." Jardinera, I am in awe. These things must just roll off your brain.

Thanks for the Iago, Illy, Nati discussion. totally on point. I missed a lot of the verbiage, but got the gist. Your summary was perfect.

"This faction of Viewerville agrees with that if nothing else" Why is she even having this baby? I am so hoping for a miscarriage. Is this bad of me? Piedad has a beautiful long, thick braid.

"...not only muzzled but puzzled..."

I'll stop here, but brava! amiga. You did it again as usual.

Nanette, Aaron probably knows that Viv could develop feelings for him, if she hasn't already. Aaron knows that Rafa is in love with her, so he's not going to stay with Viv to jeopardize what Rafa might have with Viv. Why doesn't Aaron move back to Rafa's place instead of stay at the hostel?

I don't think Rafa or Aaron feel that Vivi has made it clear that she doesn't want to start something with Rafa-- just that she's uncertain. Aaron feels that with him out of their way, nature would take its course more naturally between the two. Meanwhile, Vivi has not expressed to anyone, but Camila, that she may have a romantic interest in Aaron. So Aaron would have no reason to think that the one who should stay is him, while Rafa goes. He is certain that Vivi and Rafa belong together.

At the breakfast table, Vivi expressed her desire for them BOTH to stay. She wants things to stay the same. When she spoke to Camila, she also seemed confused about what she feels for both of them. I don't think she would be pleased to have Rafa leave and Aaron stay, any more than she was pleased with the idea of Aaron leaving and Rafa staying.

Cathyx- Rafa gave up the lease on his place. He doesn't have a place anymore.

I think I meant that Rafa really did not have any excuse to stay once Bruno was dead and he no longer needed to be there to protect Vivi. I do agree that Aaron could move in with Rafa. I hadn't thought of that. If Vivi is conflicted, then she doesn't need either one of them at her place.

Cathyx: Didn't realize Rafa gave up the lease on his place. So Aaron and he either need to lease a new place or both go to the hostel.

I think Natalia is probably a little concerned for Rodolfo because of Ileana's nastiness. As naive as Natalia is about men she is probably less so about other women and therefore might know that Ileana is bad news.

I must have asked this before, but don't the Albarrans know about Ileana's family's financial situation? Shouldn't they be worried about her wanting to marry into the family por interes?

Urban- Ileana is such a failure at seduction that I don't think it will ever be an issue. I don't think ANY Alberran boy is going to be declaring his desire to marry her any time soon. She will just continue to be a pampered, and mostly ignored, houseguest, trying to fill her time with small town intrigue. Kissing on Rodolfo has been her best plan yet. I wouldn't mind it myself! :)

She may suffer the fate of Princesa in Rebeca who decided to go slumming in revenge and then fell for working class Martin.

UA: there was that character in CME who got a crush on Laz.

Or she seduces one of them (I guess it has to be Yago) and gets pregnant.

It would serve Iago right to be stuck with her. He's the one who really has her number.

UA--Long ago Iliana's father sat down and had the "I'm poor because of some bad business deals" talk with Cayetano. The Albarrans certainly do know Ili's situation. They have big hearts (to those at their social level) and are willing to have Ili stay on rather than go back to certain circumscribed circumstances.

Actually I rather like Iago and Iliana together. They will constantly be one-upping each other in the seduction department--but always come back to each other.

Even though she seemed to like kissing Rodo, I don't think he's a serious contender for her heart. She's too much into revenge and pulling Iago and Nat apart. She doesn't really care if Natalia gets back with him or not. She's just gaming him.

Nanette, wasn't her name Ariel? If it is, that would be amazing because I don't remember anyones names. If that isn't her name, then her name is the woman who was the girlfriend of that really bad guy who had the hots for Renata who was younger than him and had blonde hair and she sabotaged the wine and he lost it all.

Cathyx- Her name was Arely, and she did sabotage Augie's special wine, which earned her a death sentence. Then Super Laz helped her get out of town, and they pretended she had been killed.

Cathyx: don't remember her name, but your description is spot on.

Vivi, you have an incredible memory, like Gringo said on the other thread. It's either that or you are on the writing team of these TNs, (which is what I secretly suspect, lol) Which would be OK too.

Arely. I can't believe I didn't remember it. I can recall now thinking, at the time, it was one of the prettiest names ever (I still think so).

Cathyx: Vivi is scary TN smart.

She advises to have DDA get his Mexican citizenship first, then collect his inheritance, and to have this mystery solved first before ever considering returning to Chile.
-------------------

Has Daniel actually legally accepted possession of La Malquerida? Because if he hasn't, wouldn't Camila still be the administrator and any agreement to hand over possession would have to be signed by her (which she didn't b/c she was kidnapped)?

And since she's not the legal owner of MQ she couldn't hand over possession, right? That was the whole point of putting out a hit on Daniel in Chile, so that MQ could then pass to Camila.

Can Dan sign over ownership of something that he hasn't legally claimed yet?

What did you all think of Dan's streak of machismo? We know with Miriam, he refused living off of her inheritance, and it doesn't seem that Miriam worked. He was the sole provider. Now he does not want to live off of Camila's inheritance or earnings. Although, he's not forbiding her to work (not like he could!). Camila seemed to take it in stride and thought it was cute/funny. But I could have seen that turning into an argument had she decided to take offense.

Anon207- I just assumed Dan and Osvaldo had taken care of all of that (Dan taking possession of the ranch) behind the scenes. Since we did see them together taking care of the citizenship application, I figured they must be taking care of the other stuff too.

Anon207, that is an important legal point. Here in the US that would be a major stumbling block to this whole business of signing it over to Alonssso.

Vivi, you point to the one thing left in developed nations that is evidence of machismo: the ability to make mucho dinero. Humans no longer have to hunt mammoth, nobody in his right mind wants to go to war, so there are only a few acceptable ways to express manhood. Dan has two of those already that Camila knows well; the third is providing for her.

So, are the three things protector, lover, provider?

Abraham chided Dan that he was a kept man when he was out of work, so I think that's part of why it's a sore point with him. And since Abraham thought that Dan was only after her money, the fact that he was out of work made it worse. I have no problem with Dan wanting to work also, he doesn't seem to have a problem with Camila working too, he just wants to also be a bread winner. And if they have children, I'm sure they both would expect Camila to be the main caretaker of them.

That's my question. Who is actually legally running the ranch now?

Nanette- Alonso is.

Jardinera, Pure enjoyment for us in readerville! Thank you.

One question: you refer to Camila as Ximena's "kid sis". Unless I'm reading your words incorrectly or missed something, isn't Camila the older of the girls? Agustina was married first to Camila's father, widowed, then she married Frank, who knew Camila as a child. Again, I could have it wrong, given the many twists and turns (that I love) in this novela.

Vivi -- yes, I agree that Camila could have been irritated by Daniel's macho need to be the breadwinner. But like Camila, I thought he was at his best at that moment -- handsome, gallant and not a leech, like a certain patient being cared for by his real mom now. Camila has never been taken care of by any man except her uncle, so the change would be nice. I confess to thinking that I underestimated CDF at the start. He's grown into quite a galan, in part because his character tries to take good care of those around him and the actor is very credible in those kinds of scenes. And, let's not forget his good looks!

I agree with you all. I can see why this is a sore point for Dan given his history with Miriam, her bother, and being out of work. I'm glad that Camila didn't take it the wrong way, and saw it for what it was-- Dan's way of expressing his love and respect for her by wanting to contribute/provide for the family they are forming together.

Traveling Lady- Yes. Cami was older than Xi.

That's her brother, but Abe was a bother too...

Ximena callled Camila hermanita often. So I can see where the confusion comes in. I think it would be like calling your sister sissy, even if she were older.

Cathyx: But since Alonso can't run the ranch, would it be Isa, do you think, who's in charge since she's his next of kin?

First off, many thanks to Jardinera for all the laughs! What a witty and wonderful recap!

About the weather in the area, I just had a look at a map and realized that Aculco is really close to where I lived in Mexico. It’s in a neighboring state, not the one that I lived in, so I didn’t realize it right away. Actually, the first few weeks I watched AB, I thought it was set in Zacatecas and kept wondering why the countryside sure didn’t look like anything like Zacatecas, but that’s another story. *eye roll*

This area is tropical, semi-arid highlands. I loved the climate there and it is not wet or humid at all. At about 5,000 – 7,000 feet of elevation, there is no such thing as humidity. ‘Rainy season’ only means it is rainier than the dry season, not that it is like Seattle (where I have also lived). So in the dry season it might rain once or twice a month, if that, and in the ‘wet’ season it might rain two or three times a week, usually just for a short time in the afternoon, evening or at night, like they showed in this episode. It’s also a lot cloudier.

It’s a rich agricultural area. In general, they have to irrigate for crops but they can graze with less water, so cattle ranching has always been big around there. It is the only area of Mexico (I think) where grapes are grown and wine is produced, and that takes a sunny, dry climate – think Italy, Spain, Greece, and the south of France. (This part of Mexico is further south, but higher elevation, so there are other differences.)

I would also say that, depending on the year, the ‘wet’ season might only be mid June to mid September. Temps are mild, for Mexico, and really drop at night, again due to the elevation. The warmest daytime highs are in the 90s and mostly in the high 70s or 80s. The coolest time of year is December and January and there can be frosts and maybe highs only in the high 50s, but it can also be in the upper 70s and you only need a light sweater in the evening. So, in AB they are dressing as people do in that climate, with sundresses in the daytime and leather jackets in the evening and everything in between. From the amount of greenery in the scenes at the ranches, I’d say it was filmed in the ‘wet’ season. Otherwise it would all be crispy brown.

I wish there would be more specific references to characters' ages in novelas. I realize a lot of the time it's because the actors are playing characters older or younger than themselves. Silvia Navarro is 34 and Laura Carmine is 29, so it would be believable that Camila's father would have died shortly after she was born and Augustina would have married Francisco within two or three years.

I don't recall Camila ever talking about her father, so that is what sounds right to me.

BTW, beware of spoilers on IMDB.

Nanette, Alonso is in his full capacity so he can run it. Osvaldo wants him to sign over the deed back to Dan. We are waiting for this to happen. If something were to happen to Al, i.e. die or become unconscious or otherwise incapacitated, then Isa is his heiress. That's why she tried to kill him and wants him to die now.

It seems like many of the actors in this tn are actually playing true (or close) to their age. Cami, Dan, Al, Vivi, Rafa, and Aaron are supposed to be in their early to mid 30s, and for the most part, all of those actors are. Xi was in her 20s, and so is Laura Carmine. And the actors playing late-teens/early 20s are actually in their early 20s.

Jard, some of the commenters said this episode was a snore fest. Since I missed it, I couldn't say. But reading your recap I didn't want your recap to end. I loved it.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!!!

Ann-NYC

Cathyx: I don't think Al is capable of running the ranch at this point, even with his brain fully functioning. He is still newly injured and I doubt he could make businesslike decisions on a regular basis at this point in time. But what I really meant was who would be a physical presence in the running of the ranch. The person actually onsite at the present time. Does Cam still have that power?

This depends on Dan's legal position as owner prior to his signing the property over to Alonssso. If Mexican law requires him to be present in court or a notary's office with witnesses to claim it in the first place and they missed that step, the document handing it over to Alonssso could be null and void. Camila would still have authority as executrix.

These bad guys just can't cut a break! Of all the nurses in all the hospitals in all of Mexico...

Carolina- Thanks for the info about the area. I always wonder but never bother to look it up. Except that the area just inland of Ensenada in Baja is also big in winerys. Sadly, we can only bring one bottle back at a time through a 2 hour border wait or I'd consider going down.

Kelly

Ok. Corrections made. Sorry, but I was racing through and made a couple of mental typos.
Thanks!

Jardinera thanks for the recap. While things were slow (which I liked), more ground work was being laid for interesting plot developments.

It does seem that the writers are planning on awful tio to get loose. As Traveling Lady noted its hard to make Luzma's situation positive.

I really hope Dio doesn't have Os killed.

Had to take my kitty Bunny to the emergency vet tonight (I caught her chewing on a croton leaf), so I'm up late reading the blog again and thinking about things ... like poor Alonso ... he won't be able to chew his nails now!

Aleta

We do want the Tongueless One to get out of jail though. Surely he will be the one to dispatch Isadora. I would think Isadora would be his first stop before kidnapping Luzma's baby or whatever else he's plotting.

Aleta

I ask about Dan's legal possession of MQ because Teresa told Anselmo that Dan needed to get his Mexican citizenship and claim his inheritance. She may not know about the kidnapping/handover of MQ. That's why I wanted to know if Dan had legally taken possession of MQ or not.

Kelly wrote:

"These bad guys just can't cut a break! Of all the nurses in all the hospitals in all of Mexico..."

Makes me wonder where she was when Alonso had his heart attack and the doctor was explaining its cause to everyone in the waiting room.

She may have just gotten hired there?

This will be an interesting development one way or the other.

Jardinera - Great title. Love that you always weave in vocab.

I think Amanda is starting to warm up to Becerra. Maybe it's just me, but he seems to be taking Caray's advice and jazzing his style appeal - I think he updated his haircut.

On Nat, I believe she was bothered by seeing Bratgirl kiss Rodolfo. She played it off with Yago as just surprise, but I think it threw her. I also hope she gets to see Rodolfo taking Bratgirl to the movies, etc. and openly introducing her to his friends so she will get sick of Yago's shoddy treatment.

Wonderful recap, Jardinera. I wish I had been able to post soon after you put it up, because you had so many delightful turns of phrase I wanted to highlight, but LXV has beaten me to it. So I'll just say "What LXV said."

Anyway, thanks very very much for the excellent recap and the embedded vocab.

Niece: maybe she'll get points in the overall scheme of things for helping Nat and Rod get back together and unwittingly saving her from Yago's ungentlemanly clutches. IMO she's really got revenge against Yago in mind, rather than wanting him for herself. Hmmm.

Thanks, all for taking the time to read and when and if it gave you a few chuckles, all the better! I hope you all have a terrific New Year's Eve and Day. I plan to!

As to the land cede (ViviDC feel free to correct my faulty memory here)I believe that was the one/main reason they had a copy of Dan's birth certificate sent up from Chile by Teresa to Padre Anselmo a few days back. It was so Dan could prove he was Don Daniel's real and legal heir as the real and true DDA, and then to get his Mexican citizenship secondarily. Also, were there bank accounts as part of his part of the inheritance? I thought Cam was the administrator but she only received, along with Gussie, a monthly stipend, and then the only other thing Don Daniel left Cam was his townhouse. All the rest is Daniel's tho' he wants it to be handed over to Camila.

Jardinera- Yep. That all sounds right to me.

Happy New Year everyone!

Niecie: "I also hope she gets to see Rodolfo taking Bratgirl to the movies, etc. and openly introducing her to his friends so she will get sick of Yago's shoddy treatment."--I love this idea. I also hope you are right about Amanda and Os. When she finally accepted his proposal, she didn't look all that convinced. I hope she's not just using him (unintentionally) to get away.

Jard: I think Ileana has thought bubbled how she's out to get revenge on Iago because he wouldn't back her up re: Luz and her uncle.

I think the reason Francisco is so torn up about Xi is because she was the only one who paid any sort of attention to him. She was his only "ally".

It looks to me that Francisco is torn up about Xi because she was his only route to the money. DDA isn't going to give him the time of day, so FX is SOL.

I think Nat is about to discover she cares more for Rudolf than she ever knew.

I sure would hate to see Os get targeted by Dio and his henchmen, but aren't the Scoobie Brothers moving out of Vivi's cool guys' crash pad and into Amanda's? They ought to be able to help keep him safe, and Amanda, too, for that matter.

With all the questions swirling around about the ownership and management of the MalQ, I can see why the staff might be getting nervous about their future paychecks. I would be, too.

It's a very interesting question about whether that transfer was legal. It seems there are a number of routes for Dan-n-Cam to get the ranch back. The transfer could be illegal either because Dan wasn't authorized to make it or for some other reason. Al could wake up and cooperate and sign it back over to them. And I am still having trouble understanding why couldn't it be returned as any victim's property would be after a crime?

I know it was explained that since Dan didn't notify the police of the kidnapping before the transfer, he can't claim it was extortion, but that doesn't seem fair to me. In a kidnapping situation, it isn't always possible to notify police, kidnappers nearly always are going to threaten terrible things if the police are contacted, and people would always be frantic to get their loved ones back asap. As long as you can prove it was kidnapping after the fact, which our heroes should be able to do, why would the criminals get to keep the profits? That would seem to be a very pro-criminal and anti-victim law. Al could go to jail for kidnapping but still keep the MalQ? Help me out, here. How does that make any sense?

Nanette: Yep. Xi was blood of his blood -- the only one who was like him and truly understood him and in the end could tolerate or, at least, "appreciate" ol' Frank because they were both cut out of the same cloth IMHO. :?)

Carolina: I think you're on to something. Not extortion but perhaps use the argument of a "ransom". I don't know much about the law at all and so I can only hope there's a last ditch loop hole in this story.
=================

BTW has somebody considered and mentioned Farco may have been "offed" by either Dio or Trench early on? Sorry if I missed that.....

LXV: Naw, Agnes, I've just been spending an inordinate amount of time with spelling games on the internet. Roget is still my best bud when struggling to produce. Je-je-je!

Jar: It's certainly a possibility that Farco has been killed. But I still think that he took Miriam and the baby and is hiding out.

If Dan were not eligible to sign over the ranch, it seems to me that Osvaldo would be aware of that.

Unless Osvaldo hid that from everyone until after Camila turned up safe and sound.

Ximeana was no route to Dan's dinero because he was not obliged to share it with her. If that worthless thief had come to live at La Malquerida and behaved like a decent human being she would have gotten an allowance and an inheritance similar to her mother's. Instead she stayed away with an attitude.

I agree that her punishment was excessive, but may have been the only way to stop her aiding and abetting of Hissadora's crimes.

Camila has been safe and sound for some time now and Os continues to tell them that the ranch is Al's. It would have been nice if Os had done something sneaky so that the turnover was not legit; I was hoping for that as I watched Dan sign the papers, but it doesn't look like he did. I don't think he's wired that way.

FX has been clutching at straws for some time now, ever since the cobrar was revealed to be fake and certainly since the real Dan stepped forward. Working with Xi, he may have been able to weasel something out of Dan, or at least that's what I thought he had in mind. With her gone and Dan's attitude towards him made clear, he has no shot at any money and, as I said above, it's high time for him to go.

Carolina: I'd like FX to stay just for comedy relief.

He also knows some things that are going to be important to the Scoobies.

Thanks Jardinera for the great recap, and Happy New Year to you And the entire Caray family, lurkers and all. Dan was forced to sign the document under duress which would allow him to challenge the transfer of the property. Plus Al would not be allowed to gain from a criminal act, (normally that is, who knows what TN laws allow). Enjoy the eve and the day all!! Read you next year.
Yola

Nanette, I tried to find him funny, but it just isn't happening. Maybe more wine would help? I do hope he sticks around just long enough to blab what he knows. :-)

Yola, I think you are exactly right, it's the who knows TN laws that are the problem!

Aleta: Hoping Bunny is back safe and sound from the vet. If it's a croton, do you live in FL?

I don't find him funny either. Deadbeat fathers are the scum of the earth.

As for Franky, the character is a real creep, but the actor is having a good time playing the wisenheimer here and I enjoy the actor's timing immensely --JMO. He does now have a facial tic he never used to have, but I remember seeing it about the time he starred as the heroine's father in Pasión". In El Manantial from the early 2000's he played the good doctor and the female competition's daddy. He had no tic then.

=/ ; ? ))

To all the lurkers and the commenters, and the tremendously dedicated group of recappers on this entire site, especially Melinama, whose idea the Caray, Caray! blogsite was, I just wanted to wish all a Happy and Properous New Year!!

Jardinera, I remember when the tic started during the run of Pasiòn. Wasn't there some discussion about his having had a stroke? —Agnes

I wouldn't mind seeing bratgirl fall really hard for Rofolfo, and having Natalia see Rodolfo courting from a distance. If this were to happen? I could root for bratgirl to become a good girl and be redeemed. Then Omar can tell Natalia that Yago treats her like dirt and if she was his woman, he'd treat her like a queen. Then he'd make plans for a legit career.

FX needs to tell Aggie about Dio and Isa and that Xi knew too. Maybe then she'll believe it.

Thanks for all of the updates and comments! I missed all of the episodes last week, so I appreciate the recaps!

Netgirl: I was thinking Omar for Nat, too, but didn't think that would work because he's in the villain camp. Now if he redeemed hiself. . . :)

Himself. I still have trouble typing on my phone.

Happy New Year to all the recappers and commentators of Caray,Caray. I hope that everyone enjoys a year of peace and happy times with friends and family. It's a great treat to read such interesting and smart ideas every day, especially those offered by our tireless recappers.

Hasta martes!

LXV: Agnes, yeah I believe I remember that discussion also. He had a heart attack/stroke in the story, so it sort of went with the possible real-life physical results I remember thinking.

Oh my goodness! I step away for a few days and come back to 128 comments?!!! Lots of catch-up reading and laughs for me today!

I couldn't help but wonder how Al will now bite his nails.

Everyone be safe. Here I go nagging. Don't drink and drive and really do your defensive driving if you are the DD.

Wish AB was going to be on tonight.

Okay, just got to read this hysterical recap. Thank you Jardinera! I especially loved:
-"every dog (and/or dawg)"
and
-"might-as-well-be-limbless-de-lonso" LOL Sooooo delightfully bad!

Whoever coined the phrase "if looks could kill" must have seen the glare that Hiss gave Chayo. Absolutely chilling!

As I'm dreading going to the store, I will save reading the comments til I return. That will be my reward for gutting it up on a slushy day.

Man, I sure wish AB was coming on tonight. I wish to find out what will happen next. I hope Leoncio never escapes, though its possible he might. I enjoyed the conviction scene.

The low point of this episode was where Isadora gave Rosario the stink eye. I don't know how Daniel will reclaim MQ. Since Iliana is no longer trying to break up Pablo and Luzma, I'm beginning to enjoy her prescence on the show, but she still gets on my nerves.

I don't know why Farcas is on leave, but we'll find out later on I'm sure. Now that Bruno's dead, he'll no longer have to bother Viviana.

By the way, did anyone notice that Rosario is played by the same actress that played Asuncion in Mi Pecado? It is Tina Romero.

Greetings and hallucinations to all on this New Year's Eve. Just got back from the city after seeing my friends off on Metro North. We had such a big lunch I won't have any appetite until tomorrow.

Who's New Year's program do you watch? I tune in to Univision because of the better music (when they have some).

Hallucinations? I'll have what she's having!

Not a big fan of the New Years celebrations, although it was funny when Poor Taylor Swift had to share a stage with Joe Jonas right after he dumped her.

I still have the last night of one of the conventions recorded that I haven't watched in full. Even though we know who won, I still enjoy hearing the speeches. I'll just pretend it's a NYE party.

Jardinera - what spelling games do you do on the internet? That sounds like fun.

Jardinera, as much as I love Roget's, I usually turn to the "Cinnamon" book whenever I have to write something. Faster and easier. I still think it's a function of your brains that make the alliterations pour out the way they do. But, when I write, I usually have to go back and edit them out, because once a word is suggested, I find it reappears within the paragraph in an ungainly way. —Agnes

Being on the west coast, we don't hit the new year until the rest of the country already has. I can not stay up that late, it's not very exciting to me. The last time I stayed up until midnight was 2000. I was just curious about what may happen.
i'll probably fall asleep at 9:00pm like always. Even when I try to stay up later, I can't.

Jardinera: Bunny is doing fine. Thanks for asking. Crotons are only mildly toxic to cats, it seems. They don't affect the liver or kidneys, but can cause gastro distress or ulcers in the mouth.

And yes, I'm in Florida, in Merritt Island near the Kennedy Space Center.

Aleta

¡Feliz Año Nuevo, amigos! ¡Mucho suerte y prosperidad á todos!

UA: I like the timing of your last post.

I used to be a New Year's Eve person but I'm not anymore. I don't like the noise and the crowds. I was in bed at midnight but I was awake.

And now I have to go back to work tomorrow. Back to getting up at 4:15 AM and having to watch AB the next day because 10:00 is just too late for me. Last week I stayed up to watch it. No more.

¡Prospero Año Nuevo a todos!

Sue, do you work where I do? I also have to get up at 4:15. Given no one actually works with me, I guess that is not so, but I sure get you with those early mornings and having to catch AB the next day. I ALMOST gave up on it in the first week or two. It seemed so dark. Boy, am I glad I stuck around!

UA- PERFECT timing with your New Year's wish! Thank you, and may I wish everyone health, happiness and snark in 2013!

Who was that (guy?) in the blue suit on Uni last night?

I get up at 4:15am too. I teach Jazzercise and my class is the early bird, 5:45am. But I've always been a morning person and this class fits me perfectly.

Even waking at 4:15, I am the last to get up. Hubby leaves at 4:30 and Daughter (before she moved to Iowa) was a personal trainer with 5:00 clients.

Good for you teaching that Jazzercize, cathyx! You can't flake out and not show up. I exercise in my basement while watching my TNs. The more I watch, the fitter I get! I guess that's why 4 out of 5 doctors recommend tuning in to Univision.

Rosemary, it's true, my brain must be turned on that early to teach it. That's why I need time for coffee and to go over what I'm doing. But I have no motivation to exercise at home on my own like you do. That takes more motivation than I have.

Happy New Year AB amigos!!!

I didn't realize we had so many early risers here. 4:15am? Yikes! Uhm...I went to bed at 4:14 last night. But that's just because I got home at 3:30. Since I live 4 blocks away from work, I can stay up late, and still wake up early enough to get online, chat at Caray, and still get to work before all of my coworkers who live in the burbs. I get home way before they do too. Urban living! :)

Vivi, it sounds like you partied hard. When I'm an old lady, I would like to live in the city. Without a yard to take care of and not have to drive if I don't want to.

So, basically when Vivi goes to bed she can think of Sue455, cathyx and I just getting up. Good thing we are on different time zones, Vivi! We may never have met!

City life is pretty fun. Not that Salt Lake has much of one. My son lives right in downtown Kansas City and there is something fun to do every night, from free concerts in the park (including Neon Trees)to a trolley pub crawl to various hubs of activities within blocks of each other to celebrating NYE in an old airplane hangar, they never run out of new places to go.

Any good resolutions, amigos?

Going to bed at 4am is a rare thing. However I did it the last two nights in a row! I need a nap. Got to get the body clock back on track by work tomorrow. :)

RlaO- I like your empty nest avatar. Although it sounds like you have plenty to keep you busy, even without your daughter nearby. I've changed mine since the pic on the boat is too summery for the season.

I am a cook in a corporate cafeteria and my day begins at 6:00. I eat breakfast and get all my news online before I leave; then it's a half-hour commute. I leave work at 2:00. It's always light when I leave but it's dark 9 months of the year when I drive in. Last week I was on vacation and avoided a particularly nasty batch of mixed precip. Well, not having to work weeknights or weekends or most holidays is worth it, I guess.

Vivi - I love your new picture. You really are so photogenic. Enjoy your late nights while you are young! Oh, and movies too. Can't seem to stay away in those much anymore either. lol

Sue, I'm with you on starting earlier and getting off earlier. I work some long days, and then have an extra weekday off which I love.

Vivi, great picture.
Rosemary, I love the Neon Trees. We have a Jazzercise song by them.
I like to work early and end early too. But because we have an early schedule at my home, we eat dinner early too. So if we get invited to friends or family for dinner, it's usually really late for us. Then I hate going to bed on a full stomach.

Happy New Year to all my friends here at Caray Caray. What a great bunch to hang out with.

Thanks for another delightful recap Jardinera. I always get such a kick out of your wicked and often wacky humor. I'm still around watching and reading but here lately I've fallen behind from time to time but always manage to catch up.

Love your newest photo Vivi.

Vivi, it's been some time since we've spotted the Sacred Pear Robe, but have you noticed that Camila is wearing the same flowered robe that you featured her wearing in your Pear Robe Project? Is this now the new iconic robe?

Carlos

Carlos- I did notice the flowered robe and wondered if it's SN's own robe since it's the 2nd tn she's worn it in. It's a bit more faded now that it was a few years ago during MEPS. I miss the Pear Robe though. I wonder if Televisa has retired it? I think Xi would have been a great candidate to wear it.

Thanks Jardinera for a marvelous recap. I'm glad I finally caught up to be in time to tell you how much I loved it. Though others have mentioned it, my best laugh of all was "might-as-well-be-limbless-de-Lonso". Does that make me a unkind person?

Aleta, as follow-up to Jardinera's always clever writing, I also chuckled over your "thinking about things ... like poor Alonso ... he won't be able to chew his nails now!" And, glad Bunny is OK!

I couldn't really get a take on whether Nat was affected by Rodolfo and Brat Girl. She seemed surprised but didn't really seem jealous or upset. I really want her to dump Yucko. I want it pretty bad.

I agree, cathyx, the Vivi/Aaron/Rafael breakfast scene was awkward. I actually thought that Aaron seemed a little pissy about Vivi not falling into line with the Rafael and Vivi loveshack idea.

Jardinera, I'm with you about Rosario running her hands all over Al-Limbless. Geez, the guy just woke up, is realizing he's paralyzed, and some stranger is definitely invading his space. I maybe can understand Chayo's emotions, but it seems a little clueless on her part.

Vivi, thanks for mentioning where I had seem Camila's robe before! I knew it was familiar despite not having pears on it. So it was MEPS! And on SN no less! Thanks!

Hi all! Nice to see some chatter today, though I thought most would be getting over their exuberant showering in of 2013. Anyway, thank you again to all who read and or dropped in and commented!
==========
Carlos, you and your bad boy ways were somewhoat "oded" last week.....
===========
LXV: Agnes, thanks for the link!!! I bookmarked it for next week's reference immediately.
==========
RlaO: Bookworm (can only find the basic) and Boggle, mainly.

One of the Daily Double answers just now on Jeopardy was kimodo dragon. It made me think of Isadora.
