Amor Bravío #94 (Uni 89) Fri 12/28/12 It's ¡Mama Mia! for Alonso; Or Mad, Sad, and Had Mamas R Us--Incite And Insight
If ever a bunch of mothers--evil stepmothers included--had a reason to gripe and gritch, it's this bunch. All get a go at it tonight. Though this gripe-fest is more of a snore-fest, we do have a confession from Nurse Chihuahua as we observe her fighting to protect her quadriplegic pup from that she-wolf in lambskin leathers, Isadora de Gore-uh!
Labels: bravio
Toughest scenes with poor Luzma. It's hard to make lemonade out of her situation.
I'm probably in the minority, but I didn't find this episode boring at all. But I love little quiet moments between characters when they are just speaking with each other, instead of arguing or trying to work through a crisis.
So I was touched by Chayo and Al; Luzma and Piedad; and Pablo pacing late at night thinking about how to make Luzma happy. I also enoyed seeing Dan and Cam in a quiet romantic moment talking about their moms and their future kids. And I once again wondered why Vivi can't have both brothers when they greeted her in the morning with breakfast, fresh juice and coffee. Their mama taught them right.
Myo-
It will be interesting to see the duel between the two mothers. However, I don't see a final resolution in sight because I know we're stuck with Hisadora until the end of the tale.
Needless to say, I'm eagerly awaiting your recap, but obviously there's no real rush. As others have pointed out, we've got a three-day weekend when it comes to AB. ¡Feliz año nuevo a todos!
However, Alonssso is doomed. Hissadora will never let up.
So yes, Chayo has the advantage of knowing who Isa and Al are. But Isa is in the dark about the details about Chayo. Since Isa doesn't understand things like motherly devotion, she sees Nurse Rosario's actions as being those of a soft, setimental idiot-- in other words, a human, which we know Isa is not. She doesn't understand, nor try to understand, humans. She just tries to find ways to use them to her advantage.
Confused, missed some epis, thanks!
I liked last night too; I thought some of the side plots were advanced in interesting ways.
Clara
Clara
- A hidden away picture of Don Dan with Rocio and what looks like old letters.
- Cayetonto telling Isa that Rocio distanced them from Don Dan and insisted they move away to the city around the time Pablo was born.
- Cayetonto repeatedly saying that Pablo is not like anyone else in the family with his stubborness and streak of individuality.
Thx for splaining. I didn't know about the pic, or realize Cay had shared so much with Isa.
Have to admit I felt bad for Alonso. Can you imagine waking up like that, in the hospital a paraplegic with the nurse saying she is your mom? Not to mention knowing Isa is out to kill him.
Feliz ano nuevo Vivi y a todos de Caray!
Clara
Amanda would never be able to leave with Natalia because Natalia would never want to leave. And I don't know why Dion would care if Amanda left town, unless he just wants her nearby to continue to torment.
I know that the comandante told Bacera that he couldn't talk to Alonso but did he tell Bacerra that he would bring his papers with him when he interviewed Al?
If looks could kill, Rosario would be dead by now. Isa gave her the worst stink eye I've ever seen. Isa's dead meat if Al can talk.
Couldn't help but shed a tear when Rosario told Al she's his mother. I think the writers intended for the audience to have already guessed this, because the moment still packed a punch for me, especially with her gentle response to why he can't move his body.
Dan looked so good in black in the argument with Dio, coming and going, that I found myself doing the "Quien es mas guapo" babytalk.
Vivi--I'm going to add your Isadora assumptions on Pablo's origins to Operation Shine the Light and other new revelations and relationships.
Everybody, the OSL post will always show up in the recap feed (see sidebar). I know not everyone can access it from there, so thank you, Vivi, for posting the link the other day.
I'm enjoying all the comments. I can't believe Chayo could ever do what Hissa suggested, even though she said it was a promise mother and son made to each other.
I was surprised Hissa suggested such a thing to Chayo. Isn't she afraid Chayo would tell someone about it? Maybe she feels she is a timid soul and not a type to get involved with snitching?
I can't wait for your always wonderful recaps, Jard.
Happy New Year todos!!!
Ann-NYC
I just heard a local commercial on the radio mentioning how different countries celebrate New Years and they mentioned Brazil celebrates it by wearing bright yellow underwear.
Finally up and mainlining tea again...
Camila, we know, is not Don Daniel's daughter--Dan said sobrina, niece, but we get the point. Dan got both.
Loved the whole recap, but really enjoyed your intro and Rosario's new name--Nurse Chihuahua.
Something has bothered me about Dionisio for a long time now. He never seems to run out of money to pay big bucks for bribery and special hit man jobs. Where did he get this endless supply? Just scamming? Issa never seems to run out of money either although burning down her own house didn't seem to net her that much (in Her Humble Opinion). They could have put their funds together and paid off Al's penalty--but that would have left them without the rancho nor money. I guess we'll have to watch them scheme their way to death for the next 70 episodes. Uggh.

Aleta
Yellow underwear means money and with millions of people worried about the fallout from the credit crunch, they are flying off the shelves.
According to tradition, women must wash the underwear in the New Year and then wear them inside out on the first Friday of the year for the effect to work.
At the end Al didn't say I can't be the son of a servant. He said his mother was a servant (not a nurse). I wonder how long it will take him to accept the truth. As you note, he doesn't have much time. Between the cops wanting to throw him in jail, and Isa and Dio out to kill him, he better take advantage of having a supportive mama by his side.
Not included in the recap was Cami getting the info from the hospital about Al's condition and telling Dan (who doesn't get it) that she wants to visit Al because she feels compassion for him. That was right before she went to speak with Luzma and Pablo about their wedding. That conversation didn't happen the evening before. It's a good thing Cami wants to see Al, because he's eager to speak to her. But since the cops won't let anyone in, I'm guessing that Chayo will have to serve as a go-between for them.
Hissadora might also have been doing so, but on a smaller scale.
Something also tells me that he has never previously been so delusional as to think he could take Camila away from anyone like Daniel... or that Augustina will sit still for it.
The idea of Leoncerdo breaking out of the prison is too distasteful to imagine. However, I can see him trying to once Luzma has the baby (if she doesn't have a miscarriage first).
That man who was at the hostel dining and Amanda gave him his food before she sat with Osvaldo overheard them talking and then texted Omar. That's how Omar knew what Amanda and Osvaldo were planning.
Before Cam and Dan went there separate ways in her cabana, Dan said he was going to talk to his father. I hope Francisco spills the beans about Isa and Dion kissing and that Isa contacted him to get in on the inheritance.
Highpoints:
Cam is saved, thanks to Roman.
Bruno bites the dust, literally.
Al gets his proof.
Cam and Dan kissing as they wheel her in the hospital, while Dio looks on.
Refugio smirking at Rocio’s jealousy.
Mariano mans up and admits his feelings to Cam.
Al is alive.
Amanda tells Os about Dio’s threats.
Pablo telling Iago to lay off Nat. Who’s the older brother here?
Isa refused admittance to Al’s room.
Dio threatens Isa with a sharp instrument.
Isa, once again snows Dio I’m King of the World nicio---again.
Cayetano falling for Isa—old fart (see below).
Aaron’s funeral shirt.
Rocio being intelligent for once by saying re: Isa that everyone has a past.
The actor who plays Francisco does an excellent drunk.
Now that Ileana is not trying to break up Pablo and Luz, I’m kind of liking her villainy.
Al’s real mama is taking care of him (see below).
Dan wipes the smile off of Dio’s face (when he mentions his engagement?)—at least for a moment.
Isa’s being thwarted in her plan to off Al.
Ileana and Rudolfo begin their plan.
Pablo and Luz still going ahead with the wedding.
Al’s conscious and completely amnesia free.
Rosario reveals to Al she’s his real mama.
Low Points:
Dan no longer owns La Mequerida.
Agustina getting on my last nerve with her snarky attitude re: Dan.
Cayetano coming to Isa’s rescue (debating also putting this in highpoints because he so derserves what he’s going to get) (see above).
Iago, once again, treats Nat like dirt—and she takes it.
Xi is definitely dead. She really didn’t deserve such a horrific end.
Amanda accepts Os. But her heart just doesn’t seem into it. Poor Os.
Nat searching Dio’s office expecting him to leave incriminating documents for anybody to find.
The local cop has the world’s worst timing.
Al’s a quadrapelgic.
If the fact that Rosario is Al’s mom was supposed to be a big reveal to Viewerville, the writers failed.
Vivi rejects Rafa.
Os and Mandy’s plans to escape have been overheard by Dio’s henchman.
Pablo and Luz cannot have a well deserved fairy tale wedding due to the household being in mourning.
Leo thinks he has claim to his kid (shudder)
Leo has a champion in prison.
Al realizes something is horribly wrong with him.
Why would Aaron leave Vivi’s to give Rafa and her more space? Now that Bruno is dead, Rafa doesn’t need to stay with Vivi anymore.
Why isn’t Al in one of those head brace thingys? And why didn’t his mama call a doctor as soon as he regained consciousness, especially since he was so agitated?
Did not expect Rosario to reveal who she was to Al so soon.
If Al is incapacitated, wouldn’t Isa have the authority to run La Melquerida as his closest relative?
Cathyx: “If looks could kill, Rosario would be dead by now. Isa gave her the worst stink eye I've ever seen.”—so true and you know I love the stink eye.
If Luz has a miscarriage, will she feel guilty about it because she cannot love the baby?
Nanette
Last night I started to feel like Amanda's heart was a bit more into starting something with Osvaldo, when she saw how passionate and committed he is, and willing to experience a new life adventure with her. Anyone else feel that way?
And was Nat affected at all by seeing Rod with Illy? I couldn't be sure. Even if (when) Nat and Yago break up, I don't think Illy will ever have a chance with Yago. And I'm starting to get the feeling that she likes kissing Rod a LOT-- not just for show. I think she's going to be one confused girl by the end of this, and it might just be her and Nat fighting over Rod, not Yago.
I am having the worst time trying to get across what I mean. I don't think I've done it properly.
Viv didn't reject Rafa, she said that she's not sure about how she feels about him. That's why she agreed to be alone for a while to sort out her feelings. And we all know absence grows the heart fonder.
"...besmirching the otherwise fantastical image..."
"As for Gussie, she’s disgusted..."
"The Frankster can only slosh down a bit more of the liquid bitters at that since damn’ed if Gussie doesn’t have a match point there!! "
Then, the "d" paragraph beginning with "the domineering and dastardly Dionisio..."
And the L & P paragraph "a muslin muzzled Pervertido de Leo...Luzma’s lecherous Unce Leo. Luzma, Piedad and Pablo ..."
Love the "Probable escape alert!!" Most likely, I would say.
"...with Issa loose and eager to either kill or lenguanize him, we’ve got some real nail-bitin’ times ahead.."
"might-as-well-be-limbless-de-Lonso...the eventually loquacious Lonnie. "
"Vernacular translation: What a major cluster-f@#k!!" Well said, amiga
"we shall not forget that old Roc knows a thing or two about that of which she doth gritch."
"Hopefully somebody will realize what a nifty hunk of hombre he really is" This was one awkward situation, made my skin crawl a tad bit.
Toungeless ElCerdo and legless ALonso: more parallels. Both could do major damage to Hissadora.
"Dio advises Hissadora that she’s bitten off a bit more than she can chew in order to eschew and dodge detection by asking that nurse to off the newly limp-limbed Lon." Jardinera, I am in awe. These things must just roll off your brain.
Thanks for the Iago, Illy, Nati discussion. totally on point. I missed a lot of the verbiage, but got the gist. Your summary was perfect.
"This faction of Viewerville agrees with that if nothing else" Why is she even having this baby? I am so hoping for a miscarriage. Is this bad of me? Piedad has a beautiful long, thick braid.
"...not only muzzled but puzzled..."
I'll stop here, but brava! amiga. You did it again as usual.
At the breakfast table, Vivi expressed her desire for them BOTH to stay. She wants things to stay the same. When she spoke to Camila, she also seemed confused about what she feels for both of them. I don't think she would be pleased to have Rafa leave and Aaron stay, any more than she was pleased with the idea of Aaron leaving and Rafa staying.
I must have asked this before, but don't the Albarrans know about Ileana's family's financial situation? Shouldn't they be worried about her wanting to marry into the family por interes?
Even though she seemed to like kissing Rodo, I don't think he's a serious contender for her heart. She's too much into revenge and pulling Iago and Nat apart. She doesn't really care if Natalia gets back with him or not. She's just gaming him.
-------------------
Has Daniel actually legally accepted possession of La Malquerida? Because if he hasn't, wouldn't Camila still be the administrator and any agreement to hand over possession would have to be signed by her (which she didn't b/c she was kidnapped)?
And since she's not the legal owner of MQ she couldn't hand over possession, right? That was the whole point of putting out a hit on Daniel in Chile, so that MQ could then pass to Camila.
Can Dan sign over ownership of something that he hasn't legally claimed yet?
Vivi, you point to the one thing left in developed nations that is evidence of machismo: the ability to make mucho dinero. Humans no longer have to hunt mammoth, nobody in his right mind wants to go to war, so there are only a few acceptable ways to express manhood. Dan has two of those already that Camila knows well; the third is providing for her.
One question: you refer to Camila as Ximena's "kid sis". Unless I'm reading your words incorrectly or missed something, isn't Camila the older of the girls? Agustina was married first to Camila's father, widowed, then she married Frank, who knew Camila as a child. Again, I could have it wrong, given the many twists and turns (that I love) in this novela.
Vivi -- yes, I agree that Camila could have been irritated by Daniel's macho need to be the breadwinner. But like Camila, I thought he was at his best at that moment -- handsome, gallant and not a leech, like a certain patient being cared for by his real mom now. Camila has never been taken care of by any man except her uncle, so the change would be nice. I confess to thinking that I underestimated CDF at the start. He's grown into quite a galan, in part because his character tries to take good care of those around him and the actor is very credible in those kinds of scenes. And, let's not forget his good looks!
Traveling Lady- Yes. Cami was older than Xi.
About the weather in the area, I just had a look at a map and realized that Aculco is really close to where I lived in Mexico. It’s in a neighboring state, not the one that I lived in, so I didn’t realize it right away. Actually, the first few weeks I watched AB, I thought it was set in Zacatecas and kept wondering why the countryside sure didn’t look like anything like Zacatecas, but that’s another story. *eye roll*
This area is tropical, semi-arid highlands. I loved the climate there and it is not wet or humid at all. At about 5,000 – 7,000 feet of elevation, there is no such thing as humidity. ‘Rainy season’ only means it is rainier than the dry season, not that it is like Seattle (where I have also lived). So in the dry season it might rain once or twice a month, if that, and in the ‘wet’ season it might rain two or three times a week, usually just for a short time in the afternoon, evening or at night, like they showed in this episode. It’s also a lot cloudier.
It’s a rich agricultural area. In general, they have to irrigate for crops but they can graze with less water, so cattle ranching has always been big around there. It is the only area of Mexico (I think) where grapes are grown and wine is produced, and that takes a sunny, dry climate – think Italy, Spain, Greece, and the south of France. (This part of Mexico is further south, but higher elevation, so there are other differences.)
I would also say that, depending on the year, the ‘wet’ season might only be mid June to mid September. Temps are mild, for Mexico, and really drop at night, again due to the elevation. The warmest daytime highs are in the 90s and mostly in the high 70s or 80s. The coolest time of year is December and January and there can be frosts and maybe highs only in the high 50s, but it can also be in the upper 70s and you only need a light sweater in the evening. So, in AB they are dressing as people do in that climate, with sundresses in the daytime and leather jackets in the evening and everything in between. From the amount of greenery in the scenes at the ranches, I’d say it was filmed in the ‘wet’ season. Otherwise it would all be crispy brown.
I don't recall Camila ever talking about her father, so that is what sounds right to me.
BTW, beware of spoilers on IMDB.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!!!
Ann-NYC
Carolina- Thanks for the info about the area. I always wonder but never bother to look it up. Except that the area just inland of Ensenada in Baja is also big in winerys. Sadly, we can only bring one bottle back at a time through a 2 hour border wait or I'd consider going down.
Kelly
It does seem that the writers are planning on awful tio to get loose. As Traveling Lady noted its hard to make Luzma's situation positive.
I really hope Dio doesn't have Os killed.
Aleta

"These bad guys just can't cut a break! Of all the nurses in all the hospitals in all of Mexico..."
Makes me wonder where she was when Alonso had his heart attack and the doctor was explaining its cause to everyone in the waiting room.
I think Amanda is starting to warm up to Becerra. Maybe it's just me, but he seems to be taking Caray's advice and jazzing his style appeal - I think he updated his haircut.
On Nat, I believe she was bothered by seeing Bratgirl kiss Rodolfo. She played it off with Yago as just surprise, but I think it threw her. I also hope she gets to see Rodolfo taking Bratgirl to the movies, etc. and openly introducing her to his friends so she will get sick of Yago's shoddy treatment.
Anyway, thanks very very much for the excellent recap and the embedded vocab.
Jard: I think Ileana has thought bubbled how she's out to get revenge on Iago because he wouldn't back her up re: Luz and her uncle.
I think the reason Francisco is so torn up about Xi is because she was the only one who paid any sort of attention to him. She was his only "ally".
I think Nat is about to discover she cares more for Rudolf than she ever knew.
I sure would hate to see Os get targeted by Dio and his henchmen, but aren't the Scoobie Brothers moving out of Vivi's cool guys' crash pad and into Amanda's? They ought to be able to help keep him safe, and Amanda, too, for that matter.
With all the questions swirling around about the ownership and management of the MalQ, I can see why the staff might be getting nervous about their future paychecks. I would be, too.
It's a very interesting question about whether that transfer was legal. It seems there are a number of routes for Dan-n-Cam to get the ranch back. The transfer could be illegal either because Dan wasn't authorized to make it or for some other reason. Al could wake up and cooperate and sign it back over to them. And I am still having trouble understanding why couldn't it be returned as any victim's property would be after a crime?
I know it was explained that since Dan didn't notify the police of the kidnapping before the transfer, he can't claim it was extortion, but that doesn't seem fair to me. In a kidnapping situation, it isn't always possible to notify police, kidnappers nearly always are going to threaten terrible things if the police are contacted, and people would always be frantic to get their loved ones back asap. As long as you can prove it was kidnapping after the fact, which our heroes should be able to do, why would the criminals get to keep the profits? That would seem to be a very pro-criminal and anti-victim law. Al could go to jail for kidnapping but still keep the MalQ? Help me out, here. How does that make any sense?
=================
BTW has somebody considered and mentioned Farco may have been "offed" by either Dio or Trench early on? Sorry if I missed that.....
Ximeana was no route to Dan's dinero because he was not obliged to share it with her. If that worthless thief had come to live at La Malquerida and behaved like a decent human being she would have gotten an allowance and an inheritance similar to her mother's. Instead she stayed away with an attitude.
I agree that her punishment was excessive, but may have been the only way to stop her aiding and abetting of Hissadora's crimes.
FX has been clutching at straws for some time now, ever since the cobrar was revealed to be fake and certainly since the real Dan stepped forward. Working with Xi, he may have been able to weasel something out of Dan, or at least that's what I thought he had in mind. With her gone and Dan's attitude towards him made clear, he has no shot at any money and, as I said above, it's high time for him to go.
He also knows some things that are going to be important to the Scoobies.
Yola
Yola, I think you are exactly right, it's the who knows TN laws that are the problem!
=/ ; ? ))
FX needs to tell Aggie about Dio and Isa and that Xi knew too. Maybe then she'll believe it.
Thanks for all of the updates and comments! I missed all of the episodes last week, so I appreciate the recaps!
Hasta martes!
I couldn't help but wonder how Al will now bite his nails.
Everyone be safe. Here I go nagging. Don't drink and drive and really do your defensive driving if you are the DD.
Wish AB was going to be on tonight.
-"every dog (and/or dawg)"
and
-"might-as-well-be-limbless-de-lonso" LOL Sooooo delightfully bad!
Whoever coined the phrase "if looks could kill" must have seen the glare that Hiss gave Chayo. Absolutely chilling!
As I'm dreading going to the store, I will save reading the comments til I return. That will be my reward for gutting it up on a slushy day.
The low point of this episode was where Isadora gave Rosario the stink eye. I don't know how Daniel will reclaim MQ. Since Iliana is no longer trying to break up Pablo and Luzma, I'm beginning to enjoy her prescence on the show, but she still gets on my nerves.
I don't know why Farcas is on leave, but we'll find out later on I'm sure. Now that Bruno's dead, he'll no longer have to bother Viviana.
By the way, did anyone notice that Rosario is played by the same actress that played Asuncion in Mi Pecado? It is Tina Romero.
Who's New Year's program do you watch? I tune in to Univision because of the better music (when they have some).
Not a big fan of the New Years celebrations, although it was funny when Poor Taylor Swift had to share a stage with Joe Jonas right after he dumped her.
I still have the last night of one of the conventions recorded that I haven't watched in full. Even though we know who won, I still enjoy hearing the speeches. I'll just pretend it's a NYE party.
Jardinera - what spelling games do you do on the internet? That sounds like fun.
i'll probably fall asleep at 9:00pm like always. Even when I try to stay up later, I can't.
And yes, I'm in Florida, in Merritt Island near the Kennedy Space Center.
Aleta
I used to be a New Year's Eve person but I'm not anymore. I don't like the noise and the crowds. I was in bed at midnight but I was awake.
And now I have to go back to work tomorrow. Back to getting up at 4:15 AM and having to watch AB the next day because 10:00 is just too late for me. Last week I stayed up to watch it. No more.
¡Prospero Año Nuevo a todos!
UA- PERFECT timing with your New Year's wish! Thank you, and may I wish everyone health, happiness and snark in 2013!
Who was that (guy?) in the blue suit on Uni last night?
Good for you teaching that Jazzercize, cathyx! You can't flake out and not show up. I exercise in my basement while watching my TNs. The more I watch, the fitter I get! I guess that's why 4 out of 5 doctors recommend tuning in to Univision.
I didn't realize we had so many early risers here. 4:15am? Yikes! Uhm...I went to bed at 4:14 last night. But that's just because I got home at 3:30. Since I live 4 blocks away from work, I can stay up late, and still wake up early enough to get online, chat at Caray, and still get to work before all of my coworkers who live in the burbs. I get home way before they do too. Urban living! :)
City life is pretty fun. Not that Salt Lake has much of one. My son lives right in downtown Kansas City and there is something fun to do every night, from free concerts in the park (including Neon Trees)to a trolley pub crawl to various hubs of activities within blocks of each other to celebrating NYE in an old airplane hangar, they never run out of new places to go.
Any good resolutions, amigos?
Sue, I'm with you on starting earlier and getting off earlier. I work some long days, and then have an extra weekday off which I love.
Rosemary, I love the Neon Trees. We have a Jazzercise song by them.
I like to work early and end early too. But because we have an early schedule at my home, we eat dinner early too. So if we get invited to friends or family for dinner, it's usually really late for us. Then I hate going to bed on a full stomach.
Thanks for another delightful recap Jardinera. I always get such a kick out of your wicked and often wacky humor. I'm still around watching and reading but here lately I've fallen behind from time to time but always manage to catch up.
Love your newest photo Vivi.
Vivi, it's been some time since we've spotted the Sacred Pear Robe, but have you noticed that Camila is wearing the same flowered robe that you featured her wearing in your Pear Robe Project? Is this now the new iconic robe?
Carlos
Aleta, as follow-up to Jardinera's always clever writing, I also chuckled over your "thinking about things ... like poor Alonso ... he won't be able to chew his nails now!" And, glad Bunny is OK!
I couldn't really get a take on whether Nat was affected by Rodolfo and Brat Girl. She seemed surprised but didn't really seem jealous or upset. I really want her to dump Yucko. I want it pretty bad.
I agree, cathyx, the Vivi/Aaron/Rafael breakfast scene was awkward. I actually thought that Aaron seemed a little pissy about Vivi not falling into line with the Rafael and Vivi loveshack idea.
Jardinera, I'm with you about Rosario running her hands all over Al-Limbless. Geez, the guy just woke up, is realizing he's paralyzed, and some stranger is definitely invading his space. I maybe can understand Chayo's emotions, but it seems a little clueless on her part.
Vivi, thanks for mentioning where I had seem Camila's robe before! I knew it was familiar despite not having pears on it. So it was MEPS! And on SN no less! Thanks!
