Amores Verdaderos #23 Mon 12/10/12 Everyone’s Busy Tonight: Sweet Kisses, Fake Kisses, Wild Kisses and Huge Fights

* From yesterday: while Arriaga and Christina are having una noche MUY CALIENTE, Victoria is working on The Painting, aka her very own Boris Vallejo ripoff.

* The exhausted couple is resting in bed, whispering sweet things to each other: I love you, I love you too, you’re the love of my life. Christina is worried for her husband since he has a very dangerous job and she would die if anything happened to him. And she would also die of jealousy if he was with another woman. *She really knows how to ruin the moment, doesn’t she.* Angel promises her that will never happen. Never, ever. *Famous last words, eh?*

* It seems Victoria finished the painting and she must be still under the influence of the artistic experience because she can’t thinking about José Ángel’s eyes: his gaze is so intense… wild… gentle… *Viewerville: not that we don’t agree with you, Vicky, but you’re taking the word “fangirling” to a whole new level*

* Houston, we have a problem: Nelson is in Kendra’s flat trying to do the usual stuff that they do every time they meet, but tonight his little Casanova isn’t in the mood. Someone must be ridden with guilt, it seems. He’s devastated since it has never happened to him before and no matter how matter how much Barbie tries to convince him to spend the night in her flat, he’s determined to go home. Kendra is upset at the new turn of events.

* Victoria calls Arriaga and of course it’s Christina who picks up the phone. She doesn’t understand why the boss calls her husband on his free night off. Viewerville doesn’t get it either because all she wants to tell him that he can spend the night with his family and they will meet next day. And he doesn’t need to apologize for Chrissie’s comment, it was understandable, especially since she only sees him once a week. Good night, José Ángel. After they put down the phone, the surprised Angel sits down on the bed: she called me José Ángel? She never does that! It’s always Arriaga: Arriaga do this, Arriaga do that, Arriaga go up, Arriaga go down, go left, go right. José Ángel… He starts laughing, and YES, now we have a proof that Yanez’s teeth shine in the dark. At the Balvanera’s Vicky is doing a figurative headdesk: oh no, she shouldn’t have called him, it was a stupid thing to do, and now she hopes she didn’t cause him another trouble with his wife.

*Well, Vicky… you did. Christina has a jealous outburst, she’s sure la señora only called him to ruin their evening. José Ángel tries cutting the conversation short by checking Liliana but Dios mío, her bedroom and bathroom are empty. This is the moment when the hell breaks loose because Arriaga is certain that the thugs who’d kidnapped Nikki came for his daughter and took her out of revenge. Christina reminds him of that working for that old rich woman is a dangerous business. She told him so! And this is the very moment when Liliana enters the room, it turns out she was just jogging around the block. José Ángel first hugs the very surpsised girl tightly, and then he shouts her head off: it was a dangerous thing to do, we aren’t in Santa Rita anymore, dammit!

* Nikki dreams about her rescue and she revives the moment when she thought Francisco was killed. She wakes up and smiles: “Guzmáncito, you risked your life for me!” Her smile is adorable, you have to give her that. In the meantime the aforementioned bodyguard is taking a stroll in the garden (for God’s sake, guys, it must be midnight!) and he’s thinking about Nikki who called him a superhero. He also flashes a wide smile.

* Adriana sorts old (ridiculously badly photoshopped) photos of her family. She’s looking forward to meet with her niece and her sister, but she decides not to tell Victoria that her daughter is alive because she doesn’t want to ruin the good relationship she has with their father. Now she’s looking at her parents’ wedding portrait (oh God, that pretty photo of El Rochon must’ve been taken in the 19th century) and she’s wondering why her mother married Aníbal, the man who destroyed Adriana’s whole life. She hates him, she hates him, she hates him! She tears the photo into half.

* José Ángel tells Liliana how worried he was for her, the thought of her being in the hands of those ruthless gangsters was unbearable. Please promise the next time she leaves the house she’ll call her mother. Okay dad, but I she always calls her. The do it more! All right, dad. Liliana goes back to her bedroom and her parents start to talk again how dangerous Arriaga’s job is. José Ángel tells Christina that she doesn’t need to worry because Guzmán, Zambrano and Salsero have his back. Francisco is a great and brave guy who saved his ass that night.

* In the meantime Victoria channels her inner Stephenie Meyer Jr. while she’s working on her fanfiction, I mean, book.

* At Kendra’s the other bickering old couple, aka Salsero and Barbie have a fight over their failed kidnapping plan. Viewerville laughs at the losers who were fooled by their accomplice and now all they have is a few dozen dollars. And to top it all, Dances with Sunglasses is still muy jealous at Kendra and she’s still a crazy she wolf so now Viewerville is graced with another violent but somehow hot sex scene.

* The prodigal son is at home in his bedroom, telling Victoria that he knows he made some mistakes and now he wants to start everything again.

* Nikki finds Frankie by the swimming pool where she pulls her most normal attitude and thanks him for saving her life. At first he thinks this is one of her mean jokes but she goes on and tells him when she was kidnapped she was thinking about him all the time. Well, this melts Guzmáncito’s heart and he admits he was thinking about her, too. Nikki says in those moments she felt he was really close… and now she wants him to feel the same, to feel her closeness. They draw closer and closer to each other, enchanted by each other’s company… and yep, they have their first kiss.

* At first Victoria isn’t impressed by Nelson’s suddenly awoken tenderness towards her, but he tells her that the mortal danger she and Nikki were exposed to made him realize how brave she is and how much he loves her. He doesn’t know what he would do if he lost Vic and Nikki. Victoria is convinced, and at last Nelson is eager to fulfill his duty in the bedroom.

*Guzmán jumps up and apologizes for his inappropriate behavior. *Viewerville: come on boy, you’re in the Hacienda Balvanera where Angel and Vic (who are brother-in-law and sister-in-law, by the way) have hots for each other, Salsero lets his ex-hooker girlfriend to sleep with his boss to get rich, Tomasina fantasizes about Arriaga, Polita and Jean Marie fantasize about you, and don’t forget the grandpa who’s been sleeping with your mother for twenty years. A board saying “House of Inappropriateness” should’ve been hung over the entrance door years ago.* He says it was wrong and he shouldn’t get involved with the people he works for. And of course he only saved her because it was his job, it wasn’t personal. Okay, we get that he just wants to protect his heart and your job, but Nikki, who has just bared her soul to him is really hurt and tells him she found his kiss disgusting. Frankie pulls her closer: so you felt disgusted? Yes, just as she imagined. Then it won’t happen again, says the man. Nikki runs back to her room.

 * Before going back to bed, Liliana asks José Ángel to say hello to Francisco. Well, daddy doesn’t really like this infatuation towards Blondie and tells Christina that Lili is too young for falling in love. She should concentrate on her studies instead of a boyfriend. And somehow this conversation turns into another fight over Victoria… again. Because José Ángel’s always criticizing Christina *Viewerville and Arriaga: WTF?*, as if Liliana’s infatuation was her fault, but he never stands up against that crone! Yes, that old woman, that Victoria Balvanera! José Ángel looks more like a lap-dog since he met her than that real man she fell in love with! Arriaga doesn’t want to fight so he decides to leave the flat, which makes Christina even more angrier: so now you’re running back to her, aren’t you?!

* Frankie realizes that rejecting Nikki was the worst insult he could give her… But he didn’t have a choice, he had to end it for good. While he’s sitting in the patio and looking very sad (and cuddly, if I may add), Oookay is crying in her room and she is eating a whole box of icecream.

* At the Balvaneras’ the depressed aikido master meets Tomasina who’s very surprised to see him there. Wasn’t he supposed to spend the night with his family? No, he just went to say hello to Christina and Liliana. Tomasina finds his work ethic fantastic: José Ángel is a responsible man who takes his job very seriously. And is Ms. Victoria all right? Yes, she’s is in the bedroom.

* Christina wakes up from a nightmare: oh heaven, is José Ángel is with HER? What if she’s just imagining things that don’t exist?

* Arriaga is about to knock on Victoria’s door when he hears her satisfied voice: oh mi amor, it was so good to be with you again! He was so cold towards her in the last weeks, she even thought he was interested in another woman. Angel looks like he has a very hard time with biting his tongue. Nelson tells wifey he would never ever betray her. Angel looks like he’s about to beat his own head into the wall. Or Nelson’s. Great, says Victoria, because she isn’t that kind of woman who would forgive infidelity. Her last words cheer José Ángel up and he victoriously boxes into the air. But Jesus, his phone starts to ring which drives Victoria out of the room. In the hallway he find Arriaga who tries act casual. What are you doing here, Arriaga?! Nada, nada, he was just checking that everything was order. Oh, that deep bedroom voice. He’s embarrassed, she’s puzzled, and they again stand too close to each other. She goes back to Nelson where she starts gushing about how much this night meant to her. It was great to be together again because most of the time he just gets in bed without looking at her and he falls asleep instantly. But Nelson stopped listening to her after the second word and now he’s sleeping like a baby. Victoria looks at her wonderful husband and she states very dryly and sardonically that she knew so much happiness couldn’t be true.

Did anyone sleep that night? Aside from Nelson, of course.

Aribeth, you are so right, noone slept. Can't wait for your always marvelous recap.

Very astute observation Aribeth. It was indeed a sleepless night for most of the AV denizens.

One of many good moments: JA rejoicing overhearing Vikki tell odious Nelson she would not forgive infidelity. What would TNs be without the proverbial eavesdropping? Inappropriate yes, but a mainstay.

Aribeth, can't wait to see what you do with this. Know it will be wonderful.

Diana

So Nelson has a bit of heart after all. Shocker.

I was busy last night, so I am looking forward to reading your recap, Aribeth.

Diana (and anyone else interested): here's the link to the Charro Days festival. It has been held for many years in the sister cities of Brownsville, Texas, and Matamoros, Mexico. It celebrates the friendship and tejano history of these two cities. Because of all the violence around Tamaulipas, the two cities combined their celebrations and parades and held everything in Brownsville. http://www.charrodaysfiesta.com

Every year, along with the celebration, both Brownsville and Matamoros select a special VIP to participate at the special 'hands across the bridge' event to show their friendship with a handshake. For Brownsville, they call the VIP, "Mr. Amigo". I have no idea what criteria they use for selection. Last year, Matamoros selected Jorge Aravena as their VIP representative. I have no idea who they will select this year. http://mramigo.com

I found it very amusing that Nelson couldn't get it up for Kendra, his bit of "excitement" on the side, but even though he hadn't been "intimate" with nor interested in his wife in a long time, he was able (and willing) to come home and spend quality romance time and even make love to her. Is there a message in there somewhere? Like did he momentarily figure out that there was more to a satisfying sex life than the "excitement" aspect?

Whatever he figured out, I suspect his memory is very short.......

Thanks for the Charro days info Jody. Brownsville is only about 65 miles from me, but I didn't really know about that festival. However, I don't like crowds so I don't dare brave the festival in person. Brownsville also has a Latin Jazz festival every October and I'm sure it's awesome too, but even though I love the music I haven't been brave enough to attend.

Jody - isn't Eduardo Yañez who they selected for this year?

Eduardo Yanez Chosen as Mr. Amigo for Charro Days

Audrey - I know I'm nuts to have a smidge of sympathy for Nelson, but he really didn't want to go to Kendra's. She browbeat him. Plus, she's pretty mechanical in the sack. Looks like Nelson needed tenderness. But you're right, this likely will be short-lived.

Audrey and Neice in MD- I think Nelson was riddled with guilt for leaving Nikki and Vikki after that traumatic experience and so couldn't "get it up" with Kendra. I think maybe he does have some romance left for Vikki, but we'll have to see. He sure acted like it last night.

Thanks Jody!! I appreciate the information and the link - sigh. Any dreamy images of EY are great. Apreciate it.

Diana

Hola, recap is up! Sorry for being late (again), I had an exam.

It was an interesting episode and I loved the acting, everyone did a good job.

Jody: thanks for the information about the Charro festival! So this is the Mr. Amigo title EY was given a few days ago.

And I heard Erika and Eduardo will make a twitcam this week. I'm looking forward to the videos.

OT:
Dios mío y todos los santos, I'm listening to the Hobbit's soundtrack. The geek in me is dying of joy.

Aribeth: This sparked, sparkled and shimmered. "the other bickering old couple", "under the influence of the artistic experience" and (ridiculously badly photoshopped) photos"(ITA, awful) were among my favorites. You really conveyed all the emotions last night perfectly.

Both Vikki and Jose were with their respective spouses for a few glorious moments, only to end in disappointment and disillusion (Vikki) and tears and angry recriminations (Jose)...Meanwhile, Kendra and rheumy can't do the deed so their night was a total loss all together (I say with great satisfaction)...

I can't blame Guzman for breaking Nikki's heart (for the right reasons), but did feel badly because after her most recent ordeal, rejection is the very last thing Nikki needed. Naturally, she turned to food - eating her heart out in order to try and heal it.

Aribeth, thanks again. Loving the show almost as much as the recaps.

Diana

Aribeth marvelous recap. I laughed when Nelson could "perform" with KendHO lol. Too funny. Now how long will he be "faithful" to his wife, I wonder.

Poor Chrissie, I do feel bad for her, but that being said, you always get a better reaction with honey, instead of vinegar. She should have avoided the arguemnt and just be loving and it would have avoided that mess.

And what is this about "old woman" Vikki is far from an old woman. Chrissie needs glasses, jus'sayin', lol.

Poor Nikki, she actually bared her soul to Guzman, but being the professional that he is, I can see his point of view, but still, he should have explained himself better, and besides he does have feelings for her. The poor girl thinks now, he has no feelings at all. Sad.

I fear Lili's heart is going to be broken by Guzmancito. I just hope they come up with a nice guy for her.

Oops typo I meant couldn't not could for Nelson, lol.

Good luck on that exam, Aribeth. Thanks for this excellent recap even with having that to contend with.

Stalking? Lurking? Obsessing?... Rounding! Yeah... that's the ticket... rounding.

Points to Nelson. Do we set up a support group for him now? Nah...I didn't think so.

Could Nikki get anymore precious? Accusing Frankie of frikiendo... now how cute was that?

Carlos

Super Summary, Aribeth,

I'm running out now on some important errands, but I wanted to tell you how much I liked your latest posting.

Yes, ITA, Chrissie does indeed know how to ruin a moment.

And so does Victoria - she ruined the evening for Chrissie giving more credence to her feelings of jealousy. I was very annoyed with Victoria for making that phone call. It was very intrusive
into JA's private life.

Thanks again; terrific!

Thanks for the comments! :)

As for the old woman: I think the scriptwriter just used the original script in which Victoria is at least 10 years older than Arriaga. Maybe 15. The only reason the age of the characters was changed is that Nicandro and Eduardo wanted to work together (and I can imagine EY begging for a meaty role) again and they didn't find an actress who was older than him but young enough to play Victoria. So the producer decided to put them into the same age group.

Floridia: I agree completely, Vic shouldn't have called him. She also realized that she was wrong but it was already late.

What a fun recap Aribeth. Thank you.

Not much more to say. I was pleasantly surprised that Nelson came home and put some gas in Vicky's empty love tank. Not quite full, but better than nothing. And Cris really did ruin her own night with her outburst. Yes, Vicky shouldn't have called, but Cris should have responded by giving JA some more reasons to NEVER look at another woman-- use his entire free night that Vicky just gave him to continue that hot lovin'. He wouldn't have wanted to go to work in the morning!

I agree that Guzman should have explained himself to Nicki better so that it didn't seem like such a harsh rejection.

Aribeth - Terrific. My favorites:

"YES, now we have a proof that Yanez’s teeth shine in the dark."

"A board saying 'House of Inappropriateness' should’ve been hung over the entrance door years ago."

Vickie was totally out of line to call in the middle of the night and JA was totally out of line to be outside her bedroom door. For me, the two now have knowingly crossed over into the threshold of couplehood, sex or not.

Don't blame Crissie a bit for getting pithed. Plus a spouse has a right to get into a stupid spat. JA should've walked around the block to clear his head and come back.

There's really nothing Crissie can do. Vickie is under JA's skin and no talking is going to get her out. Would love to see Anibel and Crissie become friends. She needs an older, wiser sage. He could give her business advice on pushing low-cal tamales.

I've heard "vieja" used as an insult in other TNs when the woman isn't particularly old. But Crissie is younger than Vickie and JA. He robbed the cradle a bit – funny he doesn’t want to see that happen with Lili and Guzmancito.

Thanks for the great recap Aribeth. Loved it.

As for the "old woman" yah-yah, let's get that out of the way right now. Eduardo Yanez was born in 1960. Erika Buenfil was born in 1964. He's 52, and she just celebrated her 48th birthday. "Old" would be Anibal or Paula or Candelaria.

I'm so sick of Nelson I could lose my lunch. And BTW, what's up with Guierllmo Capetillo's red eyes? Allergies, marijuana, hangover?

The only thing that could make me sicker is the S&M routine of Kendra-Ho and Salsero.

Christina's jealousy is enough to drive anyone either insane or into the arms of another lover. She has no life beyond cooking tamales, and she never has. I suspect she never will.

As for Charro Days, I loved them when I lived in Brownsville as a kid, but I won't tell you how long ago that was because after all, I'm an "old woman." Snark, snark,

I love this novela and the comments on this blog.

Sometimes "vieja" doesn't necessarily mean "old." Sometimes it's used to mean "that woman" in a negative way. It may also be used as slang to refer to one's wife or woman.

Aribeth, loved your recap. So funny! Loved the paragraph leading up to "...A board saying 'House of Inappropriateness' should’ve been hung over the entrance door years ago.* A classic! So right, and I might add: about to get more inappropriate.

That is exactly what I thought when I saw Adrianna’s photos, “ridiculously photoshopped”.

I don't get where the story line is going, are they going to keep teasing the characters forcing them to have consolation sex? Or have Angel and Vicki become adulterers? Not seeing this; especially when it is evident that Angel and Christina still have a viable marriage and Christina and Vicki are sisters.

Aribeth - Thank you for the recap! I was making cookies this a.m. while watching, and I thought Nelson had done the deed with Kendra.

Lots of uncomfortable moments during this episode, like JA outside Viki & Nelson's bedroom, JA & Cristina fighting, DWG roughing up Kendra, etc.

Maybe they are both going to realize that they belong with their respective spouses in the end. None of the opening credits show Vic and JA actually kissing (as opposed to Guzman and Nik) or close to making love. Everything they are shown doing is what they've already done up to now: JA being protective and comforting, a (strong) shoulder to lean on and someone to confide in. Could be that once they find out the women are sisters, he will become an awesome brother-in-law! He did tell Chris he would never be unfaithful - JAMAS! Unless he's not a man of his word, will they divorce? will she die? NO? Just a thought.

Anon at 6:25-my thoughts exactly-you never actually see them kiss...if they have an affair it violates lots of telenovela rules; puzzling.

Aribeth, fantastic recap! Loved the screen cap choices too! Excellent! Loved the snark.

I thought Vicki was inappropriate in calling Big Angel that night, but still, Chris shouldn't have flown off the handle. It's not Big Angel's fault that Vicki called, and two wrongs don't make a right. A little annoyance over being interrupted would be one thing, but this was a full-out screech-fest. By the avances yesterday I had assumed that her jealousy fit would have been prompted by something Big Angel did, but it wasn't him at all. I think she went overboard. Bad, bad idea. He seemed very happy after their noche de amor. Why ruin that?

Guzmancito really had no other option but to tell Nicki that they couldn't do what they were doing. But agreed, he was really brusque about it. But he had to do it.

Looking forward to tonight's episode!

I don't forsee an illicit affair between Vicki and Big Angel. No spoilers (I am not watching "ahead" on this one, so I don't know anything) but the synopsis given for this novela, which was posted here on Caray, didn't give me that impression. I could be wrong, you know how those synopsis (synopsi? synoposeses? LOL) are! But I hope not. They'd better not! I am watching with the assumption that it won't happen like that.

I thought it was pretty cool having a product placement for Bailey's LOL!

Thanks for the recap Aribeth.

Thanks for the comments!

I love that the show provokes so many insightful thoughts. This is why Caray is the best place to follow a telenovela.
