Amores Verdaderos #58 Wed 1/30/13 WHAT DID YOU DO WITH LUCÍA?

For the Short Memory Crowd:
At Meta Imagen, Beatriz declines Cristina's invitation to move back in.  Beatriz thinks she's better off with her father for now.  Gilda/Hilda/Whatever watches balefully.  At the mansion, the family breakfasts and Nikki needles Liliana.  And then -- behold the Avenging Angel Adriana!

New stuff:
Desperate and furious, Adriana storms the Balvanera stronghold and faces down her father in the dining room as family and servants watch open-mouthed:
¿Qué hiciste con mi hija Lucía?
(What did you do with my daughter Lucía?)

The plant Lili is holding -- Estrellita, the little star -- falls from her hands. The pot shatters on the floor.  Everyone seems stunned.

That old reprobate Aníbal tries to deflect his daughter's question:  "Everyone knows what happened to that child," he says.   "Liar!" cries Adriana.  She runs at him, grabbing him by the lapels and pushing and striking out at him.

Lili and Arriaga crouch down and try to sweep up the dirt and shards of pottery.

Now Tomasina shepherds Polita out.  Smarmy bastard Nelson puts an arm around Nikki, as if to shield her.

¡Mientes! cries Adriana again. Mi hija nació viva y tú me la arrebataste!
(You're lying!  My daughter was born alive and you snatched her away from me!)

At one point Adriana pauses and looks directly at Liliana.

Now Lili and Arriaga slip away.

"Where is she?" continues Adriana.  "Who did you give her to?  Who was the doctor?"  She went to the Clinic at Santa Rita, she says, and they couldn't tell her anything.

Polita, banished from the main stage, finds Guzmán in the kitchen and tries, unsuccessfully, to engage him in the dining room drama.

The storm rages on.
Aníbal says he knows nothing of the doctor.  He never saw him after the delivery  But this response only makes Adriana more furious.  She pushes some dishes onto the floor. (Although half-heartedly.  Violence doesn't come naturally to her.)

Nikki urges Aníbal to speak up but Nelson tells her not to interfere and leads her out of the room.

¡Cobarde! cries Adriana.
Yo hice lo que tenía que hacer, answers Aníbal, angrily.
(I did what I had to do.)

In the Balvanera kitchen, Polita grills Guzmán.  Lightly.  Why did he spend the night in Nikki's room?  He was just doing his job, he tells her.  She rewards his answer with a cookie.  [Is she training Guzmán?]  Lili, still holding the ruined flowers, watches these two miserably.  And José Ángel watches her watching.  "Let's go to the greenhouse and fix Estrellita," he says.

Nikki walks down the front steps with her father.  What if what her aunt is saying is true? she asks him.  Smarmy Nelson seizes another bonding moment and blathers that moments of tragedy make you value what you have -- a stable home, two parents who love you ... (Take that, Victoria, he thinks.)

Back in the dining room, Victoria tries to get at the truth.  She recalls Aníbal saying that Adriana wasn't well after the delivery.  Adriana confirms she was mad with sorrow when she was told her daughter was stillborn; she didn't leave her room all that day.  When she finally had the strength to ask, they told her the baby had been buried.

They didn't let her see her or touch her:
Yo no la volví a ver, ni siquiera le pude dar un beso de despedida.  Mi Lucía.  Mi Lucía.
(I never saw her again, not even to give her a farewell kiss.  My Lucía.  My Lucía.)

But now Adriana demands an explanation.  She falls to her knees:  "I know she didn't die.  I know my daughter is alive."

Aníbal turns away, removes his silly blue glasses, then turns his naked face to her:  "We need to talk.  Alone.  Come to the library."

In the greenhouse, Lili repots Estrellita and she and her father reflect on Adriana's suffering.  Then Arriaga asks her gently if she is sweet on Guzmán -- it's just that he doesn't want her to suffer.  She's already suffering, she tells him.

In the library (where, if the books are real, the pages are likely uncut),
Aníbal has retreated behind his blue glasses and now resumes his prosecutorial stance:  Who put these ideas in Adriana's head?  Who?  Una vidente (fortune teller), answers Adriana, still unwilling to betray her padrino, Antonio.  Aníbal is scornful -- all this drama because of nonsense spouted by some charlatan?  But Adriana stands her ground:  Aníbal hated her when she got pregnant, he didn't want the baby, he locked her up in the hacienda like an animal (como si fuera un animal) and behaved as if she had a contagious illness (como si tuviera una enfermidad contagiosa).  And worst of all, he kept her apart from the man she loved.

Unsurprisingly, that's not how Aníbal recalls it.  She was 15 years old. That worthless creep (mequetrefe) of a boyfriend left her on her own and it was her father who stood by her.  And he has no regrets -- even if she hates him for it.

He had better be telling the truth, says Adriana, or he'll be very sorry. (Te vas a pagar muy caro/You are going to pay a high price.)

There's more than one drama queen in this household ...

Jean-Marie arrives for his appointment with Odette and is told she is not available. But he gets a thrilling glimpse of his crush, Estéfano Longoria.  It was soooooo worth wearing the pink blazer.

Nikki looks at herself in the mirror, pinches a centimeter on her middle and despairs.   Enter Guzmán:  "We need to talk." He has a pamphlet from a clinic that treats eating disorders (trastornos alimentarios) and he'd like to make her an appointment there.

Lili comes upon Adriana sitting alone and joins her.  In no time, Adri is confiding in the young girl while Lili comforts her.  "My poor daughter," says Adriana as she strokes Lili's hair and face.  She won't rest until she has found her.  They hug.  (They are like two lovers who can't stop touching each other.  Or maybe a mother and newborn who are only calm when they are heartbeat to heartbeat.) Lili urges Adriana to pray to the Virgin of Guadalupe.

At Meta Imagen, Beatriz turns down Salsero's dinner invitation; her dance card, sadly, is quite full right now.

At Cocina Balvanera, Polita, hangs on every word of Jean-Marie's breathless report of his Estéfano-sighting and gets a glimpse of E's photo in his locker (okay, the cupboard door).  Sigh.  Now if only he had that bad boy's phone number...

Victoria invites Arriago into her studio in order to advance the plotOn two fronts!

The first front: he wasn't there!
Arriaga regrets not giving his daughter a little sister, he says; and he regrets not being present at Lili's birth.

[A hush falls on the Patio of Lowered Expectations.  We lean forward ... um ... expectantly.]

Cristina went into labor early (A Cristina se adelantó el parto) while he was away working.  Luckily his mother-in-law was there with Cristina -- she was visiting during her vacation -- and she was able to help.  But it was wonderful when he got to the hospital and Cristina put his daughter in his arms.  Arriaga and Victoria agree: nothing compares with the birth of a child.

The second front: Pulling off the bandaid
Victoria may seem the pillar of her family but she confesses her vulnerability.  Luckily now she has him, giving her strength.  She grasps Arriaga's wrist.  "A friend."  She leans toward him. He springs up and so does she.  They are standing face to face. Much too close.  "What's wrong?" she asks.  "Nothing," says Arriaga.  He has to leave.  She begs him to stay and tell her what he feels.  They are a kiss apart ...

... and Arriaga says, with difficulty:
Yo siento que esto no está bien, yo digo que estamos haciendo las cosas mal.
(I feel that this isn't right, I mean ... we're doing things badly.)

They're getting things muddled and murky, he continues.  She's the boss and he's the employee.  That's it:
Usted y yo jamás vamos a ser amigos.  Ni lo somos.
(You and I are never going to be friends.  And we aren't friends now.)

Arriaga hasn't reached the door before Victoria's cold expression crumbles and her tears begin to fall.

Polita and Jean-Marie sneak into Victoria's study and find Estéfano's phone number in her address book.

At Meta Imagen, that model of secretarial efficiency and ethics, Gilda/Hilda/Whatever, tells Aníbal that not only has she found a detective for him, the guy is on his way to see him.  Of course she won't tell Paula, she says.

[Guffaws sound on the Patio.  The bastard has just the secretary he deserves.]

Jean-Marie calls Estéfano's number, nearly swoons when he hears the answering "Sí, diga," and hangs up.  He heard his voice!  His breathing!

Nikki, meanwhile, has been left muy friqueada (very freaked, captas?) by what her aunt said.  She can't believe her grandpa would do something so mega horrible.  Maybe if she talked to him ...  Victoria urges her not to get mixed up in it.  But right now, the piano teacher is waiting ...

A little stalkerish, no?
Out in the city, Adriana hides behind a tree and photographs young girls leaving la prepa.  Any one of them, she thinks, could be her daughter.

Detective Pastrana arrives for his appointment with Aníbal.  Here's what he has to do: First, find Dr. Alberto Montaño, an OB-GYN who worked in the Santa Rita Clinic in 1994 ...

Adriana photographs a poor girl who works in the street washing car windows.  She wonders about her daughter's lot and curses the person responsible for their separation -- Aníbal.

...Second task: find Candelaria Corona Torres.

When the detective leaves, the infeliz de Aníbal says to himself:
Ahora sabré lo que hizo el doctor con la bastarda.
(Now I'll find out what the doctor did with the bastard.)

[It's a good thing Spanish nouns are marked for gender or we'd think he was talking about himself, mutters someone at Lili's table.]

At the same time, Gilda/Hilda/Whatever is busy reporting back to Paula.  Pastrano is her godmother's son and he and Gilda are like brother and sister.  He knows just what to do -- give the info he finds right to Paula.  And why not?  He's getting paid twice, once by Paula and once by Aníbal.

Clair de Loonies
Nicole Brizz is seated at the grand piano.*  She fights with Debussy.  Debussy fights back.  Nikki gets frustrated, her teacher more so. Now Vicky storms in, drawn by the discordant notes.  She wants to know what is going on. The teacher has had it with Nikki -- She quits!  This is what, asks her mother, the second, the third time the teacher has quit? Hey, it's not Nikki's fault if her mother keeps hiring lousy teachers. Sorry.

[*Perhaps it is this very piano that will eventually fall on the inconvenient Cristina.  Who can tell?]

Guzmán looks on stoically.  Lili hovers in the background, tending to the plants.

Victoria continues.  She wants Nikki to make a commitment to something in life.  Nikki whines that she did make a decision to live in Europe and Vicky wouldn't let her go.  Oh puh-leeeeeaze.  Adriana wasn't living there anymore, Vicky reminds her, and goes on:  she used to make a few commercials, she used to compete ...  Nikki interrupts her mother.  She hasn't enjoyed the club since that "primitive"(rupestre) became a member.  Now finally Vicky loses her cool:  "When are you going to learn to respect Liliana?" she asks angrily.
[Before or after she finds out they are cousins?  They are taking bets on the Patio.]

Vicky is heading off to the agency to film a commercial.  Before leaving, she barks out a set of orders:  Tomasina is to find a new piano teacher for Nikki; and Nikki is to spend the rest of the day practicing her piano lesson, teacher or not.

¡Qué día! says Victoria. ¡Acaba de empezar y ya me siento agotada!
(What a day!  It just started and I already feel exhausted.)

It turns out Guzmán got something besides tsuris from his mother's side.
He sits at the keyboard and plays Chopin.  The plaintive waltz draws back Arriaga and Victoria, then Liliana and Tomasina.  When he pauses, they applaud.  "You should give piano lessons to Nikki," says Vicky.

Nikki, her hands resting familiarly and possessively on Guzmán's shoulders, snarks:  "Imagine.  A multi-use bodyguard.  Qué buena onda, ¿no?"

Over Guzmán's fair hair and perfectly sculpted face, Nikki and Lili exchange icy looks.

Avances:  Victoria realizes that she's hot for Jose Ángel and puts distance between them to avoid committing a "locura"; meanwhile the furry fornicator frolics freely with Kendramera; and Nikki and Guzmán continue their game.

NovelaMaven~~~~ You rock. What a wonderful recap. Loved the title too.

I really feel for Adri even though she is kinda stalkerish right now. She is such a tragic figure. She has absolutely lost everything. So sad. Anyballs is dog doo, I swear I think he made her boyfriend go away the same way he made Ms Vikki's go away too.

So now we know for sure that Cande switched the bebes but that Anyballs didn't know what happened? I'm not buying that. I think he knows the bebe was given to another family, but not who the family is.

I wish Adri would hire a detective on her own. This way she could go around old Anyballs to find out for herself before he feeds her some misinformation, which we all know he will.

So now we know for sure the Angel wasn't there when his bebe was born either. Interesting that both Adri and Cris were in a bad way when they gave birth. In a way I am kinda glad that Cande gave the bebe to Cris, the bebe stayed in the family, even though Cande may not have known who the birth mother was. We'll have to wait to see.

OOOO that moment between Vikki and the Angel, that was close, and the Angel surprisingly put his foot down. Amazing. I just hope now they respect each other, even though the "friendship" seems to be on the skids. I bet the next time Ms Vikki gets in trouble the "friendship" will be on again.

Loved Guzmi playing the piano again as he did in the beginning of this TN. I was hoping they would play another duet as they did in the beginning. That was really nice. So now Guzmi gets roped into being her piano teacher. This should be fun.

Hate, Hate, Hate, can you tell I hate the Fornicator??? As if poor Nikki doesn't have enough problems now he will use her as a pawn in this divorce. I want a HUGE PIECART TO HIT HIM , YESTERDAY, jus' sayin'.

I just woke up so I can watch the episode. Can't wait for Guzmi with the piano!

NovelaMaven my dear I shall return to heap praises upon you.

Perfection!

Claire de Loonies--wonderful! And of course the Patio theme is always fun.

Adri definitely got a little creepy. The teacher in me was discomfited watching her skulk about and take pictures of girls leaving.

Thanks for sharing your snark with us.

NovelaMaven: The tone, the content - masterful. You related the feelings, actions and raw emotions perfectly. Your characterizations and descriptions were superb. Your use of some of my favorite words and phrases was stellar. This reminded me of one of the many reasons I loved my dear amiga Judy's recaps. You delighted with: "smarmy", "blathers", and "balefully". Your vocabulary - phrases and embedded are truly appreciated. "Aníbal turns away, removes his silly blue glasses, then turns his naked face to her..." was my favorite line of many.

I thought the episode was brimming with suffering and sadness. While Adriana's palpable pain was hard to watch, there were quieter moments where searing pain and heartache abounded: Nikki's realization her grandfather is a heartless non-soul, Vicky wounded and reeling from the Angel's rejection. The list goes on and on.

One of the rare lighter moments was: "But he gets a thrilling glimpse of his crush, Estéfano Longoria. It was soooooo worth wearing the pink blazer", The fact we know Hilda is betraying Anibal give us some small (and greatly needed) satisfaction.

I really did think the Angel and Vicky were goint to kiss. I was yelling "no, no.." and thankfully, they listened :). What the Angel said to Vicky was a necessary cruelty. And, it looks like she will be reciprocating tonight. Their relationship must revert to employer/employee or they will take the next step from which they won't recover...

So, the Angel wasn't there at the birth. One more small piece revealed. Madelaine, yes, Adriana should be the one hiring a detective, and an honest one at that.

Thanks again NovelaMaven.

Diana

Excellent NovelaMaven!!

[Before or after she finds out they are cousins? They are taking bets on the Patio.]

I'm definitely sitting at the Lili table, and cheering for her to get a nice guy!

For sure Niki's only gonna realize her mistakes and cruelty toward Lili when she'll find out the truth.
I'm waiting for her to eat crow in every sense of the word!! :)

NovelaMaven - Thanks for the great recap.

I was also yelling "No No No" when it looked like Vikki and JA were zeroing in for un beso.

Really, is Vikki that much of an idiot? She's mad at her own husband for boinking a floozie, and she's mad at JA for intervening upon an almost-kiss and wanting to maintain professional distance? I lost a lot of respect for her I.Q. last night.

Madelaine - I hope the pie cart takes out Anibal and FF all in the same swipe.

*betting on Lili of course, what are the odds??
BTW - is there a possibility to edit your previous posts here? I couldn't find any edit button or link...

NovelaMaven! What a pleasant surprise! Your recap was FABULOUS!!!! I can't believe how you are able to organize a hot mess of story lines into clear, understandable paragraphs. So much I missed last night until I read this!

Loved: She rewards his answer with a cookie. [Is she training Guzmán?] HAHAHAHAHA! Poor Guzman. He does get treated like all the girls' pet. When both Polita, Lili and Nikki were all in the breakfast room I was worried for him.

And loved Clair de Loonies! I was at my daughter's piano lesson yesterday and I kid you not, she was assigned Clair de Lune!!! When I heard Nikki banging it out I thought, "Wow, hope we can raise that bar!"

Just perfect from beginning to end. Loved your two fronts since I missed one of the "fronts".

Muchas gracias, Amiga!

Katy

Fun recap NovelaMaven. I also laughed hard that the line about training Guzman with a cookie. :) He has way too many young girls after him. I would actually like to see him with a real woman after him.

ITA that I was creeped out by Adri watching the young girls. It would have been over the top creepy if she were a man. She needs to stop stalking random teens, and start a serious investigation. ITA that she should hire a detective. It was a good try, trying to pry the info out of Anibal, but she must have known that would be futile. Now she needs to get to work getting the info on her own.

Notice that JA and Lilly left the dining room just before it was mentioned that Adri gave birth in Santa Rita.

Thank you for the explanation of what happened between JA and Vicky. I don't pay a whole lot of attention when this tn is on, because you really don't need to. But when I looked up and Vicky was basically coming on to JA and about to kiss him, I was "qué, qué, what?!" impactada and mighty confused. It still seems out of character to me for her to just out of nowhere push JA to express his feelings for her.

NovelaMaven - great recap. Love all the headings, especially "There's more than one drama queen in this household" and "Victoria invites Arriaga into her studio in order to advance the plot." Appreciate the dialogue on the pivotal scenes.

Well, Vickie said she wanted a "friend" in Arriaga and she got one because he said what had to be said and did what had to be done for her and him, even though that’s not what she wanted. I could see an almost kiss when she falls off a horse and he moves in to comfort her. But I found it unsettling that they went from Arriaga talking about Lili's birth and Cristina being in bad shape after giving birth almost straight to Vickie’s neediness and an almost kiss. Not Vickie's finest moment.

Adriana said she'd been heavily sedated. I'm thinking that she didn't get ill like Cris did, but that they sedated her solely for the purpose of taking away the baby without her knowing it.

Yep, both Adriana and Cris can get real feisty. Adriana hadn’t even taken the time to greet Nikki yet. I guess just the mere sight of Anibal set her off. I too was a bit creeped out by Adriana photographing the school girls without them knowing it. But then she has been photographing a lot of other folks too without asking for permission.

Loved Jean Marie showing Polita he keeps a photo of Estafano plastered inside the cupboard door. Too cute.

Thanks for another gem of a recap, NovelaMaven. Supercool! OK? ¿Captas?

So, can I get by with saying that Vikki was something of a predator last night?

Sorry.

Carlos

NovelaMaven,

Beautifully written recap with all the important points cleverly
outlined and detailed...continue to love the Spanish phrases and am definitely recording them in my novela notebook. Again, many thanks.

My big problem - where do I find friends with whom I can use these phrases? "Mientes," y "Tu vas a pagar muy caro!"

For me last night was a disappointment because I thought we were going to learn about the contents of the tomb after a thorough investigation.
When Adriana arrived at the house the other day, she told Victoria that she didn't want to say anything else until she knew more.
Consequently, I was expecting a big revelation. Then she barges in and does her thing. She could have done that weeks ago. I guess this would be another example of lack of follow up.

For me, VICTORIA CROSSED THE LINE
last night in an overt seduction move. This was especially difficult to witness since she knew of the beautiful reunion of Arriaga and his wife, and how happy Lili is that her family is reunited and content. Is this woman a home wrecker?

With regard to the piano lessons, the saving grace of that whole scenario of course was the
Guzmancito performance. I thought the hands of the piano player looked a little chubby and not like the hands of G. Others no doubt noticed this. Otherwise,
the idea of a mother trying to force her troubled 20 year old daughter into taking piano lessons was ridiculous. You'd think she were an eight year old child ...or, come to think of it,
shades of The Tiger Mom, if any of you have read that, but that mother was consistent. I think some of you may have suggested
earlier that working in a soup kitchen for hours under the watchful eye of her bodyguard would be much preferred and more productive.

I think Bea is making good decisions. She is trying to make the best of a very bad situation.

Bea is the most rational, intelligent, well adjusted character in this whole tn. I really like her. I so wish that I could see how this whole Salsero romance thing will end well. I wish her love interest weren't a criminal because she deserves someone who comes without major baggage. I do like her chemistry with Salsero and I like the way he treats her.

And speaking of Santino, no one has mentioned his bangs. So..thumbs up?...thumbs down?...didn't notice?

Carlos

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! I enjoyed recapping this one. Natalia Esperón's Adriana earned my highest praise for TN actress in a pivotal, over-the-top dramatic confrontation: SHE WASN'T ANNOYING. I didn't have to turn down the volume once during her scenes.

Mads:
Adriana is absolutely a tragic figure. I am left wondering though -- She WAS only 15. In hindsight, Aníbal did her a terrible wrong. But maybe he really thought he was doing the right thing at the time.
P.S. Can you tell me about Guzmi playing the piano in the beginning? I missed that.

Sara:
My snark is your snark. As for the Patio, well I was happy to see that when the Pit crew moved on, there was plenty of room for the True Loves crowd. Salud!

Diana:
You absolutely made my day by the invoking the name of the incomparable JudyB. Thank you.

Did you notice that Vicky already started to "reciprocate" during the Guzmancito piano scene: JA starts to gush and Vicky shuts him down. Snap!

Maven...what an absolutely fabulous and articulate recap you gave us. Thank you!

I can't believe that the writers of this novela will actually give us a plot that leaves JA and Vicky as just friends or as just two people in a professional relationship. How they are actually going to become relationship partners, I have no idea, but my gut tells me that they will. However, not before the writers have tortured us insanely with JA's and Vicki's dance of on-again, off-again.

Guzman is doing everything in his power to help Nikki confront her bulimia, but he can only do so much as any awakened codependent knows. She's got to admit her illness and choose to deal with it.

Furry Fornicator keeps revealing ever-deeper layers of his scumbag self. A really good actor has the capacity to make the audience hate him, and Guillermo Capetillo is doing a great job in that department. Likewise, Susana Gonzalez is making us love her as much as we hated her in LQNPA.

NovelaMaven~~~~ I think it was the first week of this TN, Nikki was playing the piano, I think it was "Blue Moon" and she was murdering the piece, as she did last night. So Guzmi played and she joined him in a piano duet. She was muy impressed he could play so well, and then we speculated that his Mama Pauwhiner must have taught him to play, as she plays so well herself.

Carlos~~~~ Love the Salsa Man's bangs, they make him look like a sweet man. Jus' sayin'

Floridia~~~~~~ For once, I am going to shock and awe you : ), and agree about Vikki crossing the line. I liked Dona Gringuita's description of the dance that Vikki and Angel do. Ms Vikki's problem right now is she is alone, angry, and very hurt and she thinks she can turn to her friend, but that being said, she expected way more than friendship and for that I am kinda mad at her. She should definitely know better. She should have just talked to Tomi, her main confidant, and left Angel out of her personal bidness.

So many wonderful comments:

Vivi: "Notice that JA and Lilly left the dining room just before it was mentioned that Adri gave birth in Santa Rita". I did and wanted to note that but forgot. So glad you did. Still, is there any reason to think that it might have triggered an "uh, oh" moment from JA?

Floridia: Yes, 20 is a bit old to be forced into piano lessons. But, having Frankie as her tudor may make up for this "intolerable cruelty". :)

Niecie: "I'm thinking that she didn't get ill like Cris did, but that they sedated her solely for the purpose of taking away the baby without her knowing it". Insightful and if true, very sad...

Carlos: "Predator". Really?? Isn't that just a tad harsh? I agree she was too close for comfort but I like to think she would have backed off before the actual kiss (I say in firm, perhaps delusional denial). Oh and Salsero's bangs? Did notice and do miss them. :)

Dona Gringuita: "Susana Gonzalez is making us love her as much as we hated her in LQNPA. Yes - well said".

Diana

irisz79:
Oh I'm definitely a fan of Lili's and might stop by her table, as crowded as it probably is. But Nikki needs me more so that's where I spend most of the time.:)

And no, there's no way to edit your posts. You have three choices: ignore your error and move on (what I usually do); delete the whole thing and start again; or correct your error in a follow-up comment.

Doris:
I had a different fate in mind for Aníbal. After he is forced out of Meta Imagen and the family mansion, he joins forces with Odette, KendRamera, Paula and Gilda/Hilda/Whatever. He manages their down-market stage act: KendRamera and the Odettes. They earn enough to live in a vecindad. They bicker all the time and scheme and plot against one another.

As for the FF ... yeah, the pie cart would be good.

Katy:
It's a good thing your daughter's piano lesson happened before this episode. It would have been SO embarrassing for you to sit there giggling about Clair de Loonies!

Vivi:
A couple of episodes back, we saw Adriana go to Santa Rita to find the names of her OB doctor and the nurse working there when she gave birth. She was told the records were destroyed in a flood 10 years earlier. Without a name to start the search, would a detective be much help? I wonder.

Niecie in MD:
No, not Vicky's finest moment. Ah well. She'll cope. But there will be some cranky moments for the people around her while she wraps her head around the reality of the Angel's role in her life. (For now.)

Carlos:
Predator? Mega harsh, no? She was unwise, maybe a victim of her own bad prose.

I did notice Salsero's rather exuberant 'do last night. A little too much product, I thought.

Floridia:
You say those things to the same crowd you tell to: ¡Suéltame! ¡Lárgate! ¡cállate! O sea, los infelices, los descarados, los mentirosos ... ¿captas?

I actually thought Adriana's scene was an explosion of frustration after she failed to get any info from Santa Rita.

Yes, Bea is trying to get it right. But her hideous ex- isn't letting go. There is no possible happy ending to this thread of the plot although there are several possible resolutions. We'll know soon enough.

NovelaMaven~~~~ about the Detective, I have to agree with Vivi too. She could start at the clinic and have the detective, start with doctors that worked there at the time. Most docs, that would be country docs, usually stay where they are at. Surely a nurse or someone would know the name of an ob/gyn that worked there shortly before she gave birth. I dont' know I am like a terrier that doesn't let go of a clue I guess : ) Just cause the records were destroyed in a flood doesn't mean that noone would remember this doc.

Carlos - The bangs make Salsero look sweet, like the kind of guy that would buy a candybar for Beatriz's son. But I prefer his hair combed back, like the kind of guy that would wipe the floor with Leo.

Dona Gringuita:
I like your description of the on-again, off-again relationship dance we can expect from Arriaga and Victoria. Just look at the opening credits -- they usually (although not ALWAYS) tell the story.

Mads:
Thanks for the description of the earlier piano scene. Sounds sweet.

Diana:
I see our posts crossed but that you had an almost identical reaction to Carlos's characterization of Vicky as predatory -- HARSH.

NovelaMaven- ITA. Adri's P.I. will have to work harder than Anibal's, since he knows the doc's name. But a P.I. would be able to dig and ask questions that lead to the right people who would remember who was around then. This is something Adri is just too emotional to do right now. I agree that her explosion was more about frustration at not finding any info in Santa Rita.

Mads- We're thinking the same thing about the P.I. :)

Ok, Madelaine. You have convinced me: Adriana should hire a detective. But she needs to find one with no ties to Kendramera and the Odettes! As you know, TN detectives are notoriously shady and willing to alter their findings or sell them to the highest bidder.

Hey, wait. What is she hired Arriaga to poke around in Santa Rita?

Vivi:
Yes, you're right about the PI. If Vicky fires Arriaga or suspends him while her ardor cools, maybe he will be free to work for Adriana. Then he can be the one who stumbles on the truth.

NovelaMaven---Great recap and great snark. My favorite was "that old repobate Anibal."

Floridia---Is this woman a home wrecker? It's looking that way.

Vivi---Surprised? Vicky coming on to JA, JA coming on to Vicky---it's been happing all through this novela. Next time, it won't be stopped.

Carlos---Salsero's hair/bangs--a BIG thumbs down.
the gringo

NovelaMaven and Vivi~~~~ I hear tell that when Adri lived in Paris, that famous Detective M. Hercule Poirot was visiting Paris, we all know he is Belgian, and she made his aquaintance. Who knows, maybe he will do some snopping around for her, jus' sayin'.; )

Poirot is just who she needs! Wouldn't you love to see the big reveal in the drawing room when Poirot exposes Anibal? :)

Gringo- I guess I'm not surprised that Vicky or JA crossed a line, as usual. But more by the fact that they were both conscious (remember the butterfly kisses) and that Vicky just came straight out and asked him what he feels, unlike the silent dance they usually do around their feelings for each other. That's what was really shocking.

Thank you for the recap, NovelaMaven!

Salsero's new haircut: he looks like Spock now. I wish Nikki was yelling at him saying "Dude, it's superawful, equis, look for a new hairstylist, OK?!".

"For me last night was a disappointment because I thought we were going to learn about the contents of the tomb after a thorough investigation."

Oh... Sweet innocence. :) This show is almost three times slower than the original ones. It takes them 5 episodes to cover one single day.

The scene in Victoria's workshop was strange: she stated at least hundred times that she isn't interested in Angel (of course she is but denial ain't just a river in Egypt) and don't forget she was sincerely happy about the reunion of the Arriagas. And when JA told her that they have to keep distance, she immediately realized and admited that he was right and she made a fool of herself. But unfortunately she crosses the line very easily when it comes to Arriaga.

But no, she isn't a homewrecker, she doesn't want to seduce JA. The words flakey/lightheaded describe her better in scenes like this.

NM I'd really like to visit the vecindad where they live, it'd be surely never a dull moment.. :) or maybe a person should go far, far, far away never to get into cross fire? decisions, decisions..

Carlos, I like Sals.'s hair combed back, but not with too much gel, ha has a nice wavy hair.

Vivi, I for sure like to be there to guide me step by step all the missed moments and reveal the whole truth, we are much in the dark on so many levels, here and it doesn't seem the writers are hurrying up the clearing procedure :(

Vivi~~~~ Oh, yes I could just see M. Poirot exposing Anibal for just who he is and what he has done, it would be a hoot for sure as Anyballs lies and obfusticates his way out : )

NovelaMaven~~~ Loved your idea about the musical trio, of Kendho, Odiodette and Anyballs, lol. And the hood to boot, what a hoot. I want Odiodette to be the lead singer and Anyballs and Kendho to be the back up singers. How about Odio and the Clare de Loonies, lol.

Doris~~~~~ So agree with you about that Piecart for Furry Fornicator and Anyballs, but I want the SUPERSIZED one for sure. ; )

Oh gracious, NvMv--Can I join the crowd on the Patio of Lowered Expectations? I'll bring a bottle of Baileys, as long as you have the ice and glasses. Are lounge chairs available to watch the show?

Guzzi & Nikki were behaving nicely to each other, but yes, your are so right on...playing games. Only it's Guzzi who always seems to be on the losing side. His stoicism is killing me. Can we take bets on whether she makes and/or keeps the appointment with the trastorno doctor?

So, on the first front--there didn't have to ba a baby "switch" per se. Adri was only TOLD the baby was dead and when she asked to see her--they had already "buried" the baby. Whether Anyballi actually knew Candelli was the one the doctor handed the newborn to, he's going to find out, along with Paulli.

I think the writers are just building up the tension between Vikki and Jositto (gotta be consistent here) to make us out on the Patio suffer. They certainly know how to work us. A kiss is what we are all waiting for; but a kiss is baadd karma for the two of them. Vikki is being a lot more forward about her feelings than JA. It's not fair to him. She should be letting him make the first moves. [Carlos--just read your comment...as far as I'm concerned, the term predator fits.] Did she even for one hot second think of the consequences of CROSSING OVER that LINE [thanks, Floridia]?

As far as I know, there's no way to edit a comment. When I write something the wrong way and want to change it, I hit copy, then delete the whole comment and start over, with a paste job and make the corrections.

If it's minor, just add a new comment correcting your perceived error.

Thanks, Gringo!
When Aníbal comes on the screen, I see the words "that old reprobate" as clearly as if they were captions. (If Uni knew how to do captions, I mean.)

Madelaine and Vivi:
Hercule Poirot would be an inspired choice. And Jean Marie and Polita would dog his steps, full of helpful but consistently wrong advice. Meanwhile we could mangle three languages instead of two.

As for combos, I can imagine all sorts of groups. And they'd all be clamoring for Guzmancito on the keyboard:)

Yes, Aribeth:
"Flakey" is a good description for Vicky's behavior. But the big guy has done his share of boundary-crossing, at least verbally. Now, after his big falling out with Cris and their loving reconciliation, he is determined to be strong. We'll so how long that lasts.:)

Yay! Anita is here!

Okay, *now* it's a party on the Patio. Of course you can join us!

Does this mean we'll have a store? What would we call it? One thing is certain: Knock-offs of Kendra's wardrobe would overwhelm a Ramerawear department.

Note to all:

Your comments are hysterical. I'm trying to get some work done, and I keep taking a peek to see who said what next.

Madelaine - I always knew you were on the side of "Doing the right thing." I agree that Vicky should have known better.

Aribeth - How right you are! I see that I have been all too naive in hoping for rock solid evidence with which to unravel this mystery so soon.

NovelaMaven - Armed with my TN vocabulary, I shall go forth and seek or make enemies.

Diana - I don't think there could possibly be any backing off of that kiss once it was set in motion. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE!

Carlos & Anita - Count me in with the Predator crowd - NOT BEING one that is, simply recognizing one.

HAS ANYONE ELSE NOTICED the beautiful colors of the beverages on the Balvanera dining table? Or am I the only one?
I love the transparent purple stuff in the goblets, whatevertheheckitis.
Then last night, large glass pitchers of what looked like orange juice and tomato juice, and that clear purple stuff was in some goblets, too.

Salsero bangs . . . ITA with Niecie's comment.
Aribeth - "Spock" … OMG…. too funny!

I might start calling Nikki "Claire Balloon." That was painful.

Madelaine - Let's forget the pie cart and bring in a Mack Truck. ;o)

If the store was stocked with only Kendra's stuff, we could call it Rameras R Us.

Just what would learning to play the piano do for Nikki? Victoria's over-the-top demand that she learn makes no sense (even for this tn). Will Nikki then become a concert pianist and her life's path be set?

Carlos - Salsero's bangs are two thumbs WAAAY down. Looked like he had on a bad wig!

If Arriaga becomes Adriana's PI, will he tell the truth and give up his child?

Anonymous - if Nikki could at least bang out a listenable tune, it might be the first productive thing she has ever done in her life. This may be what drives Vikki in that.

I'm not putting money on Adriana hiring a P.I. because then she'd have to leave the "victim" table on the characters' patio.

O...I...C
Makes sense, I guess, but she was still way too vehement. You'd think she was getting ready for a Carnegie Hall performance. LOL

Nikki must have actually put some effort into piano practice earlier in her life. She was bad, but she wasn't trying to play well, and you could tell that she could actually read the music and the tune was recognizable. I can't blame her at all; I remember having to learn Clair de Lune in piano lessons and it was my least favorite piece ever. I probably played it just like Nikki, except that my piano teacher would NEVER have let me have long fingernails and play all flat-fingered like that.

Guzmancito just couldn't resist showing off, could he? Serves him right that now he'll have to give the bratling lessons. Although that will probably last one day, like everything else she is supposed to stick with.

Polita is so funny, and I liked the scene with the locker pic inside the cabinet.

Oh Dear, NovelaMaven, I'll have to check the wholesalers for special deals on a wide range of items.

We'll have to have Claire Balloons and Training cookies.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

I knew there'd be more than RameraWear!

Please tell me this shop will have an art department.

I think the Art Department should be triple-brow:

HIGH BROW

LOW BROW

and

UNIBROW

Hmmmm, should it be a huge Meta*Mart or a Puchis-Boutique?

If we go for Meta*Mart, we will definitely have an art dept. and a book nook and a poetry corner.
