Amores Verdaderos #46 Mon 1/14/13 Adriana Disappears Again; the Shrew and the Gorilla Have a Happy Holiday

* The Angel of Music Hugs and the Little Painter meet in the hall of the Balvanera hacienda where the big guy tells the Senora that he didn’t know she painted so good. He seriously sounds like a 10 years old schoolboy who’s impressed by his favourite teacher. Vicky is flattered but she quickly corrects him: you mean Tomasina, don’t you. Well, yes, of course, he’s talking about Tomasina. She’s a very talented painter and it seems she can see through his very soul. After he leaves, Victoria whispers worriedly that oops, Arriaga pretty sure knows it was her who committed that crime again good taste.

* Bratty and Robo-Hunk-Hottie Frankie have a super-super-okay-happy day in the countryside: they play darts, laugh, tease each other, laugh, ride horses, laugh, and run around in the rain.

* In the dining room Victoria praises Jean Marie’s cooking skills: the lunch he made is the most insanely delicious thing ever. Tomasina hisses through her teeth that it wasn’t cooked by Jean Marie but Cristina whom she can’t stand. First she was nosing around in the art studio, and now she’s taken over the kitchen! Vicky tries to calm her down: come on, this is a huge house, Chrissie surely got lost. Polita runs into the room screaming that they got a call from the hospital. Victoria answers the phone, and she goes through the phases worried-pale-frightened-devastated in ten seconds. Jesus, Adriana had a car accident! Vicky didn’t even know she’d come back from Europe.

* At Meta Imagen Salsero the Smooth Criminal gives a huge bouquet of flowers with a card saying “Santino Roca” to Beatriz, also known as the fair lady of his heart. Aníbal shows up in the hall, too, just in time to receive the news about Adriana’s accident from Vicky. He leaves for the hospital. Bea gets a call from Paula who invites her for dinner and sleep-over – whoa, Hell has surely frozen over. She tells her mother about what happened to Adriana.

* In the hospital Vicky is already frightened out of her mind, so the Angel tries to calm her down. In the meantime Cristina complains Tomasina about Arriaga and how fed up she is with his job. She just wants to go back to the countryside and if José Ángel is too busy to phone the police officer who’s investigating after the arsonist, then she’ll have to take matters into her own hands.

* Bea loves the flowers but she tells Dances with Sunglasses bluntly that she doesn’t want to get involved into another relationship now that she’s in the middle of an ugly separation from the father of her son. He answers that he wasn’t expecting anything, he just wants her to be his dance partner. She has no objection against it. Kendho shows up at the agency and she’s looking for Nelsoncito. She discovers the bouquet, assumes it’s for her, and tells Dances that next time he should buy more expensive flowers. Oh, I like that b*tch, please expression on his face. (Version B: she realizes it's for Bea and she's jealous.)

* The drama club in the hospital, act 2: a doctor informs Vicky that Adriana has already left the building. She falls into the Angel’s arms crying. Finally Grandpa arrives at the hospital, too, and father and daughter quickly get into a quarrel about Adriana: daddy grumbles about Adri who has always been a reckless rebel, Vicky becomes hysterical, Aníbal grabs her arm, but fortunately the Angel intervenes before their fight could get really ugly. Victoria and Arriaga leave, and Paula takes over their place: she came to give some support her good old ex-lover. They hug each other. (But she definitely doesn’t want to restart their relationship.)

* In the winter garden/greenhouse/whatever Chrissie tells Lili about her plans. Little Orchid thought bubbles that Cristina’s jealousy is so sad, there’s no way Tomasina and Victoria like her dad. *Viewerville: oh sweet innocence*

 * In the car and later in the office Vicky tells Arriaga (and Viewerville) about the mystery of her lost sister: she’s ten years younger than her, she’s moved to Europe when she was fifteen, and they usually meet twice a year. José Ángel wishes he had a sibling. Victoria remembers back the good old days when Adriana was a happy, carefree child… but she changed when she became a teenager. When she became pregnant, Aníbal locked her up at the ranch, and the father of the baby left her when he got known about the child. *Viewerville: you mean that is what Aníbal told you* Vic tells the Angel in tears that by that time she was in Italy with Nelson and their newborn daughter, and she was studying design at a university because her dad wanted to promote her to be the head of the creative section of Meta Imagen. Arriaga asks her if she married for love, to which she answers that she learned to love Nelson.

* Aníbal and Paula have a drink in a bar, and she advices him to make amends with Adriana, try to rebuild their relationship.

* In the meantime Adriana and Antonio are also sitting in a restaurant, talking about her accident. Why on Earth did she leave the hospital so quickly? Why? Because she didn’t want to meet her father. Not until she confirmed that her daughter is still alive.

* Lili and Chrissie leave Mexico City. Cristina doesn’t want to call José Ángel because she’s still angry at him for leaving with Vicky without saying goodbye, so she asks her daughter to send a text message to Arriaga. By the way, Liliana doesn’t want to move back to the countryside. First of all, she and her daddy would lose their job, and… well… You don’t want to leave Guzmán, do you, asks Cristina. Actually, Lili feels guilty for liking the same man whom Polita set her eyes upon.

* Vicky informs Nelson about Adriana, who he pulls his usual “couldn’t care less but tries to look like he does” act. Naturally he can’t go home with his wife because he has to go through a new contract or whatever. Kendho calls Nelson to tell him that she wants to make hot furry sex in his office but he isn’t fond of the idea: at Meta Imagen they should stick to work. All right. And tell me, my darling, do you love me? Of course I LIKE you, answers Casanova. How romantic.

* In the conference room (you know, the one with the huge green pencil stabbed into the table) Bea takes a look at the hideous drawing of Aníbal, and the Angel tells him that he’s Victoria’s father. Vicky comes into the room and notices that Bea worked overtime, so she sends her home and tells her that she can spend the morning at home. Arriaga notices that Vicky’s still in low spirits so he tells her in his good old bedroom voice that his father always said that the best therapy for problems was… *Viewerville: what? a massage?* Work! He grabs her chair and wheels her into her office. She laughs and she realizes that Arriaga knows her better than her own husband.

* On the ranch Nikki orders Guzmán to prepare food for her, and since he’s some kind of Mexican superman, he cooks such a delicious dinner that she can’t resist. *Viewerville: at last* However, there’s a huge storm outside, suddenly the light goes out, and since she’s afraid of thunders, she starts to panick and jumps into the surprised Guzmáncito’s arms. Uhh-ohh.

Video of the day:
Erika and Eduardo 30 years ago in the telenovela El maleficio

Videos of the day #2:

The wonderful with Francisco Gattorno, Lety Calderón, Mónica Sánchez, César Évora and Silvia Manríquez (Paula) has been uploaded to youtube.

The last episode is here. You can see many familiar faces in the video. :)

I really wish Adriana would just call Vicky and tell her she's ok. It's not fair to Vicky. And there's no point in the secrecy anymore since Anibal now knows she's in Mexico. She doesn't have to go to the house, see or speak to Anibal. She doesn't even have to see Vicky-- just call her and put her mind at ease.

I agree, Vivi, that Adriana should call Vikki, however I think Adriana is stuck in 'victim' mode and cannot see beyond it anymore (or at least at this point in time).

Vikki needs to be hit with a Nerf bat for sending her aimless daughter to the hacienda to figure out her life. Hel-lo? Some adult parental guidance in the figuring out might be needed. That's where Vikki drops the ball as a parent.
We always told our son that if he ever needed time to figure out his life, he could do it in the military or while working a full-time job somewhere.
I know, I know, this hacienda time is merely a plot device for the NikMancito pairing. ~rolls eyes~

Doris- I think Vicky has tried to guide Nicki and help her figure out what job she wants/would be good at. We saw in the first episode that part of the problem is that when Vicky puts her foot down with Nicki-- Nicki goes around her and goes to her father and grandfather who let her do or get whatever she wants. Vicky is constantly overruled by the two men in the house. She had an argument with Nelson and Anibal about this in the first episodes and they blew her off.

I actually think she's being fair to Nicki. The deal is that Nicki take these days to figure out what she wants to do. If she doesn't, then Vicky is going to cut her off. I think this is mroe fair than going right to cutting her off. This is Nicki's chance, and she's not taking it seriously so far. But she likely doesn't thinkt hat Vicky will follow through on her threat. I hope Vicky surprises her (and us) and follows through with the threats. But even if she does, Nicky would just go to daddy or grandpa and get cash, credit cards, and gifts. Vicky can't win.

Aribeth: Excellent screen shots. The videos were great fun...

30 years is a long time. I think Erika did and does look lovely. Eduardo? I think he has gotten even handsomer with age.

Thanks for the videos - I enjoyed seeing everyone Cesar and Francisco are still handsome devils themselves. Love Leticia.

Yes, Adriana's silence is really hurting Vicky. Doris, you are spot on in that Adriana is in victim mode. Vicky could be her biggest ally - she is her (only) supporter. She shouldn't close her out.

Can't wait for the recap Aribeth.

Diana

Aribeth - Thanks for the clip. The young Eduardo is adorable, but the mature one oh so fine. The years have been good to both him and Erika.

ITA Adriana should call Vickie. I think, though, because Vickie didn't hang tough with Adriana way back when against Anibal, Adriana is thinking that Vickie would somehow inadvertently (not intentionally) aid Anibal. Adriana wants to make sure she's not blocked from uncovering that the baby isn't buried in the grave before she speaks to Vickie. She and Vickie haven’t spoken in years, so in Adriana’s mind what does a few more days/weeks matter. Adriana is paranoid at this point. She probably never received psych help over the loss of her baby.

It's not true that she and Vickie haven't spoken in years. The pic of her, Vicki and Nicki in Paris was recent. Plus, the reason Vicki was so worried about her when she spoke to Anibal last was precisely because she hadn't heard from her in a while. She told Arriga that she goes to Europe twice a year to see Adriana.

When the baby thing happened, Vicki explains that she was in Italy studying her Master's degree, and had her own baby Nicki that she was caring for at the time. She does still feel guilty about not doing more, but she wasn't even in the country. So it's not like she was standing around and watching Anibal treat Adri like crap and locking her up. Who even knows how much Anibal told Vicki and how much she found out on her own about the situation later.

Vivi - I didn't realize that Vickie had seen Adriana that recently. I don't think Vickie is to blame at all - I'm sure she couldn't fathom all of what Anibal was up to. But it's only natural for Vickie to feel guilty in hindsight that maybe she could've done something.

Exactly.
I'm pretty sure there are many strong-willed, level-headed women who would've fought against Nelson and Aníbal harder and would've discipline their children better. But hey, Nikki isn't rotten to the core yet, so I guess one day we will see how the efforts of Vicky and Tomasina work out.

" So it's not like she was standing around and watching Anibal treat Adri like crap and locking her up."

Exactly.

***

I think all of the Balvaneras are eccentric and selfish to a certain extent, and this applies to Vicky and Cristina, too, even though they are the most caring and self-sacrificing members of the family. As doris pointed out very accurately, Adriana is in victim mode. Not that what happened to her wasn't horrible but she takes her pain and suffering to a new theatrical level. (But she's an interesting chararcter otherwise, I like her. And Natalia Esperón is a talented actress, though her career has been less then stellar since the '90s. She was very good in Rencor apasionado and La esposa virgen.)

" So it's not like she was standing around and watching Anibal treat Adri like crap and locking her up."

well, not quite... according to what she told Angel last night, she was in Europe studying to come back to become the creative lead in the company while all the events were going on with Adriana... and even though she was old enough to come home to try to vow for Adriana, maybe she had limited resources at the time since she was still at school and probably didn't even know what was going on back home... if He had locked up Adriana at the hacienda, he could have very well have been blocking off any communication between Vicky and Adriana until it was too late for Vicky to do anything about it.

Marta- Not only that, but she also had her own baby she was taking care of (while in grad school in Europe). I am sure Anibal made it difficult for the sisters to communicate during that time and Vicki probably didn't even know half of what was going on with Adri at the time.

Aribeth, Laberintos de Pasión is the only Blanco/Peña novela that I've missed. It has such a good cast too. Thanks for the clips.

I liked young Eduardo's hair, it was his trademark back then.

I also liked Natalia Esperón in Por Un Beso and she became an icon of her generation with Agujetas de Color de Rosa, she was actually quite popular mid to late 90's. She retired for a while after getting married and having kids which is why she stopped getting leading roles and only came back for some supporting ones.

One thing we learned last night is ~~~ that Nikki cannot possibly be Adriana's daughter. So that leaves Lili or ... whoever

Vivi - I agree with you about Vikki being fair in giving Nikki time to sort out her life before cutting her off.

I'll bet Nikki does NOT end up getting cut off, though. Either Anibal or Nelson or Vikki's own enabling parenting technique will be the impediment to cutting her off.

Paula has been with Anibal for the past 20 years. Have they said whether or not she knows that Anibal lied about the baby dying? Is it only Adriana's godfather that knew?

Thanks Aribeth for the vintage videos. Eduardo is so handsome, he makes me as jealous as Chris.

Gobluefan---your comment yesterday---yes I like Guzman and Adriana as a couple but it looks like Guzman has decided to tame the shrew.

That scene in the peek ahead segment shows Nelson frolicking with Kendra in the office, while Vicki is watching through the blinds. I wonder if this will turn out to be another imaginary dream sequence? It seems too early in the series for Vicki to discover Nelson's infidelity.

Vivi in DC---I always enjoy your well thought out comments. Did you major in psycology?
the gringo

I agree that Vicky probably didn't know much of what was going on back when Adriana had her baby. That would have been just before it was common to have cell phones and email. With Adriana kept at the country estate, it would have been easy for Anibal to control her communications.

Thunderstorm and power outage? Staff retired to bed early? How conveeeeenient, Guzmancito. I was surprised he didn't sit down to eat with Nikki so they could slurp a noodle from opposite ends and meet in the middle. Really, though, he should have joined her. She was actually eating. Keep her happy.

Maybe Nikki will eat all her dinner and be too scared of the thunder and lightning to move away from Guzman, thus making sure she keeps her food down!

Vicki got on my nerves last night with all that screaming at Anibal at the hospital. I'm not saying she shouldn't scream at him, just that it was sooo inappropriate there. It was not a realistic scene, as the background extras never even looked their way. Someone screaming at the top of their voice in a hospital usually brings reprimands from the staff, not to mention security!

Waiting breathlessly for your recap Aribeth. Meanwhile, I agree with Doris. Vicki can't win with Nikki no matter what she does. She needs to get out of that sick family dominated by two womanizing men who are pathetic role models for Nikki.

And it looks like tonight she will have the opportunity to "see through the blinds" where Nelson and Kendra-Ho are going at it. Let's hope she let's herself see and KNOW what she sees.

Aribeth, can't wait for your alway, fab recap, and so enjoyed the links you put in. Ayi, Eduardo was such a hunk back in the day, but he has matured better than best I have to say, what a hunkalious hunk, but then again I am a fan girl : ). My favorite part of the epi was when the Angel and Ms Vikki were in her office, I think, and she told him the history of what happened with Adri and their relationship. I loved the way he sat and listened and looked at her. If he looked at me like that I'd spill too, jus' sayin'.

Madelaine: I"f he looked at me like that I'd spill too, jus' sayin'".

Amen to that amiga. Amen.

Diana

Recap is up, I'll add the screencaps soon.

Aribeth,
loved the recap... here are my two favs...
he pulls his usual “couldn’t care less but tries to look like he does” act.
how true!!!

and

Kendho ...discovers the bouquet, assumes it’s for her, and tells Dances that next time he should buy more expensive flowers. Oh, I like that b*tch, please expression on his face

and

since he’s some kind of Mexican superman, he cooks such a delicious dinner that she can’t resist.

Aribeth - terrific. I'm going to remember "hot furry sex" so I can laugh to get through that KendHo-Nelson scene that the previews showed for tonight.

Beatriz is staying with Paula tonight, Guillo is staying with his dad tonight, and Cris and Lili will be back in their little town for the night. They made a point of establishing no one will be in the apartment tonight and I'm scratching my head about what that's all about.

I too enjoyed the scene with Vickie and Angel in the office. In the past I think he's been in awe of her. This time, when she was relating Adriana's story and he was probing about her marrying Nelson, it was more like they were equals.

Hate seeing my poor Crissie self-destructing like this. Lili is so sweet and straight with her mom, outlining to her why they can't go back to the life they had before.

Vickie seemed to have doubts about whether Adriana's baby's father really just ran off as Anibal said.

Great job, Aribeth.

I was stunned and annoyed when Vikki announced that Adriana was gone... Whaaat?

If she'd lose the gloominess, she could become a real fave for me.

Wasn't Nikki a joy last night? I held my breath when she picked up her fork... a normal bite... Yey! She's cured!

Carlos

Carlos:
"I was stunned and annoyed when Vikki announced that Adriana was gone... Whaaat?"

So was I. "What? Gone? Dead? Huh?" She's bit of a drama queen, isn't she. :)

Aribeth: Here are a few favorites picked from your garden of sparkling treasures: "Arriaga pretty sure knows it was her who committed that crime against good taste", "she goes through the phases worried-pale-frightened-devastated in ten seconds, "Salsero the Smooth Criminal" and "who he pulls his usual “couldn’t care less but tries to look like he does act".

This was sensational! So much fun...

Pivotal moments: "She laughs and she realizes that Arriaga knows her better than her own husband" and "Arriaga asks her if she married for love, to which she answers that she learnt to love Nelson". Their intimacy is being born of true caring, understanding and respect. Nelson posesses none of these virtues.

Best moment was the Angel inserting himself and his hand in front of Anibal to prevent him from going at Vicky in the hospital. The almost imperceptible shake of his head toward Anibal as he left the hall left no doubt that any untoward action from Anibal will not be tolerated.

I completely misinterpreted the Bea/Kendho conversation. I thought Kendho suspected the flowers were for Bea as she gave her such a piercing stare (which Bea seemed oblivious to).

Call me cynical but I don't suspect for a moment DWS wants Bea as a dancing partner. Only.

Am hoping Adriana and Vicky will get to have a reunion of sorts soon.

Nikki and Frankie are cute but that's about it. Not much substance. The Vicky/Angel storyline is much more compelling.

Again, thank you Aribeth! This was great.

Diana

Diana, to be honest, I'm not sure that Kendho didn't connect the dots about Bea.
But it's funnier to assume that she still believes that Salsero wants her and only her.

Carlos: "Wasn't Nikki a joy last night? I held my breath when she picked up her fork... a normal bite... Yey!"

I am still laughing..Oh my. You are so loyal! I can only imagine your praise should she actually consume (and contain) a full meal!! :)

Diana

This is great, Aribeth. Thank you.

My favorites (among so many sharp lines) -- "hot furry sex" (too funny), and "the drama club" meeting at the hospital.

Yeah, Doris, Nikki is out as a candidate for Adriana's long-lost baby.

How they faked us out last night! "Adriana se fue." She has left us. Am I the only one who assumed she had gone to that great ad agency in the sky?

I may be confused about this but it seems all roads lead to Santa Rita -- the pueblo that Lili and Christina are heading for, the location of the hacienda, and the location of the cemetery. Which sets us up to consider Lili as the lost Lucia. But we've been set up before ...

Ah never mind. Let's sip some Baileys on ice and wait for the story to unfold.

Aribeth and Diana, I thought it was pretty funny the way Kendra reacted when she realized the flowers were for Beatriz. She told Salsero that if he ever sends her flowers, to make sure they're not so "naco". (or something like that.)

Great job again Aribeth!

Now I'm really curious who could be Adri's daughter. Nikki no, Lili???
If so, how the Arriaga's got her??

Adri should snap out of the victim mode and make some moves to get the truth out of daddy.

Nikki finally eating, can't beleive my eyes!! But for sure she will leave the whole plate there because of the thunder.

Dances gonna court Bea? Hmm, that bouquet was a nice move! S.t.i.c.k it up Kend'ho!!

Thanks, Aribeth, for a very enjoyable recap. I channel surfed during a commercial and stayed too long watching The Bachelor (I am truly ashamed) and missed the ending. I needed your recap to fill me in so thanks so much. Also enjoyed the clips. I think I like Big Ed a little better since he's aged.

I, too, find Vicky's screeching hard to take. She definitely doesn't sound pretty when she raises her voice.

I wonder if Anibal will think about how Pau whiner showed up at el hospital with the info that Anibal was there to see Adriana. Bea shouldn't be giving out info over the phone, let alone taking private calls on her first few days at work. And he doesn't know Bea is Pau whiner's daughter.

GinCA

I added the screencaps, and thanks for the great comments!

Aribeth---Loved your great recap---
everything is in there.

KenHo didn't think that the flowere were good enough--WHAT!!! Are some people really that bad? The anvil is waiting for you girl.

Julia---slurping noodles from opposite ends. LOL Well they didn't do that but the thunder and lightning sure helped.

Advances, Vickie now knows the truth about Nil-son. Tonight should be good.
the gringo

- deleted old post to fix typos... argh-

Thank you for the recap, Aribeth. :-)

NovelaMaven - I also interpreted the doctor's info as 'she had died; she's gone; as in ... we lost her'.
I thought that was why Vikki was bawling over. Who on earth would fall apart because someone got up out of bed and ran away… unless they knew they were in a telenovela.

I really liked how JA moved in between Anibal and Vikki at the hospital, when Anibal was getting aggressive toward Vik. Very subtle body language and facial expression from JA, but Anibal saw it and backed off her. Yay!

I watched that scene of Nikki eating Guzman's meal with dread…. dread that we would be subjected to yet another .. ahem .. Nikki-in-the-bathroom scene. Yuck. Sorry, I can't help it. We've seen so many before…

Diana, ITA with:

Pivotal moments: "She laughs and she realizes that Arriaga knows her better than her own husband" and "Arriaga asks her if she married for love, to which she answers that she learnt to love Nelson". Their intimacy is being born of true caring, understanding and respect. Nelson posesses none of these virtues.

NM,
when Kend-Ho told Dances that if he was thinking of getting her flowers to not get her something so 'naco' she was certainly demeaning the flowers he sent to Bea..
I would interpret 'Naco' (or 'naca') as something (or somebody, and when it is the 'something' it is usually projecting their impression on the owner) even lower than 'ordinary'

NM, loved this..
Ah never mind. Let's sip some Baileys on ice and wait for the story to unfold.
yeah, this novela is one of those you take for face value, have fun with it and don't overthink, just enjoy.

Aribeth, thanks so much for this stellar recap. ITA with those who were glad the Angel stayed that hand of Aniballs, before he raised his hand to Ms Vikki and the look he gave Aniballs. Also loved what you said about the Angel's bedroom voice. Ayi, Ayi, that's really why I'd spill, lol.

Nikki and Guzmi are cute, but Guzmi is much more mature than Nikki. I am hoping Guzmi's actions rub off on Nikki.

I like when someone answers the phone on this TN and some other TN's I've seen, where you know it is bad news, cause their faces get that really serious look and the first word out of their mouths is QUE???? And sometimes the music. It is very funny most of the time. Sort of La Madrastra funny.Sometimes I almost expect Don Aniballs to be twirling his mustache lol.

So agree with what Diana said about the recap and NovelaMaven too. : )
