Por ella soy Eva #134 1/27/13: Least.. Professional... Conference... EVER

Mousse-boy, impractically dressed in white linen shorts, boat shoes, and a scarf (seriously, I'm reminded of that kids' ghost story with the girl who never takes off her scarf, and when she eventually does her head falls off), is really upset about all these accusations about him being Gay. Eva gives him a cute little pep-talk. It's ok, just be who you are.

More stuff with the kids. Blah. Jennifer's boyfriend gives Claudia a call and has some mean things to say about Eugenia.

Eva accuses Rebeca of being homophobic.

Helena kicks things off with a boring introduction. She lets them know that the presentation was changed at the last minute. Pluto looks nervous. Helena gets some really exciting music for what looks like a very dull presentation. Adri tries to inch up on Eva, with his arm around her shoulders, but is continually rebuffed.

Pluto makes his production and everyone looks grumpy and bored. Eva falls asleep on Adri's shoulder and snores heartily.

Then Pluti says he says he has a surprise! He has hijacked the powerpoint with photos of him and Helena, to the tune of a band that sneaks in to play sappy music. Ladies in weird striped dresses lay flowers at her feet. He tells the the crowd that all that he wants is to spend his whole life with her. He tries to sing along with the Mariachis (to much wincing). Helena looks like she just smelled some rotten tuna. Him: "I took the whole crowd to witness me begging you on bent knee for a second chance." Now she looks like she just stepped in dog poo (a mixture of surprise, revulsion, and oh-god-why-me). She lets him know (duh) that he has put her in a very uncomfortable position. Him: Just give me one word! Her: No. Then he starts shouting. Wow, so professional. Eva grabs him as he charges after Helena, but he gets away. Eva senses the awkwardness, and begs someone to say SOMETHING. Adri has her back and sputters out some silly nonsense and looks like  he's really straining, word by word. He has everyone stand up, hold hands, and lets loose on them with some pretty mortifying singing. I don't recognize the song, but my mom says it's the Ode to Joy in Spanish. Eva squeals along with him. Everyone looks perplexed at first, but then (starting with Santi) they realize that this is the best distraction they're going to get from the lunacy that preceded it, shrug, and go along with it.

When he gets Helena alone, Eva takes the opportunity to rag on Pluto a little more.

Some random old guy puts the moooves on Eva. Adri rushes up in a huff, ready to knock the guy's lights out, only to discover it's his brother! They chuckle a bit, but when the brother leaves, Adri makes it clear that he still considers him a threat.

Fernie wasn't actually paying any attention to Marcela's presentation, and she catches him.

Pluti has a bit of an apoplectic fit and turns all red about how everyone was laughing at him. They had good reason to laugh. Adriano: chill, dude (when has anyone ever calmed down after being told to chill?).

Eva brings up a tray of food for Helena, trying to get in a few more shots at Plutarco. Helena vents a bit. Eva brings up Juan, and Helena lets on that she might still have some room for him in her heart. Eva cheers up noticeably and pries for more info about that charming "ex difunto."

Rebeca to Tluti: I came to tell you three words - ja. ja. ja. Who could pass up such an opportunity to rub it in his face? Pluti is in a really dangerous place and starts to choke her.

Helena - I really love Juan, but he knows I hate lies, and he just lies all the time. Eva is overcome. She actually admits that she wishes, in her heart, that Juan could be at the party. Eva plotzes and suggests that dreams can come true. Eva accidentally mentions that she'd like to take a bath with Helena.

Now Pluto bribes the room-service-cart guy to let him into Helena's room (where she's happily soaking in a bubble bath). He finds out that Helena's got a copy of Antonia's presentation. She knows I plagiarized! I guess I will really never get another shot. Ya think?

Back in his room, Pluti angrily discusses this development with himself over a glass of booze.

Adri opens the second day of the conference by requesting NONE OF THIS NONSENSE OF GIRLS AND BOYS and proceeds to put a hand on Eva's knee. She takes it right off tells him to set an example. We get a brief and uneventful (but silly) montage of the days happenings.

Mad Dad gets a surprise visit from Lalo and Sylvia - she's giving him an undeserved opportunity to play with his grandkid. He's surprisingly chill, saying he'll take the kid to the park so she can collect her stuff from his house in peace and quiet.

Back to the conference - an Acapulco booster-guy goes on about how great Acapulco is (product placement?) as all look on adoringly (except for the Playa Majagua guy). Adri closes out the conference and looks hilariously proud of the applause he gets.

A barfingly cute scene of Mad Dad assuring Lalo that he is still loved even if gramps doesn't live with grandma.

Sylvia sadly looks through old photos of her and Eduardo. Tears. What a lame way to go out. The costume ball tomorrow looks like it'll be a lot of fun.

Stay tuned!

Thank you, Ezra. That was a lot to report in a very short time!

That "random guy" is Jaime Camil's father - hence all the little in-jokes.

You know who else (besides Helena and everyone) is going to be REALLY angry when Eva's identity is revealed? Renato. Eva's been badgering him about coming out of the closet for a while. AHEM JUAN DO YOU SEE ANY IRONY THERE??

Thank you for your speedy recap and hope that this week will be a better week for you.
I loved your title.
I laughed so hard during Pluti's pitiful power point to Helena that I cried. What a fool.
Yep, Renato will be angry for two reasons- because one Juan is his half brother and he has spent a lifetime of not living up to what JC was before the fraud accusation and the Juan/Eva disguise .

I have a hard time wondering how in the world they can resolve the whole Eva thing now. It's almost like Eva will have to 'vanish' or Helena will literally kill Juan and Sr. Adri will be destroyed. Yeah, I can live without the teeny-bopper drama too. Pretty good show, now please let MiMi show up in Acapulco w/ swimsuit and I'll be good. ;)

Thank you Ezra for the quick recap!

The writers besides being good are consistent. The group played "Sin ti" "Without You" again at the start of the Pluterco fiasco just as they played it when Bastardo was trying to talk Silvia to take him back. Then the group moved on to "Sin un amor" "Without a Love" where Plutarco hit his solo on the "there is no salvation." line. The lyrics speak for themselves and for his situation. I loved it.

Was that Zorro vs. Batman that I saw in the promos for tomorrow? It's got to be good.

Thanks Ezra. Loved your comparison of Renato & his constant scarf to the girl whose head falls off when she takes hers off. I have to take exception to your description of Renato's outfit. I think he looks hot in his tropical business casual shorts.

Thanks Julie for the info about Camil's father.

As always I loved snarky Rebecca, especially when she remarked that a friend is a small thing to lose for a good joke and her three words for Pluti "Ja.Ja. Ja" She did seem to get quite turned on by Pluti's strangulation. Kinky girl our Rebecca.

The conversation between Claudia & Daniel was ominous. She's really angry with him for taking the jke on Eugenia to such dangerous lengths. That shows some hope for her. But Daniel really threatened her when she said that someone should tell his parents. Big anvils for both Jenifer & Claudia. He's nasty business.

"Una palabra?? NO!! " Was my favorite line in tonite's capitulo. Just like PLuty to put Helena on the spot in front of her boss and in public. That's how he proposed to her the first time around....in front of her boss and her kid and her parents. Remember?

Thanks Ezra for translating the part where Eva invites herself to bathe with Helena. That was my second favorite part. Then of course, to get out of it, Eva does her Que? Que? Que? thing, did I hear that right?

Now that PLuty knows that Helena knows about the pliagarism, and he is toast, he is probably going to play some real hard ball. I've got to credit Marcello Cordoba for his versatility. He can play a scary bad guy and a bumbling fool really well! He is really good in this role.

I was really glad that Marcella had an opportunity to present. That was the highlight and the most professional part of this most unprofessional conference! Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm guessing that Helena worked it into her own presentation. Mentorship baby...gotta love it!

Just like Silvia to be thinking of Ex-Bastardo and bring Lalo over to cheer him up. And OMG, Ex-Bastardo is polite and gives her space to get her stuff!! That divorce sure worked fast! Who knew?

Tomorrow looks awesome with Batman and Zorro. Was that Helena and Juan making out in the pool? Oooooh ...I hope so!! Celebrating a fun capitulo with a glass of red. Gertie

Ezra: Fab recap. Really loved the whole thing and hope you are doing better this week.

With all of you about Pluti, how could he put her on the spot like that? What a Putz, and I bet he thought she would so cave! Ha! Glad she told him no.

Eva and Helena were so cute afterwards talking and laughing. I too liked the bath comment, too funny and how Eva got out of it.

I agree with Guerra about Renato's beach bidness wear, lol. That hawt tourist guy was wearing it too. Too cute, the two of them.

Daniel has got to go already. Now threatening Jennifer and Claudia. He needs the fork, like ASAP.

Marcela was good in her presentation even if she was a bit nervous. Fern was just stuffin' his face and when he wouldn't share with Marcela I wish she had pushed him into that fountain.

Julie: Thanks for the info on the random guy. That scene was so cute.

So Pluti is going to be the Dark Knight emphasis on the dark part. Helena looked like Cleopatra, and Juan I guess was Zorro. I can't wait for tomorrow night to see what happens. I just hope Pluti doesn't see JC and Helena in that pool.

Ezra, I loved the dog poo comment. Perfect description of Helena's face.

Jaime Sr makes a cameo appearance in almost all the shows where Jaime Jr is the lead, and every time I'm taken by surprise. I should've expected it since they're in Acapulco.

Well, Pluto finally has an answer for why Helena won't come back to him - because she knows he stole her project! Does this equation calculate out?
Stalker + obsession + impossible quest = desperation/murder
e.g. "If I can't have her, nobody else can."

The previews, where it looks like Pluto sees Juan with Helena in the pool. It's probably just another tease that doesn't pan out. Then again, we're right on schedule for everything to come crashing down, and we expect it to happen at the masquerade... just maybe the tease will be true???

I finally read the weekend's comments, and I'm sorry I wasn't in on the discussion.

Spotting a great TN? I hate the dark ones. I can never judge by the first week or two; they're always good in the beginning, and then many go dead thereafter. What I love is ones with good plot progress. In too many, the plot progresses for the first three weeks, then comes to a screeching halt, and doesn't budge again until the last three weeks. Or it goes into an endless loop. I HATE THAT!!

PESE is an exceptionally good TN, and not just because I'm such a big Camil fan. In part because it's a Colombian script. Some very good material has come out of Colombia - they do a great job of plot development.

Jarifa, since you like watching TNs from the past, look for Corazon Salvaje from.. 1998? 1999? The one with Eduardo Polomo. On my list it's one of the two greatest of all time.

Annick, I haven't seen any of Tacones de Eva, but I'm not surprised that it was more subdued. JE Abello who plays the lead is very calm and subdued by temperment, whereas Camil has been bouncing off the walls since birth. It's interesting that with such opposite temperments, they played the leads in both this script and Fea.

The pool scene reminded me of the pool scene between Don Fernando and Lety. But of course I had LFMB on my mind anyway after seeing Jaime Sr.

I kinda think the pool scene might be for real this time, but only because it looks as though Pluti catches them. On the other hand, that might just be clever editing. Maybe he's seeing and reacting to something completely different. (They used to fake us out like that all the time during Familia.)

I wonder what Pluti will do now that he knows that Helena has the real thesis. Will it be as Paula said -- from obsessed lover stalker to save my butt murderer stalker? Or will he throw Helena (and Eva/JC) off by putting the blame on someone else? (Rebecca? Adriano? Mendoza? Juan Carlos?

The party tonight looks like fun. I too wonder-- will Pluti find out that Juan lives? Or was the preview another fake?

Güera

Paula, thanks for the recommendation. I will put it on my list.

Jarifa

Thanks, Ezra! What a fun episode -- and you obviously had fun recapping it. :)

Guera, did you catch Rebeca's comment about going back to her room for the whip and handcuffs? Ai ai ai!

I, too, thought Renato looked ridiculously cute in his beach-convention outfit. And the smile he had on his face after Eva teased him about Gabriel was adorable.

Can't wait for tonight's party! It's going to be a blow-out!

Oh, and that Fernando is getting on my last nerve. Santiago was more excited about Marcela's presentation than he was -- and his telling her afterward that it was "adequate, but had some problems" was infuriating. Can we have an anvil for him, please? Like NOW?

Blue~~~ Some of us have been waiting for that Anvil for Fern like yesterday. He is totally clueless and so resents his wife's success.

mb~~~ Welcome. I too hope that Adri at least never finds out that Eva is Juan. I think Adri would keel over dead if he ever found out. Helena I think, will be the only other one, besides Mimi and Eugenia that know JC is Eva.

Blue Lass: "Adequate, but had some problems"... nice quote. That is also my prediction of how Marcela will someday describe her first husband!

And my prediction for Pluti is that at first he will try to pin the blame on other people - Rebeca, Onesimo, who knows who else. But when he realizes that everyone's already got some dirt on him, he'll just go free-range crazy.

On the other hand...

A while back, when Rebeca suspected that Eva was Juan Carlos, I wondered aloud why Rebeca was so hostile when it would have been far more expedient to join forces with JC/Eva against Pluti. Some wise person (Vivi?) said it's just not in Rebeca's nature to join forces with people. That's clearly true: ever since then, Rebeca has passed up several additional opportunities for a potentially profitable partnership (alliteration unintentional) that would have bought her some real justice. Instead she went for a one-sided, cynical, greedy alliance with Felix that backfired, and now here's that partnership with Onesimo where she has no intention of holding up her end of the deal. (Reminds me of another relationship in LFMB, but I digress.)

What surprises me is that they haven't yet begun to really hit us over the head explicitly with the irony of Rebeca's tactics, as they've done with the other storylines. Perhaps that's being saved for some particularly stellar occasion - like, by the time she realizes how foolish she's been, she'll be in serious trouble and it will be too late for the nice people to help her out even if they want to.

Another excellent recap and comments; I really look forward to these.

The one thing I noticed that hasn't been mentioned is that when Daniel was endlessly pressuring and pestering Jennifer he sounded, and acted, so much like father Fern flattering and simutaineously berating Marcela. Fern also easily slips into "mean mode" when he doesn't get his way. I hope that the recuiter coming for him turns into a job offer he can't refuse.

Thanks Ezra. I don't have much to add. This was a fun episode and I really enjoyed seeing Pluti embarrass himself in front of everyone. What was he thinking?

I'm afraid that now that he knows Helena is on to him, he'll pin the Fitsa scam on Helena instead of Rebecca as he is planning. Then both Helena and JC would have been framed for fraud at the same company, and that might make for an interesting story turn-- especially for how Helena feels about JC.

I agree that Renato looked adorable in his business beachwear.

Tonight's costume ball looks to be a lot of fun.

Sue - what was really scary to me was Daniel threatening Claudia. Even scarier was her "go ahead and try it" attitude. She might be overestimating her power. However, she could teach Jennifer a thing or two about attitude. Yeah, it's possible to have too much attitude, and Claudia could easily grow up to be a Rebeca if someone doesn't show her a better way. But it's helpful to have some attitude.

What I really LOVED, though, was how, in the first 15 or so minutes of the episode, one woman after another resisted some potent bullying tactics.
