Por ella soy Eva #129 1/21/13: What DO all Women Want?

***Sorry everyone, this is a pretty poor recap. I got some really bad news about 5 minutes into the show and couldn't focus at all for the rest of it. My bad.***

Aha! Mousse boy reveals that Claudia had switched the medicines. In fact, he admits that he was an accomplice. Juan's mom: "Poor child, her heart is "full of hate."

Bad dad is finding out that his wife doesn't even want to take his stuff - she just wants out!

Santi gets his divorce and watches Angelica leave in her chauffeured red sports car. "If you want to see me, just turn on your tv!"

Then we come to a conversation between Eva and Helena that sparks the question of what all women want - Helena mentions that all of her doubts and reservations about Juan stem from the fact that she's not sure he has that one thing that all women require from a man. Eva is desperate to find out what it is that JC couldn't give her. "You know, you're a woman, it's that one thing that we all know we need!" haha, he's so perplexed he tries to guess. Sex? Money? Shoes?

Then Eva makes Adri guess what it is. Adri is thinking along the same lines Juan was. Sex? No. Uh... Honesty and sex?

Dagoberto gets turned down by Mimi, but that doesn't deter him. He sneaks back in and snoops around in her house for dirt on Eva.

Ezra, sorry about your bad news. It's perfectly normal to be distracted when something like that happens.

JC was pretty funny, questioning everyone to discover what women want. People have been trying to find that answer forever.

Marce found Toni's real thesis! It finally comes to light! Now Helena can research the difference between the two. I like the parallels that often happen on this show. Marce/Helena were looking at the two versions of the thesis and Dogbert was looking at the two versions of Eva photos. (And there's always the two versions of Modesto's family.)

Forgot to say (as a retired librarian) that it was good to see a librarian at the university be the agent to give the thesis to Marce.

Sending you love and light, Ezra. Thanks for managing to get us started on this new capitulo.

Even *I* understood what Marci said to Helena: "la tesis de Dona Antonia es diferente." YES! And Helena has Pluty's edited version and Antonia's version in her hands and she is going to see how her own original work was plagiarized. Awesome. She should trace it back to PLuty, but she may want to be careful because this is the boss's little sister...now deceased. The implication would be that Antonia plagiarized Helena. That is something Adri won't want to hear. At least now she has both Juan and Eva to discuss this with before taking action.

It was hilarious when Eva was showing Adri some leg. This Eva and Mendoza seduction thing is going to be a hoot, but I think PLuty is going to try to get Eva in trouble with Adri.

What did Mendoza say to PLuty that got PLuty so upset he almost threw Mendoza out of his office? Gertie

Ezra~~~ I too am so sorry about your bad news, but you did a terrific job on the recap.

La Paloma~~~~ So with you about Marcela being the one that got the real thesis. I am glad in a way Fern ripped up the "supposedly" correct thesis, or this would have gone unoticed, about the real one I mean. So glad now Helena can compare the two.

I hated the fact Dogbert went snopping in Mimi's room. I thought for a minute he had gone in Eva's room, then he would have known for sure. I hope Mimi can stop him from whatever he has planned. That dude is just bad. He hasn't changed at all.

Wow, Eugenia actually slapped Claudia. I was kinda glad she did it, even though Eugenia regretted it as soon as she did it. I think Eugenia also doesn't want Claudia to go to that boarding school. I wonder what is going to happen to Claudia now. Did Eugenia think that Claudia was going to kill herself? Is that why she called the doc? I didn't catch all of that.

So Silvia wants nothing from Bastardo! Yay for Silvia. I am so happy she is moving on, but the question is will Bastardo allow that?

Pluti is soooo over the top. Yelling at Mendoza. And Rebe too yelling at Felix to get her another copy of that disc or she'll make sure he's fired. What a beyotch.

Loved how Eva was flirting with Mendoza and getting him to relax and laugh, and flirting with Adri too, I thought he would pass out when he saw her leg, lol. Too funny. Adri is so jealous too. They are very cute.

Good riddance to Angie, but I have to say Santi is really starting to like Lucia with her lingere laying around, her in her robe and she didn't realize he was there, and also at the office when she left he was staring at her behind, lol. I think he is feeling a little bit attracted to her.

Gertie, I think Mendoza either said that it was the same trying to seduce Eva as it was for Pluti to seduce Helena or I think Mendoza threatened to seduce Helena himself. I didn't hear all of it, but Pluti sure was pithed!

Thank you for the recap. Sorry you're having a rough night.

We have 33 caps left. I could be wrong, but I think we're in the final sprint, and it started Friday. Just look at the cluster of important developments between Friday and today. Have you ever seen this many developments in just two caps, other than a major transitional episode?

* Claudia's gig is up.
* Dogbert, a bad guy, knows there's some fraud regarding Eva. You know he'll cause trouble.
* Santiago is divorced.
* Santiago feels an attraction to Lucia.
* Ed's divorce is nearly finalized, and he's considering Sylvia's needs, not his own.
* Helena admits to Eva that she wants JC passionately.
* The fake thesis is revealed.
* Mimi confronts Adriano directly.

The way they are playing up the 25th anniversary shindig, I suspect that will be the big pivotal point. Probably Helena will discover that JC is Eva.

Thanks for getting us going, Ezra! I'm sure we can fill in the rest -- we have the rest of the day... ;}

What set Pluti off was Mendoza saying the 25th anniversary bash would be both a good time for him (Mendoza) to seduce Eva and a good time for him (Pluti) to try to win Elena back. Pluti didn't like him speaking so casually about his breakup. (Mendoza: "Dude, everyone KNOWS.")

Dago tried Eva's room first but couldn't pick the lock. Whew!

The blue dresses were funny when Eva/JC was quizzing them about What Woman Want. They couldn't agree about anything, and finally one of them says, "Well, I was handcuffed to a bedframe once" in this really wistful way. EEEEEK.

P.S. Do I need to understand this thesis thing? Or shall I just content myself with knowing it's important?

Hey Ezra, sorry about your bad news.

Blue Lass, Helena asked to see Antonia's thesis, and Pluti had a fake one made up so she wouldn't realized he actually had stole her proposal for Playa Majagua. The fake thesis was very similar to Helena's original proposal, so she would think it was coincidence that GI was doing the same thing she had originated. It's another lie she's discovering was told her her by Pluti, and it's pivotal in showing her that it wasn't Juan who stole her idea- although that HAD been Juan's original intention in seducing her. So it's understandable that she doesn't trust Juan. He did nothing but lie to her when they met.

Madelaine, Eugenia and Chepina broke into Claudia's room and found her holding the bottle of pills she switched, looking as though she was going to take them. It did appear as though she was considering suicide. Modesto is completely useless. When Claudia became upset at Renato's revealing all she had done, and Modesto turned to Eugenia and asked, Satisfied, woman?" I hated him as much as Bastardo.

Eva stroking her legs in front of Adriano to drive him wild was hilarious. This TN is rather bold in the places it will go.

Ezra- I hope that the bad situation has resolved itself and that you are doing ok. Thanks for giving us a recap, even with that going on.

One correction-- Renato didn't say he was Claudia's accomplice. He said he didn't know who it was. We know it's Daniel.

Yay! The real thesis has appeared. It doesn't seem that Helena's going to make the logical leap that Pluti must have been the one to come up with the falsified one. Hopefully JC and Eva can lead her down the right path.

Yes, Eugenia thought that Claudia was contemplating suicide. The doctor also seems to think this is a real possibility.

Thanks for the clarification on the thesis, Ithabill. I've never seen a TN in which academic work figured so prominently.

Renato also seemed to say - I didn't catch this until the second viewing - that he had "called" ("llamé") to spill the beans on Claudia. Does that mean Modesto already knew she was guilty when he was questioning her? That's the only thing that makes sense, since he threatened her with the internado even though she didn't confess.

Thanks, Ezra. Sorry about your bad news. :(

I'm soooo behind on recaps it isn't funny, but I just have to ask:

All of a sudden Bastardo's feeling philosophical and even sort of contrite? What the heck was in that coffee he was drinking, and where can I get some?? (His friend said the coffee tasted awful, so I'm just wondering if some little elf spiked it with wisdom dust or something!)

I was also pretty excited that after all the lengthy buildup, Antonia's real thesis was found so easily. Who would have guessed that Fernando's egotistical temper tantrum would end up being good for something?

Thank you, Ezra, for doing the recap inspite of your bad news. You recappers are something else!

Madelaine-- What I got from the Claudia situation was the same as you: that Eugenia called the doctor because she thought Claudia was going to commit suicide. I don't think we missed anything. Maybe this will be the start of something good happening between Claudia and Eugenia.

I loved Angelica delivering the final insults to poor Santi: the suspender snap and letting him know she sold his motorcycle. Her hanging out of the car and yelling as it pulled away was priceless.

On a more somber note, Pluterco planting the seed of doubt about Mendoza's seduciton abilities and Eva's resolve in Adriano's mind did not go unnoticed by Adriano. Adriano quickly took up the Shakespearean role of Othello and called Pluterco Iago who in the origianal play poisoned Othello with doubt about the fidelity of his wife Desdemona which ended with her death at Othello's hand. Adriano said he would kill Mendoza and that there would be blood if he dared to seduce Eva. The writers never cease to amaze me.

And of course, there was JC/Eva's search for "that thing" that all women want and that in particular is holding Helena back from reconciling with JC. It was so funny watching JC/Eva making the rounds and being so perplexed by it all.

Jarifa

Jarifa, great catch on Iago. I never would've heard that!

Blue Lass, I'm pretty sure you're right, it made no sense that Modesto was certain of Claudia's guilt. They must've cut a scene where he got proof, and Renato's mention of a call fits the bill.

Here's what's significant about the fake thesis: it's Helena's first hard evidence of Pluto's really rotten deeds. So far all she's seen is that he told her son to cheat to win and to resort to violence, and he went over her head on PlayaM. That's enough to make him not husband material, but not enough to classify him as a desgraciado. Now, if plot armor doesn't get in the way, she'll realize it was he who stole her life's work and her future. The theft hurt her deeply and sinks far lower than the macho crap of his first three revealed sins. Add to that his creepy aggression because she dumped him, and maybe she'll start believing that he's a rotten guy like Juan says. Except, of course, if plot armor gets in the way.

Re: Santiago. Of course there was the reaction to Lucia's bloomers. But did you catch his reaction at the office? She did the fingertip-bump and walked out the door. He looked fondly after her, then caught himself, like, "HUH? That's Lucia! Why am I reacting to LUCIA that way?" (Remember Don Fernando in the bathroom? "Why do I care about my necktie for LETY?") We all know why.

Paula H.: thank you for the LFMB parallel--it made me smile!!

Jarifa

Here's one that really puzzles me. Especially as everything is piling up for the final weeks. Will the world find out how Antonia died? In shock and agony because she found Pluto in bed with Rebecca, then they ridiculed her mercilessly, then Pluto screamed that he always found her revolting.

The only ones who know are:
1. Antonia who is dead and didn't have time to write a diary entry between the discovery and her death.
2. Pluto who of course won't say anything. But could his downward spiral go so far that at some point he rants aloud about Antonia, and someone overhears him?
3. Rebecca who bore almost as much guilt. She was in bed with Pluto, she planned to share Pluto's "booty" from the inheritance, and she let loose the first barrage of poisoned words against Antonia on her final day. To publicize Pluto's guilt would reveal her own.

But I can't help thinking that Rebecca will indeed reveal how Antonia died. And I propose that it will involve Onessimo. Those two, between them, know ALL Pluto's crimes. What if Pluto decides that Onessimo is too dangerous to be allowed to live? I can imagine a scenario where Rebecca reveals her own guilt to rescue Onessimo from murder by Pluto, because she has feelings for him. Then Rebecca and O. stroll off into their happily ever after.

Thanks Ezra for following through even after your bad news and thanks to everyone for filling in the details.

Good call on the Iago comment. I was curious because the captions said "Diego" and I didn't catch the difference between what was said and what was captioned. Very clever of the writers.

I'm so glad that the thesis is out. Still it isn't a direct line to Plutarco. She now knows that SOMEONE ginned up a phony thesis -- but that doesn't automatically point to Plut-asco. I hope that Eva/JC can lead her in the right direction.

I don't like the way this Dogbert stor is going. Now he knows that the "Eva" at the pension is not the Eva from Mimi's photo memories -- and he knows that the pension really belongs to the missing Eva and that Mimi has only her madrina's letter saying that since there has been no news of Eva she is sure that Eva would want Mimi to have it. She has no legal title.

Will the real Eva show up? And will her presence help or hinder JC in his effort to give up the Eva persona and win back Helena?

Güera

Thanks, Ezra, and sorry for your bad news.

Thanks to all you recappers. I wasnt' able to watch/read recaps for a while and I appreciate being able to keep up with all that is happening.

The editing last night was unbelievably bad! Usually you can't tell when they are chopping things up.

I was sorry to see Angie go. I always enjoyed her scenes. It's fun to watch Santi and Lucia, though. I don't think we've seen evidence of her looking at him like he is looking at her yet.

The Eduardo story is perplexing. His house is certainly neat and clean now anyway.

Blue, Bill, and Jarifa~~~ Thanks so much for clearing those up. About the phone call Renato mentioned, Claudia had actually called him for help about finding Eugenia when Daniel took her off and didn't bring her home. I think that may have been what he was mentioning about the phone call. He never called Modesto at all. He came to the house and talked to Claudia and that's when she told him what she had done to Eugenia's pills. I am surprised that Renato actually likes Eugenia. She seems to like him too, despite the circumstances. Modesto really needs that fork!

Thanks so much Blue Lass and Mad for explaining the minor tiff between PLuty and Mendoza.

I agree that this Thesis thing is pivotal and thanks to Bill for a great review of its backstory.

Loved how Jarifa brought out the Shakespeare parallels. A bunch of you have been sharing things that have gone right over my head and I want you to know how much fun it is to get clued in on those things!!

Julie I agree that Bastardo turned around unexpectedly fast. Maybe instead. Of the 8 o'clock coffee he had a cup of 180 coffee. (Ok that was bad...)

Paula I too want Antonia vindicated. My guess is at the very end there will be a bunch of finger pointing among the bad guys after anvils fall. Based on my limited tn experience, that happens...but it wouldn't be a tn if they didn't leave a few unanswered questions. Arent tns known for that ......what with the fast paced schedules they keep? I also wonder if Helena will ever find out that she was poisoned by Rebecca. Gertie

Thank you Ezra for recapping even though you had to deal with some bad news. I will try to put a smile on your face tomorrow night.
The Othello reference was on point. Was that Oneismo getting beat up on tonight's coming attractions?
I was glad to see that tacky Angelica leave. "Dog"Berto needs to go back from where he came. For someone who is supposed to be job hunting he has a lot of time to snoop. He needs to be put on a short leash!

Julie asked "Who would have guessed that Fernando's egotistical temper tantrum would end up being good for something?" It seems that PESE rarely lets any action go to waste. So many things interlock and work together in the plot here. It's delightful to have a strong foundation for the wonderful actors to play on.

Julie, was it you who did so much analysis of La Fea the second time around? I haven't been back to look at the recaps.

Eva showing some leg to Adri was really funny. He's a total prisoner of love!
