Por ella soy Eva #122 1/10/13: I'm Not That Chained Up Little Person Still in Love with You.

And I grew strong, and I learned how to get along.

Helena has called Plutarco to come to a restaurant to have a serious talk.  "Why are you being so mysterious?" he asks her.  After stumbling over her words, she starts by saying he hasn't been honest with her.  "Dishonest?  Me?" he asks ingenuinely.  He says he only loves her.  Ya. ya, ya, she doesn't want to talk about that now.  She admits she hasn't been honest with him either.  She doesn't feel for him what a woman about to marry someone ought to feel.  And for that reason it's better if they end their relationship.  "Is this a joke?" he asks her.

Eugenia is reliving her glory days in the theatre in her mind when the Claudia brat comes in and mocks her.  "The world has forgotten you forever," she tells Eugenia, "forever."  Eugenia isn't rattled.

At home Fernando tells Marcela he misses his friends at GI.  "You will make new friends at your new job," she tells him.  The doorbell rings and it's Daniel, who Ferni welcomes like he's the best thing since sliced bread.  Marcela leaves, and Ferni makes the two of them a manly breakfast of raw eggs.  Daniel is reluctant but Ferni presses the glass on him.  Ferni wants to talk to Daniel's father when he gets back from his trip, and he's surprised to hear that Daniel didn't know his father was away.  The truth is that Daniel hardly ever sees him.  That's why Ferni's family is like a family to Daniel.

Silvia is meeting Bastardo at a restaurant.  He has brought her flowers (nice ones this time) and has the band play Silvia's favorite song.  He is all dressed up.  He brings up happy memories for the two of them and is begging for her forgiveness for all the damage he has done to her.  He can be a human being.  Who knew?  Silvia is quiet.  She kind of looks like she's in shock.

Helena tells Pluti that this is no joke and she's thought about it a lot.  Pluti can't accept it; he knows she's nervous about the wedding and tells her to take all the time she needs.  Pluti thinks all this is because of Juan Carlos.  He gets mad, cracking that shiny veneer to briefly reveal his true self, and reminds her that he got her a job when she was broke, he got Lalo back for her, all with his help.  She gets mad in return and accuses him of doing it all to get something in exchange as though she's a trophy or a prize.  She gets up to leave and Pluti begs her to wait.  He tells her she and Lalo are everything to him.  This sets Helena off, and she shouts at him that if Lalo is so important then why did Pluti teach the boy to lie to win a medal he didn't earn and to fight with another boy to solve his problems.  Dude.  Busted.

Jennifer tells Daniel about Ferni being fired from GI for stealing money.  Daniel is surprised but won't tell anyone.  The Claudia brat calls him.  She can't count on Kevin to get the job done against Eugenia and she wants Daniel to handle it today.  He lies to Jennifer about who called and where he's going.

Eva and Mimi are talking in the pension.  Mimi apologizes for calling JC/ Eva "mamacita," but Eva says, nah, it's OK.  Dagoberto shows up with flowers for Mimi.  He calls her Mimi LaRosa, la mas hermosa.  awww.  He asks to be introduced to this beautiful woman (Eva) who is introduced as Mimi's cousin.  Dagoberto once again makes his plea to Mimi about how he's sorry for the past and she's the one he loves.  He promises to brings her roses, after her last name, every day to prove his sincerity.  She says it's a good thing she wasn't named Lobo, Vaca, or Toro, or the pension would be filled with animals.  Eva laughs at the joke.

Pluti tries to justify his actions with Lalo, saying he was only trying to show the boy how to defend himself, and his intentions were good.  Helena stands her ground and insists that the wedding is off.  She tries to return her engagement ring, and when Pluti won't take it she puts it in his shirt pocket and walks away.  He has his usual slack-jawed expression.

Bastardo notes that Silvia hasn't said anything all this time he's been making his plea.  She is sorry but her memories are sad and filled with pain.  He tells her to name one thing that can't be changed with his love.  She replies, "the son you seem to have forgotten."  The one she lost because he hit her.  He would be a man now.

While the Claudia brat hangs on him, the Daniel devil calls Eugenia to arrange for a chauffer to come pick her up for an audition.  Daniel wants payment- he's not Kevin- and he tries to swoop kiss Claudia.  She avoids it but stays close enough to imply it could be his reward.  The two of them are like a younger, less formidable Rebeca and Plutarco.  They annoy me.

Bastardo suggests to Silvia that they ought to make a new beginning and he proposes taking a trip to Europe.  Helena could help.  Silvia smiles in a bittersweet way.  She waited 30 years for Mad Dad to get his crap together.  She  thought many times of leaving him.  It's too late for any of this now.  She no longer believes in him.  The scene is immensely sad, but Viewerville is relieved at the outcome.

The Daniel devil shows up at Eugenia's dressed as a chauffer.  Chepina is nervous and doesn't want Eugenia to go, but Eugenia is ready for her close-up, Mr.DeMille.

Silvia and Helena are talking at home, each calm and happy with their decision to break away from their relationships.  Although this decision has taken years, Silvia is sure of it.  Helena isn't going to tell Lalo just yet about not marrying the Putz, and Silvia counsels her to be careful with how she tells him.  This scene flashes back and forth with Pluti, picture him with a humpback, drooling and pawing over Helena's picture and swearing to himself that he will never let her go, whatever it costs (uh-oh).  My precious, *gollum*

The Daniel devil drives Eugenia far and leaves her off in front of a shelter in a seedy part of town, telling her it's the studio.  Eugenia goes in, and it's full of homeless people who Eugenia assumes are extras in the production.  The scene quickly becomes distressing and surreal, as we see the people through Eugenia's clouded eyes.  Although in real life they appear to be concerned for her, and one of them even recognizes her, through Eugenia's eyes it's like a zombie movie with strange people coming at her from all directions.  She drops her purse and flees from the shelter.

Mimi is confused and can't decide if Dagoberto is sincere.  JC worries about it, but perhaps Dagoberto is like him and trying to change.  Mimi says the difference is that JC didn't get Helena sent to prison.  He asks if she still feels something for him, and Mimi says that feeling is for Adriano.  Dagoberto took advantage of Mimi when she was young and in love with him; she even tried to have a child with him.

Eduardo is home alone realizing what he has lost.

Jennifer tells her parents that maybe the Claudia brat thinks she's too old for Kevin, and Marcela worries she'll break his heart.  Ferni hints about another woman (the hooker, Candy Sweet) too old for Kevin.  Jennifer asks, "What woman?" but Marcela tells her never mind.

Helena calls Eva to tell her she broke off the engagement to Plutarco.  JC does a silent dance of joy and returns to the phone with a calm Eva voice, "ah."

Daniel and Claudia are yukking it up about the trick they played on Eugenia,  and he tells her he left Eugenia in a horrible place.  Claudia realizes he hasn't brought Eugenia back home and gets upset.  She begs him to go find her, and once again he wants 'payment.'  Rat bastard.

Eugenia is wandering the streets in the dark, upset and crying.

Avances:  On the street Helena is holding Eugenia when Juan Carlos approaches the two of them.  A police car pulls up.

Thank you, Bill!

Oh, Claudia's upset? Seriously?? How did she think her little prank was going to turn out??

Thanks Bill for a nicely done recap that was loaded with events. I hope Eugenia left her cell phone in her purse and one of those homeless people calls Juan or Eva. Daniel *is* a devil and along with PLuty deserves a thorough butt kicking!
Good for Silvia for standing her ground. I'm also glad that Helena stuffed the ring back in Pluty's shirt.

PLuty is going to play dirtier now...as if that's possible. Eva, Juan, and Helena are going to have to do better work exposing the fraud than they are doing now. At least Marcella can be a new accomplice if she spots the inconsistencies in that thesis.

A bit unrelated ,but do any of you Jaime Camil fans know what he was doing in LA last week? He was interviewed on the local LA Spanish channel and he was wearing what appeared to be an LAPD uniform. Maybe it was for a role filmed here. Gertie

Do they have military school in Mexico? Send Claudia asap. Daniel should just be in jail. Claudia at least has her reasons to hate Eugenia, bratty and wrong as they are. But Daniel is just doing this to be mean. It's fun for him to be a complete jerk. Jerk (and other swear words).

When the idea of a mismatch comes up, our society tends to measure it in terms of looks. Certainly Plutarco and Helena aren't a mismatch in this way, but rather in terms of personality. She is SO good, and he is SO selfish, that their relationship really is quite unrealistic. I think that if he had tried to raise himself because of knowing her, the show would have been more interesting, more nuanced. I'll continue to complain about cardboard villains. Really, the only relatable thing he has done is to tell Rebeca he's not a killer.

Thanks, Ithabill -- great recap! Loved the Gloria Gaynor, Tolkien, and Sunset Boulevard nods.

I haven't watched yet, but I'm looking forward to catching up this weekend. I think I'll FF through the Eugenia scenes, though.

Ithabill, thanks for the great recap and reminding us about Sunset Boulevard. Sadly, Eugenia has reminded me of Norma Desmond especially with her ever present fondness for turbans. I love her but wish she would update her grand dame look just a bit.

Paula H., Eduardo and Silvia went to La Comidilla. Wasn't that the same place that El Cuartel always went to in LFMB?

Gertie, Camil got an award last week from the City of Los Angeles for his work. It sounded like he is living there.

I loved how they constructed the scene at the restaurant with Eduardo and Silvia with the small group playing all of the Latin love song standards. It was especially poignant when Eduardo was pleading with Silvia and they were playing "Sin ti" (Without You) in the background. This again shows what a talented group these writers are.

I could not take Plutarco with his purple shirt unbuttoned AND the sweater thrown over his shoulders. So slick!

I was very happy with the reaction from our three smart chicas in this episode: Helena, Silvia and Mimi who did not give in when any of them could have.

Bill- This is a terrific recap. ITA about Gloria Gaynor, Sunset Boulevard, and Tolkien. I feel so sorry for Eugenia. I can't wait to see how Helena finds her. Daniel is just poor evil. At least Claudia wants him to go back and find her, which really surprised me. I thought she would have rather just left her there.

I too agree about the three women and their choices. So glad they are standing firm.

Wasn't Pluti just way over the top, after Helena had broken off with him, with that kissing and practically sliming over Helena's picture? And he wants to have her there all alone???? He never planned for Lalo to be a part of their life at all. He would have shipped poor Lalo off to military school or boarding school even before the honeymoon I think. Pluti is obsessed with Helena.

Oh, half awake meant pure evil, not poor, lol

Jarifa, thanks so much for answering my question about Camil and his award. Very cool!

Besides PLuty showing up to talk to Helena in his purple, unbuttoned shirt wi.sweater ..so slick...he had just come from having sex with the Chupacabra ....downright greasy.

He deserved the ring in his pocket and a zapato up his butt!
(Of course Helena was polite enough not to do the latter .)

Gertie

Perhaps Eva will give Pluti one of her pointy pumps at some later date. Actually I think there will be a waiting list of men and women wishing to donate their zapatos for this worthy cause.

Thanks so much for his Ithabill--very witty. Interesting analysis of cardboard villains. Truly everyone else in this show is rather nuanced -- only Plutarco is evil through & through.

Claudia surprised me too -- she didn't mean to harm Eugenia as much as this. Maybe we are even seeing the first glimmering of humanity in her too. As for Daniel he deserves the same zapato up the butt as Pluti.

Muchas gracias Ithabill! I loved seeing Helena and Silvia stick to their guns and dump the bastards for good. Yay!

And I am very grateful that they actually showed us real previews this time (they usually don't for this show), because I was getting really worried that we'd have multiple episodes of Eugenia wandering the streets in confusion. That Daniel is evil. I hope Claudia gets in huge trouble for this. I don't care if she "intended" for Daniel to bring Eugenia back home. Messing with her meds is enough to earn a place in hell, as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks Bill. Loved the title!

Well it looks like La Comadilla restaurant has gone upscale since the days when Lety and the cuartel ate there.

No time to read the recap or posts today. Julie, my personal anvil dropped: Sue is gone, and my days are numbered. I found out yesterday.

Thanks, Ithabill

Just a few weeks ago, before JC revealed himself to Helena at the beach, I was laughing at the comedy running through PESE. Last night I was glued by the drama! It was almost too much for one capitulo!

The break-up was so perfect, ending with the ring in the pocket.

Pluti's psychotic break; Here I was thinking he was just slimy when in reality he is crazy!

Eduardo's genuine attempt to win back lost love and his later sorrow.

Eugenia, confused and abandoned, by those horrid children! OMG!

Can't wait 'til tonight!

I hate it when anvils fall on people that I like. :(

Bill, thanks for the excellent recap and the opportunity to re-live this jampacked episode.

Bastardo tried, failed. So proud of Silvia sticking to her guns. Poignant to see him realizing what he lost.

Pluti gave an earlier hint of craziness with that photo of Helena, but really laid it on with a trowel last night. He is nuts and I'm afraid for Helena.

Daniel=no scruples whatsoever. He and Claudia are a couple of brats with overextended senses of entitlement. They need some hard core community service work and removal of all privileges.

Eugenia could do away with the turbans, but I still felt sadness for her. Waiting for Modesto's great solution for this latest situation--probably his usual nada.

If I'm not mistaken, Dogbert's wearing a familiar jacket... where have I seen it before? Was it FELS? Was it the Coyote who wore it, or was it that guy who was that woman's father... ugh I can't remember anyone's name from that any more...

Julie, Dagoberto's jacket did have several snakeskin panels. The jacket in FELS--Coyote or evil rapist and husband--had both snakeskin and snake heads on the shoulders. Can't remember any more details.
