Amores Verdaderos #77 Wed 2/27/13 Who Let the Dog Out?
"All marriages go through difficult moments," the good doc tells them. But right now their marital conflicts are affecting the emotional stability of their daughter. Nikki needs to feel secure within a harmonious family environment. That will help her on the road to recovery.
Labels: Amores
Dances with Bangs really had that Mr. Spock look going in this episode. I would swear the tops of his ears were pointy tonight!
I wanted to throw things at my TV screen every time Nelson touched Vikki. He's so disgusting that I want to barf every time he's on the screen.
OMG Cristina's 'makeover', what an epic FAIL. Would it be tacky to hope she gets run over by a bus? Soon?
In fact, I swear I saw anvils over Cris' head tonight, talking to Bea after she moved back in. It's possible now that Leo will show up at the apartment, go ballistic, and Cris get caught in the crossfire… No nasty divorce to leave a blot on our hero's C.V., all's well that ends well, etc. etc. etc.
I agree with you and all about that DOC. What a jerk. Yeah, stay together, suffer, and your daughter will be all better, tout de suite. Ugh!!! I like that Ms Vikki put her foot down with Eff-ful F'er and she told him no silky drawers for him, lol.
"Christine" was wayyyy over the top. Jealous for the Angel and now poor Lil Orchid, but I am sooo happy both Lil Orchid and Angel told her what her clothes really looked like. I hated those stripper spangly pumps. They were truly fugly, I must say. Cris has such a unique style all her own. The Ho knew this would pith the Angel off. You are right too, the only way the HO will eva get the billions is to hook up with Anyballs.
My favorites from your recap this evening are:
FATS
The intro letter and your answer
Vikki's silky drawers, no touchy, no feely, lol
I am still rolling with laughter over this most excellent recap.
I really like the format you chose for this with the intro letter and answer, so perfect. Thanks so much amiga for this wonderful, excellent recap.
The line "Keep your filthy paws off my silky drawers" is borrowed from tough girl Rizzo's song in GREASE, "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee" :)

Thanks so much! I think this episode was a gift -- all those goofy scenes cushioned the earnest center (Nikki goes to the doctor and we all get a lesson on her illness).
Doris:
Would it be tacky to hope she [Cris] gets run over by a bus? Soon?
That, my friend, depends on where you happen to be seated on the Patio. From my table -- totally cool.
Mads:
Speaking of Lil Orchid, I just loved the dress she was wearing. What a contrast to her Hot Pink Mama, huh?
Good point, Anon 1:19. But remember that technically, it's just suggested reading -- it's not required and it won't be on the Final Exam.
Besides, I doubt any one of the three is much of a reader. There will likely be Dish Latino on the island.
However we feel about the Angel, Vikky and Chris, Opalina has declared "The story has already been written". It makes it difficult for those of us who (despite Chris' flaws) continue to be emotionally invested. Her daughter really isn't her daughter but is her niece (and a hated Balvanera). Her husband (despite his protestations and resistance) is falling in love with someone else (her half sister). She doesn't know she Anibal is her father and that she has 2 sisters -both of whom she does not like. While we can only guess at what is going to happen, we all know it will not end well for Cris. I would prefer something happen before Cris' world comes crashing down around her and all of the veiled secrets are exposed.
Nelson. Despise. 'nuff said.
Cheering along with the patio as Salsero taps lightly into the realm of redemption.
doris: "No nasty divorce to leave a blot on our hero's C.V., all's well that ends well, etc. etc. etc." Still chuckling...
Madelaine: "stripper spangly pumps" - HA! Although a recent episode of "Say yes to the dress" (one of my guilty pleasures) had a similar pair a bride purchased for $4,000. Money can buy many things but not good taste apparantly.
So who is Nikki canoodling with in the dark tonight mentioning marriage? Francisco better tighten his belt, he is in for a bumpy ride (poor guy).
And yes. Question of the night: Will the Angel bust into Vikki's bedroom? Can't wait to find out.
Thank you Novela Maven. I cannot tell you how much you have cheered me and brighted my day!
Diana
Dances with Dippity-Do
Soon to be fallen Angel
Doesn't Dances look like a kid in a candy store now? I swear he looks more relaxed and at ease with his co workers than he ever did before. Liked the bro hug of Guzmi and the Angel.
Also liked Lil Orchid standing up to her Mama about going to Santa Rita. I think Lil Orchid was right to do this, she will be with her Papa after all. Besides Adri means her no harm.
About Adri, I really feel for her. I know she pushed Anyballs about, but ya know he so deserved that push. After all, he did lock her up at the hacienda when she was preggers, sent her boyfriend packing, stole her bebe, and then lied to her and told her the bebe died. If I were her, I would have really pushed him and I don't think I'd forgive him either. He needs to tell Adri the truth. So many secrets at that Balvanera Manse.
I felt so sorry for lil Balzac, but loved what he did to the Odio's shoe, lol. All she had to do was take a sanitary wipe, wipe off the shoe and she would have been good. She acted liked he pooped on the shoe, really, I wish he had : )
That phone call to the Balvanera Manse with Estephano and Jean Marie was too cute. Jean Marie was so over the moon, but poor Polita, being accused of the jacking, er eating the whole cake, for shame, Jean Marie : )
May 4F choke on Kendra's curls. Oh that man makes my skin crawl. Eee-eeew! (that is the Southern way to say it .... with two syllables...LOL)
You never lose your sense of humor Susanlynn. Hoping things get better quickly. God bless.
Diana
"Nikki's doctor has no clue what the marital riff between Vik & 4F is about. He probably thinks she mad cuz he leaves his socks on the floor again."
I didn't include the line in my recap but Nelson does whine to the doctor about Vikki's refusal to forgive him his "desliz," that is, his mistake, his slip-up, his marital indiscretion.
He has said this before. It's the Boys Will Be Boys excuse: "Don't blame me -- I slipped on a banana peel and fell right into her hoo hah!"
Yet another entry for the Book of Diana: Goddess of the Hunt --
"my mood had sunk about as low as Kendra's ethics"
I'm definitely going to steal that if I ever write the hard-boiled detective version of Wednesday Love.
As for who Nikki is "canoodling with in the dark" -- what a great phrase BTW -- my money is on "Tennis Anyone? Roy", Doris's son and Nikki's ex.
I know you've been having a rough time lately so I'm especially happy to hear that this silly show and our conversations about it gave you a few laughs. "Que the hell" indeed!
Michelle inspired by Salsero's look? Why not? There are worse role models (and several of them are on display in this episode.) :)
Mads & Doris:
I share your admiration for and anxiety about Balzac. I believe a table is being set up in his honor on the Patio right now. Several people have set down their Baileys and nerfazos and gone out to help Estéfano look for the little guy. Let's hope that when he is found, he is in better shape than Jean Marie's missing cake.
JM's "vapors" last night were a hoot My guess is that Jean Marie will be out and about, stumble upon and rescue pobrecito de Balzac, which sets up the opportunity for him to actually interact with his heartthrob.
I, too am worried about Balzac, being a dog mom myself! I hope Jean Marie does find him! Estefano is nothing like Odette. Maybe he will come to work for Vikki after this sad turn of events!
I just went back and added the line about the "desliz". Sorry to mislead you.
I'm always pruning these things back to keep them from being The Monster That Devoured CarayCaray. I glad you raised the issue so I could clarify it.
Teresita:
That's all I know about Amber ... well, I think her last name is "Luke" (no relation to Cris's new "luke") Maybe someone else has a tidbit to add? (It's ok to make something up -- that's what I do. Then I call it a "docudrama." Or should I say a "mockumentary"?
I wish those shells had spelled out d-i-v-o-r-c-e for JA.
Sad to see JA's marriage has become about as screwed up as Vickie's. Cris is her own worst enemy (that's just silly trying to forbid Lili from going to Santa Rita), but I feel for her. Her life's in transition and she's insecure stumbling trying to find her way -- and JA has neglected her.
I never FF through Chris cause her scenes are fun, though sometimes maddening. Some of the other women characters are just too "normal" to keep me riveted.
I wondered if the doc had a bribe from Nelson, but nope. Since Vickie could barely get Nelson to hug her before, I can see why she thinks he'll keep his word not to put on the moves once he's back in her bed. No way will JA not interrupt that mess.
"I wish those shells had spelled out d-i-v-o-r-c-e for JA."
Maybe they can use that idea in the country-western musical version of the novela!
" Some of the other women characters are just too "normal" to keep me riveted."
¿Neta, Niecie? Like ... um ... who is "too normal" on this show? Because I think I'd wait for the next elevator before getting in alone with any one of these fruitcakes...
... well maybe I'd get in an elevator with Miss Vikki. She inspires trust. In a sweet, goofy way.
Loved the letters, so totally true!
If they set up a table for Balzac I'm so going to go and sit there for what he did to Odette.
Chris just looked so cheap in that outfit, not her style at all.
Missed a couple weeks now, and just trying to catch up, can somebody explain it in a few lines what happened to/with Guzmi's wife? THX
Susanlynn: I believe we have known each other all of the 5 or so years I've been commenting. I've enjoyed each of our conversations tremendously. You never fail to delight! I adore your comments.
Niecie, NovelaMaven and I are drinking Bailey's (it's 5:00 somewhere) and laughing at "I wish those shells had spelled out d-i-v-o-r-c-e for JA". Yes, me too!
Diana
I hope Nikki will be forced to see a real shrink, not some dietician or medical doc who has nothing to offer except meds.
Quad F, you make me wanna puke every time I look into your bloodshot, watery, vacant eyes. Get your filthy hands off Vicki, and yes, I hope JA busts into the bedroom tonight. Quad F deserves a broken jaw and the inability to open his mouth for a few months---or choke on Kendra-Ho's curls!
I think you'll have plenty of good company at the Balzac table.
The Amber story:
Guzmancito met and married a woman named Amber Luke when he was living in the U.S. She broke his heart (we have no details on this) and they have been separated for a long time. But they never got legally divorced. Now Guz is trying to make that happen.
Hope that helps.
Hola Dona Gringuita:
So glad you liked the letters.
If I'm hearing what you're saying, Nelson Brizz makes you feel angry. :-)
perfection.
My favorite line (maybe ever):
"...clearly the guy is a pretty good internist who thought his psych rotation was a joke."
Carlos
You really had a good show to work with last night and your snarky lines show it well. I wrote down about ten things that were just hilarious but then thought that they were just to much to mention.
So just a few---I have a right to express my Neanderthal opinion---the streetwalker dress---the magic words "fried chicken." and Nelson is to keep his filthy paws off Vickie's silky drawers.
I fear that I will be going broke buying all of the autographed books
written by the Caray writers.
Texas---Your first novela? I remember my first entrance into novela land---I was hooked from that point on.
Things are moving fast---can't wait for tonight. Does the Angel open the door?
the gringo
"How are you going to keep them down on the farm after they've met a Ho." LOL
I blush. My face is pinker than Cris's hoochie mamma dress.
P.S. I am relieved to see your change of avatar. The world is indeed your oyster, my learned friend.
Gringo:
Have no fear. Dr. Carlos is on call for all our virtual emergencies :-) But it WAS a doozie of an episode, last night, wasn't it?
Everybody, listen up. ok???
I described the visit to the doctor in excruciating detail: the interview, the test findings, the diagnosis and the treatment. Forgive me. We know that we are going to get this information regurgi... um ... I mean repeated many, many times in the weeks and months ahead. I promise to refer to it in shorthand in the future. Come back to "Who Let the Dog Out?" for the full chapter and verse whenever you need to. ¿captas?
Finally its a pity but Kendra most likely won't take your advice yet the reality is the awful Anibal is the money ticket.
Glad to stop by and see so many old friends. Wow, Diana we've been at this for 5 years and now that I think about it, it might be longer than that. Time does fly with friends.
susanlynn - you and your family are in my prayers. Take care.
Poor Guzmi. I feel sorrier for him than for AB's Daniel. Guzmi hasn't had a taste of Nikki's cake yet, while Daniel has been able to enjoy all kinds of cake for several months.
Wish Nanette were here to give us the High Points and the Low Points of last night's episode.
I would count Estefano's call to JM as a HP
Balzac peeing on Odiette's shoes is also a HP (and she's one of the funniest villainesses in recent memory)
On the low end would be Vikki letting FFFullFailure (or is it 5-Fs now?--I've been away) back into her bed. Oh, you can tell Nelson is already counting on rolling over to Vikki's side of the bed as soon as the lights are out. How this is supposed to help Nikki is not FFFF's problem--he's just trying to preserve his $$$$.
Another low point is the disappeared cake. It's ruined now, no one would want to cut a slice off a cake that's been dug into and then hidden partly under the bed. Shame on Nikki--she wasn't thinking of the folks at the Servidumbre Table nor the Guardespalda Table on the Patio.
Excuse me, but until we met Opalina, I could believe everything the writers were typing at me. IMHO, they are just being lazy and using her to set us up for the aha moments to come. Why not just let them happen. Arriaga is fully capable of thought bubbles to explain himself to himself.
NV-Which table are you sitting at? I'm afraid the only way Arriaga can be left guilt-free to explore his feelings for Vick is for Cris to be sent to el otro mundo. Divorce wouldn't do it. OTOH, Cris has been so much fun, I'm going to miss her. Can Spirits join us on the Patio? I'm sure she'll have a great time skewering Kendra from the great beyond when she finds out what she was up to.
Anita, it IS a shame about the cake however, it looked far more appetizing at the party. It seemed to have morphed into a congealed, concrete slab, so perhaps we aren't missing anything.
Look forward to seeing everyone on Monday.
Diana
I apologize for not following up yesterday with my recap; my Internet connection crapped out soon after I finished it and was off and on the next day and I just went, "Whatever." Internet is still intermittent but hopefully improving.
Estafano's dog makes my gaydar alarm go off. There, I said it. I love Estafano, what a sweet and appealing guy. I assumed he was batting on Jean Marie's team (just because of the way they're presenting this storyline) but seeing the beret on that dog's head sealed the deal. The only question I have now is, how can Odioette possibly NOT know? LOL. Denial is indeed not just a river in Egypt!
Anyway, what a bruja Odioette was for dumping the dog outside! I'm going to assume that the dog will somehow find its way to Jean Marie's arms! (No spoilers!)
Agree about Christina. She's shooting herself in the foot. I thought Big Angel was the world to her. So why blow off his feelings so heartlessly? She's sabotaging everything.
Tonight's episode should be pretty good. I confess that I started to watch some of it online and all I can say is, "Must see TV!"
Thanks so much, amiga. I'm always happy when I can distract someone from doing actual work. :)
Anita:
Perhaps you could enlist Kendra herself to write to the airline on your behalf. What's that you say? She's just a fictional character? Drat. I keep forgetting that.
Personally, I'm fine with Opalina. I like my latino novelas with a sprinkling of magical realism.
Which table am I at? I like the Ikki's and the Ana's a lot. Nikki's table is the most fun. The bodyguards are great to look at but their conversation tends to be a little telegraphic.
You know we did bring back the departed to the Patio one day when we were in the Pits and all the beloved characters were dropping like flies. It was an oddly comforting exercise, as I recall.
What a bummer about your internet connection. Lucky for us that you were able to post your hilarious recap just in time!
Thanks so much for your generous comments.
I agree that, in the case of Estéfano, the writers have trotted out all the stereotypical markers that identify a character as gay: He is an unmarried middle-aged man with a domineering mother, an adorable little dog that he dresses up like a doll, a penchant for facials (he was at the spa), a job dealing with the fashion industry, an appreciation of fine cuisine, and a sweet disposition.
Wouldn't it be fun if he turned out to be a straight metrosexual? Well, okay, Jean Marie wouldn't think it was so much fun ...
So glad The Patio doesn't discriminate against the spirit world. It'll be nice to see Cris there. If Leo goes, though, how do we keep him out?
In any case, I get to come back and enjoy all the amazingly funny comments. You guys are fantastic. There is nothing more to say.
Susanlynn-- If you ever need a smile, you know you can always drop in here with your Caraymates.
Oh and this line: "Nelson is to keep his filthy paws off Vikki's silky drawers." He did indeed pull that crap with Annette and now he must pay!
I'm sure he TRIED to pull that crap with Annette -- but I KNOW he worked his way through the Pink Ladies. The sleaze.
(The metaphor only goes so far: next to Furry, Danny Zuko is a prince -- more like Frankie than F-man.)
:)
Thank you for the precious recap.
