Por ella soy Eva #149 2/18/13: Hailing Frequencies Open - Daniel Is a Twit!

Helena cancels a meeting w/ Juan - her Dad called and sounded like he actually wanted to see her, so off she goes.

Eugenia continues trying to be nice to the vile Claudia, who is now moping in bed. Eugenia asks if some of the misery the girl is feeling has to do with losing her virginity (huh?). Oh. It was that greaseball (Daniel, duh). . . who, big surprise, was remarkably inconsiderate. Eugenia lets her know that every human has their own value, which has nothing to do with what others think. I think it's a good sign that the girl got rid of the grotesque headband(s). She accepts a hug from Eugenia.

At Helena's meeting with Dad. He says the only thing they have in common is his grandson. He wants to schedule days for visitation. He browses through his calendar as Helena looks puzzled. Once that's wrapped up, he moves on to his real agenda - is his ex-wife seeing anybody? But he'll get no such pleasure from his daughter. This was a mostly useless interchange, but he gets some emotional music anyway.

Awww... Lucia misses another chance with Santi. But he wants to thank her from the bottom of his heart. She starts babbling about how they helped each other, but he moves in closer and kisses her on the cheek. She kisses him back on the cheek, and the two of them stumble around awkwardly. Whoops.

Santi has clearly switched over to the team of good-guys. He is now counseling Ferni on valuing his family and not necessarily being so desperate to get a job and get out of the house. Ferni isn't doing such a good job at listening, though, and wants to move in with Santi - he proposes alternating nights on the bed with Santi (I'll sleep on the bed one night and on the sofa the next).

Then, just as Santi is admitting to Ferni that he's got some real feelings for Santi, they see Sebastian (?), Lucia's Ex, with another girl. Santi moves in and punches him!

Marcela has stayed up late to lecture Jenni when she gets in. Jenni is unapologetic, and pulls the my-dad-is-a-bad-role-model card. She doesn't know whose side to take.

Santi gets a hilarious shock when he wakes up to find a snoring Ferni in his bed! he sadly moves to the tiny couch. OMG - what a nightmare - Ferni is a disaster as a houseguest. . . he's going to sleep all day and asks for money.

Ferni fails to impress Marcela when he yells at her for bringing up divorce. He storms out. Stupidly, she wakes up and cries when she finds him gone.

Why is Mimi leaving? She is super sad about it? Juan lets her know that she'll have a friend waiting for her, and very sweetly tells her to hurry back.

Oh no - Jenni is going camping with Daniel. Good lord, how can she be so blind. He is broadcasting CREEPAZOID on broad-spectrum, all channels. He says he wants to make her his. She agrees.

Santi is hilaaaariously awkward with Lucia when they meet at G.I., feeding the flames of blue-skirt gossip.

I love it when Eva uses her purse to beat up a chair to show Marcela how outraged she his about her caveman husband. She has many harsh words for the rascal.

Helena seems to have picked up on the Santi situation via blue-skirt-gram and she grills Luca, who doesn't reveal anything.

A wise Eugenia brings Claudia to warn Marcela and Helena about the sleazeball who just took her daughter into the woods. Marcela is very sweet - I'm as proud of you as if you were my own daughter! The four ladies decide to mount a search party! That's our cliff hanger for the day. See you next time.

Wow - a whole episode without Plutarco. Maybe he was on vacation?

Thanks, Ezra. Ah - no Pluto. I thought something icky was missing.

What I really liked about this episode was the way that Fernando's total uselessness was counterbalanced with Claudia actually going a step beyond the call of duty to let Eugenia know that Jennifer was next on Dirty Dan's to-do list.

Come to think of it, Fernando is getting worse. He's always been a bum, but as long as he was comfortable, his worst sins seemed to be sexism and taking his family for granted. But now we can see that he'll take advantage of anyone who lets him - even his best friend. And he won't lift a finger to ever help anyone - not even himself.

And somewhere in the middle, Ed and Modesto are exactly the same as they always were. I wonder, what takes more effort: staying the same, or becoming a bigger jerk?

Thanks for the recap, Ezra.

Fernando never wants to listen to a woman. Let's hope he's forced to listen to Santi and maybe some other guys about the need to improve. He's really taking advantage of Santi.

Hurray for the ladies' combining forces to bring justice to dirty Daniel. It did my heart good to see Eva purse-bashing him in the previews.

La Paloma

Thanks Ezra for this great recap. It was too funny about Santi and Lucia they just can't hide what they feel for each other, and loved the way Santi was trying to beat up Sebastian for trying to take advantage of Lucia, too cute.

Julie: I agree with you about Fern. He is taking advantage of Santi. Fern really has no where else to go, but should be doing something like looking for work. He needs to be responsible, which when was he ever? All those paper airplanes.

La Paloma: Agree with you too about Fern, he never ever listens.

I too can't stand that creepy Daniel and at least if Eva purse bashes him you know that is gonna hurt when she bashes him with it. Glad Claudia told Eugenia exactly who that was that took her virginity and that Eugenia called Eva and Marcela heard about it too. Maybe this will save Jennifer from having to go thru what Claudia did. I like how Claudia is trusting Eugenia now and is becoming affectionate toward her, like a daughter. I think Claudia is on her way to redemption.

As far as Ed and Modesto go, they still haven't learned anything. They are both stuck on stupid and they are so set in their ways, I wonder if they will ever change before the end of this TN.

Broadcasting Creepazoid on broad spectrum and blue-skirt-gram...these are technical terms. Awesomen Ezra!!

Still watching here. Eva just imitated some kind of animal and left Helena and Lucia in stitches!

I am so glad Eugenia had that good talk with Claudia. Claudia's information may play a key role in saving Jenni! I hope they save her in time!

So Ferni had to do his packing while his wife was still in bed. He couldn't do it in the middle of the day when she didn't need her sleep? She is ..after all...holding down two full time jobs now. alone : 1) raising the kids and 2)...in her new executive position. Oh heck, what am I saying she was working these same two jobs when the jackass was still living with her! Gertie

That was a wonderous recap as always! Did anyone else see the promo for Porque El Amor Manda? Hi,I'm Charly and have been reading your recaps for years to come. I would enjoy recapping for PEAM. Where is Blog Mom?
Do I need to check in with her?

Great recap, Ezra.
One teenager comes around (Claudia) and another one acts a fool-(Jennifer)
Yes, there was no stalking- oops Pluti in this episode- yay!!!!
If it is at all possible, Fernando gets more foolish by the day.
If you are interested in recapping the new novela- you can contact blogger mom at caray@mappamundi.com.

Thank you, Ezra, for your fun recap! I also couldn't believe a whole episode without Pluterco.

Not good supervision on what looks like to be a recipe from hell: a co-ed adolescent camping overnight field trip. Daniel and Jennifer have been off smooching way too long.

I think Jennifer's run in with Marcela should be agood reality check for Marcela who has done her daughter no favor by either explicitly or implicitly condoning her jackass husband Fernando's behavior all these years. Even if Fernando is rehabilitated by the end, Marcela would have to be stupid to ever trust him and take him back. Sometimes love is not enough. Wasn't there a bad song with that lyric??? :)

I loved Eva's elefanta imitations and her gracefully shuffling to her desk.

It looks like Claudia is going to have a chance with Eugenia pulling for her.

Gracias, Ezra. broad spectrum creapazoid. haha I think Bastardo's real intention was to have a heart-to-heart with Helena, but he chickened out. It makes perfect sense given their history. Silvia is clearly not going back to him. Other than that I do hope he and Helena find that place of healing.

Thanks so much Ezra!

Jarifa- I was thinking the same thing about the adult supervision. Where was it? It looks like tonight Jennifer gets to finally see what a creep Daniel is, and we get the pleasure of seeing Eva beat the punk to a pulp with her purse. I hope s/he put something extra heavy in there, like a rock.

Claudia is well along the road to redemption now. Good for her. I think that talk she and Eugenia had did Eugenia a lot of good. She was coming to the realization too that she had allowed Modesto to take away the things she loved and her self esteem. I think she will soon make a decision to dump the lump. Yay!

So now we have three marriages which can’t/couldn’t be saved—Santi-Angie; Bastardo-Silvia; and Modesto-Eugenia. What about our fourth marriage? Fernando and Marcela? The other marriages were easier to dissolve because the love had died or never been there to begin with. Plus, there were no young kids involved (just adult kids).

But Fernando and Marcela is a different story. There is LOTS of love there, although I don’t know how Fer hasn’t managed to kill the love Marce feels for him. They also have school aged kids who really want their parents together. I have never been a Fer fan. I have wanted Marce to dump him for a long time. But she loves him, and being away from him makes her sad. Her heart is breaking and I don’t want to see that. I know she shares some blame for letting him get away with this crap all these years, but I can’t give her the largest share of the blame. Fer had it good, but he just kept taking and taking, abusing his privileges as “the man of the house.” He could have gone on forever being pampered and petted by his wife and kids, had he just shown the least bit of respect for the work his wife does and helped her out every now and then.

I had thought he would have a role in rescuing Jennifer from Daniel, and that would have some part in his redemption, but it looks like he won’t even be part of that. I’m just not seeing how his redemption is going to happen right now.

Good post, Vivi; good analysis of the Marcela/Fern situation.

Will Santi stand up to Fern, for being a leech roommate? Fat chance! Look at his record of standing up to Pati and Angie - NOT.

I've always loved the fast pace of this TN (except the 25-cap dead zone they inserted in the middle). With many TNs, if you miss a week, you can pick up where you left off. Not so w/ PESE - through the series, if you missed a week, you missed a lot of plot progress. But now, in the final weeks, if you miss even one DAY, you miss a lot!

"A los malos pasos darle prisa."

I heard this phrase in two separate tns last night. In AB, Dan says it about moving away from Camila and the hacienda. In Eva, Mimi says it about leaving JC, her b&b and Mexico City.

It basically means that it's best to get something difficult over and done with-- to do it quickly. To rip the bandaid off. Is there a better English phrase anyone can think of?

Vivi - I sometimes say "bite the bullet" (which is what you do just before someone rips the bandaid off, or lops your foot off, or whatever). So it's kind of similar.

Paula - Hey, now, it's true Santi was unable to stand up to Paty and Angelica, but they both had something that Fernando doesn't. Er... that is, Santi may be defenseless against women, but it doesn't necessarily follow that he's a pushover with men too.

However, Santi has tried to reason with Fern before, to no avail. So even if asserts himself and kicks Fernando out, he probably can't actually change him, which is what we'd really like to see.

One of the hardest challenges in life is accepting that some people just can't be what you want them to be. As Vivi very eloquently explained, it wasn't so hard for us to write off the other marriages because there wasn't much worth saving, even if it was difficult for Santi, Eugenia, and Silvia. But maybe Fernando and Marcela are intended to show us that sometimes it's not as simple as that.

That's a good one, Vivi. I've added it to my dichos web page.

The only other equivalent I can think of is, "What you do, do quickly," taken from the Last Supper.

I think Bill is right about Edwardo-Bastardo intending to have a heart to heart with his daughter but simply chickening out. He seems to be making an effort but the words just aren't coming. He is military -macho and hard-wired that way. His loss.

I also enjoy watching Modern Family with the two gay guys trying to raise a 5 yr. old daughter. What a hilarious contrast. The little girl says the 'F' word in church and the two of them immediately conclude they are bad parents. In every episode they ask. "What is wrong with us?" They vocalize and then change their behavior patterns around the little girl and it isn't always a smart idea but it's always funny.

Bastardo not only can't vocalize, but I don't think his brain wiring can even make a right or left turn. Gertie

Just bookmarked Paula's dichos page. Thanks Paula! Gertie
