Amor Bravío #142 (Uni 137) Fri 3/8/13 A Downer Of A Day For Dionisio Ends With Dan-Cam’s Boot In His Backside

capítulo 142

Mariano has bonded with Baby Agata and Miriam ad nauseam ad infinitum and  has just left with Cam whom he’s now counseling  in the drive to forget Daniel by being resolute in her decision to begin a new life once Dan and family have finally left La Malquerida.  (Okay, okay. He’s got ulterior motives here, but we’ll give him a pass for this since he’s one of the good guys and may fall for Mir before this shindig’s over.)  Cam has chores to do and walks away.  He walks off to get his truck and runs into little bro, Pablo, who tells him he’s still hoeing that long road to Luzma’s returned emotional stability, aka, a normal sexual drive with her new hubby.  He’s certain though, that she’s the one for him and always will be--but damned if those blue balls aren’t gettin’ to be a passel of a hassle which New Gal Turned Neighbor will undoubtedly be more than happy to assist in remedying for him, should it come to that!

Inside the cabana, Dan has started a new password-discovery program on Alonso’s computer to try breaking the code.  However, it’s still not working.  In walks Mir with Aggie and Dante.  Daddy makes “daddy’s little girl” goo-goo eyes at her.  Mir mentions she’s going over with the baby to Mariano and Ana’s new digs to help them move in.  Dan says fine and she leaves Dante there to keep him company.  They can talk to their hearts’ content [largo y tendida= at great length] she tells them.  When Mir’s gone, Dan tells Dante that there, in her bedroom, he lives just to breathe the same air as Camila.

Speaking of Cam, she is with the bulls out in the stable area when she gets a troubling call from Osvaldo.

Dante now tells Dan he feels guilty about Mir overhearing him telling the others what he knew about Daniel’s true situation once she’d entered her coma.  Dan and he agree she’s stronger than they might have thought.   Dan mentions that he plans to bring Abraham up to date about what all Mir’s found out and how she’s responded physically.  Dante says she’s anxious to get back to Chile and they agree it would be best, but Dan’s got too much going on still in Mexico to leave just yet.  Dante tells him he needs to forget that and return with Mir since she ought to be his priority now.  Sure says Dan but don’t worry since, once he’s gone, Cam and Mexico will be in the the rear view mirror and fading quickly from mind as well as sight; Mir and Aggie will be priority numero uno and they’ll never have a clue as to his true feelings for Cami.  Dante asks him how he’s going to pull that one off, keeping Mir happy and ignorant of the truth, if he’s still in love with ‘the other woman’.  Dan says he knows it won’t be easy but he’s going to make the effort at least.  (Where have we heard this before?)

Across the way at Mariano’s new place, Mir and he get started with the unpacking and the decorating while Ana babysits.  (New blended, ‘happy-family’ alert!!]

Rafael, Aaron and Viviana are visiting the church’s orphanage when the roof of the dormitory room suddenly caves in on them all, injuring Rafa and trapping him.  Aaron, Viv and the padre run back into the room to rescue Rafa who apparently got something in his eyes and now cannot see properly.  They rush him to the med center.

Dante and Dan decide to try passwords describing Alonso’s (non-existent) personality—his traits and personal concerns, or what he thought of himself or others who had a great deal of influence over him.  The biggy, other than his domineering mama, says Dan, was his impotence, but Dan already tried that word and it failed.  He suddenly thinks to use the antonym (I’m betting it was “STUD”) and suddenly it’s “you’ve got mail!”   Dan goes right to the audio file Al had mailed himself the day he died and starts looking through it when Cam shows up with the bad news about Chonito.  Yep, unfortunately, she informs Dan, the neighbor lady retracted her statement in court.  Dan figures Dio got to her and threatened her somehow.  Yep, says Cam, and now the whole case against Issa depends on Dan’s testimony.  Dan turns her attention to  Al’s audio file and the three of them begin listening to it.

Meanwhile, Amanda arrives at La Buenaventura and asks for a little face time with Ileana who is more than willing to oblige.  Not to worry, Illy assures Amanda, they can speak freely since there’s nobody there in the house but them.  Amanda says she needs to discuss what she told Natalie earlier about Yago’s real reasons for agreeing to marry her daughter.

Back in Cam’s cabana,  Dan-Cam and Dante hear Issa getting onto Al’s case for his bad judgement in hiding the fact he was dealing with the true DDA on the side; then how the wimp ruined things by allowing his wife to swap him out for a different model (a younger, handsomer, totally stud-licious Alpha-male type); and then giving him orders about garble-garble (the kidnapping?) how/when to let garble-garble [wife, Cam] go in order to win his freedom and Cam’s or else garble-garble he’s going to jail.  The file has been corrupted in most of the important, corroborative and dicey parts--natch.  Cam says except for it proving that Al didn’t plan the kidnapping, they can’t get much from it cuz it’s too unintelligible. Dante suggests getting it “cleaned up”.

Cam wonders what good this tape will do in proving Issa had something to do with Padre Baldomero’s murder.  Dan says it doesn’t; these are two different crimes, but it means that Cam could report Issa to the police as being the mastermind of her kidnapping.  Dante agrees then to take a copy to the big city, i.e., Toluca or Metepec, to find somebody capable of recovering the data for them.  They still cannot risk, Dan cautions, anybody finding out about this recording.  Hopefully, comments Cam,  with Dios’s help there’ll be definitive evidence on it that will put Issa behind bars for good!  (We’re right there with ya, Cami!)

In Dionisio’s den of dissembling dupery, Omar relays the latest on Issa’s progress, or lack of such, in the Baldemero murder inquest.  Omar reports that the neighbor testified that it wasn’t Issa that she’d seen walk out of the B&B the afternoon the padre died, but that now whether Issa goes free or ends up in jail all depends on DDA’s testimony.  Yes, he’s very much alive and will be testifying.  “—Damnation!  The luck he has!  That S.O.B. has more lives than a darn cat!  Delivered from death’s door again!”   Dio then tells Omar he has to see Issa that night and that not a living soul can know about it.  It’ll have to be really late, says Omar.  Doesn’t matter what time it is, replies Dio.

Meanwhile, Illy relishes giving all the down ‘n dirty on Yago to his future MIL.  She repeats to Amanda what Yago told her about this marriage being the best business he’s ever negotiated, how Dio came to speak with both Yago and Cayatano, and how Yago showed her the watch Dio gave him which “must have cost a fortune!” Why, wonders Amanda, since he’s already got more pesos in his pocket than Carter has liver pills.  Illy says Yago told her Dionisio came by one night to threaten him with a shotgun wedding and that he said afterwards he wasn’t going to let the man intimidate or frighten him [amedrentarse].  Afterwards, though, he decided to marry Nat willingly.   The two women agree he’s been bought.

In town in the nearby park, Nat runs into Luzma. They discuss Yago’s non-existent relationship with his mama, and then Nat asks Luzma and Pablo to be in her wedding and to be her baby’s godparents.  They’re a model couple after all.

Dante leaves with the USB copy of Al’s audio file.  Cam is discussing the situation with Dan when Hipolito and PIedad enter the room.  Hipo forces Pie into confiding to Dan-Cam what she overheard Sr. Dionisio telling the anonymous person on the other end of the phone the other day, and the threat he made against Luzma if she blabbed it to anyone.  Pie says she’s obviously frightened over what the man might do to her daughter.  Dan promises they’ll protect Luzma and they decide to call Pablo and let him know the score before deciding on appropriate next steps.

In town at Vivi’s, Rafa and the others get back from the med center.  Rafa, we learn, will have bandages over his eyes for the next three or four days.  Aaron leaves to fill in Anselmo over Rafa’s situation.  Vivi admits how worried and frightened she was when Rafa was stuck under the beams after the roof caved and kisses him passionately.  (She looks like she's smothering the poor dude.  Hell, girl!  Let him up for air!)

Teresa tries helping Mariano with the unpacking and decoration of his new house, but Miriam has beaten her to the punch; her third wheel status becomes very evident when she realizes that she has tastes 180° out from both Mar’s and Miriam’s whose preferences seem to be bounding over the various wall-adorning and table-embellishing hurdles in tandem.  Teresa’s plastic smile turns sour and does an unobserved reverse flip.

At the same time, Dan-Cam inform Pablo about the state of affairs with Dio and all agree to bring Luzma back to the rancho where they can keep an eye on her.  Piedad worries about bringing her back to the hacienda, into El Lobocito’s …er… the lion’s den, right where Dio eats, sleeps, and plots with his peeps.  No worries, assures Dan, they’ve got that part under control—or will have.

Back at Mar’s place, Tere turns her nose up when Mariano does a fatherly emotional rewind, remembering Ana when she was first born as he eagerly plays papi to Baby Aggie.

A bit later, Rodolfo accompanies Sra. Gussie to Amanda’s so she can have a heart-to-heart with her former competition.  Rod waits obediently in the living room while Nat joins Gussie in the kitchen to wait for her mother.  He spies the fancy wedding magazine open to the bridal gown section and frowns.

Pablo and Hipo arrive at the townhouse.  They tell Luzma she’s got to come back to the hacienda with them.  Mama comes rolling out with Refu.  Everyone is confused and asks them why. Nobody understands.  Pablo tries explaining that Dio’s threatened Luzma because of what went on at the rancho, but still they have no idea what he’s talking about and they think it pretty rude of him to put it off for Mariano to explain when he comes for Rocio and Refu the next day.

Back at the B&B, Amanda returns and she agrees to listen to whatever Gussie has to tell her.  They go up to her bedroom.

Once they head upstairs, Nat signals to Rod to give her the lowdown on the reason for her visit.  Rod admits he’d be the last person to know.  He changes the subject to her engagement and asks why she ever started dating him if she really never cared for him.  He can’t understand and needs to.  After a couple of false starts Nat explains to Rodolfo: he is a terrific guy, and she admits that she was initially interested in him; but then Yago came onto the scene and that’s the one “her heart chose”.  She agrees with him that if it weren’t for Yago entering the picture, they’d have made it work.  Gentleman that he is, Rod tells Nat that even though he knows that there’s no chance for him with her, he still wishes her all the happiness in the world.

In Amanda’s bedroom, Gussie explains to Amanda that when she saw the passport (the one Dio tried burning) that she knew immediately Amanda and Cam were telling her the truth.  She didn’t want to believe that the man had deceived her this way.  Amanda assures her that it isn’t Gussie’s fault cuz the guy is a charmer and a silver-tongued snake in the grass.  “--He’s a master at playing the upright, honest defender to one and all when he’s anything but.”  Gussie asks when and how Amanda learned he was a fraud.  Amanda tells her about the time she dropped his locked black leather briefcase and the passports fell out onto the floor, how there were five or six of them with different names but that all had the same passport picture—Dionisio’s. Amanda warns Gussie to be careful because if Dio suspects her then he is capable of anything!  Finally Gussie can’t deny any longer that she’s stepped in it BIG TIME with husband numero tres.

Meanwhile, said mistake walks into the kitchen and asks Piedad where his wife is.  Piedad tells him she went into town but has no idea where or when she’ll get back.  Fine, says Dio, then just fix him something for dinner cuz he’s gotta go back out again.  Once he leaves the kitchen, she shoves Eleutario out the door with an urgent message for Sra. Camila that Sr. Dionisio is there.

The new Sisters of Solidarity in Victimhood, Amanda and Gussie, make fast friends and promise to support each other in anything Dio-damage related.

At the same time, Gussie’s latest gaffe is doing a last minute check of his bad men in black briefcase when Dan-Cam show up.  Dio greets Dan with a brilliant, broad, Cheshire-cat grin, full of his gleaming, feral pearly whites.  “—Daniel, how good to see you recovered and up and about!”  Dan smirks back. “—Don’t be a tiresome boor [cinico].”  “—Why would you call me that?”  “—If I know anyone who’d least like seeing me alive and well, it’s YOU!”  “—How could you say that?”  Cam’s already used her last drop of patience looking after the other, four-legged, dung droppers out in the paddocks.  “—Oh PUHLEEZ, Dionisio!  Stop pretending!  We know perfectly well that it was you who spread that virus around to those bulls!  And what’s more, you were hoping it would kill Daniel as well!”  Dio pulls a Bart Simpson.  “—Who?  Me?”     Dan’s totally disgusted and lets out a huge snort.  “--Stop already!”  Dio ignores him and keeps up the innocent act.  “—Where’d you two pull that out from?  I have nothing against you or the rancho, much less Daniel!!”

Dan tells him it’s a shame he can be so convincing because it’s all such a big lie. Look, says Cam, “--if I held back before it was for my mother, but with all that you did to the cattle and the threats you made to Piedad, I want you to leave the place now and never set foot onto La Malquerida ever again!”  Cara de the-hell-you-say! de Dio.

Back with MnM, Tere admits that Mir has the decorator’s touch and then grits her teeth when she has to listen to Ana ask eagerly for Mir to come back the next day to visit again.  Mir offers to let her come over to the M.Q. for a visit and play with Aggie instead.  From here we, along with Teresa, nearly drown in sweetness and light while Ana and Mar discuss a popcorn munching sleep-in with each other. (Gag me!) FF>>FF>>

Over at the M.Q. once again inside the main house, Dio draws his bushy brows together at Cam in feigned disbelief.  “—Are you running me off the place?”  “—I’m glad to see that you understand me clearly.  I want you to leave at once!  Leave and don’t ever come back!”  In a low, menacing growl he warns her that she’s making a very serious mistake.  “—No siree!  The only mistake I made was allowing you to live here with my mother!”  He tells her that her mother is precisely who he’s been thinking of.  “--What are you talking about?”  “—Don’t you realize what this is going to cause for your mother?”  “—The only pain my mother will suffer is learning who you really are!”   He feigns hurt sensibilities, saying that he’s only a man and has only been looking out for her and her mother’s best interests by protecting them.  Again he pushes to find out where in the Sam Hill they got the idea that he was responsible for either the virus or for Dan’s getting sick and nearly dying.

Dan has heard enough crap from Dio and screams back that he better get one thing straight!  They both know that he’s been trying to get his hands on the M.Q. any way he can but, there ain’t no way no how he’s ever going to get the chance.  Never!  Dio, stern-faced, admits he’s never denied an interest in the ranch but from that to becoming a murderer when dispersing a virus, well there’s one heck of a difference!  Cami puts her hand to her aching temples and groans. “--¡Ay yi yi!”  Dan cannot hold back when he hears this kind of humble horse-hockey being spewed. “--Oh, yeah, this time it was the virus, but before this it was in Chile, and you tried to kill me in order to take over the M.Q.—or will you deny that also??” (Is this a rhetorical question?)  “—Proof!  Show me what proof you have!”

Dan and Cami look at each other as if to ask themselves do we stay mum or do we leave Pie and Luzma out to dry in order to make the point?  Dio jumps in with another self-righteous huff-n-puff bluff here. “—Ha!  I knew it!!  Nothing!  You don’t have a bit of proof for any of this because there isn’t any!”  He starts to leave with his briefcase. Camila screams at him. “--No, no not so fast!! Threatening Piedad just because she heard you discussing it on the phone when you thought that your plan to get rid of the cattle and Daniel had worked seems proof of blame enough for me!”  No, Dio shouts back at her, he may have scolded her for listening when she shouldn’t, but she never heard anything because he never said anything like that for her to hear!

Cami refuses to give in.  “--Get off it, Dio!”  Dio bellows and blusters even louder than before—if that’s possible--bluffing for all he’s worth.   Smoke starts emanating from all his cranial orifices along with an accompaniment of more than a few supercilious sneers and snarls. “--You have her come in here and tell me to my face if you don’t believe me!  Ask her!”  Cam says she’ll take Piedad’s version over his any day and to get his boxcar sized backside off her property like yesterday already or else!  “—No, I’m not going to bring her in here just so you can intimidate her into silence with your blackmail!  No siree!”  (Team Camila is scoring so many bonus points here that they’ve almost gone off the charts!)  “--What she’s told us seems to make sense; it’s logical.  We believe what she says because there’s no reason to think she’s lying or needs money or would misinterpret anything.”

Dan breaks in here to back up Cami with his own threats.  “—Don’t you even think of getting anywhere near either Piedad or Luzma because you’ll not live to tell the tale!”  “—Are you threatening me?”  “—Take it any way you like!  You’ve been warned.”  Cam tells Dio she’s had enough and it’s time for him to leave.  She can’t stand to have him there an instant longer.  He snarls back at them.  “--You don’t know what you’ve started!! You’ll regret having insulted me this way, humiliating me like this!”  Oh, I’m leaving alright, he sneers back at the two of them, and not because they’ve run him off, but because he has some dignity; he refuses to be dealt with like this!  He starts to leave but Dan grabs him by the arm and jerks him back.  “—It doesn’t end here, Dionisio.  You and I will be facing each other again.  Your days of freedom are numbered!”  [contada/s= lit. counted]

Dio tells Dan to take his threats and stuff ‘em.  He raises an eyebrow. “--He who has nothing to hide has nothing to fear.  That’s me.”  He looks directly over at Cami and speaks one last time.  “--I just want to remind you, Camila, that nobody—listen well—nobody will protect you better than I.”  Cam is totally confused.  What the heck does he mean, ‘protect her’?  He doesn’t protect anybody.  It’s not in his nature to.  She should hope not! Now just git!  He smirks as he looks down his nose at her for a final, sinister stare.

Jardinera -- thank you and have fun writing. I love the title. A Dan-Cam boot is indeed a double push out the door. Especially for that fellow trying to save his "dignity". Por favor.

If Miriam and Mariano aren't the most homey couple out there! Complete with agreement about decor and sheets. A tease, or not? Inquiring minds . . . .

So many other things happening last night. I can't wait to read recap and comments.

Oy! What were Cam and Dan thinking when they confronted Dio about what Piedad overheard?? They've accomplished nothing except kicking Dio out of La Malquerida . . . and putting large, bright targets on the backs of Piedad and Luzma.

Juanita, except that if anything happens to them, Cam and Dan will know that Dion was behind it. And then Juarez will too.

I noticed that Mariano's face lit up and became more relaxed and attractive as soon as he met Miriam. It's a sweet chemistry that bodes well IMO. I don't particularly like either of them when they are in desperation mode. (too much eyebrow raising and lip pinching). But as they seem so comfy together (and with Ana) their personalities shine. Too bad for Tere. She was not a happy camper last night.

Can't wait Jardinera! And thank you to 5-ft for yesterday's brilliant recap. Sorry I didn't get to chime in. But now it's the weekend. Hallelujah! Has anybody decided yet what to watch after this ends. I'm sure I can't do another 10PM show. It's ruining my health, but I'm not sure I want to watch a comedy at 8PM. And I enjoy all my peeps on this one. Where will y'all be going?

—Agnès (the French version, since it really does sound better. Have I told you how much I hate my name?

Just watched my recording. Yay! Dio is finally off the ranch.

There's no point in him going after Piedad and Luzma now because: 1) the truth is now out to everyone; 2) everyone would know it's him if anything happened to P&L; and 3) he's got bigger things to worry about now that P&L. There's just no point anymore. I don't think it was a wrong move on Cami and Dan's part at all. It's all the secrecy that gets everyone in trouble and makes it difficult to prove things later.

OK. I know I have been a bit hard on Teresa since her "talk" with Cam in the hospital...and I'm not going to stop now. ;) I got great pleasure in seeing her being totally ignored by Mariano as he and Miriam smiled and sparkled at each other. The problem was never Camila. Mariano just isn't into Teresa. She needs to accept that her Mariano train left the station 13 years ago, and he isn't coming back.

M&M looked VERY goog together...

Cathyx, what you say is true, but as we seem to be seeing with Hissadora, without very clear and compelling evidence, Dio will not wind up in the carcel, at least not for long. Verbal accusations are not enough. My guess is that even if Piedad were willing to testify in court to what she heard, that wouldn't be enough, just he said vs. she said. That's why I feel that, in the absence of concrete proof that will hold up in court, Cam and Dan have accomplished little by confronting Dio except to endanger Piedad and Luzma.

LXV, I too was struck by how well Mariano and Miriam were getting along with each other last night. And how annoyed Tere was. Tere has been seeming a less and less sympathetic character as the TN has progressed. She seemed to start out as the obvious mate for Mariano. Now, in spite of reservations that I expressed a while back, it seems likely that Miriam and Mariano will find happiness with each other. That would also make it possible for Dan to remain close to Agatha geographically as well as emotionally.

True. Piedad's accusations wouldn't hold up in court. But Cam and Dan aren't threatening to take Dio to court over this. They are simply kicking him off their property. They can do that without proof. Him threatening a trusted employee is enough cause and justification for them to give him the boot off their property. End of story.

It would be different had they said to Dio that they are going to call the police, and Piedad is going to testify against him. That is not what they were proposing/threatening. If it were, then yes, Piedad and Luzma would be in real danger.

Agnès, I agree that the French version does sound a lot better. Indeed, I love the French version, with its softer consonant sounds.

Vivi, I loved what you said about Tere's Mariano train having left the station 13 years ago and it's not coming back. In spite of an 8-minute difference in posting times, I didn't see your message until after I posted mine.
(One thing that I find frustrating is that often, once I post a message, I see one or more postings that I didn't see when I started to write my message. Oh well, all my problems should be so serious. :-) )

Agnes- I think your name is lovely, whatever the proununciation. It's also now in fashion again. I also like Agatha. I like the sound of all the 'As' in the name. It has a soft sound to it. Now, if her name was Mildred, that would be a different story. But apparantly the name Millie is also becoming popular for baby girls. Almost everything comes back into fashion at some point. :)

Regarding Dan and Cam confronting Dio with what Piedad overheard, I can see it both ways because I didn't fully understand the exchange. If Dan and Cam let Piedad know that they were going to confront Dio.with the info, then it wasn't a betrayal of something that was told in confidence and not meant to go any further. On the otherhand, I learned a long time ago that it's unfair to swear someone to secrecy about something that will put their lives in danger and expect them to not take necessary action to protect themselves.

I agree, Vivi, that it was a good move for Dan and Cami to confront Dio with his accusations and throw him off the ranch. It is for sure the secrets that continue to wreck havoc in this TN....not uncommon, I know:)

Anyone else like the ceiling collapsing? I thought it was well done, and completely unexpected. (As for picking Rafa up off the floor without making sure he didn't have a neck or back injury, well, that's another thing...)

And Daniel looked good today. Not many men could pull off sitting on a bed working on a laptop as well as he does. And some people just do happiness better than others--when either Daniel or Mariano are happy, the amperage on their good looks doubles. Quintuples.

Foxy- It seemed to be part of the plan for Dan and Cam to confront Dio and kick him off the ranch right away, since Piedad is the one who sent Eleuterio running to get them as soon as Dio returned to the ranch. Obviously she knew the plan was to confront him, and what else would they be confronting him about and kicking him out about?

I think for Cam it was one thing when the threat from Dio was to her and Dan. But quite another when he starts threatening her people. She absolutely won't stand for Dio to keep living amongst the people she cares about under those circumstances.

Now, the question is what's going to happen to Gussy. From the look of the previews, she's going to offer herself up as a spy and go live with Dio. Yikes! We all know this is a bad idea since Dio already knows she's betraying him. I am so worried for her.

Is there any chance that Isadora will move in at Buenaventura just long enough to do her own special redecorating magic? (That is, to have everything she doesn't like put in a pile and burned.) I do not care for the blue light shining down on bull heads. It seems gloomy and weird.

Vivi's comment on names wasn't there when I wrote my comment, otherwise I would have added my two cents. I like the name Mildred. In fact, I like it better than Millie. But Isn't it funny how different names strikes us differently? My oldest sister's name was Gertrude and I've always thought that was about the ugliest name I had ever heard but she seemed to like it. What's really funny is I love the name Yago and especially the way it's pronounced with the y sounding like a J.
OK, sorry to get off topic but the name thing caught my attention.

The only 2 things that Dion cares about are money and Camila. He won't do anything to P&L because Camila will know that he was behind it. He still thinks that he can win Camila and all he has to do is prove his innocence some way. (His ego is that large). Not sure how he would go about it though.

I felt sorry for Teresa last night. It was very clear she was out of her element, especially showing up in a very short cocktail dress to do some physical work. Maybe she was hoping to entice him when she bent over. I agree with you Vivi, he's just not that into her, and probably never really was and it was a good thing that he didn't marry her all those years ago because it wouldn't have lasted anyway. She should think about Dante some more.

I don't like to criticize names, they are so personal and everyone has their own tastes. Names I don't like will be names well loved, and vice versa. I mentioned the name of my daughter to a new coworker, and the look she gave me told me she hated the name. She didn't say anything, but he face sure did. But I'm sure I did that too to other people.

Talk about a 3rd wheel, that was Teresa last night & she felt like it.

If Piedad didn't want Cam & Dan to confront Dio, she wouldn't have told them, what would be the point of that?
They need to use the info in the best way possible, not sure that was it though. Informing Commandante Juarez would have been a good idea.

Cathyx- So true about names. A name one person dislikes, is a name someone else loves.

Someone mentioned yesterday that they don't like made-up names. But in African-American culture, this is very acceptable and sort of became a thing of pride starting in the 70s-- really taking off in the 80s and onward, as a rejection of a culture that had been imposed on them for centuries. Think Malcolm X and getting rid of the names long ago imposed by slave masters.

There's always a reason why people choose certain names for their children-- family tradition or rejection of it; personal history; esthetics; etc. My parents chose my first name so that the three of us could have the same three initials (first, middle, last). Luckily, I like my name and all the nicknames that come from it like Vivi. :)

I'll be on board for Amor Manda, 'cause FC is my telenovio. After AB, we are getting a Mejia TN, which I'm sure will be awful, however it does have Wm Levy. I'll stick with it until it becomes unbearable, & wont mind falling asleep.

Variopinta- Is it the William Levy Mejia tn replacing AB, or the Jorge Salinas/Pablo Monetro Mejia tn replacing it. Can you believe there are TWO Mejia tns coming soon? That's just insane. Where is Carla Estrada?

Has anyone seen the promos for what is replacing this one yet? I ff through the commercials so I haven't paid attention. After watching this great TN, it may be hard for me to watch anything that isn't this well done. I'll give the next 10:00pm time slot TN a try, but may decide later that it isn't meeting my new standards and bag it.

I think the made-up names in African-American culture started well before the 1970s, since already in the mid-70s I had plenty of high school classmates with made-up names. Even my dissertation advisor, who was born in the 1950s, had a made-up name. I feel a little differently about that, since making up the names has itself become a tradition in that culture.

UtahDesrt- True it started earlier. But African Americans that I meet born in the 60s and 50s are more likely to have traditional American names. While most kids I grew up with (those born in the 70s) have less traditional names/African-centric names. There was for sure a big shift in the late 60s and 70s, in line with what was going on in the rest of the country. Keisha (and all its diffent spellings) is as common among my Black peers as Jennifer is among my White peers. Those two names are by far the most repeated on my contacts list. LOL!

I can't believe that Luzma is being asked to pack her bags yet one more time and move back to the rancho. In the short time that she and Pablo have been married they've moved to the city house three times, and back to the rancho three times, right?

Let's talk house decoration. The decor of Mariano's house is an in-joke by the show's set designers, right? We know they can do warm and pleasant--look at Viviania's house, for example. So how did they come up with those hideous black walls with the huge silver designs on them? (And can you believe that Miriam was hanging pictures on that wall? Ouch.) Do we have to assume that it was Camila who decided to do the walls that way? Is the lesson to draw not to ask a veterinarian to do your interior decorating?

To my amiga Nanette: Happy Birthday!

Very belated thank yous to UA, Paquita, Mena, and 5ft Latina for their excellent recaps of this week. I love each of your distinct writing styles which all merge together in the telling of a good story (many times, better than the novela writers!!). Paquita...especially loved your riffs on Caye tan estupido.

Just some odds and ends type of thoughts here...

Miriam is an interesting person. I honestly don't know how I feel about her. I love her clothes and marvel at how many bags she brought with her for what was supposed to have been a short trip.

Pairing Miriam with Mariano seems such a huge stretch to me as there are so many obstacles to overcome. She has seen Daniel as the love of her life; her soul mate. Even when the truth about Daniel's life in Mexico finally sees the light of day, Miriam is going to remain very conflicted in terms of how she sees her soul mate. How does she just kick this guy off the bus and move on to another man? In "our" time, we only have 20 or so episodes to resolve this huge life matter. I can only assume that IF the writers want this M and M pairing, then I can only see them doing some fast forwarding, but it would certainly deprive the audience of some very interesting conflict resolution.

What really struck me some episodes back was when Miriam found out that it was Honest Abe who was responsible for unjustly putting Daniel in the slammer and leaving him there to literally rot. Unless I missed a scene, I don't think I've seen Miriam respond with much anger towards her brother because of his illegal, unjustified, and unwarranted actions. Abe was looking for an excuse to remove Daniel from Miriam's life permanently. I thought Miriam would be expressing some level of rage upon finding out this news, but instead, she just calmly strokes Daniel's forehead and asks him why Abe could do such a thing. Really? This has bothered me. Not good.

If Miriam was that calm about Honest Abe's actions, then I'm dying to see her reaction when she finds out the truth about Daniel and Camila. To his credit, Daniel has kinda, sorta laid the groundwork for this by telling Miriam he really did think she was dead, but I'm not so sure Miriam is really hearing things right now. She is still too absorbed in the idea that she has her husband and her family is intact.

I continue see Daniel as a man in search of his identity. He was a much stronger Daniel (to me) in the beginning because he had "A Plan". Well, the plan has gone to Hades in a Hand basket. His illness aside, Camila has dealt with these life changing issues much more strongly. She has been much more definitive in her decisions. Yeah, yeah...she has had some weak points, but you get the picture...

I know they would never do this in these types of stories, but I would not be unhappy at all if Camila ended up a strong woman on her own. Then, the writers could write part II of this story and all of the characters could continue and we would have more AB. There actually might be a better choice for Camila as a life partner versus some of the choices she is being offered now.

All joking aside, Camila is a strong woman. I like that. She deserves someone who can meet her more than half way. Right now, neither galan fits the bill FOR ME.

Fatima

P.S. I've said before that Gussie is a Blockhead, but she only deserves to see how her actions have harmed others. She doesn't need to die to learn this lesson. I fear for her life. Dio is now becoming a very scary and dangerous man.

LOL! UtahDesert- I kept trying to think of which tn had just ended that they pulled the white and black themed set from. It didn't look like ANY of the furniture Camila was looking at in the store, that all looked like dark wood and dark leather, which is what I expected.

Fatima- Welcome back! We've missed your voice.

Miriam did get really ticked off, but unfortunately Abe is MIA, and Dan was deathly ill. So she took her anger out on Dante, who basically told her, "I did what I was told to do by Dan and your brother- stop taking it out on me!"

Then she decided he was right, and she was just taking it out on him because she couldn't do it with the other two. She let Gaston know, in a very snippy tone, that she HAS to talk to Abe (hence Gaston guessed that she knows what Abe did).

But two things have neutralized her anger: 1) Dan nearly died, so she's not exactly going to greet him with anger when he wakes up; and 2) Abe got the vaccine that saved Dan. Big points in his favor!

Feliz Cumpleanos, Nanette!

Fatima- I think Miriam isn't one to hold on to anger either. She'll probably let Abe have it when she sees him, but he's still her brother and she loves him. She's not the grudge holding type like, say, Augustina who still didn't like Agatha (the grown up one) after decades.

But I like your idea of Camila getting at least some alone time. She has Dan ("I love you and don't want to leave you even though I'm still married to some else who REALLY wants me naked") and Mariano ("I know you just came out of something horrible but I love you and we should date. Sure, I have lots of baggage but at least half of them like you"). They should both just back off.

So was the thing with the ugly white accessories and Ana's approval a FORESHADOWING ALERT or are the writers just messing with us? And why does this ranch house look like a condo in the city, or some corporate boardroom? Where are all the bull pictures and Remington knockoffs that you just know Mariano has to have?

Kelly

Kelly- I think the furniture deliverers delivered the wrong stuff. Some yuppy couple in Metepec or Toluca is at this very moment saying WTF to all the rancho-style furniture and bull accessories that were delivered to their condo.

The roof falling in...what the heck happened?

Poor Teresa... talk about exclusion. It was almost funny that it was little Ana who treated her like she was welcome by giving Teresa a hug. Mariano and Miriam might as well have asked her to wait outside.

I kinda liked the decor though it reminded me of my dentist's waiting room and UtahDesert, you made me smile with:

"Is the lesson to draw not to ask a veterinarian to do your interior decorating?"

Though I'm usually with Vivi in matters like this, I really think that it was premature for Camila and Dan to confront Dionysio so soon. I think the ducks needed a little more alignment.

I was so proud of Agustina again last night, she can be such a gracious lady.

Carlos

Vivi, right
Que bonito amor with Jorge Salinas is on after AB

La tempestad with Wm Levy is on after
AV

Both Mejia, how can we be so lucky. Looks like I can cut out some of my novela viewing.

I thought it was an earthquake but wondered why they didn't feel it anywhere else.

Vivi- That explains it! Because nothing else does, unless we want to blame Teresa and really make her feel like crap, as if Ana hasn't already. Lousy movers. Maybe Yago would like it all. Looks like his taste.

Kelly

I love the idea of a furniture mix up delivery: toros to the city condo, and mod to the ranchero.

V. funny 'm still laughing. Thanks.

My Lakers game went into OT last night so I missed half the episode, I'm sooooooo happy that Dio was asked to leave, he never should of come back, but now I'm wondering of Agustina is going with him? If she does the lady is going to need some pepper spray and a pointy stick to protect herself against him. Things are not looking good for her.

Cam and Dan did the right thing by confronting Dio and kicking him out. His little game is up. He can no longer pretend, as he does sometimes, to be nice to the workers or interested in their lives. Not only did they confront him, but they let it be known to EVERYBODY exactly what he did. Now all the workers who spent all those hours vaccinating, separating, feeding and otherwise caring for the bulls know who caused all this. Pablo will tell Mariano and all the BV workers will find out. Juarez will definitely hear about it and so will everyone else in town. Dio won't be able to go anywhere in that area without people talking about him and pointing fingers. Who's going to say that he left the ranch with his dignity? No one. He'll be "that creep who poisoned the bulls and threatened Piedad and Luzma and got his you-know-what kicked out of LMQ." Pretty bad for someone who is so proud of the "awe and respect" people have for him. It's the best thing Cam/Dan could've done to him. They played it perfectly.

Pobrecita Teresa. I liked her at first, then not so much (when she told Camila to back off) but now I feel sorry for her! She was SO "three's a crowd" that she was an absolute non-factor at Mariano's house last night.
Soyyo

Great comments so far! Fatima, I was hoping you'd jump back in. Love your thoughtful analysis. "I continue see Daniel as a man in search of his identity" Moi aussi, but I can't help but wonder if the roles were reversed and Cami had two husbands, how she would be handling the deception. As it is, she's perfectly free to decide as her heart and soul dictate. But Dan is not, because he believes his decision would cause irreparable damage to the lives of others. I see him as caring and conflicted and as much as I lose patience with his straddling the fence, he's trying to do the right thing. Props to him for trying.

Welcome Elle (or have you been here before?; I'm often away) but it's so nice to hear other voices.

I was pi$$ed at first thinking that Cam'n'Dan had betrayed Piedad's trust by blabbing, but you guys have all set me straight. She never told them not too. But I wonder if they shouldn't have enlisted more backup support before confronting el Diablo. They were perfectly within their rights to kick him off the premises, at any time, even if only on a whim. I would have done it long ago. —Agnès

Vivi in DC, thank you for the welcome and the clarification re Miriam. :))

Kelly, that's a good point about Miriam not holding on to anger for very long.

What I like about the Miriam person versus that doctor person in CME who had the one day stand with Geronimo is that, to me, Miriam does not strike me as being as intrusive. The female doctor always seemed to make sure that she was a part of everything Geronimo did..she was everywhere. While I was glad that Geronimo owned up to being the father of that doctor's child, I really think he took it overboard. I'm glad the writers aren't doing that here.

Pretty soon, Miriam is going to have to experience all the feelings Camila is currently experiencing. Sad days are a comin' I'm afraid.

Miriam is much more likeable to me than Intrusive Doctor from CME. I was ready to cut off that ponytail of hers by the end of the show!

Fatima

Agnes/LXV, you are so nice! Thank you. :)))

Excellent point about role reversal. I think Cams would be in a fair amount of distress, but I think (based upon what we see here) that her inherent decisiveness would work in her favor. She is willing to get feedback on situations from her closest friends. Even if the feedback is not to her liking or might not be useful, she is at least getting it out of her head so that it doesn't become some huge insurmountable mountain.

Fatima

I can't wait to see how dion's leaving will affect aggie and her relationship with him. Will she leave too?

cathyx: I think she's programmed to follow hubby wherever he goes. But she's starting to gather info and insight into just what a monster she's chained herself too. It was good to see her reaching out to other women for support. esp. Amanda, whom she has treated in such an ugly fashion. I just don't think the lady's too smart. Hence my fear for her safety. But Olivia Bucio is playing this role so well, just as she played a very similar abused wife who came into her own in Alborada.

Nanette, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Today is YOUR day and I hope that you enjoy it and relish it. Have a lovely, lovely day!!

Fatima

Agnès, have you read David Cooperfield? It is semi-autobiographical and Agnes is an angel. It made me see your name in a completely different light (I was an impressionable teen, but still).

My issue with Dan-n-Cam telling Dio that Piedad ratted on him is that they didn’t need to do it. They have every right to ask him to leave and they really didn’t need to justify it to them. Ok, since he is married to Camila’s mom, they probably did need to give a reason, but when he asked them for proof of their accusations, all they had to say is that they have reason to be confident in their information. End of story, ta ta, don’t let the door hit ya, etc. Dio’s power is fueled by information; the less you give him, the better off you’ll be.

Was there a reason for that ceiling to collapse? Was it supposed to be an earthquake or something? Just one of the hazards of living in six hundred old buildings? Or just a irregularity in the gravitational field? *looks nervously up at my ceiling*

UTD: “I do not care for the blue light shining down on bull heads. It seems gloomy and weird.” lol! Ya think?

Foxy, you got the lucky draw because Foxy is a much cooler name than Gertrude. Much. ;)

Fatima! You’re back! You made my day. :) I also see Dan as uncertain of his identity and right now he is swaying in the breeze. It’s getting old. Also ITA that Camila could do better than either Dan or Mariano. Dan has become a very flawed hero in my eyes.

Poor Mariano. The décor looks like Teresa picked it out, not Camila. I still like Teresa, but she is a real dimwit when it comes to love. She needs to give up on Mariano and find herself a nice shark of a lawyer in DF to make her happy.

Happy Bday, Nanette!

I think Ana would be glad to have a little sister, so I'm rooting for the M&M pairing. And it was nice to see Mariano looking happy.

Interesting topic about the names: I suppose parents have their work cut out for them in choosing a name that's different enough so that the kid doesn't have the same name as five other kids in the classroom, but not so different as to be perceived as weird.

BTW: Don't ever name an outdoor cat Marco.

Aggie will go with Dio, she still needs to get an original document with his fingerprints. She will probably look for the marriage license. Only thing is, Dio is on to her, pobre Aggie. She hasn't said anything to anyone except Amanda that I remember.

MARCO!!!!...POLO!!! LOL Aleta!

Variopinta- Osvaldo and Amanda are the only ones (aside from Dio) who know Gussy is looking for proof of his identity fraud. She needs to finally tell Camila what she's up to.

I think that Camila is going to have some real concerns about her mom going to live at Dio's house. I hope that Gussy will tell all to Camila at that point.

Feliz compleanos, Nanette!

I agree that Camila and Daniel should have kicked El Diablo out long ago and followed it up with an exorcism. What I think will happen now is that they will go into fortress mentality and have the perimeters guarded 24/7 until El Diablo and Hissadora are finally dealt with.

It should definitely occur to somebody that Amanda's neighbor was threatened by them. Not that Juarez can do anything about it now. What they need is evidence that Hissadora caused the "accident" that killed Ximeana and that El Diablo and his hired killer were connected. Where is that cell phone store employee who pulled the reports for Alonso?

It would be totally in character for Iagho to snoop in Hissadora's handbag, so there's another opportunity to get the goods on her before they have to let her out of the slammer.

Based also on last night's decorating scene I now think that Miriam will somehow end up with Mariano. When you think about it, both Camila and Daniel experienced accidents in the opening episode: Camila's fiance died and Miriam survived. Perhaps that is a foreshadow of her survival to the finale.

It's up finally!

Great work, Jardinera.

Dan needs to remind Camila about El Diablo's perverted intentions toward her, which should provoke a flashback to the hug she cringed from at the wedding.

There should be no confusion over El Diablo's protestations of intent to protect her. Camila knows that he is using her mother.

My gut tells me that we're going to see some real ugliness about this before the finale.

Great job, Jardinera! You captured all the excitement of the heated discussion between Dan-Cam and Dio, and you did it with your inimitable style. ¡Muchísimas gracias!

Oohh Yay, before I sit down with my evening libation to read what I know will be a fabulously entertaining account, I just wanted to join the others in saying ¡Feliz cumpleaños! to Nanette. And @Carolina, No I have not. It's perhaps the only Dickens I've managed to miss over the years, but I see now it's a must. Thanks —Agnès

I get that Luzma and Pablo are young newlyweds, but what's it been, a month or since they got married? And Luzma is ready to let Pablo go because of the sex thing? Someone should tell her what it'll be like when they have a couple kids running around. One month will be nothing! Quit worrying, Luzma! Pablo is too good to worry.

Put my vote in favor of the Agatha name. It's an old-fashioned name but not a trendy one (Stella, Isabel). It's not weird or spelled wrong (so many examples). It's not a boy name that's being taken over by girls (Ryan). It's a good, strong name that'll work well for her when she's older and running a business. (It seemed odd to me when a cousin named his kid after our grandmother- Olive. Even gram didn't like that name. But it's grown on me and the kid carries it well just as little Agatha will).

Kelly

Kelly, your comment just made me think of yet another parallel in this parallel-laden story. Cami and Alonso's marriage got off to a rocky start because of his ED (caused by a close relative, his mamá) and now Pablo & Luzma's because of her PTSD (caused by a close relative, her tio). —Agnès

Great recap Jardinera!

"Smoke starts emanating from all his cranial orifices along with an accompaniment of more than a few supercilious sneers and snarls."

Just one example of the many wonderful and funny descriptions of Dio that you gave us.

I think Rafa's close call and complete dependence on Vivi for the next few days will go far in helping them heal their rift. I certainly don't think they'll be coldly turning their backs on each other in bed like they did the other night.

Poor Rodo, hearing from Nat that had in not been for Yago's sudden appearance in her life, she would have given it a go with him instead. It was sweet how he said he was trying to understand it with both his head and heart. Nat really doesn't deserve this devotion.

Maybe in Spanish Agatha doesn't carry the same curse as in English, but any of the Aggie/Augie names give me the creeps (and I have to live with one). I don't know of a single person under the age of, say 40, named Agnes. I knew a few Mary Agneses, growing up in the '50s in parochial school with all the Donnas and Nancys and Lindas and Bettys. I was named for my grandmother who had been named for her mother. But when a friend recently started picking baby names, she swore it would be Agnes because of me. At the last minute she chickened out and changed it to Alice. Most people can't even remember to call me Agnes; they usually say Alice or Gladys. And I don't even bother to correct them.

OK, that was great Jardinera. How can you top "Dionisio’s den of dissembling dupery" ? And I loved how you described his "boxcar sized backside".

Boy, what a disppointment that Omar turned out to be. I had been harboring secret hopes that he would turn states evidence because his criminal sixth sense would have told him to jump. —Agnès

I still have hope for Omar, he hasn't had his back against the wall yet. He'll rat out Dio to save his own hide.

Variopinta, Omar was the one who held down Leon when Isa cut his tongue out. I don't think there is any redemption in that man's future.

Blogger ate my previous comment. Ugh!

I'm going to try to remember all the witty things I said. I said was thanks Jardinera, and yada yada yada.

Dion will most likely ask Rodolfo where he took Aggie and he will innocently tell him to Amanda's and Dion will know that Aggie talked to Amanda. Not good for Aggie.

The taped convo recovery will probably take as long as the phone records are taking so that will be forever.

The only way Dion is going to get Camila now is by another kidnapping. He must know she is not going there ever.

One of my friends went traditional when naming her first two children: Alice and Henry. The third one is named Ruby. Go figure. It makes me think of the kitchen maid from "Upstairs, Downstairs."

I'm also thinking a Miriam/Mariano pairing is imminent.

Thank you, Jardinera. :)

Carolina, thank you for your kind comments! :))

Natalia...yikes...I'm almost to the point where I can't stand her. Her little world is going to come crashing down and I'm sorry to say that I don't care. I really hope that Rodolofo doesn't end up with her. He deserves someone who loves him. He should never be considered second best.

Natalia, on the other hand, who cares if she ends up with anyone. She's gotten ridiculous. Iago/Yago...he's a scary one, too. That look of utter hate he gave her the other day was downright scary.

Fatima

Thanks for part one, Jardinera.

It does look like Miriam and Mariano have really hit it off...cute couple and perhaps the perfect solution.

However, I can't help but wonder how an M&M pairing will sit with Dan. He doesn't really care much for Mariano and wouldn't like him having any of his stuff...even if he doesn't want it any more.

Carlos

Ya know, I thought just the opposite about Dan's reaction to Miriam going over to Mariano's. I remember being surprised at how he seemed totally fine with Mir spending time with Mariano--almost like he was so ready to be shed of her that he was hoping she might like ol' Mar so much she'd stay. LIke let Mar puhleeze take Miriam off his hands for him.

Dear Jardinera,

What an entertaining recap, complete with some great quips. I liked your reference to this novela in its final weeks as a shindig (love that word!) and to Carter little liver pills. Both references date us a bit, but they sure made my day.

When the ceiling feel in, Rafa seemed to leap into the air. It was a very believable moment. I am hoping that the injuries really are temporary.

The Miriam and Mariano pairing seemed so sensible in that they are both so focused on family and their children. Camila and Daniel seem younger, freer, with a larger world (as someone said yesterday). It does seem like destiny is drawing them together and how interesting to think that Miriam might find herself falling in love and torn between Mariano and Daniel.

On the other hand, when Camila picked up Agatha with such affection the other day, the prospect of Camila raising her popped into my head. That would mean curtains for Miriam, I am afraid.

The next twenty something episodes are full of possibilities on so many fronts. There really are a lot of loose ends to tie up. I certainly hope with UA, I think it was, that we don't have to wait until the last three episodes to see it all fall into place.

To weigh in on the Piedad issue, I cringed a bit when Daniel and Camila kept assuring Piedad that she had nothing to worry about and that they would take care of her and Luzma. There hasn't been a lot of evidence that shielding the community from Dio and Isa is an easy task (just count the bodies). So I guess I'm with those who say that simply getting Dio off the ranch would have sufficed and pronto. I don't think that Luzma is in any real danger, but I'm also not so sure that anyone can fully protect the good guys from our evil duo.

I am loving the naming discussion. We gave our younger son a name that was common in my Italian family over two earlier generations but quite unusual in west Texas, where we lived for many years. Moving northeast, our son found himself surrounded by others with the same name, moving from being a bit special in the name department to being just one of the gang. Sometimes it's all relative!

Spring forward and don't forget to set your clocks-- so you don't miss the next episodio, right?

======

Thanks to all of you again for your kind remarks. Always appreciated like coins in the hat.

Jardinera - Thanks. "Dionisio's den of dissembling dupery..." - divine lol.

I cheered when Cam and Dan confronted Dio. I agree with those who say Dio's got much bigger fish to fry than to waste resources retaliating against Piedad and Luzma. But Piedad's been intimidated all her life, so it hurts to see her so shook up.

M&M all the way. Maybe they won't be in love by the TN's end though, just good friends who comfort each other, but after a year or so... Once Miriam realizes that Dan cared enough about her wellbeing to stay with her despite his love for Camila, maybe she'll want to stay in Mexico a while so he can be close to Agatha. She's got nothing in Chile except Abe in prison and it seems she's never been hands-on with the family business.

I like Teresa. I hope she sees it's time to end Plan Mariano. Maybe seek comfort with Dante, and something will blossom there.

No change of clothes for Hissadora in prison? You'd think she'd ask Cayetonto to bring her some things.

Jardinera,

Love your recap! You have such a clever way with words! It seemed there was a lot of mumbling going on Friday so I missed a lot and you filled it in perfectly.

I vote:

Cam and Dan
Mar and Mir
Tere and Dante
Nat and Rod

Although Fatima, ITA that Natalia is being so ridiculous she doesn't deserve Rod. When Yago initially dumped her, he said some of the cruelest things to her. Yet the next time she saw him she called him "Mi Amor". That's not love that's stupidity and lack of self respect.

How about Issa's smug face when the neighbor folded. Ooh I hate when she scores a point!

Thank you, Jardinera!

Katy

The higher up Hissadora thinks she is the harder her fall will be. Being in a cell block for three days in the same clothes is a minor humiliation compared with what must be coming for her. I hope it's spectacular.

After I deal with tomorrow's episode I will start writing the lead for the Karmageddon discussion.

Jardinera wrote: "Thanks to all of you again for your kind remarks. Always appreciated like coins in the hat."

No, Jardinera, coins don't come close to representing the admiration and gratitude most of us feel!

That ending conversation that Dion had with Camila telling her that no one will protect her like he will was so very odd. I figure he means that since no one really loves her like he does, no one has as much desire to protect her the way he would. I hope that Camila puts that conversation together with all the other creepy things he's done toward her and Dan telling her that Dion has the hots for her and realize this.

Welcome Katy!
====

Cathyx: The final convo was just as puzzling to Cam and I had trouble making sense of it except to think perhaps it was a veiled threat of things to come rather than a disturbing and disturbed would-be lover's plea for kindness and re/consideration. She's unleashed the whirlwind of revenge from what he says and she'll have to come to him to make it stop, and/or that he'll be the only one who will be able stop it either because he'll be the perpetrator or the intermediary between her and the mob who've invested so heavily in the so-called project who want what they want at all cost. That would portend some really horrific times ahead--even worse than the cattle virus perhaps. Just a thought.....

I didn't see Camila asking Dio what hell he was talking about when he said that bit about protecting her, as ignorance of his lusty feelings for her. It was simply shock at the audacity and bs nature of the statement, considering so many of her woes have come from his schemes.

At this point, I think she gets it that Dio feels more than "fatherly" feelings towards her. She does her best to push it out of her mind, because really it doesn't make a difference to her what he feels for her. He's not her friend, like Mariano. And she knows there isn't a chance in hell she'll feel the same way. Plus, it grosses her out, so she refuses to dwell on it. She just wants the creep out of her life and her mother's life.

Jardinera- We were writing at the same time. Me about Cami's perception of Dio's statement-- you about what Dio might have meant. I think you're right that it was more a vieled threat of things to come. And of course Cami has no idea what he means.

ViviDC: Hey, yep! ITA with your perceptions of the scene as well. Perhaps it's just bad writing also??? LOL!

Jardinera- I think Dio just let slip the weird thoughts about Camila that he usually keeps to himself. We're used to hearing him thought bubble this ridiculous stuff/fantasies about himself and Camila. Camila isn't used to hearing this crap. Perhaps the fact that he made this slip shows he is further losing his grip on reality about his chances with Camila. And that can only mean bad things to come...

Dan has told Cam that Dio has more than a fatherly interest in her. I'm sure he doesn't know the extent of the creep factor.

Thanks Jardinera and Vivi for your opinions on this topic. Perhaps he is also referring to what could happen with Aggie too. We know Dion knows that Aggie is Camila's achilles heel.

Let's see if I've got this straight: Dio has essentially "sold" a piece of property that does not belong to him to a group of speculators/developers who have been duped into thinking that Dio actually owns it (or will own it). These other guys are just a syndicate of businessmen who don't know that evil deeds are being done to accomplish the deal. They have their own deadlines and contracts are in place. Why would Cami suffer consequences if this deal falls through? In what way would Dio "protect" her? Call me confused. I feel as though I'm missing something here.

Also, when deals are made in bad faith—such as Hissa somehow getting BV through murder or subterfuge; or the sale of property that was gained due to criminal acts (e.g.ruining the ranch)—are those deals binding? Can't they be challenged and restitution made? Also, it would seem that the transfer of such a large and complex business property with multiple owners would require extensive title research and complicated contracts. Dio can't just sign a piece of paper and hand it over to the desarollo guys. Can he?

Agnes- That's exactly why Estevez and his partners will have Dio and Isa thrown in jail for FRAUD if they don't hand the property over.

Dio is going to do whatever he can to prevent that from happening. Meaning, he will continue to try to hurt Camila and/or the people she loves until she legally signs over the property to him, so that he won't go to jail. Camila and crew have now idea that Dio and Isa have these people threatening to throw them in jail for fraud for the development deal, otherwise they sure as heck would be helping that process along.

I'm sure Daniel can work out the creep factor for himself. He's too much of a gentleman to explain it too explicitly to Camila.

Who isn't stupid about this. She did cringe from El Diablo at her wedding.

What is more interesting in this is what El Diablo's attraction to Camila really signifies. It could be any of the following delusions (with some not being mutually exclusive):

The idea that he is so macho he can conquer someone as intelligent and self-sufficient as Camila;

His seduction talent is so strong he can get her to come over to the dark side;

He can best a younger, better-educated, and handsomer man (Daniel);

He can ditch Hissadora for her;

He can have both Camila and Hissadora without either of them being the wiser (or angry when they find out);

He gets off on the idea of having a mother and daughter set of conquests;

He can destroy Camila altogether.

We've heard him tell Hissadora that she will always be in his life, but we have no idea whether he was lying to her or not. He may or may not have thought of how Hissadora would feel about this. He may not have considered that Hissadora might plan his own demise if they succeeded with all their current plans in order to make off with everything.

One way or the other, Camila will be his downfall.

UA,

"What is more interesting in this is what El Diablo's attraction to Camila really signifies. It could be any of the following delusions (with some not being mutually exclusive):..."

I think every one of the delusions you listed is spot on, but I think the key and most dangerous force is the obsession that he has for her which he has managed to interpret as a pure and true love that they share although she has not yet realized because of all of the poisonous influences surrounding them.

He is very clever, cunning, and crafty... but he is also fourplus craaazzzyyy. I think that he genuinely views himself as the good guy amidst all this evil and that it is his duty to rescue the beautiful damsel and have her join him in the happy ending that is predestined for them.

With Al's video recording as is, isn't that enough evidence to hold Issa in the slammer for a while?, at least until the video recording gets cleaned-up.

Even if parts of the video are inaudible the majority I believe is good plus it clearly shows Issa pointing a gun at Al.

Mariano doesn't know about the video but it would be nice if he did so he could show it to his dad.

Here's something I found funny, Dan is supposed to be a computer expert but you can tell he doesn't know how to use a laptop, he's really stiff and hits the keyboard hard.

I am referring to his fingers by the way. Gosh.

Carlos, re your comments on El Diablo: Which makes him as delusional as Federico Rivero (AMF) and Atilio Montenegro (MDLN), two of Cesar's previous villains.

I'm rewatching AMF in the mornings because I missed some episodes back in the day and seeing that Federico is not just the epitome of evil, he is extremely perverted in a way that El Diablo is not or has not demonstrated to us.

Flaco, that is only an audio recording. We see it as video because we saw the scene play out; it's a flashback.

Dan is wise to have Dante bring it to an independent expert to be cleaned up. It would look suspicious if he did it himself.

UA
Wow I thought if was a video.
Thanks

Jar--This was great fun--a tick by tick beat-down of our favorite hated character.

Dio kept trying to recover his dignity, but he slipped there at the end with his threat to protect Camila--what a jerkwad (even if he does look better than Yago in his close-ups). So he thinks he's leaving with his dignity in tact--from the rear it looked as though it was in tatters. I fear for Gussy, too.

Loved the comments on the misdelivered furniture. Apparently M&M didn't seem to mind.

Fatima--my welcome back is sincere, too. Glad to have your cogent comments. Now, immediately, I have to bring up Dr. Tatas vs. MM. MM is going after her own husband, so that's allowed. Dr. T was going after a married man, granted who was in a bit of marital un-bliss, but she did throw herself at him in all her yellow splendidness. I have a feeling that's where the Luzma-Pab-NewG is going. She's going to start throwing herself at him. Pab is too upstanding to let that happen, but in a moment of weakness, who knows.

Sue455--No one in my generation would have "saddled" their kids with an Alice or Henry--there were already enough of them in our own cohort. Then I made the decision to saddle my own daughter with a very old fashioned name--here's the background. Growing up in a Spanish-speaking country, I loved the way this name was pronounced, Irene (and we have one on AB); liked it in French, too. Little did I know I would marry someone whose deceased mother was named Irene and that I would have a daughter. She's ok with it and was, being the only Irene anywhere. She hadn't thought about it being out of fashion until someone mentioned that she didn't know any Irene's in their 30s, but plenty in their 70s!! (My son has a very conventional name, Andrew.)

Nanette--One day late, but a very Happy Birthday Mananitas to you.

Oh, and Fatima--I so agree with you on Natalia. I have to put my hands over my ears when she starts to chatter. She's so...so...Peppy...just give her some pom-poms and put her out on a high school football field.

Anita, thank you! :)

You've hit the nail on the head in terms of descriptors for Natalia...a cheerleader..that's exactly it. She might as well yank her hair up in a ponytail (just like the "Dr. Tatas of CME!!! love that name!!) and put a HUGE bow on it. The thing that bothers me the most is the disrespect she shows HERSELF. It will all soon hit the fan. If she does end up with Rodolfo, these writers had better make it palatable for us...or else (insert "wink" emoticon here).

Vivi in DC and Jardinera, liked your analyses of Dio's Last Stand before his backside was booted out. As Carlos said, this man is crazy, but he is dangerously crazy and delusional. Omar seems to enjoy this facet of Dio's character a bit too much. He's another worrisome wart.

Fatima

Fatima,

For me, Omar is the most difficult of the characters to understand. I'm certain that Dionysio must pay him well but otherwise, what's in it for him. Surely he realizes what a lunatic he is working for and yet he risks everything doing his bidding.

Does he have any private life? Does he have a woman? He doesn't seem to drink or do drugs...so hat does he do in his spare time? Play video games? Read poetry? Listen to opera? Does he have family?

I guess the most important question we can ask about him is:

WHY?

I'll bet we never get any answers either.

Carlos

Thanks Flaco and everyone else for your Happy Birthday greetings!! It's so appreciated.

Nanette is my middle name. It's from a children's clothing line back in the day. My mother thought it was pretty. My first name, which I go by in the real world,is after my father. I love it. And it's unusual for someone my age.

Flaco, I thought there was video for that file, too. I guess they just decided to do the flashback in a format that went with the audio.

Carlos, you make some very excellent points wrt Omar; very good points.

For me, he is an ambiguity. He doesn't morph into anything other than what he is: Dio's henchman. Usually, these henchmen are braggarts, aren't they? Yet, nothing comes out of this guy's mouth.

That Omar could hold another human being down to have an evil, cold, heartless, sociopath of a woman cut out their tongue tells me more about Omar than I care to know. Either way you look at it...that was a horrific scene.

Highpoints:

Abe comes through.
Gaston is to bring the vaccine.
Cam resuscitates Dan.
Aaron brings Leo’s written list of Isa’s crimes to Juarez.
Cute Dorotea/Eleutario scenes.
Rocio is nice to Luz.
Luz gets news she can now have a “normal life”.
Rocio takes responsibility for losing Caye.
Agustina zings Dio with the news the ranch and Dan are saved and then gets snippy with him.
Dio is not happy (but Viewerville is).
Padre A. counsels Amanda to try and delay the wedding as he didn’t like what he saw at the pre-cana meeting.
Rafa tells Vivi he doesn’t want to end their relationship, he wants to find a solution.
Pablo resists NG (frankly we didn’t expect anything else).
Isa gets arrested in one of the most awful looking dresses I have ever seen. And gets photographed.
Isa cannot get out on bail.
Dio can’t reach Abe.
Pablo does not confide in NG though she’s pushing it.
Isa is not a happy camper.
Dio learns Isa is in jail.
Miriam agrees to help Mariano in finishing up his house.
The vaccine arrives.
Mariano tells Cam the good news about the vaccine who relays it to Vivi and Rafa.
Caye refuses to go to LMQ for the formal request for Nat’s hand in marriage which will delay this train wreck.
Iago actually stands up to Caye. That was fun to see.
Nice, not awkward moment, between Cam and Miriam.
Dan gets his vaccine.
The bulls get their vaccine.
Padre A. gives excellent advice to Luz.
Rocio is kind to Nat, though she does have a bit of an ulterior motive re: Iago.
Dio hopes the vaccines never arrive (Dan and the cattle have already gotten their doses).
Isa finds out her first accuser is Leo.
Highpoint for us, low point for Miriam, but she’s determined to find out the truth.
Leo and Isa thought bubble confrontation.
Miriam and the budgekin are moving back into the hacienda (better chances for M to learn the truth). See low points.
Ileana tells Nat the reason Iago is marrying her.
Miriam says she can handle the whole truth.
Dio learns he may have to pay out to one of the investors.
Dio learns the vaccines have arrived and have already been administered. Dio is having a very very bad day.
Isa’s perfect woman façade cracks a little as she speaks with Caye about bribing to get her out of jail.
Nat tells Amanda what Ileana said.

Budgekin siting.
Amanda and Nana have a frank discussion about Iago, and Dio’s part in getting Iago to commit.
Miriam won’t take money from Cam.
Where can I get a Pablo? Age appropriate, of course.
Isa still has to stay in jail for at least 24 hours waiting for Dan to testify.
Hipolito calms Piedad and calls her “mi amor”-awww!
Abe wants to keep Miriam in Mexico (Viewerville is glad since the longer she stays in Mexico, the more chance she has to hear the rest of the truth).
Cam seems at ease holding the budgekin.
The plan for Miriam to help Mariano decorate his house is still on.
Dan finally get access to Al’s e-mails.
Amanda learns from Ileana the truth about Iago’s sudden change of heart.
Piedad tells Cam and Dan what she overheard Dio say on the telephone and his threat against Luz.
Miriam and Mariano bond over decorating his house.
Teresa is not a happy camper (I see Agnes and I have the same thought).
Dan calls Pablo to warn him. And they decide to bring Luz back to the hacienda.
Teresa certainly not a happy camper as Mariano bonds with the budgekin.
Nat tells Rodolfo that they would be together if it hadn’t been for Iago (HP because it shows she had strong feelings for him and there’s hope for a hookup though Viewerville isn’t entirely sure she deserves him).
Agustina admits she was wrong about Dio and Amanda and Cam were right and she and Amanda begin a friendship.
Ana and Miriam bond. Teresa is being pushed more and more out into the cold.
Cam kicks Dio out of LMQ!!! FINALLY!!! And with amazing style.

Miriam and the budgekin are moving back into the hacienda (awkward for Cam/Dan).
Agustina’s fraud anvil is beginning to fall.
Isa’s arguments against what Leo has accused her of are believable.
Miriam the Good continues to make it hard for Dan to tell her the whole truth.
Omar tells Dio the police have a photocopy of a doc and the name Hector Guiterrez is mentioned.
Cam tells Dan she might consider Mariano.
Dio overhears Agustina talking to Os and realizes that she was the one who gave him the photocopy the police have.
Leo’s testimony is not enough.
Iago gives Nat an evil stare.
NG is still coming on to Pablo and Luz witnesses it.
The witness who saw Isa leave the hostel is threatened.
Cam talks to Dan about moving on since they can’t be together (setting up a Cam/Mariano hookup?)
The witness who saw Isa leave the hostel won’t testify against her.
Dio scares the plates out of Piedad’s hands.
Mariano is “subtly” pushing Cam to start a new life.
Rafa is injured (his eyes!) when the roof collapses at the orphanage dormitory.
Al’s audio file is corrupted at exactly the most crucial moments.
A veiled threat from Dio to Cam.

Fatima, I saw this picture of St. Livinius in Brussels (by Rubens). I'm guessing this was not an uncommon punishment in days of yore. In this case they fed it to the dogs. Yuck. Lot's of people seem to have been involved in the act.

Carlos--I think Omar is a composite or amalgamation of all Dio's henchmen. Dion never seems to run out of people to call when something needs doing. Some (like Julian) had to have a face, or presence, in a scene. But the rest are just too many to have hanging around to house and feed of AB's budget.

Yay--Another HPLP list to add to Nanette's growing list.

Agnes/LXV...lucky you that you got to see this painting in person! I just can't get the actual act of doing this out of my head. Such cruelty.

Nanette, thank you for the list!

Fatima

Nanette, thanks for your lists. "Cam seems at ease holding the budgekin" Loved it. Not only did she seem at ease, she was all kinds of "can, I can I, please?" That was a great scene, played so well by SN.

It was definitely an audio file, no video. When Dan got into Al's email, they showed the computer screen and it said audio with the audio symbol to click on to listen.

I think that Omar is a character like Caridad. Too minor to give us any info on them. Especially this late in the show.

Nanette: Happy belated one!

Here are my picks from the two lists. Loved 'em all cuz there was soooo much happening this week, too.

Cam kicks Dio out of LMQ!!! FINALLY!!! And with amazing style.

Omar is going to stop M&M from getting the vaccines.

What I feared, Luz cannot make love with Pablo because she flashes back to the rape.

Omar overhears the tech tell Juarez that they need the original doc to compare the fingerprints.

Dio overhears Agustina talking to Os and realizes that she was the one who gave him the photocopy the police have.

The witness who saw Isa leave the hostel won’t testify against her.
=======================
The vaccine arrives.

Cam kicks Dio out of LMQ!!! FINALLY!!! And with amazing style.

Piedad tells Cam and Dan what she overheard Dio say on the telephone and his threat against Luz.

Agustina admits she was wrong about Dio and Amanda and Cam were right and she and Amanda begin a friendship.

Thanks, Nanette and Jardinera. So much has happened, good and bad!

And happy belated birthday, Nanette. I hope it was a good one.

Just musing about our favorite noela and missing it tonight when there's slim pickin's on TV. Anyway, I was pondering the differences in Miriam's and Camila's style with Ana. Camila is definitely more fun, Miriam more motherly in a traditional sense, sweet but firm. The writers have definitely built an interesting alternative that sure looks plausible and probable.

On the other hand, we are still more than 20 episodes out and anvils abound.

Felíz Cumpleaños Nanette!!! Y muchas gracias para la Lista HPLP! It was a really exciting week. Poor 5 Foot was the only one who got a set-up/slower episode.

If M&M do get together eventually, the writers have set up a really interesting parental/family dynamic. Ana, Agatha, any children Dan&Cam have, and any children M&M have.

Traveling Lady- You’re right that Camila is more fun/playful and Miriam is more traditionally maternal. But Cam can also be sweet but firm. The times when Ana has acted out or spoken out of turn, Camila has pulled Ana to her and explained the situation to Ana clearly and truthfully. And I’m sure Miriam can also be playful, if given the chance. Dan and Mariano might not see eye to eye on a lot of stuff, but they are both doting papas wrapped around their daughters’ little fingers. I think the four of them could form a really good joint parental unit.

More birthday greetings! Thanks! And thanks for the compliments re: the lists.

Thanks to Jar for an awesome recap and 5 FT for Thursday's ep, if I didn't say so already. All the recappers are great, not only because they translate everything so well, but it's the way they do it. Fun, fun reads always.

Looking forward to FC's new one, but sad this one is going to end soon.

"If M&M do get together eventually, the writers have set up a really interesting parental/family dynamic. Ana, Agatha, any children Dan&Cam have, and any children M&M have." ITSA! That was the scenario I'd envisioned myself. Whoever said Mir has nothing left in Chile to go back to except a bro in jail is correct--even Dante seems to be sin familia, but also rich enough to take long trips outside the country regularly. I bet they all find reasons to stay in Aculco eventually!

Thanks for another great recap, Jardinera. I laughed at "ad nauseam ad infinitum" as well as "passel of a hassle".

Hey, my vote is that the delivery truck brought the wrong furniture to Mariano's house.

Do guys really tell each other that being able to breathe the air their amor breathes make them feel alive?

Was I the only one who didn't understand what was happening at first when the roof collapsed at the orphanage? I thought I was hearing gunshots and I was trying to figure out why our bad guys were going after little orphans. Glad to know that they haven't fallen that low.

I think some of the biggest moments of tension for me in this novela are scenes of NG going after Pablo. Will he cave or won't he? I know he's been a rock so far but these encounters are nerve-wracking!

I think it's just the age of the building. The only thing that worries me is any possibility that Rafael won't get his sight back.

Mariano doesn't look upset at the furniture and he did live in the city for a while. Maybe he just wants something a little more modern than his parents had.

Forgot to mention how cute it was when Piedad and Hipolito first enter the cabin and say they have news, Camila (ever the matchmaker) gets all excited and smiley, thinking they were announcing their engagement. It reminded me of way back, when she and Dan were happy, and Dan told her he gave Hip the job without consulting her, and she didn't mind because she wanted to help the Hip-Piedad romance along.

I can't see Miriam staying in Mexico. She may not have much family left there, but she must have friends and it's her homeland. And it doesn't seem to me that there is enough time for her to fall in love with anyone

cathyx- They can always do a time jump at the very end-- like in CME and just recently on the finale of Por Ella Soy Eva. ITA. Miriam likely won't be in love with someone new by the time the drama is over, but they can plant the seed for something in the future. There is definitely a spark/chemistry between her and Mariano. Something we haven't seen with poor Dante.

When did Mariano live in a big city? He lived in Zacatecas, which is a state as well as a city, and I haven't heard it specified which was meant. If he did live in the city, it's not a big one, more of a large town, with a population of maybe around 100,000, I'd say. You can walk from one end of it to the other in a short time. When I was there, I kept going for walks and running out of town to walk in. It's got lovely colonial architecture in the center and a great anthropological museum and a national university, but otherwise it is a dusty mining and ranching town.

He could have been out on a cattle ranch in the countryside of Zacatecas for all we know. In any event, he sure doesn't dress like a city slicker, so his tastes in furniture aren't likely to run in that direction, either. I love the idea of a delivery mix up. Too funny!

Except that it would have been pointed out by now.

So many anvils and so few episodes left.

Does anyone know how long Abe is supposed to be in prison? There was no mention of it, but what kind of time would he have to do for committing his abuse of authority?

Carolina--I may be wrong, but I understood that the whole family was absent from the ranch for many years. When Rocio discovered she was pregnant and it served to bring her marriage to Caye back on track, she wanted to distance herself from Don Daniel and instisted they move away. Caye or Mariano may have gone out to the ranch regularly to oversee stuff, but didn't stay. That's how the two families didn't seem to know each other, since Cam 'n Mam came to the ranch later on.

We all assumed all the Albarans were living in a big city, but if you heard that they spent those years in Zacatecas, and it is a small town, we stand corrected.

Yago, remember, was supposed to be some sort of hot shot bullfighter, so he had to be near some bulls to practice, no? Why they wouldn't have stayed at BV for him to practice with his own bulls is anyones guess. That's tnlalaland for you.

Nanette--Am I correct that you put three weeks of HPLP together? I can't find the ones for the prior two weeks (Epi. #129-132, February 18-22 & Epi. #133-137, February 25-Mar 1). I'll like to divide them up before I post them. Thanks.

Anita- Nanette posted those HPLP lists on the folowing Monday recap because she couldn't get back to her work computer till then.

Anita--

HPLP Lists:

Here is last week’s list, posted at 2:30pm on Monday: http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2013/03/ab-137-more-curation-frenzy-and.html

Here’s the week before that sent at 1:34 pm on Monday: http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2013/02/ab132-bad-endings-begin.html

Anita, I was talking only about Mariano, not the whole family. I understood that he lived in Zacatecas while Ana's mother was alive and that Ana continued to live there with her maternal grandmother. So that sounds to me like Ana's mother was from there. However, my point was that the writers haven't bothered to be clear about whether it was the small city/large town of Zac or a rural area of the state, so we can't assume that Mariano lived in a large city and developed large city tastes.

I hadn't picked up on all of the Albarans being absent from the BV for any length of time, but I do miss things. They have a second home in DF that Rocio got in the divorce, so presumably they spend some of their time there. And Rocio and Cayetano were travelling in Spain for the first part of the show, so they weren't around, though all the boys were. It seems to me that both Pablo and Yago know so much about ranching, they must have grown up on the ranch.

I think you're right that they spent a few years in DF after Pablo was born, but I don't think it was specified how long. Another sign that it isn't anything important. :)

Wasn't Yago away at school in Spain?

Hmmm ladies--I'll go look again. I'll swear I read every comment on Monday-Tue-Wed-Thu-Fri of the first missing week and Sat on the next week.

Vivi--Did you get the impression that early in the story it was only Rocio & Caye that didn't live on BV? I do remember something about Yago being in Spain now, thanks Carolina, so that Mariano and Pablo did live on the ranch. Not that it matters at all, just wondering if my mind is going kaputt.

I mean, thanks, Variopinta.

Found the Points. Silly me, I was looking on the Monday post, not Friday post, commenting Monday. (I was away parts of those two weeks.)

Anita- Sorry. I should have said on the weekend post but posted on Monday for the last two HPLP list.

Since none of the characters have ever come right out and given us the full story of the Albarran family history, and we weren't really paying much attention to them the first half of the tn, we kind of just have to piece it together. It doesn't really matter. This is what we've heard at different times:

-Yes. Yago was in Spain. We don't know for how long or how long ago he returned.
- Mariano mentioned leaving the ranch life behind for Ana Maria. She died 6 years ago, and he left Ana in Grandma Ruth's care in Zacatecas. We were never told where Mariano and Ana Maria lived. We don't know where exactly Mariano spent all of those 6 years.
- Pablo came to the ranch after recently finishing college when the tn starts. We don't know where he went to college, but we assume not nearby.
- Rocio made Cayetano move them to their house in D.F. around the time Pablo was born, and she refused to return for any long period until recently, after Don Dan died. That means Pablo grew up in D.F., and Yago too, for a good part of his youth at least.
- I supposed we can assume that for most of the last 20 years, Cayetano has left the care of the ranch in the hands of non-family administrators and foremen, but now he wants his sons to take the reins.

Vivi--Thanks, this clarifies more of the timeline for us. It also explains why Gussie and Cam had to be introduced to their neighbors the first time they met.

Vivi, I think that sounds about right.

Observations:

The Albarrans moved to Mexico City approx. 22-23 years ago...around the time Pablo was born.

Pablo seems like a young college graduate, so he had probably only been back in Aculco for about a year.

Mariano, Ana Maria, Ana & Ruth probably lived in Zacatecas. I can't see Mariano & co. living in Mexico City, Ana Maria dying, and then Mariano uprooting Ana and taking her to an unknown Zacatecas to live with Ruth. I think it's probable that Mariano & Co. lived in Zacatecas & he left Ana there with Ruth b/c it was familiar surroundings.

Mariano has probably worked at BV for the past 6 years, to get his mind right after the death of Ana Maria.

There was never any reason for Mariano to have met with Camila b/c she did not run the ranch...that was left to Alonso & Don Daniel...she only started handing the ranch affairs after Don Daniel died.

I doubt Yago would've gone back to BV if Mariano wasn't there, since he doesn't seem to know much about running BV. So Yago's been back for 6 years or less (let's say, right out of college which would put Yago around 29 yrs old since a year has passed in this story). This is probably when Yago developed a taste for bullfighting.

I wonder where Teresa met Mariano? In Aculco, DF or Zacatecas? They were said to be incompatible b/c she was career driven, so this would put her & Mariano at early to mid 20s when they met.

With Mariano being the administrator at BV, there wasn't any need for Cayetano & Rocio to be there, thus they only returned about a year ago from traveling in Spain (and conveniently after Don Dan died).

But Mariano was building the house on the BV when his wife died, wasn't he? Seems to me like he would have been at BV while the building was going on. Really, DF isn't that far from Aculco/Metapec/Toluca-land, so Caya was probably there a fair bit as well, even if he was basically living in DF.

Didn't Mariano and Teresa meet in college?

They might now have been planning on living in that house full time. It was more of an opportunity to buy the land that bordered BV that Mariano took advantage of. Very smart of him, considering that he had to know BV would eventually be divided in 3 between him and his brothers.

that's not instead of now...
