Amores Verdaderos #97 Thu 3/28/13 We Will Always Have Paris. Or That Male Stripper Club.

* Lo refrito: lots of jackassery, jealousy and a big SLAP!

* Lo nuevo: when Vicky tries to talk some sense into Nikki for the hundredth time. Roy is going to be the father of her children and her companion for the rest of her life, so she should be completely sure about her feelings before marrying him. But Nikki is convinced that Rollero is the perfect mate for her, and he loves her despite of her bulimia! Don Aníbal overhears their conversation, and when he realizes that Neta wants to get married, he’s over the moon. My princess, you have all my support! Vicky is like “have you all gone mad?”

* There’s a little bit of progression in the bodyguards’ quarters: Cris and Angel are sitting by a table and she’s explaining him what happened in Cozumel. José Ángel, use your brain, says Cristina, because this is how it feels being accused while you’re innocent. It was just a misunderstanding, like when I accused you and Ms. Victoria! Now the big guy is ridden by guilt because one, he knows Cris has always been faithful to him, and two, he also knows that he’s on the verge of throwing himself at Vicky. He apologizes, and Cris accepts it, but she says she’s very sad because lately they have changed so much and they cannot trust each other anymore. But a suspicious heart never rests. The Arriagas hug each other, and the crying Angel keeps begging for forgiveness.

* BotoxDoris visits the Balvaneras, she says she came as soon as she heard about the great news. Everyone is very happy about the engagement, except for Vicky, but she’s pressured by the Aníbal-Nelson-Nikki team.

* On the tennis ground Robroy tells his best friend that he’s going to get married with the Balvanera’s fortune, I mean, Nikki. Yes, he’s only interested in her money, but Neta Equis isn’t a saint either, last night he saw her kissing her bodyguard! For now he just pretends that he’s not bothered by it, but after the wedding he’ll fire Guzmán.

* In the working room Doris asks Vicky why is she against this marriage. Did she forget that she used to wish that their children would fall in love with each other? Vicky decides to tell her friend about Neta’s illness, and admits that she’s desperate because she doesn’t know how to help her kid.

* Cris doesn’t let Arriaga tear the incriminating picture into hundred pieces… No, first she’ll demand an explanation from the Barbie doll, because clearly this was her doing. Kendra will have to tell her everything, even if Cris has to drag her by the hair! *Viewerville: because she’s Cristina Corona de Arriaga, hear her roar!* Angel reminds her of the tiny little fact that he warned her about Kendra many times before. But at least now she knows how she is. Crissie gets emotional again and says she’s glad that they overcome this obstacle because her heart would break if someone tore them apart. José Ángel is eaten up by his guilt again and he swears that he’ll never ever will fail her. Never. Cristina wants to say hi to Aníbal. Arriaga notes that she seems to like the Don very much, and Cris agrees: yes, there’s something about him that makes her feel like she’s known him her whole life.

* Paula visits Tatito (Grandpa) Aníbal, and it turns out it was him who wanted her to come. While Tomasina is in the room, too, he asks Paula to play the piano at Nikki’s wedding, but as soon as Tomi is out of sight, he starts inquiring about his third daughter. Paula agrees to tell him everything, as long as he tells her what he did with Adriana’s baby. Aníbal admits that giving away that child was a big mistake, but he’ll never talk about it with anyone. Anyway, he can’t have another spawn because he always took precautions when he cheated on his wife. Really, asks Pau. And what about Candelaria? Oh come on, says Tatito, if that was true, Candelaria would’ve told him about the child. He knows Paula is lying to him, he just doesn’t know why. Knock-knock, the aforementioned offspring enters the room.

* In the kitchen Polita asks her beloved hunkalicious bodyguard why is he making such a sour face. Because Nikki’s getting married, says Guzmán. Lili doesn’t get it: Nikki didn’t have a boyfriend last week, but now she wants to get married? Polita starts laughing and says that Roy doesn’t know what he’s getting into because Nikki is so hateful that even her own mom can’t stand her. Little Orchind and Polita laugh, Frankie’s face becomes sadder, and the situation gets worse when Nikki enters the room with a wide smile and cheerful “hello, hello”. She tells the peasants that she’s getting married in a month and of course they are all invited. They can even have a nice new uniform! But come on, Guzmán, why don’t you congratulate me? Oh, too bad you are my employee because if you weren’t, I would’ve asked you to be my witness. Frankie makes his trademark jaw-clenching move and leaves the room.

* Aníbal is happy to see Cristina again, and he appreciates that she wanted to visit him in the hospital. When Paula sees what a strong bond those two have, she thinks about that she can’t tell the truth Aníbal until he tells him what she wants. After she leaves, father and daughter have a lovely conversation: Aníbal says that Crissie always makes him smile, and Cris admits that she likes him very much. Please don’t get her wrong, but since she never had a father, Aníbal is like a father figure for her.

* While Polita, Lili and Jean Marie are gossiping about Neta’s wedding, in the bodyguards’ quarter Nikki is still trying to get a reaction out of Guzmán. Oh, Guzmi, maybe it is just her, but it looks like he isn’t happy about her upcoming marriage. On the contrary, says Francisco, he’s glad that he won’t have to deal with a brat like her anymore. Nikki says she’ll buy her a pretty tuxedo for the big day, it’ll be a gift, and he can choose the color. And what about you, asks Guzmi. What would you like as a present? Oh yes, he already knows what he’s going to give to her… and he kisses her. Telenovela face attack!

* Aníbal asks Cristina to have a talk with Paula and convince her not to keep showing up at the house. Cris doesn’t like it but she agrees to do it because she doesn’t want to get him upset. Then they talk about Liliana’s upcoming birthday, and Tatito suddenly realizes that Lucía and Liliana were born on the same day.

* After the kiss Frankie and Neta continue their dance (aka flirting and insulting each other): she notes that Guzmi likes to kiss her every time he wants, and the bodyguard notes that she always responds to her kisses. You know what, gorilla? Go to hell!

* At Meta Imagen Vicky and Nelson are arguing about Nikki’s marriage and her bulimia. FF--> In the meantime Beatriz tells Salsero that she and Guillo are going to live in Paula’s apartment. Dances with Sunglasses wants to win over his future mother-in-law, who obviously can’t stand him. Don’t worry, says Betty, Paula respects her decision, and she, Beatriz believes in Salsero. We are going to get married.

* Kendho shows up at the Balvaneras where she tells her baby girl that one day this could be her house. *Viewerville: you're a little bit creepy, darling. And how do you know that you're going to have a daughter? Are you a Bene Gesserit?* Or maybe she’ll ask daddy Nelson to build them a prettier house. Cristina enters the hall and she’s ready to rip Kendra into shreds for sending that photo to the Angel and risking their marriage, but the blow-up doll knows very well how to pull Crissie’s strings. She gets excited like a young girl and tells “Cristine” that oh God, oh God, her plan worked! She just wanted to help her, to make Arriaga appreciate her more. Cristina and Viewerville are impactados, this definitely took the wind out of Crissie’s sails. She says she appreciates the good intentions, but Kendra got her into much trouble, so she wants to quit her job!

* Another lame product placement scene at Meta Imagen.

* Kendra begs to Cristina not to quit, and she promises that she’ll make up for what she did. And after all, now that she’s pregnant, she needs her friend Crissie. Please, please, please, don’t quit! Cris agrees to stay with one condition: Kendho has to tell the truth to her husband. All right, says Kendra, but when Cris turns her back on her, she starts to spit insults at her: you wretched trailer trash from the countryside!

* Adriana and Frankie meet in a park where they talk about his family. He says he has a sister, an adorable nephew, and a gambler dad. And no, he doesn’t have a mother, she died many years ago. Adri asks him to trust her, because after all, she told him about her secrets. Ms. Victoria spilled the beans about the piano teacher, didn’t she, asks Guzmán. Anyway, please, don’t talk about Paula. All right, says Adriana. And what about girls? Does he have a girlfriend? He’s such a great, virtuous man, and she’s sure he’ll find a great woman soon. He doesn’t want to talk about the woman he loves either. Instead of that he tells Adriana the story of his trainwreck marriage: he was madly in love, but one night he found his wife in bed with his best friend. Ouch. Since just couldn’t get over with it and since then he hasn’t had a new relationship.

* While Ms. Vicky and Arriaga are sitting in her office at Meta Imagen, they are they are thinking about the same thing: how to tell their loved ones that they love each other? She’s trying to work, he’s trying to read a newspaper, and they don’t even dare to look into each others’ eyes. Instead they imagine the big announcement: “My dear family, life is full of surprises, but you have to know that I fell in love with someone else. Suck it up, guys.” It’s a pretty hilarious and surreal scene, especially the reactions, but they both realize that they can’t do this, and all of a sudden Victoria and Arriaga start talking simultaneously. We need to talk! You go first. No, you go first. No, you! Okay. I’ve been thinking a lot. So did I. Vicky says that although it hurts her much, they should go on separate ways. The Angel nods, and for the last (?) time they hug each other.

* In the park Frankie asks Adri about her private life. What about the father of her child? Vincente? No, she hasn’t seen him for 18 years, and now she’s scared to meet him. Vincente must have a family now and she doesn’t want to mess with his life. Anyway, her daughter is going to be 18 years old tomorrow, and she’s sure one day she can hug her and kiss her. How strange, says Guzmi, tomorrow is Liliana’s birthday, too. *Viewerville: eyeroll – how many times are they going to repeat this fact?*

* Little Orchid is at the Balvaneras’ garden where she tells her favourite plant, that it’d be so nice if Francisco asked her out on a date on her birthday.

* Arriaga admits that every time it’s getting more difficult to hold himself back, and asks Victoria if she wants him to leave. I mean, forever. No, says Ms. Vicky. She has a better idea: she and Neta could change bodyguards. She loves Nikki the most and she’s sure she would be in the best hands. Arriaga agrees, and after all, Nikki is part of Victoria. He says he wouldn’t regret loving Vic but this relationship would hurt their families deeply, and they just can’t allow that to happen. He says goodbye to his boss and leaves the room with a last longing look on his face. Victoria starts to cry and Viewerville starts to wonder: okay, guys, it was very dramatic and touching, but seriously, how long will this last? A month? A week? An hour?

Aribeth:

Love that Black and White Screencap, the title for it and the title of this recap. I can't wait to read your take on this epi.

Confession time: I'm getting bored with the poorly written love story of Nikki y Guzmi. The characters are truly adorable, and they deserve more than this "fight, kiss, fight, kiss, fight, Nikki throws up and shuts Guzmi out, fight, kiss, fight, Guzmi cries, fight, kiss, fight, a random guy/girl throws himself/herself at one of them, fight, jealousy, kiss, fight, Nikki all of a sudden wants to marry Roy, fight, kiss, fight" storyline.

They never had a real friendship phase, and IRRC, they only had one deep conversation (when Nikki told him about the models who bullied her).

I'm still sitting at Nikki's table, but come on, writers, you can do better. Do you want me to explain it with apples?
apple 1: Vicky/Arri/Cris - complex storyline
apple 2: Salsero/Bea/Kendra - complex
apple 3: Paula/Aníbal/Candelaria - complex
apple 4: Adriana/Aníbal/the baby - complex
apple 5: Nikki/Guzmi/Roy - even Twilight is more complex

Oh, and:
apple 6: Paula/Guzmi/Bea/Felipe - yep, muy complex :)

Aribeth - you have outdone yourself already, pre-recap. :-D

I really did like that final office scene between Casarictoria when they agreed they needed to distance themselves. These two have great chemistry AND acting skillz.

!Ya Basta! with the Nikki/Guzman tonteria, shalala shalala.
At this point, I'm ready for Adriana and Guzman to become an item. They have intelligent conversations!

And nary even a mention of Balzac. I. Am. Having. Withdrawals.

Was the spray bottle on the counter in the kitchen some sort of veiled product placement? The bottle had a very distinct shape. Or maybe it was just there to remind us viewers that they are "the help."

Paula, you are still a jerk.

Doris looks like her cosmetic surgeon pulled a little too tight around the eyes. Just sayin'...

Aribeth- Looking forward to what you come up with later.

ITA about Nikki-Guzman. I was WAY more interested in the conversation he was having with Adriana, than in his lather-rinse-repeat scenes with Nikki.

I am so glad that Vicky and JA have moved beyond denial and now both acknowledge how they feel about each other, and that the best solution is distance (if they don't want to be adulterers, or don't want to fess up to their spouses and end their marriages). Now, the question is, will they actually succeed to keeping distance?

Aribeth - Great starter.

I too would root for Guzman with Adriana, if I didn't see the opening credits. Surely Nikki will mature over time.

Aribeth- I also agree that the two characters deserve more. At least Guzman is involved in other storylines, like his mom, and Bea-Guillo-Leo. But Nikki's story and character seems stalled. She really has no clue about what's really going on with her parents and grandfather. She is TOTALLY wrong in her assessment of everyone in her household: She thinks her mother is uncaring and wants to get rid of her; she thinks her papa and grandfather are wonderful, caring men; she thinks Tomasina only looks out for her because she's her mother's paid employee; she thinks Guzman seduced her for money; she thinks Roy is with her because he loves her; she thinks her aunt is making unfair accusations at her grandpa; and she thinks Kendra is her friend. This girl could not be more misguided and wrong, about everything and everyone in her life!

Airbeth- I completely understand where you're coming from because even I (Team Nikki/Guzmancito), become annoyed and frustrated with their flip flop encounters, but as Niecie has pointed out, it seems that "Nikki will mature over time."

So I can't help but root for them because I'm sure that once they get past all the drama and he said she said (Kendra), that when they do get together their relationship is going to be a solid one. :)

I can't help but be sucked in when they have the fight/kiss scenes, probably because I find Nikki humorous at times.

Looking forward to the recap Aribeth, I too love your title :)

Oh and loved the apples explanation *rolling*.

Team Nikki/Guzmancito

Aribeth---You didn't even start the recap and your post is already
a "BIG" winner. Your apple explanation was super to say the least. However, I must say---I am not as disappointed in Nikki's story line
as some are, maybe I have a little more patience. Vivi---You said it perfectly. Nikki has made the wrong
decision's on just about everything
so far and yes there has been many
kiss, fight, kiss scenes up until now. My comment yesterday questioning Nikki's brain power may have left some people thinking that I am anti Nikki, so---[Victoria in Texas] and others, I will say, it's true that I am a BIG,BIG Sherlyn fan but I am not anti Nikki. I have Eiza/Nikki music in my music collection and I think that Eiza is a good actress. For me, I am not tired of the many kiss-fight scenes that we have
been watching. As I said, I have a lot of patience and maybe---the longer that the writers make us wait, the sweeter the romance will be in the end.
the gringo

I completely agree with y'all. Neta Equis and Gusanito need a new page of script. What is with all the attack kisses? Does the director think that is the hottest thing ever and can't get enough of it? Personally I think it's more compelling when they actually have real conversations and kisses that involve less hoovering.

I'm not completely sick of the two of them yet, but it's time Nikki had a little character development. And Guzmi, if you can't get over her, maybe try to charm her a little instead of alternately glowering and going at her like a lamprey.

What does Aníbal have to gain at this point by continuing to not tell Adriana what he did with her baby? She already knows he has lied and betrayed her, however much he denies he was involved. How did this crabby old coot run a successful agency before Victoria came on board?

Raging Bull---The Angel came on like a RAGING BULL after he saw the photo last night. For a short time I was afraid that he might hurt Cris. I'm glad that he calmed down---don't know what was said but Chris must have had a good explanation. Come on Angel!!! acting like that shortly after you helped Victoria smooth out her makeup---Que???

Cris---Get away from KendHo, she will destroy you. First a picture,
next??? Don't let her take you down Cris.
the gringo

Gringo - Cris used her head. She told JA the truth, figured Kendra did it (okay that didn't take a genius), and told Kendra she'd quit unless she confirmed the truth to JA. With JA, Cris even quoted Vickie's "the suspicious heart never rests" line. Poor Angel - I could smell the guilt on him when Cris said that.

Julia - If Anibal admits anything about Adriana's baby at this point, people will wonder what other lies he has told and held firm. Anibal probably believes his own lies, by now. He would rather go down in flames than be honest and face the consequences.

Oh my gosh! Do the circus clowns know that Nikki stole the shag rug out of their van? What was that thing she was wearing, Yikes!
MC

Part one is up, I'm working on the second part.

Thanks for the comments!

(Fans call Vicky and the Angel Arrictoria, like Brangelina, and there's a group called Arrictoria Lovers - they have a FB page, a twitter accounts, a tumblr pages and who knows whate else. So I decided to use the name. :))

Victoria: oh, I agree, Nikki is hilariously funny.

Oh, a detail I'm not sure I got right: in the kitchen, Neta Equis told the staff they were all invited to her wedding and they got excited thinking she wanted them to be guests, but then didn't she say something about getting them super fashion special uniforms for the event, meaning they would still be staff and working?

Most excellent part one!

Julia, you're right, she was talking about a uniform. I didn't mention it in the recap, but yes, it does imply that she wants them to work on her wedding day. I modified the recap.

Aribeth, Part 1 was Super Neta nicht Zero, mais trop bien mas 6 manzanas, Capta?

I'm glad someone else confessed first that Nikki/Guzmi need more conversation and less face attacks. Guzmi is old enough to know how to charm and attract a woman. He probably doesn't know quite what to do with Nikki because she's more changeable than a newborn. Remember what happened early on when they almost made love at the country house and the lights came back on? Any guy would be confused. He has his guard up...and their timing is always off.

He only needs to look at himself in the mirror to see how he could have three women having the hots for him (Nikki is sooo transparent), another who really likes him and a sister who adores him. He's a good guy. Please, give him something else to do--like finding his wife and getting that divorce. He's stalling.

With Adri he's relaxed, himself, no sign of sexual attraction, and friendship dripping over in heaping ladlefulls (just watched Hissy cook up some LovePotion#10 on AB) of camaraderie.

Vivi, you took the words right out of my fingers re both the Nik-Guz and the Arr-Vic relationships.

MC--You'll soon find all kinds of shag rug pieces at Meta*Mart (hemmed, sanitized and brushed). We predict they are going to be a best seller item this Spring with Miss Nikki as the fashion pace-setter. (P.S. That was a funny line.)

Oy! I was blocking that shag rug shrug/shawl shoulder wrap thing out of my memory bank, and y'all had to mention it... I won't be ordering one because I know our dog would attack it or think its a toy and rip it to shreds.

Aribeth- part one delivered! Thank you. :-D

Part two está up.

And Happy Easter to everyone!

Doris--We also have the same shaggy merchandise for sale in the Pet Dept. (Hint--they are cheaper there because they are seconds. After all, they are going to get peed on and ripped up right away.)

LOL, Doris and MC. The vest or whatever it was looked like roadkill hit by paintballs.

I love these recaps and want to thank Aribeth for her wit and sharing her knowledge of Spanish for those having trouble even with closed captions in Spanish. I want to thank all the great recappers for such fun everyday.

The Lurker,

GinCA

Aribeth, LOL at your avatar (is that what it's called?) No apples necessary... I know how the cat feels about the Nikki/Guzmi merry-go-round.

GinCA again

GinCA: I'm happy to see you again!

Yes, it's called avatar. :) It shows a Grumpy Cat.

Simply marvelous recap Aribeth!

What was the product placement? I don't think we got it in the U.S.

Cris's fantasy reaction to JA sharing his news about loving Vicky was hilarious. Thanks for capturing it.

Now that Adri knows Lili's birth date, and she also knows Lili was born in Santa Rita, will she investigate? She should at least ask Cris and JA if they remember any of staff who were at the clinic that day.

I could not take my eyes off of Nikki's furry vest thingy. I kept wondering what it was made out of. Who would purchase and buy such a thing? And if I would be seeing it soon in a store near me, like so many other tn fashion statements. By the way, I went shopping last weekend and I saw the lace/eyelet shorts in three stores, including Ann Taylor Loft, where almost every professional woman in DC under the age of 40 shops for our biz clothes. I can't imagine walking into a meeting with those lace shorts though. Apparently lace and eyelet are really hot this season.

Fashion police wanted! What was up with Nikki's dead animal vest and who told Guzman that skinny jeans tucked into huge work boots was a good "luke?" My daughter was walking through the room and couldn't stop laughing at him, "what is up with THAT?" Took all the oomph (however small) out of that scene.

I wish Cris had dragged Kendra around by the hair for a bit and THEN asked why she sent the photo. It would've served her right. Too bad "rage-first-ask-questions-last" Cris wasn't there last night.

Grabbing Nikki and force-kissing her is not dramatic or "hot" - all it does with its repetition is elicit eye-rolls now.

Lol Loved your recap Aribeth...
Of course everyone knows I enjoyed the Nikki/Guzmancito face off (literally). Even though they always bicker, I have to say I love how they kiss, It's really passionate and of course shows how they really "feel" about each other :)

I feel kind of bad for Cristina even though she isn't one of my favorites.

Team Nikki/GUzmancito

Aribeth - Terrific recaps and pics.

Vickie and JA imagining making the announcement to their families was too funny. Especially, JA's - he had a little Masterpiece Theatre host thing going on.

Aribeth - Loved the recap! Anita, thanks for the shout out, the fur was just so outrageous I couldn't pass it up. I'm so glad there will be new classy fashions added to the Meta*Mart. Can't wait to go shopping!
MC

I know it's late but I couldn't let this one go by without cheering. This is recapping gold, Aribeth. Thank you.

And thank you for putting our middle-aged romantics in black and white. They look good, don't they? [Sigh. Sniffle.]

Aribeth:

Wonderful snarky recap! Loved the whole thing, all the screencaps and the title. I am way late commenting but so much to do. Thanks so much for this recap : )
