PEAM #6 – 3/18/13 – Is He or Isn’t He? What? A Gay, A Threat, A Financial Genius

Keep your fingers crossed for a better second week that will keep our esteemed colleagues on board while this plot is sorted out.

El refrito: Fernando threatens Jesus for wanting to leave after everyone else has gone but Fernando gleefully hands this ridiculous work schedule.  He begs for reason from the unreasonable so he can go see his daughter.  The famous paws tighten into fists as Jesus reviews his ignominious arrival before getting to Avon so he humbly says he respects his boss and asks for the same and return.

El nuevo: With plenty of free time for hanky-panky and no hanky-Paty in sight, Rogue taunts Alma with a romantic dinner invitation with candles and flowers.  She gives in and they go off smiling and together for a change.

Poor fool Jesus carries the ridiculous piles of meaningless paper work out of Fernando’s office and spills all the pile as he spills out his anguish to Xochi.  As she tries to help him pick up the mess, Fer comes out and forbids her to help Jesus, he pushes her back into her office while demanding that Jesus move every paper by himself.

Vapid Vero tells Valliant Valentina that her father may be coming but she has to go to bed exactly at 8:00PM, even though he is late.  Valentina thinks her mom is a crashing bore too, saying, yeah ma, I know… Then Vero carps at Jesus on the phone that he is late and not showing real fatherly intentions since he can’t even keep a date to see his daughter.

At the restaurant, Rogue and Alma enjoy their romantic, expensive restaurant as she casually asks how his trip and meetings went.  He doesn’t want to talk about all those hard meetings quickly thinking about what indeed was hard about them, so she agrees to change the subject, then teases him about the Jesus fiasco of not letting him come into her office which doesn’t seem to make our hot-headed one any more comfortable than the conversation about his trip did.

Late Jesus shows up at Vero/Vale’s door with an enormous bear with one minute and several seconds to go before 8:00PM. Vero throws her ugly fit and yells like a harpy that he can’t expect to see his daughter she is already in bed.  Her clocks are set ahead so he has no time by her reckoning.  When he somehow gets into Val’s room with the bear, Verobitch throws another trantrum about the bear and how much filthy bacteria and how many cooties it must have since who knows how many people have touched it.  Her phobias must make her a real sketch in bed, poor El.  At least the barely asleep Valentina awakes and is glad that her real Dad did make it to see her.  In her book the promise was kept and even though the giant oso was whisked away, Valentina is smart enough to know it is not his fault.  I am smelling the winds of rebellion here.

Alma and Rogue step lightly around any real topics.  I keep thinking that Rogue seems turned on by her, but she isn’t putting out but on the otherhand he needs her money and/or expertise since no one else seems to work at the Avon office so he keeps playing the game of engagement.  He seems glad that she wants to end things early so she can rise at the crack of dawn to go back to work.

Vero throws yet another fit about finding out that her “tight-adz rools” are not being followed.  Jesus actually makes fun of her rigid ideas but with no sense of humor that can be detected it seems to go over her head.  Can you tell I hate this woman already? I am not amused, but such is the way of comedy.  Thank the goddess, Elias shows up and changes the subject just a bit which might be an aid to Jesus. Vero’s 4th or 5th fit is accusing that Jesus doesn’t really work at Avon and she demands to know what his real job is and she is going to show up tomorrow to find him out.  He skirts the subject of his title, Elias looks pretty miserable, he seems to be finding out what a harpy he has on his hands.  Maybe the two of them need some Pati-cake sessions for THERAPEUTIC benefit only.

Rogue gets home to find Pati in navy blue underwear ready to seduce her Roguish lover.  He slavers and grins so much I lost the thread of how he got her out of his house.

We are treated to the two ways Alma and Jesus wake in the morning and we get to hear out delightful theme song again with much joy and then Jesus gets to have a real dinner and not the tofu-ness the harpy is about to serve up (sorry JudyB, I am working up a hateful attitude about Vero here not really criticizing the food choices of self-respecting vegans).

For some reason, Jesus shows up at the office before anyone else sips some coffee then pulls his jacket over himself.  The phone rings and a male voice asks for Alma, when learning she is not in work yet, the man exclaims when learning he is talking to a male secretary, even in Spain they make bad jokes.  Unflapped, Jesus finds out that the 1 million euro deposit that the office in Spain was expecting has not been received.  Jesus calls Alma at her gym workout to explain the problem.  Back at the office, she thanks the Spanish inquisitor on the phone and explains how her very capable and efficient secretary has already helped her fix the problem that the wrong account number must have been used and they will straighten out the deposit records at once.  Alma disappears in to the exec bathroom, Jesus feeling good that he is being recognized for once for his financial prowess sees Alma’s cell phone buzzing with RogieBoy’s picture on the screen.  Jesus hurries to give the cell phone back and as he is trying to answer it, Alma somehow looses or loses her towel and they both scream in surprise while Rogue gets hung up on and can’t understand the screams and the lack of attention…  Alma and Jesus are both so shy and modest their mutual horror and screams are just fun.

Vero starts her morning rant that Jesus must be lying about the job at Avon, but Elias says he seems honest and is probably just not known at Avon yet it is only his first days.  Vero demands to know whose side he is on, well yours my love of course… he says being a hasty retreat.  Valentina comes in for breakfast all cheerful followed by a nurse with facemask and hygienic gloves on to keep the child’s lunch pail antiseptic (like the child’s mother).  I vote for some mud or real life to cure this child.  Vero repeats her annoying rant that Jesus had the nerve to bring a plushy animal to the house full of bacteria and certain plague or disease.

Back at Avon, the rest of the staff is learning what stupid tasks Fernando set on Jesus last night from his lone defender Xochi.   Jessica does the victory arm pump, her return is certain now.  Fernando does his fop dance and thinks as he sees the impossible paper work in the copying room in impossible piles that he has won a manly victory over Jesus.

Jesus is in the gym and has a strange conversation leading almost to a fight with the gym manager (?) wherein Jesus reveals seeing Alma nude last night.  Wondering if she was ugly or something, Jesus confirms that she is fabulous in all the right places but he is so embarrassed.  Pati in gym tights or other hotpants immediately calls Rogue at Avon delighted to turn the jealousy buttons on her main squeeze wannabe to tell him that the gay guy saw his so called Fiancé in the buff last night.  Fernando is already in his office laying the plans to get rid of the secretary since work is threatening to be done if he doesn’t get Jessica back soon.  Rogue loses interest in Fernando’s drivel as he turns his jealous ear to the cell phone on hearing that Jesus may be getting more action or at least more of a peep show than he is.

In the car Jesus babbles about his shame in seeing Alma when she had lost her towel.  She wants to forget all about it but he can’t forget and cannot stop talking.  When she asks if she was so awful he does reveal that he thought she was the picture of perfection, an angel gracing those on earth.  She shuts him up but grins at the compliments.  At the end of the car ride, Alma asks Jesus to be discreet and not discuss with anyone what happened with the now infamous towel.  Upstairs, Rogelio has a tantrum about what Jesus must have done to his woman at the gym.  Alma follows Jesus into Rog’s office and defends that all Jesus did was chase after her to give her the cell phone because he knew she was going to miss a supremely important call from her dear Rogue.  In fact all he did wrong was to cut the call off, nothing about the towel incident.  But the bullyboy brothers should be very grateful to Jesus that he was at he office at 6:00Am to get the important call from Spain about the deposit of A LOT OF MONEY which did not get deposited right and Jesus took care of it.

Outside Jesus meets the office peanut gallery who wonder in loud unison if he has finally received his well deserved booting out the door and he plays with them turning thumbs down but then both back up saying HA!  I won.  They just can’t believe he has survived yet another sure disaster.

With her theme song playing, Alma replays Jesus’ sweet confession of her nude perfection first she relaxes with a smile on her face then a worry crosses her memory when the head secretary assured her that Jesus is gay, gay, gay.

Meanwhile out in the gallery, the head of human resources presents Jesus with a hanging clothing bag with his supposed OFFICE UNIFORM that he not only has to wear but has to sign for it since he is responsible for it’s well being.

Meanwhile Rogue is being goaded on the phone by Pati who is still at the gym and he boils and burns as she reminds him that he doesn’t seem to mind that the Gay Guy saw his fiancé in the NUDE.  Rogue is sweeping from angry to disbelief by Pati’s stirring the stew.  Pati does her cute baby talk which makes one wonder what Rogue needs Alma for except perhaps as a piece of executive property to prop his giant ego.

As we leave the scene, the peanuts are doubling over in stitches as the gay stitchery is paraded by our well-muscled Jesus. It looks like something Pat Boone would have worn while he sang of teen love with a white sport coat (sorry to you young ones that may not know who I mean) except it is an unmanly raspberry like all the women office workers have to wear.  Alma looks on with helpless and as yet ineffective sympathy.

Scenes coming:  Jesus gets some precious time with Valentina in a park and she gets to enjoy the oso gigante who he must be harboring in his apartment.  Rogelio is continuing to rant and rave about this immeasurable threat to his ego that he can’t seem to fathom especially since the saintly Alma keeps finding herself falling into the arms of the raspberry-chested secretario right in front of his eyes.

Yes! When you mentioned Pat Boone I thought yes, that's who Jesus reminded me of in that ridiculous uniform. Thanks, Cheryl, for the recap. "Her phobias must make her a real sketch in bed, poor El." Good one. Because yeah, in addition to being the food nazi, we find out Vero is also a germophobe. Could she be anymore weirdly overwrought?

I enjoyed tonight's show. I liked Patimelt better not draped over Rogue. The 3 Stooges were absent- can't stand them- and the humor was less junior high. In fact I had my first real laugh. When Alma lost her towel and Jesus used his finger to cover the eyes of Rogue's picture on the phone I had a good belly laugh. And that scene with the teddy bear and Valentina and FC using that funny voice with her... awwwww. Here's hoping for a better week.

Cheryl: Thanks for this marv recap. I too had a good laugh when Alma lost the towel and our Chucho was kinda trying to cover his eyes, lol. Also the scene with the bear and Valentina was so sweet.

About Chucho and the sleeping at the office. I think maybe the bank took that apartment over. That was the reason the guy moved out to begin with and Chucho was staying there.

Fernando and Rog are way over the top. I can't help liking PatiMelt though. She is so funny and the expressions on her face, too funny.

Oh, they guy that called from the Avon in Spain, I swear that voice sounded just like Lisardo, the actor that was the crazy Augustin in CME. It sounded just like him.

I felt so sorry for Chucho and that uniform of raspberry. The pants were so short, poor guy. Can't wait for tomorrow now to see what happens. This is getting better. At least Chucho is getting some little victories in : )

Fabulous job Cheryl!

Ithabill- Ditto to your whole comment. Enjoyed the epi; first real laugh at the towel/covering Rogue eyes; cuteness with the bear; Patimelt sans Rogue was more fun; etc.

Jesus decided to leave the office to see Valentina but knew he had to go back after seeing her in order to finsih all the scanning Fern ordered. So he just went home for some quick food (the news from the neighbor lady was that the bank has not yet come to take the apt), and then went back to the office to finish the work, which he was just finishing up at 6am. That's why he was ready for a nap in his chair when the Spaniard called.

Vivi: Thanks I got that wrong about the apartment. My bad : )

Mads- This is the first episode I didn't fall asleep during, so I actually got all the details this time. LOL!

I don't know if it's a good or a bad signal, but this episode seemed to go very fast and not much happened.
The voice on the phone from the guy from Spain, reminded me that from the Iluminatti from You Tube, like some voice distorted with a computer program.
As I said, the episode went really fast but I found it very light...

Thanks for the fill in, Vivi and Mads. I lost a couple of minutes butbwas too tired to watch the episodeva second time and my taping system is fatally screwed up. Still I like to get the important details right.

I agree that tonight was funny and the characters are beginning to get their rhythm in place.

So sorry for the iPad booboos on my comment above. I seem to hit every key but the space bar...

HaHaHa Cheryl--loved the clippity clip of the recap and the Title--bwaaaaahaha, it could stand alone and we'd all understand what the episode was all about. We think you are a word genius.

Vapid Vero, Valiant Valentina, hard meetings, smelling winds of rebellion (BTW, how does rebellion smell?), great stuff.

Before I forget the episode completely--I'd like to share this:

It was funny when Xoxi was helping Jes pick up the sheets from the floor, Fern told Xoxi to go home because he didn't want to have to pay her extra (time and a half for us). Later, when Alma wanted to know why Fern had ordered Jes to scan all those copies (I think it was personnel info) she told him (while Jes was present) that he didn't shouldn't have needed to because that data had been backed up long ago *and* he should have known that. Score 1 for Alma/Jes, 0 for Fern/Rogue.

Eli and Jes ARE going to become Val's two daddies. Eli immediately backed up Fer when Ver confronted Jes about no one knowing him at Avon, that maybe if it was his first day, no one knew him--it happens. Score 1 for Eli/Jes, 0 for Vero.

Pati was sure she'd get some nookie from Rogue at the house, but Rogue is pithed because she takes no account of whether he might have had "company" or not. Patimelt says she knows Alma's schedule, so she was sure he'd be alone. She tries to get a "rise" out of him poking fun at Alma and he gets even more pithed and says if she doesn't like it--since she knew that was the way things were going to be from the beginning (Alma/legit vs. Pati/solo for fun in the sun)--she can largate (he didn't say it, but thought it), she turned to largame and thought he was calling her back but he was only telling her not to forget her coat. Score 1 for Rogue, 0 for Patticake.

The Peanut Gallery took bets when Jes was called into Rogue's office--they thought it was curtains for him. Xoxi took a chance and bet a pittance on Jes staying on--and won! Score 1 for Xoxi/Jes, 0 for the Rest of The Peanut Gallery. She got the cash.

As for the guy in Spain sounding like Lisardo, Mads, that's because everyone in Spain speaks like Lisardo (especially when they want you to know they are *not* from C.A. or S.A.).

I hope Alma lets Jes lose the uniform, or at least gets him some pants that fit. She may be the one to take his inseam measurements and find out which way he "dresses."

I did enjoy this episode a lot more and was touched by Alma & Jes' alone time in the car. She was very patient with him and got that she was enjoying his company, too.

Now about Pattipat at the gym. She knows exactly how to cause trouble. I didn't watch all of Dinero, but is she channeling Vicki, Vicki, Vicki?

Of course I meant Eli backed up Jes (I still want to say Fer/Fernando as in Colunga).

Anita great points and clarifications and I love the score cards you added up. Thanks for your fun contribution.

Thank you Cheryl for a wonderful recap - and thanks to all the recappers for last week's fun recapping. I've been reading all the great comments too just to see what everyone makes of this show.

I didn't mean to be a lurker, but I didn't get to Caray until after 4:00 PST every day and I knew it'd be even more dserted than Avon in the middle of the night which at least has guards.

I'm still hoping the characters calm down.. the outright cruelty of the office people is hard to take. When I was watching Llena de Amor, many people bailed because of the fat jokes, and this is even more over-the-top offensive in places.

But there are some good characters, and Patimelt is fun. FC is not my dream guy - I don't go for muscle-y types, but he has an endearing sweetness. I'm going to hang in there and hope we get a better proportion of good guys to bad guys.

Fabulous recap, Cheryl. I loved the alliterative names (Vapid Vero and Valient Valentina) and the "sketch in bed" comment. Oh, and my sophomoric heart fluttered at the use of the word "cooties."

I love Elias! He's such a nice guy.

In fact, there seemed to be a little bit more "nice" to offset the "mean" in this episode. I'm holding out hope.

Jesus and the bear was precious and I loved Valentina's joy had having two padres.

I got a laugh when Chucho said he couldn't look Alma in the eye and she snapped back that she already figured that out from the towel incident.

BTW--the Alma/Jesus theme is "El Amor Manda" by Maria Jose. I like it!

PS: My only complaint is that they are still going with the gay humor that is clearly inappropriate (if the muting of the lines is any indication.) Reeeaaalllly hope that stops soon.

PPS: (Sorry, I'm really not meaning to flood the thread.) Patimelt is really growing on me. When Rogue asked about her seeing Jesus naked...or was it vice versa? ... anyway, her quip about it not being such a horrible thought was funny.

Good morning all,

Loved the humor in your recap Cheyl. This was fun I thought. I agree that one of the best moments was Jésus covering Rogue's eyes on the cll phone.

I loved the moment when Fernando saw all the work piled up in the copy room & assumed that Jésus hadn't done it -- so he could fire him. He twirled that mustach & did his little dance -- but we all know that even though it was busy work it was all done. Then Alma really gave Fernando his comeuppance when she found out how useless the assignment was.

Much as I am left cold by Blanca Soto she is a voice of calm and reason in this office. Maybe her stone faced non-acting is serving her well in this role.

I found Carmen Salinas annoying at the beginning but she is turning out to be a nice mother figure for Jésus & is giving hi some sound advice.

Güera

yeah, I agree with you guera about alma. At first I wasn't too sure about her but she's grown on me. So far the people I can't stand are fer (which blows because I liked him so much in LQNPA, that was him right?) & that black haired secretary that's not xochi, she drives me up the wall!

I know many don't like vero & I agree that she's a cold cold woman with some crazy but she's kinda interesting. My guess is she's probably maybe still hung up on jesus.

Loved when xochi won the bet and how jesus showed gossip town that he wasn't fired.

It's interesting to see fc in a comedic role & so far the tn is keeping me interested. I'm kinda watching maria de el barrio reruns so my mind starts comparing him in tns. So far I like PEAM's fc way more than MdeB' fc. do not like that player boy vibe.

Thanks for the recap & love your title :)

jlk

Cheryl, thanks for the great recap! The show was actually okay tonight. It seemed that the scenes were shorter and they didn't linger too much on anything. At least Jesús got a good dinner somewhere.

Jarifa

Cheryl, you are the best! Great recap filling in the blanks for me as my dear son decided to call mid-episode.

Have to say, things got slightly better last night. Not so much junior high humor, seemed like we're getting some characters simmering antics down, and the three idiots were nowhere ( thank you). Still some to be aggravated over, but I felt a little hopeful.

I'm also kinda of loving Patticakes--the actress always cracks me up anyway, and love how she loves to just needle Rog. But I cannot abide Vero--please tell me what is with the germs phobia. The poor little thing goes to school--hello! germ city!. She is pushing that little girl towards Chucho by just being such a prat. (And hubby is doing the eyeball dance which is never a good sign for longevity of a couple.) First time Chucho lets that little one have fun, get dirty and be a kid she will be hooked.

They had better tone down the gay humor and abusive caddy fellow gals in pink or I may still have a hard time with this TN. This is considered humor in Mexico? Yikes?

I have seen all kinds of humorous programs from Mexico (DISEÑADOR AMBOS SEXOS, MARIA DE TODOS LOS ANGELES, etc.) and I can only guess this is Osorios interpretation of the EL SECRETARIO. I am not familiar with Colombian humor, but I liked BETTY LA FEA and PEDRO ESCAMOSO. Who knows?
That's another reason not to do remakes. It doesn't translate well to other cultures...

Thanks, Cheryl! What a delight! I actually got to watch in real time last night, which makes the recap more fun as I'm reliving some of the best moments...

Favorite lines:

He doesn’t want to talk about all those hard meetings quickly thinking about what indeed was hard about them.

Maybe the two of them need some Pati-cake sessions for THERAPEUTIC benefit only.

I vote for some mud or real life to cure this child.

Fernando is already in his office laying the plans to get rid of the secretary since work is threatening to be done if he doesn’t get Jessica back soon.

And one from naughty, naughty Anita:

She may be the one to take his inseam measurements and find out which way he "dresses."

I, too, get the biggest kick out of our Paty. She's just so over the top. My favorite part was her laying her cellphone flat in her hand at the gym so she could stand back and crow out "DEZNUUUUUUDAAAAA..."

Cheryl, you were on a roll last night. This is great. :-) Pat Boone in raspberry and all!

Oh goody, Alma and Rogue went on a date at last. I was beginning to wonder if they spent any time together at all. (I know that for some couples, limited exposure is the key to harmony!)

Vero has either led a very sheltered and privileged life, or has forgotten a lot of things about the real world, if she can't understand why Jesus might have to work late once in a while. Or why all of his coworkers might not recognize his name the week he starts his job. As for the germ phobia, does she realize that she is probably breeding a superbug in her own home?

How is it possible that Elias had no idea his wife was such a lunatic? Maybe she wasn't so bad until Jesus showed up!

Things do seem to be mellowing out a little bit (just a little). I'm holding out hope that the reindeer, at least the secretarias, will thaw out soon. They aren't mean to Xochi, so maybe they aren't really as nasty as they seem. (Maybe. Not so sure about Jessica!)

Just wanted to say thanks for the recap! I only was able to catch a few bits and pieces of last night's epi in the middle, namely when Alma and Chucho were in the car, when she defended Chucho and when he told the raspberry gals (aka the Peanut Gallery) he wasn't fired. Hope to watch another complete episode soon (I saw a couple last week) so I can get a better opinion of this TN. It's sounding like it's getting better!

Always love your wry quips Chery (though I'm begnning to think my new name will be "sorry JudyB" since I'm hearing it so much lately! LOL

Faves:

"no hankyPaty in sight" and

[Alma] "a piece of executive property to prop his giant ego [Rogelio]

Right on Lady! If Fernando seems impossibly nasty, Elias seems impossibly noble and good. What, not even a twinge of jealousy that another male is moving in on his clearly beloved stepdaughter!? In real life, anyone would feel a bit threatened.

And the patience of a saint with his Screech of a wife! Hard to believe. Either a saint indeed, or very *****-whipped. Still, unbelievable or no, glad someone in that sterile household is on Chucho's side.

Definitely better show last night and even though Patty is relentlessly naughty, she's a delight while doing it. And she's so dissed by Rogelio, can't blame her for striking back. In effect, he's treating both his lover and his fiancée with great disrespect.
May his blood pressure rise and the rest of him droop. Take that Rogelio!

Thank you, Cheryl!

I'm enjoying this, for the most part. The only character I really can't stand is Fernando. He is aggravating, and not in a fun way. Can't they just send him to reform school already?

I thought Jesus should have just taken off the fuschia blouse and gone shirtless under the jacket. Who would have complained? Cardenas's claim that there is no possibility of changing the uniform is obviously crap. Everyone can see that the other secretaries are wearing variations on the theme. I hope Alma yells at Cardenas for wasting money on a uniform that is all wrong just to be mean.

Tks so much Cheryl.
I'm beginning to like it, some good moments. Jesus didn't look away very fast at seeing Alma desnuda.

Güera
"I loved the moment when Fernando saw all the work piled up in the copy room & assumed that Jésus hadn't done it -- so he could fire him. He twirled that mustach & did his little dance -- but we all know that even though it was busy work it was all done."

I'm confused about the paperwork, how did it get done if it is in the copy rm?

Amen, Julia! Jesús should at least have been given the hot pants option.

Variopinta, he needed to scan the documents -- so I guess they have a scanning copier.

Gracias Blue Lass

Great recap Cheryl, thanks.

The only ep I really liked so far was last Tuesday's. I liked this one second. I fast forward through some people's scenes: usually the pink ladies' scenes, even though I miss Xochi's contributions--I like her, Rog's and Fer's, the three sillies, Pati when she's talking with Rog--I like Pati when she's not dealing with him. Last night I even had to ff through a scene with FC because the bimbo pink lady was annoying me with her background antics.

Vero is psychotic, but I have to say that Jesus need's to get on her good side and giving Val cotton candy on the sly is not going to do that.

Still hanging in there for another week or so.

OT: JudyB. I'm a vegetarian trying to go vegan, but have a problem with sweets and cheese.

Nanette

Nanette...sweets and cheese are the hardest!!!!!! I'm pretty good at avoiding cheese (though I still think about it) but when the craving for sweets gets unbearable (like when I'm very tired) then I cave and have some raw honey. And that's not vegan or even vegetarian 'cause I'm eating bee food. But so it goes. I'm not nearly as saintly as Veronica, and hopefully not as rigid or tight-a$$ either.

Thanks, Cheryl. Great recap. Right away I loved:

"With plenty of free time for hanky-panky and no hanky-Paty in sight..."

I'm glad that Pati has already won over a good number of our group. She is sort of Kristal (LldA) without the baggage.

I'm a little disappointed that Veronica has very few supporters here (I see that hand, jlk) so far. She is the most interesting and far and away the most complex character for me.

She raises so many questions:

How did she ever hook up with Chucho and make a baby?

As Julie asks:

"How is it possible that Elias had no idea his wife was such a lunatic?"

How is it that Val seems to be such a normal kid?

Can she smile?

And I don't understand the strong support here for Elias. He's amiable enough but he appears to be either medicated or neutered.

However, didn't he offer Jesús a drink similar to Amaretto or did I mishear? I thought that Veronica forbids EtOH in her house.

I felt sorry for Jesús over the uniform but then I feel sorry for all the ladies having to wear those horrible uniforms.

Have we seen that giant bear somewhere before? He looks familiar.

Carlos

Thanks, Cheryl. Loved your recap.

I'm enjoying this novela. Much of the stuff on Telemundo I'm watching now is good, but dark. And we just finished up Pablo Escobar which was beyond dark.

What's not to like about Colunga doing comedy? I think he's doing a fabulous job. I love it when he gets verbose out of nervousness around Alma and can't stop. I noticed a couple of funny sound effects that didn't bother me too much. When he put his hand on his back, suffering from all night on the scanner, and they made a vertebrae cracking sound. And when Alma told him to be quiet in the car and they made a zipper sound as he moved his fingers across his mouth. Corny, but I liked it.

It was also funny when Alma dressed Fernando down for his fake scanning job to torment Jesús. She told him everything was backed up to the nube and he looked skyward as if searching for that puffy white cloud.

Is that ArturoBear from Teresa? I think that same bear has made a number of appearances. He should be in the credits.

The uniforms are bad, but at least they're being fair about making all the support staff wear them. It really bothered me that in PESE, which was always about the feminist message, all the admin ladies had to wear the blue dresses, but Renato never had to wear a uniform, even when he was first hired as an administrative assistant.

Maybe Vero is right to be concerned about Bear Germs. Maybe she's a telenovela-watcher (everyone needs a vice, even her) and she knows where that bear has been.

Well, I guess we won't be seeing HER in the Pear Robe.

I'm looking forward to the time when Jesús' financial degree starts to help Alma with the company. So far all he's done are regular admin tasks.

It was also funny when Rogue got a big smile on his face at the thought that Jesús might be gay.

Maybe Jesus will discover a huge frow-day, but no one will believe him, because he was involved in a frow-day of his own.

It would almost be weird if Ferneanderthal and Rogue WEREN'T committing frow-day.

Maybe Xochi will wear the Pear Robe? C'mon, Xochi, take one for the fans.

Pati already has a history with the Pear Robe as Kristal in LldA... so maybe...

Carlos

Oh my I love the comments! Honestly, this TN could turn out to be utter crap and I will still watch it just to "get" the comment jokes.

Blue Lass--Add me to the DEZNUUUUDAA fan club!

Carlos on Elias:
"He's amiable enough but he appears to be either medicated or neutered." LOLOLOL!!

Who coined Patticakes? I like that, too.

JudyB--I'm hoping for some drooping from Rogue, too.

Novelera-I'm hoping they do something that incorporate's Jesús' financial skills too. They certainly made a point of letting us know he's got them.

Incorporating Blue Lass and Julia's thoughts: I would love to see Jesús be the one to uncover Fernanderthal and Rogue's frow-day (ha!ha!) Thought I guess that would make more trouble for our favorite secretari-O.

When they first talked about the uniform, HR Guy kept referring to the "gremio" (union).

Is it possible that the union requires the employer to provide uniforms to the secretaries? That would actually be very helpful to employees who don't need the expense of buying nice clothes for work, especially if the employer wants them to dress to a particular "standard." And extra-specially if it's a TN workplace where the employees will gossip and criticize one another's outfits mercilessly.

Oh, is THAT what "gremio" means?!? I looked it up in my Franco-era dictionary, and it just said "group" or something like that. This makes more sense.

Yes, the Osito has been around, and it Vero had seen the way Teresa groped ArturoBear, she'd probably burn the thing. :)

Julie- Great point about uniforms actually being a way to help lower salary employees look smart each day, without putting a dent in their pocketbooks. If only they weren't so hideous and uncomfortable looking. For Jesus, all he really needed was a black suit, white shirt, and black and fuchsia striped tie. They could have even added a black vest, and it would still look normal and classy. Why would they want a staff member, who is one of the first faces people will see, to look foolish?

I'm still mad that at the end of Eva, we didn't get to see the blue dresses break out of the prison of those curve hugging dresses.

Sorry, folks. I've been in Telemundoland for a long, long time. What does frow-day mean?

Vivi, they let Jessica wear a skirt that barely covers her @$$. Clearly this company is not concerned about looking foolish.

They should ditch the vests and bring all the skirts to a reasonable length. Jesus can wear a fuschia shirt, but it should be a regular men's dress shirt. I vote bow tie.

Frow-day = fraude = fraud

I've heard "gremio" used in contexts that sound like "labor union," but I've also heard it used in the context of a... oh, how sad is it that I can't remember the English word - like an alliance of businesses within an industry, like the tequila council or the dairy farmers association or American dental association. One of those things. Whatever they are called. (League? Consortium?)

So he could, theoretically, have been referring to the latter (maybe there's a fictitious Cosmetics Company Consortium), but a labor union would make far more sense. I only mention it in case they start talking about a makeup manufacturers' gremio.

If the mid-trada is any indication Jesús will get a much better variation on the Razzberry uniform. Hopefully tonight will be the only night we have to deal with the ridiculous uniform.

thanks cheryl for the wonderful, entertaining recap.

I don't know if anyone said it but Alma didn't go to the office to take care of the problem. Jesus brought the laptop to Alma at the gym. She was sitting at the gym's cafe bar talking with the man from Spain. When she left to go to the women's locker room to change for work, her cell phone rings. Jesus saw it was Rogelio calling and proceeded to follow Alma - entering the ladies' locker room -- to give her the cell phone.

Has anyone noticed this? AVON spelled backwards is NOVA.

Sara C: I'm also hoping that ridiculous outfit of Jesus' will see one day of airing time. Hopefully, Alma will do something about it.

I think the guy used the measurements he guessed instead of the measurments that Jesus corrected him with.

I don't know if it's been explicitly mentioned, but did Jesus lose his visa when he was arrested? Does he no longer have the option of going back to Chicago and his jobs and certification exam and loving community there? I know that he now wants to stay to be near Valentina, but I wonder if he can't even consider skipping out on the terrible abuse situation at Avon because everyone who loves him and will give him better work is on the other side of a border he can no longer legally cross.

Julia, he has to report to the long-haired airport lady every 2 weeks -- I think he's on some kind of probation.

H eis on probation, and has to go back and sign every two weeks. He has to stay in Monterrey for some time now.

Great recap Cheryl, thank you for a great start to the week. I agree with all that this episode was a little better than last week's.

I love the comments but I'm not a Paty fan. I'm having trouble warming up to this backstabber.

Oh, I missed that he had to stay there and report and sign in person. I thought he just had to check in with her (meaning it could be by phone).

Who all thinks that Ferneanderthal or someone else is going to make Jesus miss his probation check-in at some point?

If he knew he would (love it) but I think so far the only people who knos about the police record are Franco and Alma, nobody else...

I think Fern might be superdemanding of his time, and Jesus will be trying to get away for "something important" but won't want to say what it is, and Alma won't be around to allow it, and the combined hindrance of our supporting cast will make him late.

Or, this show could surprise me and NOT do that.

Oh that's right, Nanette! I had completely forgotten about that scene when baldy guessed the wrong measurements.

Julia-excellent plot call. I'm willing to bet Fernanderthal is going to screw up one of the check ins. From what's aired, I'm guessing this is going to be a somewhat predictable show (not a complaint...I'm really not picky.)

Does anyone think Vero will join evil forces with anyone? Or will she spread her bile all on her own? (Or has that question been asked already?_

Carlos - I'm watching last night's episode now, and the drink Elias offered Jesus was "licor de amaranto" which (taking an educated guess) would be what you get if you soak/steep amaranth.

I wonder if they toast the amaranth first. Toasted barley tea is quite delicious. Maybe the taste is similar?
