PEAM #6 – 3/18/13 – Is He or Isn’t He? What? A Gay, A Threat, A Financial Genius
Labels: Manda
I enjoyed tonight's show. I liked Patimelt better not draped over Rogue. The 3 Stooges were absent- can't stand them- and the humor was less junior high. In fact I had my first real laugh. When Alma lost her towel and Jesus used his finger to cover the eyes of Rogue's picture on the phone I had a good belly laugh. And that scene with the teddy bear and Valentina and FC using that funny voice with her... awwwww. Here's hoping for a better week.
About Chucho and the sleeping at the office. I think maybe the bank took that apartment over. That was the reason the guy moved out to begin with and Chucho was staying there.
Fernando and Rog are way over the top. I can't help liking PatiMelt though. She is so funny and the expressions on her face, too funny.
Oh, they guy that called from the Avon in Spain, I swear that voice sounded just like Lisardo, the actor that was the crazy Augustin in CME. It sounded just like him.
I felt so sorry for Chucho and that uniform of raspberry. The pants were so short, poor guy. Can't wait for tomorrow now to see what happens. This is getting better. At least Chucho is getting some little victories in : )
Ithabill- Ditto to your whole comment. Enjoyed the epi; first real laugh at the towel/covering Rogue eyes; cuteness with the bear; Patimelt sans Rogue was more fun; etc.
Jesus decided to leave the office to see Valentina but knew he had to go back after seeing her in order to finsih all the scanning Fern ordered. So he just went home for some quick food (the news from the neighbor lady was that the bank has not yet come to take the apt), and then went back to the office to finish the work, which he was just finishing up at 6am. That's why he was ready for a nap in his chair when the Spaniard called.
The voice on the phone from the guy from Spain, reminded me that from the Iluminatti from You Tube, like some voice distorted with a computer program.
As I said, the episode went really fast but I found it very light...
I agree that tonight was funny and the characters are beginning to get their rhythm in place.
Vapid Vero, Valiant Valentina, hard meetings, smelling winds of rebellion (BTW, how does rebellion smell?), great stuff.
Before I forget the episode completely--I'd like to share this:
It was funny when Xoxi was helping Jes pick up the sheets from the floor, Fern told Xoxi to go home because he didn't want to have to pay her extra (time and a half for us). Later, when Alma wanted to know why Fern had ordered Jes to scan all those copies (I think it was personnel info) she told him (while Jes was present) that he didn't shouldn't have needed to because that data had been backed up long ago *and* he should have known that. Score 1 for Alma/Jes, 0 for Fern/Rogue.
Eli and Jes ARE going to become Val's two daddies. Eli immediately backed up Fer when Ver confronted Jes about no one knowing him at Avon, that maybe if it was his first day, no one knew him--it happens. Score 1 for Eli/Jes, 0 for Vero.
Pati was sure she'd get some nookie from Rogue at the house, but Rogue is pithed because she takes no account of whether he might have had "company" or not. Patimelt says she knows Alma's schedule, so she was sure he'd be alone. She tries to get a "rise" out of him poking fun at Alma and he gets even more pithed and says if she doesn't like it--since she knew that was the way things were going to be from the beginning (Alma/legit vs. Pati/solo for fun in the sun)--she can largate (he didn't say it, but thought it), she turned to largame and thought he was calling her back but he was only telling her not to forget her coat. Score 1 for Rogue, 0 for Patticake.
The Peanut Gallery took bets when Jes was called into Rogue's office--they thought it was curtains for him. Xoxi took a chance and bet a pittance on Jes staying on--and won! Score 1 for Xoxi/Jes, 0 for the Rest of The Peanut Gallery. She got the cash.
As for the guy in Spain sounding like Lisardo, Mads, that's because everyone in Spain speaks like Lisardo (especially when they want you to know they are *not* from C.A. or S.A.).
I hope Alma lets Jes lose the uniform, or at least gets him some pants that fit. She may be the one to take his inseam measurements and find out which way he "dresses."
I did enjoy this episode a lot more and was touched by Alma & Jes' alone time in the car. She was very patient with him and got that she was enjoying his company, too.
Now about Pattipat at the gym. She knows exactly how to cause trouble. I didn't watch all of Dinero, but is she channeling Vicki, Vicki, Vicki?
I didn't mean to be a lurker, but I didn't get to Caray until after 4:00 PST every day and I knew it'd be even more dserted than Avon in the middle of the night which at least has guards.
I'm still hoping the characters calm down.. the outright cruelty of the office people is hard to take. When I was watching Llena de Amor, many people bailed because of the fat jokes, and this is even more over-the-top offensive in places.
But there are some good characters, and Patimelt is fun. FC is not my dream guy - I don't go for muscle-y types, but he has an endearing sweetness. I'm going to hang in there and hope we get a better proportion of good guys to bad guys.
I love Elias! He's such a nice guy.
In fact, there seemed to be a little bit more "nice" to offset the "mean" in this episode. I'm holding out hope.
Jesus and the bear was precious and I loved Valentina's joy had having two padres.
I got a laugh when Chucho said he couldn't look Alma in the eye and she snapped back that she already figured that out from the towel incident.
BTW--the Alma/Jesus theme is "El Amor Manda" by Maria Jose. I like it!
Loved the humor in your recap Cheyl. This was fun I thought. I agree that one of the best moments was Jésus covering Rogue's eyes on the cll phone.
I loved the moment when Fernando saw all the work piled up in the copy room & assumed that Jésus hadn't done it -- so he could fire him. He twirled that mustach & did his little dance -- but we all know that even though it was busy work it was all done. Then Alma really gave Fernando his comeuppance when she found out how useless the assignment was.
Much as I am left cold by Blanca Soto she is a voice of calm and reason in this office. Maybe her stone faced non-acting is serving her well in this role.
I found Carmen Salinas annoying at the beginning but she is turning out to be a nice mother figure for Jésus & is giving hi some sound advice.
Güera
I know many don't like vero & I agree that she's a cold cold woman with some crazy but she's kinda interesting. My guess is she's probably maybe still hung up on jesus.
Loved when xochi won the bet and how jesus showed gossip town that he wasn't fired.
It's interesting to see fc in a comedic role & so far the tn is keeping me interested. I'm kinda watching maria de el barrio reruns so my mind starts comparing him in tns. So far I like PEAM's fc way more than MdeB' fc. do not like that player boy vibe.
Thanks for the recap & love your title :)

Have to say, things got slightly better last night. Not so much junior high humor, seemed like we're getting some characters simmering antics down, and the three idiots were nowhere ( thank you). Still some to be aggravated over, but I felt a little hopeful.
I'm also kinda of loving Patticakes--the actress always cracks me up anyway, and love how she loves to just needle Rog. But I cannot abide Vero--please tell me what is with the germs phobia. The poor little thing goes to school--hello! germ city!. She is pushing that little girl towards Chucho by just being such a prat. (And hubby is doing the eyeball dance which is never a good sign for longevity of a couple.) First time Chucho lets that little one have fun, get dirty and be a kid she will be hooked.
They had better tone down the gay humor and abusive caddy fellow gals in pink or I may still have a hard time with this TN. This is considered humor in Mexico? Yikes?
That's another reason not to do remakes. It doesn't translate well to other cultures...
Favorite lines:
He doesn’t want to talk about all those hard meetings quickly thinking about what indeed was hard about them.
Maybe the two of them need some Pati-cake sessions for THERAPEUTIC benefit only.
I vote for some mud or real life to cure this child.
Fernando is already in his office laying the plans to get rid of the secretary since work is threatening to be done if he doesn’t get Jessica back soon.
And one from naughty, naughty Anita:
She may be the one to take his inseam measurements and find out which way he "dresses."
Oh goody, Alma and Rogue went on a date at last. I was beginning to wonder if they spent any time together at all. (I know that for some couples, limited exposure is the key to harmony!)
Vero has either led a very sheltered and privileged life, or has forgotten a lot of things about the real world, if she can't understand why Jesus might have to work late once in a while. Or why all of his coworkers might not recognize his name the week he starts his job. As for the germ phobia, does she realize that she is probably breeding a superbug in her own home?
How is it possible that Elias had no idea his wife was such a lunatic? Maybe she wasn't so bad until Jesus showed up!
Things do seem to be mellowing out a little bit (just a little). I'm holding out hope that the reindeer, at least the secretarias, will thaw out soon. They aren't mean to Xochi, so maybe they aren't really as nasty as they seem. (Maybe. Not so sure about Jessica!)
Faves:
"no hankyPaty in sight" and
[Alma] "a piece of executive property to prop his giant ego [Rogelio]
Right on Lady! If Fernando seems impossibly nasty, Elias seems impossibly noble and good. What, not even a twinge of jealousy that another male is moving in on his clearly beloved stepdaughter!? In real life, anyone would feel a bit threatened.
And the patience of a saint with his Screech of a wife! Hard to believe. Either a saint indeed, or very *****-whipped. Still, unbelievable or no, glad someone in that sterile household is on Chucho's side.
Definitely better show last night and even though Patty is relentlessly naughty, she's a delight while doing it. And she's so dissed by Rogelio, can't blame her for striking back. In effect, he's treating both his lover and his fiancée with great disrespect.
May his blood pressure rise and the rest of him droop. Take that Rogelio!
I'm enjoying this, for the most part. The only character I really can't stand is Fernando. He is aggravating, and not in a fun way. Can't they just send him to reform school already?
I thought Jesus should have just taken off the fuschia blouse and gone shirtless under the jacket. Who would have complained? Cardenas's claim that there is no possibility of changing the uniform is obviously crap. Everyone can see that the other secretaries are wearing variations on the theme. I hope Alma yells at Cardenas for wasting money on a uniform that is all wrong just to be mean.
I'm beginning to like it, some good moments. Jesus didn't look away very fast at seeing Alma desnuda.

"I loved the moment when Fernando saw all the work piled up in the copy room & assumed that Jésus hadn't done it -- so he could fire him. He twirled that mustach & did his little dance -- but we all know that even though it was busy work it was all done."
I'm confused about the paperwork, how did it get done if it is in the copy rm?
The only ep I really liked so far was last Tuesday's. I liked this one second. I fast forward through some people's scenes: usually the pink ladies' scenes, even though I miss Xochi's contributions--I like her, Rog's and Fer's, the three sillies, Pati when she's talking with Rog--I like Pati when she's not dealing with him. Last night I even had to ff through a scene with FC because the bimbo pink lady was annoying me with her background antics.
Vero is psychotic, but I have to say that Jesus need's to get on her good side and giving Val cotton candy on the sly is not going to do that.
Still hanging in there for another week or so.
OT: JudyB. I'm a vegetarian trying to go vegan, but have a problem with sweets and cheese.
Nanette
"With plenty of free time for hanky-panky and no hanky-Paty in sight..."
I'm glad that Pati has already won over a good number of our group. She is sort of Kristal (LldA) without the baggage.
I'm a little disappointed that Veronica has very few supporters here (I see that hand, jlk) so far. She is the most interesting and far and away the most complex character for me.
She raises so many questions:
How did she ever hook up with Chucho and make a baby?
As Julie asks:
"How is it possible that Elias had no idea his wife was such a lunatic?"
How is it that Val seems to be such a normal kid?
Can she smile?
And I don't understand the strong support here for Elias. He's amiable enough but he appears to be either medicated or neutered.
However, didn't he offer Jesús a drink similar to Amaretto or did I mishear? I thought that Veronica forbids EtOH in her house.
I felt sorry for Jesús over the uniform but then I feel sorry for all the ladies having to wear those horrible uniforms.
Have we seen that giant bear somewhere before? He looks familiar.
Carlos
I'm enjoying this novela. Much of the stuff on Telemundo I'm watching now is good, but dark. And we just finished up Pablo Escobar which was beyond dark.
What's not to like about Colunga doing comedy? I think he's doing a fabulous job. I love it when he gets verbose out of nervousness around Alma and can't stop. I noticed a couple of funny sound effects that didn't bother me too much. When he put his hand on his back, suffering from all night on the scanner, and they made a vertebrae cracking sound. And when Alma told him to be quiet in the car and they made a zipper sound as he moved his fingers across his mouth. Corny, but I liked it.
It was also funny when Alma dressed Fernando down for his fake scanning job to torment Jesús. She told him everything was backed up to the nube and he looked skyward as if searching for that puffy white cloud.
The uniforms are bad, but at least they're being fair about making all the support staff wear them. It really bothered me that in PESE, which was always about the feminist message, all the admin ladies had to wear the blue dresses, but Renato never had to wear a uniform, even when he was first hired as an administrative assistant.
It was also funny when Rogue got a big smile on his face at the thought that Jesús might be gay.
Blue Lass--Add me to the DEZNUUUUDAA fan club!
Carlos on Elias:
"He's amiable enough but he appears to be either medicated or neutered." LOLOLOL!!
Who coined Patticakes? I like that, too.
JudyB--I'm hoping for some drooping from Rogue, too.
Novelera-I'm hoping they do something that incorporate's Jesús' financial skills too. They certainly made a point of letting us know he's got them.
Incorporating Blue Lass and Julia's thoughts: I would love to see Jesús be the one to uncover Fernanderthal and Rogue's frow-day (ha!ha!) Thought I guess that would make more trouble for our favorite secretari-O.
Is it possible that the union requires the employer to provide uniforms to the secretaries? That would actually be very helpful to employees who don't need the expense of buying nice clothes for work, especially if the employer wants them to dress to a particular "standard." And extra-specially if it's a TN workplace where the employees will gossip and criticize one another's outfits mercilessly.
Julie- Great point about uniforms actually being a way to help lower salary employees look smart each day, without putting a dent in their pocketbooks. If only they weren't so hideous and uncomfortable looking. For Jesus, all he really needed was a black suit, white shirt, and black and fuchsia striped tie. They could have even added a black vest, and it would still look normal and classy. Why would they want a staff member, who is one of the first faces people will see, to look foolish?
I'm still mad that at the end of Eva, we didn't get to see the blue dresses break out of the prison of those curve hugging dresses.
They should ditch the vests and bring all the skirts to a reasonable length. Jesus can wear a fuschia shirt, but it should be a regular men's dress shirt. I vote bow tie.
So he could, theoretically, have been referring to the latter (maybe there's a fictitious Cosmetics Company Consortium), but a labor union would make far more sense. I only mention it in case they start talking about a makeup manufacturers' gremio.
I don't know if anyone said it but Alma didn't go to the office to take care of the problem. Jesus brought the laptop to Alma at the gym. She was sitting at the gym's cafe bar talking with the man from Spain. When she left to go to the women's locker room to change for work, her cell phone rings. Jesus saw it was Rogelio calling and proceeded to follow Alma - entering the ladies' locker room -- to give her the cell phone.
Has anyone noticed this? AVON spelled backwards is NOVA.
I think the guy used the measurements he guessed instead of the measurments that Jesus corrected him with.
I love the comments but I'm not a Paty fan. I'm having trouble warming up to this backstabber.
Who all thinks that Ferneanderthal or someone else is going to make Jesus miss his probation check-in at some point?
Or, this show could surprise me and NOT do that.
Julia-excellent plot call. I'm willing to bet Fernanderthal is going to screw up one of the check ins. From what's aired, I'm guessing this is going to be a somewhat predictable show (not a complaint...I'm really not picky.)
Does anyone think Vero will join evil forces with anyone? Or will she spread her bile all on her own? (Or has that question been asked already?_
I wonder if they toast the amaranth first. Toasted barley tea is quite delicious. Maybe the taste is similar?
