PEAM #13, March 27, 2013:: Pati and Chucho's lunch date makes Rogelio, Alma and Xochi jealous; Secretaries and Chucho: "All for one and one for all!"

Chucho tries using rich, fatty foods to convince Eli to keep his real job title a secret from Vero. Eli can't do it - Chucho continues to beg and plead - tonight's his first night with Valentina, it's so very important to him and his daughter - Eli still refuses to keep secrets from his wife.
The secretaries are at the coffee station chatting about Chucho and the marketing meeting. Susanah tells them about how Chucho helped her pick out the engagement ring and helped her plan the engagement party. Xochi cries as Susanah continues with her positive comments about Chucho.
As Eli gets on the elevator, Chucho continues to beg and plead for Eli to help him, give him time. Eli stays silent.
Alma and Rogelio argue in her office about Chucho's conduct and deception. She is upset over Rogelio and Fernando's objections and plans to try and get Chucho fired. A man enters and asks to speak with Chucho. Rogelio is in disbelief; the secretary is now planning promotions, too.
Chucho returns to the office - he apologizes to them for insulting them and their work for the company. He then tells them thank you, because of your little song and joking around, he may lose any chance he may have had to know his little girl. Xochi cries and the rest pout.
Chucho visits Alma in her office. He thanks her for her help (switching positions) then tells her about Eli. He is so depressed and thinks he lost his daughter for good. Alma tells him the good news - the marketing department likes his promo idea. He smiles, but his heart is breaking.
At home, Eli meets with Vero. She has prepared a totally organic, vegan dinner. Eli starts to think about what Chucho told him. Vero asks what happened at the meeting at Avon. Eli says Chucho was there at the meeting; she is impressed that Chucho (Jesus) is working with the marketing department of the company.
In Rogelio's office, Fernando is furious and wants to get rid of Chucho. Rogelio tells him if he tries to fire Chucho, that could mean the end of his engagement to Alma. Chucho enters and apologizes to both Rogelio and Fernando, and asks them for another chance. Rogelio grumbles.
At home, with Vero watching him, Eli is still thinking about Chucho's pleas.
Chucho is on the phone as Mari and Xochi gossip nearby. Pati enters and approaches Chucho's desk. She sits on his desk and flirts with him. She convinces him to take her to lunch.
Vero presses Eli for details about Jesus (Chucho). Valentina enters and shows her new drawing - this one includes Papi Chucho's place. She's so excited to be spending the night with him. When Val leaves, Vero asks about the meeting with the executives from France. Eli assures her that Chucho has a very important job with Avon.
Pati meets with Alma in her office. Pati asks for permission to go to lunch with Chucho. Alma says yes. Pati is excited and skips out of the office. As Pati passes by Xochi and leaves with Chucho, Xochi starts to cry.
Pati and Chucho are on the street. They get to the restaurant -- Luigi's Italian Restaurant. Chucho wants to turn around and go somewhere else. Pati insists on eating here and pulls him inside. Chucho and the Head Chef recognize each other. Chucho apologizes before Chef takes Pati to a table inside.
Alma meets with Rogelio in her office. They discuss the ad campaign then she stuns him with the news that Pati is out to lunch with Chucho. Rogelio starts to stutter - Alma explains that Chucho and Pati met at the gym. Rogelio blurts out that he thought Chucho was gay. Alma says that isn't true, Chucho is a man who likes women (he's definitely heterosexual).
Chucho and Pati sit at their table. Pati's cell phone rings. She excuses herself and answers it. It's Rogelio to grumble at her for going to lunch with Alma's secretary. Pati refuses to listen and hangs up. Pati returns to the table and starts to tell Chucho her sob story about her bad luck with boyfriends.
The 3 sillies bother the secretaries in the cafeteria. They try to joke around and sing their little secretario song, but the secretaries aren't playing along. They scold the dudes about how much problems their practical joke caused Rogelio and Chucho. Xochi, Jessica, Mari and Susanah band together and declare battle against the 3 sillies (hombres vs. mujeres).
Rogelio decides to take Alma to lunch - at Luigi's. They can get some fresh air, some lunch and talk.
At the restaurant, Pati cries to Chucho about how horrible her boyfriend has been mistreating her. Chucho asks, Why? She says, "For love. Have you ever been in love?" He responds, love shouldn't mean abuse. He starts to reveal his suspicions over who this horrible boyfriend may be, but Pati deflects the guesses and changes the subject to "what are you doing tonight?" Chucho says he will be taking care of his daughter at his place tonight. Then he proudly pulls out his photo of Valentina and shows it to Pati.
At the office, the secretaries talk about Chucho and Pati at lunch together. Susanah and Mari think they should respect his privacy. Xochi is upset - but agrees to do whatever the group wants.
Chucho gives Pati some advice about getting over her boyfriend problems. Meanwhile, Rogelio speeds into the parking lot and parks. He runs away from the car and Alma shouts for him to slow down, what's your hurry? He says, he's hungry, come on, let's go inside and eat. Alma sits down at the table. Pati and Chucho see her there. Pati excuses herself. Chucho goes over to talk with her. Alma is very understanding (and it seems a little jealous) about his lunch date with her BFF. In a quiet hallway, Rogelio and Pati argue over her choice in lunch companions. She suspects he's jealous. He says no, no. She says, yes, you're jealous of Chucho. At the table, Chucho tells Alma that he isn't dating Pati - he's there just to be a friend, she has a boyfriend. Alma is stunned - she had no idea.
At the office, Jessica tries to cheer up Xochi. Xochi cries even more; she says there isn't anything between her and Jesus (Chucho). Mari and Susanah try to cheer up Xochi and scold Jessica for making her cry. Xochi doesn't think Chucho will ever look at her or trust her again.
When Rogelio comes to the table, Chucho excuses himself. Alma tells Rogelio that Chucho told her Pati has a boyfriend. Rogelio is stunned and chokes on his water. He asks Alma to leave now. Rogelio goes over to Chucho and Pati and tells him he will pay for lunch. Then he tells Chucho he must leave to get back to work also. Chucho follows Alma and Rogelio out of the restaurant. Pati celebrates her victory (making Rogelio jealous).
Back at the office, Rogelio orders Chucho to go to the airport this afternoon and pick up his precious little puppy, Samson. He shows Chucho his photos on his cell phone. Alma rolls her eyes. Rogelio tells him the exact time to be at the airport and don't be late. Alma advises Chucho, 'do not screw this one up at all." Chucho assures them both he won't.
In Rogelio's office, Rogelio asks Chucho to say what Pati told him about her boyfriend. Chucho repeated all the negative adjectives she used. Rogelio stops him. Then changes the subject and gives Chucho enough money for an expensive, clean taxi to pick up Samson. He gives Chucho well-detailed instructions for caring for his baby - apparently it was his mother's dog and Rogelio loved his mommy very much. Rogelio takes out a silver case and shows Chucho the little doggy booties to put on Samson for the ride in the taxi - so he doesn't get his little paws dirty. Chucho promises to take very good care of Samson.
Susanah pulls Chucho into the ladies room - for a private meeting of the secretaries' club. They wish to apologize for making his first days on the job a nightmare, and are now welcoming him into the group as a colleague and friend. Susanah says, "Santa Paz." Chucho agrees, "Santa Paz." He hugs and kisses each of them. Xochi is 'fangirling' as he hugs her. Chucho then gives them two thumbs up and they shout, "All for one and one for all!"

Now, don't we know from the first minute Rogelio asks Jesús to go and get the dog, he is going to lose him?? Well... one more thing Jesús will screw up. Why change the story if is still working, right?
Rogelio told Alma she should get out of the office to ''despabilarse'', get fresh air, etc. I must highlight that the right word is ''espabilarse''.

Wonderful, detailed recap. Jessica was the only one not really involved in that bathroom meeting. I think she resents Chucho still for "taking" her job. I do like that Suzanna, Mari and Xochi are all on his side now and especially against the three sillies.
I had to laugh at Rogue trying to deny he was jealous to Patimelt. She is really a hoot, and she also had the running mascara, lol.
I agree with Pablo, I too think this dog pick up will be screwed up big time and it seems it is the same taxi driver too. Can't wait to see what happens.

I know I have to suspend "a lot" belief when watching this telenovela in particular, but I had a real hard time suspending enough belief and almost jumped ship tonight. Rogelio's over the top reaction to and inappropriate interest in Jesús having lunch with Paty wasn't the problem. The problem was the writers making Alma so stupid that she didn't catch on to Rogelio's romantic interest in Paty. The puppy adventure tomorrow may provide some actual humor and keep me aboard one more night. At this point it is the recappers and my fellow commenters that are keeping me going.

Rogelio was pretty funny too. A bit over the top but funny. I like his dismissive "whatever" bit.
I'm glad that the secretaries are on Jésus' side now -- but the eavesdropping Jessica is going to be trouble -- and the war between the men & the women in the office may be good for some laughs.

I won't be excited about the dog unless he embarrasses Rogue frequently. What I'm more excited about is the fact that Chucho has finally bonded with the secretaries. I couldn't bear much more of Everybody Hates Chucho.
In the US, "aubergine" is mostly used as a color name for clothing and makeup.
I rarely hear or see "aubergine" for eggplant except in very old and/or European cookbooks.
But since we're on the subject, "courgette" is a zucchini. I don't encounter it often, but it's more common than "aubergine."

I was happy to finally see the secretaries move to Chucho's camp. Although poor Jessica still feels like he took her job.
Why do Alta and Fertonto have to share a secretary anyway? It's not like they're holding Fer to some high work standard, so why not let him have his very own sexcretary, while Alta and Jesus do the real work, like they're doing anyway.
Or, why can't the just give Jesus a job in the field where he has expertise-- accounting?
I know. Too logical. And then there would be no funny drama.

A fine recap, Jody. I like your short paragraphs with just the right detail.
Thoroughly enjoying watching Rogelio make an ass of himself and it happens so easily. Also enjoying Pati greatly and the actress seems to be having a really good time w/ the role.
Re the veggies, they certainly had a large part in our learning Brit English when we were stationed over there. Aubergines and courgettes and marrows (what we call squash, IIRC) ((Blue, what's a 'pulse'?)) and rutabagas were called swedes, too. I'm sure there were other that aren't coming to mind just now.

Jody, What a great job of detailing the story even if it is so silly. Thank you for all your work on this episode. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it this morning.
I got my wish that Vero would do something to annoy Elias so he would end up praising Chucho instead of betraying him. I thought she would rant and rave but, no, he is now having fantasies about real food so Chucho was effective in making him rethink Veronica's cardboard cuisine. Hurray, now Valentina will be able to make her visit.
I have a few friends who can make totally delicious vegetarian cuisine. I don't think Vero knows them however. I wish she would get over her fear driven need to control the life out of everything.

Thank you Jody! Really appreciate your recap as there were many interruptions last night. So glad Elias covered for Chucho even though Vero suspects something's up. Speaking of suspicion, Alma should be all the way to conviction the way Rogue threw a hissy fit over Chucho and Patti's being together! Sheesh! That was such fun watching him fume and sputter! Loved the reconciliation with the other secretaries and Xochi's bliss at that big ole' hug she got from Chucho! Fun episode, fine recap!

Thanks Jody. Last night we seemed to get everyone but the keystone cops--wait, maybe with the doggie episode that may happen tonight. What's a TN comedy without inept police?
Thank the heavens the secretaries( well most) are siding now with Chucho and maybe that will put a stop to that stupid, inane ranting of him being a male secretary. Frankly, we have a lot of male administrative assistants in our global corporation (including Latin America), so I wasn't getting why it was so awful for Chucho, but whatever. Need to park a lot of questions at the door with this TN.
Eli had me worried there for awhile, but he's back on my good dude list. I want that bromance with he and Chucho to keep going. Plus he's too cute to be mad at for long.
My one worry, the neon signs are flashing that there just has to be a mix-up with the doggie. But then it's also Val's night at his place, so if anything happens that prevents that happening for Chucho I'll scream. Rog should have picked up his own dog, although I feel sorry for the furry little guy. What an owner. Watching it was super-enjoyable because Pattimelt just stole the show. But was also very impressed with Xochi's subtle displays of guilt and regret. She's a wonderful dramatic actress and Pattimelt is a terrific comedienne. Made it very worth watching.

JudyB, the original eggplants were smaller and off-white colored, so they really did look like eggs. The big purple ones are a later development.

The first time I saw an eggplant (black) I was visiting relatives in Baytown and went to the Sak-n-save store. Since I never saw a ''berenjena'' back at home, I made a joke calling it ''planta de huevo''. Later on I tried myself and I liked it.

We do have some smaller white ones here now that they call Japanese eggplants but I've always known the big ol' purple beasts.
I like them mashed up with tahini, garlic, lemon-juice and a ton of salt (don't tell Vero about the salt! Since I don't have high blood pressure, sure not motivated to ditch the shaker)

I enjoyed this episode, except for the Idiot Reindeer. They still aren't fun. I'm glad the secretaries are on Chulo's team now, though.
I thought it was very funny how Paticake was hanging on Jesus and crying, and he just kept eating his sandwich through out.
I think Alma is starting to get a clue that Rogue is very off, but she can't quite put a finger on what exactly is his problem, and she is in the awkward situation of having him as her boss as well as her fiance.
How many meals a day do the employees get in the office? They were eating salad and cake before Elias arrived, when Alma and Jesus were at the gym, and then they were in the cafeteria eating again when everyone else went to Luigi's. Their schedule baffles me.

Vivi, there's my problem. My Emilia beanie has been lovingly wrapped and put in a drawer for a couple TN's. I think it needs to be brought back out and left near the TV for regular wearing if I'm keeping up with this one. Thanks for the reminder!

I don't think Rogue ever knew the cigars were missing, but he knew it took Chucho a reeeeeeaaaaallllly long time to run that errand, which is a screw-up.
Nanette...To get the right proportions, you would probably want to look for recipes for Baba Ghanoush (or however it's spelled). One of my Middle Eastern friends makes it with yogurt also, but if you're trying to go vegan, that's out. It's plenty good without anyway.
I love the language discussion. Aubergines. Yes, I think Vero is a little pretentious. The chef saying overhead instead...that's funny. From now on, if one of my projects isn't making money it's because we have too much aubergine.
I learned a bunch of different words for foods when I was in Argentina but now I can't remember a lot of them. Paltas instead of aguacates. That one I remember; avocados tend to stick in the brain.

I saw last night's show....The story line is a little weak, maybe Pat and Chucho will spice things up. ... If Chucho is paying his child support, Vero can't keep him from visiting his daughter. Maybe things are different in Mexico.
Jessica, and Patrica make this show worth watching. Alma's not bad either, but something about her seems out of place in the Telenovela....

Sorry about the Hoosiers Nanette...I would have liked to see 4 Big Ten teams in the Final Four but for now, just very grateful that Ohio State has made the Elite 8. Maybe next year for the Hoosiers....
