Qué Bonito Amor #7 (Mex 10-11.1) Tuesday 4/23/13 "Singing in the Rain" -- No; Just Cold, Wet and Kissable
Starting with the events going down in Los Angeles:
We find The Orange One talking to the godfather, the little rat is trying to plant evidence against our hero! He is going to plant pictures and a list of buyers for the police to find, making it seems like Jorge Alfredo really is guilty. I say we vote Giuliano off the island and send him back to the Jersey Shore where he belongs! [Pardon me for breaking in, Anita says to fit him out with cement boots, too, muy de moda.]
Also in LA we find El Comandante Derecho and his assistant Curtis who have now received a photo of Jorge Alfredo shaking hands with a known mob boss. To them this is enough proof of his guilt and they resolve to show the photo to Justo. Maybe having proof that his son is in fact guilty will make Justo spill the beans about Jorge’s location. Our little investigators eventually make their way the Garza household where they are met by a cranky Justo who is fed up with the baseless accusations being made against his son, the Comandante tells papa Garza that they have photographic proof of Jorge meeting with a mob boss, the look on his face tells us that he is starting to doubt his sons innocence.
Now for the events in Mexico:
Jorge and Maria have said their goodbyes and have agreed to meet the next morning at 9:30, viewerville sees that neither Maria nor Jorge want to part as they each stand on opposite sides of the door both wearing looks on their faces that tell us they are in love. Maria finally looks up and sees her mom standing there giving her a disapproving look, before she can say anything her mom sends her straight to bed. We then get a sweet scene of Maria in bed, thinking about Jorge, on the other side of town our hero lays in bed and thanks his mother for sending Maria to protect him, at the same time we see Jorge’s mother in Los Angeles looking sad and worried and holding a picture of her baby boy (so sad! And shout out to Apple, you know you’ve made it when Televisa pimps your product!)
It is now a new day in Mexico and Jorge Alfredo is making his way to Maria’s house. He stops and has a little chat with his landlady, Doña Prudencia, who points out he is looking good (viewerville agrees), then helps her out with one of the old songs. We are also treated to a scene of Paloma acting like a stalker by ringing Gloria’s door bell and running away. She is sad because this is the third time her crush has failed to come to the door. I’m wondering how many times she has done this? She might need professional help. Anyhoo, Jorge Alfredo finally makes it to Maria’s and shows up with a bouquet of flowers for Paloma, who asks him if he is Maria’s prince! Jorge acts like a total class act and finally they sit down at the table where Maria holds his hand (aww) as they say grace and I don't know what they are eating but it made me hungry!
End of part 1
Stay tuned for part 2 where we will cover Jorge Alfredo’s Epic meltdown.
Now that their tummies are full our love birds make their way to an internet café where Jorge Alfredo sends an e-mail to his family. He writes that this whole situation is a nightmare, but what hurts him the most is knowing that his loved ones are suffering because of him, he looks like he has shed a tear and Maria comes over and she wipes away the tears (she is a keeper!).
They finally make it to the vendor who will be renting them the mariachi suit but they get a nasty surprise. The price he is asking for is much higher than what he used to charge and there is no way Jorge Alfredo can pay that amount and also pay for his rent and save for his trip back to LA. Disgusted with the merchant Maria drags Jorge Alfredo away and tells him there is no way they are going to pay that amount for the suit. The pair are then approached by a little boy selling candy. He manages to get Jorge to buy some mazapan which he then gives to Maria, and this is when the best line of the night is said, as he gives her the candy he tells her “Here take these and as you’re eating them remember me and remember there was once a man, and that this man once invested everything he had in you.” (Marry me! Scream the female viewers.) She gives him a blushing smile and they go sit in the plaza, where they discuss how to get a suit for him. Maria suggests making one and borrowing money from some of the guys for a few days in order to buy fabric, Jorge is having none of it, there is no way she is going to borrow money on his behalf, he will just rent the suit, after all this is just a temporary situation and in a few weeks he will be back home.
Maria walks Jorge home and they make plans for later in the day, she is going to the bar and he will meet her there, but first he will stop by the café to see if his family has replied to the email he sent. Fast forward to our boy checking his e-mail, Daddy Justo (who is not doing his name any justice) has replied with a scathing e-mail, he tears into Jorge for running away and for putting them all in this terrible situation and even questions his innocence telling him that there’s new evidence that suggests he is a bad apple! Jorge is horrified that his father would think him capable to committing any illegal activities. As it turns out Jorge’s mother feels the same way and we see her and Justo engaged in an argument. Justo is demanding that Jorge come back and face the authorities and if he is innocent why did he leave the country? His wife then points out that their son left only after she begged him to and with the advice of their trusted lawyer! This is their son who he saw grow up, he saw him take his first steps and this is the same boy whose first word was not “mother” but rather “father.” (We hoped this tongue lashing were enough to shame Justo for not believing in his son but even if Justo reconsiders I’m still annoyed with him and think he should return any mugs or t-shirts that say “number 1 dad,” also no Father’s Day gifts for at least a decade.)
The e-mail from hell has put Jorge in a bad mood and he fails to meet Maria as agreed, she of course thinks that something bad has happened to him and goes to his place to check up on him, once there he tells her that he is fine, he just lost track of time, she tries to figure out what’s gotten in to him, and asks if it’s woman trouble he is having. He replies that no, there are only two women he loves...pause…while Maria holds her breath…his mother and his sister (ummm, do you know your sister, we all wonder). At any rate Maria has her protector hat back on and tries to get Jorge to open up and then she starts in on him for not eating properly and that’s when he snaps.
He tells her that he is tired of her having to take care of him. She has no money and is just making ends meet and here she is trying to look after him. He is just fed up with the whole situation (dude, it’s only been like 3 days, chill out!). Maria, stricken by his words asks if he wants her to leave and he says, “Yes, go, get out of here!” And so she does. Jorge, upset by having treated Maria so poorly and by all his troubles collapses to the floor and sings us a sad song about how life sucks. He is struggling with his emotions, gnashing of teeth, pulling of hair, crying out in pain. He can’t have it both ways. He either has to go back to L.A. and face the music and try to prove his innocence (which will mean jail for sure) or stay where he is incognito, abandon his family, start a new life and not be separated from Maria. Viewerville holds its collective breath while he agonizes. He finally gives one last agonizing grito and calls her name—M A R I A— which is really inconsiderate of him considering it’s probably really late. He then runs out the door with no shoes on (did I mention that it started to rain?) and goes after his lady love. He almost gets hit by a car but he’s a trooper and no little car will keep him away from the beautiful Maria. He finally reaches her and in the middle of the street in the heavy rain takes her in his arms and they finally KISS! A long one, fijate. Yay, the crowds go wild!
There is one problem with this tangled union. He’s never been in love before, he doesn’t know how to love. (BTW, it’s still raining out there.) Maria-Bonita doesn’t think that’s going to be a problem—we don’t think she’s ever been in love either, but that’s not what will keep them apart. Other things are looming.

Looking forward to your first recap : )
I swooned when Alfredo and Maria kissed. I thought they would drag that out foreva. It was nice to finally see them kiss : )
And I am guessing that infidelity was probably the main crime against her relationship with him.
At least we didn't have to wait 19 episodes for the first real kiss.
Anita, La Dama del Queso
Now, maybe she has high hopes Maria will find someone at school, but do we know whether Maria has quit school or not? They did hava a discussion about it. (We've never seen her inside a classroom--were we told what she is studying?).
She was positively disposed to Jorge Alfredo at first, but Coloso has put a lot of negative points in her head--and they do make sense: no papers, no money, "mooching" off Maria, wants to go back to L.A. but didn't--what's a mother to think.
She does want Maria to be cautious because you remember your first love forever.
I also had the feeling that Amalia doesn't want Maria falling in love, marrying and leaving home no matter who it is. She isn't worried about Oscar's attentions because she knows Maria isn't into Oscar, and if Maria ever did get with Oscar, he'd be attentive towards Amalia as a way to keep in good with Maria.
I think Amalia sees herself in Maria and Pedro in Santos.
I wonder how much of the truth Santos will tell Maria after she confronts him about the newspaper tonight?
OT
Anyone notice that Angelica marias dog made another appearance. Must be an uncredited cast mmber.
UA, Anita and Anon207, Maria's mother and the reasons she does not trust Santos was one of our main points of discussion when a group of us was discussing LHDM while watching it. It was like an addiction, discussing whether we agreed with her 'advice' for Maria, how far should she try to influence Maria vs letting Maria live through her experiences and feelings, etc etc... whether she was projecting 'Pedro' into Santos, whether that was fair or not, whether she was being equal in judging/criticizing ALL of Maria's boyfriends, etc etc...
and I too caught the white poodle dog on the couch, esp when something fell on him.
Before much more time goes by I'm sure Amalia is going to wish all her daughters would become nuns.
Of course I loved the kiss with all of the the thunder and lightening. I also got a kick out of the neighbor Prudenica (?) trying to sing "La historia de un amor".

Welcome back Rogelio... we've missed you.

Since Santos owns a string of dealerships of luxury automobiles shouldn't somebody point out that he could have just sold Tony Soprano or Paulie Walnuts a Lamborghini?
It will be interesting to see what he says tonight when faced with that newspaper article.
BNinCA
If anybody knows this.
Some fav lines:
"maybe he has a Maria shrine set up somewhere in his apartment"
"Someone update that shopping list and add tequila"
"I bet with her extra services she wins this award every month!"
I think they tried to establish in the first episode that Santos was a playboy and loved playing the field even though many attractive, available and appropriate ladies had thrown themselves at him. His mother was constantly urging him to pick one and settle down, but essentially told her, all in good time, I have to find the right girl and fall in love with her. Which he did!!
In the real world, however, I would really worry about the psyche of a person who reaches that age without falling in love. Someone like that is either severely damaged, a control freak, or a mama's boy. Santos doesn't seem to be any of those things.
Or send money (via Western Union)?
Especially now that his father is beginning to believe he's guilty of something.
I forgot to record this episode so I missed the kiss. I love first kisses in the rain (like in AB) so I'm going to have to search for this one. :)
