Corazon Indomable, #5 Friday, 05/17/13 A wedding, a wedding reception, a wedding night…But where is the diamond?

Yesterday Octavio and Maricruz became novios and kissed in front of the village gossips (que escandalo!); Octavio asked Abuelo for Mari’s hand in matrimony; Lucia found out she is pregnant, but the poor baby needs to fight for its life because mom is on the verge of a stroke when she finds out who her SIL will be…

Today…
Outside the hut Solita is helping Maricruz wash her hands as Abuelo notices that a while ago Mari didn’t care that much about being clean. Then he asks her what she’s planning to wear for her wedding. With Moctavio on her shoulders (yey!), Maricruz says that she’ll borrow a neighbor’s daughter quinceanera dress. Abuelo is a little worried because tradition says the father of the bride has to buy the dress, but Maricruz reassures him that Octavio won’t mind, since he knows they don’t have money.

They get interrupted by a car coming to the hut, but it’s not Octavio, it’s future brother-in-law, Miguel. He came to ask Abuelo if he really thinks his brother Octavio is in love with Maricruz, because honestly, the differences between them are to big. Maricruz and Abuelo try to explain him how Octavio was the one who came to ask for her hand. Miguel calls Octavio crazy and lets them know that his brother is only trying to get back at him and he couldn’t find a better way than to marry Maricruz. Then he offers to give them money to leave far away and forget all about this story.

Lucia and a pink dress meet Simona and tell her that Octavio is planning to marry “la basura esa de Maricruz Olivares”.

Octavio is in the living room, reading the newspaper, as Maria comes in carrying a mattress. When asked, she explains that Senora Lucia ordered for the mattress to be taken out of Octavio’s future marital bedroom. Before leaving she asks him if he’s really planning to marry Maricruz for the right reasons, or he just wants to use the girl to upset his bro and SIL, because Mari is a really good girl, that hasn’t yet been tarnished by all the evil in the world and that needs defending. Octavio promises to do just that and Maria finally leaves.

He goes up the stairs and into his future bedroom and is pretty amused when he sees that Lucia removed all the fancy (not at all pretty) decorations. He is sure Maricruz won’t even notice this but then remembers Maria’s words about his future wife’s innocence and decides that he is going to love her, teach her how to behave and defend her from his relatives bad treatment. “No lo voy a permitir” he says, and Viewerville just knows that means just the opposite.

Back at the hut Maricruz doesn’t want to believe Miguel when he says Octavio will leave her the moment he gets bored, she trusts her fiance. Finally, the unwanted guest leaves, not before warning them they’ll be sorry.

Teleporting back at the house, Miguel is telling Lucia that he couldn’t convince Maricruz to change her mind. Lucia doesn’t want to share her life with the “basura”, but Miguel reminds her that Octavio has as many rights to the house as they do and all they can do is try to isolate themselves from Maricruz and not let Octavio know they are hurt by his behavior, because this is exactly what he wants. Lucia is afraid of what people will say, but Miguel insists that Octavio will suffer the most with this, because he won’t be able to get along with Maricruz and he’ll end up leaving. But that doesn’t calm Lucia to much, because she is afraid Maricruz will be left with them; but not to worry, she is already plotting for a way to throw the girl out of the house the moment Octavio leaves. So I guess we have that to look forward to…

Maricruz and Abuelo are reading the girl’s birth certificates – because she has two!! One with the name given by her father, Maria Alejandra Mendoza Olivares, and the other one issued by her mother, after she left Alejandro – this one has the name Maricruz Olivares only, and the father section is left vacant.

Maricruz doesn’t seem to understand too much of this, but when Abuelo suggests that she should use her first birth certificate (the legal one, I might add), she refuses, because she prefers to get married with the name she is used to (illegal wedding alert!). Also, she asks Abuelo not to tell Octavio that she has two certificates, she even wants to destroy the one with the fancy name, but thanks God for Abuelo, who surely knows sooner rather than later another birth certificate will come in handy, when Mari will have to take on another identity, in order to exact revenge on the ones who’ve harmed her.

Octavio, Miguel and their two pretty horses meet somewhere on the ranch and Octavio asks for money to buy a dress and shoes for his bride. How he feels about the wedding? Well, he’s experienced enough not to get excited about things like this anymore (is this his tenth wedding or something?)

Miguel remarks how interesting he finds his brother’s romance with Cinderella (and although Miguel is a villain, I find him rather funny in moments like this) and thinks that in time every woman can be turned into whatever one wants, even a princess. Octavio cuts him off asking for money again, but Miguel doesn’t have it (couldn’t Lucia cheap in with one of her dresses? If only she had something fancy enough for a wedding…) Miguel leaves, not before wishing Octavio to enjoy his revenge, just as much as he, himself, will enjoy his own. Left alone, Octavio thinks to himself that the Narvaez ranch will soon become an “inferno”. All the more reason to go forward, right, Octavio?

A few days go by and Miguel and Lucia, both dressed in black, are very giddy about the fact that they have IT all ready for whatever they are planning to do; Miguel explains that he hid the van the night before, so the newlyweds can’t use it - this, after we’ve just seen a shot of the house, with the van parked just outside. Anyway, they are both very proud of themselves and I wonder what will they hide next, the bathroom towels, the good cookies from the pantry?

As a hint of a wedding march fades away, we see Maricruz and Octavio signing the wedding papers in what has to be the most depressingly run down city hall I’ve ever seen. Maricruz can barely sign her name (oh boy!), while Octavio seems to be pretty shaken by the absurdity of what he’s doing.

She seems to be wearing one of her normal dresses (no quinceanera outfit, then?) and she has a flower in her tangled hair. Octavio is wearing a plain shirt and from the rest of the people in attendance (Abuelo, Maria and Solita) Maria seems to be the best dressed.

So they got married….4 ½ episodes gone, about 150 to go.

On their way back to the hut, Solita is crying and Abuelo is feeling very bad that he had to say goodbye to Maricruz. His clothes all crumpled, he explains Maria that it was difficult for him to see his grand daughter marry that man. Maria tries to comfort him that at least she didn’t marry some poor schmuck (and Viewerville now knows that Maria is not a very good judge of character).  Getting ready to leave, Maria asks Solita to accompany her to go pick something (I guess it’s food, but just as Solita, I didn’t understand what it was).

So, after a little bit of flirting between Abuelo and Maria (!), the next thing we see is two pairs of feet, mainly the newlyweds. Maricruz is crying because she misses her family and because her feet hurt with the old shoes, so Octavio asks her to take them off if that would make her feel better. When she kind of resists this idea, he takes them off himself (and how pretty feet she has, for someone who always walks barefoot). Octavio says he loves the idea that she’ll arrive at the house not wearing any shoes, it will be a triumphant arrival (shame on you, Octavio, shame on you!).

Back at the house, the cook (or Gandalf’s sister, as I like to call her because of that long silver hair) is in the newlywed’s room and she puts on single white rose on the table.

Walking toward the big house, Maricruz reminds Octavio that it’s been a few days since their last kiss. He promises that now, since they are married, there will be many, many kisses between them, as he bends to give her one. (And the chemistry between them is just right, which will come in handy while watching this tn). He might think she is an innocent, ignorant girl, but he doesn’t seem to mind the kissing.

They finish walking to the house, embraced and all. When they get inside, Maricruz is overwhelmed by all the wealth, but gets interrupted by an entire party showing up to congratulate them. Lucia kisses Maricruz, Simona kisses Octavio and there are some others in the background applauding. Octavio is surprised and uncomfortable with the welcoming committee, but Lucia prepared a cake and drinks, they couldn’t let the day go by just like this. It is so obvious this is all set up for Maricruz to fail, I’m almost too afraid to watch.

Octavio and Maricruz cut the cake with Octavio carefully taking care that Maricruz does it right and then Lucia makes a toast, after noticing that the bride is not wearing any shoes; anyway, she asks Mari to drink from her champagne, which obviously (OBVIOUSLY) she doesn’t like and spits in a very inelegant manner. Everybody is laughing, as Maricruz almost chokes to death, but at least Octavio is there with her, to help.

Abuelo and Solita are kind of mourning Maricruz and Abuelo says that Solita will leave one day, too.

At party central, Miguel calls Octavio aside to tell him they didn’t want to make a tragedy out of things and that is why they decided to accept his decision. But Octavio realizes their intent to ridicule Maricruz and it only makes him laugh. Lucia asks for a kiss, which Octavio does in front of everybody (what did Lucia expect, really?)

Maria gives Maricruz cake and the girl asks about Abuelo. Lucia advices her to use cutlery, but Octavio encourages her to eat with her hands, while he is doing the same, to everybody’s horror.

When night comes, Maricruz and Octavio go to their room. She is ecstatic, of course, can’t believe she is going to sleep there. He wants to get out so she can change, but then realizes she doesn’t have anything else to wear. So he gets out of the room, although Maricruz doesn’t want to be left alone.

He goes to Lucia to borrow some night gowns, but Lucia offers to give them one as a gift instead. Miguel can’t believe what his brother is doing, but Octavio reassures him that he doesn’t care that he is not in some fancy hotel somewhere (with rich Simona), because waiting for him in his room is a beautiful, passionate woman; and that is what a man wants. But Miguel doesn’t agree that this is all a man needs in a woman (even if this is correct, in theory, Viewerville still has to laugh, because look who Miguel chose as a wife). Lucia comes back with sexy lingerie and after the brothers biker a little because Miguel didn’t give Octavio money to buy Mari clothes, Lucia puts on an entire show about wanting to help Maricruz, who’s not to blame for being the way she is. Miguel, too, says he has no other option than to respect Maricruz as another member of the family. Octavio is surprised to hear this, but Lucia reassures him that both she and her husband want to live in peace. Lucia is the perfect hypocrite, no doubt about it, but to his credit, Miguel at least doesn’t put on a smiley face.

Maricruz is in the room, on her belly, with a pillow covering her head and doesn’t want to get changed when Octavio asks her to. When she sees what she is supposed to wear, her face is all “what on Earth…”

In their room, Lucia tells Miguel that once Octavio will be convinced of their good intentions, all blame will fall on the “basura”. Miguel wants to know what she’s planning, but Lucia isn’t yet willing to share her plans. Miguel doesn’t want wifey to get too stressed out because of the baby, but Lucia is doing all this FOR her baby. When Miguel mentions the rights Maricruz will have as Octavio’s wife, Lucia reminds him that divorce is always a possibility. She is sure Octavio won’t stand to live with Maricruz, she’ll take care that Maricruz never changes and she’ll make her life a nightmare while Octavio is away.

Back in the honeymoon painting-less room, Maricruz insists she wants to sleep in her dress, because with the outfit Octavio brought her she will be practically naked (I guess Abuelo didn’t have “the birds and the bees” talk with her). She admits that she is ashamed even if they are married, so Octavio agrees to turn his back while she changes. No peaking, she warns him, as she reluctantly starts to undress.

Finally changed, she gets into bed, covered from head to toe. But Octavio insists he wants to see her with the gown, even if she is very ashamed still. Finally she lets go of the blanket and he reassures her that he likes her even more like this. They start to kiss and Maricruz wonders if they are not committing some kind of sin…No, Octavio says, they are married and in love.

So, kiss, kiss, hand holding and caressing, the white sheets, his shirt comes off…

It’s the next morning, Maricruz is slowly opening her eyes to her new reality. She is alone, in bed.
Miguel and Octavio are in the dinning room, Miguel says he’ll start work early today, they need the money more than ever now, when they have another mouth to feed in the house, one that has been so hungry for such a long time - surely she will eat for two. Octavio doesn’t disagree with this (gees, he’s quite the prize, isn’t he?), but I wonder: shouldn’t they be worried for Lucia, too, then, since she’s pregnant?

Octavio offers to join Miguel, since from now on he is no longer just visiting, but living with them. Lucia comes in, finds out they’ll be away until lunch. Her crooked smile lets us know she is up to no good.

Maricruz gets out of the room, after taking her dress over the night gown – and the night gown is, obviously, longer (it would be hard to be otherwise, with the length of her dresses). She meets Ofelia in the hallway, asks for Octavio and then decides to just go look for him on the fields. Barefoot, Ofelia asks, almost choking in her own venom, but Maricruz doesn’t even notice.

She gets out of the house and ends up at the stables. Jose Antonio, one of the workers, tells her Octavio and Miguel are gone, so Mari decides to follow them.

At the hut, Maria is visiting Abuelo, they talk about Maricruz, Abuelo misses her a lot.

Maricruz arrives and the reunion is very joyful, but then she asks about Octavio, because she has no idea where he is. Abuelo tells her that she should have waited for him home, since she is his wife now. But Maricruz doesn’t like the ranch, she prefers the hut. And she no longer has the night gown, whatever did she do with it, left it on the fields?

Back at the ranch, Lucia is searching for Maricruz, she wants to start messing up with her, now that they are alone.

Maybe Maria meant she was glad Maricruz didn't marry some POOR shmuck. He's a rich one.

Those after-wedding scenes were a little hard to watch. I know she's supposed to be 19 (as someone said the other day), but emotionally she's more like 14. Octavio should have been there in the morning to take care of her (and take her shopping for crying out loud), and maybe wait to consummate things until Lady Gandolf explains this 'sex' thing to her. He lost points, big time.

What is heavier? One pound of feathers or one pound of stones?

María was panting all her way down carrying a comforter that as I could see, didn't look heavy at all...

Add to that (assuming that the comforter was full of wet wool) one helpful guy. Octavio saw María in so much distress carrying that heavy thing and he let her do it by herself while he stayed there doing nothing just thinking of ways to get revenge against his brother, LOL!

Did anybody get to see what brand the truck was? I didn't get to see the gigantic black letters!

After that, MariCruz hair getting shorter and longer between takes, didn't matter much...

Good work on this difficult episode.

The wedding scene was so painful to watch. Just to see Maricruz sign her name was awful; she prints like a second-grader.

Has the make-up department done something to her teeth? They don't look right.

Elizabeth Alvarez gets her villana on very well. I'll never forget the last time I saw her play evil and this looks to be equally maniacal, but more subtle and Machiavellian.

I have not watched one episode of this TN yet (I always forget it's on), but I have been riveted to each and every recap. You recappers make it sooooo funny and interesting. Oh, I did get a glimpse of Lucia and she looks EXACTLY like you guys have described. So, as a fellow recapper, I was really disappointed that you did not discribe what Octavio looks like without his shirt on....that is an important detail of the story. ;-)

Wonderful witty recap. You are clearly bi-lingual...have you lived in the United States as well as in France? One would never know you are not a native speaker of English.

Loved your asides:

"is this his 10th wedding or something?)

"Gandalf's sister" [exactly! good call]

"(jeez, he's quite the prize, isn't he?)"

Octavio is certainly starting out despicable, but of course we can trust that the devoted love of a good woman will cure him eventually. However, it's clearly going to be a looooong wait.

Didn't see this episode. Relieved, actually, but delighted to have your recap so I can stay abreast of the misery. Oh my!

Not a happy camper on last night's wedding bliss moments. Thanks for the recap on putting this mind-numbing episode into words.

I know they played that whole bedroom scene for "ah-shucks" and romance but sorry, it was wrong, wrong, wrong. And they way Tav just strutted like a peacock the next morning with his bro. Yeah, just wrong.

Tav has to know, has to, that he is dealing with a wayward CHILD that despite her age is not worldly. Either this was a way to show us he is still a cad and needs to grow as a person, or if this was a sell job to promote their true love...well, I wasn't happy.

If at some point when she grows and matures she kicks him to the curb for awhile, I will be right there cheering. I love Daniel as an actor, but this character needs a major redemption arc.

With the previews I see we get more of the handsome ranch hand hunk soon. YEAH!!

Daisy

Muchas gracias Adriana Noel

I just can't get the vision of Lucia as the evil queen in Snow White out of my head. "Mirror, mirror on the wall", is there a poison apple in this for Maricruz?

!!!!Hurry Eduardo!!!!

Thanks Adriana. Terrific detail.

I feel like I saw a different show than the rest of the commenters. I thought Octavio was so incredibly sweet with Maricruz. He never looked down on her (or at least didn't act as if he did), and he did everything in his power to lessen the Lucia blows. I thought the bedroom scene was cute too.

Cynderella, they didn't show Octavio shirtless in any way that we could look at the goods and make an appraisal.

I do think that Octavio has not yet realized the full extent of Maricruz's innocence, lack of experience, and lack of knowledge. His first glimmer was watching her sign her name, but I don't think he's ever assessed just what Mari's life had been like living in such complete poverty, starting with never using utensils.

Still a few episodes behind but thanks Adriana for covering this episode! Can't wait to finish exams so I can watch and comment on a regular basis :)

Variopinta, who does Eduardo play?

Eduardo is played by Ricardo Franco, Rodolfo in AB. He is a pilot, so will be really hot in his uniform.

Which will make him look more alpha than Octavio.

Adriana: A great read, amiga! You had some great snark in this, like:

"Gandalf’s sister" --good nickname!!

"And the chemistry between them is just right, which will come in handy while watching this tn" ITA!!

"Barefoot, Ofelia asks, almost choking in her own venom"

"And she no longer has the night gown, whatever did she do with it, left it on the fields?" Good question!

There is more, but that's a good start, right? LOL!

You caught the illegal wedding bit, too--good for you! I wasn't even thinking about that! Ewwwww, that will be a real problem soon I bet, especially if and when Octavio leaves her in Lucia's snare...er...care.

The night gown was on Mari. I made a screen http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/4630/1mp4002580547.jpg
And I also think, that Octavio was sweet with his wife. He is not in love, only because he still thinks, he couldn't fall in love with the girl like Maricruz. But it's his destiny
Alegria

Well, after seeing the disagreement about Octavio, decided to watch the episode on-line.

I agree, he was very gentle on the wedding night, but it had that skeezy feel like watching a skillful predator seduce a 12-year-old. Not a Prince Charming moment at all.

I'm feeling like Nanette...wanting to skip this horrid part and wait until our little backwoods gal makes a name for herself...in a good way..in the big city.

Maricruz in love. She likes kisses. She wants him kissing her all the time. So for me it's ok that they did it.
But I also think, that Octavio should stay with her in the morning/
Alegria

Thanks for this great recap, Adriana Noel. My favorite line:

"shame on you, Octavio, shame on you!"

I'm a little bewildered at this point. Where and what is exactly the evil in this show? I see bad family dynamics, lots of incompetence, a bit of ickiness... I must be missing something.

I think I'm most disappointed in Abuelo. It's guys like him that give poverty a bad reputation. What does he do all day? He sends the girls out to steal? How about a little garden? How about some chickens and maybe a goat? He has a gun, let's go hunting. I'll bet there are fish in that pond. Por favor.

But doesn't Lucia have the most gorgeous eyes?

Carlos

What new esposo leaves his new childlike bride on the morning after her deflowering with people he knows will treat her like nada? I'm not very happy with Octavio either or Señora Mejia.

And yes Lucia has gorgeous eyes, still the evil queen though.

Hey Carlos...glad someone else noticed that Gramps just sits around while everybody else hauls food of various sorts and bustles around cooking. I think India Maria can do better!

Hey, give abuelo a break, he's old!
And where is he going to get chickens, seeds for a garden, goats, even bullets for a gun? There is NO dinero.

Well... he was not that old 20 years ago when MariCruz was born and yet they have lived there without ''oficio ni beneficio''. Those girls should have been to school, sell shell necklaces to at least not live in that 10 square feet tin walled shack without bathroom.

I think he should have teach them not only to fend for themselves, but to do something useful aspirng to something better than that...

I know, I know, is a TN and to watch it I need to unplug my brain...

Cynderella, there wasn't much to be said about shirtless Octavio, they really didn't show him very well. And I wasn't about to praise him in that particular moment, because I wasn't very happy with him.

JudyB, I've never been to the US, but I've been speaking English since I was very young, so it kind of stayed with me. I'm not French either, I'm from Romania, actually, but that is a story for another tn :))

Cathy, the whole wedding ceremony was so cringe worthy, the fact that Maricriz could barely sign her name should have been the last of Octavio's worries. Needless to say, he has no clue what he's doing.

Jardinera, the fact that Maricruz didn't realize it was wrong to have two birth certificates just shows how uneducated she really is, but I didn't think Abuelo was that bad, too. How on Earth did they decide she should use the document that has the name she likes best / she's used to? But then again, if she had done this the right way, Octavio would have found out the truth, therefor making impossible all that comes next.

Well, congratulations Adriana for being so fluent...and presumably in not two, but three languages! We'll wait for the rest of your telenovela when you're ready....sounds interesting.

I've spent some time in France and Switzerland but at this late date (and with no reason to practice) I've forgotten most of my French.

Such a good recap, Adriana!!

It's already been mentioned, but I liked the line about Gandalf's sister, too.

I also liked the line about hiding the good cookies.

Cathyx-I thought Octavio was kind of sweet, too.

Of course, if I *really* think about it I would realize that his motive is NOT altruistic...he just wants to bother Lucia. I doubt he will be so patient after living with her for a few days. Miguel is right--her childlike nature and ignorance of social nicities is going to send Octavio running for the hills. Poor Maricruz will be left exposed to Lucia and her evil schemes.

I guess since I know that eventually he will grow to love her, I am cutting him a whole lot of slack. I completely agree with Daisy that there needs to be a MAJOR redemption story arc. He needs to suffer a little.

Carlos-I love Lucia's eyes, too.

I'm a little annoyed that I will be missing The Great Transformation while I'm gone. Digo, es posible que I won't miss it...but if the first week is any indication, this is pretty fast paced.

Oh well! There's a fabulous recap team and there's free wi-fi at the school.

Dijo Carlos:
"I'm a little bewildered at this point. Where and what is exactly the evil in this show? I see bad family dynamics, lots of incompetence, a bit of ickiness... I must be missing something."

You don't think it's evil of Octavio to use an innocent like Maricruz just to get even with his brother and sister-in-law? He is going to hurt her and leave her ripe for abuse by Lucía. More evil to come.

Oh I forgot to ask a question-- when I saw the two birth certificate thing my first reaction was that it one would be used to sort of conceal her "old" Maricruz identity. Is that in the realm of possibility or do I still not not have a grip on TN rules? :)

Sue455
The problem is that Octavio is not supposed to be the evil person, which is the absurdity of this TN. So far the bad guys look ok, Miguel wants to preserve the ranch, Octavio wants to get rid of it so he can have cash to blow. The only one suspect so far is Lucia.
Octavio is supposedly a pilot, why doesn't he have money?

Mrs. Mejia has been around Salvador way too long, all his estupidez has rubbed off on her.

If you want bad guys to show their real face, next few episodes are for you. And soon you'll see others.
About illegal wedding. It was my first thought. And it's still intriguing me, because Marimar had only one. So it is something new in this story.
Alegria

because Marimar had only one

I've only seen the chopped up DVD, but it thought I remembered one. Thanks for confirming my memory :)

I may be in the minority but I am thoroughly enjoying this big ol' can of Easy Cheeze. Great sets, great music, great costumes and the best brand of beanie writing possible. I am enchanted by Ana Brenda Contreras' take on the Marimar character. She's innocent but not as annoying to me as Thalia (who I also adore. )

The story is realy very simple but very sweet. I understand why it is sooooo big hit now in Mexico.
Alegria

I think that's what appeals to me most. The udder (heh heh, couldn't resist) innocence of Maricruz.

Octavio is slightly better than his big bro and SIL, but redeemable since he at least figures to do the right thing by Maricruz when marrying her. Little by little -- and I do mean miniscule amounts-- he's civilizing her and IMHO he is seriously attracted to her. I MHO he's using the revenge tactic to hide behind and justify his reason for marrying the beautiful and intriguing river rat. He was thinking to himself a while back also that if he could change her a bit she could be somebody he could really fall in love with, as I remember.

We don't really know yet why he's totally broke from what's been shown so far--only from the synopsis. Just he's out of a job, not why or for how long.

I completely agree Jardinera. Unfortunately the avances make it look like Lucia is going to undermine Octavio's efforts to civilize the river rat.

I'm also incredibly nervous about Lucia's pregnancy and how it figures into the story.

An excellent recap, Adriana Noel! It seems the only diamond at the wedding was Maricruz, our diamond in the rough!

MC was playing her Ellie Mae Clampett role to the hilt. Loved it when she sprayed the champagne all over. Lucia is really good in hypocrite mode and yes, Carlos, she does have beautiful eyes. I always liked E.A.'s tilted cat eyes.

Liked the Gandalf's sister tag for Santa, too.

We didn't see Octavio shirtless, but I saw a photo of him in his pilot's uniform looking hot, hot, hot.

That was the most pitiful wedding I've ever seen in a TN. They did need to consummate the wedding, but Octavio should have awakened MC before he left her the next morning. He could have explained what was going on and what he planned for her at the hacienda.

Speaking of which, I like the house with its natural light and brighter colors.

I would like a little more of MC's back story. What has she learned and where did she learn it? She knows how to write her name and can read. Who was her teacher and why is she lacking some basic life skills?

La Paloma

Adriana Noel---Thank you for your great recap. If you had not said that you were from Romania,I would never have known.

I LOVE this novela. I like the cast
the storyline and the rancho is sooo beautiful.

A lot of people are down on Octavio
and maybe he did marry for spite, let's see how that plays out But I agree with cathyx. It was obvious that the heavenly goddess was/felt
alone [being away from her family]
for the first time, nervous and afraid on her earthly wedding night. I thought that Octavio was gentle, kind and understanding to her. It was wrong for him to leave
before she woke up though--he looses points for that but no one is perfect and I think that he meant no harm, he just didn't think.

I have seen several beautiful wedding night scenes in novelas with beautiful decorated rooms and the like but for me, the one white rose in the near empty room was both simple but so VERY POWERFUL in meaning--it was elegantly beautiful.

Carlos---Be patient, enjoy the beauty while you can. I haven't seen one novela romance ever go smooth. Just wait, the goddess will soon finf herself in hell. I don't want to see that but i'm sure it will happen.

Carlos again---Abuelo-a garden, hunting or fishing? PLEASE! The poor guy is like 80--90. He can barely walk.
the gringo

Adriana- I still haven't seen the episode, but I couldn't let any more time pass before thanking you for your wonderful recap.

It sounds like there are a lot of different opinions on Octavio's actions this episode. Looking forward to seeing it and making my own conclusions. But from his actions so far, it's clear that Octavio likes Maricruz and is attracted to her, and that he has a good heart and can be very kind. But he can also be arrogant, thoughtless, and ignorant about poor people (as are most of us with any money).

I am surprised and disappointed that he has sex with Mari. I would have thought he would have at least waited a while longer. Do we think he used protection? Or did he just have unprotected sex, with a girl who had never had sex before, and whom he intends to dump once his revenge has been accomplished? For shame Octavio!

Octavio did tell Miguel there could be another baby with the Narvaez name. Not sure if he truly intended this to happen, but unprotected sex is the way to accomplish that. Maybe he was just driven crazy by MC's rustic beauty in that slinky nightgown.

Paloma: LOL! or maybe Octavio had raging hormones, ran out of his spares and figured condoms weren't sold at the corner drugstore?

Vivi, it was great doing the recap, especially since this proved to be a rather difficult episode. I'm usually full of snark but I found little to snark about with this particular epy.
I think Octavio is treating Maricruz well, considering the fact that he's using her to get back at his relatives. Yeah, he is kind to her and I believe during the love making he was gentle and whatnot...

That being said, there was never a doubt in my mind that he was gonna consummate the marriage - he sees Maricruz like a child, or better yet, his new pet project, but he is a man and that got the better of him. Not being around the next morning I think means that he is clueless, not bad. And no, I AM SURE he did not use protection...don't know why, it's just a gut feeling.

CeCe, it was a pleasure covering for you...good luck next week when you take over!

Maricruz will be fainting in about a month.

Adriana Noel:

Thank you for this most marvelous recap.

That wedding was sad, really. Poor Mari could barely write her name. I don't think she can really read. Abue, a couple epi's back was reading to her. I agree about the two birth certificates. Am glad too she didn't use the one with her real name. Lucia and Miguel and Simona for that matter, don't know the diamond in the rough amongst them.

I thought it was funny when Maria dropped that cake on the floor, Ofelia thought Maria was going to eat it, and grabbed it from Maria and ate it all up, lol. Maria did try to warn her.

Octavio at least was gentle with Mari. It was nice that he turned his back and let her undress/dress in that nightgown. She is the shyest little thing. She does act more like fourteen than nineteen. I too wish that Abue had had that little birds and bees talk with her. She is truly an innocent. I too think Octavio should have been there in the morning.

I like how Gandolf's sister and Maria treat Mari. I think she may have some allies there.

I hate that Lucia calls Mari "basura", seems to me that Lucia is the basura and not the other way around. I wonder what she has planned for Mari next.

I laughed at the thought of Gramps giving MC the birds and the bees talk. Awkward! Not to say that he shouldn't because he should have. My own mother couldn't, didn't give me the birds and the bees talk, lol.

I caught up on CI this a.m. So far so good. I like the fact that the plot has been pretty straightforward so far without numerous worthless subplots and that it has moved quickly. But, I know we are only 5 episodes in.

Pablo, I also found it annoying that Octavio didn't help María with a comforter that was almost bigger than she was.

I am not happy with Octavio's motivation for marrying Maricruz but in his cold analytical way he thinks he is doing her a favor as well as getting his revenge. It is clear that he will be proven wrong on the first point with all of the plotting going on.

It was real hard to believe that Octavio had no access to any money to buy a wedding dress and proper clothing for his wife and that there was no way for him to get any. His brother and his snakey wife clearly must have cash.

As far as the ranch goes, could not Octavio take his brother to court and force a sale? It isn't as if he has any affection for his brother or his snakey wife. I guess I know the answer: if he did that there wouldn't be a show!

Adriana: Loved the recap.

Two things: Agree Octavio was a jerk to talk to Maria for so long as she stuggled with the bedding and MC's feet had to be filthy after all that barefoot walking (though they didn't look dirty?!) and she was putting them all over the bed.

I feel sorry for Ana Brenda having to do all that barefoot walking. Hot walkways, dirty ground and rocks, and long days filming...

Jarifa- I actually DO think the brothers have love and affection for each other. They just have very different points of view on how to live their lives.

Ana Brenda was not working barefoot. In some episodes you can see shoes on her feet.
