Corazon Indomable, Capitulo 4, Thursday 5-16-13: Fate Places the Pieces on the Board--Let the Game Begin

Recap by La Paloma

(There were many short scenes flipping back and forth.  Some of these may be combined in the recap. I'm going to learn how to make this shorter.)

Gloom and worry
Don Alejandro hears his doctor's advice to slow down and stay away from work for six months, but isn't happy at the prospect.  His heart condition is a sword over his head and he wishes his daughter were at his side.

At the river and multi-purpose watering hole, Maricruz is rising from her plunge into the depths, meeting the worried Solita mid-stream for a happy reunion.  Up at the hacienda's big house, Miguel rushes in, angrily telling Lucia that Octavio learned about the mortgage on the lands.  Opinions are exposed:  Octavio determined that Miguel will pay for this treachery, Lucia telling Miguel "Don't let him win," Miguel saying he will take consequences and begging Lucia to have faith and she'll still have it all.

Octavio enters to ask Lucia if the room is ready for his future wife, which leads to cross-accusations of lying and scheming from both parties. Lucia, with fake smiles, tries to learn more about the wife's social standing and disposition.  Octavio claims he just might marry him one of them lower-class gals, while Lucia smirks about Miguel's love for her and how Octavio's bride needs this kind of love.

Back at the Hut of Humility, Abuelo and Solita are comforting a weeping Maricruz, who confesses her sorrow is due to the news of Octavio's impending marriage.  Abuelo warns her that Octavio might be just foolin' around and she'd better stay away from the ranch.  Sad eyes from MC.

Love is in the air
The next morning, Octavio blithely climbs into the Jeep. In the house, Lucia faints and the servant (Ofelia?-not sure) goes for help.  Lucia's sure that stress and nerves made her faint, but the servant wonders if a baby is in the works.  "If only..." muses Lucia, who has prayed so long for one. (No wonder she has time to wear four outfits in one day and turn into a scheming beyotch.)

Octavio appears at the community watering hole, where Maricruz is washing/shredding the family clothing.  He inquires after her sad face and says she needs a boyfriend.  She isn't amused and accuses him of getting married when she loves him.  He then asks her to marry him, leaving her impactada with disbelief.  He says it's no joke, he wants to marry a pure and innocent poor girl.  (Yup, exactly what a broke playboy bachelor needs.) Her starry-eyed gaze gives evidence of mascara and an eyelash curler somewhere on the premises.  A sweet, reassuring kiss follows, then a longer kiss, then another.  We go to commercial with no sign of a happy Moctavio/monkey sharing the lovers' bliss, but there was scattered applause from Viewerville .

The best laid plans
Maricruz, a quick learner, decides kissing is a good thing.  She asks Octavio to do it again and prove he's serious about marriage.  Two local gossips bringing their laundry to the river, spot the novios and pass critical comments.  Octavio tells MC to wait to tell the news until they get married and live at the ranch.  MC protests her lack of shoes, but her novio says "It's your destiny!"  The sweethearts plan for shoes with heels and jewelry for MC.  Octavio will break the news to Abuelo. Meanwhile, the gossips leave the river, passing on the news to anyone in their path, including Ewwwsebio.  He calls MC a hussy, slashes his whip and rides off.

The lovers leave the river behind, with Octavio in full hunk mode, toting the heavy tub of laundry for his sweetie. He assures MC that she won't have to leave Abuelo and Solita behind.  He thought-bubbles that his selfish espousal of MC may be unfair, but he'll love her one day if she changes.  (OK now, Big Boy.  You may be guapo and all, but let's show a little respect for our Wild Flower and her feelings!)

Add another layer to the cake rehash
This next section was mostly rehashing the news of the engagement and the baby, layering it on with more detail.  There was an India Maria scene, cued by her special comic music. The friend bringing peppers to her comments on I. Maria's fondness for Abuelo.  I. Maria reminds her that the older the violin, the sweeter the music. She has a tragic scene as she takes the day's food to Abuelo's family.  Ewwwsebio grabs the food from her, breaking her basket in the process.  He rides off to harrass Team MC.

Lucia sweeps down the stairs for her doctor's appointment in town.  Octavio asks for a ride so he can take care of wedding plans.  While MC and Solita clean the hut, MC tells Solita (who can safely keep the secret) all about her happiness.  Ewwwsebio (accompanied by brooding bass notes in the soundtrack) arrives at the hut bearing food and evil accusations that MC is a rich boy's toy!  Sold her body for food and a cow!  Abuelo stumbles and falls trying to chase Eww off, then tells MC he's returning the cow due to all the chisme.

Starter marriage or Blood Wedding?
The baby and wedding news continues to trickle down through the family.  Lucia returns with confirmation of her pregnancy as Miguel is euphoric, almost dancing for joy. Abuelo is angry with MC's engagement, which she defends while he grumbles he should have sent her to her mysterious father.  He draws his machete when Octavio arrives, only to back down when loverboy says he is serious and requests the hand of MC in marriage.  Grandpa is gobsmacked, but gives his permisson.

Simona has a discussion with her Nana, saying that Octavio is marrying to get revenge on his brother and sister-in-law.  She is sad he won't marry her, sheds tears.  (Very nice house and she's really not that bad-looking.)  At the Narvaez dinner table, Lucia shares her happy news while Octavio says he's getting married on Saturday.  It's not Simona, it's Maricruz Olivaries, which leaves Miguel and Lucia stunned.  He confirms he asked permission from El Abuelo that day.  The commercial arrives with still no evidence of support from the monkey.

A bride worthy of a bedroom?
Abuelo shows MC a box with letters from her father, info on how to find him, and her birth certificate.  Her full name is Maria Alejandra Mendoza Olivares, which she'll need for her marriage,  He'll tell Octavio her full name, although he's not sure about this marriage, as he thinks our bridegroom may have a screw loose.  He believes this marriage may bring hardships and he intends to find out why our playboy wants this union.  His face is sad and mistrustful,

Lucia still can't believe this marriage, although Miguel can.  Octavio suggests that there could be another baby with Narvaez blood, which infuriates Lucia.  She storms into the freshly furnished bride's bedroom and rips it apart.  She states Octavio will have to furnish it himself, telling the servant she wil do NADA for Maricruz!

Upcoming--The wedding of sweet innocence and hidden intentions.

La Paloma,

This is wonderful. It is just the right length and nothing needs to be cut. Just marvelous.

I'm worried about Maricruz. I don't like what Tavio is doing at all. Revenge is one thing, but he better not hurt the little Wild Flower Girl, that is so NOT right. I can see why Abue is nervous and doesn't like the idea.

I can't stand Lucia. She is very class conscious and acts like if you don't have money, you are dirt. She really wants to be the queen of everything. Simona is so different. She looks likea wren, with no color at all. I wish she had a makeover and more confidence in herself.

I am glad Abue gave Maricruz her birth certificate and how to find her Papa. Finally, she might be able to find him.

Ewww is just well, ewww. What a jerk and I hate that whip he is constantly carrying. I hated what he told Abue and got him all upset. How does Miguel put up with him, but then again Miguel isn't all that either.

Can't wait for the wedding tomorrow. This should be interesting.

La Paloma:

I forgot to add my favorite names/lines from your recap:

The hut of humility
The community watering hole
Lucia being a scheming beyotch, right on!
Another layer to the cake rehash

Marvelous all of them : )

Vivi - thanks so much for this excellent recap. I was only able to watch the last half of the episode tonight so 'muchos gracias' for the super quick post.

Your humor is great - had me laughing from beginning to end. I particularly loved...
- the 'Hut of Humility'
- he wants to marry a pure and innocent poor girl (Yup, exactly what a broke playboy bachelor needs)
- he just might marry him one of them lower-class gals
- at the community watering hole, where Maricruz is washing/shredding the family clothing
- her starry-eyed gaze gives evidence of mascara and an eyelash curler somewhere on the premises
- Abuelo thinks our bridegroom may have a screw loose
- Starter marriage or Blood Wedding?

and...
- still no evidence of support from the monkey

Beth

Great job, Paloma!

Octavio rationalizing his marriage proposal is just bad, bad, bad, but the tn has to start somewhere, right?

I'm having a great difficulty seeing Miguel like a bad guy, maybe because his character is so similar to Mariano from AB - I think with a better wife he would have ended up being a decent guy.

But he really needs to go study land administration or ranch management or something, because he is completely clueless when it comes to his property. How did this guy grow up like this?

The joy of having a baby felt genuine for Lucia and Miguel, so I'm afraid that means the baby won't be born and Maricruz will somehow be blamed for it.

I was glad to see that Maricruz at least suspected Octavio's bad intentions, that means that her instincts work just fine, even if she lacks the education; and I saw some real chemistry between them, although I remember my first kiss being much more clumsy and short than the full make out session Maricruz was gifted with.
Oh, well, tn galans can have that effect on you, I suppose.... :)

Paloma, perfect recap. Thanks!!

So, here we go. Baby on the way with the evil beyotch, wedding of rich galan with sweet innocent, hidden paternity about to be revealed, and soon a false accusation of some kind to make MC look bad I'm sure. Anyone with Bingo already?

The thought of Lucia as a mother is just scary. She might break a nail. And heavens she get spit-up on one of those dresses. I really hate that there is always a little innocent babe somewhere in these dramas. I actually hope the bebe makes it...just make Lucia go away.

Miquel is a jerk and seemingly rather dense, but I think perhaps he's redeemable at some point. Maybe I too am caught up with it being Rene, but so far he's not being shown as evil as his wifey. I actually don't think she loves him and maybe at some point he'll realize he was being played for his standing.

Count me among those who thought MC sure was really good and looking fine for her big makeout moment. Saw the mascara too...and noticed how the sun was shining so prettily on her wonderfully shaved/smooth legs. Gave me giggles. There's Nair in them there hills.

Beth- I'm flattered. This wonderful recap was the product of La Paloma. I just posted it for her.

La Paloma- Fabulous debut recap! It wasn't long at all. Just right actually. You were right on in saying the only thing that happened this episode was the gossip being spread about Mari being a ho, and Lucia being knocked up.

Adriana- ITA. Miguel and Lucia were so genuinely happy about their long-awaited baby, that Viewerville just knows something bad is going to happen to that baby. Not sure I would agree Miguel is like Mariano, as incompetent as he is, and as gross as he can get when he talks about Mari's hotness. But they both certainly believe in family and the land (although Miguel seems to like to play lord of the manor, unlike Mariano).

Octavio, Octavio...there is nothing to say about his selfish plan to use Mari for his own purposes, and hey, maybe I just might fall in love with her if she becomes worthy of ME. Give me a break! He did give Mari a delicious first kiss experience though. :) Does he plan on having sex with her too, once they're married? That's just so wrong! He really hasn't thought this thing through.

Is there a reason why Mari isn't jumping up and down to go find her papa immediately, now that abuelo has FINALLY shown her the letters with his address (and surely his name)? In Cap. 1, she was eager to know. Now she barely shrugs her shoulders at that news. Is it because of what abuelo told her about her mother's experience with her father the other episode? I didn't see the prior two caps, so it makes no sense to me why she had such little reaction. She had a little more reaction to learning that she has been going by a false name all these years, but that's a pretty huge deal. That must also mean that she was never registered in a school, where they would have also needed her birth certificate and would have called her by her real name.

Mocatvio was present. Just not on Mari's shoulder. He was up and down in the background in the family hut.

I wonder what Solita must be thinking of all this? From her point of view, one day everything was normal and she and her big sis were going about their usual biz-- swimming, frolicking, stealing food, and hanging out with gramps. Next thing she knows, big sis is attempting suicide and having severe moods swings-- twirling and smiling madly one minute, and bawling her eyes out the next. And gramps goes from sweet and tender, to angry and waving his machete around at people. Must be very confusing for her. After seeing Octavio kissing Mari’s forehead and put his arm around her in front of gramps last night, Solita likely finally figured out that HE is the source of all this upheaval, giddiness, despair, and anger.

Tks La Paloma,
Your bingo cards are filling up faster than a Mejia.!!!if you are pregnant you faint one time!!! Aren't there any mothers in this, usually o'rourke is the 1st indication. Good grief, this producer even had Mejia as a mentor. The silly India Maria comedy scenes, !Dios mio!

!!!!hurry Eduardo!!!!!

Well at least the scenery is fantastic.

Mari in love and happy. She thinks Octavio love her too. She doesnt need her father now.
And thanks fo recaps. I always forget to say this, but I realy like them all :)))
Alegria

Variopinta- Not only was Mejia her mentor, he's her husband! Seriously.

There has been a shocking lack of pregnancy fainting in our tns lately (Luzma's faint doesn't count since that was more about facing her rapist at the police station). Women were starting to think that they should rely on things like missed periods and pregnancy tests to give them a clue, but this tn has put them back on the right path. You won't know you're pregnant until you faint, and you WILL faint if you're pregnant. LOL!

La Paloma: You are definitely in the right frame mind for this one. Your snark-o-meter was off the scale, amiga! I was LOL from the beginning to the end.

Holy mierda Vivi, no wonder.

By the way, did anyone else hear the story on NPR a day or two ago on single motherhood in Mexico? The numbers have shot up so much, it's something like a third of all kids in Mexico are now being raised by single moms. Something crazy like that. In a very Catholic country like Mexico, this is becoming a big issue. Time for some sex ed.

Here it is: http://www.npr.org/blogs/parallels/2013/05/14/183674328/as-stigma-eases-single-motherhood-in-mexico-is-on-the-rise

It's 1/4 in the whole country, 35% in D.F. Now, single motherhood is becoming more acceptable because it's a reality for so many people.

Too funny Vivi--yep, the good old Faint and your preggers routine. Bingo! Where the blazes they came up with that amazes me. I don't know anyone, myself included, who fainted when they became pregnant. But once again, that PSA has made an appearance. I do believe this is one of those TN's where we will need our Beanie with is at all times or keep the drinks going on the patio.

Daisy

Thanks La Paloma...I agree that you made a great debut and no need to shorten the recap at all.

Like Mads, I got a big kick out of "multi-purpose watering hole" and also enjoyed a little touch of Urban Anthropologist's style as you noted the musical accompaniment (brooding bass notes for Eusebio). I find the India Maria scenes and sprightly music telegraphing HUMOR HUMOR! to be excruciatingly unfunny. Anglo tastes, I guess.

As for the discussion on single motherhood in the DF, there was that sad story yesterday about the young mother throwing herself and her young baby under the subway train. The mother died but the malnourished child lived. How desperate her circumstances must have been to do that!

Great job La Paloma. Your writing reminds me of Paquita's.
I'm not so enamored by out Galan. I hope he improves drastically. He could start by getting a hair cut.

I'm with everyone about the fainting as a sign of pregnancy. I never knew anyone who fainted from that. Feeling sick to your stomach? Oh yeah. definitely.

About the pregnancy and being single. Most TNs have a woman get pregnant who isn't married. And it seems to be very common here in the states too. Most celebs do that.

La Paloma:

I'm still not sure about this one but I had to stop by and tell you how fabulous your debut recap is -- you are a natural! Thank you so much.

Daisy:
"There's Nair in them there hills"
So funny! No furry legs, hairy pits or unibrow for our scrappy Wild Child!

Vivi:
Thanks for the heads-up on the NPR program. I just listened to it and was struck by the decline in birth rate from SEVEN children per woman to TWO (sorry, I've forgotten the dates.) It sounds as if sex education is working very well, thank you, even if telenovela heroines haven't gotten the memo.

So interesting to see how the idea of what it means to be a family is changing.

Los niños son las riquezas de los pobres. = children are the wealth of the poor

You may be guapo and all, but let's show a little respect for our Wild Flower and her feelings!

Loved this line! Echoed my feelings exactly. This episode bothered the stew out of me. Wild Flower is *so* in love. And Octavio is *so* bent for revenge, that even though he's feeling a little squeamish...he's not noble enough to forget the whole idea. He's being a selfish jerk. I feel like Yosemite Sam when he gets frustrated.

Your debut was perfect: perfect snark, perfect length, perfect detail! Thank you.

PS: I am loving the "luke" they are using for Lucia. I know we've snarked about the long dresses, but I am growing fond of them.

Sara

LaPaloma - thank you, thank you, thank you! for the excellent recap. I just saw Vivi's post that you were the author and have to give credit where it's due. And I also just realized it's your debut as a recapper - well done! I'm looking forward to more of your great humor. Muchos gracias!

Beth

Could someone who has watched ahead e-mail me and let me know if there is a time jump to when Maricruz "changes" and what ep that might be? My e-mail is filmhist@yahoo.com. Sorry to be vague, don't want to be spoilerish.

Nanette

La Paloma---I have read the recaps and several commented that this is your debut recap---Well you wouldn't know it, it's near perfect
just like a long time pro. Great snark too. Hut of humility. LOL
We go to commercial with no sign of a happy Moctavio/monkey sharing the lovers bliss was one of my favorites.

Ewwwsebio--Eustebio. I have only seen a few minutes of this guy and despise him already--what a creep and that sandpaper voice? YUCK!

Also I can't stand nose in the air Lucia, [I guess I'm not alone.]
I see the "class card" played in several novelas. Is this really how it is in Mexico?

I hope that Octavio treats Maricruz
well, I know that Lucia won't.

Daisy---There's Nair in them there hills. Goddesses don't need Nair, they are perfect in every way.
the gringo

Was surprised that Lucia was happy when she first thought she might be pregnant. I figured she'd be one of those women who don't want their figured ruined. With her temper, you know she's going to lose that baby. And since it seems to be directed at Maricruz at the moment, you know who she'll blame when it happens.

La Paloma: your recap was great. Funny, detailed. It would be awesome from a vet. You're a natural.

Was anyone else startled -- even shocked -- by Solita's primal scream and then disappointed when it wasn't followed up in any way?

Are we to believe that was her first vocalization since she was taken in by Ramiro? Will someone now try to teach her to communicate with sign language and maybe some speech as well? THAT'S a telenovela I'd like to see.

[Althougn in a gazillion-episode telenovela, there's plenty of time to spin out Soledad's story, isn't there?]

Nanette
you can read ahead on telenovelaworld.com
It's in Spanish.

Was anyone else startled -- even shocked -- by Solita's primal scream and then disappointed when it wasn't followed up in any way?

I was and I was very disappointed. What a waste of a dramatic moment.

Well, if Maricruz is too much in Lala Love Land/Depths of Despair to follow-up on now knowing where her long-lost papa lives, she is definitely too wrapped up in her Octavio drama to follow-up on Solita's primal scream.

Variopinta: I don't really want to read ahead.I don't want to know what's going on specifically in the future. I just wanted an idea of when the TN was going to move into that MC phase--to know how many eps we'll have to wait for it. Depending on how long this current part lasts, will help me decide whether to stick with this TN or not.

But thanks for the info.

Daisy: Nair? Nah! She uses her machete.

Nanette- I don't know when exactly the move and new identity for Mari will happen, but considering in less than a week we've moved to Octavio marrying her, I don't think it will take too long for this early phase, when Mari is naive and innocent of the cruel realities of one-sided love and class distinctions, to end.

This novela is veeeeeryyyyyy dynamic. Today will be the wedding and it's only first week.
Alegria

SPOILER!!

Nanette, there'll be several episodes for the transformation, it takes time to teach her to be a proper lady(eat, drink, sit, walk dress, etc)
about ep. 22-27, in the 27th seh'll look the part :)

Apologies you guys, for the open post I couldn't find where you send messages through bloger to members, is there any way?

sorry for the bad spelling I was in a hurry writing..

A bath would be a great start.

Simona reminds of Liza Weil (Paris on Gilmore Girls).

irisz79: I left my e-mail address in my original comment, but I think I buried it in the comment.

Thanks so much for the info. I really appreciate it.

Nanette
I guess you got the answer you want, I just thought you could search ahead to find the chapter you wanted.

Simona reminds of Liza Weil (Paris on Gilmore Girls)

Oh, wow! She does! (Though Paris is a little less *wah! poor me!* lol)

Variopinta: I was afraid I would see something I didn't want to know before hand if I did that. I'm so paranoid! :) However, I am glad to know about the site and will definitely check it out sometime.

Sara C: but only a little. Did you see her in Bunheads? She plays the same type of character and is still really good at it.

No I didn't. Bunheads didn't hold my attention as much as GG.

I am really rooting for $imona. I hope she gets a happy ending. I definitely don't want her in cahoots with Lucia.
